I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday, I did a scan of my network with WireShark 3.2.6  Scan was done on my hardwired Ethernet connection. I am somewhat new to advanced wireshark and I do not know everything there is to know but I am in the process of learning.
While looking at the results of a short scan I saw some unsettling IP Addresses that were appearing on my network. I do a lot of schoolwork online and I need to setup Windows 10 Professional's Firewall to block this IP Address or possibly even a range of
IP Addresses.
Problem is: When I do searches with keywords such as "Blocking an IP Address with Windows 10 firewall" I end up receiving results that are intended for businesses or results that are meant for a Windows Server.
I need an understandable solution to this potential security problem. One that I can use Microsoft tools to fix and not some 3rd party app if possible.
My system:
Windows 10 Professional build 18363.1016
MS Office 365 Enterprise Edition subscription through my school

Alright; I used Trend Micro PC-Cillin 2005 from that year until November of 2006, after which I couldn't afford to relicense it for continued updates. I continued to use it, along with scans with AdAware6SE, until a few days ago, when I uninstalled TMPCC (four gigabytes taken by it!), and replaced it with AVG and Comodo Firewall. In all the time I used TMPCC, I only ever caught one ilegal access in late November, one harmful trojan that was stopped before it could do damage, and one trojan which made it through, but thankfully was relaying data to a now-defunct address, according to it's stats page.

However, going over the security alerts in Comodo, I've had several inbound policy violation access attempts from, which I tracked from APNIC as belonging to an IP serviced by CNC Sichuan, China. I've also had a few outbound policy violations listed, from my networked IP to the aformentioned Sichuan address, with the message "PORT UNREACHABLE". It's referring to Port 8000, which I sometimes use for a SHOUTCast radio; the only other Port open on the PC is an obscure, more-than-four-digits one, for uTorrent (for sharing free albums from OC ReMix, legal). The google search I ran on the offending IP turned up quite a few tracking sites, so I'm guessing this is some automated script thing and I'm not sure if I should be worried. I attempted to send an abuse complaint with the relevant information to the CNC abuse email addre... Read more

If a program installed malware and the anti malware found something.
Will it delete the malware itself or will it delete the program that came with the malware too?

A:Will an anti malware uninstall the program that installed the malware or only the malware itself?

I find your question a bit confusing, maybe it's just me.
But I think I understand your way of asking your question, and I will try to answer:

If for example Internet_Browser_A unintentionally installs stealthy malware by a driveby advertisement / exploit,
then Anti_Malware_B will only detect and remove unwanted malware and leave Internet_Browser_A intact and alone.
But if Internet_Browser_A in the same turn also gets infected, then Anti_Malware_B will try to disinfect or quarantine
Internet_Browser_A aswell.

Does that answer your question and did I understand it correctly?

For at least 6 months my internet connection has been unpredictably unstable. The funny thing is, when I get a disconnection, it does not behave like a normal disconnection. It is more like a cut-off. When a true disconnection happens, phone equipment and modems are sent a signal from telecom/ISP that a disconnection has occured. To which then my ISP client disconnects automatically, which is rare. All other times, as in 95% of the time, I get a cut-off, where the modem is confused and does not recognize it as a disconnetion, thus I have manually disconnect and reconnect. These cut-offs occur randomly, number in the range of 50+ per month, no exaggerations. I use a US Robotics Pro Modem. Some statistics you may want to know:

- My other PC suffers the same problem
- Neighbors in the area report the same problems
- Same problem has occured with multiple ISPs
- Verizon is my telecom, and when I had them as and ISP, same problems occured (now I have Earthlink).
- Regardless of what I am doing on net, browsing, MMO gaming, email, cut-offs occur
- Sometimes I seem to have cut-off black out periods, where I am cut-off several times within a 10 minute period
- One time when I played and MMO, City of Heroes, I was cut-off 8 times within a 15 minute period. And yep, I relogged everytime because my team need help in fighting and archvillian, I was the only main damager (we finally buryed the AV)
- I did a complete reinstall in the past, no changes

Hi all,

I've been working as a telecommunications analyst for a non-profit company for almost five years. Our IT dept. is only 9 people large with a director of IT, an applications mgr., a helpdesk mgr (my boss), a programmer/developer, and a few helpdesk techs. We have about 30 servers. I just finished my bachelor's degree in business administration and will be starting on a master's in networking & communications mgmt in less than two months, and I might even double major in management of information systems. I have no current certifications and have put them off while working on my formal education. That seems to take all of my study time right now and will for the next 2 to 3 ? years (depending on if I double major).

