Can I set up 2 external displays and my internal display?

Q: Can I set up 2 external displays and my internal display?

I have a Dell XPS L521x with Intel 4000 graphics as well as Nvidia GeForce GT640M. I currently only have one external display using the display port and I want to get a 2nd external monitor but I'm not sure if I can. I have read elsewhere that Intel 4000 graphics only supports up to two displays whether or not one of those is the internal display. So since I have a dedicated graphics card am I able to go up to go up another display? If you need more information let me know. Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Can I set up 2 external displays and my internal display?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I found the answer to my question. I went into control panel and looked at my display setup and my external monitor is using the Nvidia chip so I have expansion room for one more monitor.

Hi Guys One of our important clients has asked us me to quote for a HP laptop that supports the internal AND 2 x 2xternal screens simultaneously as they have a finance package they want to use that needs three screens. I've looked at the newer Spectre range which have 3 x Type-C ports which would indicate that two of these could be used for screen but I can't find any info to confirm whether 2 external screens will work at the same time along with the internal Any recommendations greatly appreciated

I'm trying to figure out on how to get a working setup where the T480s (20L7001UMX) is connected to a Pro Docking station 40AH0135EU.  The laptop has only the built-in GPU from Intel. What I would like is to have both the built-in display and two external displays. But my issue is that once I hopen up the laptop, one of the external displays go dead. Is this a feature as it should or am I missing something?

Hello,
I'm using a Latitude E7440 with a Dock and two monitors connected to it. (Both with DVI)
Sporadically (often already shortly after starting the laptop) one or both of the monitors are going black for about 5 and come back after.
I already tried several things to fix the issue but haven't been able to find a solution yet.

What I've tried so far:

Update to latest BIOS
Use different display driver
Used a different dock
Mainboard replacement
Installed latest MST HUB FIrmware
Disabled Display Port in the monitor settings
At this point I don't know what else to do to fix this issue and I'd really appreciate any help from others.

Hey guys, so i'm running B10074 on my laptop , and I connected my external display to it as well as my external keyboard and mouse at my desk so I could sit there and do the setup etc without moving all of that out of the way. I had the laptop lid shut and off to the side while I was doing this. Then, I shut the laptop down, unplugged all the external peripherals, and turned it on again. It went through the windows boot sequence with the spinning circles, then black screen. After 20 minutes of frustration, I realised that the laptop would show a login prompt only when I plug in the external monitor BEFORE i start it, and only if the laptop is closed while it is booting (when the lid is closed during boot, the Dell logo and spinning circles come up on the external display)

I further figured out that in Control Panel, it only displays the external display, its like the computer doesn't even recognise the internal display anymore. I dont know why that would be since when I first booted it up and installed drivers, I was using the internal display and everything was working fine.
Any help appreciated as well as pointers on not running into this again

My Thinkpad Yoga 15 has a problem, which may or may not be related to the BIOS update recently performed. When booting, the bootup screen only appears on an external monitor via the HDMI output. When performing the hardware tests in the BIOS, tests are done on the HDMI-connected display, the internal display does not seem to be recognized. I verified this using both Linux and Windows. It does not seem to be a hardware failure; I have been able to get the display on the internal LCD a few times, by powering down the laptop, holding the power button for about 20 seconds, then powering back on while pressing F1. The laptop will then function for a while, but loses its display after coming out of sleep. Needless to say, this is unworkable. Does anyone have any tips on how this could be fixed in a more permanent fashion or any indication to cause? BIOS does not allow me to turn off NVIDIA, or its opposite, to enable it exclusively. I also tried different drivers, from both Lenovo as well as NVIDIA and Intel, but to no avail. Any pointers appreciated.

i'm about to purchase a new hard drive for my computer and i'm trying to decide if i should get a large internal HD (500gb) or if i should get a smaler capacity harddrive 250gb with an external drive. I use my computer mostly for music/video and was thinking of using the external drive to store those exclusively and use the internal drive for the OS, hence the wanting a smaller capacity drive as i can't find a use for a 500gb HD just for an os/ a few programs. I'm not a big gammer at all, but i do enjoy playing simulation games like The Sims 2and Startopia, which don't take up much space either. Currently i have 2x80GB drives, one with vista and my music and the other with videos. Guidance much appreciated.

The sound works fine until I load a webpage, or load a folder etc and then sound will temporarily switch from my external speakers to my internal laptop speakers. This is quite annoying as it happens frequently and sometimes I blare my externals which can't be good if it keeps switching to my internals.
Can anyone recommend a fix? It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

My setup:
Dell running Windows XP SP2 with internal DSL modem, isp is xmission, Linksys WRT110 router.

