Programs not compatible

Q: Programs not compatible

I upgraded to win 7 64bit. and now some of my programs won't load due to compatibility issues. Can it be fixed?

Preferred Solution: Programs not compatible

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Programs not compatible

You could check online at the programs' website to see if they have an updated compatible version that you could download and install instead.

If not, then you could see if using compatibility mode on the programs may help.

AVG antispyware used to work just fine on my computer..

Bought a new laptop and been having problems with bsod every day, which came up as Driver IRQL not less or equal and further down, tcpip.sys. I left it at the sellers for a check-up and they could find no problems but will be restoring it to default. My question is what programs are safe to install when I get it back? The only programs I had installed on it were PC Tools Spyware Doctor, Norton and Microsoft Office (also normal applications like lastfm and spotify.) Are any of these known to be incompatible with Windows 7? Some forums have been saying bad things about PC Tools, some about Norton, and recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. Can anyone give any input about what programs are better/worse or proven to make the system unstable? Would be much appreciated //Anna

A:programs compatible with windows 7?

The error was most likely caused by out of date drivers (more than likely vista drivers) being loaded on the system. We see that here several times a day if not more. Many of the bsod problems in win 7 are either over zealous security programs, or bad drivers. The remaining few generally being caused by bad hard ware. The techs at the seller are rarely properly qualified to diagnose these issues. The people that are get higher paying jobs in the IT sector.

Anyhow if the problem occurs after you get it back you can follow the bsod posting instructions here http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

and let the bsod troubleshooters here have a crack at helping you with it.

The program that I want to uninstall is not compatible with vista and is not listed on the program files therefore I cannot remove it. I have tried system restore to a point before installation but this is coming up with an error so will not restore. Is there any other way? The software I want to remove was for the HP psc 2100 printer.

A:Uninstalling Programs Not Compatible With Vista

Is it an HP PSC 2100 or some other 2100 model? Looks like there are 2105 through 2179 series printers. You need the exact model number. It looks like there are Vista drivers for all of the 2100 series drivers listed. Try http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodTop...;cc=us&dlc= and see if it has a compatible driver.

My baby runs on Windows XP now, but I remember when I had (was stuck with) Win95, and it had a delightful telephony/fax program called "Aptiva Communications Center". Being on an extremely tight income, would anyone know of a similar freeware package that's compatible to the Canada/U.S. telephone system?

The old IBM is long gone & I tried to transfer the file to my baby (WinXP) but it's like the ol' square-peg-in-round-hole thingy.

The adobe stuff will probably need an update to run. Adobe has them on thier website. Photoshop will need to be updated to 6.0.1 (free update)

Not sure about print shop.

Generally, I have not had as much trouble out of software as with hardware. I would research my webcam, printer and any scanner to see if it has XP support.

For Software, you can always try the compatability mode of XP.

I need to know what anti-virus software is compatible with win xp pro?

A:What anti-virus software programs are compatible with win xp pro?

Here is an paragraph from an article listed at
TIP 7. Don't Ask for Virus Problems

Most users have antivirus software installed either at work or home. If you don't, you definitely need to invest, not only in a package of software, but in the subscription to the updates. Office XP is a new product and your antivirus software may not be compatible. All reputable vendors have upgrades to integrate with Office XP. If you are having problems with the latest updates for your antivirus software, contact the software vendor immediately and ask for the update/upgrade that is compatible with Office XP.

However reviewing many AV products only one lists XP as compatible. Draw your own conclusion upon review. It is possible
the programs can be upgraded or already cover XP but their websites do not mention that.

Hope that gives you some leads.

I've decided to try my hand at building my own PC. I intend it to be a medium - high end gaming computer. I've got everything figured out (at least I hope) I'm just wanting a second opinion about my choice of motherboard and CPU. I'm pretty sure they are compatible, at least in theory, I was just wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with them, or any advice for me. Hey, if you feel like it, recommend something bigger and better. I have a pretty good budget for this (within reason of course, nothing too outrageous).

CPU : AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60GHz, 4MB Cache, 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Retail, Socket AM2+, with Fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4016668&CatId=3496)

Motherboard : FX nForce 750a SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HDMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3930721&CatId=13)

One big question I have, however, is whether a GeForce 8800GT graphics card with its super long design would fit correctly or at all in that motherboard. The 2nd PCI-E slot has to be the first one used, so I couldn't put it in the top slot. I think it would fit, but not quite sure.

Anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to have a read through this, and an extra thanks to anyone with any advice or comments.

A:Compatible, or not compatible, that is the question.

why can u not use the first slot? the only problem should be with the case. put the mem. in before u put the video card in.

It began when I was browsing and out-of-the-blue a popup saying "HDD Failure - etc. etc. We recommend you restart your machine" came up, it looked legit so I checked out my PC to see some desktop items (not all) had dissappeared. Naturally I restarted machine and went on my normal user;

- my desktop was completely black and their were no icons, their were only a few programs listed in all programs aswell.

- A program called "Windows XP Fix" was running, it was obviously false software, I managed to delete its root (i think) from All Users / Application Data / 01032483.exe (or something)

- A program called browser+ was in my All Programs which it let me uninstall.

- If i go to a different user there's desktop icons and i can use my browser (still limited All Programs though) but if i click on a link it sends me to different web pages like canadasasquach.com or matalan.com (lol?) it's really messed :/)

Stuff is attached I appreciate your help <3

I'm running Windows 7 and a few months back had to remove Snap.do and some other unwanted programs.  I managed to get them off, I beleive.  I'm not sure, but I beleive I had to delete some folders to get them off fully. Subsequent Superantispyware runs did not report any unwanted programs.
This morning Avast alerted me Snap.do was back.  I opened a browser and confirmed the home page was hijacked.  Avast said it could remove it for me and when I looked, the home page was back and Snap.do wasn't on my list of programs in control panel>prorams and features.
I ran malware bytes and nothing too bad was found.  I ran Superantispyware and it reported regcleaner pro, Advanced Sysrem Protector and AppsHat Mobile Apps were installed.  I let the Super antispyware try to remove them and also cleaned out some tracking cookies.  I cehcked programs and the 3 weren't there.  Re-running Super antispyware however keeps reporting they're in my system.
Any ideas?  Was my original removal not successful?  Can these apps hide?

I just rebuilt this computer and it working basically ok now. heres the issue im having, when I go to add remove programs it only shows the stuff ive installed since the reload, not all the programs that were installed on the system previously. I think the registry is not right, is there any way the restore it or have windows rebuild it? or will all the programs need to be reinstalled, most of them still work, but some do not.

A:rebuilt system from backup, but programs dont show in add/remove programs

I dont know what sort of backup you did. When you reinstall the o/s
its like starting over. Your right about registry issues. Thing is, is that
when you install a program it inserts a special registry entry. When you
reinstall windows, it has no clue as to how to deal with that particular
entry, thus you need to reinstall. For games and other programs, if
you have saved folders, they might be salvaged. Smarter minds may
differ, maybe they will chime in....

I don't really know what happened or how to fix things, so I would really appreciate your help!

I downloaded a .exe file that I 75% trust with uTorrent while I was away from the computer. Upon returning, I saw a message that Panda antivirus security had blocked some form of traffic, but I can't recall the exact message.

When I tried to open the finished .exe torrent, the computer slowed down and uTorrent wasn't responding so I pressed ctrl+alt+delete to open the menu for the task manager.

When the blue task manager screen did not come up, I can't remember if I tried to open the .exe file again or if I opened Firefox via the quicklaunch shortcut on the bottom left taskbar.

At this point, I believe Mozilla firefox would not open, and an error messege came up saying "firefox is an invalid torrent file." All three program icons in the quicklaunch section had the uTorrent icon. I tried one of them, Yahoo IM, and received the same error.

Since I thought yahoo and firefox were trying to open via uTorrent, I changed firefox's opener program back to firefox by right clicking and selecting "open with."

After this, firefox would open properly, but now every program that had uTorrent's icon then had firefox's icon. Clicking yahoo IM's quicklaunch button caused yahoo IM to try to use firefox as the opener.

I have NO IDEA what is going on and this has never happened before. I have uninstalled the IM and tried to reinstall, but the .exe file provided... Read more

I've been trying to fix my brother's computer for a while, but every Spy-bot and Ad-aware continuously find 60+ bad items and something has recently caused most programs to stop working completely that can be solved with a restart and crossed fingers. Recently a restart brought up a very colorful rendition of the screen that wasn't a good sign as I try to fix the computer. So I turn here. I'm pretty sure I got rid of the 'win antispyware 2005' malware he had running for the longest time. I had ZoneAlarm (deactivates the Windows default firewall) for a long time then had to uninstall it for Medal of Honor:Airbourne which required the windows firewall to be running (to add itself to the allow list). Then I got Jetico Personal Firewall and I've had Avast! On-Access scanner for the entire ordeal. I think that's about everything. Extra.txt is attached.

Edit: I tried the panda activescan. I downloaded the plug-in, but after 1.5 hours of running the scan it remained at 0%. If it's neccessary, I could run it overnight.

A family member was tricked in to downloading and installing some stuff from the Internet on to a laptop that has Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit with Media Center. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff that was installed or if these problems existed earlier.
In Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, not all installed programs are listed. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letters Mi.. or Mo.. Only 14 programs are listed. In Start menu, All Programs, I think some programs are missing. The list seems unusually short. The laptop has a Win 7 style Start menu because IObit's Start Menu 8 program is installed. In Control Panel, System and Security, Administrative Tools, there were no shortcuts to the tools. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.
I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date but that didn't bring back the missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues.
I guess the missing programs could be the result of malware. I don't remember exactly what I removed. I only used the free version of MBAM to clean up. I tried restoring everything MBAM quarantined but that didn't help. I requarantined the stuff. It was mostly, if not all, PUPs.
Any ideas for bringing back the programs that should be in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu?

A:Missing some Programs in Programs and Features (Uninstall a Program) Menu

I gave up. I restored the operating system and reinstalled everything. No problems now so I guess the problems of missing programs and BitDefender not working was caused by the malware/PUPs- a buggy installer.

I have an old PC and it runs very slow (Due to how much crap it has on it, programs, files, music, etc) And I want to remove EVERYTHING on it, back to the factory programs that came with it, so it removes all added programs by the user.

Because theres so much stuff on it, like un wanted files, videos, music etc, and also has very little important things, I don't want to remove every program one at a time, because i'll be doing that for months!

Can someone tell me how to get all the programs I've added in the past, files, videos, removed, without having to do it manually, back to factory programs that came with the PC?
Then I want to upgrade to windows 7 (I have a disk with windows 7 ultimate on it)

And can someone tell me how to upgrade from windows Vista, to windows 7 through my disk??

So its basically like new again, with updated windows.

Thanks :)

I don't know what has happened. After installing Daemon Tools, I restart my computer and none of my startup programs run. I try 3 system restore points where this wasn't occuring and it still happens. When I click any desktop icons other than things like My Computer, Control Panel, etc. they are not opening. What has happened and what can I do? The only programs I've installed recently are TeamViewer 4, a game called Archlord, SWiSH Max 2, and that Daemon Tools. What can I do?

A:Help! Vista Premium x64 suddenly not loading programs on startup and no programs run!

I would try un-installing the programs one by one. If un-installing them does not work....go into safe mode and try removing them. If that does not work, I would use system restore to go back to when your computer was working. Good luck.

I'm trying to find a way to keep specific programs from being added to my Recent Programs list on my start menu. (In my case, it's to keep programs in my Games folder from showing up since they are already easily found right off of the start menu.)

Reading around I keep seeing the same registry solution ("Add the title as a value to this specific key") but that particular example, as others later say, seems to only work on Vista.

Does anyone know of a method for Windows 7 that has been tested and verified will do the same thing?

A:Hide specific programs from being added to Recent Programs? (Windows 7)

It just occurred to me that I have a program installed (Revo Uninstaller Pro) that is actually doing what I am asking for here. It is a Start Menu shortcut like any other with no additional parameters.

Speaking theoretically, of course, would it be more likely something within the program itself (such as running the program and at the moment of running it deletes the shortcut) or possibly the solution to my problem found maybe in the registry?

I'm just throwing ideas at the wall here.

I do not want to see any of the programs at the top of the list of All Programs (especially Internet Explorer). I have Windows 7 Prof x64.

My question is, when displaing all software installed and choosing more columns of information to display, they don't stay. For example, choosing Location column. Getting out of the installed programs list and then returning to it, the Location column is gone.

Is there some what to get the columns to be persistent?

Thanks in advance.

A:Question about Windows 7 Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

The Programs and Features listing is shown to you by the Explorer app. Each time that you open/close the Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a folder (or a special view/list like the Programs and Features listing), Explorer tries to write info to the registry about how Explorer was showing you that folder. Windows (file) Explorer tries to write this "how to display a folder" info at other times besides just closing an Explorer window, but I'll not go into all of that.

Microsoft has not solved the problem that happens when these places in the registry get too big. When this happens, you may see the problem that you are experiencing - that of no longer being able to store the layout/view/column width/column selection/... info in the registry.

Below is video that I made showing registry keys being made. (I'm not suggesting that you mess with the registry.) Notice that new keys are made when visiting the folder named Temp. Deleting this Temp folder does not remove those registry keys. If you close Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a compressed folder (a ZIP file), the Explorer app tries to make keys so that it can remember how it last showed you that folder. If you delete or move that ZIP folder to another location, the original registry keys remain. So you can see how this area of the registry can fill up.

edit: I had to make this video again. I hope that I covered all of the original points.

One solution is to remove all of the entries/keys in the areas of ... Read more

I recently opened up my uninstall list and a lot of my programs are missing i tried restoring my computer to before i downloaded quick time (which i think is what the issue was) but the restore came up with an error 0xc0000022 saying it failed to restore, i tried an sfc scan and it came up with something being corrupt that would be fixed on restart, i restarted and tried to restore again but it still did not work.

I have uninstalled quick-time already but the problem is still there, also my antivirus picked up root-kit in hamachi so i uninstalled that and did a full system scan from boot with avast, i haven't tried restoring again in case i lose any progress or the virus is restored.

So basically i have two problems: Programs missing from my programs and features list, and System restore not working 0xc0000022

I know i should do something with the CBS log to check but ill leave that for you guys to decide, thanks for the help.

A:programs missing from programs and features, recovery failed 0xc000002

Download and run Revo Uninstaller for the missing programs.

As far as your rootkit, simply removing the program doesn't remove the malware. Run a scan with Malwarebytes anti-Rootkit, then run Malwarebytes standard and then run Eusing to clean up the entry points of your virus.

Also, go into your AppData directory and clean out all the Temp files in there. Delete them for all user accounts on the machine:

C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Local\Temp for example.

Please read every bit of this, as I try to be as detailed as possible. This started about three days ago.First, the fake programs:Windows Antivirus ProAdvanced Virus RemoverSome red X in the system tray that displays "Your computer is infected! Windows has detected spyware infection! It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you." (Don't know if this is part of one of the above fake anti-spyware programs or its own).I've had one or two of them before. (Gotta love the obvious misspellings and grammatical errors).Secondly, the Task Manager is disabled. So I go ahead and try some virus programs. None of them can get a few seconds into the scan without terminating such as MBAM and SpyNoMore (from what SpyNoMore showed while scanning, I saw the file that disabled the task manager and "Advanced Virus Remover", so if I could somehow get that to do a complete scan, I'm pretty sure it could work.)I came across a program that did, however, do a complete scan. It was called A-Squared. When I began to quarantine the files, though, the window where it says there has been a fatal error and Windows must terminate with the countdown from 1:00 occurs. After that, If I boot up my computer again, explorer.exe is gone AND the task manager is disabled. So I had to boot it up in Safe Mode with Command Prompt. I then took Browse function in the "Select program to op... Read more

Thank you,

A:installed programs not shown in control panel/programs

Do you have other users who are set to admin the system? Did you perform a system restore lately? Do all your drives show in "Computer"?

What you are speaking of seems like someone else is making changes you are not aware of. User created desktop icons would not be removed if a program was uninstalled or removed by a system restore. They would not link up to their .exe files though. Same if the drive is not listed.

Right click any icon in question and select properties. It will tell you the path that the icon is leading you too. Then, check that path. Make sure that the file it is supposed to execute is actually there.

If it is, you ran into a bug I have not sene since the early days of XP. Google '.ico not working' for a reg fix.

So yesterday I noticed that programs are missing from my control panels program list. Right now there is only 19 items and I use to have probably over 60. Notable missing are all my AVS4You and Topaz Labs software. Also anything with the name Windows is not listed. I can't think of anything I installed to cause this. All I saw was some Windows updates. I've searched other threads and ran some of recommended programs. I then downloaded and ran Malwarebytes software and it found 55 problems, deleted those but my problem still exists. I also did a system restore back to 3/21. I'm at a loss now. Any ideas? Also I'm using MS Security Essentials for protection.

Is there any way to bring back programs that have disappeared from the programs list in the control panel?

One day I realized most of my programs had disappeared from the list (roughly 10 or so remaining from the usual 50-60). This occurred after I had downloaded something. I ran Norton, Advanced System Care, Malwarebytes & CCleaner. As I recall one of them mentioned a virus in the registry. After checking google I looked under the following registry entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall, and true enough the same programs that had disappeared did not appear here.

When it happened (a few months ago) I tried system restores as far back as possible to no avail. I've now realized its a hassle trying to uninstall programs not on the list (programs don't appear on Revo uninstaller or such programs either), so is there a way I can fix this (without any reinstalling of windows)

Im not 100% sure the virus caused this, but im guessing this is what happened. Any help would be appreciated! Also Im not so computer-savvy and first post on these (or any) forums

A:Programs Missing From Control Panel Programs List

Welcome to the Seven Forums, shak.

You mean that the installed programs are not appearing in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. Try to reinstall one of the missing programs without uninstalling it and tell us if it reappears in the Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features list.

I strongly recommend that you also run sfc in the elevated mode. Read at SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker.
