I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have a domain environment with the roughly 300 computers.  Almost all the computers are Windows 7 and we have has the default home page define my GPO for years.

July 2017 we had about 50 Computers change the default  homepage that points to a Microsoft link that redirects to a msn page. The msn page is no longer a valid page.  I cannot find a pattern between the computers,  The policies are
still apply and it just does not reset the default webpage for the user profile.  If you reset the Internet explorer settings everything works as normal and he gets the policy homepage.

I ruled out malware  with multiple tools could find nothing to suggest it had been hijacked.

If I log into a different  user account on the same computer that user account does not have the same problem.  My Theory was a old Microsoft patch some how did this, but I could not find a patch that had ran on the affected PC's.

My home page is being reset. I've tried to fix the problem by using HT and fixing what I thought were the offending lines. That seems to work for a day or so, but eventually my home page gets reset again. I also used spybot to try to solve the problem, but that didn't work either. I assume that since the offending lines are "obfuscated," they may not be easy to get to. Can anyone help me out? My HT log is below. Thanks very much.

hello & welcome to TSF ,

just for starters I would like you to do this

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

also

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

I have been using Yahoo as my start-up home page for many months. Inexplicably, however, my start-up page recently has been inadvertently switched to http://www.best-search.info/1526/. I figured it would be a very easy process to reset my home page to Yahoo.

I clicked on Tools, then Internet Options and typed in Yahoo for my home page, clicked Apply and finally clicked OK. I figured this should certainly solve my problem, but it hasn't! Even after resetting Yahoo as my home page, rebooting, and clicking on the IE icon, much to my dismay and disappointment I find that best-search.info/1526/ is still my home page!

Can anyone tell me how and/or why I'm having this problem, and, more importantly, how I can get rid of best-search once and for all and return to the home page of my choosing?

Thank you,
wgreene

Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page.   IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This  page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

I reset browser (IE11) when standard user open the session and open the browser. It fixes the error message from the web site in question. I get the message that the server should be restarted.
When login in as admin to the TS server console and open the browser I get the same message about server restart.

Restart is not the problem...
I want to know how to proceed in order to assure that IE11 will be resetted for all user sessions?

Since updating to IE9 a few years back, we have found that there has been a consistent need to "Reset" Internet Explorer for proper functionality to be restored to various sites.   This has been so frequent in fact, that I have built
a small batch tool and placed it on all global computers via group policy for all users to have a quick link to a processes that allows for a clean Reset to take place at the end user finger tips.
My process includes all of the items you may do yourself manually as an IT admin, it closes IE, deletes the cached content and then runs the Reset process for the user to check off "Delete Personal Info" and then once finished resetting, it runs
gpupdate and then closes.
The fact is that any users may have to do this once a week to continue normal operation of a website that works when everything is clean then may deteriorate over time.  This could be an internal web resources of our companies or
an external public web resource.   When this first started happening it was with IE9 and as we upgraded recently to IE11 with the hopes of this going away, the same consistency of needing to reset IE has persisted.  Our users, have now become
so used to the Reset Internet Explorer tool that they are accustom to using it on their own without the need for an IT call.
I would like to know if there is anything that may have been overlooked... Read more

Hi,

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and IE11. I often get a situation while browsing where I click on a link to read an article and the page comes up blank with the text: This page can't be displayed.

This condition seems to happen randomly. I usually have several tabs open. Once IE11 starts doing this, the majority of tabs produce the same blank page. I even opened a new tab and clicked on Google where the same thing happened.

The solution is to close IE11 and restart IE11. I've tried other solutions such as a complete IE11 reset, but that doesn't cure the issue.

Is there a fix for this condition?

I cannot figure out how to set the IE11 in Win 8.1 to only print a web page in Black and White. In Win 7 I had found it but with great difficulty and I believe it was in Internet tools if you drill down far enough. In Win 8.1 I cannot find it so that when printing out a web page that has red and blue it is almost impossible to read on my Dell 1700 monochrome laser. I tried in the Devices and Printers, Dell, both Printer preferences and printer properties but cannot find anywhere to set. I am fairly certain it is a setting that has to be made in Internet Explorer but they seem to have hidden it (I think I was using IE9 or IE10 in Win 7). In Excel you can set that parameter for each page in page setup.

Any ideas where to look?

Hello,
sorry, i'm not a computer wizard although I know my way around a bunch of these things.  Have the strangest thing, which I can't figure out.  I have this website, which is giving me always the "Page can't be displayed" error, together
with the TLS and RC4 comments.
Strangly enough, this is the only site where this happens.  All other various sites are accessible (e.g. Google, Facebook, Youtube), so it doesn't seem to be a connectivity problem.   FYI : i also get this same problem with Chrome.
I believe I had no problems with this on my previous computer, who also had IE11.  It must be some of the security settings or some kind of access right, although nothing special is installed.
I have the TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 turned on.  I also tried using the SSL 2.0 & 3.0 but no success.
Any suggestions ?

Not sure how to alter it though ?
One would think ie would go to your assigned homepage

I am working on configuring a kiosk for public use and have ran into issue in IE11 on Windows 7 OS.  When attempting to open a new window I receive "this page can't be displayed".  On this error page there is a button "fix connection problems".  If user selects button they are able to navigate through the troubleshooting and make their way to the control panel.  Is there a GP or registry where I can stop the prompting for "this page can't be displayed" or to disable the button "fix connection problems"?

When I try to open IE11 a dialogue box pops up asking if I want to save the web page. When I click it or cancel it IE closes. This also happens in other programs such as Foxit Reader but I can still access the program after I close the boxes. One program (H&R Blck Tax 2014) pops up the box and I save or cancel and the program stays open but the page is blank. I've tried all flavors of fixes I know and then some. Anybody have some ideas as to what might be causing this?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
First thought would be to use the link and exe file type restore reg files see what happens,
Default File Type Associations - Restore

You might need to do this using clean boot or safe mode with networking to download the reg files ?
Use Clean boot,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/179159-troubleshoot-application-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Safe mode with networking,
Shut down your machine, Unplug-Hold the power button down for 30/45 seconds (Power Drain)
Power up and Tap the F8 key continuously until you see a black page with white text,
Use the down arrow key to toggle to safe mode with networking/ hit the enter key.
Login as usual

I have an ASUS G75 running win8.  I have lots of RAM and a good internet connection (I get about 38Mbps down and 5 up).  My problem is page loading.  It can get painfully slow, specially if the page is ad heavy, but even pages that are short on ads can take 20-30 seconds to load.  I suspect I am having a problem with either Java or Flash, but don't know how to check further.

Any suggestions?

Simple really.
GPEDIT "turn off page zooming functionality" does not seem to work in 8.1 on my Toughpad 4K.
Am I missing something? A check of the registry shows that "ZoomDisabled" or whatever it was = 1 yet pinch zoom still works on 8.1
Notes: 10 is not an option, this is for embedded. Chrome et cetera are also not options for the same reason.
Registry, real working GPEdit good.
Requiring specially coded HTML if it works might be an option but I would prefer not to have to explore that canal.

I could go to www.charter.net and successfully follow the link to TV Listings
After upgrading to 8.1 with IE11 there is a small problem. It only shows a spinning wheel and not the listings.

It does the same on another pc I upgraded to 8.1 from the store.
If I use Chrome, the TV Listings shows properly.

Any ideas or solution to fix IE11 without switching to Chrome for one page?

Thank you.

A:IE11 failing to load 1 link on page after 8.1 update

In IE11, you should be able to upper right corner to Tools then to Compatibility View settings, just click the Add button then just add that page to the list of pages that require compatibility mode.

While preparing standard system image Build 1511 of Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit (workgroup, non-domain, stand-alone PC) I am experiencing an issue with IE11. This is a clean install, no software loaded, no IE add-ons other than defaults, no user accounts save the Admin account, no tweaks other than logging turned on, Windows updates not even run yet.

While logged in under the built-in Administrator account if I leave the Local Security Policy/Security Options setting of "User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-In Administrator account" DISABLED then IE11 works fine. If I ENABLE this setting then reboot, IE11 then fails to load some pages (page not responding, long hang followed by the error report and IE must be re-launched). Specific pages consistently cause this (so they have been my test pages). Kelley Blue Book - New and Used Car Price Values, Expert Car Reviews generates the issue consistently as does Online data backup software - Download SyncBackPro | 2BrightSparks If I install Firefox or Chrome it works fine in those browsers and also on Edge.

I have reloaded several times from clean install, reformat and this continues to happen. I could just dismiss it however I am conerned other pages may also fail and many things withing our company, sadly, require IE for one reason or another. I have tried this on a clean laptop and desktop and the issue happens on both. If I try it on a Hyper-V install from the same build the error message appears b... Read more

IE11 is returning a blank page from support.microsoft.com. This is essentially a new install of 64bit Win 7. IE returns the page when I am in the Administrative Account. Hi
I have recently upgraded 32bit and 64bit windows 7 laptops from IE9 to IE11, with IE10 and 11 admin templates used. EPM for 64bit is disabled. One IE policy shared by 32/64bit laptop.
The intranet main web page has a number of links to internal servers web applications, external websites, external servers.
In IE9 there were no issues connecting to all the links 32bit and 64bit laptops.
After upgrade of IE11 on 32bit laptop all the links work.
After upgrade of IE11 on 64bit laptop NOT all the links work for internal servers web application. But all links work on the same machine if i use another browser like chrome.
Here is something even more odd, if i click an external site in the IE11 browser and then go back to the intranet home page all the links work. But if i open up a new tab, go to the intranet home page and then click the internal website pages it does not
work until i click an external link.
Does anyone know what would cause this or how to monitor/track where the problem lies. Only effects 64bit laptops and kicks into life when clicking on an external site, but always works in chrome.

Hi,
I'm having an issue customizing the Start Page registry key in Windows Server 2019 (this method works fine in 2016) I would load C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT and add \Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Start Page REG_SZ "Company specific URL"
and when a new user logs in they'd get the "Company specific URL" but with Windows Server 2019 this isn't working.
I have also tried adding "First Home Page" and "Default_Page_URL" and it doesn't make a difference, it seems some sort of mini setup is configuring the registry keys and ignoring or overwriting what I entered into NTUSER.DAT from the
Default user profile.
I've also got IE Enhanced Security Configuration disabled for Admins and Users along with the following other registry keys set that all are working fine.
[HKEY_USERS\DefaultUser\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Friendly http errors"="no"

[HKEY_USERS\DefaultUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"AutoDetect"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_USERS\DefaultUser\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"DisableFirstRunCustomize"=dword:00000001

Wondering if anyone has found a workaround or missing key that also needs to be set, thanks.

Hi there

IE11 seems to have a strange "Feature". When you close a Web site with an active download the whole thing closes and the download disappears -- IE 11 shows no windows open.

However press CTRL+J and you'll see the download lists again. If there's no activity press PAUSE and then press RESUME and then it should continue from where it stopped.

To some this might seem obvious but I've seen people re-start a 2hr download because they thought they had lost their currently active download when they accidentally closed the web site.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi guys. I have a problem with Internet Explorer 11. It tries to download every web page I visit. Now I can't open the Get Windows 10 app and I can't log in to my Microsoft Account in OneNote 2013. I tried to reset IE using Internet Options, but clicking on it in Control Panel or in Internet Explorer doesn't do anything.
Microsft Fix it 50195 (for reseting IE) says:

Quote:
There was a problem starting inetcpl.cpl
Invalid access to memory location.

I ran a boot-time scan with Avast and it found one thread (Win32:Rootkit-gen [Rtk]) in the file C:\Program Files\Tbccint\ToolbarService\ToolbarService.exe and moved it to the chest.

I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it found a few PUP-s (a few where some of my Chrome extensions).
I used System Restore to restore my PC a few days back but it couldn't complete the restoration (although it uninstalled some of my programs).

A few days later I ran again a boot-time scan with Avast and it didn't find any threads.

Btw. between the scans on the 24th and 28th I only installed HexChat.

Should I try to restore my PC using System Restore in Safe Mode? Or does someone have another idea?

Today, I did something that I had said I would never do; I installed Google Chrome. WHY???
It is very Simple; I have had a Gutfull of the issues IE 11 has been having in recent times - I tend to think after Updates, but not certain.
I last used IE 11 to open my Router Login Page (192.168.0.1) 9/03/2016, with no issues. Today, 27/03/2016, I needed to go into my Router again. When given this URL it just shows "Cannot open Page". I will point out here that Firefox does not have
this problem; Bang, straight into it and up comes the expected Login Page. Google Chrome is the same as Firefox.
I checked my Wife's Win 10 Laptop, IE 11 and after some Security chasing around, it finally presented the Page. Her Firefox returned the Page in seconds.
So it seems there is some conflict of interest between IE 11 and Win 64bit Pro.
What the hell is Microsoft doing in these times; They have become Experts in stuffing what were once great systems; In fact these hideous seem to have come to life since the advent of Win 10.
Is the same Win 10 Mob who are hellbent on destroying Win 7, so that we will go Win 10. I can assure you that will not happen. If I have to lose my Win 7 Business PC; Then it will be to Apple, a Company that has something that actually works.
Can anyone throw any light on this issue, as I have not found a fix that works on the Forums that I have searched.
Thank You
Owen Carlton

Hello again, Bleeping Computer...if you all have read my introduction, you'll know I'm here after other forums proved to be less helpful with certain issues than I would have liked. I'm here with another: I'm in use of a laptop which runs Windows 7 Starter, and have dealt with troubles in using Internet Explorer for quite a few years. It's all the more disheartening as it seems that Internet Explorer is gradually being phased out of relevance, both by popular websites and by Microsoft itself.

Again, it'd be pointless for me to completely copy the contents of the thread here, so I invite you to visit the thread for yourself:

Microsoft Answers: IE11 has constant page freezes, restarts, and crashes

Ironically, it is my most "popular" topic on the Microsoft Community, but haven't had any new activity from fellow users in recent months, and have had no word from Microsoft employee members in even longer. If anyone else could provide any new insight on the matter or offer some solutions, whether there or here, please feel free.

Thanks in advance

Also, feel free to visit my other thread, as I could really use some assistance there as well:

Frequently in IE11 when I click on something that would load a new web page, IE11 loads the menu bars, etc, but the actual page image/content does not load - IE just displays a blank (white) page. If I hit PFK 5 to refresh the page, the page reloads as it should have loaded the first time. Firefox and Chrome do not have this problem. Also, I've noticed that in IE11 I often have to click on an item a 2nd time in order for the browser to react. I have done no diagnostics up to now. I'm running an HP desktop PC, quad AMD cpu, 6GB memory, Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit with all Windows Updates applied. Anyone know how to fix IE11?

Hi and welcome to sevenforums,
Please post which security you use,
Also post your browser show all add-ons pages,
Gear symbol on the top right and Manage add-ons, Toolbar and extensions,

Review the links above my signature for how to take and upload screen shots here if you need to,
See what this does,
Use No Add-ons mode/ Click the Start button and type in the search box,
Internet explorer

Click on the suggestion (No Add-ons) or it?s located at,
Start/ All programs/ Accessories folder/ System tools folder/ No add-ons.

Same applies to ie11,
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/manage-add-ons#ie=ie-10-win-7

Also this can be used for No add-ons mode,
Add the Run box to the Start menu list,

Open the Run command and Paste this into it and Okay,
