Downloading files or anything on my laptop freeze during downloading

Q: Downloading files or anything on my laptop freeze during downloading

I'll try to download a file or a flash plugin and they download a little bit and then freeze. I dunno what to do >.<

Preferred Solution: Downloading files or anything on my laptop freeze during downloading

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone. First time posting here!

My problem is that while downloading multiple files at the same time, using a torrent program, the system will freeze and I must hard boot it to restart.

I've tried different programs and they all seem to freeze, usually about 10 minutes into downloading.

I'm using Malwarebytes and CCleaner. Also tried several system stress testing tools such as Prime95, Furmark, memtest, and a few video testing ones and all have shown no problems.

Eventually I plan on buying an SSD HD but as of now I'm dealing with this issue that's very frustrating. System specs are in my profile.

Any thoughts/ideas/solutions would be greatly appreciated!

I have down loaded some Free Photoshop PSD files from the Internet for my work in the past 7 days. Since November 4th, 5th, 2012 my laptop started to be very slow. I don't know if this is the issue with the downloaded files. I always do a virus check immediately after every download. I am using Microsoft security essentials for virus check.

After I reboot the laptop, it gets faster for some time. Again later it gets slow. It takes 5 minutes to delete a 400 kb file from recycle bin. It takes 3 minutes to open a windows folder and 5 -6 minutes to open IE. If I reboot again then things get faster again. This continues.

I have attached the logs to this message as requested in the First Steps.

I do not have a Windows 7 CD/DVD because I bought a laptop with pre installed version of Windows 7 home from Sony. (OEM).

I always keep my Windows Updated with Windows and Security updates from Microsoft website.

Please help.

This might be a hardware problem or device driver problem - or some other conflict. I am not sure however.. and can't fine a sollution - hoping someone here can help.
I have some sound stuttering, very minor, now and then. Also after coming out of sleep/hibernate, or right after reboot, mouse is "jerky" as if mouse turns on and off. This jerkyness goes away after 2-3 minutes of use.
Now what is new, and what started only last night is that
my computer freezes when downloading or watching youtube clips..
I suspected it was caused by utorrent. So i uninstalled that, and installed a torrent program called Tixati instead. But the freezing is continuing to occur. It's not just torrent downloading it freezes on - also normal downloading with browser. several diferent files with either firefox or IE causes windows to freeze (win 7 64b). (I tested it on trustworthy download site)
Both save as and run.
I've tried running "Slimdrive" and it did update some drivers from 2006.
I've ran housecall, it can't find anything.
I ran Spybot search and destroy (free), it did find somethings, I removed everything it found except cookies.
I've been in my networks adapter setting in device manager - I turned off task offloading to see if that helped, it didn't task offloading is on now.
I have a question : Would having programs installed that are not turned on - like Itunes or torrent program, just having it on the computer, could that cause windows 7 to freeze - j... Read more

Whenever I download a file from the internet, my computer completely freezes and sometimes restarts itself within a couple minutes. Most of the time I end up shutting it down manually.

It seems more likely to freeze if the file is large and if I'm using google chrome.

Could be a number of things. Try using a different web browser. If this leads to no avail, make sure the system isn't overheating. Also, how are you connecting to the net? (wireless, wired, type of NIC, etc...)

Hi all

Been a lurker for a while and need some help.

I work in tech support and can normally isolate an issue pretty fast but I am seriously stuck with this one.
Just to clear up, I am getting no BSOD.

As soon as I start downloading, whether that be from utorrent or chrome, my computer does intermittent freezes where the sound loops and makes a buzzing sound.

I have the main OS on mt Vertex 4 SSD while all my games/programs & the downloaded files location goes onto my 1TB WD Caviar Black.

It happens more often when I'm playing a game, but I believe it's when the HDD is being read from rapidly.

I've uploaded a video of it here:

That buzzing sound comes out of the speakers, the whole system freezes when it happens.

I can only replicate this when downloading something.

What I've done so far;
Replaced the CPU cooler & Motherboard.
Installed the OS onto another drive.
Wiped the SSD and re-installed windows.
Disabled antivirus.
Replaced the RAM
Tested a different power supply.

Only ideas I have at this stage is something to do with the 1TB HDD.

Any suggestions?

Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

I am running Windows 7 on a HP A1730N with 4 GB memory and a 320 GB harddrive. Computer has 90 GB free space. All software is updated and I have run Vipre and Malwarebyte (both updated) with no viruses. Everything on the computer works great until I download or upload. Then the computer starts to go very slow and will momentarily freeze up, unfreeze, and then freeze again. Very hard to move the mouse, it is like it is in very slow motion. This continues until the download finished (it takes longer to download this way), then the computer is back to normal until you download again. I have looked at the Task Manager when it is doing this and nothing special or extra is running. I have defrag'd my harddrive, no difference. I am running IE8, although I downloaded Firefox and it does the same thing. When downloading, I do not have the virus programs running. Also, my wifes computer is on the same router/modem (FiOS Fiber Optic) and she does not have this problem.

Please help. I am at my wits end.

Go to START->type perfmon /report->then immediately start something downloading-> wait 60 seconds for the data to be collected and then save it, zip it and attach it to your next thread.

The data from that should tell us what is causing the slow-down.

We have a Dell Dimension E54 with Windows XP. We tried to install Kaspersky 2011 antivirus software and while doing that, the keyboard and mouse froze up and quit working. While researching the problem, we realized that an old Norton antivirus software was still on the computer and that we should have uninstalled it prior to installing Kaspersky. We are unable to do anything, though, due to the freeze. How can we get the keyboard/mouse to start working so that we can quite installing Kaspersky, uninstall Norton, and try again to install the Kaspersky? Is that even possible? Is there a way to set the computer back to an earlier time before we started to try the install of Kaspersky? Thank you.

I am having problems with downloading like zip and installation files. When ever I download a installation file like say Quicktime 7 it would be corrupted about 50%-75% of the time I download it.
Zip files usually have atleast one file that has a "CRC check failed" and sometimes if I try to extract that file once again it doesn't give me that message. I tried to reinstall WinZip again but it still gives me the problem so don't think it is the programs fault.

Image problems happen when I try to move a picture file to another folder or when I try to save an image(less likely to happen but still once in a while). It seems like the higher the resolution or size of the image the more likely it would happen. Also though I am not sure but if it try to move a large number of picture files at once it happens more often though maybe it is just because I am moving more picture files.

Here is an example of what happens when I try to move/download a picture file:
Note: it is just a random picture that I downloaded to use as an example. The white part on the top of the image is normal it was part of the original image.

When scanning and downloading a file that I receive by email I’m giving the option of;

“Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer”.

If I select to open the file the system downloads the file and launches the program to see the file (Adobe, Word, etc.) Then after the program opens I get the message:

“There was an error opening this document. This file can not be found”

I use to be able to open files that I downloaded from my email without saving to my computer. I have not knowingly changed anything in my system that would make it not work.
Could I have accidentally erased the temporary file location where the new file is stored? If so where would that be and how would I fix it?

I’m currently run XP Home Edition and my browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.

Try right clicking on the download file and then click "save target as" then a window will popup with the file name already listed so you just select what location you want to save the file to.

That will let you open it AFTER it downloads.

You really don't need software for downloading run of the mill files or opening them, only propriterary ones. Windows opens all the other files.

If its already over 100mb or something like that, try empyting that cache and maybe all the caches (cookies, browsing history, etc.) and see if that causes any chage to the better.

Every day a csv file is downloaded to our desktop which is used by another program. How do I make firefox overwrite the file each time it is downloaded as opposed to adding the (1) after the name of the file?

A:How to get rid of (1) when downloading files...

Hi joshfrogs,

One way is to set Firefox to ask where to download a file to - Tools, Options, Main, check 'Always ask me where to save files' in the Downloads section, OK. If the file exists in that location then you have the option of overwriting it.

I guess the reason FF adds the number is because, for example, many program installers are called simply 'Setup.exe' and so everything but the last downloaded file of this name would be lost otherwise.

I am having a big problem with my computer, this started about a week ago. When I prompt a file to be downloaded, save or just open, the window that normally comes when a file is being retrieve comes up and I heard the chime after the file is "succesfully" downloaded but it actually never opens. I tried to created a file on the desktop and save the files in there, and when went back to the file it was empty. I tried to restore the computer to the last good working date and I only have the current date on the restore point and that won't solve the problem, when I tried to download the Redcure program to solve the restore problem I couldn't go beyond the Run step because after I selected "Run" the window showed me the bar that goes across and it desapear and the program is not installed either. One thing I've been notice on the computer is that the disk capability increases drastically, after I clean temp files yesterday I had 1.7g of free space and today I only have 230mb free.

A:.exe files not downloading

Hello Carlivia, and welcome to Eight Forums.

After you download the file, see if unblocking it first may help.

If not, then do you have a 3rd party AV or firewall program installed? If so, you might check to see if they are blocking them. Be sure that the .exe is safe before adding it to the safe list though.

Hope this helps,

(i can't use download accelerator because it doesn't work with it)

A:Downloading big files...

Hey Pod. I have cable as well and I have downloaded files that are 750megs and have not trouble what so ever. I would speculate that the problem is on the other end of your download, not on your side. See if you can find another source to download from. I do not believe that there is a limit to the size of file that you can download. Let me warn you of something though, dealing with files that large you will find that unless you have a fairly powerful machine with alot of RAM the machine may act like it is locked up or isn't doing anything when you try to open the file. Have patience. It will eventually.
Hope this helps.

I love downloading files, doesn't matter what, freeware, shareware, mp3s (legal naturally) - mostly just to see how things work, etc. On my old computer I downloaded a lot of card games and never had a problem. Just bought a Dell 8100 Pent. 4. Can't download very much anymore and not sure why. Zip, exe, or mp3 files are saved as compressed files or htm files. Instructions say to right click and save target as and then change the file type to the appropriate extension. The selection of file types is nonexistent - only shows html. How do I get the file extensions to show. I'm using Dellnet if that makes a difference. I can't play anymore. Help - I'm a learner so need simple help.
Thanks. By the way, does anyone have any sites about computers, the internet, etc. that are easy to understand.

Best way to download files from old to new laptop.

A:Downloading files

@TrixK Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! I think what you're talking about it 'transferring" files from one PC to another. Typical way of doing this is inserting a USB stick in the first PC, copying the files and folders you want to transfer to it, inserting that USB stick inthe second PC, and copying the files there. IF you're talking about transferring applications -- that is entirely different as you need third-party utilities to do that. The one I have used that works the best is PC Mover by LapLink.  You need the Pro version in order to transfer applications.Good Luck

I cannot download anything on my computer. I assume it has to do with not having java which for some reason was lost when I went from vista to 7. So here is what happens:
1 The thin bar on the top comes up asking if I trust this download and should let it happen. Most the time I will click on it an press the download file option
2 The window pops up with the option of 'run' 'save' or 'cancel'.
3 Then whatever one that I choose, the progress bar will run and complete the initial setup of the file and then close when it is done. When I use the save to something like my desktop, it never ends up there is is no where to be found on my computer.
4 The next window to actuallly download the file never comes up.
5 The real problem is that this happens with java as well as other programs so I do not know for sure if this problem is caused by only not having java.

Extra information: running windows 7, almost always use internet explorer, on start up screen for computer when programs are loading it also says dell dock cannot load/is not working.

Any help is appreciated.

You usually download to the Downloads folder ? If so, go check the folder's Properties > Security tab, See if you have the right to 'write' to the folder.

Other than that, the other thing I would try is to uninstall Norton, and also run their own removal tool, from here: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

Then see if you can download.

Hi there;
Thank you for the opportunity to state my problem and the hope that someone can help me. Bless you for the time you take to help others.

I'm a newbie and hope I have learned what I needed to post to this thread.

My question is, when I download files from the net they open garbled.

they open with, "type file, corel photo-paint 8", even the text files. The last one I tried to open was a pdf. file.

I have been seeking the answer for weeks. Iv'e tried;
folder options - changing the type file, changing the program it opens in;
internet options;
asking questions on the net;
and many other things which I cannot remember.

my system is;

Microsoft XP professional Media Center sp2
intel 4
physical memory 512 mb (but appears to be using 504 mb) available physical memory 135.95 mb
windows system 32
explorer 7
microsoft word

I hope I have given enough information. Please help if you can.
Thank you

You say the last file you tried to open was a pdf file. Do you have a program such as acrobate reader to view a pdf? If you don't it will open garbled as you have discribed.

When downloading files i want it to go to Zip but it keeps going to Internet ExplorerClick to expand...

when clicking to download files from the internet, the download opens the default browser. in your case this is Internet Explorer. to change the default browser to another browser of your choice.
either go to default programs on the machine or make the change within your browser.

I am attempting to download a zip file sent to me by email. Always worked before so I am puzzled. What is happening is that the download gets to the point where it shows that the file" has a few seconds to go." It stays there and finally after a very long time shows "failed". Thanks for any help. I am using firefox browser.

Maybe your antivirus is not happy about it and quarantines it but you don't list which one you use which could be helpful

It happens about 5-7 times a day then it gives up, ive ran ad-aware, my norton, and Hi-jack this has picked nothing up

I've even downloaded this file to see what it is, all it does is take you to a webpage with lots of funny symbols on it, then i ran ad-awre and everything again and there are no problems?

All this thing does is come up with an I.E explorer download pop up and it keeps coming, and i want rid of it any ideas? Cheers

A:Self downloading files

Download and install HijackThis using the "self extractor". Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

We will probably move this thread to the Security forum if it appears you are heavily infected or need advanced help.

Hi All,

I'm having real problems. I'm running Vista Ultimate and have never had any problems until a few days ago. Now I can't download any .exe programs.

Basically it brings up the box saying "Run" or "save", if I click on either it says downloading .exe file and starts the download. once it gets to 100% the box closes and nothing else happens. Even if i select "save target as" etc, i get the same thing. I've tried saving to desktop in order to be able to see the downloaded file but nothing.

Basically as soon as it says verifying the box closes and nothing else happens.

Not only that, but my AVG anti virus has stopped working. When I try turning it back on it says "unable to run".

If I try running AVG manually I get:-

"Your application has failed to stert because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details"

I have no idea what this means, it didn't do this a couple of days ago and I haven't changed anything on my system myself.

I am unable to just download AVG again as I can't download any .exe file (as mentioned above). Are the two problems linked??

I have been searching for hours on the net but haven't found anything that can help me.

I hope some of you have some ideas.

Many thanks

A:Help with downloading .exe files please

Just a shot in the dark, but have you checked in your browser preferences to see where the downloads go, usually makes a "Downloads" folder. Even though your download box closes right away doesn't necessarily mean that it's not saving your downloads.

Hello, this is a question about my wife's computer.

She has a Compaq Presario (256mb ram, Sempron 3100+, 80gb hd)

She recently discovered that she cannot download any programs, it downloads complete but the files are not there even though she chooses it to save to 'My Documents'

Any ideas?

A:Files not downloading.

Hi gamecubefan77

It's likely that the "My Documents" that it is saving to isn't in her currently logged in user "Documents and Settings". If she makes a note of the name of the file downloaded, she can find it using the "search" function available from the Start Menu, or from Windows Explorer. It's likely under a different user account's "My Documents".

Best of luck

Ok, here is the deal. When I try to download an MP3 file, my save as option is gone. Instead it starts to download the file thru my browser....bottom left computer icon with a red arrow - almost as though I were downloading a Quicktime Movie. When it is finished, it always comes back with an error message saying the plug-in did not do something correctly. Regardless of that, I just want my save as feature to come back. I have looked thru my file types in folder options to check what is the default program for mp3s....it is winamp, which is my preference. Any ideas?

A:Downloading MP3 files

hi jaycjayz,Are you sure that the file link that you are trying to download when you right-click, is a direct link to the MP3. I know it sounds simple but it could be a link to another file or control. Also depends where you are downloading from, the best place I've found is Limewire ... it's great, you can get most general mp3 files - and interestingly for you, they have a file integrity check on you mp3 downloads - it'll tell you if the file you are trying to download is corrupt.Another place for MP3...Limewire...

I'm new here and can't seem to follow this thread. I'm having trouble with my Norton 2005. I want to download the Norton uninstall but like some others here I cannot download it "page cannot be displayed" I've tried about 12 times over 3 or 4 days. Soundy or MHhelp or anyone else did you resolve how to downlaod the 3 files from Norton?
MHhelp said:

Since I had Norton 2005, it says to use symnrt.exe to remove, but I can't get the download. Should I use the old one anyway?

btw, can't download that one either.

Both say "cannot find server".Click to expand...

Hi and Welcome,
It might help if you explain the types of files and which sites - are there some that work and others that don't?

Hi. My name is John, and I am having problems downloading files. I don't know what happened to my computer. It was working fine until my stepson installed a wireless-G Broadband Router. He ran the disc for installation then my computer changed. I cannot download McAffee Stinger or other files. I received the message, "Internet explorer cannot download stinger.exe from download.nai.com. Internet explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

I hope you can help with this.

A:Downloading Files

Try downloading Stinger from the link below. http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp...val/Stinger.asp
