hidden device manager items

Q: hidden device manager items

My friend ran SAS on her machine and removed several trogans along with alot of tracking cookies. Her HP laptop running XP then would not get internet. I am looking at it now and all the devices in the device manager are either hidden or removed, most everthing works but the ethernet card. There are no lights on the port when a cable is plugged in. Will the unhide program fix this or do I try something else?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If there are no lights on the port then its a hardware issue. Their should always be lights, but can you open up a command prompt and type in the following:

ping 127.0.0.1

Post the output here.

There are some of devices that were mission from device manager.
At first, there was a problem with wireless adapter, I couldn't enable it.
I tried to reinstall drivers serveral times, but it didn't fix the problem.
So i reformat my system, 2 times. the problem is still existing.
It's getting worst, now i can't find wireless network adapter, lan network adapter and card reader in device manager.
It is weird that sometime the  wireless adapter appears in device manger, those 2 devices come back too.
I am quite sure that my wireless adapter hardware is ok because i did replace new wireless adapter but the problem still exist.
I ran some antivirus tools, antimalware tools, non of them return infected.
The weirdest issue is that my wireless adapter comes with bluetooth adapter.
but only bluetooth adapter can be used, it works perfectly fine.
Could you please take a look at this problem, im at the deadend. this is the weirdest problem i ever had with  my laptop and pc.
Thank you

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

I've been chasing this problem in a software forum but am beginning to wonder if it's due to failed hardware.

I have a second hand Advent laptop running on XP Home. In the past I've been able to video edit using an Avid program. Having removed and some time later re-installed this program it now doesn't work and flags up a warning about the video card (ATI mobility radeon 9000.) In the meantime I've also installed XP Pro SP2 and allowed auto updates. I've tried re-installing agp and card drivers that I've found on the internet (XP doesn't have them) and when that didn't work I did a clean install of XP Home in case XP Pro SP2 was causing the problem. When I look in device manager there are several devices with problems.

Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
PCI Modem
Video Controller

I have tried uninstalling them and allowing Windows to attempt a re-install on the next start up, doesn't work, Windows can't find or start the devices. (code 28 or 10)

I know that the onboard modem has never worked (laptop bought 2nd hand) and I'm beginning to wonder if all these controllers are on the same chip and that this is a hardware fault? Despite the list of queries in device manager, I can still hear audio, play mpegs on the Windows Media Player and network with my desktop. I don't really understand why things seem to work even though the devices that I presume are responsible for the functions have a proble... Read more

I recently uninstalled a usb logitech headset and tried to put my old analog headset back in and it would not work. I then detected through view on device managers the invisable driver and also uninstalled it. It still will not work and when I do a driver detector scan I still show having

"USB Composite Device - Logitech USB Headset"
"USB Mass Storage Device - U3 Cruzer Micro"

They are under "Unplugged Devices".

I am using a trial version of Driver Detective to find these and don't want to buy it. So I was wondering if these two(for sure the first one) need to be uninstalled before I can hook up another headset how else could I go about uninstalling them? Or would another usb headset just install over them without a problem?

A:Device manager hidden devices.

If you have uninstalled all of those, and;

You don't have anything else from Logitech/Cruzer,
just go to Start->Run->Regedit
then Edit->Find->Find next

Delete everything.
Reboot.
Pray.

EDIT:

No problem is so huge (in these small spheres) that it couldn't be solved with free software.

So never ever go buy anything unless you area SURE it is exactly what you need.

after installing software for a logitech webcam, i noticed that the little network activity icon (the two computer screens) was no longer displayed in my taskbar. i uninstalled the software (it wouldnt work anyway, which is strange) to no avail. i then went to network connections in the control panel, and thats when i discovered that there were none. normally, there's three: 1394, wireless and network connections. i then went to the device manager to investigate further, and nothing shows up there either. a virus scan showed no problems. what the heck happened?!

also, i forgot to add that im still able to use the internet via the wireless connection.

Hi. I tryed to make a system back up but it keeps failing with error code0x80070002) (windows cant find a backup device) went into disk manager and found that my external hard drive that I had plugged in to make the backup on was present and working fine, the strange thing was that i couldnt see my internal hard drive, I did the command promt "devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" this enabled me to see the disk in device maneger but windows was telling me that the disk was not connected to the system? system restore wont work and like a fool i deleated my previous backup image to make room for the new one. I also tryed startup repair and this failed to find any errors, I should point out though that windows explorer shows my internal hard drive, which is the drive my OS is running from but disk manager refuses to show it and i dont get a "show hidden devices" in the view tab either. I also have XP installed on a different partition to run some old stuff i like to use and the disk manager in xp is also hiding my hard drive. any ideas??

