ThinkCentre m910q No Splash Screen when using dual monitors

Q: ThinkCentre m910q No Splash Screen when using dual monitors

I have a ThinkCentre M910q with dual Lenovo Think Vision Monitors. When both monitors are connected the computer bypasses the splash screen eliminating the optin to select boot options or enter the bios. The system boots directly into Windows. Before the windows startup screens appear the monitor remains black. I work as a tech at a large hospital and this is the default setup throughout our facility. It is extremely inconvenient to have to unplug one fo the monitors to get to the boot options. Additionaly simply pressing F1 or F12 before the computer enters the windows startup screen just hangs the device. Is there a way to get the Splash screen to display when using ural monitors? I've already updated the Bios and graphics drivers and looked in the bios for a fix but haven' been able to resolve the issue. Thanks in advance for your help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

We just setup 6 M910q's at a client's site, and we're having so many problems getting anything on the monitors. They are older Samsung monitors, but not all the same. We've also tried a Dell and an Acer monitor. All the monitors have DV-I and VGA inputs, no DP or HDMI. We've tried different DP to VGA and DP to DV-I adapters, and all with the same result. 3 of the 6 machines were working with the DP to VGA adapters connected to the DP port closest to the power connector. When we tried to conenct a second DP to DV-I or even DP to VGA adapter to the next DP port, we either got no signal at the monitor, or the monitor would come on, flash lines of black, then lose the signal. It just cycled through that sequence. When we tried the third DP port, no signal at all on the monitors. Like I said, this was happening on 6 different M910q's, about 10 different adapters (different brands, active and passive), and 5 different monitors. We then plugged the non-working setup from the second DP to the first DP, the monitor came on with a signal. At my desk when I setup the computers, I have an older Dell monitor with only VGA and DV-I, and I had no problems with a signal. My monitor never lost the signal. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, is there any working fix short of telling the client they need to purchase new monitors? We have USB to VGA adapters on them at the moment, which work fine, but that is by no means a fix. Just a temporary band-aid. Any suggestions would ... Read more

Hi, I just bought the M910X tiny desktop and 2 identical Lenovo ThinkCentre monitors. I installed the desktop into one of the monitors, which works fine. How do I connect the second monitor to the PC? It seems like the DisplayPort showing on the back of the monitor is only for plugging a separate device into the screen, not video out to a second monitor from the PC. Is that right? Sorry if this is a stupid question! Thank you

The signal was very strong, which is excellent. however, I have noticed a slower speed than usual. Prior this card I was using my spare mobile phone USB tethering, plugged in to the PC. The speed of the phone was roughly 25Mbps (speedtest)The wifi cards speed was 2Mbps Any clues why it is like that?

Yesterday I did a routine restart and when rebooting my E32 SFF it got hung up on the Lenovo Logo splash display and didn't load windows. The operatiing system is Windows 10 64 bit. Thinking it might be a hard drive problem, I had at the time a 500GB SSD installed which had been cloned from the original 180GB SSD that came with the computer. I swapped the 500GB drive with the original 180GB drive but the problem still persists which leads me to believe it's not a hard drive or Windows issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The fans power up and the led indicators as well as the USB ports, so I'm doubting a power supply problem. I have a Windows 10 repair disc but it won't boot on the disc as I believe the bios is set up to boot on the hard drive only. Is this a motherboard problem?

I have an M910q that I've setup in a TIO 24' 3rd gen for a user and it works great except for the fact that I can't get a second monitor to display with it. I have tried to run both a DVI->DisplayPort adapter and normal DisplayPort cable to both the back of the M910q and the bottom of the TIO with no success. I've gone through every monitor option on both the TIO and the second monitor. I tried updating to the latest graphics drivers, running all Thinkcentre updates and windows updates. I tried installing the TIO driver (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/hr/en/products/DESKTOPS-AND-ALL-IN-ONES/THINKCENTRE-TINY-IN-ONE-SERIES/...) and that didn't help. I went into BIOS and enabled Multi-monitor support with no luck. I tried to use both win+p and going to the "display" menu and clicking detect but it sees nothing there. The second monitor has been confirmed to work on any other machine. Anyone else experienced this issue? I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.

