I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey guys, I've got a problem and it started recently.

When I'm playing music(either WMP, Winamp or Media Player Classic, checked that) it laggs at certain points. If I don't use my computer, but keep the music playing it won't lagg, but it seems that when I use the HD/CPU it starts lagging(HD or CPU, not sure). I've already googled it, but not with different terms, because I have no idea how to describe this.

My computer specs(if you need em):
Motherboard: MSI K9N Neo-F V3
Sound card: Integrated
Video card: Zotac 8600GT
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
RAM: OCZ 2GB, DDR2-800, 4-4-4-15

I've just done a stress test with Everest, came out clean... I checked everything separately and all together, but it nothing affected my music. However when I analyze my disk using UltimateDefrag or when I start a program/game the music will lagg. This never was the case before, so something's got to be wrong... When starting another song or playback there is no lagg.

Things I recently changed: Went from no pagefile to 256 MB(I've been running fine with no pagefile for over four months, but I had to use it for UltimateDefrag's Boot Time module to work properly). Used the UD Boot Defrag, this might've caused it, but I'm not sure. There is also a possibility eBoostr messed up my RAM, but I have no idea how to check that. (Also did a stress test with System Memory, but nothing happened) I checked the Winamp default decoder for buffer underuns, but none have ever occurred...

Hey guys.

My laptop is a TOSHIBA Satellite L775 (Windows 7) and for quite a while now Iíve been having Ďstutteringí problems with the sound. If Iím watching a youtube video (or listening to music files on my hard drive) occasionally the sound lags. It wasnít too much of a problem at first but itís happening quite often now and is incredibly annoying/worrying.

Iíve checked out a lot of forums and questions online regarding similar problems, so far I have disabled and replaced my sound driver (although there are like 5 NVIDIA sound drivers I did not have the option to uninstall), disabled a few programs/services using the msconfig (although I donít think its related to the processor or processes, my laptop has 4GB of RAM and an intel i5 processor, Iíve ran pretty intensive games on it in the past with no problems so canít see it lagging over music).

I tried downloading a new Ďatherosí network driver, I didnít uninstall the current one as Iím in the middle of revision and donít want to cut myself off from the internet by mistake. I simply downloaded the replacement driver and ran the install wizard for it, the problem still wasnít fixed.

It might be worth nothing that after I disabled a few programs to see if it was the RAM that the problem seemed to get worse, with massive hangs in the audio. The first time I remember seeing this was almost a year ago, I was playing Crysis 2 and the game/sound crashed. Occasionally after this the stuttering would occur whils... Read more

I'm running Win XP Pro and I think I have a worm. I ran NAV and it doesn't come up with anything (I have all the latest updates for NAV and XP). Anyway, what is happening is Windows is lagging big time on startup, Ctrl+Alt+Delete will not bring up task manager, and in order to shut down the computer, I have to do a hard shutdown. I've read many of the posts here and don't know if I'm in the right forum (yeah I'm a new guy). I ran Hijackthis and hope someone can help. Here's the log

I've already posted this in the motherboard forum but realised it'd be better to ask it here!
I'm using WinXP on a Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Pro motherboard. It has onboard AC'97 Realtek sound.
If I use their surround test to check my 5.1 setup all the speakers work as expected. Also works fine if I play surround sound from a video in VLC or Potplayer.
A stereo source plays from the centre, front left, front right and bass speakers as expected.
The problem is any sound from a browser - I've tried both Firefox and Explorer - only comes out of the front left and right speakers. Any other stereo source would normally play from front left, front right, centre and bass.
I have tried the latest driver from Gigabyte's website ver A3.92 and the latest Realtek driver version A4.06.
To recap: surround works fine with everything but web browser sound only appearing front left and right (no bass or centre).
(oh and I also am using this computer with Windows 8.1 update on another drive - different drivers obviously - and the sound is fine with everything including the browser)
Any ideas what's wrong here and what I can do to fix it?

The update must have steps on a few sound files. I recommend you download the latest sound drivers and install them after deleting all sound devices within Device Manager. Once you delete them reboot and Windows will discover them as new hardware and you should select Have Disk and use the drivers you donwloaded.

I'm running WinXP Home - I just recently reset my computer after it began working quite slowly (I thought because of system resources), and I encountered two problems upon returning to windows. First, Windows has reverted to Windows Classic Style, and Windows XP Style is not an option in the display menu. My sound drivers have apparently disappear as well. I get an "Error 88780078" every time I try to play music. All of my system restore points are gone, so system restore is out of the question. I have already run Symantec AntiVirus, Ad-Aware, and Spybot, with no problems found in any of them. Does anyone know what might be going on, and/or how to fix my problems?

