I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

We have a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop and we would like to replace the screen. It was originally fitted with a 1600x900 screen, but we would like to replace it with a 1920x1080 screen. Would this be possible?

Ser vi ce Ta g: 4GHR5N1

Some links to those screens: 1920x1080 screens and 1600x900 screens.

You also might be interested in how we ended up with a broken monitor:
a few months ago my father did the most stupid thing since he started carrying computers with him to work. It was a monday morning of course, 6:00. By accident he put the laptop (in it's bag) against the weel of his car and then rode of, with the rear wheel straight over his computer.
The computer was curved, the monitor assembly dented and the right side (with the disk reader) had a serious Z-curve, aside from also being quite a bit flatter.
Luckily the motherboard wasn't damaged. I downloaded the service manual, threw the computer open, bended the parts back in shape with some force and gave them some volume again. I removed the monitor and connected the pc to an external screen and now it's running fine again, with all the electronics working (including the DVD player), except the screen, which I didn't even test as the fluid flows freely around inside.
Long story short: Dell computers are well made!

It's working fine now but we would like to use it again as a laptop, so that's why we were looking for a replacement screen.

I am looking for a Lenovo (no other will do) laptop that could be an alternate to the W530 (about 6 years old). My key requirements are (native, not via a VM) support for Windows 7 64-bit (I do not intend to use Windows 8 or 10, so need either factory installed, recovery discs available, or at least drivers available from Lenovo for Windows 7 Pro 64-bit), support for over 16GB RAM (example, 24 or 32 GB), support for legacy BIOS boot mode (I do not intend to use UEFI), and supports at least 1920x1080 screen resolution. Weight, size, and (to an extent) cost are uncritical. Some versions of W530 fits this description; I am searching for alternatives prior to committing to (another) W530. Thank you for any recommendations.

I bought a used W530 with 24 gigs ram, i7 cpu.  I've installed all the latest drivers on lenovo's support.  Everything seems to work great except the touchpad (touchpad did the same thing before I updated anything).  When sliding my finger across sometimes it just stops and the cursor won't move again until I firmly tap twice, almost like the cursor is frozen in place and the taps wake it up.  Other times the cursor will jump to the other side of the screen when scrolling.  Sometimes it clicks with the slightest touch, and other times I have to firmly tap. I've read most of the issues on this forum but they don't sound like this problem.  This feels like a flakey touchpad.  I see on ebay you can get the touchpad sticker/cover, the entire palmrest with ribbon cables, or the touchpad sensor board.  If I can't fix the issue with software, is the problem most likely the palmrest piece or the sensor board?  I'm assuming the sensor board is what the palmrest plugs into somewhere by the motherboard, but I'm not sure as I haven't torn into it yet and the maintenance manual doesn't show that sensor board. I'm going to attempt disabling the trackpoint in the driver as I just found that suggestion on the forum and see if that fixes the touchpad.  If that solves the problem, is there a hardware fix for the trackpoint or is that just getting a replacement keyboard?  I doubt that will be the issue since the trackpoint and all... Hello,
I have the Inspiron 17R-SE 7720, and it came with the cheaper 1600x900 lcd. I am completely in love with this laptop, but I bought it from best buy online, and they didn't have the 3D LCD version when I ordered and this cheap screen I have is driving me nutts!! LOL anyway from the research I've done, I believe I have the right 40-pin connector for the 3D lcd, but I know that I will need not only the new LCD(3D), but also the Trim Bezel for around the LCD with the IR emitter and possibly a wire to connect it to the motherboard unless that wire is there(I hope). I've also read that the computers that come with the 3D don't have optimus and I believe I do, but I've read that it can be disabled if need be? Any info anyone might have on this would be great!
Thanks in advance!

A:1600x900 LCD to 1920x1080 3D LCD Upgrade-able?

Hi cdurkinz,
You will not be able to upgrade the normal LCD to 3D LCD on Inspiron 17R-SE 7720 as to make the 3D LCD work you will need NVidia 3D compatible system board and LCD bezel which specially comes with IR emitter.
Yes, the 3D Inspiron 17R-SE 7720 does not come with NVidia Optimus technology as the 3D operation needs the NVidia video card all the time.

