Dell Latitude e5470 has no CD Rom drive, but received Windows 10 CD with. How do I install?

Q: Dell Latitude e5470 has no CD Rom drive, but received Windows 10 CD with. How do I install?

Hi
I recently bought a new Dell Latitude e5470. It is running Windows 7 Pro, but I received Windows 10 on a CD with the laptop. The laptop doesn't have a CD-Rom drive, so I obviously can't install it using the CD.
On the CD it says "Already installed on your computer", but I don't understand what it means.
How can I install or activate Windows 10 on my laptop?

Preferred Solution: Dell Latitude e5470 has no CD Rom drive, but received Windows 10 CD with. How do I install?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello All,
I have a Latitude E5470 on Win 7 x64 that I am not able to use the soft key toggle switch (FN + Prtscr) to turn on or off the wireless connection. This functionality works perfectly in the Win10 laptop, however seems that the driver does not allow or is not functional in the Win7 environment. (In Win10 the airplane mode appears when I toggle the option.)
Have anyone experience this issue or knows of a workaround to resolve this in Win7 ?

Thanks in advance. - Ron

Hello Everyone!I bought an open box Dell Latitude E5470 today at a very cheap price. Unfortunately this laptop had a non backlit keyboard and a TN (1600 x 900) panel but it had the much needed 6300HQ, so I went ahead and bought it thinking that I can always buy a backlit keyboard later from aliexpress. I looked at aliexpress again today and noticed something I had overlooked before purchasing the laptop and that is that all backlit keyboards available for E5470 have a different shape thanks to the two stupid top mouse buttons that are not present in my variant of E5470. I now have to find a new top panel with frame that has the cutout for those two extra mouse buttons. This is a nasty situation for me as I am not even sure if the required top panel will be compatible with my variant of E5470. Any advise on what I should do?

I decided to update my drivers and BIOS this morning. My laptop encountered an error during BIOS update and I was stuck in Automatic Repair.

1. I tried restarting the laptop several times.
2. I tried system restore which worked after my second try. The problem is Windows applications like Calendar, Mail, Cortana are not working. It doesn't run and the application is grayed out.
3. So I tried resetting Windows, remove everything which was not successful. Problem got worse, I got stuck on the Dell logo.
4. I ran Diagnostic. No hardware issue found.
5. I tried booting from my bootable USB which contains Windows OS. But my laptop is unable to detect it in BIOS.
5. I read some forums and learned about Legacy vs UEFI and Secure Boot. I disabled the Secure Boot and enabled Legacy ROMS. My laptop was able to boot from the USB and I was able to reinstall Windows 10.

Now, the problem is I want to change it back to UEFI with Secured Boot.
From what I gather, I should do the following:
1. Download Windows OS
2. Make a bootable USB in UEFI mode and GTP partition
3. Change laptop to UEFI mode while Secure Boot is disabled.
4. Re install Windows 10

Am I going in the right direction? Please help me.

Fingerprint recognition on this laptop is really difficult to use. My old Vostro works quickly and easily, but it has never worked well on this machine.
I have to hold my finger down and press hard, sometimes it doesn't work at all.
I've tried deleting then reinstalling & updating the driver, which has no error message. Tried hardware scan also.
Is this a common problem with the E5470. With this type of fingerprint reader. Or is the hardware just faulty and in need of repair?
I also find that the headphone socket doesn't work sometimes, it doesn't recognise when a headphone is plugged in, and volume continues from the speakers.

Any help appreciated.

Hi
Just received my new e5470 with 4GB RAM, I wanted to upgrade to 16GB (2x8GB) which I have from my previous laptop. I found only one slot underneath, the usual place for the 2nd slot next to it does not have the slot set up and it is blank. I have also removed and checked under the keyboard but it was not there either.
The BOIS setup stated that I have two slots, one is 8GB which is I know I have (I changed the 4GB which came originally with one of the two 8GB that I have) and the other is "not slotted" which I am unable to locate.
Does anyone know where is the other slot located?
Thank you

I downloaded Windows 8.1 from MSDN. When I tried to run the setup from Windows, it said the OEM key is not supported with Windows 8.1. I surely can use a retail key from the MSDN account but that is my office account, and I should be able to use the key that I paid for anyways.

Is there any work around?

For example, on the desktop PC, when I edited the ISO file to bypass setup from asking for the key, I could simply activate using my original Windows 8 key after the installation was completed. I don't want to see anything weird happen to my existing recovery functionality and stuff so i was thinking about updating Windows to 8.1 instead of clean install.

Any ideas?

Windows 8.1 Preview requires a generic key for the ISO to install correctly. The generic key is:

Windows 8.1 RTM requires a specific key, I believe.

I would run a memory tester
http://www.memtest.org/

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image (not data), boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory. If you get errors with this test you have a bad memory module, if you have more than one memory module installed remove all but one and re-run the test, test each module individually until you find the bad one.

You'll need to build yourself a new Windows 7 install media set - this is a Skylake system, which doesn't have native support for the Windows 7 installer.  You'll find the complete instructions below.
Also note that this is the very last system on which you'll be able to install WIndows 7 at all - the current and all future generations of Intel CPUs starting with Kaby Lake are Windows 10 only - so you'll soon face a choice between buying older hardware for Windows 7 or new hardware with Windows 10.
The following procedure is tedious but is necessary to build a Windows 7 installer that will work with your Skylake system.

I am trying to upgrade my work hard drive (80 GB) because I was running out of space to a Samsung SSD drive (256 GB). I created a system image and a system restore disk in preparation using windows tools. Then I swapped the drives tying to get the SSD to be the primary. No luck. Then I swapped back the old drive (my failsafe) but it failed to boot as well, suspect MBR was damaged. So I reimaged old drive to a personal windows 7 image. but that didn't help, though it proved the drive was usable.
I now have copied the system image data onto the old drive from the SSD drive using the command prompt in the system restore session. So I have a system image on both the new and old drives.
I have the old drive connected with cables to the USB port. The SSD is installed in the laptop. I am trying to use the system restore disk to restore the backup image on the USB drive (old hard disk) to the SSD drive. I keep getting an error with multiple potential issues:
1. A probable system disk may have been excluded by mistake (I don't think so)
2. A USB disk may have been assigned as a system disk (seems possible, but their solution doesn't work)
3. An invalid disk may have been assigned as a system disk (seems possible, but their solution doesn't work)

Next step I want to try is to move the data to a network drive to see if that works but I am not optimistic.

A:Moving to SSD drive on Dell Latitude windows 64 bit

ok, so it appears that I could simply now restore from C: to C: now that I have a system restore copy on the SB drive, which would not allow me to execute before.

Cool!

Got a Dell Latitude D-400 here that someones bought off ebay very cheap. BSOD leaving to infinite reboot. Thought best thing to do would be to reinstall windows but alas no CD drive!

Here's what I've tried
- working external CD drive with Windows CD in: Very limited BIOS options but by setting it to boot from Harddrive last it still doesn't boot from CD
- Boot from Ubuntu Pendrive: Can boot fine, only thing is that the wifi doesn't work, considering just installing ubuntu and getting round the wifi problem
- BartPE: Spent literally hours last night trying to follow the guides for making a bootable Windows install pendrive. Quite the opposite of the ease of Ubuntu! One or two places I may have gone wrong but its taken so much of my time already trying this...

Other things I was thinking of trying and was wondering if anyone can give me any advice
- Connect the harddrive to a PC or a laptop with a CD drive and start the install off on that? Maybe reconnect the HDD to the laptop once it restarts after copying the files from the CD? (the first stage of the windows install process) as nothing specific like drivers will have been setup? (just guessing)
- Network install: I've read briefly on this. I think I have to boot from a pendrive then connect to a computer on the network with the XP CD in its drive. How easy is this? Is it more effort than making an Ubuntu pendrive?

much thanks,
Dan gent

Hi everyone,

I'm struggling with 2 Dell Latitude 3440 notebook PC's that I'm trying to install Windows 10 Pro on. One of which has been running Windows 7 flawlessly for 2 years, the other one is brand new out of the box, never been opened. As always when doing a reinstall of an OS or even a fresh install on a newly delivered computer, I test the RAM and HD. RAM is tested with Memtest 86+ (what else?) and for the HD's, I have a few different sector checking utilities I use on them. All tests passed on both machines, as I expected.

So, I start the install. I'm using a fresh copy of Windows 10 64-Bit. After zeroing the hard drive in each machine, I start the install. Installation goes smoothly. I then download the drivers (all from Dell's website, for the Latitude 3440, for Windows 10 64-Bit) and install (not necessarily in this order):
?Intel Chipset Driver
?Intel Management Engine Interface Driver
?Trackpad Driver
?Audio Driver (via Device Manager)
?Ethernet and WiFi Drivers (via Device Manager)
?SD Card Reader Driver
?Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
?Video Driver

On one machine, the person needed it back (this was the one I had wiped Windows 7 on and done a fresh install to Windows 10 Pro), so I installed my usual set of applications and then gave it to her.

On the second machine, I was done with it for the night and didn't start the software load because it was getting late, so I shut it down and started it up again, and somewhere in here, I can't remember ... Read more

Hi ,
I am having problems installing our corporate version of Windows 7 Enterprise.
I have four new E5470 Laptops, all without an internal CD/DVD drive installed.
When loading Windows 7 Enterprise from either an external USB connected CD/DVD Rom drive, or from a USB 3 stick, the installation commences as far as letting you change the language set from US to UK English but then bombs out after this.
It comes back with the error "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains drivers and then click ok".
I have downloaded and installed all the drivers from the Dell web site for this model laptop onto the installation USB 3 stick but it still does not see and let you select them. Or if you plug in another separate USB stick or if you burn the drivers to CD and change the disk in the external drive unit.
It seems to be because these 'drivers' or whatever files are required, need to be slip streamed into the installation routine.
I have four of these laptops in total, all brand new, and the fault happens on each.
Windows driver problem?

A:Latitude E5470 - Win 7 Installation - No Drivers

If I understand your situation properly, we're in the same boat. Basically I received a laptop with the 7 pro install on it directly from Dell and wanted to install 7 enterprise by using a bootable USB.
Due to the age of the win7 ent installer, a lot of new dell systems are coming with usb hubs which can't properly read an external drive without the USB3 driver being manually installed during the process. Since the problem is that it can't read the USB, you can't put the drivers on the USB. My solution was to put them onto a partition on the internal drive and install them from there. Once that was done (and the installation media was in the USB on the right side, as the back would still not recognize it?), I hit the rescan and the OS installation went forward without issue.
If you want to actually solve your problem to avoid this in the future, you could potentially import the USB drivers into the bootable .wim through use of the DISM tool, but my first attempt resulted in a frozen installer so I didn't bother. I have had the same issue with a few new Optiplex towers, so it might be worth it in the future.

I just got 2 monitors and would like to attach them to my laptop. However I have a company laptop and I do not want to get into trouble for plugging in unauthorized hardware. The monitors are very similar to the ones I use at work. If I plug them in will they send out a "red flag"? I know that if I was to plug in a memory stick via USB that would flag. Any advice would be helpful, thank you.

hi
we have the dell Latitude E5470, new, and its very unresponsive
Checked for malware / Antiviru, none found.
ran dell update, all updates installed.
windows updates installed also.
but for a new machine I5, 4GB ram, the "spinning whell" of microsoft is seen a lot, a lot of "Not responding" errors too.
what else should i check,? even turning off visual effects its still handling like a brick....

A:Latitude E5470 running very slow

The Dell diagnostics may reveal something - F12 at powerup.  Also, 4G of RAM is relatively low for a 64-bit system - you may be seeing a lot of virtual memory use, and if that's on a conventional spinning hard drive, is likely the system bottleneck.

Dear all,
I have a Dell Latitude E5470. It is 13 months old. I'm experiencing a very annoying problem. During the last weeks, as soon as I turn on the PC, the battery led starts flashing orange, very rapidly. Once I'm in Win10, the battery icon reports that the battery charge is 5%, but it is not charging. If I try to turn on the PC without the power supply, it doesn't start at all, as any battery is pugged in.
I tried several solutions I read and found on the forum (remove/add the Microsoft ACPI, turn off the PC and remove the battery, update the BIOS, etc.) but none of these succeded.
The BIOS says that the battery is plugged in, but there is a "communication error" so that the status of the battery cannot be identified, whilst the power supply is correctly identified (it reports "90W"). The ePSA diagnosis ends up with an "ePSA 4300-19 - Alert" that says: "Battery - The battery is not installed" and "Error code: 2000-0131".
Honestly I'm running out of ideas other than send the PC to the assistance: that means tens of days of inactivity...
Regards,
Vincenzo Suraci

Guys,
We just received a batch of E5470's but we are unable to encrypt them with Bitlocker.  We will be installing Win7 64bit.  The BIOS is at 1.12.6.  We will PXE boot and image these from a MDT.
In the BIOS, we select:
Boot sequence - UEFI (uncheck onboard NIC ipv4 and 6)
Advanced boot options - Select "enable legacy option ROMS" and "enable attempt legacy boot"
Integrated NIC - Check "enable UEFI network stack" and "enabled with PXE"
SATA Operation - AHCI
Security TPM 2.0 - "TPM On"  "SHA-256"  "Attestation Enable" "Key Storage Enable" and of course "Enabled"
Secure boot enable - "disabled"
MBAM gets loaded during the image.  When we login and attempt to enable bitlocker, it fails to encrypt every single time.

At the first login after the image, the TPM does show in device manager as "Broadcom USH" with an exclamation point.  After running Windows Updates and rebooting, it'll show as "Trusted Platform Module 2.0".

Does TPM need to be at 1.2 instead of 2.0?
Could someone please post the exact steps in order to get this enabled?
