X380 Yoga Palm rest and base cover warped

Q: X380 Yoga Palm rest and base cover warped

I just got an X380Y and I noticed that the screen does not sit flush when closed and it seems to be that the base cover and palm rest are severely warped and bend at the corners. I have tried replacing the base cover numerous times but always have the exact same problem. I have contacted onsite warranty services but have been told it may fall under user damage and not be covered, even though I received the laptop in this way. Does anyone else have this issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad L380 Yoga in August 2018. It has been used very carefully without any drops or other accidents. Today, I discovered a hairline crack on the palm rest just next to the bottom-left corner of the touchpad.  I contacted Lenovo support regarding this matter, and after seeing the photos that  I sent them (the same photos are attached here), they have concluded that it is a customer induced damage (CID) and will not be covered under warranty. The only justification for their conclusion was that there is no such issue reported in other laptops. This justification was made over the phone when I requested them an email regarding their justification. It is only the hand that is kept around this region of the palm rest. If it cannot bear the weight of the hand, I suppose the build quality and material is pretty cheap although the price was about 1800 NZD.  Have you also come across similar issues with the same L380 Yoga? What are the situations/scenarios for such a crack to happen when the device has been properly used and maintained in accordance with the product information guide? Cheers!!

I volunteered to help a friend upgrade the memory and SSD in their Yoga 460. I've worked on a lot of older ThinkPads, and the HMM made it look pretty easy. But when it says "pry" off the bottom cover, they are not kidding! Unfortunately I'd misplaced my spudgers, so I used an old credit card to help pry the cover off. In the process I broke one of the clips near the power connector. I think I pushed the credit card inward a little too hard. The machine went back together OK, but of course there is now a tiny gap where that clip isn't holding it. My friend treats computers fairly roughly and may not care, but it's bugging me a bit. I should have looked more closely before putting the machine back together, but now I don't remember whether the clip I broke off is part of the base cover or part of the piece it snaps onto (the keyboard bezel?). Would anyone happen to know? If the clip was part of the base cover it would be pretty easy to get a new one and replace it. Thanks!

I received my new P50 today. Unfortunately, whenever I type, it creaks where my right wrist rests on the keyboard bezel. Here is a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxxGza7zGRs Has anybody else had this problem? Not only is it annoying (a laptop this expensive shouldn't sound this old and rickety), but I'm concerned this will lead to the bezel eventually cracking as reported in other P50 threads.

I just got my X1 Carbon a week ago, and I'm generally very happy with it.  There just seems to be one problem -- the right palm rest area makes a clicking noise when I rest my palm or wrist on it.  It's about  a 2"x2" area between the trackpad and the fingerprint sensor.  The issue is particularly noticeable right along the edge.  I'm guessing it's some kind of issue with the body itself, but I haven't found anyone else on the Internet with this problem...  Has anyone experienced something similar?  Is this something I have to call Lenovo about and have them take care of it?

A:X1 Carbon Palm Rest Clicking Noise?!

While resting your palm on the touchpad, do you feel that you are clicking a button. So i suppose it might be loose fittings. You may call lenovo.

Hi, I have Lenovo ThinkPad T540p at work. Today I heard clicking noise when I moved my right arm from palm rest. I checked with my index finger and noise was heard when I touched and release area around the front edge of palm rest in a length of 1-2 centimeters. The noise is very annoying. What can be cause of it and how to surpress that noise? I can not remember if I heard this noise before - maybe I heard it without paying any attention to it. Last friday my laptop bag overturned while placed on the desk with laptop inside and secured with belts so I can not believe that event can be the cause of depicted noise. Honestly I am very dissapointed with quality of plastic generally speaking. I take care of this laptop as if it is living being so this problem comes out of nowhere. I had "bad" laptops compared to this at my former work but even those had better plastic. To slightly press palm rest and release it and hear clicking noise of plastic is completely unacceptable for laptop of this price. How on earth this is really true: The T540p meets eight US military-spec tests for ruggedness, durability, and quality: high pressure, humidity, vibration, high temperature, temperature shock, low pressure (15,000 ft), low temperature, and dust. In addition, innovative roll-cage technology and glass-fiber reinforced plastic add extra strength and rigidity. I just want to solve this problem without further "damaging" awful plastic on this laptop.

