Thinkpad X301 Battery problem

Q: Thinkpad X301 Battery problem

I seem to find little to nothing on the X301 and when I put in my serial number it gives me a 2777 as that closes match. Everything I find on recalibrating the battery is of no use because it isn't on the machine I have. There is no power manager that allows me to reset the battery. Is there any other way to do this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a Lenovo X301 and I love with all my heart. I've just recently upgraded my SSD and RAM. Read a lot of material about upgrading this model and found some rumors from 2009 that it should support SL9600 and SP9600 CPU's. I've consulted with Intel and they suggested I should contact Lenovo support to clarify whether there is a BIOS support for these CPU's because both SL9600 and SP9600 fit the socket (BGA956). So is there a BIOS that supports these CPU's for X301?I have read some korean forums and some people have successfully upgraded X301 to SP9600, yet it is unclear if they made any software/hardware modifications beforehand to make that possible. This is not a rational but sentimental decision, I know it is not worth the money. SU9600 is an official option, but it is such a minor upgrade I would not bother. Thank you in advance  Offtopic - after I installed Lenovo service bridge on my thinkpad, I am getting an internal server error every time I try to go to lenovo support page. Several people have reported this too, since Nov 30, 2016. Someone should look into that code

Hi everyone! Is there any info regarding the installation of drivers required to use Bluetooth and mobile broadband module on X301 running Windows 10? Unfortunately, couldn't find any working ones. Both Bluetooth and Mobile Internet capabilities seem not to be implemented in the system at all.  Thanks for your replies!  PS; Would the above-mentioned features work on Ubuntu 17?

I have an X301 2777CTR, purchased from the Lenovo Outlet. The computer was spec'ed as having no internal optical drive, and I assumed the cover over the bay where the optical drive or a second battery would go was just that--a cover with no other function except to keep dust out. Also, when I charged the battery, Power Manager reported only one battery present and charging. I ordered a second battery for the empty bay. When the battery arrived and I went to install it, surprise! A second battery was already there. Now, knowing that there really are two batteries in the computer, Power Manager shows "Battery 2:  there is an error."  I can't find any reference for this error message on these forums or in the Lenovo troubleshooting files. How do I get Power Manager to recognize the second battery and report its charge and health state?

A:X301 "Battery 2: there is an error"

It looks as though I have solved my own problem. I set Power Manager to do a battery reset of Battery 1. When it was done (draining and then recharging to 100%), Power Manager showed Battery 2 partially discharged, but in good condition. I am now running a reset on Battery 2. Assuming that results in the remaining battery being calibrated to the computer, I should be in good shape. Thanks for all those that read the message, in any event.

Hello, so I've just got 3rd party main and ultrabay batteries. The main one seems to work fine. The ultrabay battery was not detected at first, but after main battery got charges to 100%, the ultrabay one got detected as well. And just as it charged to 100% (after the 2nd battery detection the lenovo power manager displayed charging from 60% or so), lenovo power manager suddenly started displaying "60%, not charging". I check the details and it shows my ultrabay battery has 0% charge even though couple of seconds ago it was charged fully. Restart did not help and with AC unplugged, my laptop starts using the main battery, probably because it thinks ultrabay one is empty. Any ideas on how to fix this? :/

Hi,
Sorry if someone had answered this question before but I'm new here.
I have an IBM ThinkPad T22 and recently experienced this strange problem: The battery works alright but it doesn't charge even though the LED blinking as if it is being charged and when the system was poweroff and I unplugged the AC adapter then the LED indicating battery was still lit although it was supposed to turn off. To really turn that LED off I had to remove the battery pack. I discharged the battery completely and it's not charged any more
(0% charged) and now I have to use my laptop as if it is a desktop (with power plugged all the time). I would be grateful if you have any suggestion since I believe that the battery is still working pretty well.

Hy!I've used my Thinkpad T420 battery charge mode with custom settings: Start charging when below 95% and Stop charging at 99%. Because the battery effectively has never charged full, it cause sudden capacity decreases (for example from 30% discharging to 7%). I got bored to this and changed to automatically optimize battery lifespan. I noticed that every full charge the "Full charge capacity" value decreases. I have charged it 5 times after this settings, and the remaining capacity looks like this: 57.10Wh, 57.05Wh, 57.00Wh, 56.95Wh, 56.85Wh. Is it normal? Is it possible that this setting will kill my battery?

