Peak Wireless SOHO Netcam problem

Q: Peak Wireless SOHO Netcam problem

Hi I am running Windows XP SP2 and have a adsl broadband with a Belkin wireless modem/router. I have just bought a Peak Wireless Network Camera (model 3531CLPK330W) which has an inbuilt web server which can feed a video stream to the internet without needing an attached pc. You just configure it with the pc after connection to the router and then let it get on with sending out video irrespective of if the pc is on or not. The stream can be viewed on any web browser with Active X or java.

OK, I can connect it fine to my network, the router assigns it an IP number and I can view video fine on any machine within my network of 4 pc's. At present, for example my main pc has network IP number and the netcam My ISP IP number (Dynamically assigned) at this time is

I have asked various people online to check the camera's IP number but (not suprisingly being a number on my network) they cannot see it. As I say, it works just fine within my network.

The netcam is configurable vis web browser controls and has various options regarding TCP numbers etc that I am reluctant to interfere with until I have a better idea what I am doing.

Can anyone advise me how to configure the netcam so it can be accessed from the internet?

Many thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is your Web IP address (sometimes also called WAN IP, external IP, etc), i.e NOT the 192.168.. IP address a static or a dynamic IP address? You'll have signed up for one or the other with your ISP.

I suspect it is the latter; thus from time to time (the frequency depending on your ISP) it will change, hence the name(!), and your external users will have difficulty accessing your webcam.

Your either obtain a static IP from your ISP, these tend to cost a couple of quid more per month, or you can stick with the dynamic IP address, but you can sign up to a Dynamic DNS service. This will allow you to obtain a name for your site/webcam (e.g. fred.domain.com or whgatever) and the DynDNS serivce will keep your name current with your dynamic IP. You will find that www.dyndns.com, or www.no-ip.com (to name but two, there are many others) offer a basic free service that may meet your needs. You'll need to run a little program on either your router or a PC on your LAN that periodically notifies the DynDNS service when the WAN IP changes: some routers have such software as standard, or your can check your DynDNS providers site as they often provide such software for download.

Your friends need never beinformaed of the WAN IP numbers; you just tell them the memorable name you configured up with the DynDNS provider.

The 192.168... are private LAN addresses and are not routable over the Internet.

I'm having all sorts of problems with a D-Link 624S Super-G Wireless router. I've had plenty of problems with this in the past, but for a little while things were working alright. Then we switched ISP's (qwest to comcast), and things have gotten all screwed up again

Currently, Comcast has provided us with a cable modem (not sure of the model number, and its in a room mates, so i can't check it right now). Initially i thought this would be a relief, because now we would not have 2 routers running... little did i know that the same problems as before would come back to plague me.

Right now the d-link is set to almost default settings, but have changed a couple of settings. Based on this information i tried turning off the UPNP setting. I have also enabled wireless, and set up WEP for the time being.

But even with stock settings, (after enabling wireless that is) i have very finicky problems with the internet. Half of websites i visit time out, even though i have a "great" signal strength. There is nothing in either my room, or the room the router is in that would interfere with the wireless signal, yet this problem does not happen for my flat mate, who is plugged directly into the router.

Also, i can ping google.com almost all of the time without any problems, even when websites are not loading, and i'm currently using DHCP IP addresses, if thats relevant. Oh, and the firmware is version 1.00, and as far as i can tell thats the most rece... Read more

A:Wireless Firebox SOHO 6 not working

Took a look at that manual out of curiosity; hope you got a really, really great deal if the manual is up-to-date because the router is pretty out-of-date (is it really only 'b' band?) and it seems to be far more complicated than most people need, even in a small office. And I don't see how you are getting any features in return for the complexity.

Somewhere near the beginning of the manual it says that by default the wireless signal is OFF, so for sure there is at least one setting you need to make to get it to work at all. Maybe somebody with familiarity with the router will be able to help you.

Have you considered upgrading to a 'g' wireless network, or are all the computers too old or the budget too tight?

I am completely dumb with wireless.
We bought an oki mb400 printer to replace our small usb canon desktop printer. This printer is setup on a Windows 7 Pro computer. We have a workgroup of three computers sharing this usb printer.

The Oki is in the box. I will remove it and begin the setup.
I do not know how to setup the Oki for wireless/wifi.
I have read the Oki pdf document and that leaves me confused.
Do I turn on the Oki MB400 - and use its panel to setup? Do I access the router - to set it up?
Do I need to do this within Windows 7 - but how? in the past I inserted the USB cable - turned on the printer and Windows 7 installed the driver.

Everything in our shop is wired. But we need to improve our situation such as using wireless devices.
Let me know what needs to be done.
I do apologize for being uninformed on possibly something that may be very less than intimidating.

So, I've successfully configured some wireless SOHO routers as access points and they all work fine. I've done this with various brands of routers, including Linksys, Netgear, Belkin, and D-Link.

One thing I've noticed is sometimes I'll experience poor wireless performance with the SOHO router configured as an access point. For example, a wired Internet connection might yield 18MBps download speeds and a wireless connection, through a wireless SOHO router configured as an access point, to the same broadband modem will yield 1.5-2MBps download speeds.

Of course, a wired connection will be faster than a wireless one but my question is: is there anything inherent to configuring a wireless SOHO router as an access point that would cause a degradation in performance? I would think there wouldn't be but I'm asking the question here.

The process I've used to configure the wireless SOHO router as an access point involves assigning the router an IP address within the subnet of the main router but outside of its DHCP assignment range, disabling the DHCP server in the wireless router, and configuring the wireless settings the way I normally would, in terms of SSID, security, etc.

A:Question about wireless SOHO routers as access points

Nothing that I can think of. Problem space includes wireless interference, defective router (either the wireless or the ethernet part) and defective cable between main router and the router configured as WAP.

I am currently with Virgin Broadband in the UK which supply up to 50Mbps. During non-peak I get 50 Mbps through the ethernet and about 20Mbps on my laptop through a wireless connection to my router which is fine...

The problem is that during peak times, I get a speed of less than 7/8Mbps through my wireless connection which I feel is unfair considering I am paying for up to 50Mbps. (A connection via ethernet only drops by 4-5 Mbps to 45Mbps).

Should this be happening? I don't understand how the increase in demand during peak times should affect my ethernet and wireless connection differently. If anyone has a solution I would be very grateful.

A:Wireless broadband v slow during peak hours; ethernet unaffected

Assuming that you run an encrypted wireless connection and changed the login and password for your router, just check how many wireless networks you can see in your connection manager during the peak hours vs normal hours. You may be just suffering from interference from the neighboring networks. In non-peak hours all of those routers around you are just broadcasting their network names, thus taking little bandwidth. In peak hour the information traffic between the routers and computers connected to them picks up and creates interference.

If you see a lot of networks around, get some free software, such as Net Stumbler, that would allow you to see what channels those networks operate on and select an unoccupied (or less occupied) channel in your router.

I am about to replace my old server. It's a Pentium 166 w/64MB mem and 20GB of storage on SCSI drives. My question is as follows:

1] Currently Pentium 3-600 MHZ servers are selling for about $300. 9GB wide ultra scsi drives are $30. A very capable server w/ 27 GB of storage and 1 GB of mem could be constructed for about $600. Brands available are Compaq, HP, and IBM. All are designed w/fault tollerance and redundancy features built in. Some offer multiple precessor capability(up to 4).

2) I could build an Athlon 64 machine w/twin 160Gig Sata drives and 1 gig mem for slightly more money, but the machine would lack the "heavy duty, fault tollerant design features of the Proleineas etc.

Which would be the best strategy in a 4 user small office environment?

Thanks for your opinions.

A:Help with SOHO networking strategy.

What will the server be doing? For e-mail, file serving and domain control your current server is enough. Add some RAM and storage space if needed and it will do fine.

Unless you are running some database then that P166 is enough CPU wise for your needs. With 512 megs of RAM that machine can run 2k3 server or any other server OS just fine if you need a software upgrade.

If you absolutely have to have a new server, buy the cheapest server (builtin SCSI RAID and stuff) you can find and it will be more than those 4 users ever would want.

(1) Mac (OS-X Tiger)
(1) GT701-WG modem / wireless router ( DHCP - 20
(1) D-Link 624S storage router ( DHCP - 120

Current setup is D-Link is hardwired to the Actiontec, actiontec is connected to DSL (via Qwest)

-- D-Link router is dropping tons of packets for the Mac (~25 feet away)
-- slow connection speeds on D-link (even when i'm 5 feet away)
-- Mac gets warnings about lost connection when browsing my files via D-Link
-- If D-Link modem is within ActionTec DHCP range, it does not connect to WAN

I think there are some other problems that have been coming up, but i figure i'll put this out and see what kind of help is offered before i scare you away with more questions

My current business is set up with a cisco router connected to a register

credit cards during purchases. This was already set up for us. The
register is connected to port 1 of a cisco soho router which is connected to
a cable modem.

We recently purchased a stand alone PC and connected it to port 2 of the
router. That PC is dynamically assigned the IP of and shows a
default gateway of We can access the internet with no
problem with this PC.

