I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot. This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly. Regards, DP-KRead other 1 answers

Hello perkymang, We are sorry as there is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !! **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. I have Windows 10 Pro - Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393
I somehow lost my Administrator privilege and now can't run numerous programs because I forgot my Administrator password.
On the login screen both my Account and the Administrator Account is displayed. When I click on Administrator, the Administrator login screen appears and the tiny circle goes round and round for approx. 2 minutes and then a black screen appears. After about 20 minutes the screen was still black so I gave up. I had to switch users (to my account) by clicking "Switch User" via Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
I've made sure the Administrator account is enabled as per instructions that I had received - i.e. checking that a registry key value is "10" not "11". See attached.
I am currently using my Microsoft Account for sign-in. I doubt this makes any difference.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I believe this is against forum rules but I will let the admins here handle this issue.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, 32bit. I used System Tools and did a Disk Cleanup. However, when I tried to boot it up after the process, it asked for my Administrator Password. Why we have to have an Administrator User Account, I have no idea--especially when you can't get into it. I don't remember putting a password on for the Administrator Account. I have another User Account that I can get on the computer with, but I have pictures, videos, documents, etc. on the Administrator Account that I now cannot recover. Is there anything I can do, other than reinstalling Windows?

If an XP administrator (home version) forgot his password and did not make a password backup and the hint isn't working is their a way to get it?
What do you have to do then. The administrator remembers the users pw but not his administrators.
Try using ctr+alt+del in the "welcome now tell me your password" screen
Here's my tale of woe. I'm trying to help my friend. Her daughter, months ago, set up her then new HP Pavillion dv1000 (actually dv1519US) notebook computer running Windows XP Home Edition. She made jerself the Administrator but gave her mother, the computer's owner, only a limited user account. She then gave her mother the computer. The mother, my friend, uses the computer infrequently. Recently she was unable to get online wirelessly and asked for my help. I am typing this on the subject computer. I was able to get my friend online, but when I sought to install a couple of applications and uninstall a couple of others I discovered that my friend did not have administrator privileges. So I tried to logon using the daughter's user account but found that neither my friend or her daughter could remember the daughter's password. They could not find the recovery disks. I contacted HP and purchased the recovery disks. Today I received two disks in the mail. One is the Operating System CD. The other is the Application and Driver Recovery DVD. I wanted to restore the computer to its original configuration, wiping out everything and starting anew. I put the Operating System CD in the tray and booted the computer. The Press any key to change boot order message appeared and I hit a key. A message appeared that said something like Checking computer's hardware configuration, and then...nothing. I am unable to get the Operating System CD to go any furth... Read more
If this were a desktop, I would suggest removing the battery - letting the beast sit for a minute or so - and then reinsert the battery. That has cleared admin passwords for me. The other option might be to boot the system in safe mode. I have found in the past with XP that if User "A" is set up as an admin and User "B"has limited access that there is usually a third master Admin account that never shows up unless the safe mode is used. From there you should be able to remove any password protection. If that doesn't work, try http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=36&sid=89c1f6732c064ff878879b9c9e6f2f28 . I know, its a rookie move. We had our roommate reload windows and all our software. We can't remember what he entered as the administrator password. He lives in Vietnam now. Maybe its spelled wrong. Is there any way to bypass this?
Do you mean a created user account, at administrator level?
Or, do you mean the built-in but sometimes hidden "Administrator" special account?
In XP, if you can log in TO that special Administrator account, not your own or anyone else's account....
you can change any other admin level user password, unless a password was set for that special Administrator account.
Here is how you can try to log on to the special Administrator account in XP:
See if that helps. It is all the help we can give for missing passwords.

When it prompts for a password, don't enter anything, just hit enter. If that doesn't work, see below methods. There are 2 methods you can try. Method 1 - Reset password from another Administrator account:Log on to Windows by using an Administrator account that has a password that you remember. You may need to start Windows XP in Safe Mode (to boot in Safe Mode, hit F8 repeatedly at the boot up screen).Click Start.Click Run.In the Open box, type ?control userpasswords2?.Click Ok.Click the user account that you forgot the password for.Click Reset Password.Type a new password in both the New password and the Confirm new password boxes.Click Ok.Method 2 - Try command prompt for the "reset password trick":Log in with any valid account.Open the command prompt.Type: net user (you should get a list of accounts)Type: net user Administrator *Type: net user (any account on that list) *It prompts for a password. Enter one, then enter it again when prompted to confirm. Then try to log on as 'Administrator' with your new password.Read other 9 answers
OK, this is XP professional I believe. This is not my computer, it's the computer at my job. We wanted to install a printer to the PC but they got a very basic crappy computer with limited options. What I mean is, You can't run IE you can't run command prompt, you can't view "My Computer", you can't do anything but view the damn trainee program.
And when I try to install the Printer installation CD, it just tells me I need to log in as an administrator to do so.
So what I did was run the computer in safe mode and command prompt. There it asks me to login with the administrator name and password. But my managers forgot their password lol.
So I wanted to know if theres a program or something that I can slap on a CD and bring it to work so that I can reset the password. Also, formatting is not an option. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance

I am using a HP Pavilion and Windows 8.1 came pre-installed on it. I used by Pin to log in, and forgot my administrator's password. I stupidly let someone I thought was tech support for Microsoft on my computer when I had trouble connecting the
printer and computer. Since then, when I open the computer, a box appears for a start-up password appears. I have tried every password I have ever used, and I cannot get past the start-up password. There is no option to reset the password.
Now I cannot access my computer. Does anyone have any advice for me -- other than not to let remote users control my computer?
I have already gone onto Microsoft Account and reset my password, but that did not help.
Hi and thanks in advance because I sure hope someone can help me! I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and I've forgotten my administrator password. Not unless you activated the special built-in Administrator account or have another administrator account and know the password for that. As our Rules preclude us giving any other advice I am closing this thread.
