Q: DISKPART not showing source media on LIST DISK or LIST VOLUME?

I have an EXTERNAL USB Drive 1gb that I use to IMAGE machines all the time. An employee got a new laptop Dell E5470 with an M.2 Sata SSD, and when I boot this machine to the external drive to apply a new image, diskpart does not show the External HDD under List Volume or List Disk. I have played around in the BIOS thinking because of the new M.2 Sata SSD there was a setting that was causing this but I am unable to find anything that allows this to work. It will boot from the External Drive but when running diskpart, it will not sow the drive so I can't apply and image or take an image since I have no were to place the image or copy it from.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Don't know when this happened but just noticed that diskpart, list disk info is whacked.

I'm new to this forum, and I have no idea what to do, but I started up my computer, and it didn't start up all the way, so I put in an install/recovery disk and checked my CMD, and it shows a X:\Sources .. I don't know what that is.
I tried inputting C: but it says "The device is not ready."
I entered Diskpart and list disk, and it shows 4 disks, all the statuses say "No media" all the sizes are "0 b" and I have no clue what to do from this point on.
I'm very lost and not so good at computers, so any help to fix this solution will be much appreciated.

When I type diskpart>list in I get three disks -0,1,2 . Do these correspond to the drive letters in windows explorer? If they do , how do I know witch number goes with witch letter?

My PC was working fine, but now when I boot up it goes to Windows Error Recovery screen. In the System Recovery Options screen there are no Operating Systems listed, and in Command Prompt when I go 'diskpart' and then 'list disk' all the disks (0 to 3) have a status of 'No Media', Size '0B', and Free '0B'. It appears that my Windows installation has disappeared. please could someone help. I do not want to lose the files on my hard drive. Many thanks

My pc won't boot up cause i made some software changes but didn't save things properly. It's running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I checked online and found i could boot up from an installation disc and repair it. But the recovery tools didn't work and I found that I could rebuild the BCD folder.

I was trying to rebuild my BCD file using some online instructions (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2004518)? i was using method 2.But I accidentally typed in Bcdedit /export C:\BCD instead of Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup and pressed ENTER. And it said the command was completed. I thought i would correct the error by typing in Bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup and the rest of the commands. they all completed successfully so I thought it was alright.

However when i restarted the pc I got an error at startup that says: status: 0xc000000f. apparently my boot folder is missing. SoI searched for some more solutions online and most said i've to go to the partition with the boot folder and OS using diskpart.

But when i run diskpart and run the command to list partition or list volume my original C partition isn't listed. It shows my System Reserved partition with the C letter assigned to it. Originally it was assigned letter E. And it shows that its active. I've tried running bootrec commands and restarting the pc but it's still not fixed.

I can't see how this could be the cause of your problem.

Have you carried out either:
A) Run startup repair from a system repair disc (3 times rebooting each time)
>bootrec /scanos
This should come back and identify the Windows 7 OS partition.
rebuild the MBR
>bootrec /fixmbr
Fix the Partition Boot Record/Boot sector.
>bootrec /fixboot
importantly, rebuild the BCD
>Bootrec /rebuildbcd

If so then I suggest you make a Partition Boot CD (using another PC of course) and have a closer look at your HDD particularly the "C" partition. Note that letter assignments like C are given by Windows. Boot discs, including the system repair disk, don't know this and assign arbitrary letters.

I had a distribution list for a mass email for some of our customers. But when we got Microsoft Exchange everything copied over but this one (the most important list!) did not copy over. But I checked through the sent messages and was able to copy the list from the BCC Field to a text file.

Now, I need to get this list of people back in a distribution list. If anyone knows how I can achieve this, please help me out! I've been google-ing this and cant seem to find something to work for me!

I'm running Win10 Pro 64bit and Revo Uninstaller Pro v3.1.5. There is a huge discrepancy in the installed programs lists provided by Revo Uninstaller and the Win10 Programs and Features control panel. They both say there are 83 installs (that's good). But Revo Uninstaller claims that 15 programs were installed a few days ago on 2/29/2016. The correct number is 3 which is what Win10 says. Today I uninstalled Revo Uninstaller (using Revo Uninstaller to do it) and then reinstalled it. No help.

I guess it might be OK to ignore this discrepancy but I find it surprising.

