Intellimouse - Cursor Vanished While Typing

Q: Intellimouse - Cursor Vanished While Typing

Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded my Intellimouse Optical's drivers to version 5.2. After doing this, however, I noticed that the software is automatically hiding my cursor when I begin typing. I definitely do not want this happening, and I was a bit mad to find out that the option to "hide cursor while typing" is unchecked. I tried rolling back the drivers with no luck. Microsoft's knowledgebase is of no help as usual and I am running out of options. Does anyone know why this behavior would be occuring?

Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Intellimouse - Cursor Vanished While Typing

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, Everyone- when typing on a new Asus EEE 1015, with Win 7, the cursor will suddenly jump backwards to an earlier spot in the text. This happens a lot, and makes it difficult to type anything.

I googled and saw this problem for many systems and OSs, but it seems like mainly a laptop and netbook problem. some people have erduced sensitivity on touchpads, or have updated touchpad drivers, or have installed a program that disconnects the touchpad when the keys are being used.

We know we are not touching the touchpad accidentally. you can really perch your fingers way above, and the jump still happens. We have decreased the sensitivity on the touchpad, and the jumping still happens.

We also have an Asus EEE 1005 Win XP, for almost a year, with absolutely no cursor jumping.

Any info specific to this set-up? I would love to hear any insights, before I go into a long routine of upgraing BIOS, upgrading touchpad drives, etc.

A:Cursor jumping Asus Eee 1015, cursor moves when typing

As the PC is new I would return it under warranty as this is most likely a hardware issue.

The only quick fix that might work is to reinstall the touchpad drivers from the Asus site. You could also check in the touchpad settings to see what is set for making the cursor disappear during typing, change the setting from whatever it is at present and see if that helps.

Hello all, first time posting here, was hoping you could help me with a bizarre problem that I've encountered today.

My newly built PC told me there was a problem with my PS/2 mouse driver (mouse is a Razer Naga 2014 with wired USB connection and had been working perfectly up to this point). Not really knowing what this meant, I decided to ask Windows to automatically fix it anyway. Upon restarting my system...my mouse no longer worked and the mouse cursor had completely vanished.

The mouse is still receiving power and still shows up on my list of connected devices, which makes me think that its driver has been uninstalled by Windows. Razer's driver management is handled through their Synapse application but it now says it can't detect any Razer enabled devices (including my Razer keyboard, which is still working) and therefore doesn't give me the option to download any drivers. And to add insult to injury, Windows is still telling me that PS/2 driver needs fixing.

I'm completely at a loss, has anyone else experienced this issue?

A:Mouse driver issue, cursor has vanished

Have you checked Device Manager
You may find a yellow make against
Mice and other pointing devices
Click on that and you should be able to
Reinstall or update your driver from there
You will also find your keypad there as well

Hello. I'm new to the forum so please pardon if this is not in the right section.

Here is an issue I need help with: I have a Dell EliteBook 8460p, with Intel CORE i5, Windows 7. It says Dell on the laptop lid but reads HP on the screen. Whenever I try to type any kind of content at all, the cursor simply jumps around, usually jumping up 3-6 lines. This makes coding impractical and sending a basic e-mail or writing a blog post can take triple the time it usually would since the cursor is jumping all around while I type.

I see that the Scroll/num lk button is lit but I can't depress it to turn the lithht off and I'm wondering if this is what's causing the issue. If it is causing the issue, there's does not seem to be any way (that I can it see now) to turn it off. Just typing this paragraph cause the cursor to jump up or 2-3 sentences so I've had to retype things multiple times.

Can anyone please help? Thank you.

Keyboards and mice function off interrupts. Check to see what's running that might interfere or keep the processor tied up. Laptops are almost always overburdened with unnecessary crapware. They're setup for newbies and check this or that, update this or that and monitor everything. Once you have a few months of experience with a PC it's time to get rid of the training wheels.

Perhaps this has something to do with your cursor problem. Just a thought.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1526.

My cursor jumps around when I type documents. I don't think it's a touch pad issue. I do think it's a software glitch. It appears to happen most frequently when I get to the end of a line of type, although that is not always the case.

Hello, I am having this very recurrent issue of the freezing cursor while typing or even just pressing a key on the keyboard. In fact, I have reached the parameters, tried to set the activation delay after pressing a key to "None, always active" but this option doesn't work. It freezes anyway when I push a key. I have tried to uninstall the factory driver (the one distributed by HP) and also installing drivers directly from Synaptics. Nothing works. The only way I have found to make my cursor moving while pressing a key is by completely uninstalling the Synaptics drivers but the problem is I can't scroll with two fingers anymore and above all, at the first reboot that I make, Windows 10 automatically reinstalls the Synaptics drivers and the problem with them. I am 100% up-to-date, as I have Windows Update and the HP Support Assistant running at all time. All the other students in my class have the same issue, we all are developper students and NONE of us, nor the teachers or other students from more advanced classes could manage to fix this problem. Has anyone found a solution ? Thank you very much.

