PhotoStick Problems

Q: PhotoStick Problems

I recently purchased two 128gb Photosticks and am having problems with one (I haven't tried the other yet). I followed the instructions which came with the device and it scanned through all of my jpeg files on all three of my drives in a very short time. It then went about saving the images to the stick and I was astounded, and disappointed, that the process took more than ten hours to complete. At completion, all of my jpegs, less duplicates, appeared to be on the drive. The next day, when I reinserted the drive to do some editing, it showed that there was no images but that approximately seventy percent of the drive had bee used. I tried a number of USB ports with the same result. I decided to delete all of the images and start from scratch. The software confirmed that all images had been deleted, but the same amount of the drive was shown as being used. Attempting a reset to factory defaults gave the same result. I thought of formatting the stick but figured that I would also lose the programme so decided not to do this. I sent Photo stick a customer support email but received an automated response which said that I needed to contact them in 'real time' and, as there is a fourteen hour time difference, this would mean that I needed to do this after midnight and before six am. Are you able to help please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone,
Just bought photostick to extract photos from old desk computer and from old laptop.
In desk comp WindowsXP it shows ?disk not formatted?, in laptop Windows7 it shows ?removable device not recognised?. But I have one more laptop, which old too, but I recently cleared it to ?factory condition? and it has Windows7 and photostick perfectly well working with it. But this laptop is empty. So what might be wrong with my other devices and what to do with this photostick?

Hey I've been having major problems with my Laptop.
Every ten or so minutes when my McAfee 2010 security suite disables real-time scanning it'll re-enable itself causing a lot of alarming pop-up boxes which is slowing my computer. Not sure whats causing it but it seems like malware.
Next theres this process which starts at windows start-up (DivxUpdate.exe), I don't think this is actually a part of divx. I've read somewhere that it is a form of autorun malware, it consumes 99% of my cpu majorly slowing down my computer, I think I may have similar malware on here that are problematic.
Also my firefox frequently say that there's an unresponsive script which temporarily freezes my whole computer and when I finally manage to get to task manager I have to end the process which seems to be using a regular amount of cpu and memory.
I made a topic exactly 1 month ago but nobody answered so I thought I'd make a new one seeing as the problems are progressing and building up.

Thanks for any help I'm provided with.

Hi, about 2 days ago I turned on my pc and many weird things started happening...
first it took a lot of time for the explorer.exe to load, so the desktop or taskbar didn't appear until after maybe 10-15 minutes. Then, the taskbar looked really weird, it seemed like it had been cut horizontally, so you couldn't get to see the whole lower part of the taskbar (and it wasn't the screen size config... since I tried changing that and it didn't work). I thought it might be some kind of virus, so I opened Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I got the following message:

Failed to load control 'vbalGrid' from vbalsgrid6.ocx. Your version of vbalsgrid6.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.

Then also I noticed I can't paste anything anywhere... or drag things, so I can't copy paste things or cut-paste things... then since yesterday I no longer have a taskbar... and I also can't use the search function (not even when I go into My PC and click on the search icon... a frame appears on the left, just as it should, but it just stays blue)
Also, when I go into taskmanager, and go to processes the Username under all processes is blank (except for one: Inactive process... under SYSTEM) when normally many of them were under Administrator and others.

Hi This is my first time posting, and I have a lot of things causing problems with my computer, but to start off, here are my specs.

Windows 10 Pro
Intel Core i7-4770s CPU @ 3.10GHz
8 Gb Ram Corsaire Vengence 4x2
64 Bit
AMD Radeon HD 7700 GDDR5 1Gb (two of them w/ crossfire)
2 Tb 7200 Rpm Seagate HDD
z87-g45 Gaming Motherboard
Case: r5 Gaming Full size case
Power Supply: Corsair AX860
Fans: Rosewill Hyper Silence CPU fan, 2 stock front fans, 1 stock in back

So, to start off, I built this computer myself 2 years ago, and it has been running steadily without too many problems along the way, but earlier last year it began to have some much bigger problems.

Issue 1. Monitor Issues
I say this is a monitor issue, but i really doubt it has anything to do with the monitors them selves. What is happening every once in a while (about 3 times a week) the screens of my monitors will cut to black (it doesn't matter what I'm doing) and stay black for a few seconds before revealing the task bar at the bottom of the screen, and then the rest of my desktop slowly reveals itself. I've tried updating my video card drivers, but that hasn't helped.

Issue 2. Keyboard and Mouse Become unresponsive (System isn't frozen however)
Sometimes if I leave my pc idling in the lock screen, the keyboard will stop working, and when I come back, I can't log in. I can tell my computer is not frozen because the slideshow in the lock screen keeps moving and I can move my mouse (bu... Read more

Hi guys

This is my first post in this forum so hello!

Title was difficult to put succinctly so I will describe the problems I'm having.

I recently did a complete re-instal of XP Pro. I wiped all hard drives, installed a new one, physically cleaned inside of PC with air, resat all cards, upgraded to SP3 for first time, installed software slowly and carefully and installed Avira Antivirus, Agnitum Outpost Firewall (disabled Windows Firewall first) and also installed Spybot S&D.

So, I am having various problems that I've never had before:

1. Startup is quite slow - this could be to do with firewall and anti-virus loading up

2. If I have any USB external drives attached and on, the boot will hang

3. My system tray lacks several icons that should be there; volume control, anti-virus

4. Strange things with right-clicking causing system crash - e.g. I grabbed 3 photos off desktop, dropped them onto bin and right-clicked right away to empty bin - system hung and I had to hard crash out and restart PC

5. When I open my new internal second HD, it takes ages to display all the items (a lot of videos) slowly writing out all their dimensions down a list. If I try any right click actions whilst it's doing this, the system hangs

6. Browsers - I use Firefox, have the new v3 installed, I installed latest Java and Flash but have problems with some sites. One relies on Java for its online tutorial I need but all I get is a blank white screen with 'done' in th... Read more

I tried to un-install Office 2007. But it would not un-install. So I went online searching for answers. and I found this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/
I tried to follow the directions, but I think I got so overwhelmed and scared that I did not continue. But what I did do might have been the reason that I got more problems now.

Now I am not able to use my own Office XP 2002.
I am not able to re-install nor un-install any of the office products (2002 or 2007).

Tonight, I used the CD to re-install office 2007 (trial), I got the Error 1321:
"Setup cannot modify the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\office12\1033\PROTTPLV.XLS Verify that the file exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update.

A few days ago, I tried to re-install Office xp 2003, and I got similar Errors.

Hey Guys, first things first. I had an old hard drive from a crapped out laptop. My uncle gave me an USB Hard drive converter(unsure on it's brand, after it worked i threw out the box). Problem is that I used it several times between a mac and a pc(school and home computer) and now it give me an I/o error when I try to copy stuff and says it can't find the item when I try to delete something. I tried reformatting(all this is on a PC BTW). I tried plugging it into a mac at school, but it wouldn't show up as connected.

I just realised that I had a driver cd for it, but I have lost it and cannot find it(too many CD's to keep track of, lol), I was wondering if there was anything I could do to fix this problem. It is a fujitsu, 30 GB hard drive(though it when I was using it, it showed as a 20 GB) I would prefer not to have to buy a new adapter or hard drive. I would just like to use this, to store all my music on, because the hard-drive on this computer(it's only 40GB getting a new one soon) is getting cluttered with music.
Now for my second problem, which isn't really my problem at all, but I digress. My friend was using her microphone(on an XP Home) and half way through her conversation it cut out. I have got her to check all her sound settings, no low sound settings on her computer. She has tried recording messages but nothing happens as if a microphone is not plugged in. I gave her my microphone to try out with no avail. I had a feeling that it... Read more

About a week ago my comp was running fine and I had no problems. I was using Win XP Pro on my Advent 6414 PIII 1.1 GHz laptop and was using AOL to connject to the internet. I had Anti Virus guard working there too and thought things were ok....

I upgraded the AV Guard but halfway through the setup i had to turn the computer off.

When I started it up on Monday, there was a progress bar at the bottom of the screen consisting of really chunky white bars.

The XP screen hung there for ages and when it did finally load, the programs running were prone to freezing. Specific symptoms were the Display Properties panel locking up and then saying there was a WIN32.DLL error (Not Responding) and that it had to shut down. The desktop picture froze and each subsequent time i tried to start the computer it took longer and longer to start. The programs hung for longer and froze earlier and it got to the point where I lost everything. I had to reformat the entire hard drive and re-install XP.

Surely this would have cured the problems despite wiping out my extensive and dare I say excellent music collection..aaaarrghhhh!!
Alas it did not. i have re-installed XP only to find similar re-occurrences of the same problems...programs slow to load, Explorer locks up (the start menu is the main one) and now the pictures that I loaded for my desktop are being halved each time i start up.

I learned my lesson and now have Nor... Read more

A:XP Problems: Slow to load, DLL broken, freezes, modem problems the list goes on..

How much do you know about installing XP?
And, what options did you select during the process?

(No, it's not a simple, linear, process.)
First of all, if you wipe the drive you should do it properly. That is, you get a copy of the Disk Manager software from your hard drive's manufactuer and you use THAT to wipe the Hard Drive from a boot disk. Low-level format the drive, which means you write zeros to the entire drive including the boot sector. That gives you a truely blank drive.

Then when you do the XP install, windows thinks the drive is "Virgin" and does a complete partition and format. No information is retained.

If you wanted to be faste (but lazy) about it, you could just delet the partitions on the drive and then make new partitions, and then install Windows, but let's be sure we've done everytyhing we can to start with a blank slate, shall we?

But you're not done yet: You need to get the device drivers from your PC mfg's website. Otherwise, all the drivers that XP doesn't have aren't there, and your hardware is in "Default" mode (if at all).

NOTE: Before you start to do any of this, check with your OEM to see if they have any special "Non-DOS" partitions on your model of laptop. If they do, all this is for naught: You'll have to get them to put those partitions back on your machine before you begin re-installing.

Compaq did this a few years back to a number of their models, and it was a huge headache to ITs everywhere... Read more

This is my first post here, so I hope that I follow all of the rules. And thanks in advance for any help. My computer has been running slow for a while, and I think one of my kids might have gone to a website that allowed some malware in. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have noticed a few things, 1. Had a problem with Adobe acrobat reader, it wouldn't update for some reason, and couldn't open PDF files for a while, after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I think it is now working. Also noticed more recently when working in MS Word 03 every once in a while it won't let me save files. Now I am noticing that when I have Internet Explorer open for a while, IE tries to pop open a new window, to which the IP address is blocked by K9 web protection is the IP. After googling this IP address, I found a few posts leading me to think there might be a trojan kicking around on my pc. I have run MBAM and Hijackthis in an attempt to find the culprit, but MBAM comes up clean, and I can't find it on Hijackthis. Any help woould be appreciated.

for the past while now I have been having problems with the window on start up and my speakers on my laptop not working.

1-The problem started out with the speakers when I turned down the volume to nothing while playing a game and then I tried to turn it back up a few weeks later I got no sound out of the internal speakers. I tried all the options in the volume looking for anything muted with no results. I then tried to update the sound card drivers with the same results of no sound out of the internal speakers. I did try head phones as I was told by a friend to do so and I am able to hear sounds and music just fine.

2-After this first issue, I noticed that when starting my laptop I had a smaller then the normal screen when starting up, I also have this same size on my main screen. I have been able to change to a higher resolution to fill the entire screen but if I go any lower then the highest resolution I have a black boarder were the window should be.

I have upgraded to windows XP from windows ME erasing whatever information I could, hoping that a new operating program would solve this problem. But with my bad luck it hasn't changed. If you someone could help me resolve these problems I would be very grateful.

Thank you,

I only have problems with my CD-ROM drive. The DVD-ROM drive works fine. I generally have to stick a paperclip into the small hole under the ROM to pop it open. It's beginning to die. And now it won't read games. It seems to read CDs just fine.
IF I can get autrorun to start (1% of the time), the installation will fail even before it starts or about 3% of the way in because the files can't be copied or the last time, the kernel.exe message popped up. I can't update my drive because there is no update available (which i don't believe), and it's really beginning to tick me off. I just want to play some RCT And CIV3.
Is there any possible way to fix this?

Hope I am in the correct forum. I am not a "computer geek," so please bear with me whilst I try to explain this.

A few months ago I purchased Norton IS 2009. I uninstalled my old Norton 2005, then I installed 2009. Everytime it ran Idle Time Scans or Automatic Updates, it slowed my computer down to a trickle speed. I tried to ignore it, but it finally got to me. Tech support at Norton has not been too helpful either (I spent several hours a day with them this last week alone). They were never able to turn off Idle Time Scans no matter what they did. They re-installed 2009 twice to no avail. They changed my "paging file," which has something to do with expanding my "virtual memory" or something (I think). Nothing helped.

Finally, unable to stand it any longer, today I told them to get 2009 off of my computer, which they did. They installed 2006 in its place. 2006 does not seem to be slowing down my computer, thank goodness. However, ever since they started tinkering with things these last few days, all of a sudden I was unable to fully defrag Drive C or Drive D.

The funny part of it is Drive D is for CDs and DVDs, and as I recall it used to be 100% free space. Now, there are "unmoveable files" there, and it says I have only 97% free space there. Drive C, on the other hand, not only is unable to completely defrag, it also shows my available space has dropped from 38% to 31%. Before all of this happened, ... Read more

A:Problems with Defraging Hard Drives After Problems with Norton 2009

I suspect you're low on RAM (memory). Virtual memory is hard disk space that is used as if it were RAM. The file used for that is pagefile.sys, and is also called the page file (no surprise there). Naturally hard drive reads and writes are MUCH slower than from RAM, but if there's not enough RAM to run your apps, you don't have a choice. A hint of lots of pagefile activity is you hear the hard drive grinding a lot from all the reading and writing. I suspect Norton 2009 might take a lot of memory to run.

One thing about defragmentation is it's probably best to do it while your computer is idle. No reads or writes. No background processes (including background scans for antivirus or windows defender, or file sharing downloads/uploads). Close all programs (including tasks in the system tray), then do your defragmentation.

I'd recommend getting additional RAM if you only have 256MB. You can probably get a couple of GB for a reasonable price. Putting it in is pretty straight forward (you'll just need to look in the manual, and most important, protect yourself from static discharge). If you need guidance, get back to us.
I wrote a couple of posts on picking memory here
For XP I'd recommend at least 1GB (if you can afford it, go for 2GB; the more the better; if you're short on money, go for 512 at least)

I ended up getting the AV Security Suite virus or trojan horse on my old work laptop and so I am writing this message using my PC. I was going through this forum's tutorial on removing the AV Security Suite here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...-security-suiteI tried to enter the Safe Mode by pushing F8 on start up but nothing happened and so I took your advice and typed "msconfig" in the Run box and used the System Configuration Utility/BOOT.INI and did the /SAFEBOOT and then restarted. Well this worked great but my problem is that when I put in my usual password, it is incorrect. I have only had two passwords with this computer and neither of them are working. What do I do? The computer keeps opening in Safe Mode. As for the laptop, it is an old work computer that when the company closed down for good, they gave it to me for free. With that, I was not the Admin. How do I proceed? Do I need to create a floppy boot disk as noted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/create-floppy-boot-disk-in-windows/The computer does not have a floppy drive.Fester

Hi Fester,Unfortunately we cannot help you getting around a password. See also the board rulesNo subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures.I certainly see your problem, but the only thing I can suggest you, is contacting the company and obtaining the password or accessing your own non-administrator account.

Just now getting Xbox Live for my Xbox (I know so late, better late than never), and have got a couple of problems. I bought the 12 month free subscription (includes game and headset). I got all the way to joining a game, but it keeps telling me no matter which I try that I don't have a certain map or something. I had already went and downloaded all the content avaible (3 map packs were downloaded by me). What else can I do, if I have already downloaded those three. I can even see those 3 map packs downloaded on my xbox harddrive if I explore the dashboard.

Finally, those map packs were free weren't they? Sorry if these have been asked before, couldn't find them searching the forums. Thanks as always to one of the best forums around!

Edit: I did put my actual birth date in when registering, and it said something about my parents having to confirm something, but nothing has been sent (I put my email down). Also when trying to login to Xbox live forums it said I wasn't old enough to play on Xbox Live, which is weird because it won't even let me get into the forums for help.

I'm fixing a friends laptop - an ancient Toshiba Equium A110-252 (PSAB2E) which was riddled with trojans and viruses and formatting was the only route.

Reinstalled with windows XP (and service packs 1-3), reinstalled the drivers for sound, touch pad etc but can't get the wireless to work!

The card doesn't show up in device manager, which I've been led to believe means it needs a bios update. I read on a website that i needed to update to a version 2.4 or later, but one doesn't seem to exist for windows XP.

I'm struggling, and would like to get this done! Any suggestions please post or email. If you could point me in the way of the correct drivers/bios updates to get it working I would be very appreciative!

Cheers guys =]

A:Please help! Problems after format & fresh install - wireless adaptor problems.

have you already tried to just install the wireless network driver? the driver will look for the component if its available otherwise it just wont install.

You appear to have a Dell Inspiron 3252 desktop.
What's the exact "service tag" number and "express service code" number on yours?

It appears to have Realtek ALC3600-CG 5.1 channel high definition audio.
HERE is the Windows 10 64-bit driver for it.

You should consider getting rid of the IObit-related apps that are installed in that desktop.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP. The Wireless adapter is an Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter. The wired adapter is Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. The router is a Netgear 54 mbps Wireless Router model WGR614 v6.

Here's my situation: Anytime I try to connect to the internet, I get stuck with "Limited or no connectivity". When I scroll over the wireless icon to see what the problem is, it seems to be stuck on acquiring network address. Every other time this has happened to me, I simply reset my modem and router and *poof* it was fixed. This time it didn't work. i tried repairing the connection, I tried using "ipconfig" in the command prompt to release and renew my IP address, still, nothing. I tried connecting my computer directly to the modem via LAN, and it had the same problems.

I'm fairly certain it isn't the modem or the router, because all the other computers in my house are accessing the internet just fine (like the one I'm using now). We don't have encryption or any other different settings on our router. It seems to be something with my computer, since I can't connect either by LAN or wireless. I checked the device manager, nothing is problematic.

When I check the Wireless Network Connection Status, I see that (at this moment) 550 packets were sent, 0 received. When I look at my Network Connection details, it says my IP address is, my subnet mask is ... Read more

About 3 or 4 days ago I installed a new motherboard (Gigabyte MA785GMT-UD2H), processor (Athlon X2), RAM (4GB Crucial), HDD (so it's essentially a new PC). After installing XP Home and then gradually installing updates (SP3 is installed) and my usual assortment of programmes and utilities (nothing too out of the ordinary - iTunes, browsers, Office, spyware utilities, Security Essentials), my PC now has a number of glitchy problems whenever I boot it up at the beginning of the day. I can get past them by rebooting roughly 4-5 times; eventually it will run smoothly. I've kept notes of some of the most recurrent problems:

- Generic Win32 service closes on start-up. Result is frequently that when I try to open My Documents or My Computer, the taskbar and desktop icons disappear for a few seconds, then reappear. Often after a few attempts my desired folder will eventually open.

- AntiMalware Service Executable closes on start-up. Result is Security Essentials deciding it cannot update and thinks it's out of date.

- ATI Catalyst Control Centre (for the onboard GPU) closes on start-up. No noticeable effects.

- Google Chrome (my preferred browser) browser windows crash - i.e. I get the 'aw snap!' page, the whole thing doesn't close. This occurs even after disabling extensions, so they do not seem to be the cause.

...And less frequently, I have also had the following happen:

- On boot-up, a window pops up with: 'Procedure entry point Md5final could not be located in ... Read more

Hi. Thanks for the opportunity to post my woes here.

I have been fighting my computer for a couple of weeks and I am throwing in the towel after many sleepless nights and much frustration , thus this post. All help gratefully received.

I am running windows xp with sp2 on an HP Pavilion with intel pentium 4 processor. I am currently using system mechanic 6 pro with its Kaspersky antivirus and Spython for spyware and malware. Previously I was using AVG free until about 6 weeks ago. Prior to that, Nortons. (I got rid of Nortons because it seemed to be making my computer very slow, which is now kind of ironic .)

Anyway, for the last few months, this computer has been constantly beset by annoying bugs of the kind which slow down everything. I have been using lavasoft's adaware and always find when the computer slows that there is one ore more registry errors. I also have been using SpyBot to keep this computer afloat which usually picks up some tracking cookies etc only.

Lately though, the 'bugs' are more and more frequent and the computer slows to a crawl at every session, until this week when it just remained operating at a snail's pace and I don't seem to be able to locate and fix the problem. I have tried changing browsers, to no avail.

Also, the windows installer keeps starting up by itself and trying to install frontpage 2000 - without any instruction from me. I have to hit cancel 3 times when the little box comes up to install frontpage 2000 ... Read more

Hi, I have a hotmail account, but prefer to use OE for sending/receiving. I am on dialup and loading a page for every email is too slow.

This past week, every time I've opened OE, Ive had to synchronize the account to show the hotmail folders. Then every message in each folder has to be re-downloaded. 'Set program access and defaults' is set to use OE, but each time I return to that page, the settings have been changed.

Today I had OE open all afternoon while writing emails and all my folders disappeared again and a message appeared "there are not any folders to show for this account. would you like to view a list of available folders now? y/n". I dont know why this is happening, but I would just love my email folders to stay put for a change.

While browsing on this site several days ago, the pages wouldn't load fully. So I clicked refresh, the page would refresh partially, then freeze, then refresh itself again. After that only about half the threads on each page were shown. I was viewing the world cup thread and it was showing only about the first 12 - 15 posts on each page.

Entering this site tonight a similar thing was happening. The top part of the page would load - from the red bar and above, but nothing below. Refreshing the page helped, but it would still not load to the bottom, and am unable to read the last few posts on each page. The same is happening on other websites, but not all. The particulars are regarding a 32 bit version of Vista Home Basic Edition on an Everex laptop. It began giving startup error messages about an imminent hard drive failure months ago, requesting F1 to continue. Eventually the messages began to appear while the PC was running. The user disabled the msgs and the laptop continued to function for months, without any apparent problem beyond the boot msg.

I ran chkdsk 3 times in a row and saw the exact same named cluster errors every time, although the utility said after each pass that they'd been repaired. Then I ran the HDAT2 utility. It ran for about 7 hours, and it also said that it had repaired clusters. Subsequent boots however. always gave the same imminent HDD failure msg, press F1, etc....

Although it's an Everex laptop, I have no Everex CD, so I tried to boot using a 32 bit Dell Vista Home disk. I hear a lot of noises. But I never get a thing to pop up on the screen. Same non-result with a Spotmau Bootsuite CD. The only thing I got to work on a disk was the one with the HDAT2 utility. So I put the Vista disk in a disk reader which plugs into a USB port. (It's a Targas DVD-ROM reader). I wasn't sure just how to change the boot order in setup to access the disk in the reader so I simply put the hard drive last. Didn't do a thing - it just attempted to boot from the HDD. By this time it was blue screening with an unmountable boot volume, so I put another hard drive in the laptop. It won't boot from it - although I am offe... Read more

On Sunday my laptop (running windows XP Home Edition) froze up and when I rebooted discovered EVERY file was having LOST CLUSTER problems. When I finally was able to get into windows most major functions such as IE 6.0 browser and Outlook Express would not work properly. I was able to run a registry fix program I had and it 'corrected' over 330 errors in the registry. However, it still has not corrected my problem.

I use Earthlink and I contacted them this morning and they suggested I run SFC /SCANNOW and re-install IE. However, I get the following error:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been such down to prevent damage to your computer

Please can any one help me. I am not sure what happened but now most systems are not working. I hope I'm placing this in the right section, if not, then could someone tell me where to put it and I'll post it again.

I've got a Samsung RV510 laptop with Windows 7 HP 64 bit.

About 2 weeks ago, I was watching a Youtube video, had Spotify and Facebook open too, and my computer suddenly went all BSOD on me.

I turned it off and on again. It came up with a message like 'A problem has occurred whilst loading up your computer, what would you like to do?' I chose 'launch startup repair', which takes a couple seconds, then I choose the other option of 'start Windows normally'. I could get onto Safe Mode. Sometimes it would say 'Operating System not found.'

The computer will then load normally and I can be on it fine.

However, I then started to get Norton Confidential and Shockwave Flash crashes in Google Chrome. I disabled Norton Confidential and thus didn't get that error anymore. Shockwave Flash however did still occur as disabling it means I can't watch Youtube videos and do some other stuff. Sometimes my screen would go blank, and it looks like Chrome refreshed itself due to some problem.

I then used Norton Power Eraser (I have Norton Internet Security 2011 otherwise, and I did many live updates and scans to see if there was anything there, but nothing) to see if there were any problems. It came up with one file that was a possible threat which was msvcrt.dll so I did as it recommended and deleted it. I restarted the computer and now I can't it won't go past the Win... Read more

A:Can't start up my computer. (Driver problems, BSOD, other problems)

First rule out infection. Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking to run a full scan with Malwarebytes.

If this fails download, burn to CD or write to flash stick Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper, boot it to run a full scan.

Boot into System Recovery Options using the WIn7 DVD Repair console (option two) and run Startup Repair repeatedly from the list.

If this fails, open a Command Prompt to SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.
If it finds System files to repair it may need to be run several times.

If probs persist, next run System Restore from the Recovery Tools list.

If these all fail, boot into free Partition Wizard bootable CD. Make sure Win7 or it's 100mb Boot partition (preferred) are marked Active. Then click on HD to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, Apply, reboot. If Win7 doesn't start, try same again with Active flag moved to Win7 partition itself. Next again try running Startup Repair 3 Separate Times with Active flag in original position and then Win7 partition.

If all fails, copy out any needed files using Win7 DVD or REpair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then run full Factory Recovery from its partition at boot, Recovery Disks or image you've saved, or the Win7 installation DVD following these steps to get a perfect reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

If you get it started or recover using factory image, I would follow these steps to Clean up factory bloatware replacing bloated Norton with free Mi... Read more

Hi, I hope you can help me, i'm having a bit of a problem and i'm too scared to fiddle around trying to do things myself, I have the feeling i'd just mess it up

I've literally just started having problems with my computer. Sporadically I have lost the ability to right-click, sometimes whenever I do so on either a folder or on an application, no little menu comes up (i'm sounding like a right expert here!).

Also, when browsing through folders, the loading starts to become very slow and sometimes the blue menu at the side of the window isn't there at all. When I click on images to preview, or folders to open, sometimes nothing happens at all and the window just remains the same.

ALSO whilst trying to open some applications I get the error pop-up sound, but no error message box comes up to tell me what the error is. It just makes the noise, and I close the half-loaded application without it crashing (This happened with Photoshop, Adaware, Outlook Express, and once with Sonic RecordNow - all started loading, the error noise was heard, and the program left half loaded or missing parts) I've tried again and it seems it's all hit and miss like the other symptoms...sometimes i'll be able to right-click normally, sometimes i'll be able to browse files normally, sometimes programs will load, but the problem still (at random moments, it seems) arises again.

I have this problem where sometimes for some unknown reason for me when I open Internet Explorer it doesn't display the images. Every image has a red X and it didn't even try to load. Note that I do have my browser set to view images and can view them about 2/3 of the time. Does anybody know why or how to fix it? I have the newest edition of IE. It says "Error on page." in the status bar on all the web pages I go to.

The second problem deals with a pesky russian porno site. I am a student of russian and as I was doing research for my final paper I ended up at this website http://www.pretty.ru/ which has taken over my ability to set my home page. Every time I open my browser I change my home page to what I want and every time I open it, it goes back to the russian porno site. I figured it was in the cookies so I deleted what I had and now whenever I open IE it asks me if I want to download something from the pretty.ru website. I don't understand does anybody know whats wrong?

Maybe the russian porn offended my browser and that's why it won't display images.