(P.S. I installed the itunes 64 setup file to set itunes back up again.) The computer said that there were problems with the battery and I should consider getting a new battery. The charging cord is plugged into the computer, and I intend to have the charging cord plugged into the computer overnight. Should I? And what site or store should I go to to get a new battery? Do I need a new charging cord? Or is there is a way to solve it without getting a new charging cord ot battery? Any help would be greatly appeeciated.

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

My T430s has a lens at this position and in the BIOS there is an option to enable/disable a camera. Please tell me whether some production batches of the X301 ship without camera. Just given an old X301 (surprisingly, first time dealing with this model), and was told by the giver that they thought the mobo was bad due to overheating, and the kb and screen didn't work. Well, not sure how tech-savvy they were, so took that with a grain of salt. Turns out it does post, but the LCD lamp (not sure if LED or CCFL) won't light despite graphics being shown on screen (visible at extreme angles). Like they had said, keypresses aren't recognized. Now, these two issues unto themselves need not confirm a bad mobo. Still, considering a usb kb and external monitor work, is it more likely to be the components or mobo?Just wanted some input before sourcing parts or even popping it open (here's hoping for loose ribbon cables!). **bleep** solid feeling machine though. Would be nice to get this in order even without an upgradable CPU option. Type: 2774-W8Q

Hi there, I switched to an Intel X18-M SSD on my X301 some time ago. I noticed that the new BIOS was released with Secure Erase functionality some time ago. As I was going to rebuild my laptop today, I thought I would give it a go. Turns out that this was a mistake. The utility failed on the Intel SSD necessitating a reboot after running for six hours. After the reboot, it turns out that the utility has set a hard drive password on the disk (there was not one before). As I have no way to know what password it has set, I am effectively locked out of my drive and it's a brick to all intents and purposes.Does anyone (Lenovo in particular) know what password is set during the running of the Secure Erase functionality of the latest BIOS? My only alternative is to find out if there is a default master password from Intel. Since in principle, this should be blank, I believe that I am scuppered unless someone in Lenovo can tell me what password they set using the utility. Thanks in advance.

I went out and bought a 128gb 1.8" SSD for the purpose of upgrading my x301 to Win 7. I really wanted to preserve my old XP environment on the stock 64gb.

I did a fresh Win 7 Ultimate install, initially I installed the 64bit version but found my VPN software would not support it so then I wiped and installed 32 bit. I did leave the 100mb partition that the 64bit version created.

Installed Win 7 32bit, installed the lenovo software update program and let it put all of the software on the laptop. Did the win 7 update thing (this all took the better part of a day).

I wresteled the TPM chip and now have it owned by win 7. Had to do the "hit esc" till the red win7 loader, power off, enter bios, clear keys method, but it worked. Now Win 7 says it ownes the tpm.

Trying to turn on Bitlocker doing the "key test" results in the screen on every reboot saying that something has changed. I then turned on bitlocker, let it encrypt drive without doing the test and it completed sucessfully but every reboot asks for the recovery key.

I've tried just about every "fix" I can find for this, including, changing bios boot order to only include hdd, suspending/resuming BL and a host of other things as well, bios updated. Nothing seems to work. I'd really like to use bit locker but not if it is not going to work right.

I did come across a post that involved some policy editing then turning of/on again and have not yet tried that.

A:Lenovo X301 Bitlocker asking for recover key every time..

I believe I found the problem enabling bitlocker on my x301. I tried just about every possible thing I could find on the internet and was unable to get it enabled. Every time on the next boot I would get the message (pre windows), from the bios that the environment had been changed and bitlocker would fail to encrypt the drive. If I encrypted the drive without the bitlocker test it would encrypt but every boot would make me enter the recovery key in order to boot.

Last night I found a post that indicated that bitlocker would make a 300 meg partition (100 for itself, 200 for oem utilities). That got me thinking. Today I decided to shrink my system partition and leave some unpartitioned space on the drive in case it was trying to make this partition. That's when things changed. Suddenly bitlocker started working properly. I still only see the 100 meg windows partition, but maybe there is another hidden partition that it was unable to create because I had given all the space to my system drive. I left 500 megs unpartitioned, enabled bitlocker and it's working fine. For me, problem solved.

Hope this helps someone. One nice thing about Win7 is that it allows you to shrink/expand volumns right from disk management so no playing around with PE boot disks.