Hi Lenovo Community, a have an M910q 10MV0012US Tiny. I'm trying to clone an existing OS on an NVMe M.2 SSD to an M.2 SATA SSD (Lenovo PN 00JT082), it appears to reimage successfully to the drive which is showing in the software. However, the drive isn't showing up as a boot option in the BIOS and I can't boot from the SSD. So then I tried reinstalling Windows 10 fresh on it, and it looks like it installed ok and does appear in Windows installation media, but again, can't boot from it. Now, I did read on a forum topic for (I think) a M710, that it only supports NVMe drives and not M.2 SATA. Wondering if it is the same with the M910 desktop. Am I correct in this case, does it not support bootable M.2 SATA drives? If so, let me know. Thanks!

When you say "installed into a monitor", it's a Tiny-in-One monitor?  It would help to know which model.  Pretty sure you would need to connect the 2nd monitor direct to the Tiny itself, is there a way to do that with it installed in the monitor?

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

A:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

My first issue is that my screen saver doesn't even turn on. I have it set to 20 minutes of inactivity and the screen saver will kick in, then 40 minutes later its suppose to shut the monitor off. I've left the room with the monitors on and upwards of an hour and all the computer has done was went to sleep.

I do, however, have my slide show changing every 3 minutes. I don't think this would effect the screen saver but I figured I would throw it out there.

Any ideas on why the screen saver isn't turning on and my monitors won't turn off (I notice this issue on my laptop too occasionally by the way.)? I'm on and off my desktop a lot, and I would hate for something to happen to them (Since I dropped a pretty penny on them) because windows wasn't doing what its suppose to do or I turned on/off the wrong thing.

And another side question, does anyone have any issues with the clock changing time? Both my computers randomly change times on me, and its getting frustrating.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi all,

Looking for some help I've got quite confused over trying to get dual monitors set up and how to do this...

I already have 2 dell monitors vga connection. I have not yet brought the pc desktop. I want to have both monitors connected at the same time but I want to view different things on each monitor, (i.e. not a duplication), so for example a pdf document to read on one (instead of printing) and working/ writing a word document on the other. I believe the term for this is extended dual screen but I'm not 100% sure. I don't want to see the same thing on both screens.

I am looking to buy a cheap secondary pc to use in home office and act as a mini server, I use a mac as a freelancer when out and about and at home sometimes connect this to a monitor also. I'll be linking to/ using synology NAS as main and back up hard drive for this and my mac.

The pc I'm currently looking at is https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01H5OFUIK/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
I'll be mainly using a browser, office (word/ excel etc) and maybe diy photo editing and approving design work but not making or editing it.

Would this desktop work to do this with my existing monitors and what cables/ spitters would I need. I have read about the possible need for graphics/ video connection and I have got a bit lost in it all. I used to work in an office where a 'y' type cable was used to have dual monitors and then you just dragged the window you wanted on the se... Read more

Morning, Trying to figure out something here, this is, for all intents and purposes, something new for me, as I've been mostly a "Mom n Pop" Tech vs "Business Tech" so, anyway. I'm working with M900, and M910Q with Intel 530 Integrated for video. I'm trying to trouble the following issues to verify if I missed anything, before punting said minipcs to Lenovo for RMA. Anywho, issues: 1. A M910Q, only the DP port with the metal bracket will work. When the Primary is plugged in, any secondary plugged into the other ports will show up under that port when looking at it in the Intel GFX Display view. I figured this out when I changed the resolution on the 2nd monitor, primary changes. Primary is the live monitor. 2. We have a number of M910s and M900's where when trying to use dual monitors, thru DP -> VGA or DP -> DVI. Monitors would flicker like strobe lights. This can sometimes be bandaided by swapping cables and adapters, but not completely remove the issue. I will point out that we do not have any actual DP Capable monitors on site. Not yet anyway, and those that will be, are going to ThinkCentres with Discrete Cards in them... Ideas? Am I miss anything? I don't see anything in the BIOS to help me, and updating the drivers doesn't seem to provide resolution either. Most are running old drivers, but a few are running the latest for the machine.

