connecting a DVD Rom digital signal to a Dolby Digital Amplifier

Q: connecting a DVD Rom digital signal to a Dolby Digital Amplifier

I have a Pioneer 106s DVD ROM which has a digital 2 pin output.

I just bought a Sony STRDE 675 dolby digital amplifier which has a coaxial digital in input.

My sound card, a soundblaster Live CT 4830 does have a digital out connector on the external part (next to the line in input), but does not have a 2 pin connector on the card itself where the DVD could be connected (there is the place with SPDIF marked but for some reason there is no 2 pins connector)

I do not want to buy a 5.1 soundcard if I can connect my DVD ROM to the amplifier without using the soundcard, Is this possible! Is the DVD rom digital out SPDIF recognised by the amplifier?

Should I create on the soundcard (which does have the digital output on the ecternal panel) an internal connection for the 2 pins? will this work?

Does anyone have a clue? HELP!!
many thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Modifying it isn't going to work in my mind.
Just adding pin connections don't mean the hardware and software is included with the card.

Hi,I'm now using Ideapad Z510. After upgraded to Windows 8.1. I'd went to the Lenovo website searching for new driver update. But, after i install the "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.7023", the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is not running(audio sound not playing through). And, the "Dolby Digital Plus" is running instead of "Dolby Home Theater V4".Then, when I try to reinstall the older version "Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.6954" from Lenovo website, the "Dolby Home Theater V4" is running again.Truly, the "Dolby Digital Plus"'s sound is crisper and louder than "Dolby Home Theater V4". But the sound of "Dolby Home Theater V4" has more bass and more function (like Graphic Equalizer, more Intelligent Equalizer etc.).Is this an update or what? What should I choose? The newer driver (for Windows 8.1) or older driver (for Dolby Home Theater V4)? Thanks. (confused now) @@

A:Dolby Home Theater V4 changed to Dolby Digital Plus after Realtek Audio Driver update Windows 8.1

I only installed audio driver ver. 6.0.1.6798 which includes Dolby Home Theater V4. Since no issues are encountered I have not updated to the latest version for my unit (ver. 6.0.1.7027). Does this Dolby Digital Plus mentioned by you better than V4 in some aspect aside from the ones that you already stated?

It is probably easier if you just buy an XBOX. XBOX is the forerunner of on-the-fly Dolby Digital Encoding for the NFORCE series from nVIDIA by leveraging HyperTransport AKA - LDT (Lightning Data Transport) from AMD.

Or simply waiting long enough for perfecting of Intel's PCI-e (simultaneous multiple data streams from multiple data sources to multiple destinations) and Intel would be putting out latest souped-up immitation versions of XBOX/NFORCE series.

It is unfortunate that Intel just had to re-invent PCI-Express instead of using HyperTransport from way back in early 2000.

Hey guys,I've had a Lenovo Y50 for a while, now I noticed it only used 50% of my sound, so i put on Dolby, however, the sound sounds worse than with the 50%, like it added more noise/sounds than I originally heard in songs. I wanted to see if I can adjust this or anything, but I can not find any drivers anywhere for it. Is there somewhere I can download or adjust this? (I do play my music at 100% sometimes, it used to sound fine since the output was always 50% max...) I am quite sure my boxes sound fine, but it does sound like there is a disbalance when listening to music I always listen to, even when i plug in external boxes to improve sound/volume.is there a driver for dolby somewhere or another way to adjust this? Thanks in advance!

There is no Dolby Digital in *any* games. It's only available if you're using the nForce 1/2 motherboards that support Dolby Digital Encoding. It's some odd misleading marketing thing that Dolby have going on.

As from the America's Army FAQ;

Q: What are the system requirements for Dolby Digital audio?
A: NVIDIA nForce or other motherboards/soundcards containing the Dolby Digital Interactive Content Encoder required for Dolby Digital audio.

Hello guys
I did a clean install to Windows 10, because upgrading it break the WiFi connectivity.
Now I got another issue, I noticed that the Audio Driver downloaded from Windows Update is somehow didn't sound good, if I enabled Dolby the bass is drastically reduced like no bass at all. I tried with headset and a small sound system, they both sound like a laptop speaker. The old driver couldn't be installed, the installer always failed.
I tried to use the same driver for windows 10 from another lenovo product with no different. Do you guys have any idea about this? It is not a big deal because I'm using a USB Headset. What matter is when I use a sound system to play music/movie the sound really bad. The solution for now is to disable Dolby but the sound is really low. I would like to know is there is a way to install the old driver to Windows 10 at least?
My sound card is Conexant SmartAudio other spec can be found in Sytem Spec and the installed driver version is 8.66.4.0.
Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward for your respond and sorry for my bad English.

A:No bass with Dolby Digital Plus

I had the same problem, I also have Lenovo, my model is G505.

What solved the problem for me was, I opened this

then I changed from ''CLASSIC'' to ''MULTI-STREAM''

and then your sound should be ok,

and then you can adjust your bass in DDP and be happy again!

Please respond if this helps.

Hello people, I have this problem since I bought my VN7-791G, and I am asking now. When I stop a music and play it after a while, Dolby Digital equalizer bar seems freezing. I am not talking about the application. When I open the Home Theater from task bar it opens correctly and that circle Dolby button is enabled too, so Dolby is active. But equalizer bar doesn't move, beacuse of that music sounds like Dolby is disabled. Few seconds after the music is played, eq bar starts moving and Dolby works properly. I am using Windows 10 but it was same with 8, 8.1. Hello,

I have a DVD-ROM on my computer, as well as a brand new Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX which is connectd to a 5.1 dolby digital surround sound creative system.

My problem is that when I play DVD's on the system, they don't play in Dolby Digital Surround. They either only play in Stereo on the front two speakers, or they are replicated over all 5 speakers through the use of the Creative CMSS function.

I have tried playing the DVD in two separate DVD programs (NVDVD and PowerDVD), and I have also checked the settings in both to ensure that they are showing Dolby 5.1 (Power DVD has it in 5.1, the other program does not list 5.1 as an option).

Could anybody give me a lead as to why this is happening? I have all drivers and software installed, up to date, and seem to be correct.

Thanks,

I have setup my computer so that it can play DVD's and I started considering Dolby Digital 5.1 (DD 5.1) sound systems that have the DD 5.1 decoders in them but I'm not sure if my sound card supports the capability to send a DD 5.1 signial to the sound system. Now I don't know if a sound card needs anything special or if a coax S/PDIF or optical S/PDIF output jack is all that's necessary to send the DD 5.1 signal. The sound card I have is (I believe) manufactured by A-Trend
and it is a Harmony 3DS724A High Quality Yamaha PCI 3D Sound SONDIUS-XG Wavetable Synthesis with;

Speaker Out/Line Out
Line In
Mic In
MIDI/Joystick
S/PDIF

jacks. And so my question is if I were to get a DD 5.1 sound system which had its own DD 5.1 decoder inside could my sound card send the DD 5.1 signal or would I have to purchase a special sound card for this and why?

I am currently running Vista, SP1. Sound chip is a RealTek HD output through SPDIF (coax), run to my AV receiver.

How do I get windows to output all audio (including windowd default sounds) to Dolby Digital? Right now it outputs everything to 2.0 PCM. I have enabled digital output (spdif), and DD and DTS in the control panel. I have done the test, and heard the tone on all channels (and when it does the tones, Dolby Digital kicks in of course, but then goes back to PCM after the test).

I know digital out is working because like I said, it does the test in DD, and also, I have installed AC3 Filter, and when I play movies, the audio switches to Dolby.

Any ideas?

Well, yeah, I like to know how Dolby Digital in games works. What does it mean?
I know how EAX works- it simply creates different sound effects according to the surrounding.
Okay. But what does Dolby Digital do?
I thought Dolby Digital in games is somewhat impossible, because unlike EAX, it can't be
created dynamically, but must be readily mixed. However, in games where situations are never
the same, you can't mix the sound in advance, it must be created dynamically, according to the
situation and environment. But according to Dolby, they seem to have developed a new
technique to make Dolby Digital possible in games.

Well, what's the story now with Dolby Digital in (newer) games, like Prince of Persia or Army
Ops, what are the advantages?

When I changed my SB Live! 5.1 Platinum against my new nForce 2 onboard sound, I could
only hear that the sound in, for example, Army Ops sounds a bit "smoother" than before. But I
had 5.1 sound with my Live! before as well. And of course the whole sound sounds a lot better
then before (with my Live!), so I can't really tell what's the difference now.

And maybe the answer to my DD question will already answer the following question: when playing games in Dolby Digital (PoP, Army Ops), does it make sense to deactivate EAX?

A:How does Dolby Digital work in games?

Dolby Digital "in" games is just a marketing ploy. Absolutely no games feature any audio encoded in that format.

If you want Dolby Digital encoded content in games then you need to be using a nForce/nForce 2 motherboard which supports that feature - that can then encode audio into that format in real-time - which basically means that instead of needing to use 3 (analog) line-outs you can instead use 1 S/PDIF cable to connect to a Dolby Digital decoder instead.
The nForce motherboards that include this feature can do this with all audio (though obviously it's not needed if you're playing something thats encoded in that format, i.e. most DVDs).

EAX has nothing to do with this at all & if you want environmental effects in your games then you'll want to enable it (Some games tie 3D audio to this as well, so if you want that as well then be sure its on).

The "advantages" to this encoding are that you'll only need to use 1 cable instead of 3 & your receiver may well feature better DACs than the nForce (likely). On the downside dolby digital is a lossy audio format.

Okay, I'm using an ASUS motherboard to output the S/PDIF signal to my Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver. When I go to the device in Windows 7 and do a DTS test I get sound from all 5 speakers, works great. The test for Dolby Digital the front 3 and the sub work, but the sounds for the two back speakers are channeled through the front left speaker.

I've gone through nearly all the settings on the Onkyo and updated the drivers, but nothing has helped. As far as I can tell the Dolby Digital works fine coming from my playstation if that helps any.

A:5.1: DTS Works, Dolby Digital Doesn'td

The graphics card carries up to 7.1 via HDMI. I am running my graphics card HDMI output to my Samsung 40 1080P LCD.

I have tried just running HDMI to my TV, then using the Optical output from the TV to my receive, as well as running the optical output from the motherboard directly to my receiver, to no avail.

In the Windows sound option, I have enabled Digital Audiot S/PDIF. When I click Supported format, I see Dolby Digital and can hit test, at which point I see my receiver switch from ProLogic / Stereo to Digital, however sound only comes out of my front speakers as if it were in Stereo.

Under Advanced Tab, it only shows 2 channel options. If I right click on Digital Audio (S/PDIF) there is no 'configure' option, where I could select the speakers.

This really bothers me, since when trying to play all my games, i.e. Battlefield 2 Bad Company I can only get Pro-Logic.

This should be much more straight-forward, but I can't for the life of my figure it out.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

A:Windows 7 No Dolby Digital Sound - Please HELP!

SOME audio systems only have two channel stereo output on digital. I've seen this on some of the Dell PC's with S/PDIF output. On those systems the only way to get more than two channel is to use the analog outputs on the sound.

This may be the case with yours too.

I've tried unistalling and reinstalling the driver, or just simply updating the driver but none of it helps with the problem that Dolby Digital Plus kept getting turned off when I shutdown/restart my computer and its troublesome that I have to manually turn it on when I restart/ start up my computer.

any 5.1 EAX and dolby digital cards w/ optical out for under $80??? Sounds like too much to ask for a sound card but thats what i need to run my DD and EAX games. My ext. reciever has only an optical input and what it calls a Coaxial input (however on my Sound max card its has the "SPDIF" output, but works with the Coaxial input) Wierd how some sound cards have 2 different types of SPDIF.....the Microphone jack type and the rca type. Wierd i say.

Hey everyone, this looks like a good forum and I'm glad to have discovered it.

So on to first post/problem;

I bought a new amplifier, mostly for listening music and for watching movies with (Kenwood RV7000). My laptop is Acer 5755G, and these two are connected with a HDMI-cable. My ampliefier supporst all kinds of Dolby digital sounds, though I cannot use them.

When I listen to FM radio, the amplifier lets me decide between Dolby digital listening modes, or the Pure Audio mode (some sort of pre-equalized thingy). I can also tune the sound with these Dolby modes.

So when I connect my laptop to the amplifier, I only get a PCM and a Stereo mode, with no settings for the sound. Another thing is my computer has a Dolby Advanced Audio v2 equalizer in my laptop, which does nothing when music goes through the HDMI to the amplifier. When I listen with my laptop speakers, it lets me equalize the sounds.

I've updated the Realtek HD Audio drivers, though I'm not sure if they do anything, since it only seems to be controlling the microphone.

Is there something wrong with the signal my laptop sends to the amplifier, or what? Starting to get a bit confused here.

A:HDMI / Dolby Digital problem

If the onboard card won't support digital surround then you won't be able to get it no matter what the reciever is capable of...although the reciever depending on its features might be able to code the signal into some sort of psuedo digital surround.

I had an old laptop with that problem and got around it by purchasing an external Audigy extigy sound card. I would think such a device is still made.

I have an a-bit ip-35 pro with the ACL888 audio onboard. There is an optical spdif output that I have running to my receiver. If I put a dvd in the drive I get the dolby digital plus logo in the lower left corner and great sound using Windows Media player.

When I play an mpeg, the receiver doesn't recognize the dolby digital and just tries to play the left center and right, but I don't get the correct sound. It just sounds like baseball cards in a bicycle spoke. To make sure it was dolby digital I used convertxtodvd to make it into a dvd Windows Media player played it in dolby digital plus and played it excellently. so the mpeg is in Dolby digital.

I haven't been able to get dolby digital to work on VLC media player at all. Although it does do slightly better because it repeats about 1/2 seconds worth of audio for 5 seconds and then repeast a new 1/2 second of audio, but the receiver does recognize the dolby digital 5.1

I have the latest drivers for realtek (2.41) I tried updating my bios to the latest version, but still no luck. I assume this is a problem with Windows media player I'm not sure if I need to get a codec or something. (VLC I have no idea) I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks.

A:Dolby Digital works for DVD's but not mpeg.

I found a solution to VLC here is a post in a thread

Realtek Codec: ALC888
Audio Driver Version: 5.10.0.5532 (20/12/2007)
Direct X: 9.0C
VLC: 0.8.6d

Settings Inside VLC:
Enable SPDIF
Preferences / Audio / Output Modules / Audio Output Module = Win32 Waveout extension output (without this setting I got stutter)

the url is : The VideoLAN Forums • View topic - spdif or not?

still no luck with Windows Media player, it would be nice to know if there was a fix, but I prefer VLC anyway. ALso the main thing was for a mythtv frontend, which is also working.

Hi.Recently I had my laptop sent for repair due to multiple BSOD. Since I got it back I noticed my Dolby icon was missing from the system tray. I've searched everywhere but couldn't find it so I decided to reinstall the Realtek driver with the latest provided by Lenovo support. However not only this did not fix my problem it also caused another. The Realtek Audio Manager is no longer in the system tray either. I'm hoping I could receive help for my problem. Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English.

Hello, i have windows 10 64bit and Dolby digital plus sound system. I have two different questions:1) I noticed that Dolby digital plus system can only hold up to two sound sources at a time (it will enchant sound quality of 2 sources only). Is there a way to increase sound sources and make for ex. 3 of them? 2) Sound sometimes just vanishes (music is showing that is playing but no sounds are being heard). I have to mannualy go to playback devices -> speaker properties -> Advanced -> and change default format to any of 24bits and press ok. Is there a way to fix it?
