Lenovo Y510P Video Card Update issue [Windows 10]

Q: Lenovo Y510P Video Card Update issue [Windows 10]

The computer I used was '' Lenovo Y510P ''. There is a '' Nvidia GT755M [SLI] '' as a display card. I have tried both ways of downloading the video card driver from both GeForce Experience and Nvidia driver site. Both kinds of graphics cards are starting to update. Later, the 'graphic driver is installed' part of the screen goes and never comes again. I can not enter Windows when I turn off the computer. I have to take format from scratch. After formatting, Windows automatically loads a graphics card driver in 2017, trying to update the driver again, it stays black on the screen again. I have to format again. With DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) program, I deleted the old video card driver and updated it again. But I met the same problem.I communicated with Nvidia and stated that I had such a problem. They asked me not to install the 388.13 video card driver. That graphics card driver has been loaded without any problems. But I have the same problem with all the video card drivers out there.NOTE: This problem only happens on Windows 10. I can update the display board without any problems in operating systems like Windows 8,8.1.NOTE: I have been having this problem for about 2 months, before I could update my display card in Windows 10 without a problem. The driver I am currently using is: 388.13

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Situation: Currently deployed in Afghanistan with limited resources for my personal laptop. My windows 10 OS (Windows 8 came preinstalled on my laptop) stopped being able to boot up something about a config file missing. So my easiest option I could find was to downlaod UBUNTU onto a bootdrive from a buddys laptop. I installed ubuntu but want to know if theres a way of wiping my old Windows OS and getting it back? I could go back and find the error for the windows boot. But would honestly just like to wipe it and reinstall windows. I do not have a boot disc or product key that i know of for windows since it came preinstallled. Sorry if some of what i said was redundent! Appreciate any help!

I purchased my Y510P back in Q2 2014, it was already on Win 8 when I purchased it. Everything was working fine even after the  SLI issue with  Win 8.1 which was fixed through a BIOS update that was available here in their product support page. During that time I worked more on other things and didnt really notice anything about the GPU and its update. I was able to update my laptop to Win 10 (back in Q4 2015) and I'm currently unsure if it already installed the anniversary update. Recently, I tried some few games and noticed that the second GPU seems not be working during any games I've launched. I ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark and seems that the SLI is detected, checked the device manager both hardwares are detected, and updated to the latest GPU driver. But still seems to be not working. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello. I have a Lenovo Y510P notebook with sli GeForce GT 755M cards.Main 755m (soldered on the mainboard) - is broken, but ultrabay GT 755M still alive. The problem is that when an ultrabay card is inserted, the image starts to be output through the soldered broken graphics card.Is it possible to do so that with an inserted ultrabay video card the image would be output through the Intel integrated card, and 3D graphics would be processed by an ultrabay video card?

Hi guys, first post here. I've had my Y510P for a little over 2 years now, around last year I experienced an unexpected shut-off and the laptop became unresponsive for a few days (as I did not yet know a work around, could of gone back on immediatly as I later discovered). The problem is that, when the laptop eventually dies on battery power, if you plug the laptop into the mains and try to turn it on absolutly nothing happens and there is no sign of life. This is only resolved if the battery is removed, the mains power cord is unplugged at the wall and plugged back in, and the laptop is powered on via only main power. At this time the battery can be inserted into the laptop when it is already on and the battery will charge as normal and the laptop can be then unplugged and remain on until the battery dies again and the cycle repeats. I have purchased two replacement batteries and tried two seperate chargers and the problem is consistent, would love to hear if anybody has has/had this problem and managed to find a solution, if you need any more info please leave a reply. Many thanks

Hi all, I have some problems with my Y510P, hope you guys can help me and pointing me in the right direction. A while back in February I decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop. This was due to too much stuff on my PC and sometimes I would get random crashes (freezing at login-in screen from sleep, was the most common). Totally clean (no factory image reset (although I still have to partition) from USB disk created with Microsoft software). After that I installed the drivers, everything was working fine. When I put in the ultrabay GT755M, nVidia Geforce Centre could see two cards. Although I had actually no idea if the ultrabay card actually worked, in some games the air from that vent did get hottor.  Now the problems start:Yesterday I booted up my laptop, took some more time than usual. At login-screen I immediately noticed that the resolution had changed. I thought that was quite strange, it became even more strange when I got to the desktop. Strange artifacts would appear. So I opened Device Management in the configuration panel and it showed the 2 GT755M cards, one had a exclemation mark. It says: "this device has been stopped, problems have been reported, code 43". The Nvidia control panel didn't open and gave the message: "no display connected" which was quite strange, as my screen is still functioning. Also the sleep option disappeared from the start menu, I tried rebooting, didn't work.  After that I pulled out the ultrabay c... Read more

The main problem I would like to find out: is it software or hardware related? In the first case I can of course go back to the clean install of Windows 10 from 2 months ago or go back to Windows 8 (or 8.1) using the recovery partition. But if it is hardware related, that's useless. Anyway to find out?

Hello, I have a ?Y510P Leonovo Ideapad? and found out, that the mainboard contains an empty port-connector labeled with ?SSD?. A picture of this connector is in the attached image. I am planning to upgrade the Laptop with an SSD-card to improve system speed. Within this context I have a couple of questions, regarding the specifications of this port and suitable SSD-cards: Does this port both accept SATA as well as PCIe SSD-cards?Is there a limitation on the maximum memory-size of the installed SSD-card? Can I install a 256GB SSD-card? (For example ?Transcend MTS400 256GB SSD?) ?Can I partition the SSD-card in a way to fully install Windows 10 on it, making it the boot partition. The SSD-card should then be visible as a standard drive C:\ under Windows. Can I also install a second operating system (Linux) onto a second partition on the SSD-card, making it a dual boot system?I would be very happy, if anyone could help me with these questions, so that I can upgrade the laptop with the appropriate SSD-card and configuration. Thanks in advance,electron8000

Hey Everyone, I've recently noticed my laptop slowing as I played games like h1z1 on the lowest setting. Eventually, I would get error messages about my GPU when the game would crash. I noticed my drivers were out of date and SLI was also not enabled. I have since updated the drivers and enabled SLI but I still get many of the same problems.  The laptop has two GeForce GT 750M's. I downloaded MSI afterburner and it shows both graphics cards at 135/405MHz at rest. But while gaming, the second graphics card remains at that same amount and relatively the same temperature while graphics card number one goes to about 1058/2499MHz and 75-90 degrees C temperatures. I've also taken out the ultrabay with graphics card number 2 out and put it back in to make sure it wasn't loose. I honestly don't know what any of the data really means, but I'm really hoping to get this fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Let me know if I can provide any more information!

Hello,

I've recently installed Windows 10 on Ideapad Y510 and everything went well drivers and all, but I also did an bios update which I think bricked the laptop.
There was nothing but black on the screen, no bios beep or fan spinning.

After this I attempted a BIOS flash(Pulled the batter, plugged in the USB did the FN + R combo and after 30 seconds of BIOS beeps I get the attached screen).

Has anyone ever seen this before?

BSOD-xperts:
I've suddenly been afflicted with BSOD's on my Lenovo Y510P running Win 8.1. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago and then I started experiencing multiple BSOD's to the point that I had to boot in SafeMode. After doing some research, it looked like the issues were related to video (NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M) and wireless/bluetooth drivers. I upgraded all of those and everything was fine for a week until this morning when I got another BSOD. After looking for the bug check that it reported, I stumbled on this forum and saw some excellent responses so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I downloaded BlueScreenView and ran that and I've attached the output. I have also attached output from the MiniToolBox tool. I also tried to upload the mini-dump files but I get a message saying I'm "not permitted to upload this kind of file" but I'm happy to do so if I'm allowed to.  Here is a link the output from the Speecy tool as well - http://speccy.piriform.com/results/j7BzfFXyiX3xHgrhWQqHjXV. Would someone be so kind as to give it a look and let me know your thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Guys, I have Lenovo Y510P with Windows 10 and i recently installed a new MyDigitalSSD 256GB in the M.2 slot (instead of the 24GB cache ssd) and i'm using the ssd as my main drive for OS and programs. I'm getting reandom freezes during regular operation, I can still move my mouse duriing those freezes but that's it, it won't unfreeze unless I do an hard reset.. Those freezes happen only when the OS is running from the SSD, when I'm I run a copy of that OS from the HDD, it doesn' happen ad everything works. Before installing the ssd, every cache software was uninstalled and i even tried a fresh new clean win10 install on the ssd but the freezes still happens. I read and tried LOTS of solutions (checking for errors in the ssd, disabling SLI, disabling LPM, etc.) but nothing helps. I'm really desperate for a solution, Doesn any one has an idea on what is the problem?

what i understood is that slot you got there isnt meant for a big SSD :/ so thats probably why os freezes some times it's a cache slot meant for small sized ssd cache drives if understood it right.

Hi,

This problem has been discussed a lot, but I haven't seen any conclusive answer on how to fix my current problem. Please read -- you're help is greatly appreciated:

My friend bought an upgraded copy of XP and decided to upgrade his version of XP to a valid, registered copy (XP SP2). Upgrading anything is a nightmare -- he should have never done this. He has an ATI 9600SE Video card and uses 2 monitors. Ever since upgrading, the ATI driver is no where to be found, AND in Device Manager, there is NO node for "Display Adapter" -- it simply doesn't exist. After deleting every trace of any ATI video drivers on his system, I downloaded the latest version of the ATI catalyst software and tried reinstalling, but everytime I do this, I get the following error in the middle of installation:

Setup was unable to complete the installation.
Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup.

When I go to Display Property / Settings, there is no mention of a display adapter there -- (I couldn't use 2 monitors if I wanted, because there is no option to do so). When I go to advanced, the adapter is the "VGASafe" windows adapter. So, I think that the standard VGA adapter is ALREADY installed (it is DEFINITELY VGA resolution, so it has to be using a driver, and it must be using THIS driver, which I believe is windows' "standard VGA driver", is this correct?) First off, this is very random when this happens, sometimes every five minutes, sometimes every five days. Whenever I'm running a full-screen program other than an internet browser, my computer will freeze and then the display will completely distort forcing me to restart my computer. I have visually inspected the card, reseated it, cleaned the slot, tried it in a different one, new drivers, old drivers, but it still happens and only in Windows 7; not XP. I have narrowed it to my video card which is a BFG nVidia GeForce 6200 pci card with 256MB of RAM. I have done everything that I can think of and it still won't work.

Hello & welcome to TGF.

Which W7? 32 or 64 bit?

When did the problem begin? What changed; installation or removal of hardware or software; updates to W7; antivirus, other program?

Random issues are very difficult to troubleshoot, for me. Reads like you've done everything I would do.

XFX suggested, for a different issue I had:
download new drivers for graphics card
uninstall nvidia graphics, in control panel > prog & features > nVidia
Download driver sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
boot to safe mode
run driver sweeper
install new driver
boot to normal mode

So this morning I woke up like usual and start my laptop up. It took a while like usual to boot up then it went straight to the your computer needs restarting blue screen and I thought hmmm this happened a few times and usually gets fixed. This time it went not to the home lock screen but the trouble shooting blue screen after picking my language and type of keyboard. Then it goes to two options "advance options" or "shutdown" I go to advance settings then there were 3 more options. Refresh settings, reset settings or advance options so I chose refresh cause I didn't want my files to get erased since I haven't backed them up yet. I click refresh and a message says that my drive where Windows is installed is locked. And it told me to unlock it and try again. So how do I access this? I forced shutdown but the same thing happens for a few times. Now I'm worried about this problem. Can anyone help me before I actually have to reset my laptop?

Good evening, I will keep this short, I have a Lenovo ideapad y510p with Windows 8.1 (I got it with 8.1, did not upgrade from 8) . I noticed a problem yesterday, where I cannot adjust the screen brightness. If I use the keyboard commands (Fn + Up and Fn + Down) The slider appears on the top left of the screen, as always, but does not ?slide? It stays static.  If I move the slider on the Setting menu, I can slide the value but the brightness does not change and the value is not reflected on the slider on the top left of the screen. I am not sure when this happened for the first time.

So about a week ago windows update updated the video driver. Pc restarted and after it goes thru the boot screen the signal drops and thats the end of it. Reinstalled from disk, after you make all your choices and tell it you dont want 10 it starts updating. Reboot, video gone again. Reinstall without internet. Stays working. Put online, dont even check for updates. Beep beep, driver update. Video gone.
How can I get into VGA mode since they got rid of safe mode choices. Only option I can get on this computer is in the bios. Cant get it to cycle into any type of repair or anything like that as it thinks all is fine.
Also as a side note, its a HP that is digital dvi only. Guessing its something to do with that fact.

I have a Dell 8300 that is several years old. I (regretfully) opted for the free Windows 10 when it came out a few months ago. Despite it having some issue fully installing and running correctly, I have otherwise not had any issues until the last few days. I’ll say now that I also have 2 monitors which have never given me issue, one hooked up by HDMI and the other by traditional monitor cable.