Ultimately working with networks, working with servers, switches, routers, etc. is what I want to do. I love playing with these things (obviously not live business networks). I have very little real server or network admin experience, however. I do the basics on a weekly basis – setup new users, e-mailboxes, create shares, deal with permissions issues, etc. – all the basic stuff, but I want more. I was thinking of talking with my boss about giving me more exposure to server/network admin work. I'm sure he'll be open to it. He's a great boss that wants to keep his employee’s happy and allow them to grow.

My problem is that I’m not sure where to start in my request. He might ask me for ideas on what I might want to start... Read more

A:From telecom to networks...

If you want to start with WSUS then go for it -

Paid training in Active Directory or anything else networking related is likely out of the question as this is not my primary responsibilityClick to expand...

I have to say ALL paid training has never helped me HALF as much as the real life experience of doing and seeing what is occuring.

What I would do is start getting your feet wet with some simple network discovery. Talk with people to determine how it is YOUR network works (each network is a little different and how one is setup can be totally different than how the next is setup). Then start to grow in the portion you want to learn about. AD, DNS, WAN, LAN, Proxy, AD Servers, Exchange, Routers, Firewalls, IIS... This is just to name a few of the paths you can take.

You will learn that though there are a TON of different parts of a network and very few people are masters of them all.

I myself tend to be more on the OS manipulation (I.E.scripting and mass changes), AD, DNS, Server, Client side and I tend to be a little more lacking on the Routers and firewalls side.

BT absolutely suck!

I placed an order over a week ago and my broadband still isnt enabled. They say I have a fault on my line and that they can't book an engineer until after the weekend, so its gonna be another week or so before I get broadband.

They do my head in ! Making me wait three years before they 'enabled my exchange' which is all a big con btw - and now they send me a router and say that 'its not gonna happen.'

GRRRR Think they're so good because they were a monopoly. Well now there are others, and one day they'll fall.

Right then here goes.

We use NT Server 4.0, MS Exchange 5.0 on the server and Office 97 and NT 4.0 on the clients.

One of our workers sent 30 or so emails at the same time and they all got stuck in the outward bound queue. Upon looking at the event viewer I noticed that there was an error saying that a connection could not be made with aol.com which was the destination of one of the emails.

This all resulted in our outward bound email getting stuck. When this happened before British Telecom (line provider and ISP) told us to stop and start the Internet Mail Service in Services.

This worked on 2 occasions so I did it again and now after a lenghty wait I get an error message saying Error 2140 Internet Mail Service could not start on server name, An internal windows NT error has occured.

I had a motherboard failure. I moved my 2 hard disks to a new computer, and installed a new OEM copy of Win 7 as drive C:, with new installation of apps.
The old computer had Win 7 and XP dual-booting in two drives on the same physical disk. Both of them, with all their installed apps, are redundant and dead as far as I?m concerned. They?re on a separate physical disk from drive C:.
Is it safe to delete them? I'd prefer not to format because there are also a lot of data files on it.

I used EasyBCD to check where the machine?s booting from, with this result:

?There is one entry in the Windows bootloader.
Default: Windows 7
Timeout: 30 seconds
Boot Drive: C:\
Entry #1
Name: Windows 7
BCD ID: {current}
Drive: C:\
Bootloader Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe?

A:Can I safely delete two old OS and their installed apps?

You can delete the OS files without affecting the user data. However, as you need to have a backup (for WHEN a hard drive fails, not IF) I would copy all the user data to a folder on the new drive, then format the old drive. Use the old drive as backup for the new drive using a full hard drive backup program such as Macrium Reflect (I don't like the Windows backup as it is not a full backup like the commercial backup programs).