I have also just discovered that I cannot enable auto-protect with Symanetic AntiVirus, and the device manager does not show any hardware at all. Thanks for any help in advance!

Yet another update - I ran network diagnostics under Windows Help tools, and I recieved WMI Errors on every test. I'm having a near panic attack!

recently i used the windows XP backup cd to reinstall windows XP

except for two things
The speakers dont work anymore
I think it is because of a couple of drivers
If i go to device manager
there are 4 driver things such as PCI device, SM BUS controller, Video Controller, and VideoController [VGA compatible].
Im not sure what these are but they arent working.

And after i re-installed XP
when i minimized windows
or dragged windows
it laggs sort of
im not sure why

A:No Sound and Lagging

Both seems to be a driver problem, audio and video respectively. I cant' figure out why your backup CD didn't install the drivers properly but you can determine you audio and video chipset with a hardware detection tool (like PCWizard or HWinfo32) and download the drivers from the correspondig webpages.

Hi, i just got a new pc and im having sound problems; basically every so often the sound sort of lags out and goes stuttery for about 1 to 5 seconds then resumes as normal. On the performance monitor cpu usage spikes up to 50-60% for the duration.

-Using logitech Z-10 speakers, got the latest drivers, and the problem occurs when im using different speakers also

-Running vistax64 on a pretty high-end pc, so really i shouldnt be running out of resources just to play sound.

-Bought a sound card, hoping to fix the problem, but its the same whether i use onboard sound or the card.

-The problem occurs in all applications, not just WM player

I think the problem is some kind of issue with data transfer and processing within the pc (whether its hard or software based i dont know). It appears to be only sound that displays lag/slowdown symptoms.

I tried sticking some music onto a flash drive and playing it from there, but again it stuttered so im guessing its not a hard drive issue.

Im really running out of ideas, so any help would be vastly appreciated

A:Stuttering/Lagging sound

Sounds like a driver issue. What sound card and what on-board audio program are you using? There have been issues with Vista and or 64bit.

Is it a virus issue, corrupted driver, buffer issue? I have tried all the standard attemps to resolve but nothing to date. Hi! This problem began happening a couple weeks ago. Every now and then, at random intervals, whatever I'm doing, my computer will begin having extreme lag. The music I'm listening to will distort, any games I'm playing will drop to 10 or lower FPS, my ping in the game spikes to 2000+, even though the internet is fine at the time. This happens when I am using offline applications as well, such as reading pdf files, or typing word documents. The problem seems to intensify as I use my computer for longer periods of times. There are no viruses on this computer, I've checked using multiple virus scans. Is this possibly a hardware problem?

Thanks for any help.

A:Lagging and Sound Distortion

Yes, possibly hardware.

The standard test for RAM is memtest86+. Run it for 6 or 8 passes, which might take overnight.

For hard drives, use the drive manufacturer's testing tool, downloadable from the manufacturer's web site in the support area.

Get memtest86+ here and burn it to a disk and boot from it.

Have you taken a look at processes or RAM usage in Task Manager or Resource Monitor during the times that the PC is lagging??

Some info about your hardware might help--CPU, hard drives, and RAM at least.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite laptop that's giving me a new, strange problem after a year of more or less good service. I recently sent it back to have a fluttering screen replaced under warranty, got it back and reinstalled all my files from a back-up and everything was peachy except:

When I play a DVD, CD or even a media file from the HD on it I get static and a sort of raspy buzzing to the sound and everything seems to be dragging time-wise, it sounds like a dusty LP record with someone pressing a finger to the thing to lag the sound.

I also no matter what I do to clean the registry and all get the new QuickTime and iTunes to install. All I can run is VLC, Real Player and Windows Media Player, abet with the static. I've done a good dozen tries with everything online I've found to purge everything Apple, reinstalled from new installers and no joy.

I started thinking well maybe it's a hardware problem but then it occurred to me to boot my Knoppix CD on it and try to play some of the AVI and MOV files that suddenly play with static and lo and behold no static.

Under Knoppix I've played a huge amount of MP3s as well and no static, lag, wobble or anything. If I didn't need a couple of XP only things I'm almost ready to go Linux all the way at this point, but alas...

I went back to the Toshiba XP boot, reinstalled all the drivers I could and there's still the static. My only option is to backup and erase the drive as there isn... Read more

Hey there. I'm not sure what the problem is, but since yesterday, my laptop's sound & video keeps lagging..the whole time.

Yesterday i was djing on the laptop through a mixer..and then the sound disorted, like the speaker had been blown..if it's blown would it still be playing audio though? and could that be the reason for the lagging/stuttering? (that it's blown maybe)

here's a video of what i mean (since it would be a lot easier to explain)

When windows starts, the greeting sound also does it..overall all the audio and video does

Hope you guys can help out (the video might be quite loud so i'd suggest turning down your volume a bit, it recorded pretty loud)

It happens in every player. windows media, vlc, quicktime..etc. Only installed dj software recently, but it was working perfectly for quite a while...until last night.

My laptop HP pavilion Laptop has lagging Memory, as far as i know.

the specs of it are:

AMD turion 64 Mobile
1.99 GHZ, 1.00 GB of RAM

Just yesterday the performance of the computer has started to lag by %50 idling.
When idle it runs at %50 - %90 CPU usage. Boot up is half as slow, when logging on, the sound jitters and crunches and skips. when playing any form of media the sound crunches and jitters. The mouse jitters off and on, doenst moove smoothly. Overall computer system performance is slower than usual, dramatically.

My proccesses are quite high, due to two active users often (70 odd processess) but i have tired to cut them down (45) = not much help.

Due to the fact that logon has sound jitters and takes up twice as long to happen.. i assume it is more than just the active processess.

I have been running an indepth virus scanner (NOD32) and found some trojans and viruses, but managed to clean them = problem still persists, glitchy sound, high memory use for no apparent reason.

I have also ran an spyware remover (Spybot Search & Destroy) and have proven "clean".

..Can anyone recommend me an appropiate thread or solution, or way to analyze??

I am concerned my laptop is overheating.. ??

I have no idea.

Should i back everything up and do a system restore? or a reinstall?

Would it be hardware?

Thank you for your time.

I have a weird, and infuriating problem.  When I connect my HP 350 G2 laptop to the internet with ethernet cable, everything works just fine. Streaming videos don't lag much and things work. But when I use the wireless card, this happens: Even though I get 5/5 bars, so the connection is strong...  The sound (and sometimes picture) has weird stuttering and freezing. It makes a buzzing sound. For example if I watch a video and someone says: "Let's go and get them", it could sound like this: "LetTRRRRRR's go and gTRRRRRRRRRet them". It happens every 20-60 seconds, roughly. Video playback on wireless is more stuttery otherwise too, compared to ethernet. I have tried to shut down programs and services on the background that I don't need, no help. This model uses the Realtek wireless card. I also installed the driver again, no help. My connection should be fast enough, 24mbit ADSL. All my drivers are the latest from HP site.  When I play the same streaming videos on my iPad, they work flawlessly. If anybody could point me to the right direction what to try next, I would be grateful. This is driving me crazy. Thank you.  EDIT: I didn't know how to properly describe it, but I found this on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF9Pvdsz0UM It sounds on my computer exactly like his (check the video from 47-52 seconds).

OK, I just made an interesting discovery. But I am still puzzled.  When I first got this computer, I tried to clone the drive to an SSD. For some reason it didn't boot. I've cloned many drives in the past, I have no idea why this was different and what I should have done differently. So. I put in the SSD and installed Win8.1 from the scratch, got all the latest drivers from HP. Then my aforementioned sound problems started. SO, I put the original drive back in, with the original factory installation. With that the streaming video is still a little twitchy, but I guess you can expect that from WiFi. But the sound problem is gone. What I now wonder is: - How come I couldn't clone the drive in the first place, what is so different about Win8.1 and/or HP laptops that I should know about, compared to other drives I've cloned. - Could it have something to do with the SSD? I doubt that though(?) - Is it that for some reason the older version of the driver works better than the one on HP site. - IS THERE A SPECIFIC ORDER to install the drivers, chipset, LAN etc.... or ? - How an earth am I going to get the SSD on my computer now, I am so used to its speed. Any ideas about safely cloning it? - Wonder if installing Win10 would make any difference? I even tried to first put it in, then restore the system from recovery discs, but it always immediately stops with an error: 0xefffff23  Any advice wo...

Problem with laptop Audio/Video lagging/stuttering - YouTube

When windows starts, the greeting sound also does it..overall all the audio and video does

Hope you guys can help out (the video might be quite loud so i'd suggest turning down your volume a bit, it recorded pretty loud)

Zkteh, I also am experiencing this very same issue. What I have noticed is that when I check my task manager, there are several processes running for whatever browser I am currently running. Whether I use internet explorer or google chrome, it still happens. I believe all these processes running like this is using up too much memory as it shows my usage at almost 100%. I am going to write a question in the forum and hopefully we can get some help. Sorry I'm not writing with a solution, but I thought you would like to know that you aren't alone.