This is not that easy a repair - why did you not just send the system for repair (or replacement, if it's brand-new)?
The service manual is here:
www.dell.com/.../manuals
However, note that while they sent the part, if anything is damaged in the process of replacing it, the damage will not be covered by warranty.

I know this post sounds weird. Just sharing that maybe somebody out there experienced the same.
After 6 months of all day usage my inspiron 7347 get dirty, yellowish stain in the palm rest. I noticed it when it's placed under cool white light. It is ugly, and i keep thinking that it will get more yellow as it ages under my palms.
The material used in 7347 is plastic with aluminum like finish in a rubbery matte feel.
So I decided to give it a try, using soft sponge, dish washer soap to keep the sponge foamy, but not soaked wet. I rubbed on the palm rest, and the stain is gone.
Hope this helps to make your Inspiron 7000 series last longer.

First, my t400 would only boot with power cord unplugged. Then it stopped booting altogether. I read to press the power button 10 times and hold it on the tenth time and to unscrew the palm rest to unplug the little battery for 30 seconds. That is the only way I can get it to boot now. I picked up a new regular battery today thinking it might be related but that hasn't solved it. Any ideas?

A:thinkpad t400 wont boot w/o reseting little battery behind palm rest

I looked at it closer and to get it to start i don't press the power button at all. I unplug the power cord and after unplugging the CMOS battery for awhile i just plug the power cord back in and it starts up. The first thing i see as it starts up is an error message about a bad CMOS checksum and then i have to change the date/time in the BIOS or it yells at me to do it. After all that it boots into windows 7. Once it is in windows no matter what i do to change the settings of what the power button does it still doesn't do anything. I can restart it fine but once i shut it down it the CMOS battery needs to be reset to get it going again.

Hi all,I have an issue with my new Inspiron 15 (7569).  If I am sitting in bed, for example, my palms put a little more pressure on the palm rests.  The enclosure actually presses down the left-click button!  This causes two separate use issues for me.  First, it makes it so that there is no "click" to the button when I want to use it (because it is already in the down position, being held by the enclosure), and second, it causes my cursor to jump around... the cursor/pointer may just be somewhere on the screen out of the way while I type, for example, but when the enclosure "presses" the left button it forces focus to wherever the pointer is at that moment. This is clearly a hardware flaw, as there should be some internal support closer to the buttons to keep the palm rests/enclosure from pressing down on the button.
What recourse do I have at this point?  How do I know that if I exchange this for a different model I won't just have the same issue again?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 (7569) Weight on palm rest presses button.

I have this exact same issue on my Dell Inspiron 7569.  I have to hover my hands over the palm rest instead of letting them rest, like normal.  It's so annoying.  Dell, please respond to this!
UPDATE: So it's not the weight alone of wrists/palms on the palmrests that causes the problem.  I noticed that if I used a lap desk, or used the laptop on the table, the bottom of the laptop would be prevented from flexing, and the problem would not occur.  More investigation showed that I could make a track pad click by either slightly deflecting the laptop, pushing the outsides slightly down and the center slightly up.  The same behavior occurs when you use your thumbs and index fingers to squeeze slightly from both above and below the laptop, about 2 inches to the sides of the center of the trackpad.  Both of these tests emulate what's occurring when you use the laptop on your lap directly without a rigid surface to support it.
It's a hardware problem... no idea how to fix it.  Dell?

Hello I have two thinkpads which exhibit this problem. Basically when you grip the palm rest from the top and bottom of the left side pam rest, next to the trackpad, and lift the screen displays noise and then freezes. Apparently, there is a short inside the notebook. No undue handling is required to replecate this symptom and I can publish a video if you would like to see how easy it is to damage this computer. Apparently milspec does not include picking up the device with one hand. Why does this problem exist? It seems the problem area is right over, or under, the smart card reader. Who else has experienced this?