I get my internet through the internal modem, and I'm able to access the internet on the computer that the modem is installed in, and then I have a network cable going from the box with my modem in it to a wireless router, and I have a good internet connection on all of my local boxes.

Now, I have an external IP address on that computer so I'm able to ssh, ping it, etc... I have tried numerous tutorials and guides on how to go through this computer and get into my local network to access machines in my home remotely from work, the road, etc...

But I think the internal modem gives me some problems, for some weird reason. I don't quite understand how to get through the router. I think what's happening is I have my internet gateway computer in front of the router, and then all the local boxes behind the router, and I can't get past the router.

Could anyone enlighten me as to how I would SSH into, or even PING machines in my local network from a remote location. Many thanks and Merry Christmas!

A:Internal DSL Modem w/ External IP + External Router, how to get into local network?

My interpretation is that you have dial-up internet access and are using ICS? Correct?

If the above is correct does the ICS machine connect to the router's WAN port or a LAN port?

Hello! I'm looking at buying a 720 15, but it's really important to me that I'm able to run it in a "docked" configuration (i.e. plugged into a mess of cables on my desk) that operates two external 1920x1080 monitors at 60Hz if possible, 30Hz is acceptable.  I'd also like to simultaneously operate the computer's display panel.  I've seen many people talking about the StarTech MST hubs only enabling a single external monitor, but I don't know if that's only for [email protected]  Here's one such hub:https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB-C-HDMI-Splitter-Thunderbolt/dp/B06XPVGQKY/ref=sr_1_3?s=elect...I just want to run my two FHD monitors, preferably by connecting the above hub.  Can anyone here confirm that this will work? If not, I'll have to forego the cool touch features and grab a P51 instead... Thanks! -Rodney

Hello,  I have a Lenovo P500 laptop and I'm trying to have 2 external monitors displaying at the same time, and just having the laptop itself closed or with a black screen. I know on Intels website, they state that the processor in this laptop cannot support 3 displays, but what I'm trying to do is just have 2 displaying, but both of them external.  I'm not sure if my laptop is broken or something as well, because when I close it even with "do nothing" selected for when I close the lid the external monitor does not become the default display, it stays as an extended display with the main desktop still on the laptops screen. Both monitors and their connections work until I try to connect them both at the same time, then one of them always goes to sleep. If this is even possible with this laptop, can someone point me in the right direction?

I have tried four different USB-C to HDMI adapters (Insignia, trendNET, Anker, CableCreations), each with various monitors (mainly projector systems -- which work with everyone else's computers and dongles -- but also with a television) and the Lenovo Yoga 910 is unable to interface with any of them. Yes, I am plugging into the correct USB-C port (although I've obviously tried the charging port each time just in case). There seems to be some type of acknowledgement; the computer and monitor both can "see" that something is plugged in, but are unable to communicate. I've also tried manually adjusting the resolution each time, again with no success. The display panel always states that no other display is detected. I purchased this notebook about a year ago for the specific purpose of making and giving presentations (I am a PhD student) and as of yet have been unable to use it for a single presentation. Please help. Note: I have checked the forums. These two threads discuss, but do not solve, the problem.

Hi MATHEUS SERPA,
What is the current OS installed on the system?
I have checked and could not find a Dell Adapter compatible with your specific system model. However, these two are known to work with other Vostro models and it might or might not work on your machine. You probably need to try it out and let us know - http://dell.to/1Y9DDqo
Or if you are looking only to duplicate the display, you could get a HDMI splitter - usually priced under $10.
Also, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi so I recently came to a problem.

It was my birthday and after asking a lot for this pc I had received a MacBook Air.

This was no issue to me for I had been happy to get anything at all, but I had purchased three monitors before that I was going to hook up.

I soon realized the MacBook had no HDMI no I purchased a Mini Display port to hdmi adapter. It worked! But for only one display. Then I saw a usb to hdmi and that worked but now it was only two displays and I had no other ways of getting three displays.

So I was wondering if anyone here knew a way to make that happen.

Also I installed win 10 on it using boot camp if that helps at all

Hello everybody, I've been scouring the internet for the answer to this question but haven't been able to find anything absolutely concrete. Does the P51S support three external displays + the built-in LCD, all at the same time? The Quadro M520 within claims to be able to do so. I have beeen attempting to set this up using two different docks - the USB-C ultra dock (40A80045US) and the 170W ultra dock (40A2017US) - and I've yet to get it working. Windows can see all four displays, but will only use three. If one attempts to extend the desktop to the fourth, it disables another monitor, keeping the total count at three. I've seen some topics about this already but it's always about the P51 - which seems to do it just fine as long as you know what ports to use.  If anybody has any additional information or insight, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi folks, long time no see!