EDIT Moved from WIN7 to Am I Infected~~~ boopmeHi everyone, and thanks for accepting me as a new member to this forum! I believe I was able to successfully remove Windows Recovery Virus from my laptop running windows 7 - 64 bit! I tried my best to follow instructions how to get rid of this nasty virus with the help of Bleeping Computer instructions - but I obviously made some mistakes, too!I used RKill download link, and Malwarebytes link, and also Unhide.exe link ! Then I also used my antivirus programs already on my computer, and I believe some antivirus program deleted some of my files so that automated unhide files programs cannot restore those missing (deleted) files ! So I guess - my only course is to somehow restore missing files manually ! But knowing only little about computers, for me instructions to restore hidden files manually seem to be quite complicated (as was removal of windows recovery virus itself)! I was able (miracle!!!) to restore desktop icons somehow - and even Start menu items on the left side came visible again ! But the right side, where Control Panel, Documents, Pictures etc. etc. used to be before - is still hidden. Somehow there is one item - it is "Computer" and it works as before showing all drives! So - what I have noticed so far that desktop background is black - icons are there - but some Start menu items are hidden - and who knows maybe something else! I have had full M... Read more

I can fix this by right-clicking the toolbar, going to "Customize", and closing that new window, and my bookmarks show up again. How do I fix this? It's really bugging me as I don't want a whole toolbar just for the bookmarks alone.

I was gone a while from my computer, and I left Ventrillo on.. I usually keep it minimized to the system tray (beside the clock)

It's usually visible, because I am always using it..

well it is hidden now. Its open, I hear the beep when I press the talk button so I know its working properly. Just not visible on the task bar or notification area...

I have set the Notification area icons to "always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar"

but it doesn't show up... as well as a few other programs I have noticed over the times..

No mater what settings I do in the "Notification area Icons" control panel, nothing makes them show!

The only way I can really get to them is by going into task manager, closing the program, and re open it, and hope it doesn't go back to system tray by default..

If that happens I have to reset to get it back (only has happened once so far but that was my fault I think)

The only programs that don't seem to have this phenomena are windows related programs - volume control, and network.. also noticed antivirus doesn't seem to do that ither but it might be that I just forgot, or didn't notice..

Ive searched on google with no real success

thanks in advance.

A little over a week ago my computer contracted a virus and by the time Malwarebytes had finished scanning and finding/removing 7 or 8 infected files, nearly all the icons on the desktop were gone and the start menu simply showed "empty".

I rebooted in safe mode and while looking around noticed that the files were all still on my computer but hidden. I brought my laptop into my mom's office and her IT guy worked on it. He said it had "infected the master boot record" which he cleaned, and reinstalled Vipre to the computer.

However, when I brought the computer home and turned it on the items were practically still empty in the start menu, and a scan uncovered another trojan virus. I assume this was related to the earlier issues.

I looked for some fixes via google on getting the start menu back in order but nothing seemed to work, and I noticed some of the programs, like Paint for example, don't seem to be accessible at all, even via My Computer. And then earlier this morning when I was browsing these forums before work it seemed like everybody was combofixing . . . so I ran that . . . I don't believe it did anything positive or negative but info. that should be mentioned.

Would greatly appreciate any advice on how to proceed, thank you so much.

I was gone a while from my computer, and I left Ventrillo on.. I usually keep it minimized to the system tray (beside the clock)

And anyway it is usually visible, because I am always using it..

well anyway it is hidden now. Its open, I hear the beep when I press the talk button so I know its working properly.

If that happens I have to reset (only has happened once so far but that was my fault I think)

thanks

Hi,
I am writing on behalf of my friend b/c I already have an account here. A couple of days ago she was on her laptop when numerous pop ups started filling up her screen, the kind that makes one think "virus". The pop ups looked like system messages about some critical error with some hardware component, she can't remember. So I suggested that she go into Safe Mode and run her Avast and SuperAntiSpyware scanners to see what they pick up. Avast found one infected file, a music file that she deleted afterwards, and SAS found 34 items, mostly cookies and 4 trojans. She deleted/quarantined those afterwards too. Oddly, no log file was created by SAS after that scan like it usually does so I can't list the items they found. Also, SAS always fails when updating definitions now.
When she booted up normally, her computer was in a depressing state after the attack. The desktop was empty and unresponsive, i.e., you couldn't right-click, the Recycle Bin was gone. I tried to add icons back on but nothing appears. You can change the wallpaper and that's it. The start menu was bare too, everything had to be manually restored like the links to Control Panel, Run, etc., and all the shortcuts in the All Programs menu. However, I can't restore the Accessories folder with all it's system tools (System Restore!!!) and stuff. The Task Manager was disabled but I fixed that after looking for a solution online. She was panicking when it seemed as if all her da... Read more

Hi
I'm helping a friend who had a malware infection, which has now apparently been eradicated. Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit. I don't know if the problems it still has are a result of the malware, or if they were preexisting on my friend's computer. But I suspect they were used by the malware to protect itself.