I purchased my 910 around June of 2017 and 99% of the time it is on my desk connected to desktop speakers. I noticed a couple months ago that it was not laying totally flat. The back right and front left were off and the computer would slightly teeter up and down when I typed. Previously it had layed perfectly flat and closed correctly. It has gotten worse and since I had previously ignored it, thinking one of the rubber stubs must have come off, I decided to inspect. I have definitely come to the conclusion that the top of the keyboard and the bottom (in the exact middle) are warped, they are bloated towards the middle like a slight bubble. The computer now sits back and when lay my hands on it to type the front will go down and touch while the back goes up. I also cannot close the computer all the way. Since the middle bubbled, the screen hits that and the edges can be pushed down all the way but once let go the screen sits about half an inch above the edge. Disappointing for a $1000 computer. The only reason I can come it with for it is possibly being a heat warp? The upper left hand corner gets incredibly hot to the touch if the computer is left on for a couple hours. Not entirely sure. Help? Thanks.

Hello, I am a certified repair technician for a large company. I am also Lenovo certified through my company for warranty repairs. We have ran into an issue with a T450 laptop we have not seen before.  The system came in with a no POST issue. We unplugged the internal and external battery and did the reset by pressing and holding the power button and the small micro switch on the system board for 30 seconds. System would not POST so we ordered a new system board. The new board will NOT work with the bottom base cover installed. It will work with the base off, but as soon as it is put on again, the system does not POST. We then have to unplug both batteries and reset the board in order to even get it POST again (with or without batteries). It does work, with base installed, and no batteries plugged in. However, it also works with batteries installed, and no base cover.  What is causing this problem? We have tried other batteries and bases with no resolution.

Hi
My Inspiron 13 7348 ( servic tag 4w6yj52)was physically damaged.
one of the two hinges between the display unit  and the base assembly had detached from its cover and parts of the plastics were broken (1. Display BackCover,  2. base assembly.)
1. I uninstalled the base assembly cover
2. I uninstalled the Display BackCover.
then I could clearly see the damaged parts
I opened a service request at Dell site. then I was talking to the part list sale department.
I send them the photos of uninstalled parts (1 & 2)
I asked Dell to have the price for these two parts.
I wanted to purchase these two "Display BackCover & base assembly " (with some attachments on them)
Surprisingly they  to force me to buy the whole display unit which includes the SCREEN and costs about 200$
The Display BackCovly was easily uninstalled , with the guide of the user-manual doc.
I did not succeded to convince DELL that the back-display-cover,  should be sold separately
the Laptop works OK, with the ability to move the display.
Please Help

As is common on hybrid systems, the entire top assembly is fused together with adhesive.  It's all but impossible to disassemble the upper assembly without destroying the glass, LCD and/or defacing the back plastic - as Dell informed you, the entire upper half of the system must be replaced as a single unit.
You'll find this design very common these days on all systems of this type.

I can't find any reference on the web or in the X380 base spec that indicates this is possible.  My guess is NO, but can't really verify one way or the other.

I can say that mSATA should not be part of the conversation.  The WWAN slot is m.2 NOT mSATA.  mSATA has not been used in Lenovo products for several generations.

Hi Lenovo Community, I'm facing pretty strange CPU Performance problems on the X380 Yoga with i7-8550U CPU. The CPU performance becomes very bad after some operating time. I understand the X380 has a limited cooling capacity, but this behaviour is pretty strange. Environment: X380 Yoga, i7-8550U, 16GB Memory, 512GB SSD, Windows 10 1703 Enterprise, SCCM Driver Package used for image building and installation. Bios Version 1.14 installed (most recent one). Drivers are all checked, and are the most recent version. Speed Step Settings in Bios are on Max Performance, on OS also on Max performance. Running Standard Office applications, like Outlook, Skype, Firefox and some management tools. After system boot everything is performing fine for about 1 hour. (I wasn't able to  record the exact time so far). After this, the system starts to get really slow, and shows a bad response time. As soon as some CPU load is applied, the CPU clock in Task Manager goes down, also the CPU load is not able to reach 100%. The CPU Temperature does not go over about 60 at this point. Directly after the system start it goes up to about 85C. I monitored the CPU with HWMonitor, and put some stress to the Laptop using Prime 95. After some minutes Torture Test I see following values in HWMonitor (see attachment Prime 1.jpg) After about 1 hour run time, I see following: (see attachment Prime 2.jpg) So, the CPU Clock is far down, all temperatures are not really high, no...
