BSOD when connecting EV3 Robot to pc and sharing internet connection

Q: BSOD when connecting EV3 Robot to pc and sharing internet connection

Hello,

as stated in the Title, i am trying to connect a Lego Mindstorms EV3 Brick to my pc that is running a custom linux-based OS (Getting Started with ev3dev). I can connect it via USB just fine, it detects it as a wired connection as its supposed to.
Now, to do what i want to do with my robot, i need to share my internet connection. The connection i share the internet connection from is my universities wireless network. I have tried enabling and disabling FIPS on that network, does not change that i get a bluescreen.

The bluescreen itself appears from a few seconds to about a minute after i activate sharing my internet connection. It says Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal.

i attached the .zip file created by dm log collector.

greetings,
tmork

edit: the earliest i will be able to test any solutions will be coming monday, nov 7th. i hope i can get the problem fixed until then, since the assignment needs me to run my programs on the ev3.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

guys I have a desktop and a laptop both running Windows 7 ultimate.

my desktop is connected to the interned via ethernet cable to the router and my laptop is connected via usb to the same router. both are working.

what I want is to keep the desktop connection as it is and connect the laptop via bluetooth to the desktop and share the internet connection so that i can move around the laptop without any cables within my house.

Is this possible? If so please help me on a step by step process to setup such a connection, my desktop has a usb bluetooth device which is detected automatically by win 7. no softwares are installed for this.

thank you very much in advance........

A:Connecting two computers via bluetooth and sharing one internet connection

Is it a wireless router (you can get a decent one for less than $25)? Does the laptop have built-in wireless? If not, you can buy a cheap USB dongle.

Do you really want to always have the desktop running every time you use the laptop?

A:Connecting pc to laptop for internet sharing using ethernet

Try changing the cable. You shouldn't be using a Cross Over Cable.

You will want a normal CAT5 network cable.

Corss over cables are more known for use with configeration of devices.

You may well need to share the connection of your Local Area Connection on the Laptop. As thats what the computer is connecting to physically. Then see if it will pass through. Im not positive on this though. Maybe someone else can help.

Hi,
I have windows 7 Pro installed. I have a DSL connection that requires a username and password. I have read the tutorials for setting up ICS in windows 7, but it is not working for me. In my 'change adapter settings' page, I have 3 connections: LAN, Wireless and M 1 (this is the dial-up for the username and password). Here's what I have done:

I have enabled ICS for M 1, and created an ad-hoc wireless connection called 'M network'. I basically want to share my wired connection with my iPhone. Everything is ok as far as connecting my iPhone to M network, but when I try to use the internet, all i get is a 'connecting' message on my phone, and it doesnt go any further. I have used this network before to connect 'air mouse' on my phone that lets me use my phone as a touchpad. It still works fine that way, but I cant use internet.

I have even tried enabling the ICS on LAN instead, but got the same results.

Am I doing something wrong?

Previously my 2 computers (specs under profile) were networked successfully with a shared dial up connection showing up as the Internet Gateway on the second computer. After switching to Tiscali ADSL Tiscali shows up as the Internet Gateway and can be connected and disconnected successfully from the second computer, however, no connection can be made to the internet. The internet settings on the second computer under both Firefox and IE are set to Auto detect settings for network. (Note: AVG update doesn't work either from the second computer- does it take its connection settings from IE?) ICS is enabled in Network Connections.

Thanks in advance.

Tiscali put its proverbial foot into it, by not letting connect 2 PCs. Read the smallprint, then get rid of Tiscali while you still can. They are the worst ISP under the sun!

I'm working on getting into Internet Connection Sharing (ICS from now one). I'm doing this for a number of reasons: I do have a network switch I hook my computer into. But, for a period of time each night, I have to unplug it. Don't ask me why. It's a long story. I do have wireless adapters that I use. However, they stopped being fully functional when we got a new wifi. But, we're not returning the wifi because all the laptops and smartphones can connect without any issues. Instead, I have opted to connect my desktop to my laptop via ICS and share the laptop's wifi. I was able to configure the IP addresses and Mask so that I could see the shared folders between the two computers. That's about as far as I got. How do I make it so the laptop shares it's internet connection with the desktop?

My current settings:
Overall:
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.254
DNS: 192.168.1.254

Desktop (link to laptop):
IP: 192.168.1.11
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.254
DNS: 192.168.1.254

Laptop:
Link to Desktop
IP: 192.168.1.2
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.254
DNS: 192.168.1.254

Link to WiFi
IP: 192.168.1.3
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.254
DNS: 192.168.1.254

I thought I might need to tweak the setting in ICS under the Settings button. But, I wasn't sure which IP address to use (most online instructions state that DHCP will assign the addresses and don't go in-depth or they have a rather bizarre IP setup).

I'm currently using a Dell Inspiron 1501, running Windows Vista (it shipped with XP but I upgraded). Recently I got an Xbox 360, but it's located at the opposite end of the house from my wireless router, and rather than blow $100 on the microsoft wireless adapter I decided to connect it to the Internet through my laptop using ICS instead.

However, whenever I plug my Xbox into my laptop and turn on ICS I lose my Internet connection completely. Vista's Network Sharing Center claims that I'm still connected to the Internet, but I can't access any webpage and my router doesn't respond to ping, and the only way to get my Internet access back is to restart my laptop.

At first I thought it was a driver issue, but I installed the latest Vista drivers for both the ethernet controller and the wireless card, but the problem did not go away. Can anyone suggest some fixes?

Hello,

Here is my basic goal: to have a self-contained robot (computer) that can be added to most any wireless network (tcp/ip) and be found and recognized via the Internet with no additional set up. That's the ideal. To try this I'm using a Linksys router on a small LAN with Windows computers.

I note that Dell can remotely service a computer on a LAN. After giving Dell a code number on the computer, they can call a LAN, locate the computer and work on it remotely. This seems like a very good way of doing things and I'm wondering what they do and how they implement it?

Or, is there a better way? I've been looking at “ARP –a” to find IP to MAC address mapping, but I think this is only useful from within the LAN and not from the Internet.

I gather there are two fundamental ways:
1> Port forwarding, which requires router setup.
2> Calling out to a server on the web, which then sets up a bidirectional connection. This would require an outside server.

Is that exhaustive?

I've been mining for information on this problem, trying to find good solutions.

Thanks for any feedback!

...John

I brought the computer not working on the internet to another persons house who has the same exact setup, and tryed it there, and the internet worked. I brought it back to my house, and the internet still doesn't work there. Why can't i share the internet on both computers. Please help me. Thank you for your time.

A:Internet Connection Sharing

Unless your ISP provides multiple IP addresses, you can't connect the cable modem directly to the hub and expect multiple computers to work. The classic (and best IMO) way to solve this problem is with an inexpensive broadband router/switch. It'll replace the hub, provide hardware firewall, NAT, and DHCP services.

Most likely your provider does not allow tethering on the service you have. You need to contact them why you do not have the option to use the device as a hotspot.

I have connected internet connection to my desktop via the USB port of my modem. (I guess there is a usb modem means a lan card)

Now my desktop is connected to internet as well as the laptop but the laptop is not able to connect to internet.

still I am not even able to ping the ipaddress of internet connection from the laptop.
Also I have installed a proxy server on my desktop and configured the laptop to route internet traffic via the proxy server. The proxy sever has the same ip as the internet connection and a free port assigned.

I am not able ping my desktop internet ip but I am able to ping my desktop Lan connection.Any suggestions ???

In the Network connections I see 2 LAN connection -- 1> is for the LAN connection with the laptop and 2> is for connecting my desktop to the internet.

The ethernet jack on the wall that my desktop plugs into is broken and I wont be able to fix it for a while. My laptop has a wireless internet connection. I'm using LAN internet on my laptop and I want to share it to my phone or another laptop through WiFi. But I have some problems.
First of all (and probably the root of the problem) is that the Internet connection sharing service is not working properly. When I start it it shows me a box, saying "The Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
All of the following services are set to auto-start, and are started: Application Layer Gateway Service, Network Connections, Network Location Awareness (NLA), Plug And Play, Remote Access Auto Connection Manager, Remote Access Connection Manager, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Telephony.
Also when I go to my LAN card properties under the Sharing tab, I mark the two options there and whatever I chose for Home network connection I get the same error, saying "An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. (null)"

The method I'm trying is making and ad hoc network. I'd be glad to get some help from you guys

Hi

I need some help with ICS on my home network : ie all Win XP based computers with the main network around an ADSL Router. Two computers, one printer and one switch are connected to this router. Two computers are connected to the switch. I would like to enable one of the latter computers to ICS (USB Modem) since it is in an area with strong signal.

I ran the Network Setup Wizard on the host changing it to ICS. I checked IE8 settings on the other computers to be as required by ICS procedure. I can access the internet with the host but not with the other computers via IE8 or FireFox.

Should I change any other settings on the other computers on the network *** well.

Hi,

I have a Netgear DG834G wireless router which is wired to a pc downstairs, and wirelessly connected to 3 laptops and a pc upstairs. However, my laptop in my room has great signal, while my PC next to it has very low signal which only lasts for a few minutes at a time. I have tried USB recievers and a pci card but it is still poor.

Therefore I would like to share the internet connection from my laptop to my PC. I have a CAT 5e cable connected between them but am at a loss where to go from here. All the tutorials I have seen online assume that one of them will be wired to the router, whereas here I need it to be wireless to the laptop and then wired to the PC.

I was fiddling with this earlier and the wired connection shows up on my laptop but not my PC in 'Network Connections' and by messing with connection settings on this I think I managed to share it. However, my laptop then refused to connect to the Internet and I got popups saying there was an IP conflict on the system.

Please could anyone help me sort this out with simple intstructions as I'm not too brilliant at networking

Thanks in advance
James

I am unable to share an internet connection between two computers in a homegroup. File sharing is OK. The ADSL modem is connected (via USB, no ethernet) to a desktop, the desktop to a laptop via a router.

The problem is that after opening network/adapter settings/LAN/properties on the desktop, NO sharing tab appears, only a 'networking' tab. On the laptop both tabs appear...

How can I get around this? I know I should really get a modem that connects directly to the route, but don't want to waste any time/money if it doesn't resolve the problem.

Hey,

Well... awhile back I got a brand new computer loaded with Windows XP Home. It is great, well, I got it networked with the other one. But had trouble doing so, and some how accidentally got the network up, I also got it to share my internet connection, which I don't remember how I did, it just happened automatically when I connected to the internet. The other computer was loaded with Windows 98 and my computer (XP Home) had the direct internet connection. Both are networked through the hub.

So what's my problem?

For no reason (that I know of), the network stopped working. After a few weeks of trying to get it setup, someone sent me a file which I followed, and I got the network working. How do u enable INternet connection sharin for thos setup

A:Internet connection sharing

The way to enable ICS is to enable ICS on the connection that has internet access, and it sounds like you have done this. To check please show for the computer with two network cards and for another computer connected to the TRENDnet router ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Okay, first thanks for reading this. This is my first post here.

I have a wireless internet connection from my house, and I'm using the internet from next door. Currently I have one computer at my house using the internet and the two laptops next door can both use it too. That leaves one computer that can't connect to the internet, which is at my house.

I'm going to use House1 and House2 as well as PC1, PC2, LT1 and LT2.

House1 = the two laptops are here. So is the internet source. I'm using cable or ADSL, I'm not sure. But I'm using a netgear wireless router.
House2 = my house, where only PC1 can go on the internet. The range is pretty far, so I had to use a DLINK wireless range extender. PC1 didn't work until i bought that.

Anyway, so..
PC1 is using a wireless network card, which is a Netgear.
PC2 doesn't have a wireless card, therefore can't connect to the DLINK range extender.

Can PC2 still conenct to the internet if:
I link up PC1 and PC2 with a direct network cable and enable a local area network? Will PC2 be able to get the internet from PC1 without a wireless network card?

Please help as soon as possible.

A:Sharing internet connection.

If you take a few minutes to read the forum rules you'll see why I am very hesitant to help you. I will, however, go out on a limb and offer some advice: contract with an ISP and get your internet fix legally.

I have the following Problem with my LAN: I used to share the Internet Connection (CableModem), but some days ago it stopped working. The LAN, however, is properly set-up, I can access any computer. As I can PING IP-Adresses, it must be a problem w/ resolving domain names... the problem is, I can't remember that I changed anything on my directly-connected PC (well, I installed SyGate's software-firewall, but I have already removed it - could it be that this progam has altered some settings on my PC?)
BTW, I'm running Win2000 on both computers (PC-directly connected (2 ethernet-cards, Laptop)
Thanks for every tidbit!

Uninstalling it could have removed some required settings.
What are your TCP/IP settings on each computer (DNS, Gateway, IP, etc)?

I have set up internet connection sharing on a Vista laptop - another laptop is connected to the same WLAN via an ADSL router (which is not currently connected to an ISP) providing DHCP. ICS initially worked (Orange mobile broadband dongle) but seems to have stopped working, apparently randomly - deleting and recreating the orange dial-up connection doesn't seem to help. Connecting both laptops via an ad hoc network doesn't help either. Any advice much appreciated.

A:Internet Connection Sharing - help

ICS is a mini-DHCP server, so it's quite possible that the other DHCP server on the same network is in conflict. If you're going to use ICS, I'd suggest deactivating all other DHCP servers on that network segment.

Thanks for the efforts, but the help offered was not successful. Right after my computer is finishes booting, suddenly there's a prompt telling me that Internet Explorer wants to change my Internet Protection settings. Then it asks me if I want to give IE permission to change these settings. Of course not (I think?). And the problem is still there. I connect with Verizon DSL, but when I go on Internet Explorer, the browser doesn't work properly- it says "Web Page Unavavailable While Offline"- what's up with that?! I even checked the status of my connnection- "Connected"! It's just retarded.

Please help! If nothing works, my mom will get another ISP, and I think that would be a mistake.

Just in case, I have Windows XP.

Go to file on the menu and uncheck Work Offline and hit refresh!
If that doesn't work we'll try again.

Hi guys, first time user,
Everything up to this point with windows 7 has been a breeze - am really enjoying it - but now i've lost 4+ hours trying to get this to work and it doesnt.

I have 2 systems one with windows 7 and an older one with XP. The Windows 7 machine connects to the internet through a network adapter and gets its IP adress automatically and works perfectly both in xp and in 7.

The Windows 7 machine is connected to the XP Machine via a second adapter (pci) and a crosslinked cable.

Before Windows 7 IN WINDOWS XP the 7 machine used an ip like 192.168.0.1 and ICS to give internet to the second machine (which got its ip automatically)

I tried a lot of things (ex. static fixed ips enable the computers to share files but not the internet connection) but i still keeps saying its an Unidentified Network / Public Network for the second connection (between the computers)

any ideeas / tips to get ICS to work properly

Note:
- ICS is enabled for the internet connection.
- Back when both computers had XP the second XP computer obtained its IP Adress automatically and the internet was shared .. with 7 on the second (xp) computer doesnt aquire the right adress ever.

Any tips are welcome

Welcome to the forums.
If everything's working and your only problem is that windows 7 is calling your LAN connection Unidentified/Public then just configure your Public Network Profile (under Network and Sharing Centre/ Change advanced sharing settings) to enable network discovery etc.

I was wondering if it would be at all possible to share an internet connection with another online capable device by connecting it to my notebook, (which is wirelessly connected to a DSL router,) by a phone line cable from the 56k modem of the other device to the 56k modem in my notebook. Is this possible?

I mistakenly posted a thread in the internet connections sub-forum. Forgive the mistake.

Hi I am having a nightmare trying to share the internet over a lan

The LAN is working and i can see the drives , its just the internet that wont work,

I have been using sygate home networking and that seemed to cure the problem, but i now have outpost firewall and the two wont work together

I am running win2k on the host computer and win98 on the client

everything appears to be setup correctly, I have also tried using netbui and the computers could not agree on ppp protocols so I have just tried using tcp/ip and it still wont work,

If anyone could shed some light on this i would v much appreciate it as this has been bugging me for weeks now

cheers