*The taskbar won't unlock, even temporarily (in contrast to the folder properties issue mentioned below).
*I can't show hidden files/extensions, even temporarily.
*Folder properties can't be altered permanently, e.g. the user documents folder is always displayed as "Pictures and Videos" type instead of "All Items" ; can't set to use Windows Classic folders, show full path in Title Bar, etc. These items CAN be altered temporarily, but the previous settings always revert on rebooting.)
*Context menu items such as new folder, new text document are not present.
*Deleted files do not show up in the recycle bin.
*No matter which browser (FF or MSIE) is set as default, when the default browser is reopened it always states to this effect: "This is not the default browser. Would you like to make it the default browser?"

These did not return to normal after doing a system restore to 3 weeks before the time the malware became apparent.
The system restore was done before eliminating the malware. The following were tried afterwards:
I ran Unhide (from Bleepingcomputer) several times; no effect.
I ran System File Checker several times; ... Read more

Two of my USB external Hard drives, a Fantom 600 GB and a Western Digital My Book 500GB cannot be seen in My Computer. I can see them in Device Manager and that says that they are working properly and the drivers are up to Date. In Disk Manager the 2 external drives had a black bar unlike the other drives which had blue bars. The 2 external disks had a number assigned to them but no letter.

I have tried diskpart in the command prompt, was able to assign a letter, then had to format the drives and they did show up in My computer as valid empty external hard drives with the correct amount of space on them. But when I tried to recover the backed up data for one of the disks (less than a third of the capacity of either drive) they went back to not being recognized by My Computer ans in disk manager had a black line with no letter again.

I just went through that process again, got both drives back and tried to recover the backed up files to my Fantom drive and lost the Fantom drive once again.

I am attaching screen shots of my current My Computer (Computer in 7) Device Manager and Disk Manager. In Device Manager you can see the Fantom. The My Book is the WD 5000AAV. In Disk Manager the My Book shows healthy with Disk 1 and the letter L. The Fantom is Disk 2 with no letter and a black bar. In My computer, the My Book is there but not the Fantom.

Any ideas for this. I am about to just recover my computer to factory setup and start new. I have sa... Read more

A:External drives show in Device Manager & Disk Manager but not Computer

Hi Dick1030,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Please do as follows:

1. It is unusual for the System Reserved Partition to have a drive letter. Please remove the drive letter.

2. Please remove (always Safely Remove) all the external drives including any card reader and do a drive cleanup as indicated here. http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/298744-usb-thumb-drives-not-recognised-not-drive-letter.html#post2477076 It will clean your system of all non-present devices and you will be starting with a clean slate.(Incidentally this can resolve many drive letter assignment confusion of Windows OS, as you can see in the referenced thread.)

3. After you reboot on completion of the drive cleanup, plugin only your WD My Book and the Fantom drive. As you plug-in the driver for each device will be installed ab-initio. You can watch it.

4. Now take a screenshot of the Disk Management and post. While taking the screenshot, click on "Show/Hide Console Tree” and “Show/Hide Action Pane” buttons on the toolbar on top to hide those and also pull up the center partition line up as much as possible so that we get a clear and full view.

5. Also tell us whether you are sure that you had formatted the Fantom drive and it contains data and whether you want to recover the data..

(Your statements and the screenshots are so confusing - atleast to me - it is necessary that you do the above and restate the problem.)

Yesterday, I started a download and kept the pc on with my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex External HDD 1TB plugged in. After I woke up I realized that there was a power cut and the computer went off unexpectadly (I had no UPS or any backup system). And, I found that my Ext HDD was not seen in my computer anymore (It was working perfectly until before I went to bed).
In device manager, under 'Disks' it shows 'GoFlex Hard Disk', but in BIOS or Disk Manager there is no sign of this HDD.

I really need the data in the HDD badly. Please help me recover it.
P.S. I read somewhere that keeping the HDD in freezer might help and give a little more time. Is that true? Worth the risk?

