New Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fingerprint Scanner Broken

Q: New Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fingerprint Scanner Broken

Hello everyone, today I received my X1 carbon 6th gen. Upon setup, I couldn't complete the fingerprint scan and received the message that the device has disconnected. After the initial setup, I tried to complete the fingerprint scan again, but I only got the same message that the scanner was disconnected. I looked around online and found some forum posts about the uninstalling drivers and installing new ones. I followed all the information I found but to no luck. Maybe I was looking at the wrong drivers online or something. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I even activate the user admin account by using the cmd and enter the command net user admin /active:yes (something like that). After that the admin account was open. But still it prompted that error. What should I do to enroll my fingerprint? Please help me!!

Hey, About a week ago I came back from vacation, Jan 20-29, and I installed a bunch of updates through the lenovo service center. A couple days later I noticed the fingerprint scanner had stopped working and a couple of days ago I noticed my usb ports weren't working either, with several usb drives that I had proven functional on a friends computer. After reinstalling some BIOS and usb drivers I have solved the usb problem, and I'm almost positive the fingerprint scanner is the result of some software. The timing is way too convenient to be anything else in my opinion. When trying to set up fingerprints through the "fingerprint enrollment" window it'll say "Cannot communicate with the sensor, please confirm the sensor is ready." Any and all suggestions are welcome. Morten Nissov

I wasn't sure if this was the place for this but here goes.

when using the fingerprint scanner on a network with pasword changes every 90days, does the fingerprint scanner on a lenovo laptop synch properly with a newly updated password? I have a user here who changed the password but the fingerprint scanner did not seem to recognize the change since when you first set it up it asks for your current password. Once setup correctly all you have to do is scan your fingerprint and it logs you in.

Any info would be great.

Thanks,

I've tried to delete the fingerprint data from the [F1] Menu and the problem didn't go away. Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"The sign in option using the fingerprint does not even show up in the Windows settings for Sign In. Things I have already tried:1) Update the driver through the Device Manager 2) Download and reinstall the fingerpring driver from the Lenovo drivers website3) Reset fingerprint settings in the BIOS and making sure it is enabled4) Change configuration in "gpedit.msc" -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> windows components -> biometrics -> allow the use of biometrics and allow users to log on using biometrics set to enabled None of the 4 attempts above solved the problem. Can anyone please provide any solution for this case? It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

Hello, I have a new Thinkpad X380 Yoga Type 20 LJ and am experiencing the following problem with my fingerprint scanner: When I start my computer from a completely shutdown state; the white light on the scanner lights up as soon as the lock screen comes up and I can scan my finger --> no issues whatsoever. But, when I put my computer to sleep and open the lid again after a few minutes have passed; the lock screen comes up promptly but the white light on the fingerprint scanner needs atleast 10-15 secs more to come up and only then can I scan my finger. This really screws up the whole fast wake up experience. Looking forward to a prompt response or solution Thank you.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

X1 Carbon 6th Gen - (Type 20KH, 20KG) Laptop (ThinkPad) on ThinkPad Pro Dock.  I have a secondary display (connected with DisplayPort).  When the battery is charging, the secondary display works properly.  As soon as the battery is fully charged (100%), the secondary display disconnects and goes black (no signal detected).  The power is still on the the display.  The only way to get the secondary display to reconnect is to unplug the power supply from the dock, then plug it in again.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Apologies if something similar has been posted, I just can't find the answer. We have a 5th Generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. At the moment the display is mirrored using a VGA cable to connect to the dock. What we would like instead is to connect the dock to 2 external monitors with separate content on each monitor and the laptop display blank. I just can't figure out if this is possible, what might be needed, and how! Any help greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.  Do you see anything for Fingerprint in BIOS?  If you don't, its a hardware problem.  See below post.  Especially the responses by Lenovo employee.  Below is not the only post where he says if there is no hardware detected in BIOS then its a hardware problem.

I just received this Yoga c930 from Lenovo.com.  I'm not really technically experienced.  I was looking for a video editing program and I started downloading Filmora, checking all of the boxes as I proceeded.  When the program began to run, I realized that it wasn't Filmora but instead a Device Driver update.  So I stopped the program and contacted the company (Slimware I think) to remove the program and refund my money.  They refunded my money and gave me instructions to remove the program.  Good company. My problems is that the fingerprint scanner no longer works.  I went to 'sign-in options' to activate it but it is no longer there. At the top of the page it says that Windows is preventing some of the sign-in options from working.  The computer is too new to have restore points, so I went to this website and let Lenovo look at my computer.  It suggested many drivers including fingerprint. so I downloaded them and installed them.  Still no fingerprint scanner and no Windows Hello.I know my ignorance caused this problem and I'm hoping brighter minds can help me with a solution. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.Rick

Hi: Try the HP Client Security Manager software, which superceded the HP Protect Tools Security Manager software... HP Client Security Manager provides enhanced Windows login and website single-sign-on capabilities. Security Manager is also the host for HP Client Security plugins, and therefore should be installed before other Client Security modules. This package is provided for supported models running a supported operating system. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74101.exe

Hello All!

I don't know how to work my fingerprint reader!

Here are some details about my comp and what I've done so far:
HP Compaq 6710b Laptop(i know i know, thats my problem right there... newaze )
Windows 7
Vista Drivers for the fingerprint reader are installed
Nothing relevant in control panel that i could find:
-Credential Manager
-Biometric Devices
-User Accounts

In Biometric Devices however, it does say that the reader is ready to use and that it is on and enabled to allow users to log on to windows using their fingerprints.

I've redownloaded the driver from the hp site but no change. Maybe because its a Vista driver and I'm using Windows 7?

Dunno what else to do to get this puppy working... any ideas???
