I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I forgot my hp probook 4230s bios password. I tried the combination keys for reseting the bios but i don't know exactly how to do this process. I also tried some software methods like cmospwd and some other methods but failed.I also tried removing the batteries both main and the time battery for about an hour but nothing is working. Please help if there is any solution. Thanks.

Hi,Skipped BIOS version F.61 rev.A which contained Intel Video BIOS update. After installing the latest BIOS version F.63 rev.A, the VBIOS version is still the same according to the HWINFO32 program. Is it possible to update the video BIOS separately, and how to do that? Yet I'm not sure if the VBIOS is worth updating. Any help? Thanks.Read other answers

Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot. This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly. Regards, DP-KRead other 1 answers

Hello fellow HP users im new in all of this.... And I hope to find here someone who can help me with my problem i am dealing with my HP Elitebook 2540p i7. I dont talk really computerlanguage its all new for me and hope that someone can help me.... Thank you in advance perkymang
Hello perkymang, We are sorry as there is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password. When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request. How do I disable the touchpad on my ProBook 6460b? I do a lot of wordprocessing, and having the cursor relocate whever I accidentally brush the touchpad is near crippling. I've googled, and checked through the forums here and elsewhere, and none of the recommendations I've found seem to apply. -there is no little white spot/button at the upper left corner to double tap. -When I go to Control Panel>Mouse, the touchpad is listed as "PS-2 compatible mouse" and there is no option I can find to disable it. Under Device Manager, I have the option to Uninstall the driver, but not to disable it. Also, somebody tell the HP hardware designers that having an easily identifiable switch, a hardware one preferably, to disable the touchpad is a HUUUUUUUGE plus. The lack of such presents a clear danger of making me never buy HP again.

I have an employee out on a ship in the middle of the ocean. He has limited email attachment sizes. His laptop was joined to our domain at work. He joined his laptop to the workgroup of the ship... Now when he restarted his computer there is no option of selecting the workstation or the domain, only a user name and password. He doesn't know the administrator password. He does have some basic bootable floppies and probably even has some version of DOS on disk also...
Any help on how to reset the administrator password??????

Hey my name is Mitchell Speiser,
I recently just moved and decided to get my computer out from the storage unit; I'll remind you it's been sitting there for a very long time. Whenever I brought it home, I set it all up nice and neat on my desk in my room. Whenever I turned it on, I needed an Administrator password to access my main account.
So I couldn't remember it, thus this is where my problems began.
I logged into a non-administrative account, my personal one 'Mitch,' and looked up some support numbers and information on how to fix this.
Here's a list of my problems that have totaled since the research:
-I do not have my disc to uninstall and reinstall Vista Home Premium 32bit.
-I cannot afford some company to come in for $129.99 dollars to solve this.
-I've uncovered a Spyware virus that's blocking some important ports.
-I can't run Administrator cmd. because it requires the Administrative password.
-I cannot download a 'burner' to fix my password because I need the Administrative password to launch the Wizard.
-I can't locate where to fix by 'rebooting' my computer. (said by some sources)
So I was wondering if anyone could help? The Microsoft support line couldn't, neither could Dell support. I did talk to some technicians via chat123.us and they 'saw' the problem but wanted to charge me an outrages amount just to fix it.
If you have some tips, videos, or whatnot, please comment below and help me; I'd appreciate it!
Hello Mitchell and welcome to the forums
Download the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor here:
Extract the contents of this file to your Desktop. There should be one file: cd110511.iso
Download InfraRecorder Portable from here:
InfraRecorder Portable | PortableApps.com - Portable software for USB, portable and cloud drives
Run it by double-clicking on the file. When asked to specify a location, select your Desktop:
When it finishes extracting the files, tick the box labelled Run InfraRecorder Portable then click Finish.
Click Write Image, then select the cd110511.iso file that we have already downloaded.
Inset a blank CD and press OK to begin the burning process.
Follow this tutorial to remove your password: Offline NT pw & reg-editor, walkthrough

Hi and thanks in advance because I sure hope someone can help me! I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and I've forgotten my administrator password. I can get in under the guest account but don't have a password reset disc. Is there anyway I can recover my account without having to do a complete recovery?
Not unless you activated the special built-in Administrator account or have another administrator account and know the password for that. As our Rules preclude us giving any other advice I am closing this thread.
Here's my tale of woe. I'm trying to help my friend. Her daughter, months ago, set up her then new HP Pavillion dv1000 (actually dv1519US) notebook computer running Windows XP Home Edition. She made jerself the Administrator but gave her mother, the computer's owner, only a limited user account. She then gave her mother the computer. The mother, my friend, uses the computer infrequently. Recently she was unable to get online wirelessly and asked for my help. I am typing this on the subject computer. I was able to get my friend online, but when I sought to install a couple of applications and uninstall a couple of others I discovered that my friend did not have administrator privileges. So I tried to logon using the daughter's user account but found that neither my friend or her daughter could remember the daughter's password. They could not find the recovery disks. I contacted HP and purchased the recovery disks. Today I received two disks in the mail. One is the Operating System CD. The other is the Application and Driver Recovery DVD. I wanted to restore the computer to its original configuration, wiping out everything and starting anew. I put the Operating System CD in the tray and booted the computer. The Press any key to change boot order message appeared and I hit a key. A message appeared that said something like Checking computer's hardware configuration, and then...nothing. I am unable to get the Operating System CD to go any furth... Read more
If this were a desktop, I would suggest removing the battery - letting the beast sit for a minute or so - and then reinsert the battery. That has cleared admin passwords for me. The other option might be to boot the system in safe mode. I have found in the past with XP that if User "A" is set up as an admin and User "B"has limited access that there is usually a third master Admin account that never shows up unless the safe mode is used. From there you should be able to remove any password protection. If that doesn't work, try http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=36&sid=89c1f6732c064ff878879b9c9e6f2f28 . I know, its a rookie move. We had our roommate reload windows and all our software. We can't remember what he entered as the administrator password. He lives in Vietnam now. Maybe its spelled wrong. Is there any way to bypass this?
Do you mean a created user account, at administrator level?
Or, do you mean the built-in but sometimes hidden "Administrator" special account?
In XP, if you can log in TO that special Administrator account, not your own or anyone else's account....
you can change any other admin level user password, unless a password was set for that special Administrator account.
Here is how you can try to log on to the special Administrator account in XP:
See if that helps. It is all the help we can give for missing passwords.
Do NOT start any new threads as they will be closed.
We do not allow help with forgotten or bypassing passwords except as in the link above from Microsoft.
Closing thread now.

Thanks to Augie 65 for her prompt answer to my question. I visited the site and learned I must have a working floppy drive ( I don't) or cd burner capabilities (I don't). My problem remains that I can't remember the administrator password and therefore cannot install new software, among other things. Is it possible to delete the operating system and reinstall it again, thereby being able to create a new administrator password? Any other options that don't call for me to use a floppy or a cd burner would also be appreciated. Thanks
If you have everything you need for a reinstall, that would be one possibility. Just make sure you have all the necessary drivers for all your hardware. Too often people blindly recommend doing a format and reinstall and need to make sure all that is in place first.
You can also backup or document any important data or things like e-mail configurations before you do as well.
Also, if you want, I would be glad to mail you a bootable CD with the software to reset your password. Send me an e-mail if you like.
Now I'm having trouble trying to play new games on my computer because it won't accept downloads or any type of games. I can only log on to a guest accout and it still wont allow me to do anything say I need administrator privlages. please help me

try open the control panel, then the User Accounts, ( if 2k is like XP ) and there you can change the way you log onto windows, and create or delete a user account, then re-boot into your new user profile.