BTW. you don't need Easy BCD to find out what is the boot drive. Just go to the System Configuration Panel (msconfig) and display the Boot. Click the Start orb and then enter either "System Configuration" or "msconfig" and press enter. The panel will come up and in the Boot Tab will be what OS (or OS's) are there. In fact if you had a dual boot of say Win 7 and Win XP in that panel and you wanted to remove XP all you have to do is delete it from that panel.

Here is mine, I have a dual boot with Win 7 and Win 8. Win 7 is set as the "default" during boot up.

Now everything is fine but when i browse chinesse sites i see the real chinesse font instead of strange sings like before.

Of course thats susposed to be good since now this sites at least look good but because some of scripts i wrote cant use the 'real chinesse fonts' i want to get back to my old install without this fonts. How can i do that?

Try going to Internet Options then at the bottom of the window click Languages. If Chinese is on that list, select it and click remove. Also, you can go to Add and Remove programs and tick the little box that says show updates, and look for anything that has to do with a Chinese Language Pack. Microsoft says theres no way to uninstall them so Good Luck

Somehow I downloaded Windows Genuine Advantage Notification. It now shows on the update icon, to be installed. I don't want to install it. How can I get rid of it?

A:Delete a downloaded Update that is not installed yet?

The best way clear the whole C:\Windows\SoftwareDistrubution folder and hide problematic hotfixes in Windows Update.Of course in this case you remove all downloaded hotfixes (wanted and unwanted). If you really want to remove only particular hotfix use any good 3p file manager (in my opinion build-in explorer is not good too to this kind operations) and search in file names hotfix ID,i.e if you want find data related to KB976672,you have to find in names this ID.

Relate to problematic updates:

If really some updates cause problems I suggest contact with manufacturer support or MS support, hidding updates is only temporary solution,if you leave it,you will have another problems with other updates in future too.

I attempted to install a 1200 series printer driver through Windows Vista and tried to print a test page. The 1200 series driver I downloaded was for another series of HP printers and did not work. I attempted to delete the erroneous printer but it still has the test page in the spool. I have attempted to cancel the printing avery way I know how, including trying to delete the file in the spool folder in Windows System 32. I cannot delete the printer while the job is pending and I cannot cancel the job. Does anyone know what I can do and what driver I can use with the HP Photosmart 1215? ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm new here so please bear with me.

If I can't delete the other instance of Windows a full format would be just as good if not better...

I have tried using the AW XP system recovery DVD, but when I'm at the "boot from disk" screen I cant use my keyboard to type the required "y" then enter, though I can use the keyboard can be use to select bios options, its only on the "boot from disk" screen that I can't use the frakking thing. I went to the option in the BIOS to enable USB, yet I still can't use the thing to select "y".

I also tried to formatting from the C drive Icon in the My Computer menu, I get this message: "Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of this drive. Try again."

I even tried formatting using DOS and I got a very similar message, though I don't recall the message exactly. Can anyone please help.

A:I got 2 separate instances of Win XP installed, can't delete them...help

When you do a new install of WinXP, it is usually best to delete the partition and format. It is too easy to have a duplicate installation installed on the same drive, otherwise (as you can see...).

I would backup anything important (pictures, documents, music etc), then go ahead, format and reinstall.

I am running Vista Home Premium. I have 7 downloaded updates to be installed for Mircrosoft Office 2007. I no longer have Mirosoft Office 2007 on my computer, I don't want to install the updates for it. But removing the check mark does not get rid of the download, it only stops the installation. How do I get rid of download?

A:Delete downloaded update that is not installed

Open Windows Explorer. Locate the System drive (the one with your OS on it) and click on the > next to it. Then Windows > Distribution Software, Then click on the Downloads folder so its contents is displayed in the right hand window. Delete everything in the Downloads folder. That should do it.

I've company installed Win Vista on primary drive and installed Win 7 on another drive (logical, created by using partition util). Now want to remove Win Vista and keep only Win 7. Is it correct if I format the drive containing Win Vista? Or will it affect Win 7 drive and other data drives also?

Will there be any need to play with MBR settings?