I'm looking to supplement my existing setup with an additional monitor - however, I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible. Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction. My setup is as follows:

HP Pavilion dm3 netbook
- VGA Out, HDMI Out

LG Flatron W2053TX
- VGA In, DVI In

I currently have the Flatron hooked up via VGA at a lovely 1600x900 (16:9) running as my main desktop, with the laptop displaying a 1366x768 (16:9) extended desktop. I want to be able to close my netbook and use two external monitors instead.

Now, that second monitor will be a Dell LCD with VGA In only. Question #1: If I buy an HDMI-to-DVI cable (or converter + normal cable), will I be able to simultaneously use both the Dell LCD and the LG Flatron as my displays?

Before you tell me this won't work, let me propose an alternative:

I recently ordered this port replicator from HP. It features VGA Out, and will receive video (along with oodles of other signals) from my netbook via USB. Question #2: If the HDMI + VGA solution above won't work, will I be able to simultaneously use both VGA Outs (the netbook's + the port replicator's) to achieve the same desired result?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Walker

A:Can my netbook support 2 external displays?

Walker I don't think what you want to do is possible. I do know that the HD 3200 does support up to 2 displays, but in your case one of them will be the laptop's own display with only one of either VGA or HDMI as an external. It only has 2 RAMDAC's on it and will have the same limitations as a desktop card (not counting the HD 5xxx series that support Eyefinity) in that you can only run 2 displays at a time. Guess that answers question $1.

For question #2 I don't see why it wouldn't work, as it is essentially an external video card with its own drivers and software.

Hello all,

What I am exactly trying to do is this: for an outdoor football tournament, I am trying to connect 3 external displays to my laptop (2 VGA monitors and 1 HDTV with HDMI). Since I cannot see my laptop screen in the sun, I am using one VGA monitor as the primary display (since it's brighter). Then, I am extending my desktop to the other VGA monitor and the HDTV.

The one VGA monitor (4:3 ratio) will be my primary display with the control screen for the scoreboard.
The 2nd VGA monitor (4:3 ratio) will be an extended desktop for me to show the play clock.
The HDTV with HDMI connection (16:9 ratio) will be an extended desktop and have the actual scoreboard on it.

I am using a HP G60 laptop (2009 I think) with 1 VGA out and 1 HDMI out. Below are my specifications. I don't have very much money to use for this, so cheap/free alternatives would be best. Thanks for the help in advance!
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10

RAM: 2975 Mb
Graphics Card: VNC Mirror Driver, 3 Mb (Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family)
Motherboard: Wistron, 3612

A:3 External Displays, 1 Primary, 2 Extended

The laptop isn't likely able to drive 3 screens, not too mention only having two outputs. Your only alternative would likely be an external video card. I've not used any, so I can't make any recommendations.

A teacher where I work would like to use an external monitor along with a projector that is in his classroom.  We've been able to get both work along with the laptop's display but not in the order he would like them.  He connected the projector to his laptop via VGA, and the external monitor is connected via VGA to a DP adapter.  He would like to mirror the projector with his laptop and extend to the monitor.  We can't seem to get it to do that configuration though.  We have also tried connecting the projector to the DP adapter and the monitor to the laptop's VGA port.  It just does the same thing.  Is there anything I'm missing?

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum so if I don?t do everything they way it should be done my apologies.

I recently build my computer:
Case- X-TELSTAR-JR G-Type X-TSJGT-BL Blue SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower
PSU- APEVIA ATX-AS600W-BL 600W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready Power Supply
Hard Drive- Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM
Monitor- Hanns?G HW-223DPB Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor
Graphics Card- XFX GX285NZDFF GeForce GTX 285
RAM- Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
Motherboard- MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI ATX AMD
CPU- AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz
OS- Vista Home Premium x64

Right now I currently have a problem where my monitor is flashing black for a few seconds and then returns the image. During this time i am still able to hear and the system is not freezing up. I have installed all the new drivers for everything and tried uninstalling them too and reinstalling them all to no avail. This problem has evolved from where before it used to just freeze and then unfreeze and say that the driver has stopped working even though I had updated the driver.

Any help would be much appreciated as I am getting very frustrated at this dilemma.

Hello,
I have a Precision M6700 (GQ12BW1) which is connected to Dell E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator. I have connected two external displays to it (Dell U2412Mb) via display port cable and laptop screen is also active.
Problem is that one of my displays flickers when I put something on fullscreen on it (e.g excel, picture etc). Not always but frequently enought to disturb.
I have updated BIOS and graphics driver to latest that dell support page offers. Also changed DP cables.
What else can I do to resolve this issue?