About 1-1.5 months ago, I downloaded a file that might have been malicious. First thing I noticed was that while I was watching a Youtube, the sound started stuttering/echoing as the video lags as well. I then noticed that this also happens with any video on the internet (facebook, narutoget, vines, yahoo, imdb, etc...) At first I thought it was just my internet connection. I restarted my router but it still happens. I opened a mp3 file with Windows Media Player and the thing happens. System sound also stutter/echo. Recently, I downloaded a GBA emulator. I was playing a game when the sound started stuttering/echoing. I noticed then that it wasn't just the sound, the game was also slowing down as the sound stutters.
This does not happen everytime I play a video/game. Sometimes, I can go through a whole 20 min video without any issue. Sometimes, the issue starts as soon I start a video but disappears eventually. Sometimes the video starts ok but gets worse eventually, gets better, then gets worse, etc...
Recently, I got an email from my bank saying that they would be replacing my credit card for suspicion of fraud. The email stated they they're not saying that fraud has or will happen. I've had my credit for almost three years and never had my credit card forcefully replaced.

I'm not sure how to approach this becuase there are so many methods of repairing or generally speeding up your internet connection.

If you have a cable modem unplug the power for 60-120 seconds.
Or, close any recently installed programs that might be accessing the internet.

Hello guys, how are you doing?

I've got the strangest thing going on on my WinXP SP2. I just formatted my Notebook and reinstalled everything.

My computer has a SoundMAX Integrated Sound System.

Cutting to the chase, I can listen music in Winamp or watch videos in Media Player qithout any problem, I can even use my webcam for chatting online and the sound is working fine.

But, there's no sound from the events in Windows, which means that, for example, if I'm connected to Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger, when I receive a mail it should sound but it doesn't. Or when I log in or shut down to Windows, it doesn't make any sound either. I've been to the "Sound and Audio Device Properties" in Control Panel and I've put "Windows Default" in the Sound scheme, but it doesn't want to play. It doesn't even allow me to try the sound. Here is one picture for getting the idea more clear.

As you see, between "Windows XP Error" and "Browse" the arrow is not activated, and I cannot explain myself why. If I play that same sound it Media Player, it works, but I cannot enable it from there, for some strange reason.

Please, I hope somebody can help me with this, is driving me nuts...

Thank you for your time!!!

A:There's sound...and not, in WinXP

I just wanted to add that I have this exact same problem. You also don't hear sounds that are integrated into websites, such as from a flash file. I also would like to add that there is a weird, very low crackling sound attached to the "phone" meter in volume control. If you turn phone all the way off, then the crackling sound disappears, if you turn it up all the way, then you can hear it if you put your ear very close to the speakers.

i installed a clean version of Windows XP Home Edition but the system can't play sounds. in the Device Manager it said that C-Media AC97 Sound Device needed a driver. I found one and installed it but it did not help -- now it says "The Device Cannot Start [Code 10]". What can I do to enable sounds in my system?

I have recently installed windows xp, however there is no sound. I have checked the device manager which reports that it is working properly, with no conflicts.

I downloaded the most recent driver (I have an AC'97 onboard chip), however this had no effect.

Everything is connected properly and I have checked the volume levels. My current configuration is WIN98SE installed on my C drive (40gb HDD) dualbooted with WINXP installed on the D drive (10gb HDD) and when I boot into WIN98 the sound works perfectly, so it is definately a software problem.

in win xp go to control panel and open sounds and audio devices.on the audio tab , are your devices showing up or are they greyed out? if not open the volume and make sure the sliders are up and nothing is muted. there is also a mute option on the first tab which is also labeled volume.

When I try to place the volume icon in the desktop taskbar I get this message: "Windows cannot display volume control on the taskbar because the volume control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel." I cannot play sounds either.
It is not in Add/Remove Programs list, nor Add/Remove Windows Components. Sounds and Audio Device are as follows: Realtek AC97 Audio
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Media control devices
Legacy video capture devices
Video codecs

Properties for each device shows "this device is working properly". Any helpful suggestions to get my sound & icon back? Thanks.

Mobo ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe with onboard Realtek Audio.

Since purchased new the audio never worked.

I have installed since a few PCI audio cards but did not work either & the last one with its drivers loaded from its small CD gives sound but very weak.

Has anybody a magic idea of how to get sound on this oldish mobo?

thanx ........nick

A:no sound winXP

if you want to use the onboard sound card, go into the BIOS and make sure its enabled, from there go to the asus website and find audio drivers for your mb, download & install.

Then play a song or cd and have your speakers plugged it & powered on if it does not work then leave the song playing and plug the speakers into the other sound ports at the back of the computer until you hear sound. (its possible you have them plugged into the wrong port on the back)
