Help with access server plan

Q: Help with access server plan

I am currently hosting an Access Database on an External server to my company for geographical considerations. I would like to evaluate what it would take to host it internally. We are a very small office that have 4 PCs with 2 Printers shared through a windows Homegroup but personel at other office locations need to access the DB and they are not on the homegroup. I am not averse to setting up a server however I am not sure what would be the best way to proceed. Also I have no server experience to speak of. I have Mostly a Desktop support background. I could use some advice or point me to a resource.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok, so i just got a new labtop with vista and everything was working great. Im not sure what i did, but i can't modify my power settings. When i try to change my power plan settings it says that my power plan info isnt available. I then go to the FAQ part and it says
"If your computer is part of a network at an organization—such as a school, government agency, or business—your organization's system administrator might have made certain settings unavailable or even removed them by using Group Policy. Group Policy is a feature of Windows that lets system administrators manage users' access to Windows features.
If you think that Group Policy is preventing you from changing a setting that you need to access, contact your system administrator."

I have NO idea what this means.. this is my personal computer and is not part of any newtworks. I then tried to change my account type to "standard user" so i could fix the problem, but my computer won't let me. I even created a new user account and made that one a standard user but it didn't fix the probelm. How do i gain access to my power plan so i can modify it???

If anyone at all needs more info to solve the problem just ask and i'll do my best to help you.

Please don't run away because this appears long. I'm just providing as much background info as possible to pre-answer any questions someone might have. I've been through so much stuff in this forum and on the internet that I'm now thoroughly confused. I've been trying to figure this out for several months now and it's driving me crazy. Here's what is going on and what I need to do.

I need to replace my O/S HDD. I have a new larger HDD to install. I need software that will do the following:
Move at least two of the three partitions to the new drive. The third partition is a recovery partition put there by Gateway. I have a CD that will do the same thing so I don't think it's needed, especially if I don't want to ever use it.Create full backups of two computersPerform automated differential backupsRun the backups while windows is runningI'd prefer that it also let me restore a single or several files from the backup file, but it's not a requirement.Must be free. If I have to buy it, then I'll have to buy one for each computer and I can't afford that right now.

In my computer, my current HDD is 500GB and I'm replacing it with a 1.5TB HDD. My girlfriend has a much smaller HDD that has started whistling, so I need to backup her drive ASAP and replace it. I have an external 2TB drive that I've shared on my network. I want to install the software on each computer to back up to the external drive. After the backups, I need to replace the drives and restore the O/Ss to their respect... Read more

I used Acronis to take my laptops platter drive and put it on my new ssd. Infact you can do all the drives on your system and put them back as they were.

It was fairly easy and quick.

I believe "Hardware" doesn't include hard drives.

In the "free" or "trial" versions they limit what you can do... obviously. With Acronis I could use it for 30 days, and pretty much only create my back image and a limited use usb boot stick.
I did buy it eventtually, and the paid version allows me to create automated backup in 4 ways plus more

On Windows7 Pro,  trying to run IIS.  The way I am used to execute is  on the browser "localhost".  I used to have the code in the directory  C:\inetpub\wwwroot.   Even before I copy,  I am hoping to see

Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.

Can someone help me to address this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance.

I have a recent DELL laptop:
Inspiron 7000 (Inspiron 17 7778 2-in-1),
Core i7, 16 Gb RAM, 128 GB SSD + 1TB HD...
Not a lot of programs and lots of space available.
In the last few months I have had a lot of poor performance issues. I finally figured out it is related to Windows 10 Power Plan. When set to "Power Saver", the performance is awful. The CPU is maxed to 0.80 GHz. So when browsing the net or looking at my picture gallery, the computer hangs, and it becomes impossible to use. If I change the plan to high performance, the computer behaves normally - fast!
And even if I change the plan to another plan (i.e. High Perf), the next time I restart or wake-up the computer, the "Power Saver" power plan is set back... Very frustrating. And as shows the image, it is not the "bolded" option in the list. What can be changing constantly that parameter??
I contacted DELL chat support and they asked me to re-install Windows! There is probably a better way to fix this. It looks to me as a DELL Driver conflicting with Windows. Also, my mother has an older DELL laptop on Windows 10 and she experiences the same issue...
Any help would be very appreciated!

I have a Access 2000 database residing on one sever and an installation of SQL Server 2008 residing on another. Both servers are running Windows Server 2003. I created a linked server using the code below. When I run EXEC sp_tables_ex 'PropCont' I get the following,

Hi there
Why does Windows Networking always seem to hose things up ( Linux works EVERY time)

I have two computers on the SAME test private LAN one Whitehorse (W2003 server) and the other Blackdog (W8 Enterprise) both enabled "Shareable and Visible".

View from W2003 -- can see and access disks C,D, and F on W8 Computer

View from W8 - Networking shows the computer Whitehorse (W2003 server) but can't access any disks etc (or even its printer). PING even fails but W8 obviously knows it's on the Network because its found it. The stupid Windows diagnostics when you click Diagnose doesn't help at all --in fact I've NEVER found the network diagnostic panel of the slightest bit of help ever.

I've switched off firewalls etc while testing so there's no security rubbish to take care of while I'm trying to get this to work. LAN is purely LOCAL -- no computer is on "the other side" of a router.

Both machines can access independently the Internet through a Local router and connections are via LAN cable so nothing should be simpler. !! But can I get this to work !!.

I had a similar problem with W7 but it seemed to "Disappear" without me actually doing anything -- the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" I expect.

A:W2K3 Server can access W8 W8 computer cant see W2K server

Assuming this Windows 8 Enterprise machine isn't locked down with Group Policy.

This type of problem usually requires that you change the lanman server parameters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 8 machines that needs to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

There are two separate settings for disabling the 128 bit encryption.

Hello there,

I'm struggling with networking problems.
I have server 2003 that acts as print server, file server and VPN server.

But after some configuring for the VPN adapter (separate adapter) I can't connect to \\server (that's server real name) anymore.
BUT I can connect with it over IP (, static IP)

So I thought that the VPN adapter is conflicting with some settings and disabled it, and it didn't help.

Server is behind router and I have static IP. Router seems to be configured correctly.
I can ping the server.

What's the problem?

May it be netBIOS problem?

My husband and I have several email addresses for our business that were created and hosted by another party using cPanel. Unfortunately we are late in paying our bill and our emails addresses have been shut down. Is there any way to redirect them? Any other advice? We did have access to the cPanel account but looks that was access was changed too. (see attached) If I am able to obtain access again, can I transfer the email addresses somehow?

A:Can I Access Emails If My Server Access Has Been Shut Down?

what was the last part after the @ of the email
why not just pay the bill ?
if ita a domain youu own , then you can transfer to a new provider and they can also host your email - but there will be a hosting / email server charge for you on another host.

Assuming this is all via a domain name, what is your domain name ?
when does the domain name expire?

Who are you hosting with now - is it very expensive?
What country are you in

You will NOT be able to transfer the email address and all the OLD emails , just the email address may be transfered - the emails will stay on the current hosting server , and if you leave it to long , which you may have already done, they will delete all the emails anyway

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to Access file server on Windows Server 2000

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

Recenty purchased 2 new PC's with windows 8.
Setup workgroup, connected to server via work group. Saved credentials to system. Was able to access files first day.

Day two: try to access server and Win 8 prompts for username and password. I input UN and PW and system tells me its wrong. Even though I know its right.

I have tired many things with firewall and outbound security on WIN 8 machine, but it will not connect to win2k server via workgroup as it denies password.

Anyone know how to fix/resolve this issue (hating windows 8 right now)

We are running Windows 2000 Server. On the server is a Q: drive called 'Public'. 'Public''s permission is set to 'Everyone' with full-control. The employees and I can access the Public folder through My Network Places (most people have Win XP Pro) or through the run command, \\server\public.

Here's the problem. One person does not have access. She always did have access to the Public folder, but not anymore. I can access my PC (which is \\networkid) through her PC (\\popc). However, I cannot access \\server through \\popc. What is the problem? How come mine cannot see hers, but she can see mine? Me and everyone else can see the server, but not her.

Through her PC (\\popc), I type 'ping networkid' and I get replies. However, I type 'ping server' but there is no reply.

Any suggestions? I would love to get out of this funk!

Well, this has been an ongoing problem for a while, and RoadRunner support says "We don't block anything here at RoadRunner", so...here's my problem:

I can't access my server, http://darkangels-rs.com. Only very seldomly can I access the front page, with just the text, no background image and no little person icon that should be there. If I refresh, I get a timeout error. Most of the time, I get a timeout error.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, the site does not load on IE7 or FF2, and I'm using RoadRunner/Time Warner Cable as my ISP (obviously.) I've checked all my trusted sites, restricted sites (unless the IP of the site is blocked, in which case I don't know it, I think it's like 216.something.something.something) and even turned off my firewalls, checked their settings, scanned for adware, spyware, viruses, and the like, reset my modem, repaired my connection, AND turned off google web accelerator, in case they were blocking it, and no dice. Anybody got any ideas?

I hope this is in the correct forum, so here goes. We have opened an ofiice in an old blg, and when we called ATT they said we could get a dsl line! well they made a mistake, so we explored a t1 line to much money. ok the people we rent from have a server, so someone suggested we do a wireless bridge. We are not directly in thair line of sight so is there a way to connect to a server wirelessly from building to building if the connecting bldg is 150 yrds away. Thanks any help would be appreciated or a site for help. There will only be two maybe three computers in use lap tops with docking stations or just lap tops.

oh forgot , we are using att sticks now , but slow and cumbersome also we are not the same company so w its two differant servers. Thanks again.

A:Server access

On the server, install a MIMO router which will have higher radio output.
Mount the router (at the server) near a window that faces your building and
set the SSID to something you and the owner agree upon.

Take a laptop with a WiFi adapter and stand outside your building and verify you can
get a good signal and connect.

Once that works, you get a Wireless Bridge (usually an Access Point configured as a bridge),
like this.

Once it all works (ie your systems have internet access), the MIMO router should have encryption enabled and your Bridge will need the key to connect.

Okay, I'm stumped

I am trying to access a webserver from a PC and the browser tells me the server is down. Tried pinging it and I get a timed out response. nslookup fails to find the server. tried turning the firewall off, tried checking the content setting in the internet options, tried explorer and firefox. all with no luck. The user can email people at the site without any problems. The workstation can access pretty much any other server

I know the server I am trying to access is up and running because if I go down the street to another computer, I can browse the site and ping the address with no problems. Not only that, the site has around 500 subscribers and no-one else hase any problems.

There is something weird going on here. Any thoughts would be good. I am running Spybot on the workstation at the moment but have no real hope that it will turn up anything.

Workstation is a pentium 4 running Windows XP from a small office using a Seimens Speedstream modem.

A:I can't access my Web server from my pc?

Hi and welcome to the forums, your log which you have submitted here is now in the process of being analyzed, some logs take longer than others depending on the type of infection. As I am currently at undergrad status all my post are verified before final posting so this may also cause a short delay in the final post. Please be patient and I will get back to you as soon as I can

While you are wating for your reply please note...

Do not try and fix any entries that you see yourself (even if they do seem very obvious) If you do so the fix may not work as it should, leaving you open to possible immediate re-infection.

Do not disable your system restore - an infected/corrupted system restore is better than none at all, if anything should go wrong during the fix and restore is turned off then you could well be looking at a full system format

Please do not post in other forums while you are being helped here This is so the HJT helpers at other forums can get on with helping other users that are in need of attention.

If you are at anytime in doubt, or unsure of anything then please ask ! Dont be frightened - we wont bite....

Many Thanks - Dorian - AkA Steve

I have a server at home on U-verse and would like to connect to it at work over VPN. So I setup VPN and I *think* that part works ok. I just can't seem to access the server by name or IP.

At home, I have a AT&T U-verse (2-Wire RG), which assigns the IP to my Windows Vista server. I've setup a VPN on the server and it assigns addresses from to

At my work, I'm connected to the network over their wireless network. When I dial in to the server, it connects just fine. However if I either try and ping or access the server by name (EARTH), it will not find it.

My ipconfig is below:

PPP adapter Home:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.2wire.net

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : us.xxxx.com
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : xxxx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:bbb1%10
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.x.xx
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :

Why can't it see my home server?

Hi, all,

I'm new to VPN server setup. I just setup a VPN server on my home pc w/ XP pro, and a VPN client connection on my laptop w/ WIN7. I'd tried to connected the vpn server and it connected successfully. However, I wonder how i can access my server (or my files on it) when Im away from home? I kinda know it is something about web browse access. But I have no clue how to access it. Can anyone help? Thank you very much.

A:How to Access Files on the VPN Server

If you have the VPN server behind a firewall, you will have to do some port forward rules (depending on the VPN protocol you are using) to allow devices on the internet to reach the VPN server. You should also use a dynamic DNS type service so it'll be easier to reach your home network.

Finally, keep in mind, you are exposing your Windows box to the internet via the ports you've opened.

Hi All, I had the same error (Access Denied on this server) on several websites. Tried all the solutions offered here, to no avail.

Finally discovered that our fixed IP that we just got (new office, new ISP), had been blacklisted on all the big blacklisting services. So a quick call to our ISP and a new fixed IP and I'm able to access all sites again. FYI, the two sites we knew about that couldn't be accessed were www.expedia.com and www.dhl.com and www.dhl.cz.

So if you find yourself in a similar spot, I hope this info helps!

A:Access Denied on this server

Just make sure all of your computers have been tested for viruses or you may find yourself blacklisted again.

I'm trying to get an NT Server on the domain. For some reason it is showing up as a Work Group and I need it on the domain. Actually, maybe it doesn't matter but I can't access it from other computers on the network. How do you fix a server so it can be accessed from other computers on the network???

A:NT Server access on domain

I dont know if you have done this but, enter the server's machine name in Server Manger on the Primary Domain Controller. At the new server go to Start>Setting>Control Panel>Network>Identification>Change
enter the server Computer Name, click Member of Domain and enter the Domain name, click OK. After the machine restarts you may need to click on the pull down box to select the Domain you are logging on to. It usually defaults to the local machine name on first login.

ok so heres the deal, i have an FTP server setup using FIlezilla Server , it is only accessible from my home network using my computer's internal network (LAN) IP address (192.168.xxx.xxx)...i used Dyndns.com to make a domain for my WAN IP address...now when i open this domain address as HTTP , it opens up my router config page!!!! y does that happen???? and if i do it like FTP://domain.blabla.com it asks for a username and password, when i put the login for FTP user account, nothing happens....and the Server client interface does not show whether any attempt was made to connect to the server..

P.S : I HAVE FORWARDED PORT 21 TO MY PC (i.e the pc which hosts the server)

A:External Access To FTP Server

FTP needs two ports; 20 and 21; forward both to the lan address of the FTP server.

As for external access to your router; O U C H !
you should never forward port 80 into your system(s) Unless you also have a webserver active. Also be sure you have changed the router admin password.

I have a Desktop with XP, Laptop with Vista.

Both are on the same workgroup & IP subnet and I have installed the LLTP patch for XP. Both have the exact same firewall, the network has been "trusted" and each computer is trusted by MAC address.

On the desktop, I can't see "Laptop" in "Workgroup Computers", but when I try \\laptop, it opens and I can see all the shares.

On the laptop I can see "Desktop" in the "Network View" but if I try to click it, or use \\desktop I get a message saying it is inaccessible. Then if I go to a specific share "\\desktop\share1", I can get to it fine.

I'd prefer to be able to get directly to \\desktop and be able to brosw the shares instead of having to remember specific paths. Anything else I can try?

A:Can't Access My Web Server All Of A Sudden

Hello Disturbed 1 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. There are a couple of housekeeping items we can clean up so let's do that while you are here.ImportantYour copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. If it is run from inside a compressed file then the backups are not created at all. Please open My ComputerDouble-click on Local Disk (C:)Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder (do not run HijackThis directly out of the sfx or compressed file). Now start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.Other than that the log looks good. I do not see any anti-virus or firewall installed and would highly recommend that you at least get those on this system. Here are some free v... Read more

I'm trying to setup a VPN server. Here are a couple of questions I have. What is the diferences between VPN and using Windows Remote Desktop Connection? Do I setup the VPN server on a domain controller or can it be done on a separate windows 2003 server? Do I need to setup a VPN if my network has no hardware firewall protection? Another words, I can ping the domain controller server from anywhere. The domain controller has a public static IP address. What are some of the concerns having VPN?

Any help in answering these is very grateful!

I am attending a University that uses the Cisco Clean Access Agent to authenticate and check students computers for possible viruses and other problems. I have set up a netgear wireless router and now the computers using the router are incapable of accessing the cleanaccess server but the university network is demanding that they log in to the server. Is this a router problem, a university problem or what?

A:Clean Access Server

Welcome, photographer.

It sounds to me like it's your problem.

If you can find such a person, discuss this with somebody who understands the server's needs and how a router works.

I can understand their server not being able to access your computers hiding behind the router's firewall, but your computers' inability to access the server is beyond me. Unless the login process is tied in with the server trying to access the computer doing the login.

I suggest that you disable the router's firewall, and see if this makes a difference. If this permits the login/access then you may be able to still use the firewall by opening whatever port(s) the server requires.

If disabling the firewall doesn't work, the problem may be IP based. The IP address that the server would be seeing is whatever the network assigned, which is the router's WAN or Internet address; and your computers have addresses like 192.168.n.x. Don't know how to get around this, which leads back to my main suggestion--find somebody who understands both ends. Good luck, and let us know how this progresses. This is a new situation for me, and I'm here to learn.

I realize that there's probably a million different threads with a similar issue, but none of them have thus far been helpful. I'm running a personal media server/web server. It's completely accessible from inside my network. It is also accessible outside of my network, but within my university network. As in, I can access it, SSH into it, play movies from it, etc, as long as I am on campus somewhere.

The catch is, I can't access it if I am off campus. All of my ports are forwarded, what I believe to be, correctly. As long as my computer has an IP that is managed by campus, it works. Anything else does not. As always, our campus help desk is less than helpful. However, they claim to not be blocking any ports.

My setup is through a DD-WRT v34-sp2 mini, to an apache2 server, simply put. I'm out of ideas. When I do a port scan, like from Shields-Up! it says all ports are closed. However, they are open on my router, and should appear open to a scan, I would think.

I'm running Q3:A with the point release 1.31 (1.32 froze Q after the first time I played) and no matter what I do, cannot use the Internet to mass-murder. My buddy and I are attempting to direct connect via IP addies (retreived using the little readout at http://www.network-tools.com), but still to no avail. Has anyone else come across this problem? Something else to add is that, using the IPs from the address above, I can't even ping him, or vice versa. I've collected the basic stats about our computers; Let me know if you need more.
- XP Home
- DSL (routered)
- Q3A v1.32 (I've noticed this, and I am going to have him downgrade for the time being, but when we both had 1.32, it still didn't work)

- WinME
- 1 Way DPC satellite
- P2P networked on a home LAN
- Q3A 1.31

I have a server sitting here with an Act database that must be preserved.
At the moment, no one seems to know the password (Server 2003), so I want to be sure I copy the relevant files.
I suspect I want the .pad file. which I have.
What else do I need to be sure I have everything needed to transfer the proper info to the local machine running Act?
I've copied everything in Program Files and App Data.

A:Act Backup-No access to server

The PAD file is about the only file you don't need as it's re-built when you move the database, anyway.

You can't copy the Program, so copying anything in Program Files and App Data won't help either.

Have a look at: http://blog.glcomputing.com.au/2009/09/automating-backups-for-act-by-sage.html