Well, Monday was Upgrade Day and it's a good thing that I alloted most of the day for it.  I started the upgrade and after the first reboot, blank screen and no response from the laptop, shutdown and started over, same thing.  Then it came to me that I hadn't removed the video drivers which were not compatible with Win 10.  Went in to UEFI/BIOS and selected Integraded Graphics and the install then worked fine. Reactivated Discrete Graphics and installed Nvidia Drivers. Now Windows 10 Enterprise is working moderately well but I have some irratating issues that maybe you guys know a solution. 1. Power Management - Since Win 10 removed the power manager, how do I set the battery to charge only below a certain level (ie. 75%)?2. The Wireless light keeps coming on and the network connection is turned off.  No Fn F5 anymore to turn the radios on or off?3. No onscreen display of Thinklight/Backlit Keyboard? Other keys appear as normal, ie. Caps Lock/Unlock? I'm generally happy with the transitition and was already familiar with win10 (used it as a VM)  The only other issue was Office 2016 and click to run, didn't like that at all and figured a work around to install it. TIA

Hi, I have a newly purchased refurbished W530 with a Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD, 219 GB. It's the only drive in the machine other than the optical drive. I'd like to upgrade to a larger SSD data drive. Can anyone explain my options here? I take it that there is one internal bay, occupied by the current SSD, plus the "ultrabay", currently occupied by the optical drive, yes? So my choices are: 1. Swap out the current SSD for a larger one2. Swap out the optical drive for a larger SSD in some sort of adaptor caddy (and use an external optical drive if I want/need one)3. Use an external SDD (presumably USB 3?) Can anyone comment on these options and make any recommendations? The machine will be used for recording and mixing audio, including high quality multitracks of live shows. Thanks for your time and help.

Hello,  Does Lenovo have a car charger for a Thinkpad w530 or an adpater that could be used as such? My normal adapter says 20V / 170W / 8.5A. I did see some 20V / 4.5 car chargers at Amazon, but I am not sure what the effect is of a lower amperage. Will it just work, but charge slower, or will it not work at all or will it possible even break the laptop? It's been a while since I took physics classes... Anyway, a car charger from Lenovo that was built for my laptop would be best.

A:Car charger for W530?

If you really mean "charger", the answer is yes. The battery will charge slowly with the 90W combination (car and A/C) adapter if the laptop is turned off.  The W530 will not run at all when hooked to the 90w. I suggest a real Lenovo adapter, rather than aftermarket, so the resistance is correct on the signal pin, (used to identify wattage) although some generics may be OK.

OK. W530 user here obviously. My first W530 I bought about a year ago and it came with the older USB2 dock with eSata. This dock has been mostly ok for my needs (the sound noisy unfortunately) but I am considering just grabbing the USB3 dock. So a weird thing happened and my first W530 died after updating a BIOS setting. It gave an error on writing the bios settings to NVRAM and refused to ever boot again. I spent a few days trying everything. I liked the laptop so much I just decided I would replace the board or buy another. Long story short I ended up with a working replacement that is a newer revision and was built in 2013 with a slightly better CPU. It came with the 170 watt power supply, but I my dock only takes the 135 watt unit. I'm thinking that the newer USB3 dock takes the beefier supply? It would seem so. I haven't had any real issues with this machine other than twice my cat has tapped it with her head and the static discharge froze the nvidia GPU. Very odd. I also had some instability but then again I did have the K2000 overclocked and running pretty hot. It seems to take some abuse though. I did repaste the heat sinks and made sure that everything was pretty well and tight. Temps at full load on both the GPU and CPU are around 90-95C which is in the upper limit, but at the same time nothing is throttling. At stock clocks temps max around 80C or so. Not bad really. Lenovo did a decent job with the thermal design. So I've been trying to get better battery life out ... Read more

