Preferred Solution: RAM upgrade to Lenovo G500

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I own a lenovo g500 which currently uses 6gb of 1600mhz ddr3 ram, one 4gb and one 2gb stickI was planning to upgrade the ram to 8gb by replacing the 2gb stick with a 4gb ddr3l stick. But when I replaced it the laptop wouldn't boot up. My research showed that the 4gb ddr3l stick should work but it didn't.All the ram sticks are from the same company so I don't think its a problem with the ram.

Hey Greg,

Since the SSD would be the same standard 2.5" size of the HDD in the laptop, you shouldn't have any issues swapping them.

The metal tray that holds the hard drive will have side screws that will work with the SSD as well. Just make sure that the SATA connection lines up before screwing the SSD on the tray though to avoid having to flip it afterwards. LOL

Hello there, I own a Lenovo G500, a 2013 model, and I just bought a 2 x 4GB 1600 MHz Kingston HyperX DDR3L memory kit.I pulled the old 4 GB memory out and put the new cards in, but both my Windows 7 and the BIOS see only one of them, so the laptop only uses 4 GB of RAM.I tried putting the cards in one by one, the bottom slot works, but when I only use the top slot, the laptop does not boot. It's likely this is the problem, cause even CPU-Z only sees RAM in one of the slots and displays "Single Channel" running. My question would be: is there a possibility this is a software issue? Is there a way to enable dual channel? If not, could this be a motherboard issue? Thank you. Regards,Darren

I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is not booting to Windows and hanging at Lenovo Logo and the issue persists even after performing Flee-Power step. Hence, I suggest to perform BIOS reset and check if the issue persists. Below are the steps to perform BIOS reset:

Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer will automatically restart.

You can do this to exclude device driver from Windows Updates

Open a run box (Windows key + R)
Type in sysdm.cpl   hit enter
Then click on Advanced System Settings

You should have a windows with Tabs / Go to Hardware TAB and click on Device Installation settings

Now click on "No let me choose what to do"
Never Install driver software from Windows Update then save changes.

Hope this helps

You may use your serial number here on the parts look up page to get your OEM motherboard part number.
Using the part number to order or search online from other resellers in your location would help.

You can also call in  1-800-3000-9991 or to check here on where to buy as option.

Here is your hardware manual for reference as it includes FRU list to match the part number with the disassembly guide.

Typing this on mobile device so have to be succinct.  Upon pressing power button: No backlight on monitor appears (monitor remains black) Fan remains running at normal speed Little lights indicating battery/power status of unit work normally removing/alternating ram has no effect on occasion when the laptop works, the slightest nudge will crash/power off system i know it sounds bad (motherboard damage maybe?) but any thoughts would be appreciated

A:Lenovo G500 fan running, no booting

The nudge & crash symptom is concerning.       Did the laptop get dropped or have anything happen to it that might lead you to believe the motherboard would be damaged, or result i the screen failing?     Do you have the ability to try connecting and external monitor to see if the system is actually booting?Does the position of the screen have any effect?    (I ask because there is a cable between the screen and base that can become damaged overtime, and perhaps could be shorting. Best of luck, Lenovo G400/G500/G405/ G505/G410/G510 Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g400g500g405g505g410g510_hmm.pdf

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Yes, you can use the battery.  That G580 battery is compatible with several Lenovo models including the G500.

mAh is related to the battery's capacity.  The higher the number,  the longer the battery life between charges.

Lenovo does not make drivers, it is just a reseller. If the hardware is not supported, there is nothing it can do.

That said, everything might work, 8.1 drivers are mostly compatible with 10, so you will not know, until you try.

Hi,I want my battery to stop charging when fully charged and I'm using the net charger, as I use the laptop very few times on mobile and don't want the battery to go for charging cycles if not needed. The laptop is Lenovo G500 with OS Windows 8.1 and Lenovo Energy Management.Does the laptop stop automatically charging the battery when it reaches 100% and can I keep it plugged to the laptop or do I need to remove the battery for this goal? Thanks in advance for any information

A:Battery info - Lenovo G500

Hi Lurenz,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Using an update Lenovo Energy Mangement tool, you can try setting conservation mode.

Removing the battery (page 36) can also be a good option if you do not use the laptop outside that often as recharge cycles will not be used and any generated heat will not effect the battery (heat can contribute to faster battery usage).

Opening the battery side can also be an extra ventilation for the laptop too.
Just keep the battery at normal room temperature and use is once a week for maintainance.

Hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how it goes best for you.

Regards

My laptop was plugged into my tv via HDMI. I ran a virus scan, then restarted. During the restart, I unplugged it from the tv. When the laptop booted back up, it displayed the lenovo logo, then the screen went dark. I waited a while, then tried plugging the HDMI cable back in... and windows (10) appeared as normal on the TV, but still not on the laptop screen. I am able to turn the dark screen contrast up and down with F keys, so it's not completely black.

Basically, I can use my laptop when plugged into the tv, but the laptop screen itself is black. How can I get the screen working again?

Thanks,

I have a G500 Ideapad that will not boot or boot to the bios no matter what I try. It goes directly to a blank screen (back light is on monitor but nothing appears) no matter which button I push to turn it on. The Lenovo screen does not appear. I have removed everything including the hard drive, reseated the ram and the processor and have even unplugged the cmos battery after removing the main battery for days and it still will not go to bios. This happened two other times but I was able to get it to go to bios. I have upgraded from win 8.1 to 10.

I tried the hard reset. Nothing. I even tried to put another hard drive from another computer in but still get that maddening blank screen right after turning on. Trying Fn + F1 or F2 does nothing. I would love if someone has some idea I can try to get to the bios I have not tried.