I show same thing. You may have discovered a "leap day" bug in the Revo app. I wouldn't worry about it, honestly. It's how it calculates the term "Recently". If you use CCleaner and look at tools/uninstall it list progs. Sort descending date...you get a another answer.

I am currently receiving 27 reports that I have to compile into a master list on a daily basis. I tried creating an .bat file using notes to copy these lists into a master list but it is not working (please see code below).

copy *.xls importfile.xls

When I run this file it only copies one of the 27 files. Is there a way that I can run a macro to do this for me. I am really not familiar with macro's and am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.

The files in question are all identical except that each file pertains to a different Div in our company.

I have two lists.
List one is raw data. List two is a collection of flag/alert words.

I need to find any term in list one that contains any flag word from list two.



In this example every term on list one would return a result of 'true'. LIST TWO is always much shorter than list one.

I was trying to set it up so that in the column directly to the right of LIST ONE produces a 'true' if that list one term contains in any fashion any term from LIST TWO.

As you will see in the example I was also trying to have a similar column to the right of LIST TWO so that I could easily see how many of the key terms had been found in the much larger list.

The sample also has color fill based on the True/False to make it easier to visualize.

Can anyone help make this work correctly?
Match does not work because I am not looking for identical strings.
I have not been able to get Find or Search to work either.

As of right now it only seems to look at the other list's entry on the exact same ROW.

I have another doozy. The Add or Remove Programs menu is not showing the entire list of installed applications. The list ends alphabetically at "M".

I just turned on an WinXP system that hasn't been used for months. I have tried several things to fix the problem:

Installed all WinXP updates from Microsoft's Windows updater.

Hijackthis doesn't show anything unusual (See list below). Norton Antivirus 2004 shows a few alerts (see below), but NAV cannot remove them. Housecall antivirus scanner does not show the same alerts. Spybot S&D doesn't show anything related (nor does it show the "Spyware threat"s that NAV shows.

I tried the suggestions from Symantec to remove Dlder here, but nothing related to the Dlder alerts were found. I also disabled System Restore. How do I remove what NAV has found?

However, all applications do show in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. I even tried exporting the Uninstall key, and clicking on it to reinstall all of the entries.

Well, the title about says it. I read somewhere that one way to preserve memory is to get rid of unused fonts. So, what I want to do is to produce a list on a sheet or two of paper that shows what each font looks like. I know I can look at an print a sample of a font but I want a list so that can look at all of them at the same time and thus bette compare them to see which I want to keep. Thanks. grandpaw7

So first off I have a Sony Vaio Flip with windows 8. I used to have two separate windows ID's. I deleted the second windows login long ago. I recently purchased a smart TV and the current ID and the old ID are showing on the TV's input options as networks. Now I don't want to confuse anyone with my lack of tech lingo but the two windows logins are wireless access to that specific users files and such. These two "networks" are not associated with my wireless network I use to connect to the internet via my smart TV, laptop, or iPhone.
Not sure if this is a windows 8 related issue, or maybe those "networks" are related to a feature on my laptop, because the networks are named
VAIO: [email protected] & VAIO: [email protected] and these do not show up as available options on my wifi list say on the laptop or my iPhone, they are showing up on my smart TV however. I have deleted the windows login that I want gone already, I just need help getting that 2nd ID to not show up on my TV.

I have already read a lot on different forums trying to figure this out and have tried the managing known networks thing and these Vaio networks do not show in the known networks list. I have also tried going to the registry and checking for the network profile but found nothing there either. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

They are Microsoft user accounts, not networks.
Your Vaio has connected with your Smart TV already, if you have two M.S. accounts, it wants to know which one to access details from.
To prevent it showing you need to delete the account in it's entirety, not just from your laptop.

Ok, so basically i downloaded Netflix to my laptop. Then I went to put a shortcut on my desktop but it wasn't under "All Apps" I went to go uninstall it but I couldn't since it wasn't in the list. It is accessible if i go into the windows store and open it from there. But other than that it doesnt show up when i search for it and it isnt in programs and features. I dont think the problem is specifically with netflix.

For all I know, this is a really dumb question but it struck me as odd and I haven't been able to resolve the problem.

I have been using a dialup connection (56k modem) to access the internet from my home while I wait for the cable to become available in my area. A few days ago, I was having a problem connecting to my ISP and figured it might be my modem because I have had no connectivity problems whatsoever in the past. So I reinstalled my modem from the device manager. Not the drivers, just the hardware device. I then clicked on my dialup shortcut to connect to my ISP. The connection was successful, but no connection icon appeared in my system tray. When I click on the dialup shortcut while online, no connection status window appears, just the same username/password prompt box. On top of that, the only thing I have listed in Network Connections now is my LAN connection (inactive). I tried creating new connections with different names, and I was able to connect to my ISP with these as well, but the same exact problem occurred again. No connection icon in the system tray, no status window, no listing in Network Connections. Although when I try to create a new connection using the same name, it tells me a connection with that name already exists.

Although this problem presents no real practical difficulties (I am still able to connect to my ISP and access the internet), the fact that things just aren't working right is interesting and irritating too. Any ideas on ... Read more

Using the inbuilt duplicate highlight function in a column lists everything that is a duplicate. Even when a filter is applied it still shows entries as duplicate. Which is correct, it is a duplicate.

Hey Guys,

I am having this problem where in the system tray the network icon is showing incorrect information. It displays a red "x" even though I am surfing the internet. When I hover over the icon it displays "Connection status:unknown The specified service does not exist as an installed service".

I stumbled upon this post and I noticed that I am completely missing Network List Service. How do I make this option visible in the list of services? Can I somehow install this service?

Like so many, I need help with a slowing computer, and appreciate your site. Would someone please tell me why my Task Mgr. Processes list showed 54, and the System Configeration Utility showed only 23 that were checked? I already unchecked 14 of those, & have shutdown several times since, and now have 47 processes showing in Task Mgr. (??) Do I simply use the definitions on sysinfo.org and delete what I determine in Task Mgr? I wonder why the lists do not match?

OK. This is driving me crazy. Using Active Directory I created a Global Security group. I also tried Global Distribution group. Neither of them are showing in my Global Address book. What am I missing?

It has to be set up as a Global Distribution group and you have to ensure it has an email address. I am not sure it will show up until you restart Outlook.

I know that it's the System Restore folder, and if a virus was there I won't be able to fix it so how can I add it to the exceptions? It will save a lot of time in running a full system scan.

I had an usual experience last weekend while traveling. The hotel wifi network (LaQuinta) that I was trying to connect to with my laptop wasn't showing in the list of available wifi networks. I was able to connect with my iPhone, my wife's iPhone and also a netbook that I carry as a back up. It was clear looking at the netbook that the hotel's network was the strongest local signal, it was the only network to show up on the phones but on the laptop (which was showing the other wifi's that the netbook detected) it wasn't there.
This is a Dell laptop running Win7 SP1.
I tried restarting the computer...several times.
I deleted a couple of profiles (LaQuinta and La Quinta) that had been created when I visited other hotels. I've never stayed at this particular one before.
I used the command prompt and the Netsh tool to look for any filters...there weren't any, and LaQuinta didn't show up in the list of networks there either.
In the end, somewhat surprisingly, the hotel also had a wired connection in the room so I used that and went back to work.

Does anyone know what was going on, in case this happens again? I'm stumped.

Hello, i have just recently started having some weird performance problems with my computer. It has been locking up a lot lately and a few times when i had to hard-reset it, my main WD 160GB hard drive would not show up on the list of drives in startup. I would then have to restart and try again maybe 2 more times and then the drive would finally show up and i'd have to change the boot priority back to it. Is the drive failing? Might it be a memory / processor issue as well? (with the locking up and 1 BSOD)

I've just installed the beta of Windows 7 on a 2 disk set-up, XP already installed on the other disk. I know there isn't a Windows 7 forum but it's essentially Vista so the solution should be as Vista I imagine.

If you install Vista after XP shouldn't XP appear in the Vista boot menu? In my case it doesn't but I'd like it to.

The only way I can set which OS boots is by selecting which drive boots first through the BIOS.
Is there a simple way to fix this?

Hi all, Ive got a user with good tech skills who needs to boot from USB for a Win10 install. Simple enough except the USB option isnt showing on boot menu.    Hitting F12 at splash screen only shows PCI LAN and the HDD0 with the USB plugged in. Ive been through BIOS with him and it looks good:- Secure Boot = Disabled- Startup > Boot = No items excluded from boot priority order Tried the USB on all USB ports - no goodUSB works on other laptops - he tried it So I throw it out to the brains trust which is this forum - any suggestions? Thanks,Riv.