We are going to purchase a camera system that will attach to the router for
remote monitoring. I need to open port 7777 of the router, but am unable to
get into the configuration to do so.

The cisco router book says that I should type in a browser to get
to the config screen. This does not work. It also makes it look like it
should be handing out IP addresses starting with 10.10. not 192.168. I've
tried using to access the router but it doesn't work either.

What do I need to do to get into the router config?

This network is currently changing from P2P to a domain environment. VPN is running well and can see P2P resources on both sides of tunnel. Server has been installed and PCs within the Main office join up fine.

My only problem is that I cannot get remote PCs to join the domain through the tunnel. I suspect (hope) that this may simply be a DNS issue. I'm thinking of distributing a HOSTS file to these 10 PCs. I have a box with Windows Vista Home Basic installed. I've realized that while the factory backup software included with Windows Vista Home Basic manages to copy most of my user content it doesn't provide a way to save certain user files and it doesn't let me exclude certain files and folders--as to speed up the back up process and saving some space in the backup media.

Therefore, I'm looking for something that can run backups for selected files and folders at regular intervals. That software must ask any user of the computer -- including non administrators-- to insert removable media (DVD+-RW, USB key, or USB Hard disk) when the need arises. The computer may be turned off or be sleeping at the scheduled backup time. The expected backup size is 3 GB to 20 GB. Also, the backup software must provide a way to recover single files and directories to a specified folder location.

The main backup media will be DVD +/- RW but I may end up using, either, USB keys or an external USB hard disk at some point.

While I'm a complete novice regarding backup software I have noted down some features that I thought may be worthwhile for such kind of software being used in a home environment:
Low footprint.
Easy-of-use and friendliness for the novice.
Low chances to conflict with Windows Vista (after an update).
Free customer support.
None or few known and unresolved software bugs.
A free software updates feature would be welcome.

Hi guys,

I've recently bought a new computer, and it's an issue I've had with another Windows 7 desktop that I purchased before. Unfortunately, when I fixed it originally, I don't exactly remember how because it was after hours of frustrating trial and error.
Anyways, the issue is that while all volume levels are set for peak output, the green/grey volume bar is only going up about halfway. I have been told to check all settings, check my speakers and reinstall my audio driver; however, none of them have fixed the problem. I have plugged my speakers directly into my iPod and they work fine, and I've tried different music-playing software, and the same issue persists.

If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this problem, it was be appreciated.

Hey everyone,

I have been having trouble with my network. I recently, (2 days ago), upgraded my cable high speed internet service from 2mbps down and .2 mbps up to 15 mbps down and 2 mbps up. However, even during non peak hours, pretty much all the time, the best download speed I can get is 4-5mbps. My upload speed stays where it should, at 2mbps. It is really only my download speed I am concerned about, because this happens every day all day. When I first upgraded the service, I got 12-13 mbps download speed, so something must have happened between then and now where I cant receive that anymore. My modem is a doscis 2, not 3, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. It is an Arris TM602G/15 model. But as I said, I have received close to the full download speeds before, but not anymore.

Any help? Thanks!

A:Not getting speeds I am paying for... Even during NON-peak

Try contacted the service provider again ? They should have technicians to be able to check it for you. Could also be a line problem, did you add anymore lines to your cable lines inside ?

How are you testing it, where ? Did you change any other settings on PC. Windows does all optimizations for you.

Try resetting the modem, unplug it for 15 seconds, then plug back in. Or unplug and reboot PC. Usually a way to reset the modem back to factory state, need to check your service providers website for your model modem to be able to access it's settings. Usually you type in an address in your browser to access it.

This PC keeps crashing more times than you see crashes on the freeway. It comes in bursts. With the time between narrowing until it crashes during loading. Not the BSOD type - just flop - like the electrical power stopped.

Sometimes it seems like its overheated as reason (the temps though read normal).
Other more frequent times its just clicking on a folder - crash. Or scaring it by moving or scrolling the mouse too quickly - crash. As if the exertion was to much. Its not windows. I can reformat or grab another HDD & install win7x64 on it and thump - crash. Sometimes the critter will go for a day or three. Then it starts again. When it happened at the height of last summer the Repair shop claimed it was over heating. They were guessing. When I left it there it never crashed.

The sys. info =

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. EP35-DS3P
Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
8.00 GB 8.00 GB
(1) USB Audio Device (2) High Definition Audio Device
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1
Its a damn good PC I don't want to replace it.

A:PC more crashes than peak hour on the freeway.

I know you said you weren't getting traditional BSOD's, but there may be older ones that give clues. Follow these steps:
