cna't remove printer drivers from windows xp

Q: cna't remove printer drivers from windows xp

I have two unused printer drivers in windows xp, home edition that I can't remove. My software programs wnt to keep degaulting to them and since the printers don't exist, I am unable to print. When I go to control panels, printers, the icons for these two printers are still there, with the word under them "deleting" in light gray text. I have tried removing in safe mode, and that doesn't work either. Suggestons?

Preferred Solution: cna't remove printer drivers from windows xp

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: cna't remove printer drivers from windows xp

In control panel cick on view then customize and check description bar. You should then see a red pc icon with an x through it. Click on it and select to delete the printer then reboot.

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bit), but now my Lexmark All-In-One X74-X75 printer drivers aren't compatible... well, kind of.

When I first reinstalled the drivers after the upgrade, I was able to use the scan facility of the printer, and print jobs could queue up for printing, but they would not print. When I attempted to update drivers, uninstall/reinstall, etc, I was told the installation was unsuccessful.

I could not find any drivers for my model printer on the Lexmark site, but I was hoping someone out there may have some tips on how I can get around this problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:Printer drivers compatible with Windows 7

That is an old printer, there are no W7 drivers available for it, time for an upgrade.

I just set up my new Dell with Windows 7. I connected it to my Brother MFC-8840D printer with a USB connection. Windows 7 recognized the printer and set it as default. But I cannot print anything. I called Brother, and the person said that the proper driver was in the computer. However, she then sent me an email which indicated that Brother does not offer a driver for this unit with Windows 7, but that an appropriate driver can be found on Windows Update. I had no success going to Windows Update. Does anyone have an idea (short of having to buy a new printer)?

A:Windows 7 and Drivers for a Brother Printer

I'd try to get clarification from the tech support person about getting a working driver via Windows Update, and why it didn't work for you.

If Brother has a Vista driver try that.

Or try the Vista or XP driver using the Troubleshoot Compatibility option (assuming you have a self-installing executable right click on it to get that option). You can spend the better part of an afternoon with the "recommended" settings, and with XP or Vista with various service pack levels. Oh, and sometimes this works. Start reading from post # 18 in this thread to see how this technique worked for some USB wireless adapters.

I had installed a HP color laser 3600 printer in Windows 7, but as HP has not provided drivers for this printer, it is not functioning.

I have an HP Inkjet printer that is still running fine. When viewed through the control panel, it has a large "i" next to the printer and when I run the trouble shooter, it finds nothing wrong and also shows that the "device is working properly".

When I right click this printer and select properties, it does not offer the same options as all the other printers and devices. It does not offer a "remove device" choice.

I reinstalled the printer this evening and now have two shown in the control panel. One with the "i" and the other without. The one without offers the "remove device" option.

How can I remove that apparently corrupted printer?

I am not able to update drivers or anything else that might be needed to corrrect it.

I am running Windows 7 Professional.

I have a USB multifunction laser printer. It is a Fuji Xerox CM205 f. I want to use printing and scanning.

I have the Win8 installation software from Fuji Xerox. The installation instruction says to connect and turn on printer and then install the software.
But I read that, when you connect a USB printer, Win8 will install the drivers. When then I install the Fuji Xerox software, then there are 2 printer installations?

So how should I do this?
Is it generally better to use the Win8 drivers? If yes, then I only have printer drivers and not the scan function.
Or should I use the Fuji Xerox installation. If yes, should I uninstall the Win8 drivers first before installing the Fuji Xerox software?

A:Printer install: drivers from Windows or from manufacturer

Installing the vendor's drivers should override the windows installed drivers. The vendor's drivers are needed for full functionality as you have found out.

I did that with all of the drivers in my system. I installed Win 8 and it installed the generic HD Audio Codec for the windows drivers and several other generic drivers. After installing Win 8, I installed the drivers from my motherboard vendor and it replaced the windows installed drivers with the motherboard vendor drivers.