Hello.I have a Lenovo G500 and I removed the DVD drive and replaced with a HDD caddy so I can use a SSD and my 1 TB HDD in my laptop. All worked fine for about 1 year, but after that my Lenovo G500 started to get stuck at the LENOVO logo and won't boot, or it just stop responding in windows software. I noticed that my 1 TB hard drive that I have been using with the help of a HDD caddy stopped showing in my computer, or when it was showing it had raw partition witch lead to data loss. I decided to replace the HDD caddy, because I have removed my 1 TB hard drive and tested it on another computer and it was fine, no bad sectors , no errors. I installed my hard drive into a brand new HDD caddy but I have the same problems like before, stuck at LENOVO logo, laptop freezes and sometimes my hard drive won't show up at all.I was forced to remove the HDD caddy and replace it with the original optical drive that came with my Lenovo laptop, but now the optical drive is not showing up in my computer, device manager and bios at all.So now I can use my optical drive and or a HDD caddy with my Levono laptop Is there any way to fix the ODD sata port on the MB ?PS: I have updated my bios today with the latest version from lenovo support site and restored defaults in BIOS, but no luck. I have unplugged and plugged the optical drive, but it is not working.

Hi  I bought a Lenovo G500 around a month ago (Windows 8.1, Intel Core i7 2.20 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Disk, Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter).  I have a problem related to wifi connectivity. When i'm at home, no problems with networking. But when i'm at the college, where network is public and realized with a proxy, my lenovo sees the network, but can't connect to internet because the network is "unidentified" and i have a "limited access". My other PC and my HTC One continue to work fine with the routers and access points placed in the college. I tried everything: reinstall wireless drivers, reset winsocks and ip, disable Windows and Comodo firewalls, disable the energy options of the network adapter... but nothing seems to change, and every time i have the same problem: nothing fixes the issue. If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful! Thanks

hi marcello33,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try this,

StepA.
Open Device Manager and check under Network Adapters,
Remember what brand you wireless is ex. Intel, Realtek, or Atheros
right click on it and click Uninstall.
Place a check on the Prompt that says Delete Driver Software for this device.
Now click the View option at the top of Device Manager and select Scan for driver changes.
Open Network adapters again right click and click uninstall driver
Now
On the same prompt for deleting the driver check if there is a check box still.

If yes Repeat the step until you don't see the checkbox anymore. then proceed to Step B.
If no Proceed to Step B,

Step B.
    Restart the computer.

Download and Install the driver below for what wireless you have
 Intel WLAN Driver
 WLAN Driver (Atheros, Broadcom, Realtek)

Restart the computer after installation and Reconnect to the wifi you're having issues with.

Let me know your findings
Cheers!
Solid Cruver

Hi all,  Had to swap out HDD few months back and did a fresh install of win 8.1 from a disk straight onto C drive . Leaving Lenovo recovery partition completely intact. Now have put HDD back into g500 but although after some probs will only boot to the windows stored on C drive and will not let me access any part of recovery partition ?Either via hard boot . Recovery options or even OKR via file explorer ?  Any guesses as to where I'm messing up and what is the easiest way to restore directly from factory setting partition please?  Any advice much appreciated . Cheers .

Dear Community, I have a G500 laptop (i5-3230M; 8 GB RAM, 1 TB SSHD, ATI HD8570M). I have multiple issues with that. On 19.04.2016 I was able to use my laptop without problems, after that I closed the lid. After around 1 hour I opened that again but already had the issues. My problems are the followings:- DVD-RAM disappeared from BIOS, however it is working fine (tested in another laptop.) In my laptop it is blinking, ejecting the tray and is rotating after inserting a disk but after a short period it stops blinking and rotating. I have found some topics already here, but there the problem was with the DVD-RAM, that is not the case by me.- SSHD stoped working as well (tested under Win 7 and Ubuntu; By Win 7 the disk recognized, however the partions were not visible and the disk management wanted to initialize the disk fist. By Ubuntu the disk was not visible in Gparted, but in Testdisk, however it said there is no partition on the disk and droped Read error by every cylinders. It seems something is blocking the reading. Testdisk showed me the capacity of the SSHD and the size of the used space as well!) The laptop was clean inside and wasn't hot. What could cause such problems and how can I fix it? Unfortunatly the warranty ended last November. If possible I would require solutions where I can at least access to my data on the SSHD. Thank you in advance!

A:Lenovo G500 multiple issues

Hi vasadam ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Initially best if you turn off the PC and remove  the optical drive , SSHD, and battery while unplugged from the ac adapter. Press down power button for 12 seconds to power drain . Return the battery and plug the adapter . Turn on to access the BIOS and F9 to load defaults F10 save and exit.  Shut down.

Connect back the optical drive and SSHD making sure that the contacts are good and then turn on to check on BIOS for both DVD drive and SSHD .

With the optical drive , if the BIOS still failed to detect it , most likely issue would be the contact between the drive and the motherboard .

For the SSHD , don't attempt to continue with Windows recommended fix and cancel it since it may do some changes with your data inside. Run diagnostics and similar hardware test for isolation.

For data recovery best that you get a service center if they would have other tools to back up for you.
Update us how it goes .

Regards

I decided to upgrade my BIOS today because of it being too obsolete.I downloaded it from the Lenovo website, i install it, the pc restarts and success! All fine right?Well, i shut down my pc, press the BIOS button (i guess it's a BIOS button i don't know what it's called) i select the BIOS and guess what, it asks for an admin/supervisor password, i really need to get into the BIOS and i can't because of some strange mistakes of Insyde or Lenovo.Maybe it's your fault, mine not becuase before the update i entered the BIOS to see if all was fine and it didn't ask me to enter a password. What can i do now?I'm really mad right now and i hope to get an answer soon. I've already tried to look for some ways to remove the admin password but the support for the Lenovo G500 is really poor.