When selecting file/print from within Excel, normally you get a list of printers from which you can make a selection. All I can see is one printer when I have plenty of others loaded, as I can see from start/setting/printers.

The computer had BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen 2012 on, I got some help here forum post and was able to remove it and the computer seems to be acting fine now. I noticed on the programs list AV Security 2012 was showing, so I googled it and found out it was also malware. The search led me to a another place on bleeping computer that tells how to remove it. In this instance, now that the computer seems all right otherwise - what do I do? thanks,mystmaiden

Hello,let's make sure there is no malware running.Run RKill....Download and Run RKillPlease download RKill by Grinler from one of the 4 links below and save it to your desktop.

Before we begin, you should disable your anti-malware softwares you have installed so they do not interfere RKill running as some anti-malware softwares detect RKill as malicious. Please refer to this page if you are not sure how.
Double-click on Rkill on your desktop to run it. (If you are using Windows Vista, please right-click on it and select Run As Administrator)
A black screen will appear and then disappear. Please do not worry, that is normal. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.

I created a .bat file so that I can create an adhoc network with SSID = adhocnetwork.

CMD says that the hosted network has started but it did not showed up on the available networks list.

Additional info., this is the first time it happened, its been a long time since I created an adhoc network(used it to play old school LAN game with friends) and now this occured.

Here's what happened:

I wanted to burn a disc using Windows Media Player using my laptop computer. For some reason, the burn button was not showing up. I couldn't click on it. I checked the file properties of the music files I was burning and they were MP3s, which I have never had a problem burning before with this type of file. So I decided to restart the computer. Once the computer finished the restart process, I clicked back into my start program, only to find out all my files are gone! I went into the Control Panel to check if they were completely gone, but the program list is showing all my files. I was able to access WMP by clicking on the exe file in my program files through Computer and was able to burn the disc. After that, I shut down the computer, waited five minutes, and started the computer up again. My start program is still not listing the files.

I notice twice that when the computer loaded my desktop, I got a corrupted file notice. It was an exe file, with the letters in some form of MSCAC. It comes and goes really quick so I can barely grab it. I tried to do a search for the file, but the window keeps crashing.

I also notice that I do not have certain Administrative properties anymore, like checking my Performance Logs. I had to click edit on the dialog pop-up boxes so I could gain access, but I am the sole Administrator on my laptop.

Could someone figured out what the heck happened?

I just started having this problem yesterday. I was experiencing weird downloading/internet browsing issues and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I started looking around my router settings and noticed that in my DHCP Client list, my computer isn't in it. The router is hooked up to the computer, so it's not wireless. My phone and my girlfriend's laptop are listed, but the main computer isn't. It's especially causing problems with port forwarding. Downloads will stop because the port isn't showing as open.

I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 and a Belkin N+ Wireless Router, model F5D8235-4. Firmware is up to date.

Any ideas?

I found a nice free version of Mancala, useful for dead seconds when things are loading or changing ...

The description says it's shareware, but when I wrote the creator to pay him he said he released it to freeware a long time ago.

By the way, I tried to copy the pop-up box that shows when my cursor hovers over the game icon, but nothing worked. I tried to copy the Properties page too, thinking that information might be helpful, but could only get one line at a time. The Description is the line I chose.

For future reference, is there anyway to copy potentially important but uncopyable (is that even a word) small screens?

Hi all,

I setup my first scheduled task of an executable. But the task is not showing up in the list of Active tasks. I know that it is there because I re-created it and it stated that it already exists. In case I have to modify it, I need to be able to see it. And yes, I have clicked to show 'Hidden Tasks'.

Trying to set up Bluetooth file transfer with my mobile. I can send files to my phone successfully, but can't send from phone->PC. I get a "Storage Issue" error on my PC, even though it will say successful transfer on my phone.

While trying to pinpoint this problem, I noticed this:


How am I supposed to check something if the service list is empty? Not sure if this is related to my issues, but its the only lead I can find.

Go to the search by start menu

Type services

In services look for bluetooth Make sure it is on automatic.