I helped a friend upgrade his work computer from Windows 7 to 8. It mostly all went well except for two problems:

1. It doesn't want to run login scripts for their Windows SBS 2011 server, and
2. It won't recognize any printer we try to install.

I unjoined it from the network, and deleted the computer from the server, so now there shouldn't be any conflict with the server...

The first printer we tried to get to work was an HP P1006, and when we didn't have any luck, we tried a brand new Brother HL2270DW, but we STILL cannot get it to work, even though Brother tech support said it should.

Here's the last thing I tried: I went to devices and printers, click on any printer device, and
then "Printer server properties" at the top...
then go to drivers tab,
then click "Add..." which brings up the Add Printer Driver Wizard,
then click Next, and
then Next again for only x86 drivers,
then click the "Windows Update" button, and
then, after a pause, I select Brother on the left,
then "Brother HL-2270DW Series" on the right,
then click next,
then click Finish, and...

I get an error that says

Driver Installation Error
Windows can't instal the Brother HL-2270DW series kernel-mode print driver. To obtain a driver that is compatible with the version of windows you are running, contact the manufacturer.

Kernel mode driver? Straight from Windows Update? What's up with that?

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks in advance,

A:Can't install any printer drivers, even from Windows Updat

Do you have a driver disc for the Brother? Its best to install devices using the vendor supplied drivers (either download or disc) than the way you are doing it. If you have a Vista or Win 7 driver it should be Win 8 compatible. However, if you only have an XP driver you can try installing it using the XP compatibility mode.

The same goes for the HP printer.

In most cases when installing devices such as a Printer, you FIRST run the vendor's installer and then only physically connect the device when the install program tells you.

I have a network user and before Christmas I installed a new desktop PC with Windows 7 professional for her.

Setup and installation went smoothly until just recently. In the last 2 months, the PC "loses" the printer drivers for our Nashuatec MP 3300 multifunction office printer.

The printer still shows as installed in the Control Panel but the status shows as "Printer: Needs new driver". I then have to install the new drivers from the print server using my admin credentials. The PCthen retains the drivers until the next day when it loses them again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, I have used a Mac most of my life and just got a new laptop today with Windows 8 on it and I am struggling, ANYWAY, I just plugged in the USB cable from my printer to the laptop and pressed print on a word document and it prints but im pretty sure its using coloured ink to print out the black and its taking forever just to print one page, the thing is the printer setting/options seem to be lacking, there is no option to choose black and white or reduce the quality etc, i didn't have to download drivers because it just picked the printer up, however, i tried to download the drivers to to see if that would fix the problem but it won't let me, when i got into the control panel to the printer i tried to click on download drivers but i get an error window pop up called RunDLL with a message saying There was a problem starting C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3\ep0nb0lb.dll The specified module could not be found.

Then when i try to click on 'support' again i get an error message saying the link is incorrect.

When i went to the epson website and downloaded the drivers, it downloaded them but when i clicked on them it wouldn't let me open them, another error message...

I dont know my way around these windows computers so its probably something everyone knows except me : )

I experienced some sort of driver conflict that prevent Windows 8 Pro from starting, so I did a Refresh. Didn't understand how that worked, so I got the nasty surprise that all my desktop programs and drivers were uninstalled.

So I've been reinstalling everything and just when I've finally got everything else in order I find out I can't install any printer drivers at all, despite being Windows 8 certified drivers. Not even PDFLite.

I get the message "error while testing for existing printer" followed by message "printer installation error -1001 (0)".

What's up with Windows 8 refusing all my print drivers? :(

A:Can't install any printer drivers on Windows 8 after refresh

Next time, you might have better luck using System Restore, using a restore point from before the driver conflict. System Restore can be started from the Windows 8 Recovery Environment by selecting the Troubleshooting option, then selecting System Restore. You likely rebooted into the Windows 8 Recovery Environment when your system wouldn't restart successfully.