A:External HDD gets detected in Device Manager but not Disk Manager or seen in 'My Computer'

Power outage probably killed something in the enclosure or its PSU. The drive in the enclosure is probably fine. I would remove the drive from the enclosure and put it in a dock or install it in a desktop computer before considering freezing it. Freezing is usually reserved for click of death drives, and a last ditch effort.

Hello -- I always seem to be low on resourses. When I try to find the culprit in Task Manager, there are certain items that are always there. So, do I need these things (what do they do?) and if not, how do I get rid of them?

qttask.exe
directcd.exe
DadApp.exe
SyynTPEnh.exe
SynTPLpr.exe

There are also always at least 4-5 SVCHOST.EXE -- do I need them all????

And lastly, Explorer is always at 28,000 k (or so), which seems awfully high. Suggestions?

Please help!!!!

Hey there!

I need some help, right now I am scanning my computer with KAspersky to see if I have any viruses, and I have scanned with my virus scanner from Trend Micro.

I plan on scanning with Spybot and Adaware as well.

When I am done I will post a hijack this.

I have 81 items in task manager right now. I have never seen it go over 52 and that is when I am running a few programs. I am not running anything right now.

Any suggestions of what else I need to do as well as running all of these additional scans?

I have downloaded a couple of school programs for my child from disks I bought from the Learning company, but that is all that I have done.

I am also wanting to clean out any unwanted programs. Could you please direct me to the right post to clean this junk out please. I have looked, and maybe it is just right in front of me, but I cannot see it.

Thanks alot.
Sincerely,
Mamabear

Oh by the way, alot of the tasks are repeating themselves over and over.

The AUDIO FADE PROBLEM is an issue with this laptop and I am wondering if it is related to the above.
I have upgraded to the latest BIOS and drivers using the Dell Product Support pages.
Every other day I have to reinstall the Realtek Audio Device to get audio from streaming media.
The current Driver Version is 6.0.1.7908 from Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Date 12/08/2016 which is what it defaults to upon reinstall.
I suspect that for whatever reason Dell has not yet come up with a fix. Has it something to do with the fact that although I bought the laptop new, it had been upgraded from Windows 8 to 10? (A fact that I only discovered later)

Dell Vostro 1400, Core2Duo. Installed Windows 7 64 bit a year and a half ago. For those not familiar, the Vostro is not entirely compatible with 64 bit, so the drivers are a little hit and miss.

Computer runs slow sometimes, has since the install. I don't think I've ever seen the yellow triangles before, but I may have never looked at the device manager ... the computer is a secondary machine in the house.

My question is, do these indicate a performance problem or can I ignore them and assume the computer is working as best it can?

A:Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

please check out this webpage. it may help you to get started: Device Manager - yellow exclamation point

The yellow icons showing an exclamation point can indicate missing or improper drivers. The system does not seem to recognizing your hardware. Hope this gets you started.

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

I see three different audio driver packages at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...ct=3646926#N661.You need to find the right one to install. If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your system...it just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

On my X1 Extreme (20MF000CUS) I recently noticed that when I open the Windows 10 Device Manager the list of devices keeps refreshing, like a new hardware scan is being forced every 2-3 seconds. I started disabling all the devices one by one and I finally narrowed down the culprit: USB Connect Managers -> UCM-UCSI ACPI Device  (Hardware Id: ACPI\VEN_USB&DEV_C000) This device, when active, keeps appearing and disappearing from the device manager tree forcing a refresh every few seconds. And it only happens when my Lenovo Thunderbolt Dock (40AN0230US) is connected. When I disconnect the dock the driver stops disappearing and becomes stable. Opening the driver Properties -> Details I get: Status: 01802400 (DN_HAS_PROBLEM)Problem code: 00000016 Any idea what is going on?

Hi Malware Specialist!

I started out in the "Am I infected?" Forum and a junior specialist sent me here to get further help, here is the link to the 4 logs I ran for him:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic428124.html/page__p__2477667__hl__polarsnowfall__fromsearch__1#entry2477667

For several days I have been trying to complete the preliminary steps required by this forum, I can not back up to windows/microsoft program (Backup Configuration not valid 0X8100029), but hopefully the two other programs I used were successful, namely cobaine and driveimage. At the end of the driveimage session, it frozen and there was "Globalroot\device" followed by various endings. Then it completed and said finished. Also it went to blue screen the firsttime I tried to run GMER and rebooted.

The main problems of slow programs from startup, no devices in device manager, no audio device and no printing capability began after I ran some kids software games that kinda of frozen the computer, although I believe whatever is making my computer upset has been there for awhile and may have something to do with remnants of roxio 2009 and other shared folders. In services it says "Configuration Manager machine selected for remote communication is not available at this time."

Yesterday:
