I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello everyone! I use the t450s for school, and I'm very happy with it thus far. My only complaint is battery. Just today, I realized it had a 2nd battery. I'm relatively unfamiliar with it, so could someone please tell me how it works? Does it kick in after the 1st battery dies? Do I have to enable something? Thanks guys!

Hi!Just switched from a macbook air to a T450S. Really like the computer in general but the battery time sucks for me. I use quite heavy applications but I still only get about one hour battery time (even though I have tweaked the battery optimization settings in the Power Manager. According to the specifications when I bought the computer, the batteries are of the type 6-cell litium jon 47wh.Is there anything I can do to make the battery life better?

Hi all, My 2-year old Lenovo T450s is experiencing charging problems. If I plug in the battery charger, it starts charging for a second, it then stops, then the cycle starts again. Needless to say that none of the batteries (neither the built-in nor the external) charge properly. I tried to: (1) buy a new battery charger, (2) unplug the external battery leaving the internal plugged in, (3) unplug the built-in (internal) battery leaving the external plugged in. None of these solutions worked. I then unplugged both batteries and plugged the battery charger, and the laptop works. What do you think? Is it a hardware problem (perhaps related to the motherboard - I can't think of anything else)? Is it a software problem? Thank you in advance for your time! Best, Paolo

A:T450s only works on AC when battery is removed

I cannot be sure without seeing it, but I would guess motherboard charging circuitry.  I am assuming it will not charge while turned off.

Hello and welcome,

I can't answer directly but it will depend on the combination of internal and external batteries you're running.  There were several options.

Which do you have?

Hi, I like that my T450s has 2 batteries. But the thing that bothers me is that the removable battery is drained first entirely prior to using the built-in battery. I've noticed that this increases the "cycle count" of the removable battery as essentially the battery has been completely used. In other laptops this is not a problem as they come with 1 battery and the cells are depleted uniformly.  This has only become a concern for me when I want to use the laptop for long hours without a charger. This would increase the cycle count of the removable battery if done on a daily basis. By doing so will I be ruining the battery life ?  Pls let me know, thanks.

A:T450s - How many cycles can the removable battery ...

Not sure, but I guess this is a bit by design, True the external is wearing more by having more cycles, but this also means that the internal one has a increased live time. The external one will be the first to wear, but is also the more easy one to replace .I already have 2 externals with my laptop. But I get your point and I'm curious about it too. Depleting a battery fully will wear a Li-ion more then not fully depleting it (if my study's where right that is). So it might be true that the less wear on the internal battery does not compare equally to the extra wear caused to the external battery. On the other hand, the extra wear might not be that great to worry about. And this dubble battery design does give us the awesome feature to hot-swap external battery's (which I use quite more that I thought I would).

Hi, I have a user at my company the let's her T450's battery rundown to empy... (She leaves it in sleep mode over the weekend and the battery dies) This happend a while back and I had to leave the laptop on charge all day, unplug the battery, hit the reset button on the back and then plug everything back in for it to start up again.   Today, this issue happend again where the user ran the battery down to 0% and now the laptop will not boot up at all.  I tried the following things noted below but all the laptop does is display three quick power button flashes when I plug the power cable into it.   *Uplug the power cable and the battery.  Hit the reset button on the back and then tried to power it on - Nothing*Uplug the power cable and the battery.  Hold the power button down for 30 seconds and then tried to pwer it on - Nothing Going to leave it sit for a while but I do not think this is normal when someone runs the batter down to 0%.   Has this happened to anyone else or is this laptop dead and I will need to send it in for service?  Would like some thoughts on this...  Thanks!

Hi everyone, Just received my T450s. Installed the rear battery, then plugged in the power.  On my old T510 I have an indicator showing me when I have power hooked up, and indicates the charging status of my battery.  I don't see anywhere on the T450s chassis that indicates the status of the battery charge. The only thing I will see is the dot on the "i" on the top cover, flash when I connect power.  Surpised there isn't a status indicator. Peter

A:Just got my T450s - no battery charging indicator?

No, there is no charging indicator on the T450s. By popular demand, Lenovo added one back to the T460s.

My T450s has recently started discharging the internal battery first rather than the removable battery. I can't recall when this started to happen but I think it happened when I updated the BIOS to the latest version currently available. Anyone have any insight if this is an issue with other models and a fix? This is rather annoying. I have updated all of the other drivers with the System Update utility from Lenovo. Machine Type: 20BW

Hello,

I got a T450s, brand new and everytime I am not plugged in (it's a laptop after all) the computer litteraly slows down to a point where it is unusable, a simple key (space, a letter, a number) will usually take 3-5 second and sometimes up to 20 seconds to register, no software is usable, CAD, video playback and authoring, completely useless when on battery. The thing is this is a laptop, I WILL use it on battery. That is despite me choosing high performance in the Lenovo power manager.

Anyway I can fix this?

So my dad just gave me a hand-me-down laptop. I get it home and it runs fine, so long as I use that AC adapter. The laptop in question is a recently reformatted HP Pavillion N5420. According to the power options and the light on the computer, the battery is 100% charged. But when I remove the AC adapter, *poof*, it shuts off like we've lost power, literally. Basically, the battery isn't functioning. What I don't understand is the power options recognize the battery and it's charge. Is it lying to me? lol

My brother is suggesting a lose wire within the computer, anyone else have any other suggestions? I mean, I'd like to be able to use the computer outside of the 2 foot radius from the wall plug.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Laptop Battery Issues

The battery may be plain dead. Try with another. You don't have to buy one - just ask in your local friendly HP repair shop or whatever.

If it fails with a known good battery, then you have a fault in the battery/charging circuits. If you are good with electronics, you can try to find and repair the thing yourself, but it would be better to just let the professionals take care of it.

Always ask for a price estimate first - some jobs may be more expensive than getting a newer/better laptop.

Couple of items related to my new  T450.  Note  that I have set up the system as a dual boot with WIN8 and Ubuntu. Function  Keys: On all other Thinkpads I have owned, you needed to press the Fn key to get the Function key hardware option, e.g. sound, display.  For some reason, on this maching the function keys are in hardware mode and you need to press the Ctl and Alt to get the normal OS function key.  Is there a way to change this? SSD:Ordered my Thinkpad with a 256GB SSD.  I looked at the Smart Drive statistics and see that 105 sectors have remapped.  I have used Samsung SSDs and never have seen this.  Should I be concerned? Trackpad Pointer:The red rubber pointer pad sits too low..  I often hit a surrounding key. I am migrating from a T60 to my new T450S.  So, I swapped my T60 red pinter to the T450 and the problem fixed.  Is there any way to order some replacement red rubber buttons that sit higher?

As for the function keys, press FN + Esc once to activate FN Lock and switch the FN functions. The TrackPoint sits indeed lower, in order to protect the screen (as on older ThinkPads, the TrackPoint would often touch the screen when the lid was closed). Its not recommended to use the older, higher caps. Rather get used to the lower caps.

Hi folks,

Last week, the darndest thing happened to my 2 year old Sony VAIO laptop.

Laptop was plugged into the wall. I opened the DVD drive and it shut itself off completely. Then, attempts to turn the laptop on again failed.

I removed the battery and found that I could get the laptop to turn on again. HOWEVER, whenever I open or close the DVD drive and the computer is on, it powers off.

Also, I tried to burn a music CD, and although WMP told me everything went off without a hitch, the CD did not play in my stereo.

If I replace the battery to try to "recharge" it, the computer will not turn on.

My questions:
1) Is there anything I can do with the existing battery or do I just have to scrap it and buy a new one from SONY?

2) What can I do about my DVD player?? Do I need to replace that, too??

Thanking you kindly,
bluenile

We bought my son a Gateway MD2614u to use for his first year in college last Christmas. That makes this unit only 10 mos. old. It uses a Samsung AS07B31 battery. Two nights ago my son said it was on the charger and showed full charge but when he unplugged the charge "goes away" Not sure exactly what to look at even...I have never even looked at his computer! Anyway...I had him remove the battery and then re-install it and put it back on the charger again and we will see what happens.
Is there a way to check the battery? Is there anything else we can do?

I have an HP dv6 for myself for work (for 3 years and I love it). My son is getting in to computers and coding, so for his birthday I found him a used HP dv6-1230us that appeared to be in perfect working ordder (just had some minor plastic cosmetic pieces chipped off).

The real issue started when I found out it wasn't properly wiped and there were personal.... ummm.... let's just say honeymoon videos and photos.  Plus it came with Vista.  I found a computer tech who completely wiped it and installed a legal Win 7 copy.  To top it off, he wouldn't accept any money (I am a disabled Marine and he tried joining the Corps but washed out).  So I would feel like I was taking advantage asking him for more help.

On to current issues: When I first got this in May this year it had an aftermarket batter and charger, and both worked GREAT.  My dv6 gets maybe 1.5hrs on a charge.  His got 3+.  And of course it connected to our wifi no problem.  BUT it only had 4GB RAM (not enough for Minecraft apparently), so he preferred mine with 8GB of self-upgraded RAM. I began working on his and it now has two major issues:

1. The batter will not hold a charge more than 2%.  Even plugged in overnight, and I tried using both charging cables, taking out and superficially cleaning contacts with dry q-tips, still nothing.

2. The network adapter WILL connect to our home wifi, but not the internet.  I've tried all kinds of trouble ... Read more

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T450s with the following core specs: - Windows 10 Pro x64 1511 [aka Threshold 2] (installed from scratch as 1507 (Threshold 1) and thereafter only updated via Windows Update. System was not upgraded from Win 7/8/or so).- Intel i7-5600U (2.6Ghz).- Intel HD Graphics 5500.- 20GB RAM.- SanDisk SSD 500GB.- BIOS 1.25.- Drivers up-to-date, taken from lenovo.com. And I got the following problem:System was running for more than 3/4 of a year very good with Windows 10 Th1 and Th2. Particulaly, there were never any graphic issues on the Desktop, e.g. corrupted graphics or such. However, from time to time (very occasionally, maybe once a month) the display hung for <1sec. and after that Windows reported "Graphics driver has crashed and has been restored". That's why I started to test also drivers from intel.com. But there was no difference. So, except some very rare display driver crashes (both Lenovo and Intel drivers), everything was alright.  But then I go the 1607 Anniversary Update from Windows Update, and I have installed it.interestingly, everything still seemd OK for a while (<10 hrs of usage and <10 reboots). But then I started to notice that within some circumstances, the graphics got corrupted and the PC became very(!) slow. There seemed to be a trigger (in my case AIMP 4), and after that the PC was unsuable. the only thing which helped was a reboot. What exactly happened on ... Read more

Hi! I have bought a T450s with Win7 and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro dock recently and I have had some problems with the dock.BIOS and drivers are up to date on the computer and the dock can work sometime but only when the dock itself installs drivers from Windows update. If I disconnect the dock from the computer more than a couple of minutes it won't work again, it shows up on Devices and Printers but the external screen, ethernet, mouse and external keyboard wont work anymore. What I've discovered is:- When the dock works there is atleast 5 different things listed under the hardware tab of the device (can't remember what, and I can't get it working again)- When it's not working but the dock shows up on the Device and Printers there is only 2 things listed under the hardware tab, USB 2.0 nav and USB 2.0 nav. These are also listed there when it works.- I don't know why the dock doesn't run on USB 3.0 at any point.- When the dock works I can't update the firmware, it just says "No device found" when running the firmware update. What I've done so far:- Completely removed/reinstalled all drivers several times- Checked that BIOS is up to date- Checked in the BIOS if USB 3.0 is enabled- Sent the dock back to Lenovo and have gotten a new one, still same problem.Anyone have some ideas of what's wrong? I've spent the better part of 2 days trying to figure this out for my boss, she's mucked up her PC and I'm drawing blanks. She reported to me that her keyboard stopped working, and external keyboards "would not sync" either.  She works remotely, so I had her send me the PC.  Upon receiving, I was able to get USB keyboards to work, where she'd tried 3 (one brand new) and failed.   However - I still can't solve the laptop's internal keyboard.  It appears to be entirely unresponsive, but the FN light does work, so it's getting power.  When opening the on-screen keyboard, I see that: CNTRL and ALT are being recognized.  Escape is acting as the function lock/unlock.  B, S and K keys are also being recognized, but as other characters, like Scroll lock and ALT+Scroll lock.  No other keys are recognized. I've checked languages, deleted and reinstalled drivers, system restored to an older point where the keyboard did work, and a few other things I've read suggestions on, to no avail.  I'd say by now I've been through 15 different posts from Windows, Lenovo, other support sites, and have had no luck with any suggested remedy.  Anyone have any better/other ideas?  We're now out of the T450S, only have T440S in stock, and considering the improved touchpad of the T450, and her expanded memory, I don't want to downgrade unless absolutely necessary.  I'd like to fix the 450. Thanks

Hallo!I purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop 3 months ago.Approximately one month ago , the laptop clock started malfunctioning.Whenever I switch off the machine for a few hours e.g. during nighttime when I sleep, the timer shown is way ahead when I switch it on.For instance,if I switch my machine at 11 pm when I set computer clock to 11pm,when I wake up in the morning at 9 am,the computer clock shows 12.30 pm on the same day.The timer moves more ahead whenever I switch it off.Even after I re-set the clock, the same problem will manifest itself when I switch it off.Is this a software or hardware problem and how can I fix this?

Also I am curious concerning the best way to enable laptop battery have a longer life.Should one (option 1)always connect the laptop to the main power whenever one has access to the mains power even if the battery is full or should one (option2)fully charge the battery, disconnect the laptop from main power and use the battery charge and then wait for battery power to get finished so that one can then re-charge battey using main power?Which is the better option?

Please respond to my queries as soon as possible and I shall be infinitely grateful. Thanks in advance.

I just received my Yoga 3 Pro-1370 Laptop from the Lenova Repair Center - this was the 2nd service request for the battery issue.  The laptop battery still does not charge when the AC adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet.  Sometimes the charging indicator light will indicate that it is charging - but charges 10 - 15 seconds and goes off.  Confirmed the battery is not charging even though the light is not on just to be sure the issue is not with the power indicator light.  At this point the Lenova Repair Center has had possession of my laptop longer than I have in 2017.  Not sure where to turn to, Call Center/Support seems to be encountering problems and can't log a Service Call?   Seriously, I was asked to schedule a call for them to call me when their systems are up?  Laptop is under warranty, but I'm beginning to think they are trying to run out the clock. I'm typing fast - as Battery Life is below 10%   Any and all suggestions are welcomed.Regards.

i've been using my t450s for a few years now. mostly as a laptop / portable, but recently needed to do a little more intensive / desktop related work (excel, ppt, etc.).  i purchased a Dell UltraSharp U2415 and am basically trying to create a more desktop environment. the U2415 has a display port, so when i plug it into the t450s, it is pretty seamless to start working on the larger monitor. i also have an external keyboard USB'd to the monitor, and the monitor ss / USB'd to the laptop. however, the computer doesn't always turn on when i type on the external keyboard / mouse, nor does the monitor always turn on when my laptop lid is closed - is there a way for the computer to detect that there's an external monitor and thus should be on even with a closed lid (i know there's an option from the battery section, but that's a bit different). also, the screen size of the u2415 is 1920-1200, whereas the t450s is 1920-1080. Not a huge difference, but it would be great if i plugged in the display port and the screen size is automatically set to the right resolution (rather than me manually setting it each time - in that case i should have just bought a monitor that is 1920x1080 rather than the u2415). anyways, just looking for some quick guidance to make my laptop more like a desktop (with the convenience of a laptop).

There are many parts to the question.  I don't have the same monitor to test with, but I would guess that the starting or not starting from keyboard activity relates to the laptop powering down the monitor due to inactivity.  Waking from keyboard or mouse activity work best if the devices are connected directly to the laptop.  Normally, the resolution of the monitor is pixked up by the OS reading a configuration chip on the screen (EEID).  Most modern screens have a 16:9 aspect ratio, which replaced the older standard, 16:10.  Your thinkpad LCD is 16:9 and your monitor is 16:10.  I don't know if the combination causes problems.  I also don't know if the EEID is filled correctly.  You might try running moninfo (freeware) to find out.

I noticed one day that the edges of my laptop had been chipped. I don't use the laptop in any extreme manner, all I do is put it in my backpack and take it out. I don't remember knocking it against anything, I am extremely careful. But there are marks on the edges, it's not a deep dent, but more like if a bit of an eggshell fell off a hardboiled egg leaving a flat crack behind or as if paint had chipped off. Does the cover dent very easily? Is this normal or am I the only one who has this? I can upload a picture of requested. Does bending the laptop cause the surface to crack? I may have bent it in my backpack, which caused the laptop to warp, so I had to bend it back so it sat evenly on the flat surface.

Hi all, My t450s restarts instead of waking from sleep when it's been left in sleep for a prolonged period. It has happened multiple times and I cannot figure out what the issue is. It seems to only happen when the laptop is not plugged in to AC. That is, it always boots fine when it's waking while it's plugged in. What gives? How can I fix this? Cheers,

Hi,

You're sure it's cold booting and not resuming from hibernation?

Have you checked you sleep settings to make sure it's not set to hibernate after a set time when on battery?  That's how I have mine set:  sleep and if that goes on for an extended time, hibernate.

So I just got my thinkpad t450s, and i've noticed that when i have the speakers plugged in to the laptop and the machine goes to sleep the speaker emmitt a buzzing noise. I'm assuming this is a grounding issue, does anybody have any suggestions for a fix or if this is something that could cause other problems? Is this a situation where is should be getting a replacement? Thanks!

Hi Mblo,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Sounds to me like your new cable is acting like an antenna and you're picking up the static from there.

Try connecting your speakers and computer at the same power outlet, with an extension cord. Keep the cable connected to your speaker, but plug them out of your computer. If you still get noise, the cable is the problem.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,
Shashi

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

Hello.  I would be grateful if someone can help me with solving the following battery issue.
My XPS13 9343 (with Windows 10, 2015 model) recently stopped charging when connected.  I have conducted BIOS test, stress test, system test, battery test recommended on Dell forum, but could not find any issues.
Then ran device manager and checked & updated drivers, tested for virus, scanned the system, but could not detect any issues.
Lights on AC adopter is on (static) , and the front light under the touch pad turn on white briefly when connected then turn off immediately when plugged in (when disconnected, orange light comes on).
It seems charging is disabled...I might have touched keys without realizing (I checked whether there were hot key to enable/disable charging, but could not find one).
Since it is an ultrabook, and the battery has no issues, I have not opened the back to take out the battery.
I brew into the connecting hole, but it did not solve the issue.
Please help!

A:XPS 9343 (2015) battery not charging - no issues with battery or AC adopter when tested

Dear ejn63,
Thank you very much for the quick reply.
I just did F2 at powerup and found the adapter was displayed as 'Unknown.'
I would order the new AC adapter today and see how it goes.
Will report when solved.
Thank you again.

I currently have a total of three displays I can use. The laptop screen and two Lenovo monitors.  One monitor is hooked up with vga cable and the other with a display port cable. I would like to add an additional monitor, but from what I read the vga on the laptop is disabled while docked, so is this possible,  can I use the mini display port while it?s docked for an additional display?  Or can I use the dvi port and get a dvi to vga adaptor or a dvi to hdmi adaptor on the docking station while it?s docked?