The Windows 8 Recovery Environment is also available when booting your computer from a "repair disk" CD or DVD (you can type "recdisc" into the Search box available from the magnifying glass icon on the Windows 8 "Charms" bar, and then select the "recdisc.exe" icon to create such a disc). You can also create bootable USB from the "create a recovery drive" icon: type "Recovery" into the Search box, then select "Settings", then select the "create a recovery drive" icon.

The advantage to using System Restore is that most programs won't have to be reinstalled (and your personal files are kept safe, as well).

It looks like I have to reformat my hard drive again but before doing so I
have two questions:

1) Will the drivers still be on the hard drive after formatting.

2) I have two partitions
a) Disk O,partition 1,System Reserved
b) Disk O,partition 2,Windows 7

Do I have to format both partitions

Formatting removes everything off the hard drive, so yes drivers too.

Instead of formatting, just delete both of the partitions and let the Windows installation create them both for you automatically.

I currently have an AL-1540CS printer that's hooked up to the USB port of my PC. I went to the official SHARP Website to search for the drivers of it and I downloaded them. The problem is whenever I try to install the drivers it says:

"The installer has detected an unsupported operating system. This software can only be installed in the following operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista"

After it shows this message it just closes. I tried using it with compability mode, but it won't work either with any settings. I contacted SHARP, but no answer from them yet.

Any help?

A:Printer drivers not installing on Windows 7 due to compability issues.

This is SHARP's response:

"Thank you for contacting Sharp Electronics Corporation.

Currently, there is no software available for your copier that is compatible with Windows 7. We do have the software CD available for purchase, however, this will only work with Windows XP. We have no timetable on the release of any software at this time."

I have 100 windows 7 pc's on this network and only 1 pc is having this problem with 2 printers.  For 6 months now I have been googling and trying to fix the issues with 2 of her 5 printers showing "offline".  All printers are installed
the same way via the server here on site.  And only 2 of them are continually having this issue.

I have changed SNMP
All the printers are on a static IP already
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printers via the server
I manually deleted the ports and reinstalled them manually using add printer/add port wizard
I have deleted the print queue and restarted print spooler on both her machine and my server
I reinstalled the print spooler on the local machine
I updated to the most recent manufacturers drivers for the printers

The printers in question are a Xerox 7800 and a Kyocera 5050 copier/scanner.  Al these printers are working and operatin fine on every other machine on the network here even while this one machine is showing offline.  I am at wits end with this
issue.  We have 2 of us in IT that serve this office and 7 remote offices to the tune of 300 employees (i know, its ridiculous), and I do not have an easy way to just rebuild her machine as we are swamped/this is a production machine/i dont have a temp
machine that I can put her on that will have all the applications she will need.  If someone has some magic they can send in a box I would be beyond grateful.

My Mom has an HP laptop. She recently purchased a new HP printer and I have been trying for the last 4 days to get it to install/connect. I've been in touch with HP but the links they provide aren't resolving the issues.

First, using the CD that came with the printer: hangs up at around 85-90%. It doesn't not show up as installed. I copied the CD to the desktop, modified Setup.exe in CFFExplorer and Run as Administrator and it appears to completely install; however, when I go to Device Manager, it says no driver is found. I sometimes have the option to update and sometimes that seems to work but I can't access it through Add a Printer (which has the green bar run across the top, then pulsate and freeze).

Trying to install using the driver I download from HP results in no installing screen appearing but it does hang up in the background and the only way to stop it is to Restart. The same thing happens if I try to use HPs Wizard.

I've installed several HP printers through the years and not had this much trouble. That doesn't even include the dozens of times I've had to reinstall my own HP printer because of its contrariness!

Additionally, attempts to uninstall the old printer results in it hanging up/freezing soon in to the process, whether I try to uninstall from the Start menu, file or Uninstall program. I'm not even being able to get the Windows Updates to install - that process also just hangs up/freezes. FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while so there are ma... Read more

A:Unable to install printer drivers, uninstall old printer, update Windo

Hi columbia93, welcome to 7F!

Printers are touchy animals, when installing any printer you have to follow the install procedures exactly as described by the manufacturer.

