I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello all,
This is my 3rd time trying to upgrade to SP1 (I know SP2 is out but 1st I need to get SP1 sorted!) The other 2 times my computer frooze/messed up. This time, however, I downloaded it ok (from Microsoft updates) and rebooted the computer. Once it had loaded it said windows successful installed update. However it hasn't! When I enter 'winver' in the start box it mentions nothing of a service pack, and under properties on my computer it says nothing!

It says nothing on the windows updates to be installed because it told me it was installed successfully? I've rebooted again but nothing.

Help please!

Today I update my dad's laptop with vista service pack 1, and after logging on, the message, "a critical error has occurred and you computer will restart in one minute..." I turned the computer off and tried for a cold start, but again I got the same error message. During one of the reboots, a runtime error for roxio 10 appeared, but it only happened once out of about 12 restarts. However, a last week I updated my laptop with service pack 1 and had no problems. I was wondering the reason for this inconsistency, and should I try and reinstall sp1 again. When I updated my vista to service pack 1, my windows update did if for me, but when I run windows update for my father's computer, service pack 1 doesn't show up. I'm not quite sure what the problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there!

I just installed Vista Home Premium 64-bit and initiated a search for updates in Windows Update. The Windows Update itself needed to be updated first. But then it found 110 important updates, between 430,3 MB and 519,8 MB in size. But none of these is the Service Pack.

Is it necessary to install Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2? Or are the SP1 updates included in the SP2?
Do I have to install these 110 updates, before installing any Service Pack? Or are these included in the Service Pack?
How do you know what updates are included in a given Service Pack? Is there some kind of list you can refer to?
I'm just trying to figure out how to get this straight, what to install, when, in what order, etc. I want a smooth operating system, I'm sick and tired of problems related to software application and Windows updates. This is my first reinstallation of Vista in a little bit over 1 year. It lasted long enough, before it broke down. So I had to reinstall it.

My computer is about 7 months old. It is a Sony-Vaio laptop running on Windows Vista Home Premium, with all the latest Windows Update packs - except for Service Pack 1. I was notified only today via Windows Update that I could download it - I wasn't notified earlier. Anyway, I am not at all sure whether I should install SP1. I have read nightmarish stories about SP1 crippling computers so that they couldn't be booted, or that they functioned worse than before. Am I better off without SP1? And why did Windows Update notify me only now? I thought Service Pack 1 had been released in April 2008...? Also, the publishing the date of the service pack is indicated as 9th September 2008 on Windows Update. *confused look*

I cannot download this particular Windows update-Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330). I didn't figure that out until today when I went to reset Windows updates from auto to manual. When I looked at the log this file shows failed over and over from way back in 4/28/09until now.

So, is this file important? Should it be downloaded to my PC? If the answer is no then disregard the rest of this post. But if the answer is yes any help would be appreciated.
If yes, then I need some help. I am using the directions at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Windows-Update-error-80070002 to fix error 8007002.

But I get stuck at the double click on DataStore folder. I cannot gain access. I am using administrator.
Adobe can't read it. The message I get is-"Adobe Reader could not open DataStore.edb because it
is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged".

When I ran Filecure it indicated "no problems". So I am at a loss as to how to access the files so I can
delete them (per directions at link provided).

A:Solved: Windows Update Error 8007002-Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330)

Ok, a lot of you have looked at this question, but nobody has responded. Is it because it's not an important update? Or is it too old a problem (going back to 4/09)? Or some other reason? I can't believe no one knows the answer to my question since I've asked much more obscure questions in the past and gotten answers. So PLEASE, if someone could clarify what I'm dealing with I would offer techie sainthood upon you.

when i double click, nothing happens for 20-30seconds, then i get an error that the dr. watson (drwtns32.exe) has encountered an error. i then force shut down dr. watson via the task manager, the desktop icons disappear, and 10 seconds later all is back to normal. but i still can't open folders.

Service Pack 1 it gave me an error code 800706B5. So I tried manual installing it, it gave the same error.

Heres a screeny
I never had this error on my original HDD and I never had any problems updating it either. I did have Norton Security Suite installed ( Right after I formatted the new HDD ). I did uninstall it and tried it again ( Having Windows Defender up ) with the original default firewall setup and it failed with the same error code.

Any ideas? It'd be much appreciated.

I hope someone can help me. I am running Windows XP, but on trying to clean up my hard drive, I found a huge program "Windows Vista Service Pack 1.exe". Why would I have this when I am running XP?? I am scared to delete it in case it does some damage.

Some advice would be appreciated.

A:Windows Vista Service Pack 1?? for XP??

I don't see any reason that would be on your hard drive. It is quite possibly a virus or malware program of some kind. A downloaded file from Microsoft would not be named this way. Even if it were legitimate, it would do no good for you because you are running XP.

I think you can safely delete it. In fact, make sure to delete it from the Recycle Bin, too.

when i installed windows vista service pack 1 today, it asked me to restart my computer, everything seemed like it was going alright but when i clicked resart it was updating stage 1 out of 3, so i took a shower and came back and there was a black screen saying
"!! 0xc01a001d !! 27966/87644 (\Registry\machine\components\derivedData . . .)"
and the computer is completely nonoperational, when i shut down my computer manually, and start it up again, it gives me 2 options,
"Run repair mode" "start windows normally"
I clicked repair mode but it stays on a black screen which does not show anything but the dark abyss in which my dell has entered, if i click start windows normally it starts booting up and counting from 0/87644 but when it gets to 27966/87644 it stops and shows the same message.

Kia ora from New Zealand,

My laptop was taken back to factory condition almost four weeks ago, and all the Windows updates downloaded - which took hours!

The problem I am having is Windows Vista Service Pack 1 KB936330 wants to download yet again.
My Windows Update History shows this Service Pack was first downloaded successfully on 28 June, successfully again on 29 June, Canceled on 29 June, Successful on 29 June, Canceled on 9 July, Failed on 9 July, Canceled on 10 July. Should I let the Service Pack 1 Instal qagain, and perhaps delete the earlier versions - or what?

Another problem:
My laptop beeps then freezes. This has happend about five times since 28 June. Could this be related to the Service Pack problem? Or could it be a memory problem. My laptop is an HP Pavilion entertainment dv2000 series. I bought it in 2007 so it's a little oldie but a goodie.

Thank you for reading my post.

A:Windows Vista Service Pack 1 KB936330

The HP Pavilion dv2000 series laptop has several models, so we need to confirm which one you have.

Advise us what the product number(P/N) and/or model number(M/N) is that's on one of the stickers.

Does the factory restore install Windows Vista(original version) or Windows Vista SP1?

Depending on which one it does, you need to download and save the full SP1 and/or SP2 upgrades and then burn them to CD's or a DVD.

Once the factory restore is complete and the computer is restarted, you need to install the SP1 and/or SP2 upgrades.

Once the upgrade(s) is installed and the computer is restarted, you need to go to Windows Update, then download and install the important/recommended updates.

The goal is to get Windows Vista up-to-date before you start installing programs and extras in that computer.

Hello everyone,

I had Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed and windows update wanted me to install Service Pack 2. When installing using windows update, I was getting error code 8024200D. To get past this, I downloaded Service Pack 2 onto my desktop and installed. Everything worked fine, the computer rebooted showing that it was installing the 3 steps required.

The computer came up and I went to the Control Panel >> System and it still said Service Pack 1. A few minutes later the automatic update wanted me to install service pack 2 again. So I did. Each time it was successful. I reboot and the system still says service pack 1 even though my install history shows it installed service pack 2 successfully.

I tried the downloaded install from the desktop again and it comes up with a message that service pack 2 is already installed.

I tried the winver program and it shows service pack 1. I have looked on the internet for several hours now to find a solution and nothing appears.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have read that Service Pack 3 is relatively untested, and to not install it at this time. Unfortunately, I hadn't told my son, and when I did, he said he downloaded the update already. However, he always puts his computer on "hibernate" and hasn't yet "restarted" his computer, so we're still getting the message to "restart" to "finish installing important updates."

Is there anything I can do at this point to remove the service pack components? Or do you have any reassurance or further information about this service pack to make me feel better?

Thank you very much. We have a Toshiba Satellite A135 with dual-processors (1.73 each) & 1.0 G ram. I still consider myself a beginner level user & please send me an answer in primitive layman, if possible!!

A:Windows Vista Service Pack One Released!

It's been a while since I've been around.... but anyways...

Vista SP1 (for those who have been running Windows Update religiously, like myself) are not going to notice much of a difference in the way Windows Vista runs. You will in most cases notice file transfering from HDD to HDD or from one location on the HDD to another of the same HDD to be a bit speedier in initiation and termination after success.

For those who have been running the RC of SP1 are going to notice even smaller changes (like myself) who have been using RC1 since late December 07.

I look forward to what will come of SP1 and eventually SP2, which we all know will come.......

Hey guys,

I have just bought Grand Theft Auto IV for PC and after installing it, I was unable to play due to the error on game start up:- GTA IV FATAL ERROR: RMN 40.

After looking around the net I found out (and realized that it was written on the box) Windows Vista Service Pack 1 was required.

Now I currently have Windows Vista 32-bit Operating System Home edition installed. Because I have turned off Automatic Updates to automatically download updates, I am looking through the list and none of them seem to look like the Service Pack 1 update.

I have found which one to download on the Microsoft website but there's a link underneath it saying:

"DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is available on Windows Update"

When i click it it opens my Automatic Update Windows taking me back to my Automatic Update list.

So I'm asking if anyone could point out to me which one on the list is the Service Pack 1 to download as I have a tight download limit and wish to download the smallest file possible.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If anyone can also provide me with a link to download the update it would be appreciated, as I am not sure if the one I have is for 32-bit.

A:Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Question

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think windows update makes you download some updates first before it gives you the option for SP1 (thats if you do it through Windows Update), if you want to just get it done with, then install SP1 from the website.

-IE constantly freezes.
-Does not allow for add/removal of programs
-Very slow on start up (computer has dual core intel and 3gb of ram so it shouldn't be a hardware issue)
-Task manager will not open consitently.

I am trying to Uninstall Windows Vista Service Pack 2 64 bit after a number of programs do not open since this update.

I attempted to reverse this update through System Restore, but apparently all the restore points before the update may have been purged.

A:Uninstall Windows Vista Service Pack 2

Having you tried going to add/remove programs, and check the box that says "show updates"? You should then be able to see the update and delete it.

While surfing the internet wirelessly with my HP laptop ive noticed that almost every time, usually after an hour or so of problem free websurfing my internet connection grinds to a halt and i cant open or refresh any more webpages, the little green bar slowly fills up at the bottom of the pages indicating theyre loading but after an age it never gets anywhere and despite connecting/reconnecting i cant seem to get it to work and usually have to restart the computer again through frustration. Ive noticed that ive only really started having this problem since i downloaded the Windows Vista service pack 1 last weekend so i reckon this might be the cause in some way, maybe its conflicting with my firewall, anti virus or quicktime, its only the internet connection that seems to be affected although ive noticed my laptop also seems to take alot longer to shutdown/restart nowadays. im not sure however as i have limited knowledge of computers so was wandering if anyone else who has downloaded this upgrade has had similar problems or if anyone could shed light on what else it might be causing the problems and what i can do to fix it. Ive already sent a diagnostic and email for support form Microsoft but thought id try some technical forums while i await a reply. I realise its quite a vague question and this problem could be caused by any number of factors but i would appreciate any input none the less. thanks

Welcome to TSF - Vista.

I have been working on a users computer for a about a week now and have read about 100 posts on google. I am having trouble uninstalling Service Pack 2 from her Vista X64 machine. I want uninstall the service pack because it has created havoc for her computer. It constantly keeps rebooting at random times and shows a blue screen beginning to dump physical memory. Then when Windows boots back up it says it has recovered from a serious error. On average the computer reboots at least 4 or 5 times a day. I have tried to remove it from the control panel and it says "uninstall was not completed successfully." Her system restore date does not go back far enough, so I can not restore her PC before the SP2 was installed. Have tried all the steps from the following post: How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs as a troubleshooting step. The command line option just sits there for about 5 minutes and then returns to the C: prompt, it never asks me to reboot the system. Another technician installed the SP and he did not save the restore files. I have tried to download the SP 2 and place the file in C:\temp and uninstall through the command line but this also does not work. I am stuck and need help uninstalling service pack 2. The user also just purchased an HP printer office jet 6500 and have read online that HP printers have not had much success with Vista x64 systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, I do not want to reload the PC and I only have... Read more