I bought a second-hand IBM ThinkPad T30 at the start of January. I bought a new battery for it a while ago, and I've had to get two replacement batteries because of problems. The guy who sold me the computer told me that you shouldn't keep charging the battery after it is already charged - what he means is that when the battery is fully charged you should take the power cord out and run it on the battery. Has anyone heard this before?

Should it be okay to keep running the computer on the mains after the battery is fully charged? Would it be all right to remove the battery?

Again I bought a new battery (extended life this time) and bought a docking station. I am now faced with the new battery drains everytime I use it. The power chord does not charge it. The docking station does not charge it either. I would like some questons answered:

Is it normal for the pc to have to be ON for the battery to be charged?

Does anyone know if there is any indication that the power chord is plugged in while the battery is installed? When on AC only, it shows plug - When battery installed (on battery only or with AC chord) computer shows on battery power.

Do the external battery charger units really work? this may be my only way of recharging my battery if not through the pc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, Just wanted to report a problem I've been having with my Thinkpad Yoga 460 (core i5 6200U, 8 GB RAM - 20EMCTO1WW). After only 3 days of light use and a BIOS update to v1.40, I found that the laptop would only start when connected to the charger. In Windows 10, the battery gauge would show "99%, not charging" permanently. Importantly, the system does not seem to recognize that the charger is connected and thinks it is on battery. If I pull the charger, the laptop dies instantly. Also when I plug it back in, the charge indicator light flashes orange a couple of times for ca. half a second and then stays off, even when the laptop is on. First I suspected a software fault, and tried a lot of different permutations of uninstalling, re-installing and disabling the battery driver in the system manager, as well as the different Lenovo-branded system programs. The Lenovo Solutions app does always seem to display the same information about the battery, importantly with the charge cycle counter unchanged. None of it seemed to help. Growing desperate, I tried a different power supply (no difference). I also unscrewed the back plate and unhooked the battery cable. While then the system did not recognize the battery anymore, everything was back to the old, unrecognized state after it was hooked back in. I tried resetting the battery as recommended in this thread, but to no avail. I tried to downgrade to the BIOS version 1.18 (the one the laptop had bee... Read more

I am looking to replace the internal battery for a Thinkpad X1 laptop.  the Model number is 1294AY2.    This is an older model with the internal battery.   The current battery appears to be a 4 cell, and I can find replacements online.  I thought I read an early review that mention an extended life 6 cell for the internal battery.  Is this an availbale part number? The installation process for the internal battery seems a little more involved.  Is there a recommendation on how to best do this without any permanent damage.  Is there an official repair manual that is available to the pulic? Since this unit is out of warranty, I assume that it is not a option available by sending the unit to Lenovo for service. I am curently getting about 3.5 hours battery life now, and the system reports 30,740mWh, compared to 38,920 rated capacity.  Can I assume that the battery has degraded by roughly 25% by comparing the 2 number, or is it a more involved calculation? Ideally I get 5-6 hours of life, and I am considering adding a "battery slice" instead of changing the internal battery. BATTERY 1NAME42T4977MANUFACTURERSMPSERIAL NUMBER472CHEMISTRYLiPDESIGN CAPACITY38,920 mWhFULL CHARGE CAPACITY30,740 mWhCYCLE COUNT-

A:Thinkpad X1 battery change

when doing any changes inside laptop allways use disconnect battery method in bios first so it fully disconnects it then replace battery and connect a charger and try with new one this might be why new one isnt charging due to your not disconnecting old one propertly.

Can anyone help me? Please. I've been having a hard time with my laptop, yesterday it works perfectly just fine. And then I tried charging it, it's not charging until the battery completely drains. So now it won't turn on, everytime I plug in the charger the power button just keeps blinking yellow light. I've tried removing the battery and pressing the power button for 30 secs then reapplying the battery back and the charger back but still nothing's happening. Please help me. My email is: [email protected] you're response would really means a lot!

The battery light is blinking orange. It works on ac power. The power manager says that the battery needs to be charged for 10 hours or more because it was fully discharged. It also says the battery is brand new. I tried charging it for 48 hours and it still didn't work. I don't want to buy a new battery if possible. I got the computer used so I don't know how much the battery was used.

Hi,I am new on the forum. Sorry for my bad English, I am French. By now i am in India for some times. My Lenovo Thinkpad X201 (on W7) is telling me that I will soon have to change the battery. Yesterday I went to a shop a little far from my ashram. The manager (looks professionnal) took photos of my battery, sent it to another man whose arrival was expected in ten minutes. 30mn after I gave my phone number to the manager. 21 hours later no news. So I search another option. On my battery (47+) it is written - ...Replace with same type only... - (and among other informations 42T4835 / 42T4834 (Part number?)). On this forum and I discoverd there are three categories of batteries for this notebook: 4 cell, 6 cell and 9 cell.I am lost: when I search on the shop (http://shop.lenovo.com/tn/fr/itemdetails/43R9254/460/D65CF46CB0DB412FA2E56C552E0D8A38#learnMore) I find another Part number: 43R9254)I ask you two questions:1. Can I replace with a different Lenovo battery?2. If you have answered "yes" which ones? Thanks for your answers.Jacques

Usually in Paris. By know in India till mid May.

A:Thinkpad X201 Which Battery I can use?

There are lots of part numbers.  Anything from an x200 or x201 notebook will work.  (Not a tablet)  They will be marked 47+ or 47++.  4,6 and 9-cell are ok.  I tell people to avoid aftermarket (non-Lenovo batteries)

I've ordered a P70, it will be up to 3 weeks until it arrives.  In the maentime I'm working on designing a portable power pack for for using the P70 at remote sites (up to 6-8 hours cont. use) using a sealed lead acid battery and an inverter.  I may also run 2-3 laptops from this battery as well but they will be lower spec laptops.  I'm trying to figure out the power requirements for the laptop (P70), to judge what size battery I will need I am initally thinking an 80Ah battery, which is pretty heavy, I may be able to geet away with a smaller battery. I see that the battery that comes with the P70 is a 96Wh battery but the specs don't say what the battery voltage is.  Can someone with a P70 battery let me know?  Also what is the output voltage of the AC adapter? Thanks

My P70 Power brick contains very little English -- but does clearly state "230 Watts, 20 Volts." When I power down today, I'll examine the battery label and report back to you as well. Hope this helps.

I have a BRAND NEW ThinkPad P71.  The A/C adaptor is plugged into the laptop and the green light next to it is illuminated.  On the screen in the lower right hand there is the Lenovo Vantage battery icon showing the percentage of power level in the battery.  There is also the system battery icon in all white showing the same power level when you hover over it.  BOTH icons display, "plugged in, not charging" and I have confirmed the outlet my laptop is plugged into is working properly to supply power.  When I unplug the A/C adaptor and the battery power percentage reduces and after plugging the A/C adaptor back into laptop the battery power percentage does not increase. I have also done what Lenovo recommends which is to unplug the adaptor, remove the battery, and re-engage BUT nothing has changed.  For some reason the battery is simply not re-charging.  Anyone else have this problem OR does anyone know another solution?

Win7 or Win10?  Probably the latter.

Is the latest Power Management Driver (for 7/10) installed?  Power Manager (for 7) installed?

Barring a defective battery or some other hardware issue with your P71 (and worst case, it's under warranty so you can call Lenovo to open a ticket and get a technician to come out and solve your problem with appropriate parts replacements, whatever it might be), it might be that the software is simply deciding not to "charge" because of a battery plan agenda or Registry values set so that no charging is occurring (under software control) even though you've now tried to drain it a bit so that it really should have reached its lower-threshold to reactivate charging.

I recently learned of a Registry hack to set the low/high limits in Win10 to match the customizable values for the Lenovo Win7 Power Manager (which does not exist in Win10).  After installing this REG file Win10 battery charging behavior will work like it does in Win7 with Power Manager, meaning there is your own low threshold value above which no charging occurs but below which charging once again kicks in.  And then charging continues until the upper threshold is reached at which charging stops (thus avoiding charging all the way up to 100%, but stopping below it... say at 96%).  Curiously, Win10 seems to reset the primary parameter values of the REG file whenever a Windows Update is applied (e.g. overnight) or on other unknown circumstanc... Hello, I bought a Yoga 260 about 3 month ago (i5-6300, 16gb ram, Windows 10 64 bit);I'm happy with the overall performance, but I'm far from working the announced 7 hours of work on the battery. 3 to 4 would be more representative of may experience, even in "eco" mode.Any idea how I could further check if someting's wrong, draining my battery ? Or would it be possible to extend the battery, or find a bigger capacity that would suit the machine, even at some cost (price, of course, but weight, or "foldability") ?Thanks for your advice.