A:Delete pre-installed Windows Vista?

Please post a snip of the disk management window. Click start button, type diskmgmt.msc, hit Enter, the window that pops up is the one to be snipped.

Okay heres the deal, i just built an entirely new PC. Quad core, evga 8800gts 640mb, 4gb of corsair ram, the whole deal. At first i was going to use my.. not very legal version of windows pro if you know what i mean on my system but then i decided against all the problems it brings and i ordered a legit copy of XP home ( the non legit one was professional ). I stopped the installation of pro as it was going at about 39 minutes to go. Thinking that i could just somehow get back to where it shows your partitions and such and just delete them all and start new with XP home. Heres where i made a big problem.. now im trying to load XP home on. It gets up to the part right before where it shows the partitions and such and i get a blue screen saying error, restart your computer. If the problem persists, run CHKDSK /F for errors on your hard drive. Okay, now what do i do... do i let PRO finish loading on my computer and then when its done, just take it all right off ( IF you guys think that will work fine ) or is there another way where instead of waiting for the long load to install PRO, i can just get back to the partition lists and delete it all and start again? PLEASE help me as im dieing to get my OS up and running. Thanks alot! Keith.

A:How do I run CHKDSK at startup / Delete partitions! (no OS installed!)

Remember that CHKDSK requires exclusive access to the hard drive when it runs, or it will quit, and tell you it will run when all files and folders are closed.
Remember that it can sometimes take a very long time to run, depending on the size of the hard drive, and the number of folders and files.
Note that it will not always accuratedly give information if you run CHKDSK in read only mode.

Click Start->Run->Open-> Type CMD <enter>
At the resulting Command Prompt, type chkdsk <enter> to enter read only mode.
Otherwise, type chkdsk /F <enter> to repair errors without scanning the drive.

To run CheckDisk from Windows Explorer, or from My Computer, you must MyComputer <doubleclick>
C:\ <right click>
Properties->Tools->Error Checking->Check now-> then chose from the Check Disk Options.
Select Automatically Fix the File System Errors Box, or just click <Start> to run in read only.

If /F is not selected, it will not scan for errors, nor clean up errors.

On some installs you have three days to remove or pay... or the machine will freeze. If you are using a disc which has already had multiple installs, the computer will freeze without allowing you to run. Most other installs will give you 30 days to register the product ID.

Running ChkDsk for errors will not harm anything, and may help give you usefull information about your drive.

On one of my 1 Tb disks, I installed at first Win7-32bit (Disk E on the picture). Some months later on the same disk I made a new partition and installed Win7-64bit (Disk C on the picture). When I boot I am offered to select which OS I want to use.

Now I would like to delete the Win7-32bit partition to use the place for something else (non OS).

Question: May I simply delete the partition where Win7-32 ("E" on the picture)? Won't the boot be affected?

Thank you!

Whenever download an update to the NVidia drivers, the package always prompts for an extract location... by default its' C:\NVIDIA. Just wondering if once the update has been completed, is it safe to delete this folder and its contents?

You can delete the files in the installer folder, not the folder itself, just all the files inside. That will remove huge amount if your trying to gain some hard drive space, I would NOT delete the Nvidia folder. Your choice.

Ever since updating to the new "Power Management" software, the service LPlatsvc.exe is flagging errors every time I start Windows.  Moreover, the process is constantly attempting to do something because my cursor is CONSTANTLY going between regular cursor arrow to cursor arrow with hourglass... It goes back and forth every second or so and does so.... ALL THE TIME.Ive closed all programs and the only progream still making calls is LPlatsvc.exe.  I dont want to know how to update. I want to know how to delete your crap software off my computer. Windows has a power management system... there is LITERALLY no need for yours. Please test your software before forcing it on all of your customers.  But in any case, please provide a method of removing your software. Thanks!

Hey guys, so I wanted to try out the iMessage client on my computer so that it's easier for me to message others while using the computer as well (you can see it here). Although the author clearly stated that there is no option to uninstall I still download and use the software anyways.

But now I worry about my privacy and stuff like that. How do I uninstall a software that doesn't have a delete option? Thanks
