Q: Wont start just loops to start options screen

Did not boot merely loops to start options screen but no options work and I am returned to the same options screen.
Have tried advanced start up options "disable auto restart" to generate BSOD which gives the following:

Preferred Solution: Wont start just loops to start options screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No matter what option i pick in the safe mode list, the computer will not start. when i choose any of the safe modes, (safe mode, safe mode with networking etc) the computer displays a list of random commands (i dont understand any of it) and then restarts. If I try to Start Windows Normally, or use last settings that worked, it seems to start loading, and then restarts.

Any ideas?

Run a system file check to look for corrupt files. It will try to do repair if any found.

Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.......
sfc /scannow

> press Enter.
It will take quite sometime.
When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports...............(paraphrasing)
1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupt files and repair successful.
3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

If the report is #1, your solution lies elsewhere.
If the report is #2, check if your problems have been resolved.
If the report is #3, use this method................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

Hi, using windows 7, have a blue screen at start up issue, memory dump. Sadly the PC wont start so unable to try too much, it lets you select user, attempts to ,log onto the user then just goes to mthe blue screen and starts the cycle again. Any ideas?? It will not start in safe mode either, basically the same result although sometimes it loads and you are in but when you try to do anything it goes to the blue screen again. I did get the error code (not always the same on the blue screen but this one comes up most time), "driver IRQL not less or equal"
Many thanks

Hello, I have win 8.1 x64 Core installed.
The thing is, i want to remove some items from my start screen and right clicking does not bring up any menu (which it used to on my previous win 8.1, this is new installation).
WEe, I deleted some files which were actually looking like shortcuts (had arrow below icons, like shortcuts) in C:\Users\ (and directories in it), thinking that these shortcuts are just useless. And I think this somehow caused the problem.
Anyways, now I want to remove a few thing from my start screen and no option is appearing. Is there any way to manually remove them?

Heres a screenshot->

Same thing happens in the "detailed" start screen, the checkmark appears, but no menu to do anything.

So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

A:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

Hey.

My toshiba laptop was working fine yesterday. This morning when I turn it on I see start-up repair or start normally. I always make sure to use shut down so that screen shouldn't show but it did. I didn't install any new software/updates.

So now I try normal, "Starting Windows" then there is a quick bluescreen that restarts laptop without me being able to see what the bluescreen says.

Next option was to try start-up repair. It says windows is loading files. Then 'Microsoft corporation' but the bar doesn't load at all it just goes to a black screen. And when I let it sit for awhile, cursor appears and I can move it around but nothing else.

Now about the CD/USB fresh installing. When I went to BIOS,put default, save, restart, and change settings boot from USB or CD, tried both of those but for those it loads windows files then stuck on Starting Windows.

I tried my windows CD I bought and also USB/CD home made copies by downloading it and burning. Same Starting Windows error.

Please help I would like a clean install for I don't have anything of importance to need to back-up.

A:Only options: Start-up repair, Start normally. CD/USB boot no result.

I have a Compaq Presario C571NR Notebook PC snd it is running XP. Whenever I try to power it on it gets to the XP Screen where it just starts over again. It goes to a screen that says "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this."
Then, I can choose between 'Start Windows Normally', which does nothing, 'Last known Good Configuration', which does nothing, and 3 others that I haven't tried. They are 'Safe Mode', 'Safe Mode with Networking' & 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt.'
It will then try to Restart but goes through all of the same motions.
Might there be a cure ?

According to its product specs section and the HP Recovery Center, that notebook originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

That notebook is about 8 years old, and we have no idea how it's been used and what's installed in it, so the operating system probably needs to be reinstalled so it can get a fresh start.

I'd suggest first slaving your hard drive to another PC and attempting to recover your data. If you have access problems when recovering it, here's a link that'll help: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/42756/how-to-fix-an-access-denied-errors/Once the data is recovered it'll be a lot less stressful trying to fix your Operating System. It appears that the OS has been corrupted, so I'd suggest a repair install of Windows XP as a first attempt. If you have Internet Explorer 7 installed, this may be a problem tho' - but this article has instructions for uninstalling it in the Recovery Console: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917964If you're unable to uninstall IE7, then I'd suggest skipping the repair install in favor of a format of your hard drive (wipes all data out) and a fresh installation of Windows. Then follow the directions here for a repair install: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Warning: Following these steps will cause you to lose all programs, pictures, and any other data on your computer.

You know guys Ive been reading through all these XP posts and Ive noticed that many of you are having the same problem. when you turn on your computer the computer goes to the start up screen and just sits there. It will not boot up no matter what you do. Ive fixed this problem on 6 different computers in the last month. I believe its being caused by a virus going around thats quite insidious. Because the virus is very hard to find if not untetectable. Even if if Im wrong about the cause the only way Ive been able to fix this problem is to format the HD and reinstall the operating system Im sorry to say. The only way Ive been able to do this with the computer having this problem is to boot from a XP disc and sometimes this presents quite a challenge. You absolutely must go into your bios by pressing f12 as the computer first starts, (I belive its f12 perhaps someone could make sure thats correct for me) then setting your cd rom to boot first. This must be done properly for you to be able to boot from your CD. once youve done this and saved settings in bios turn your computer off, place the XP disc in the drive and turn your computer back on. If youve done this part correctly as soon as your computer turns on you will hear the cd rom start and you will get a screen asking if you want to boot from the CD. Thats a great sign!! Your on your way now. Make sure you ... Read more

I actually signed up at this forum to ask about a System Restore problem I've been having (A few weeks ago I did a system restore on my laptop to mid-August '09 and then got error messages when attempting to restore back to the present time) but as of just now I have a new, much more pressing problem.
I restarted my laptop in safe mode an hour or so ago to attempt to do a system restore while in safe mode, just to see if that might work since I always get an error when trying to do a system restore normally. The system restore loaded up and the blue progress bar got about 1/6th of the way across and then stopped. I let it load and after 45 minutes of absolutely no progress in starting up with the system restore, I manually shut down the computer. I turned it on again after a minute and it began to boot up, showed the HP logo, went black, then the Windows XP loading screen, went black, then the HP logo again, black again, Windows XP loading screen again, etc etc and just looped again and again. I let it continue this for about 15 minutes but it just kept looping. I pressed the F8 key while it was doing this and selected it to start in Safe Mode, only to have the same looping sequence continue again and again. I had to manually shut down the laptop again, and after attempting to turn it on and have it boot up a few more times I've run into nothing but more of the same endless looping process.

What can I do about this? What caused it and is there any way to fix i... Read more

After only just having one problem solved on here I have encountered another and I think it is fairly problematic but am far from understanding it - please help!!!

I downloaded the new version of Internet Explorer (version 8) as this was an option when I signed onto the web this afternoon (I previously had IE 7 and am running Windows XP version 2).

But after downloading this I had trouble getting onto the net (though I seemed to be able to initially). So I restarted the PC. But, it did not restart.

Instead I get the following message on a plain black screen when I try to run my computer:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

What is this file? I have an Acer Aspire notebook which came installed with Windows XP Version 2 (I have no CD drive currently).

I have looked on the microsoft website (I am currently on a different PC) but dont understand anything that is posted on their about this problem.

Do I need to re-install a new operating system? Will this mean I will loose all my data that is on my computer? This is very precious to me as I am travelling and I have saved on my computer photos and diary entries - I would be very upset to loose them.

What is my best course of action? Should I take it to a specialist. Again I really hope I can prevent the information that I did have saved on there from being deleted.

Thankyou to anyone who can assist.

I don't know where anything is at after installing windows again, my cd did not have the repair option and everything is completly different on my computer now. Even the graphics are not how they were just a few days ago.
I got home from a concert and there must have been a power outtage in the house. Turned on the computer and it just went into a loop, got a blue screen and then a "Windows Error Recovery" screen. Hi LASlim,1.) What is your computer make and model number?2.) Did the recovery DVD come with your computer and are there more than one disk? 3.) What is the label on the recovery disk that you used? Installing Vista on drive D: may be a mixed blessing. Your original Vista files are probably accessible, that's good, but whatever data was on Drive D has no doubt been overwritten. How to find your old files:Double click on "My Computer" on the Desktop or "Computer" in the Start Menu.Drive C: is your new installation of Vista; without your old files.Look for a higher drive letter D,E,F,G, etc. that is not a CD or DVDROM drive. You should be able to find your original Vista installation.Your old Documents folder would be located here: "Users\<your old username>\My Documents."I recommend that you backup all important files to an external hard drive because you should alway have important data backed up.Whether you then copy this data to the new Vista location or elect to re-install Vista to it's original drive is up to you.Let us know the answers to the above questions and how you make out with your data files.

Please try using this to repair the broken registry entry that may be causing this.Download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click HERE if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.

I dont know if anyone has answered this or helped you yet. I dont know how old the laptop is but my first guess would be that your motherboard has gone bad.replacing the motherboard could be expensive and might cost more than the computer is worth. if you dont want to buy a new computer theres lots of good used computers out there with vista or windows 7 whatever one you would prefer.if its not the motherboard a bad graphics card might also be the culprit. I hope this has helped you.

hi,hopefully somebody can help me with my problem.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook Cf-29, System a 512 MB and 80 GB. It has a intel pentium processor 1200MHZ.

My computer was having some problems before it got messed up. As long as the computer was on the internet ever 15 or 20 min a audio advertisement would pop up out of no where. There was no window to exit it out and i also tryed CTRL+ALT+DEL and it would show no window was up.Also everytime id go to google.com and search something it would redirect me to another web site.

Well i was on my computer today and it froze so i restarted it.
The blue Panasonic screen comes up and then a solid black screen comes up and nothing after that.

I tryed F8 and clicking "Last knowin good configuration" and after the screen turns black but the computer is still on because the light is green.

i tyed safe mode also and it stops going at:
Windows/system32/drivers/isapnp.sys
and then it wont go any further than that.

i also tryed debugging mode and the black screen comes up and nothing after that.

I tryed putting the system recovery disk(1 of 3) in but nothing comes up. For some reason the disk never starts up,even when its working..I can go to "my computer" and it says recovery disk and once i click on it theres tons of folders in there but for some reason it never works...

Hi, I have a dell inspiron 1525 labtop. It was working fine, ran some updates then on the reboot it would not go past the post. The screen turns black with a blinking cursor at the top.
I tried unplugging everything, rebooting by taking out battery, and holding down power button.
The only menus I get are F2 and F 12, no F8.
I tried rearranging the boot order, I changed the Ram around I tried each by themselves.
I have a reinstallation cd, the repair did not work and I wasnt sure about completly redoing the installation.
It wouldnt let me put in a new partition.
I would appreciate any advice!!!!!
Thanks, Lisa

Did the repair installation start?

That model comes with a recovery partition, where did you get the installation disk?

Hi everyone!

My friend has a huge problem. First, let me tell you what happened before the incident. His PC was fine until it started to get really slow. It happened from one day to another. It needed ages for every single step (like opening the internet browser etc). After installing the anti malware software (malwarebytes) and the anti virus programme (avira) everything was fine again. The objects they found have been removed and after that the PC would work normally again.

Our happiness didnt last long cos after 3 days he wanted to turn his PC on and there was a blue screen stating the following:
A problem has been deteced and windows has been shut down to prevent damage.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ---> look at enclosed pic

The only option we had was to restart so we did. After that the PC keeps restarting itself without showing anything on the screen.

We tried to get into the bootmenu to select "repair computer" or "turn on in safe mode" but pressing F8 or any other key wouldnt help.
Only thing that works is F12 which opens up the BIOS menu.

I really hope you can help us.

A:PC wont start normally. Just keeps restarting itself. (black screen)

One of the main things that might help you in diagnosing that BSOD is the STOP error code: 0x0000000A. A quick Google search revealed this from Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/KB/314063. Although sometimes their solutions are even more cryptic than their error codes.

Other results indicate a hardware failure. A good test would be to boot with an alternate boot CD like Linux. If it crashes with the boot CD most likely it's a hardware issue. Wish I could be of more help but it's tough to say without sitting in front of it.

Pull out all unnecessary hardware and peripherals, like extra usb devices, sound cards, other expansion cards, etc, even video card if it has onboard video. Then try starting it again (you may discover which device is causing the problem - or it might keep doing it, but this is what I would try)

my hp notebook has a black screen with a white curser. i have tried a recovery disc, running a system diagnostic which tells me it all passed, i have tried a hard reset, and my safe mode wont come up. i have tried just about everything someone please help.

A:windows 7 wont start up and gives me a black screen

For some reason your OS partition may not be set to active, or your boot order in your bios may be wrong. First thing I would check your boot order in the bios, and check to make sure it can see your hard drive.

How to set a partition to active, I found a thorough guide here.

See if you can start in safe mode. If you can go back with system restore.
If that fails try a recovery DVd
Create a Recovery Disc

I have a Gateway Laptop Model No. W340UI with Windows 7 . A while ago I was playing a game I installed on it. Suddenly the game froze while I was leaving for lunch. After lunch I went back and it was till frozen, so I turned it off. Then I turned it on again and after the startup screen, the one that says Starting Windows, the screen would turn pitch black and all I could do was move the mouse. Then it would restart and the process would repeat itself. Then after a few hours, the System Recovery Tools appeared so I clicked the Startup Repair. It searched for repairs, but after it started Attempting the repairs, I noticed that it would never stop. It has literally been Attempting Repairs for 24 hours and nothing is happening. It won't let me do a System Restore and I never created a system image. Now whenever I Start Windows normally, right after the Starting Windows the screen flashes blue then restarts. Someone please help me!

I opened the PC case, I can see that everything is ok, the fans are running, the graphic card fan is running, there is a green light on the motherboard which I assume is ok. But it shows a blank screen on the moniter, plus the keyboard doesnt power up.

The mointor isnt the problem as I've had it tested it on another PC

Im hoping anyone would know a solution to this.

Thank you

Geforce GTX 260

I can't open my Microsoft Outlook - when I start it it states it wasn't shut
down properly and asks if I want to start it in safe mode. If I
select no I get a message "Could not start the RPC server' and then I
get a blank outlook screen. It doesn't work if I select to start in
safe mode either.

Any ideas? As non techie as possible.

Thanks