This all started by appearing to not fully boot up. From a restart, the screen would be black which lead me to believe something was occurring that would prevent it from fully booting to my homescreen/desktop. Thinking I had inadvertently got a virus, I tried to boot in Safe Mode so that I could troubleshoot and if needed revert to a previous System Restore point. I had a *** of a time even getting into Safe Mode...only one out of every 5-10 hard resets would get to the blue screen when pressing F4, and once there, I would not allow me to do a restore point. I tried System Restore to one point, which said it failed, so I tried another, which failed, and another etc. It also would not complete the Startup Repair. It would give some type of error that it could not complete those tasks. I did not want to do a full system Reset/Refresh because I don't want to lose my personal files.

Selecting the option to boot in Safe Mode appeared to be doing the same thing where it would load to a black screen which again made me think it was locking up somewhere in the load process which nor... Read more

A:Lenovo y510p Windows 8.1 Safe mode won't boot.

I'm wondering if the graphics adapter used on the computer is not compatible with the generic VGA drive Windows 8.1 uses for safe mode. Has the driver for the graphics adapter ever been updated? I noticed this on the specs. If you have the model with the two adapters, it's possible they conflict with the safe mode video driver. I saw a post where the computer had both an Intel and Nvidia adapter.

I'm not sure it would make a difference but what happens when you disable Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS. Does it let you access safe mode then?

Hello Lenovo community, I really need your help, and I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone. Just a couple days ago, my computer crashed while I was playing a video game. The graphics for the game are not that intese, but recently I've been having issues while playing it. After it crashed, I powered it off like i usually do when there is a graphical error and went to reboot it. Upon reboot it no longer worked like normal. The reboot was very slow, and when i tried to log in, it either goes to the password screen but won't work, or it goes black, or it stays semi frozen on the log in screen. I tried to enter failsafe mode, and reset BIOS, and full clean my Drive:C, and reinstall windows, and all that nonsense. When i try those methods they boot as if its going to work, load for a bit, get to around 40% done and then it quits out saying that there was a problem. So not only can I not log in, but I cannot even use the any normal methods for it to fix itself it seems. Thanks for reading.

Hello, For more than a year now, I have been using my Lenovo laptop without any problems (Model: 500-15ACZ Laptop (ideapad) Serial Number MP10L224 Machine Type Model 80K4001MUS with Windows 10-64Bits.) About 2 days ago, Windows 10 pushed an update. Since then, I have the following problem: whenever I boot the machine, it works fine for a couple of minutes and then, while working, the screen unexpectedly turns blank and the computer restarts without any warning. After restarting, the machine works fine for the rest of the day. This has already happened 2 times and, needless to say, it is worrysome to have a computer that can crash at any minute unexpectedly. Have any one been experiencing the same problem with this latest Windows 10 update? Would anyone have a solution? Thanks,BFonseca

Is there anything reported in the Windows Even Logs when that happens?    Also check the C:\Windows folder for any recent MEMORY.DMP files that would indicate Widows is crashing (BSOD), and check for any updated drivers via Lenovo Companion, or manually from https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/.

Hello, all together, I own a Y510p which has no Windows installed (Ubuntu 14.04 only). Due to some problems with the newest bcmwl modules, I wanted to update my bios (currently: v. 3.05). My question is: Is there a recommended / tested way to update the bios without installing a Windows? E.g.: is there a bootable iso-image that I didn't find? Or, is it possible to use FreeDOS for this task? I'd be happy if someone could give me as precise information as possible on this issue. Thx in advance.

I am also facing the same issue but i have a different model. It's Y700 15ISK. Please provide a solution to this, as my laptop's keyboard is getting freezed frequently and while going throught the community, only solution i got is to update my BIOS.

I have a Pro Book 455 G1.  The laptop has 4 GB of memory and plenty of disk space.  I have run diagnostics and Antivirus software and SFC.exe just to ensure things were at least okay. This laptop would not display through it's VGA output to a Smart board projector.  I looked at the version of the Video driver and noticed that it was a generic Win 7 video driver.  I selected update driver and it did update.  The system then rebooted and that was the start of the problem.  When the system came back up I got as far as " please wait" being displayed and that is where it stayed... For 6 hours (I walked away for a while doing other things). I loaded a last known good configuration and it was back to the begining.  I tried downloading the AMD catalyst driver to my thumbdrive this time and running the installer.  Same results, "Please wait". These systems are AMD A4-4300M, 4GB 1600-MHz DDR3 with AMD Radeon 7420G, HDMI, VGA adapter Any sugestions?

Hi there, i just recently upgraded to windows 7, i used to use vista. After installing windows 7 i am trying to play " World of Warcraft " and i need to update my drivers, but i don't know the actual drive.

It says it is a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and i have been all over google trying to figure out what i could do to figure it out so i can download the new drivers so i can start playing my game.

Any help is greatly appriciated, i also have a question about my other laptop ( This device i am playing on is also a laptop ).

The question for the other laptop is, It was running fine a few days ago, and i had turned it off for about 2-3days. When i went to turn it back on today it wouldn't start up and it was continousouly beeping.

I put my windows 7 cd in it to "Format" and i accidently ended up installing like 6 different Windows 7 OS in the one, ( I have like 5 folders of windows.old 0001 etc )

Now the laptop sometimes starts up to desktop when the cd is in the laptop, but it wont start up when it is not inside, it just continously beeps, I looked a few things up online and read it could be my processor ( Or just dust/heating issues, but i have it on a cooling pad already )

Any help with both problems is GREATLY appriciated. Thank you in advance

A:Just upgraded to Windows 7 and forgot my Video Card So i can't update

Go to device manager > Double Click the 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' > Click Details Tab > Select Hardware IDs from the properties Drop Down > right Click the Top Value > Copy > Then Paste it Here

Hardware Identification

Should look something like this: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1200&SUBSYS_56A11ACC&REV_A1

Thanks

Hello,Let me start off and say that I own a Lenovo T410, T420, T430, T480 and several other machines, and I am very familiar with these devices, and my primary operating systems are Windows 7 and OpenSUSE linux OS. As required by my employer, I bought a new laptop, Lenovo T480 which came with W10Pro (cannot downgrade) and installed an OpenSUSE KDE. In the beginning the T480 on W10 worked smoothly, but after one of the automatic updates, my sound system isn't working properly anymore. Before the update, I could have a dual channel sound output meaning, on W7 I could use "Realtek Audio Manager" to choose that I will have different volume setting for: 1. Machine speakers.2. Headphones if/when plugged in. This would prevent my laptop for blasting sound to the room through the speakers if I accidentally unplugged the headphone. This is a crucial feature to me as I am often connected to a meeting and I sometimes like to listen to music while working. This feature is gone. I have it working on the linux side, it is definitely driver/OS problem, not hardware. First, Lenovo T480 +W10 never came with realtek audio manager support.Second, I cannot download it seperately, and I somewhat get a buggy "resolution" if I downgrade where the mute button sticks. I am wondering if someone was able to solve this.Thank you for your time.-SJLPHI

Alright so here is the story/problem. I was going to bed a couple nights ago and everything was working fine, I saw that windows was doing an update so I put the computer in hibernate and went to bed, woke up and turned the computer on...All of the sudden my computer is running off of my onboard graphics instead of my video card. So I researched the problem and found that I had to disable it in bios, disable it in device manager and switch around my ram slots...did that..restarted the computer..nothing...so I decided to restart the computer again and then windows said it couldn't configure an update so it's reverting back...after that my video card magically started working again...BUT I forgot to turn automatic updates off so the next time I restarted my computer the updates went forth and now it's running off of my onboard graphics card again. I have not been able to revert it. I have tried uninstalling the updates but that doesn't work either. I don't have windows install discs so I can't re install windows. Any ideas? Thanks

I recently updated my Intel HD to 7/3/2012, the only problem I seem to have is that windows update keeps bugging me to install a older 2010 version, why is it doing that and should I just ignore it.

A:windows update keeps offering older video card driver

Hello Raymond,

If you are sure that you have the correct and latest driver for that device installed, then you could just hide the update to not see it anymore until the next new (cough) one is released.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Dell Precision M6600 ATI video card stopped working (blank screen on startup).
It was disabled in Windows 10 device manager.
In this case Windows 10 Base video driver with Intel HD graphcis 3000  is probably used.
Upgrade to Windows 10 Anniversity Edition (build 1607) fails with blank screen and error 0xC1900101 – 0x30018
C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log shows that Upgrade installs ATI drivers from c:\AMD directory. Maybe it tries to run ATI driver, ATI driver does not respond and this causes update to fail.
How to disable ATI video card so that Annniversity update does not find it ?
Thare are no options about this in Dell BIOS.
