WiFi issue with new Nighthawk router and DLink range booster

Q: WiFi issue with new Nighthawk router and DLink range booster

I used to have AT&T Uverse internet service. When using their service they gave me a D-Link DWA-140 range booster. I recently got a Nighthawk AC1900 smart wifi router model R7000 and now am using Charter internet. I have been using the D-Link range booster and was curious if it was compatible with my Nighthawk AC1900 router as far as capable speeds so I asked the question in a yahoo answers forum and I received the following response. "You CAN use the device BUT it is a Draft 802.11n Wireless USB Adapter thus it can not and will not deliver 802.11AC speeds that your AC1900 uses! The 1900 will simply revert to "N" speeds and those are much slower than 1900mbs!" If that is the case then obviously I don't want to use it if it will slow speeds down. When I unplug the D-Link range booster and restart my computer I can't locate any options for WiFi on my windows computer running windows 7 premium. Do I have to reset my Netgear Nighthawk router in order to see wifi options again? Thanks in advance for any assistance anybody can offer me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Looking at getting a Wireless B/G/N router that has removable antennae so that we can attach a range booster to it (Hawking). Trying to get signal to the house next door on our ranch - it's throwing distance.

My mom picked up a linksys N router but the antennae don't remove.

Hard to tell looking at pictures online.

Thanks

A:Plz Suggest a Router to Work w/Range Booster

How far can you throw? Any N router ought to handle the length of a football field if there are no obstacles. Are you working line of sight, and what adapter(s) is at the other end?

I think that all Belkin routers do NOT have detachable antennas. In general D-Link routers do have detachable; the D-Link DIR-615 definitely has two detachable antennas, and is a pretty decent router.

Having found it nigh on impossible to get my new Apple iPhone 3GS to connect - and stay connected - to my previous Netgear router, I splashed out and bought a new Dlink DKT-USBN router that works fine with my wife's PC and also my laptop but the iPhone really struggles to stay connected to it!

Ther reception signal is at best poor and even with the mobile sitting on top of the router, I can usually only get one bar, occasionally two on the signal strength indicator.

Walk away a couple of metres and it is gone!

I know that the Apple has a very bad reputation for this WiFi connection problem but of course Telstra nor Apple want to even talk about it!

The TSG forum on this matter also confirms the above.

Having reset the iPhone zillions of times, reinstated factory settings, updating software and now a new router, I am getting nowhere.

Two issues I guess but firstly, what sort of range should I expect out of this router with it's extended range capability - or so they say - and secondly any ideas how to make the iPhone talk to it when only a few centimetres away? Do physical barriers such as plasterboard walls (one) really have such a dramatic effect on range?

Sounds like an internal hardware.antenna problem to my way of thinking!

HELP!!

Setup of Wireless Router in 10.10.250.x range

Hi,

We have a DLink wireless router (n150)

Our IP network range is 10.10.250.x

I want to connect this router to a ethernet cable and be able to use it for wireless and also connect one or two physical computers to the back of the router (as it has 3 extra ports).

When I connect the router and have it issue DHCP in the 10.10.250.x range - the router gets a IP address of 10.10.250.209

As a result, if a computer is physical connected to the router, that pc get the gateway of 10.10.250.209 - while our really gateway is 10.10.250.1.

This causes the internet not to work on that pc.
I have tried to have the router issue IP's on the range of 192.168.1.x but the problem is then on my wireless clients I am not able to connect (map) to shared folders since the network IP range is 10.10.250.x (and hence different subnets).

Can somebody please help?

Thanks

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

Hi All,

I have Dlink Router DIR-890L. I have set up the security with WPA/WPA2-Personal and saved the changes but the connection stays open and unsecured. All my neighbors are able to connect because it doesn't prompt them for a password. I have upgraded the router to the latest firmware and still the same problem.
Lately I've been using the MAC filter to keep people off my connection but this is impractical when I have guests over. Also disabling broadcasting doesn't allow my phone to reconnect automatically.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance!

I have a a win 2K pc connected to the internet via a westell modem provided by verizon. Everything works fine until, i tried to install the dlink 514 router.

I first un-installed all of the verizon software (as suggested by dlink). Then went through the steps of configuring the router

I can connect to the internet but the DNS does not seem to work.
i.e i can go to websites using the ip address but not the dns name. The router is able to get an ip address from verizon and is also able to get the ip for the dns server. The PC is assigned a private ip by the dlink router

Dlink advised to re-install tcp/ip on my SMC NIC. I dont think that is the problem.

Any suggestions ?
Thanks

I am wanting to make use of a second router to expand the wifi range in my house but need help. Here is what I have done:

Router 1 (main router):
- Set it to operate on channel 11 only.
- Changed its DHCP settings to hand out IPs between 192.168.0.5 and 192.168.0.254

Router 2 (second router):
- Connected it to the main router using an Ethernet cable.
- Turned its DHCP settings off so it can't hand out new IPs.
- Set LAN IP to 192.168.0.2
- Set it to operate on channel 6 only.
- Gave it exact same SSID, password and password type as the main router.

I then switched them all off. Powered up the main router, when ready I turned on the second router and connected them.

The results: It works for a few hours, wifi range is expanding and can access internet by connecting to the second router, works on all my internet enabled devices. However, the next day internet is usually very slow if working at all. If I turn my laptop on, it won't even connect to the wifi (just says cannot connect), or sometimes I can connect to the router but get the "No Internet" symbol.

Have tried it numerous times and this always happens after about 12 hours. Resulted to unplugging the second router now until I get some help?

Any idea what I have done wrong? Or forgot to do something? Or ideas why it works for only a few hours then all goes down on me?

Thanks

Hi,

We have a G router and our wifi does not reach the range we require in our home. (Cox recently upgraded to the N router and gave existing customers a new router for free...I asked Verizon if they would be upgrading and was told yes, but not sure when; it has been several months now and we Verizon customers have not heard anything new).

My issue is: Does anyone know how to either upgrade to the N router? Not sure what configurations need to be done with hardware/software.

Or I heard that there are range extenders in the stores we can purchase. If anyone has any experience and can tell a determined beginner how to hook up the equipment and configure the software, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank You,

I have Beetel 450TC2 ADSL Modem Router connected to ISPs RJ 11 (Phone Line - DSL) at ground floor of my home. All devices 3 laptops and 3 Android Phones (Yureka, Mi3 and Samsung S5) are connected over WiFi and enjoy good signal n speeds on ground floor and front half of first floor.

I need WIFI n Internet connectivity at full first and second floor and possibly 3rd floor (if not asking too much)

I have spare D-Link DSL-G604T and D-Link DSL-2640T, WiFi ADSL modem routers.

Primary DSL Modem Router Beetel 450TC2 has PPPoE Airtel Connection with dynamic ip from ISP. My DSL is on 24x7.
IP Address: 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

Laptops n Smartphones get anything like 192.168.1.2 - 9 at max and even more when guests are here.

I do not have option to connect the 450TC2 and G604T /2640T using wire (Phone or CAT 5/6 or Electric) as per design of house building.

I cannot use G604T /2640T as primary router.

I do see WDS setting in Beetel 450TC2 but not in G604T /2640T.

I have not changed anything on 450TC2, however i have RESET G604T /2640T and then changed following using wired lan connection between PC n G604T / 2640T

IP of G604T /2640T to 192.168.1.254
Wireless SSID n Channel to be same as 450TC2 i.e. SabharwalHome and 1
DHCP at G604T /2640T has been disabled.

No ATM/PPP settings have been configured as the G604T /2640T devices have been HARD RESET using the button provided.

Please help!

A:Extend WiFi range of 450TC2 router using G604T/2640T

i suspect those routers will not work as extenders
they cannot have DD-WRT installed

The can be used as switches , but you would need to run a cable

the other option is powerline adapters which use the electrical wiring , you can get them with a wireless facility as well

or wireless extenders

Hello, I have a Belkin N1 Router connected on the groud floor of my bungalow. It works fine on the ground floor but I have a Desktop computer on the first floor and I use a 'N USB Wiresless adapter' to make my desktop catch the wireless signal but it does not catch any signal. I have tried to enquire everything about these routers and everyone adviced that Belkin N1 is the best among all the wireless routers and can work even on the 4-5 floors of a building. My question is that why my desktop computer or my laptop (which is not wireless) not catch any signal on the first floor. Thank you and Take care

A:Installing second range booster wireless adapter - good or bad idea?

Hi Wolfie!

Open Network and Sharing Center. On the left, click change adapter settings. Right click on your built-in WiFi adapter and disable it. Then you should be good to go to install the USB WiFi adapter. That is how you can switch between the two.

Honestly, though, I doubt you get much better results from just another adapter with an internal antenna. I would suggest something like this:
Linksys RE6500 AC1200 Dual-Band Wireless Range Extender
(cheaper from ebay and Amazon)

If your workshop has a window, set it in the window to get a better "view" to the main router. My main router with WiFi is in the basement of my house. On the second floor I have the RE6500 unit in my daughter's bedroom. It not only repeats the WiFi signal from the basement, but also gives me gigabit wired ethernet ports that her TV and XBOX plug into. I get perfect signal and speed from it despite that the router it repeats from is two floors down and my 55" flat screen TV is exactly right between them on the first floor.

I have both the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz channels set with the same SSID and password on both the main router and repeater. All my WiFi devices just connect to the same WiFi network and roaming throughout the house they just pick up the strongest signal and attach to it. I have fantastic full speed connection all the way from my hot tub in the back yard to the farthest room on the second floor.

Hi,
I own a business that offers free Wi-Fi to customers. Originally I had the blue linksys wireless G router hooked up to the booster on the roof. At another location, I just got a Netgear wireless N router, and that worked way better than the linksys. So I got another Netgear router, and installed it in the first location- but I'd like to hook it up to the booster. The guy at Fry's said that the Netgear router will not hookup to the booster- I'd have to hook the Netgear to the linksys, disable something on the linksys, and then the linksys to the booster.
So, my question is, how do I do that?

The easiest way is to run the CD that should have come with the Router, if you havent got it then you will have to configure it manually.

Full instructions can be found on the netgear website here.

Ladies & gents,

I work for a smallish company that is about to expand. We're going from 4 computers connected to a Belkin 4-port router and adding 20 computers to a switch, which is connected to a D-Link DI-604 which is connected to the Belkin.

This reason for this convoluted setup is that the 20 new PCs need to be restricted in what they can access on the internet (2 sites and connect to a server). We don't want to restrict the 4 original PCs.

We picked up the D-Link due to its ability to control domains pretty easily. The problem is, I need an open connection to a specific IP address on ports 4040 and 701 for a program that the users will be accessing.

When I keep domain blocking off, the program connects to the remote server no problem. As soon as domain blocking is on, no dice. So now you're thinking: 'Just open the ports, idiot.' Tried it, no dice. I've opened the ports on both the D-Link and the Belkin (which isn't really necessary since the Belkin's firewall is off).

If you have been able to follow this long and arduous post and have any ideas as to where I'm screwing up, your responses will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

A:Dsl + Belkin Router + Dlink Router + 3com Switch

Since you can restrict by IP with the D-Link, why not lose the Belkin and just use the D-Link as the only router?

Hello, i have a very strange situation at the moment and I'm hoping someone can help.

I have a standard home wifi router from my isp downstairs (arris) and I use a Tp-link range extender/hot-spot upstairs, my laptop has started playing up and I can't figure out why.
When I connect my laptop (acer swift 1) to the tplink extender upstairs it works as it should, wifi is full signal and 50+ mbps. However when I connect it to the router downstairs, even if I am sat next to the router, the signal bar is full however speeds are 1-5mbps and drop to nothing every 30 seconds or so, Web pages won't load saying there is no connection.

I thought it may be the wifi card (Intel AC 7265), but I ruled it out as it works perfectly on the repeater and other people's routers.

I don't know if it's the main router either as all other devices (phones tablets etc.) work perfect with the downstairs router. It only happens with my laptop.

I have updated all drivers and done the usual rebooting of routers and laptop etc. And still no better.

Hope someone can help.

I'm not sure about range boosters but there are range extenders. Wireless Range Extenders can be placed halfway between two points to extend the signal in a specific direction.

Is there a chance you both are operating on the same Power Transformer? If so you could try Powerline Networking.

I currently have two cables. One cable is a yellow ethernet cable that is plugged into my motorola cable modem in the Ethernet slot. The opposite end is plugged into the Slot 1 slot in my Linksys wireless router. My second cable is a grey ethernet cable. One end is plugged into the back of my computer and the opposite is plugged into Slot 2 slot in my Linksys wireless router. All of the lights are on both my modem and my router as if everything is working okay. The internet works as well.
However, when I try to access my Linksys wireless settings by typing in http://192.168.1.1/ in my address bar, it says the connection has timed out. It says this each time.
Now, when I move my yellow ethernet cable, that is plugged into Slot 1, into the Internet slot in my Linksys router, and I slide my grey ethernet cable to Slot one, I restart my router and I am now about to access http://192.168.1.1/. However, though I can access these settings, I cannot browse the internet. When I go to google or any other website, it says page cannot be displayed. Therefore, I cannot easily toggle between the Linksys settings and my internet, without moving around wires and restarting my router.
I'm doing this because I'm trying to configure my router with WiFi so I can use my Nintendo DS. Can anybody tell me why I'm having such difficulty with being able to view the Linksys settings and keep my internet connection at the same time? By the way, my Linksys Wireless Router is a WRT54G. A:Router and Modem WiFi Issue

Well, the modem has to connect to the WAN/Internet connection or you won't have any success here. What's happening now is the computer is connecting directly to the modem and using the router as a simple switch.

Do NOT try to configure the router using the wireless connection! Connect it with a cable for configuration, then you can disconnect it once you get it all configured.
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi guys just wanting to get some advice on if a WiFi booster would help our situation.

We have a funny set up in that the only place for our WiFi router is in our 3Rd bedroom.

We have now obtained our 2Nd son, yes very exciting, but unfortunately when we use his baby monitor, it appears to interrupt the WiFi signal to the rest of the house.

Would a WiFi booster help in this situation, or are there any other solutions?

Thanks in advance!

A:Would a WiFi booster work...

baby monitors use the same wireless band , so a booster may not help
However, its possible we could change the channel the wireless is on and see if that stops the interference

post back an xirris screen shot - see how below

and congratulations
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "
( the site now appears to allow webbased emails like gmail, hotmail, outlook and yahoo now )

There is also a xirrus gadget, But that does not have all the fuctionality "DOWNLOAD GADGET Vx.xx

Do NOT use any of the download managers offered - Cnet , just use the direct link below - and click on the download button

I have a Motorola combo router/modem, and would like to get a WiFi Booster.

Will the airport express base station work with my Internet setup? If I have a second laptop that is Windows-based, will that get a better, uninterrupted wireless boost, as well?

Or, should I get the same brand (Motorola) of a booster, for better results?

Thanks for any help.

I was hoping someone could advise getting a USB Wifi booster.

I want to use with my laptop in my car and get Wifi. There are networks I can connect to - but they have a weak signal.

I can get 300Mbps or 1200Mbps.
Which would be better to get...?
300Mbps are cheaper - are USB 2 - so assume quite old?
1200Mpbs are dual band - but will I need 5GHz bandwidth? These are USB 3.

Now I can get boosters for caravans that have a slower speed like 150Mbps - but these are reportedly 1500m in distance effective (the specs of one item says this).

The MOST important thing is the distance for me. Speed, I would sacrifice.

EDIT: there are some aerials that have a higher DBi. I'm sure this is an important measure. What is DBi? Assuming higher the better?

Thanks.

Need some advice about boosting my WiFi signal but will explain my housing situation first. I live in what's essentially a small cottage on the grounds of my parents-in-laws house. Our cottage has no phone connection of its own and although we share the electric bill,we have our own fuse board etc... The WiFi is based in the main house and we've spent the last few years making do, however it's got to the stage that the constant dropping out of signal and slow speeds have got to change.

I've looked into getting a WiFi booster however the ones I've looked at talk about having to be plugged in on the same electrical circuit, like I've said above I'm not entirely sure that's that case between the cottage and main house.

I'd of thought a WiFi booster works simply by amplifying a signal it picks up using an antenna so can't understand what difference the electrical circuit makes however I am ignorant in these things. Any advice on whether a WiFi booster could work if we don't share circuits or what my alternatives are? Thanks!

A:Wifi booster advice

Welcome to the forum. what sort of distance are we talking about. What your talking about is powerline adapters one plugs in near the router then has a network cable the other plugs in at your house and you have a 100meg connection via the mains. This is the best option if it will work depending on the wires. You could run a network cable across or a wifi extender but that would depend on range could you get that closer than the r outer

I have a toshiba Satellite L500D that seems to have issues connecting and reconnecting to wifi signals.

At my house it only connects once in a blue moon and when it does connect it cuts off and disconnects after a couple minutes of use. When I reboot it, it doesn't connect automatically and I have to search for my ssid and connect that way.

I brought it to my fiends house to test, and it seems to run smoother. No random disconetions but It still wont automatically reconnects after a reboot. (actually it does on a restart or a reboot within a couple of minutes, but anything longer and it doesn't remember and reconnect automatically)
I have the auto reconnect box checked off, Not sure why it wont automatically do it.
Im not sure If I should get a new router at home or a new wireless card or both?

edit; I have installed and reinstalled the wireless adapter drivers fr Toshiba site over and over w/ no change.

A:Wifi Card, Router, or Settings issue?

kymira, Have you look at updating your wifi adapters driver? Is this a new laptop or did you install 7 on it? more info would help to resolve your problem. Good luck to you with this.
are you using this version # driver?

Hello Everyone.

I've just moved to Paris, France and I'm having trouble connecting. Meaning in the house I'm living in. I'm currently living in a home that has internet and I was given the security code by the owner. However where I am the signal is a nightmare. I also have another internet connection which is open when you have the code (which I do) here in Paris ----however in both cases the signal is ridiculously weak and I keep losing the connection.

Both are security enabled sites but within the room I'm in the connection seems poor although I have a huge French Window.

I was told to get a signal booster, but I'd like some recommendations and if I don't have to do any configuration to the owner's internet connection it's fine--I don't want to bother them about it since even their Numericable loses connection---we're a little outside of Paris---the owners say that signal is a problem for them as well from time to time. I just want to pick up the stronger signal so I'm not losing the connection from time to time----hence the reason I'd rather dump the numericable and stick with the freewifi signal but I've been losing it from time to time.

I have a Sony Vaio and I'm using the Intel (R) PROSet/Wireless (rather than my windows connection), the band is 802.11g, 802.11n for one network called FreeWiFi and 802.11g for Numericable one which is the apartment I'm living in.

Looking for help. Just purchased this wifi booster and am trying to connect to the gowifi where I am at. On laptop you just select the gowifi and it brings up a page that you agree to and click submit and your off to the races.
With the winegard it sees the gowifi connection but that accept/submit page never comes up.
Someone referred to as a redirect or splash page.

How do I get to that screen using this wifi router?

Hello,
I was just wondering, I have a Dell Laptop with windows 7, and me and my mom moved with my sister, they got a nice add on built for us, and where my room is it's not barely a good enough bar for the internet box is down stairs, and I was wondering What would be a really good speed booster that I can get for my laptop to pick up a better signal they have verizon fios, and I get two little bars sometimes it acts up sometimes it's good, or a wi-fi router and how much would they run? Also are there any good ones at Walmart? maybe, Cause I'm going there tomorrow actually I know they have some but I don't know what a good one is, for a good pick up. My laptop is 802.11n something like that, is there something like a usb thing I can buy maybe a little faster to pick it up more, or do you have to stick with in that range?

Thanks....

One of the laptops at work is having issues, and I think someone with monkey hands screwed something up. As "the computer guy", it's on me to get it fixed.

His Windows 7 computer will not connect to a wifi network. It can detect them (so I know the radio is on), but after half a beat, I get that "windows was unable to connect" message".

Thinking it was the internal card, I connected my external antenna, and got the same error. So I think I can rule out hardware. I tried using an identical laptop from work, and that one connected with no problem. So I think I can rule out any issues with my router.

I've updated all the possible drivers on the computer, Windows is up to date, and i've disabled IPV6.

Here's where it gets weird. He can get an intermittent connection when he uses his phone's hotspot.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

have you tried a restore to a working date ?

usually company PCs are configured in such a way - that we are unable to provide assistance - as we may suggest doing something which is outside the companies process/rules

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

I have a PC connected to a Dlink 614+ wireless router on one end of the house. A PC in the middle of the house with a syntax USB adaptor. A PC at the other end with a Dlink 520+ adaptor. I also have dlink 800AP+ (repeater access point) that I'd like to add to the mix.

I was trying to replace the syntax adaptor with the 800AP set as a access point, but I can't seem to connect between the access point and the wireless router. Any pointers, or do I just need to forget about it and set the 800AP+ as a repeater only.

Please could someone help me with a problem I have had for the last 18 months. My Z70 cannot fully obtain a good wifi signal when my router is only a few feet away.  My 13.3" HP can deliver blistering speed from the same distance. So I had to purchase Netgear Wireless-N DualBand which connects into my USB port and yes it does work. The retailer I bought it from John Lewis in UK were not at all helpful. They said they could send it away for inspection and could take up to 3 months. Now can anyone advise if there is a faulty wireless card in my machine that needs replacement, or something else maybe?  I am lost and would really appreciate some help from Lenovo  what to do.  I cant use it outside my home, it just won't connect to any wireless signal. I bought in August 2015, upgraded to Win10 and the wireless worked fine for 6 months, but gradually deterioated over time.  Thanks. Pete

A:My Z70 Lenovo Tablet can't access wifi without a wireless booster

I dont know about this tablet but the wifi in some devices is very susceptible to interference from other nearby signals (I've seens this myself on a tablet and a laptop before). Routers in the UK mostly use one of 3 channels by default (1, 6 or 11, I think) so it is not uncommon for those to get crowded. You could try installing a wifi analyser program on your laptop. (If you have another working tablet you could use that - there are good freeware programs for andoid to do it.) This will give you an indication if this might be the case for you. They often give a graphic display which is easy to read and understand. If it looks like a possibility try changing the channel your router settings to use one in a less crowded area of the spectrum. You devices may adjust to the new settings automatically, but you might need to sign into the wifi again - it varies. This can make a huge difference.

My dual modem/router does not have a visible antennae. Does anyone know if there is still a way to boost the wifi signal using the beer/soda can method?

A:Beer Can Booster on Modem/Router with No Antennae

I would use some tin foil.. make a dish shape on the side you don't require signal which will reflect the signal in the opposite direction (where you do want it).
As far as the antenna goes.. Just do it for the whole router unless you want to take to part and pull it out