I've combed through Google search results for an answer but haven't found anything that helps. I'm currently running two screens on an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT and have a few full screen games. Warhammer Dawn of War Dark Crusade works fine, a barrier appears most of the time that prevents the cursor moving to the second screen, so I can hit that one pixel column that activates the scroll over the map.

Half Life 2 also works okay, because the cursor is always centred and moving the mouse moves the screen instead.

However, I pulled out Rise of Nations not too long ago, no barrier. The only way to fix it is to disable the second monitor. Which is a hassle, it's set up with a heap of icons and a few widgets that need moving over first, then moving back when I reenable it.

Oh well, I don't play that game that often. Though we recently got Spore, which has a similar problem. I'm not worried that it can flick over to the other screen, the problem is it won't move back. Which means a minimise of the game then a restore. Or I could go through and disable the second monitor. Blegh.

Is there some sort of program that will force the barrier every time I run a full screen app, or something I can set up that the mouse won't cross?

A:Running dual monitors question about laptop screen

You should be able to set your power settings so that only the monitor on your laptop turns off when you close the screen. Just make sure that your hard drives are set to keep spinning and that it doesn't go into sleep mode.

You could set these to be the settings when you are plugged into AC power.

"Power Options" are available under the control panel. You can change your monitor behaviors on the left side.

Hi!

I just got another one of LG's 19" LCD monitors and made myself a dual screen. All working nice and good and I'm loving the horizontal span, except for one tiny problem: single-screen games. When launching a game, I would want for the 2nd monitor to stay on desktop and not get "included" in the game. Included as in going into standby / power saving mode. Can this be bypassed? I understand it must be quite impossible to use the mouse on the 2nd monitor while in-game on the 1st monitor, but I would at least want to see the desktop and the real-time programs that are running there (virus scanners, time, IRC etc.).

When I exit the game, or alt-tab, the 2nd monitor automatically returns from power save and all is normal.

Some specs if needed:

GF 8800GT 512
Core2Duo E6600
LG Flatron L1953TR as 1st monitor
LG Flatron L1952TQ as 2nd
WIN XP Pro SP3

Hi there, I'm having trouble with my W500. I have connected a display port cable to my monitor and laptop, but it's displaying one screen on both of them. I want to be able to actually have two screens to work with, how can I accomplish this? I try and go into display settings and click detect, but it simply says "Didn't detect another display", which is weird because I have my second display projecting whatever is on my laptop screen.  I have Windows 8.1. Thank you.

Hi, New EliteBook 840 G3 with discrete graphics and 2013 UltraSlim Dock using windows 10. I am using 2 HP Z23n screen, there are connected with 2 DisplayPort on 2013 UltraSlim Dock. I have 1 issues with this 1) My 2 external screens, connected to the 2 DisplayPort, started flickering then going blank and came back again without any flickering. Extremely annoying. Seems that the graphic card somewhat resets on screen or the other from time to time. Been trying to look at logs without any luck. Any ideas?

Sorry, I can't help fix your issue, but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone!  We have 7 Elitebook 840 G3's wth Windows 10 on the 2013 UltraSlim Dock as well, and they are all doing the same thing.  Both external displays will go black for a few seconds periodically throughout the day.   We are using HP EliteDisplay E242 displays for all except one user, who has ASUS displays, and they all have the same issue, so the display itself does not appear to be the issue. The VGA port seems to work fine, so this points to the Display Ports/driver being the issue.  I have tried all available driver updates, but nothing has resolved the issue. We are looking for a solution to this issue as well.