Hey Guys, We're having problems with external displays on the ZBook Thunderbolt3 docking stations.   More often than not, when we connect the ZBook Studio G3s(Usually powered off) to the ZBook Dock w/Thunderbolt 3 ... and  press the power button on the dock... my notebook boots up with maybe one display detected correctly at the right resolution, and the other display either not detected at all, or detected as only capable of 640x480. I've tried the following: -Docking while computer is already on/logged in. (Usually much worse results.)-Using different models of monitors. (ZR2440w, E240k, E241, Z24n)-Disabling 'auto-port select' modes on displays.-Updaing drivers to latest for video, computer, dock, etc. This 'hassle' results in about a 15-20 minute dance of docking/redocking, unplugging monitors, rebooting, pulling power cords every morning trying to get both of my displays to work. Sometimes I can get them to work but then I can't get my USB keyboard to work. (Joy.) Any advise or solution for resolving these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Almost a week ago I received my new P51 loaded with all available components, as did my last Lenovo W530. The P51 appears to be a great machine. My current problem is that I cannot display 4 screens (notebook plus 3 external displays). Since I have used my W530 with 4 displays for over two years I fully expected to achieve the same with an even more powerful Notebook. The new P51 has two 512 GB SSD drives, the Intel Xeon E3-1505M v6 vPro MB CPU, a NVIDIA Quadro M2200M 4GB graphics card, 32GB(16+16) DDR4 2400 SoDIMM, a notebook display of P51 FHD NT 2D MC CS WLWW and the latest Windows 10, 64 bit operating system. Since I received the P51 and its docking station (P/N: 40A50230US) I have connected the three external monitors to the docking station via a HDMI port, a DVI converter to HDMI and a Display Adapter converter to HDMI. The BIOS was updated to the latest and the 256 Mb default memory for the displays was increased to the 512 MG setting. I have also moved the displays and cables around to confirm that cables are fine and only two external displays will be seen at any time. In speaking with Lenovo hardware support, one individual said I needed to subscribe to software support to get the BIOS changed. Later, a second person said that I needed to play around with the BIOS settings and it should work. I have also rebooted the system a few times. Unfortunately I still cannot view 4 displays.  As an IT, Telecom and Cybersecurity SME... Read more

I have a Y720 with a GTX1060. When I first got it I could use "second screen only" on my LG TV. Lately, I could only duplicate, second screen only would not work. And finally, now, I can't even get the display to duplicate at all. I have changed HDMI cables. I have updated drivers. Next solution please? The TV is accepting HDMI as other HDMI inputs are working. The computer seems to acknowledge the TV is attached.

I have a user who currently has a Lenovo T460s and a 40A1 dock.  They would like 4 external displays. Is there anyway to get 4 external displays using this as the base configuration?  Will the 40A1 dock support daisy chaining all 4 displays off of one DisplayPort?   The reference link below shows that this base configuration may only support up to 3 displays including the built-in laptop while docked but none of the specs mention daisy chaining. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622

I just hooked up my X1 carbon to my TWO lenovo ThinkVision displays. I previously had a T420 and used VGI and DP for these two monitors and had them on the highest resolution and the text was SO much smaller than what it is now. All my windows are HUGE now, I have all the resolutions maxed out in the Intel HD Graphics Control panel on my new X1. My 420 had NVIDIA on it that powered all 3 displays. (laptop display and the 2 externals.) Why can't I get it to look like my other machine did? Monitors:L2251pL224pwd

Hi, I am looking for a laptop which is small in size (13 - 14 inches) and has strong specs. I locked on to Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th Gen with 512 SSD and 16 GB RAM. My specific requirement is to use 3 external displays via docking station, I look online and found this "http://lenovoquickpick.com/usa/system/thinkpad/x-series/x1-carbon-5th-gen#accessory/68848" and "http://lenovoquickpick.com/usa/accessory/40AC0135US/thinkpad-thunderbolt-3-dock-us". I thought I'd talk to Lenovo Support about this just to make sure. Even their support has two opinions. One agent said that the docking stations will work with 3 external displays (2 display ports and 1 VGA). I talk to another agent after a few minutes and he said the laptop will only work with 2 external displays and not 3. Can anybody from the community confirm which of the two agents are correct. I currently have HP 650 G2 Probook which works perfectly fine with 2 display ports and 1 VGA port at the same time and let me use 3 external displays. Thank you,