This may be the root cause:

FYI - I've not checked her machine in a while

Not that you haven't been able to check it, but there may be an accumulation of problems on your Mom's machine that also are stopping the update process.

I am trying to find one of 7F's tutorials on improving performance of a computer, but it boils down to cleaning out all detritus that a machine can accumulate of a period of time.
I did find this but there is another one: Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover The first three options would help

Run Antimalware/virus scans, run a Check Disk then a sfc /scannow then try to uninstall that old printer driver, and if that works shut down the machine, and try to install the printer without the HP disk, when it looks, but asks if you have the disk say no and allow the OS to install what it has.
It is my understanding that HP Printer drivers already come with Windows 7.

But do the cleanup first and see if that helps.

How to uninstall a driver completely from the Windows 7 system so that Windows 7 automatically picks up latest driver files from Internet?

Here is a screenshot of my motherboard details.
Screenshot of my graphic cards details.
I came across the problem when I attempted to update to AMD catalyst 12.8. I have both integrated (ATi Readon HD 3000) and discrete (AMD Readon HD 6700 Series) graphics installed on my pc. After the installation of Catalyst 12.8 I received some errors.

On my IGP the wrong display driver was installed AMD 760G. The display would not work even when I restarted the computer with just one display attached to it.

On my dicrete graphics I received two error messages:

1. "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

When I restarted my pc I got:

2. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Only one of my displays was working (the one attached to the discrete graphics) even though it was the one showing the error message. I uninstalled both drivers via Device manager but windows would reinstall them automatically and I still got the same problem.

I figured the problem was with the Catalyst version I installed so I did a system restore. Everything was reverted back and working as usual. I decided to update the display drivers using windows via the device manager and that's how I discovered the problem.

A:How do I completely remove previous drivers that are hidden by Windows

kimgitz welcome to the Seven Forums.

The problem is that the integrated HD 3000 has be relegated to legacy status, and as a result there is no support for it in the Catalyst 12.8. Also why the 12.6 works.

Are you even using the onboard video? From your specs you list two monitors, which your HD 6700 (6750 or 6770) is more than capable of running both of if you have one of them connected to the onboard. Then you can just disable the onboard.

Furthermore my motherboard's chipset model is 780G not 760G

Actually it is the 760G,

AMD 760G Chipset

AMD 700 chipset series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If it really was the 780G, it would have the HD 3200 on it (used to have a board with it).

Hi guys,

Kind of annoying problem here... I have an HP LaserJet 1200 hooked up via USB to a Mac that is running 10.5 (Leopard). For the printer's first 5 years or so everything was great. I could get new computers set up to print to the printer with no troubles, until recently.

Recently, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 and wanted to get the printer working again. I attempted to install the printer using the HP LaserJet 1200 PCL 6 printer drivers. It connected to the printer alright, but every time I printed it came out with a PCL XL Error: "Error: UnsupportedProtocol" instead of my document.

Now, every time I try to connect a new computer (Windows 7 or Windows XP, doesn't matter) the printer automatically installs the PCL 6 driver for the printer... which always prints out an error instead of the document I want. I can't find a way to manually choose the driver when I'm adding it because it's a network printer, not one that's locally hooked up.

I tried installing the PCL 5 driver manually, but the printer still ONLY wants the PCL 6 driver that gives me the errors. I tried to go to "Server Properties" while in Printers and Faxes to roll back the PCL 6 driver, but Windows can't find a driver to roll it back to.

Now, if I physically hook the printer up to the computer via a USB cable, it installs the PCL5 Driver and it works... but that's only when it's plugged directly in.

I'm extremely frustrated a... Read more

I use Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. My problem is: Whenever I try to print something (word, pdf, or any other file); printer spooler stops working and when I check the “Devices and Printers” all the printer drivers seem to be disappeared.

I checked the “Print Spooler” in the “Services” tool; and set the "Recovery after subsequent failures" option to “Restart the Service”. Therefore all the printer drives coma back after 1 minute. However the spooler stops immediately again when the uncompleted printing job starts; hence I can not print anything more than a page.

Earlier in this forum, someone posted that Microsoft issued a hotfix for this problem ( hotfix 2388142) which can be downloaded from article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142.

I did uninstall and reinstall all the printer drives, but this did not help either.
Any suggestion?

A:Printer spooler keeps stopping and printer drivers keep disappearing

Yeah, I had the same issue. Even when I went into services and restarted it, it would shut back down and the printers would disappear. I tried working with the registry like a few suggested, but didn't help. The only fix that worked for me was to go back about a week on the restore point, and then all the printers reappeared and worked...

I downloaded this hotfix and tried to install, however it gives an error message of: ?The update is not applicable to your computer? and quits installation.

I did uninstall and reinstall all the printer drives, but this did not help either.

First off, I have Windows XP.

For example, I have an older video card in my system now because I have to send my better card in for warranty repair.

I had upgraded to Direct x 9 and now I want to go back to 8.1. How do I revert or remove Direct x 9?

Also, what is the best way to install video drivers? I heard awhile back you should boot into safe mode or something?

A:What's the BEST way to install video drivers , new Direct X,and remove older drivers?

This method works best for me. First off, I use Norton Ghost 2003 to make an image of my Windows drive. When I make this image, I have already installed WinXP SP1 plus all the latest Windows updates I can get. Also, I have already installed useful and necessary programs like Norton Antivirus 2002, ZoneAlarm Firewall, NoAds, Analog X Cookiewall. I make sure that I don't have any videocard drivers installed. As for Direct X, it's the default one installed when you first install WinXP.

Now that I have the image, I go on and try installing new Direct X versions or new videocard drivers. If something goes wrong and messes up my system or I'm not happy with the performance of the new drivers or Direct X, I use Norton Ghost 2003 to restore my image. By restoring the image, I have everything back--WinXP SP1 + all updates, programs I've installed, etc. The process only takes about 4 minutes compared to reinstalling Windows + all the programs manually (3-5 hours).

With the image backed up to that original point, I try alternative drivers or Direct X files until I find a setting I like.

This is the way I test new Detonator drivers and Direct X files. It's fool-proof and makes me more bold in trying out new stuff.

If you need more background on the benefits of Ghost 2003 and its usage, check out this guide at Radified.com:

Hope that helped.

BTW, if you remember the date that you installed Direct X9.0, you might be able to go bac... Read more

I work in IT doing Help Desk/Support for a company.

We want to give standard users restricted assess to a printer. If they are a manager they can print in colour, but if they are just a standard staff member they only get the option to print in black & white.

An example would be using a black & white driver for a colour printer. People who print to the Black & White device driver won't have the option for colour.

Is this possible and how so using Windows 10 & 7.

Thank you.

A:Creating two different printer drivers on the same printer?

I'm a Windows 7 person, however, perhaps I can give an educated guess. For the managers, create a color printer using the printer's provided drivers [or let Windows Update get them]. For the standard user, create a black and white printer coming as close to the specs of the color printer as possible. Let's say Zumba 2000A is the color printer. Give the managers Zumba 2000A. Give the standard users Zumba 1000A, the black and white printer. You will need to test from standard users' computers to see if this idea will work for each standard user. For a different reason, I did that once. I "created" an HP Laser Series II "printer" [which WU generously supplied the drivers for] , then installed my Brother HL-1440 [again WU generously provided the drivers for this printer also]. Solved my printing problem. Awhile later, finally, I was able to jettison both printers and just install the Brother printer correctly.

I have a newly purchased HP Deskjet 3050A e-All-in-One Printer series - J611 which should be working with Windows 7, but when I try to install the device drivers I get a "Access is denied" error.

How can this be bypassed or fixed?

A:Cannot install HP printer drivers - "Access is denied" in Windows 7

Exactly how are you installing the driver?

Make sure the printer is switched off and is not connected by a USB cable.

When you attempt to install the driver, right-click it first and choose Run as Administrator. During the install, you'll be prompted when to switch the printer on and connect it.

You also need to make sure you are installing the 32-bit version of the driver as you have Windows 7 32-bit.

Hello i Have the above problem while I try to share a printer on a domain network.
My windows firewall (localy) is also damage, is that the problem that I have to solve first?

Windows 8  - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties  [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved.  There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.   [OK]

A:Windows 8 - cannot share a printer error message appears "[Window Title] Printer Properties [Main Instruction] Printer settings could not be saved. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. [OK]

You may need to reinstall the printer. Remove the printer driver from Control Panel\Programs and Features, then add the printer from Devices and Printers.

Please note that if the printer driver is not in the list in Devices and Printers, I suspect that the printer is currently not compatible with Windows 8. In this case I suggest you contact the printer manfuacturer for more information.

Help! Bought a Lexmark X5495 all in one printer and when I try to install the driver I keep getting 'the printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your cvomputer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers'. Does any one know what this is and how to disable this thing? Have disabled Norton (the usual suspect!!) and I have also thrown the box away so cannot return to store!!

Printer Driver Is Not Compatible If a Policy Is Enabled on Your Computer
To work around this behavior, use either the appropriate method:
Method 1
If you are installing a Windows NT 4.0 print driver, contact your network administrator to have the policy removed.
Method 2
If you want to install a non-Kernel mode driver locally for a remote network printer:
1. In Control Panel, double-click Printers and Faxes.
2. Double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer Wizard, and then click Next.
3. Click Local printer, click to clear the Automatically detect and install check box, and then click Next.
4. Click Create a new port, and then under Port type, click Local Port.
5. For Port Name, type the path to the printer in the form of \\server\printer, where server is the name of the print server and printer is the name of the printer.
6. Click Next, and then choose a Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 driver for your printer.
7. Click Next, and then follow the instructions to finish the wizard.
Note: If you use method 2, you will not get printer updates from the print server when the printer driver is later updated on the server.

I'm looking for printer drivers for a HP LaserSet II Compatible to be used on a Window NT 4.0 platform.

Anyone know where I could locate them??

I have looked at Hewlett Packard site, Windrivers.com and DriverHQ's.

First of all are you sure it is a LaserSet and not LaserJet?

Anyway I had a similar problem a couple of days ago with a Canon HP 540 inkjet. There were no drivers for it either.
I finally bit the bullet and called HP at their technical support line. For two dollars a minute they solved the problem for me.

I have a Panasonic KX-FMC230 Fax/Scanner. It's a couple of years old and Panasonic no longer supports it. When I upgraded from WinMe to WinXP, the Panasonic printer drivers no longer worked. I searched the net and found some drivers for this device with software called Pana Link. I installed them and they worked fine for a while. At some point they stopped working, and I don't remember why. A couple of days ago I decided to re-install the Pana Link software (this is an auxillary printer; my main printer is an Epson Stylus Scan 2000 on a USB connection). Everything seemed to install correctly, but when I tried to print on the Panasonic I got the error message that this document has failed to print. I went into the Device Manager and clicked on Ports, and then double clicked on COM1, which is the port I had assigned this printer to (the Panasonic is connected to the computer with a serial cable). I clicked the Driver tab and then Update Driver. I then selected Install From a List or Specific Location. Then I selected Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install. There were two choices under Model. Both of them were labeled Communications Port. I selected the lower of the two and clicked OK. Now when I tried to print on the Panasonic, everything went fine. The problem is, I have to go through this every time after I turn the computer off and then on again (every day). Apparently, WinXP defaults to the driver that doesn't work. Is there a way to avoid thi... Read more

Try booting into safe mode and deleting any duplicate instances of the driver or printer. Look both in the printers folder and device manager.

Try not to use all caps when typing. It is very hard on the eyes.

BJC2100 for XP This is the link straight to the download.

If you prefer, go directly to Canon's download site and get it there. You will have to do that for the other printer, as there is nothing listed for a plain BJC printer.

I see you edited your message to include the other printer, the 5100. I could not find a driver for XP.