Hi, I have this problem with my laptop Sony VAIO VGN-NS11J.
The problem is that while typing text the Cursor will either jump back into previously typed text or will sometimes initiate another page on it's own.
This is very annoying as I cannot type well enough to watch the screen and type - and I have to look at the keys as I type.
This then necessitates me having to go back correct and re-type my text.
I have windows 7 installed on this laptop.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am having an issue with my computer reading boxes from my input that look similar to []. When I use a readkey method in a program it will display that the input it is reading is a 255 which is ancii for 'blank' if I understand right. I believe the boxes are the visual representation of a blank?

I am using windows 7 ultimate on a dell inspiron 1501. Any ideas what in the world would cause it to continue reading this input? The thing that is strange is it only happens during a readkey call in code or a program that uses a similar method to type with such as a java application that is used to show work for homework. Things such as threads like this, or word processors or notepad etc don't do this.

Hope that's enough information to give you guys a good idea of the problem, let me know if more information is needed. Thanks in advance!

Hi, Im hoping someone can help as its starting to get me angry now and I cant find a solution. Sorry if its not a vista problem but not sure what the problem is.

Whenever Im typing something just like this question now my cursor keeps dissapearing off screen every 10 seconds or so and I have to click back on the screen to carry on typing. Its very annoying if Im typing something big as i could be in the middle of a word and it just stops and I need to click back on the window to carry on. Its as if the cursor clicks off the screen and makes the window inactive and I have to click back on the window im using to make it active again.

It also wont let me watch any streaming video in full screen. Like you tube for example, if i select full screen it lasts about 10 seconds and then resets to normal size. Very frustrating. I turned off the touchpad on my laptop but it still doesnt make any difference. I have also scanned for spyware and virus's but no joy.

has anyone had this problem before and fixed it?

I have a HP pavilion dv2000 laptop about 4 months old. I have the "jumping cursor" problem. The cursor will jump around the screen when I'm typing (I've had to correct this email 4 times already. Turning off the touch pad stops the problem but so does typing on another computer. I've tried a number of things to no avail. It is an intermittent problem in that it doesn't do it every day. When it does it, it does it bad.  I have experimented and I'm sure that I'm not touching the cursor pad as I type. I do often touch the case in the area around the touchpad. I'm guessing this is a grounding issue but can't prove that so far. I like this laptop but because of this problem, I'm unlikely to buy another HP. Any ideas, anyone? Alex

A:cursor jumps around when typing

If you are swearing off an entire comptuer manufacturer because one product you bought from them had an intermittant issue that could be fixed with a single service, then more power too you, but that is a poor basis for condeming an entire brand. As far as troubleshooting your issue goes, you might have a grounding problem, i'll back up your diagnosis there, obviously the issue will be hard to verify via phone support, if you call into HP, and are in warranty, you can have the computer sent in to let them check. They would probably replace the chassie or touchpad itself for free under warranty.

Has anyone figured out why my cursor would jump to another spot on the page when I am typing text? I looked at previous postings and I didn't see a solution. It can happen to me in any program I'm using, but I mostly see it in Microsoft Outlook 2003. It can jump anywhere; I've seen it jump when I wasn't even typing, just sitting there thinking about what to type. I have a Lenovo laptop and run XP on it. This has happened in Windows Live email as well. This problem happens a lot. I looked at my mouse settings under my control panel and I don't have a choice in pad sensitivity, but I don't think that is the problem with the jumping.

A:cursor jumps while typing

My old HP laptop was doing that for quite some time before it eventually bugged the crap
out of me to finally take it apart and give the keyboard a good cleaning.
That fixed it. Nothing as irritating as typing a sentence and it's putting the characters
in the middle of another sentence or paragraph or where it feels like putting it.
It just wore my patience down.
Good luck.

If you have a restore point going back some time, that may be worth a try. You could make a restore point now, then if using the old restore point does not fix it, at least you can get back current.

Just got in a new Pictek mechanical illuminated keyboard. I've noticed that while typing, say the word "discussion", I may get as far as the letter "c" and then notice that even though I've typed the entire word the computer has topped at "c". I then have to left-click my mouse to make the flashing cursor reappear in order to continue typing. As you have no doubt gathered by now I am not a touch typist so I watch the keyboard rather than the page while typing.

It's odd to note that this has not happened at this site while typing but does happen all the time when typing an email, for example.

Any thoughts?

Basically, when typing in mIRC, Windows Explorer, or MSN, my cursor disappears. In Firefox or AIM, it doesn't. I have no clue what else to try. Also to note, I had my friend try this and his also doesn't seem to work.

While typing a document, a sound will occur and I will lose my curser. Subsequent typing does not appear on the screen. I have to click where I want to type to reset the cursor. This happens frequently while typing. This occurs in my Word Processor, in my email, or anyplace I type. I found that the Title Bar also dims at that time and if I click on the Title Bar the cursor will return. My operating system is Windows XP. There are no error messages.

A:Loss of cursor while typing

What "sound" are you hearing? It sounds like something is happening that changes the active window selection - that's why the title bar dims out, it is no longer selected. Essentially, something is making you change programs so that you're no longer typing in Word, but whatever mystery program is popping up is the question.

Next time this happens hit Ctrl+ALT+Del and look for any suspicious processes that are running that may be the culprit. If you can't find anything, download Hijack This (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html), install it to C:\Program Files, close all browser windows, run it, do a System Scan only, click Save Log when it finishes and copy/paste the contents of the notepad that pops up into this thread.

Good day,

Today, I noticed that my mouse pointer is flickinger/blinking very badly when I'm typing something. Interestingly, this only happens when I'm typing in the address bar of Internet Explorer while the cursor is also pointed on the address bar or on the title bar. It also blinks when I'm typing in the address bar while the mouse is pointing on the New Tabs page of Internet Explorer. Typing in Word or in Notepad doesn't cause the issue; it's isolated to Internet Explorer. I have tried turning on and off the checkbox to hide the cursor during typing but that didn't fix anything.

I didn't make any changes recently other than installing the Windows updates of this month yesterday and installing a game today. Running Windows Pro 8.1 64x.

Although I'm quite positive this behavior wasn't there before maybe someone could check if the cursor is behaving the same way on his/her PC?

Good morning:

When I type the cursor will jump to another spot among the text previously typed or even off the page which means I have to grab the mouse, delete the misplaced text and return the cursor to the place where I was typing. This is very annoying and disruptive.

Have spoken to a number of friends and several have claimed to have this problem while others don't know what I am talking about. Seems to have some connection with touch typing using all fingers. Have began to wonder if it is connected with the fact that I learned to type on a manual 22 inch Remington a thousand years ago and might be hitting the keys too hard.

This problem seems worse with some programs such as e-mails however it seems very solid when typing this question.

Would welcome any suggestions as to why this happens.

I suspect you are accidentally touching something on the touchpad.  I have that trouble when I'm using my wife's Acer laptop, as I'm used to typing using a regular keyboard on a Desktop PC.  Actually, I have a lot of problems trying to type on any laptop keyboard.

Maybe you guys can help me with this. I have an employee that has an annoying little problem. Whenever he types in any application, be it an Office application or notpad, the mouse cursor dissapears. Once you move the mouse it reappears exactly where it was and moves normally but when you type again it dissapears. Technically it goes invisible until it is moved. It not hindering anything but it is annoying.

Anybody have a clue?

A:Mouse Cursor Dissappears When Typing

start > control panel.

if you have a white background with icons, double click on Mouse.

if you have a blue background with links, click on Classic View on the left hand side and then double click on Mouse.

In Mouse, go to the Pointer Options tab and uncheck "Hide Pointer While Typing".

I have a problem with Windows 7 the past few weeks or so, while typing, my typing cursor line will jump to a different spot on the text box, usually back in some of my already typed text. causing it to insert the rest in the middle of words. it can happen to any website or any text field. it is annoying and it makes me lose my train of thought. I read somewhere to keep your hands away from the touchpad but my hands are nowhere near it. they are on the edges of my laptop. so my problem is different. in fact it did it 5 times during this dialog

I hear you, but this problem is soooo common with touchpads.  Buy yourself a cheap mouse and disable the touchpad and see what happens.  I'm betting you won't have the problem any more.  Personally I think touchpads are masochistic devices designed by evil demons.

My cursor jumps randomly while typing, causing lots of need to re-type. My keyboard has that annoying touchthing between g h and b and I wonder if I'm not inadvertently hitting that. I'd really like a fix to this so that this problem disappears, and I'd like the solution not to be an external mouse. Other posted solutions I've seen involve setting selections that are not offered on my control panel.

Cheers.

No matter what program I'm using (word, excel, firefox) , when I type, my cursor freezes/stutters causing every fifth or sixth letter I type to not show up. When I hold down a directional arrow within text, the curser freezes for a second, maybe twenty letters along. I have Norton's and Spyware Doc running, but this still happens when I shut them off. I'm trying to figure out if there's something running that I don't know of that's causing this, because it's really annoying, I usually have to type and re-type passwords three or four times before all the letters show up. Any suggestions?