The screen flickers for 10-30 sec to 5-10 mins. I saw a post which is the same issue for the 840 G3 laptops that was marked fixed by HP while it is clearly still a huge problem. Please fix this issue since we bought a huge number of these laptops and we are ready to return them if this issue is not fixed.

Hi Forum,

Had my Samsung S22B300H 21.5IN screens (2) working fine yesterday. Woke up this morning and the screens were mirrored (or at least not extended) and the resolution was turned down and both screens appeared zoomed.

I have an Acer Aspire M5811 with an intel graphics card that supported the dual monitors just fine up until today. I have one montior connected to my pc via VGA which is recognized by default as screen #1. The second I have connected via the HDMI outport. Both screens have a direct output from my pc. They are now operating as independent monitors and my system will not even recognize when I unplug and plug back in either of them.

Start > Control Panel > Appearance > Display > Resolution > the only two drop down options are: Display (1. default monitor ON) and Resolution (now set to highest). The "Detect" and "Identify" buttons result in nothing.

Please help!

thanks in advance.

Running Win10 AU x64 with dual monitors connected to an nVidia Quadro K2200 video card running the latest 369.09 nVidia driver. My desktop extends across the two monitors and I'm using the standard Windows 10 blank screen save after 10 minutes of inactivity. Both monitors blank ok - the problem is that when I use the mouse or keyboard to bring the monitors out of screen save, all the applications that had their windows open on the RH monitor when screen save activated have been moved to the LH (primary) monitor, and I have to shift them back to the RH monitor.

This doesn't happen every single time, but it happens about two thirds of the time. Any suggestions on what to look for or how to remedy the problem?

The LH monitor is an Eizo EV3237 connected via displayport and the RH monitor a Dell U3011 connected via DVI.

Nick, this has been a topic of discussion on several threads here. What seems to work for some people does not work for others. I run 3 monitors and really do not have a problem with them moving. What I do is right click the desktop and select view, then uncheck 'Align Icons to Grid'. I then arrange the icons where I want them. Then I go back and check the 'Align icons to grid'. that works well for me, but not for others. It will change like yours occasionally, but that is always when I have a program lock up or have to do a hard shutdown, which is very rare for me.

I know I have see third party software mentioned to resolve this problem. I have never used third party software for that, so can't tell you anything about them.

Here are a couple of the other threads dealing with icon alignent if you would like to try some other options.

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

A:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

A:Dual Monitors - cursor changes monitors vertically instead of horizontally

Display Properties - Settings - Drag the monitors to side-by-side position with the mouse, it thinks they are one obove the other.

I have 4 monitors. I have 3 USB to VGA adaptors. I am only able to get 3 monitors working at a time. All 4 monitors work just not at the same time.

Any suggestions for things I might download or any upgrades I would need would be very helpful.

Thank you.

A:ThinkCentre SFF: Setting up 4 Independent Monitors

I am wondering if this computer is capable of 4 monitors. I don't know much (anything) about the components of computers. This page indicates that the M92 doesn't support a PCI-Express video adapter graphic cards. I am not sure what that means. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht062228

Hi, Does the ThinkCentre M720 Tiny support three independent displays with all digital connections? My research is indicating yes, but I'm not 100% sure. If it does, do I need an additional port, or can it be done with the standard 1xHDMI and 1xDP ports and appropriate adapters/splitters? I currently have 3 BenQ monitors, all same model with HDMI and DVI-D interfaces (no DisplayPort) and 1920x1080 resolution. As a result, I'm guessing I'll need some adapters and possibly the DP to dual DP adapter? The reason behind the question is that I'm currently weighing up whether to go for SFF or Tiny form factor, and support for 3 independent digitial displays is one of my requirements. My current machine is a ThinkCentre tower with a GT730 card, but it would be nice go "go tiny" if I can with the replacement. The model I had in mind is the 10T7004B++, but feel free to recommend a different model if necessary. Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks
