Can't stream videos on my Microsoft Windows Media Player anymore.

Q: Can't stream videos on my Microsoft Windows Media Player anymore.

Windows Vista
Gateway computer

I like to download videos/trailers on the internet.

My default player is Microsoft Windows Media Player.

I would go to websites to watch videos. When I would click a link for the video (usually a WMV file), my Microsoft Windows Media Player would open up, then a few seconds after buffering, the video would start to play. While the video was playing, I could click to go forward, the video would pause (buffering), then play again. Basically, the video was streaming off of the internet.

I found a AVI file, but when I would play it, there was audio, but no video. So I downloaded an AVI player (GOM Media Player, http://download.cnet.com/GOM-Media-P...html?tag=mncol). I installed this new player to watch AVI videos. After I intalled the program, all of my WMV videos on my computer were using the new player. I clicked on a WMV file (from my computer) and made my Microsoft Windows Media Player be the default video player for WMV files and the GOM Media Player for my AVI files.

Then the problem started........

Now when I go to websites with links for streaming WMV files, the entire file downloads, then the media player opens up to play the video. I can't stream videos anymore.

Here is the website that I would go to to play/stream wmv files....... http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_movies.htm

I tried the help that came with the Microsoft Windows Media Player, but I couldn't figure it out. I wanted to uninstall the player (but couldn't find the uninstall file), So I went to download the latest Microsoft Windows Media Player, but when I tried to install it, the computer stated that the one already installed on my computer is the latest one, so I can't install the one I just downloaded.

Hope this all makes sense and that someone can help out.

Preferred Solution: Can't stream videos on my Microsoft Windows Media Player anymore.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Core 2 Quad Q9650 processor running at stock 3.0 GHZ, 4GB RAM, a GTX295 and Vista Home Premium SP1, all drivers updated and my problem is that when I try to play ANY video in Windows Media Center (even the ones that Vista ships with), I get a black screen, but can hear the audio.

All other video players (Windows Media player, Real player, itunes etc.) on my PC play videos without a problem, so I doubt it is a general codec issue.

I remember being able to watch the introductory video (the one with the family in front of a tv where things like contrast and brightness are explained) about half a month ago when I first configured Windows Media Center.

Can you please help?

Hi i just bought a new computer with Vista. However when i try to preview .MP3 files from emusic they don't stream in windows media player like they did on my old computer. Instead it gives me the option to save them (which is really annoying) and then open them and subsequently delete them before i purchase music. I've also noticed this with video files as well. I was wondering if there is a way to make it so they would just open in media player and stream so i don't have to deal with saving them then going and deleting them. Thanks in advance.

I have always watched NASA TV on WMP, and it has always had a long delay (30-45 seconds). I played the exact same stream in VideoLAN and noticed that WMP is around 30 seconds behind WMP. Does WMP player cache the stream for this long? Is there any way to stop it, so that it plays the stream without the delay?

A:Windows Media Player Stream

Here's a better understanding of delays of broadcasting although its centered across Media Center: Broadcasting Delay

Go to the Reducing the Player Buffer section, try it and see if that helps.

Yes, there's a delay thats preset.

I'm following the steps from here:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...sharemedia.aspxBut when I get to the part, "Choose Which Devices to Share Your Media With", nothing shows up in the list of devices. Not sure what's up. I had to put my PS3 into a DMZ on my network (anything else kept resulting in dropped connections), but my laptop isn't. I can check the Netgear router (Netgear WPNT834 RangeMax 240 Wireless Router), and see that both my laptop (Windows XP SP2 with all latest patches, Windows Media Player 11, Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security) and the PS3 are connected to the network, but I can't get the laptop to see the PS3. Is it something with a the router settings? I don't think it's Trend Micro because I even tried turning it off and that didn't help. Is it a Windows XP setting? Thanks in advance!!!

A:Problems Using Windows Media Player To Stream To Ps3

OK. I'm making some headway with this. I think I needed to turn on UPnP on both the router and the PS3. So the router sees UPnP working fine on the PS3, but it's not picking it up on my laptop. I installed the component and turned on UPnP on my laptop, but then the laptop only sees the router, and the router only sees the PS3. But I still can't get the laptop to see the PS3. Is it because the PS3 is in a DMZ? What services need to be on for me to properly setup my laptop as a media server to stream content to my PS3?

The pop-up window will appear, everything will load, but Windows Media Player will do nothing but be paused. I've updated my video card drivers, I have the latest WMP with updated codecs, but still...

Any suggestions? Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

A:Windows Media Player Does Not Stream Video

Do the following:

How to troubleshoot playback of network or Internet media
Streaming media over the Internet is subject to all standard network connectivity troubleshooting. Server-side issues cause the most commonly-experienced issues. • Make sure that the Internet Wizard or Network Connection Wizard has been run on the system. If it has not been, run either wizard:1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Communications.
2. Click New Connection Wizard.
3. Follow the instructions and complete the wizard.

• Try connecting to the stream with Mplayer2:1. Click Start, click Run, and then type mplayer2.
2. Click OK.
3. On the File menu, click Open, and then type the URL for the media.

• Verify that the system is not behind a firewall or proxy and verify the Windows Media Player specific network settings:1. Open Windows Media Player, and then on the Tools menu, click Options.
2. On the Network tab, make sure that all of the protocol boxes are selected, and then verify that the proxy settings are correct.

• Try disabling Internet Connection Sharing or any firewall software if it is enabled.
• For more information on setting your firewall configuration for Windows Media, please see the following Microsoft Web site:

I have found a great video that I would like to download, but it is streaming. It is a Windows Media Player file, and I was wondering if you could recommend a program or something that would record it onto my computer so that I would not have to be online to watch it.

A:Record a Stream in Windows Media Player

I believe that HyperCam can do what you're asking. It'll record the streaming video as an .AVI file that you should be able to play on Media Player. If you need any help with that program after installing it then look here.

I can barely move the mouse and ctrl + alt + del doesn't work because WMP takes up so many resources. Most of the time I have to resort to resetting my computer. usually when cd players stop reading disc's its usually because the players are dirty or sometimes it could be something a little bit more and the connection side, start with running a cd cleaner on it and see if that helps, how long have you had the machine and when did you notice this happening.

A:0xc0000005 error - can't stream video or audio using Windows Media Player

any ideas on this?

Read other 1 answers

Hi all...

I'm running Win7 Home Premium (64-bit) with i7 processor.

'WMPCDText' is a plug-in that allows Windows Media Player 12 to show Track/Artist info at top left of the player's screen.

I've used it for ages without problem but now all it shows is 'Track 01 etc /Unknown Artist'.

I uninstalled Version 1.4 and re-installed it. Doesn't seem to be any newer version.
However, same result...Already searched web for solution but no luck.

I also use Media Monkey and all tracks/artist info show there as normal

I've not added any new software, nor uninstalled any, other than WMPCDText.
So no chance of potential conflict causing this snag.

Any ideas what could be going wrong with WMP? Some tweak needed somewhere??

Many thanks

A:Windows Media Player 12 - 'WMPCDText' not working anymore

I've just found the answer, folks...All on my own too!!

Open Windows Media Player in Library View

At top left:
Organize > Options > Plugins > Background > ensure WMPCDText is ticked in box on the right

All Track info will now show!!
Hope that helps someone else!!

I'm a newbie here, and wasn't able to find the answer to my question in previous threads...so, please take it easy on me if it's a problem that's already been covered.

I have a Dell laptop with a DVD drive. I've been able to watch movies for months with no problems, all of a sudden yesterday I put in a legit movie that I purchased, and WMP 10 gives me an error message that it can't play the DVD because of digital copy protection. I tried other movies, and tried playing the movies in Media Center and got the same message, so I installed WMP 11 thinking it would help.

Needless to say, it hasn't, and I can't watch movies now. I've gone through all the Troubleshooting on Microsoft.com, which basically entailed restarting the media player, and the computer itself - to no avail.

I'm in the process of downloading another media player that some people on this site have recommended (VLC), so I'm hoping that will be a temporary fix...but I'd really like to get WMP back up and running.

Please help.

I d/l some songs that were playing just fine on WMP for a while until I tried to install Yahoo Music Engine. YME didn't completely install because it encountered some sort of problem. Now when I try to play them on WMP, it says it needs a security update, but then encounters error code 800C2F78. The Microsoft Web site only says it's investigating the problem, it's not on it's list of common error codes. We're talking about a lot of songs that I paid a buck apiece for. The songs that I ripped from CDs play just fine, it's only the ones I d/l.

I am running Vista and recently my WMP 11 quit working with any videos, even ones it used to play before. It's been a whlie since I tried to watch videos so I don't know the moment it happened.

I have tried to install and uninstall many codec packs (K-lite, divx, xvid, ace, etc). The videos play fine in the Divx player, but when they play in WMP11 I get only audio, no video.

I have even tried to play older videos that I know worked previously with WMP 11. These videos also play OK on my desktop running Vista.

Thanks in advance...

It used to play DVDs until I uninstalled InterVideo WinDVD. Dumb move. I guess WMP was using InterVidoeo's codec. I reinstalled the program, thinking that would fix the problem, but it didn't. I have a Windows 7 system that is running all Windows Updates available as on today. I assume it is running the latest edition of WMP; but, I can see no way of determining the version. It plays MTS (movies made on a Panasonic Camcorder) files just fine.

Now the problem:

I have another system here running WinXP with all updates available for it as of today. Again, I cannot determine which version of WMP. It will not play MTS files. It is running a Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 $ 1.86 GHz and 2 Gigs of RAM. It stops at a screen that says it is loading but remains black indefinitely with no progress indicator.

Any advice?

Am I just going to have to go to Win7? I know there are other programs that probably will play MTS; but, it would be nice if I could get WMP to do it without having to go to Win7.

Whenever i watch a video that was recorded with fraps then rendered with vegas, after a minute or two, the screen will just go black and there will be a buzzing noise and I have to restart.

It's really hard to be able to watch a video and make sure it's perfect before uploading to youtube with this problem persisting. Usually it takes about 1-2 minutes before it crashes.

I thought the issue may have been that my external drive that it is on was being too slow and causing a crash, so I copied a file to my main HDD and it still didn't run properly. though it did last slightly longer, however, that may have been coincidence.

Anyways, This is on a fresh install of windows, about a weeks old and made to try and stop thesse issues, and all drivers are up to date. This issue happened with COD4 online too but after reading some stuff, if you have a monitor plugged in that is not in use, removing it will fix issues, and it did.

My specs are: (for now all has been defaulted as I though it may have been OC that caused issues.)
i7 950 @ 3.07GHz
12GB Corsair XMS3 1600MHz
Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 2GB
Corsair TX650W

Using 11.5 drivers on AMD.com for 6970 and all drivers for the board are installed off of the asus website.

Please help with these issues, as once this is done, my computer may be perfect for me.

PS. This never used to happen with my 5830 (I don't think) and I only got my 6970 a few weeks ago. This will most likely be the main cause of it.

Sounds like you need a codec for the video file to play.

Download a codec package or the individual codec needed to play the video.

I have windows vista, since the begining I was using WMP to view videos I recorded with my digital camera. All was well and good until my friend gave me a couple vid clips from his digital camera in .mov format. WMP would not recognize the vids, so I downloaded Quicktime in order to view them. Well, I like WMP a lot better then quicktime, but now for some reason I can only watch my vids in QT, if I open them in WMP they will play the Audio, but it no longer displays the video. WMP SHOULD still be the default video player as I did not tell QT to make them defaults when I downloaded it.

I'm sure the solution is a simple one, but I'm stumped....

A:Windows Media Player Not Showing Videos

It might have happened by accident. Quicktime can be very sneaky. All of these apps have Options tabs so you have to go into WMP or Quicktime and enable or disable default depending on what you find.

Windows Media Player is not built to play .rars and .img, those are not audio or video files. Use 7-zp or Winrar to open the .rars. Use poweriso or daemon tool lite to open the .img. A good media player to use would be VLC media player.

I've just installed Windows Media Player 9 on my XP Pro/SP1 machine.

Now what is happening is that all my video files, (wmv, avis, mpegs) although seem to be running fine, but the video shows for only a second and then the display goes blank. Only sound can be heard from them. It used to be fine with the older media player which was shipped with the OS.

Can anybody please help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Im at a loss at the moment. I cannot figure out why my wmp will not play streaming videos online. I've updated to wmp 11 and still nothing. Before I updated it kept wanting to install a plugin called Windows Media Player 11 but would never go through with the plugin install. I then just went and downloaded WMP 11 and updates which removed the prompt to install WMP 11 as a plugin. However now any time I go to any site with streaming video or music it says "connecting to media" then the status reads "ready". It will try to connect to media then say "ready" every time I click play. Anyone have any idea how to fix this or why its happening?

you possibly need a codec, the link below is for codecs for XP, it contains all the codecs that will play most if not all video and music file types - install this and while installing, just install with all recommended options