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help me, I have a ThinkPad W530 which hasn't had any problems other than a hard drive fail. The other day I tried booting it up and it just kept rebooting, sometimes it would get to the windows logo, others it wouldn't even get that far. I removed the hard disk and I can get into the bios, diagnostics menu (every passes). I've tried booting from usb boot the same thing happens, I did manage to get into  safe mode once and boot to a Linux usb, but I haven't managed to do that again. I tried resetting the bios, drained capacitor and even reset the internal battery. Nothing seems to work and can't find anything similar to help. Over the past couple months my W530 has been shutting off by itself.  At first, the problem seemed to happen every few hours of use. I could turn the laptop back on immediately after shutdown and it would continue to operate normally for a few hours until it would shut off again. Then, the laptop began to shutoff more frequently until it was to the point where it would shutoff two second after I turned it on (the green light on the power button would light up for a couple seconds and then power off).  I have taken it to several repair shops (one local third party shop and one Lenovo service provider here in HCMC, Vietnam) and neither of them found anything wrong with the laptop. But both times after I took the laptop to the shops, the computer began to display the same problem within a few days after gettign the laptop back from repair. For whatever reason, this problem doesn't seem to occur while the laptop is at the repair shop. One idea I do have is that the problem seems to occur after some extended periods of use... When I took my laptop to the shop the last time it had been off for probably 3 weeks... and then seemed to operate fine while they were searching for problems. When I got the laptop back, I used it frequently for about 3 days with no issues until suddenly the same problem occured (laptop shut off by itself, can't turn back on for more like a few minutes before another shutoff). However, if I leave it off for about 2-3 days,  I can get... Read more

Hey everyone, I've had my W530 for 3 years now and its worked flawlessly. However a few weeks ago it began to just shut-down randomly, and the time between shut-downs would decrease up until the point that I couldn't start the laptop because it would shut down after 2 seconds after the power button was pressed. I took out my battery and directly used the AC adapter once the problem began. When I could make it to BIOS the laptop would not shut off and could stay on for a long time. At the beginning when the problem began I did install a temp. monitor and nothing looked abnormal, and the temp. never went over 90 deg C so I know it is not a heat issue. Also, safe mode worked and I could access windows. I ended up recovering the hard drive and factory resetting it. It worked!...... but the symptoms started coming back the next time I booted the laptop, and slowly the shut downs would happen more and more often until it was unusable. So I thought the hard drive had something to do with it, so I swapped the original hard drive with a Seagate one I had laying around and installed the factory default image on it. Again it worked for the first day, and then after I shut it down once and move it somewhere else it begins to show the symptoms again, even if I move it back to the original place. Does anyone have any advice how I can go about fixing this? Dear All, I am just configuring my Lenovo W530 now. I am definetely wanting to upgrade to SSD. However, I am unsure whether to configure it with a 128 ssd or an HDD to start with. When I talked to a few other people,  I was told that getting the HDD at SATA 3.0 Gb/s would make a faster SSD (say Samsung 830 or Vertex 4) run at a rate lower then its maxium capacity because the adaptors would not allow it.  Thus, I was going to get the 128gb SSD put in to start and upgrade the size to a 512 Samsung to get max speeds. Is this the right thing to do? Or should I save the money and just get the HDD. Would appreciate any help. Thank You

Hi jcyanksceo,

Thank your for your post and welcome to the commnuity. Choosing between HDD and SSD can be very tricky. I believe this all bils down to what you're really comfortable with really. Personally I do not have nor have I tested the SSD, simply because of the size it offers. Though I i do believe gradually the size will grow further and if i the size of the SSD fits the amount i need I'll definetly get one :-D.

However in regards to your question, as compared to the HDD to the SSD, based on the number of people i've spoken with alot of them prefer to have the SSD installed on their machine. Some even have an SSD and a HDD running side by side. A friend of mine has one installed on his machine and based on his review, he recommends it highly   because of these reason as he put puts it,

Faster boot up timeLoads within 30sec

Faster File SearchesSearches files 5X faster than the usual HDD

Faster file transfer timeAccording to my friend, Huge files seem to transfer 10 minutes faster than his old Hdd

Faster Application Loading

Hello everyone, There seems to be a lot of posts regarding W10 and Thinkpads and most of them appear to negatively speak of the impact of switching from either W7 or W8.1 to W10. That being said, there is a lack of data regarding how some people have made the upgrade/switch and how that impacts their experience of the OS. So, my question is simple: If doing a clean install (USB boot) and not an upgrade, would W10 bring something new to the table compared to say W8.1 (currently running on my W530)? It appears to be that some people are doing the W7, install all updates and service packs, and then upgrade to W10 as a way of doing a "clean install" that seems to solve some issues with drivers. Also, it appears to be that some download drivers directly from Lenovo for their respective machines/hardware, taking those to a USB stick BEFORE doing a clean install and after the clean install of W10, they install all drivers they downloaded to make things like WiFi or BT work. I always believed a clean isntall was best, but it appears to be that Lenovo has yet to cover essentials when it comes to legacy systems and the drivers needed. Another thing that I am concerned is that I would probably want to download W10 and make a bootable USB (as I have W8.1) as a back up for future installs in case my mSATA fails and I need to restart from scratch to have a working machine (happened once with a previous T400 I had and having the CD for W7 helps a lot) Howe... Hey Guys, I recently bought a used W530. The seller told me that the computer screen does not work. When I first got it, I turned it on and the screen light up and shows a white screen. Then I opened up the computer and tried to reconnect LCD to the motherboard. But this time the screen would not even light up. I think the compouter runs fine without screen. It does output signal to external monitor using VGA. My question is: is that safe to assume the LCD panel is faulty? Would getting a new LCD panel solve the screen issue?   Thanks a lot.

When I try to power up the laptop, it does not turn on - sometimes it reaches the ThinkPad boot screen and I am able to enter the BIOS, but when I try to diagnose hardware issues, the computer turns back off. Sometimes I am able to boot into Windows or Ubuntu, but the computer turns off immediately after the boot (without bluescreening), or if i just let the computer sit for a couple of seconds. There are also other times where when I press the power button, the power button LED turns on for a second and you can hear the hard drive start spinning and then it just stops almost immediately and the power button turns back off, with nothing being displayed on the screen. I am pretty sure this is not a harddrive problem because I have tried replacing the original harddrive with a harddrive that works. When I did this, at first, I was able to boot into Ubuntu (as I have that OS on the other hard drive), but after a couple of minutes, the computer turned back off. In addition to this, I have tried booting into an external bootable USB, but just as I was trying to boot into the device, the computer would turn back off. I have tried doing these with the battery in and without the battery. I have also tried doing the "hard reset" by disconnecting the battery and AC adapter from the computer, holding the power button for ~... Read more

A:ThinkPad W530 not turning on at all

Since you mentioned that you had the motherboard replaced, I am not sure whether my solution can be applied to your problem, but the things you described appear to be similar to what I experienced with my w530 (2436CTO, i73840QM): the power goes out irregularly and sometimes it doesn't turn on at all. I had the issue for about a week. The machine was running great till the nightmare. At first, I thought it was dead. When I pressed the pwr button, the button light was on for a second. I also noticed the think light flashed. After hours of trying the tricks that you also discribed in your post, I was able to get it up and running by luck. I thouht the problem was solved until it suddenly shut down. And more unexpected poweroffs. I was blaming battery first, then RAMs, then power jack, finally I was able to narrow it down to the motherboard. Here is a quick way to diagnose whether your problem has the same cause: firmly press the power slot ( left highlight in the illustration of the maintenance manual  page 100 ) and push the power button, if you can boot it up without issues, then it might be the same problem, which is likely that some connection in the motherboard near the power slot is wearing out. Simple solution: fold a piece of paper into a short thick stick, slide in the gap between the magnesium structure frame and the right brass arm of the thermo fan (at where they cross), so that the board is effectively pushed down to enforce the power connection... Hello everybody. I live in South Africa. We have a budding LTE network. I purchased a Sierra Air Prime MC7710 WWAN card. Mainly for it's supported frequency ranges on 3G and partially for its LTE support. It is not whitelisted in the BIOS (2.50). There has been an upgrade to the T430, X230 etc. in January 2013, to whitelist this card see:  http://support.lenovo.com/es_BO/detail.page?DocID=UM015721 . It is used a lot in Europe - same frequency ranges as in South Africa. Currently, short of buying an outdated Ericsson cad I have no way to get internal WWAN on this notebook. Real pity since it's brilliant in all other regards. My question to the board and Lenovo support is if there is any likelyhood of this card being whitelisted in a BIOS update not too far down the line, or if I have to resort to the BIOS hacks which essentially bypass the whitelist checking. I can probably do the BIOS mod, albeit fairly risky from what I gather. It's also my main and only workmachine, so I can't really afford downtime if I mess it up. Are there other W530 users which need this card? Maybe collectively bringing it to the attention of Lenovo might get things moving. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks,Malte

A:W530 with MC7710 WWAN

Hi Malte, I have the same problem or doubt with my T420s. On http://www.lenovoquickpick.com/ I find that the Sierra MC7700 and 7750 are available from Lenovo, so I guess they are whitelisterd. But for Europe I need the MC7710. And this link http://support.lenovo.com/es_BO/detail.page?DocID=UM015721 confirms that for the W530 the MC7710 is not approved, because it is not in. But the T420s is not in the list of laptops anyway, only the successor T430s and for this one the link shows that the MC7710 is suited. Anyway, your call to Lenovo to make sure the MC7710 works for the W530 I would like to endorse. If in this action the can also give the T420s a glance, that would help me greatly of course. Any news or support info is welcomed. Regards, Francine Lenovo Thinkpad T420s 4174PEG with SAMSUNG PRO 840 SSD, 16Gb Kingston DDR memory

On the laptop's bottom there are two sliders. One to unlock cover/drive and second to eject it. Please press both and check what is installed.

While installing 'ExpressCache software for Windows 10(64 bit)', the set-up came up with a message stating that "Please create a ExpressCache partition manually on an SSD to speed-up your computer performance".My question is on the advisability of partitioning the W530 HDD or SDD.My device was delivered to me by Lenovo without any partition, at all. Now, almost five years down the line, while distinctly sensing the continuously reducing performance of my device, I approached the Lenovo service center in my city(Kolkata), as suggested to me by the Lenovo India customer care. The guy, the owner of that service center, told me that partitioning of W530 HDD is "not possible"!There was no explanation offered to me though for his observation. Now, therefore, my question to this forum is on the advisability of partitioning of HDD of W530.Could this be a fact that this guy (the owner of the service center and an engineer himself, as claimed to I) is unaware of his job and hence avoided me and the question altogether? Thanks in Advance to all of you.

A:The advisability of Partitioning of HDD of my W530

Hello,

The ExpressCache software is used with a small capacity (16-24GB, as I recall) mSATA SSD installed in the slot normally used for the WWAN cellular modem card.  It acts as additional cache for the primary hard disk drive.l  If you don't have a mSATA SSD in your ThinkPad W530 you should not install the ExpressCache software.

Hi Guys, I have a 04X1505 in my W530. I suspect it's on its way out... Can someone please tell me if a 04Y1874 compatible?   04X1505 - Q1 N-AMT Y-TPM04Y1874 - Q3 N-AMT Y-TPM I gather it's the graphics chip that's different? Also, is there any way of telling if the 04Y1874 has a 1920 x 1080 resolution? Thanks in advance folks!

Hi, I?m trying to replace the Hard drive in my W530 with a 2 Tb SSD drive (crucial MX500). The current HDD is configured as a dynamic drive with a system, recovery & 3 other NTFS partitions. I have tried copying the disk  and using the ?migrate OS to SSD/HD? options in the MiniTool Partition Wizard Pro 10.3 program, however, when I swap out the old Drive & try booting from the new one, the bios doesn?t see the drive as bootable , although it identifies the drive model & if I run the Storage diagnostic utilities , no errors are found. Can you suggest what the problem could be, please? - Do I need to change a bios option / what option(s) should I look at? Thanks in advance.

Just purchased a new to me W530 with Windows 10 Pro.  It was fine for 24 hours, then the Trackpoint failed.  Device manager said that there was an event and the device migrated.  It then reinstalled and downloaded drivers and it hasn't worked since.  BIOS says it's enabled, start menu under mouse, the box for enabled is not clicked, and it won't let me click it.  Yes, I'm the administrator.  Tried redownloading Synaptic drivers and restarting, no joy.  Under uninstall it shows two drivers:  a Lenovo driver and a Synaptics driver.  If I uninstall either one, I'm afraid I'll lose the ability to use my cursor.    All I can use right now is a plug in mouse because the touch pad isn't reliable now.  Suggestions?

I recently attempted to upgrade my W530 with an Intel Ultimate-N 6300 (FRU 60Y3233), which according to the W530 FRU BOM V2 document should be compatible. Upon attempting to boot, I get a bios error:1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card (8086/422B/8086/1101). I believe my BIOS was just recently updated to the most recent.  Has anyone had this experience? Do you have a workaround? Thanks in advance.

A:W530 compatibility with 60Y3233

Welcome to the CommunityYou have Intel 6300 card but it's branded for HP/Compaq laptops. Its PCI IDs differ from the ones that W530' BIOS whitelist has for Lenovo branded 6300 card:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4238&SUBSYS_11118086As you mention your card has Lenovo service p/n (FRU) 60Y3233 instead of HP's p/n SPS 572511, I'd assume the card is a fake, with label replaced.
