Autorun problems, Installing Games problems.. Losing my mind!

Q: Autorun problems, Installing Games problems.. Losing my mind!

I only have problems with my CD-ROM drive. The DVD-ROM drive works fine. I generally have to stick a paperclip into the small hole under the ROM to pop it open. It's beginning to die. And now it won't read games. It seems to read CDs just fine.
IF I can get autrorun to start (1% of the time), the installation will fail even before it starts or about 3% of the way in because the files can't be copied or the last time, the kernel.exe message popped up. I can't update my drive because there is no update available (which i don't believe), and it's really beginning to tick me off. I just want to play some RCT And CIV3.
Is there any possible way to fix this?

(my computer is quite old, and i'm not getting a new one any time soon)

Preferred Solution: Autorun problems, Installing Games problems.. Losing my mind!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone, let me first say well done on the nice forum and quick replies you guys give to newbies, keep it up.

Ok my problem, a few months ago I tried to install BF2, I put the CD into the CDROM and nothing happened, so I asked a tech-savvy friend of mine, and he said try the DVD thing under it, so I did and it worked.

That was the last game I installed on my PC, now today I've been trying to install The Burning Crusade (Newest WoW expansion), I put the CD into the DVDdrive hoping it would work like BF2, but nothing happened, nothing atall, no errors nothing, I'm guessing its not registering with the PC for some reason (Something is outdated?). I've restarted my PC and updated DirectX to version 9 and updated nVidia GeForce FX Drivers. Is there anything else I could do to stop this problem?

I have a 40gb hard drive but I only had 3gb free after unstalling everything I didn't use. I decided to reformat and reinstall windows (by the way, I use windows XP)
When I went to install Max Payne, which worked before, it gave me a "catostrophic error".
I thought mabey it was my cd rom that was messed up and used another drive. This still didn't work.
I then tried using another computer that had the game on it to make an .iso image of the disc and mount it to a virtual cd drive. Still no luck.
I reformated and reinstalled windows 98 this time. It worked fine but when I performed the upgrade it returned to the previous state.
Please help, I can play the game under windows 98 but I would like to use XP like I could before.

Everytime I go to install any game made by Microsoft whether it's Age of Empires 1 2 or 3, Halo, or any other Microsoft game I get some kind of weird error. Many times (especially older games ie. Age of Empires 1 or 2, Crimson Skies) I get the "Microsoft Games AutoRun/Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close."

When I go to details about the error report they want me to send, I get this

Error signature
AppName: ebu16.exe AppVer: 1.2000.7.1802 ModName: ebu16.exe
ModVer: 1.2000.7.1802 Offset: 00032e68

With my latest failure, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, when I popped in the first disc, a Halo setup screen came up! The one common link I've found in all these errors is that all files causing faults can be found in the c:\windows\Prefetch\ folder when I search my computer (Via start menu). When the Halo setup (supposed to be FS2004 setup) came up in processes it called it EBU12.exe and after searching my computer with start...search the only place it found it was in the prefetch folder. My friend told me to delete all the files in this folder, but that hasn't solved my problem. If anyone has any suggestions, or needs more information about my problem, I would appreciate it.

Oh, and this has been a problem since I bought my computer. Not something new, but I just decided maybe someone here would know.

A:Severe Problems Installing Microsoft Games

Hi blazer003

Have you looked at the forums for the specific Games that you've had installation errors with? Games both old and new tend to have patches put out that mend a few bugs. Installing older programs on XP is best done by right-clicking on the setup executable and selecting the Compatibility Mode for the version of Windows the game was first designed for.

For more info = check in Event Viewer to try for more clues. Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer. You should have an entry for the exact time you tried your install.

[The Event Viewer error message is likely to help more than the cryptic system info sent to Microsoft by the Send Error utility - which tends to include lots of info about everything running on your system at the time of the problem - and can sometimes have too much information for simple troubleshooting].

The most likely quick-fix to work is using Compatibility Mode from the very start - during the installation of the game, and then double-checking the game's shortcut properties, to make sure that the target executable is also set to the same Compatibility mode.

The second-most likely fix is to use any patch available from the games vendor.

The third is to buy a more recent version of the game :)

See if that gets you round the error
. . . Gary

I have had this computer for approximately 2 years and have had absolutely no problems until recently. In fact the computer's performance hadn't change from when I first took it out of the box. I have constantly maintained the computer and I do always go to trusted websites.

About 2 weeks ago I left my computer running while I left for work. When I came home from work my computer was logged off from Windows.... I turned on my computer and tried opening Firefox. It took an unusually long time for the program to startup. Once Firefox loaded I noticed right away the computer would freeze every few seconds, and I would get the ?Not Responding? message. I exited out of Firefox and noticed it started happening with almost, if not every, program. If I am typing something, whether I'm on Microsoft Word, or on the internet, the computer freezes. It takes a few seconds for the letters to appear on the screen after I have typed them. It happens almost every time I try to scroll up or down. Some apps are worse than others.

I checked the performance of my CPU and memory during these freezes and surprisingly nothing happens. My CPU maybe gets up to 30-50% max when opening a program and never spikes during freezes. I have no unnecessary programs going on in the background and my startup programs are very minimal.

My computer boots up extremely fast and my virus scanner has shown nothing. I ran almost every imaginable scan possible and all say I have no viruses, malware, ... Read more

Wendy, don't lose your mind just yet. Go in to the Bios setup menu and make sure your boot order is set to:

CDRom - 1st
Floppy - 2nd
Hard Drive - (boot drive) 3rd

Be sure you save before you exit if you changed anything.

Pop the WinXP Operating System Disk in the CDRom

Boot up.....

And, away it should go so you can format your drive and load the OS...follow the prompts.

Post back if you have concerns.

I have a problem with a Sony Viao laptop. A couple of days ago it stopped connecting to the internet. The problem is not the cable (CAT5 cable from a DirecWay SAT dish) because other laptops (3 to be exact) work fine on the same line. I have already checked the device manager to make sure that there are no driver issues. The laptop is running Win Xp SP2. After a few hours of trying everything under my hat of tricks, I reinstalled the OS. After installing the appropriate drivers (network, video, audio, etc....) I got online! Went to sony.com for the remaining drivers and MS update to get compliant. Everything went gravy. Even restarted a few times when necessary. Shut down and packed it away. Turned it on a couple hours later, DAMN!!. The problem has returned. Am I missing something? Please help me!

I've tried looking on Microsoft, found nothing. Anyway, this is a very critical/important document, and I am at wit's end as to how to fix this. I thought maybe it was due to length, so I divided the doc into 2 separate files and saved as 2 diff. docs... still no luck.

I would test the fitness of your hard drive.
If you are on SP1 you can go directly to SP3 on XP
I would download off the MS site, and burn a cd.

Ok, in August I built a PC with Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. It has an Asus M4097XTD (I think) mobo, AMD Phenom II x4 3.4 ghz processor, ATI radeon hd 5830 gfx card, WD 600gb 7200 rpm hard drive, some typical cd/dvd drive, an antec 1200 case with enough fans in it that it actually cools you off when you sit by it, and a Cooler Master 1000 watt PSU, and 2 2GB ddr3 Mushkin RAm at 1330 mhz (I think)

The stupid thing just resbots itself at total random. It may work fine for a few hours, maybe even a day or two, then bam it rebots itself. Once this happens, it will start happening progressively more frequently until the thing is not useable at all for more than a minute or two. There is no rhyme or reason to what the computer is doing when this happens. Sometimes you can play STALKER call of pripyat at about max settings with the card and or processor overclocked and it will run super for six hours. Then other times it will reboot while surfing the net or just idle on the desktop doing nothing at all. It seems to work better during the day than at night, and after a series of reboots it seems to perform better if I just leave it off and go to sleep, then when I wake up it will work again for a few hours.

I have reinstalled Windows three times (and made sure to update from the beta version of the OS I was using to a more legit version). Each time before doing this I used a KillDisk utility from Hiren's Bootkit to write zeroes to the hard drive.

It's never had spyware or... Read more

Hello everyone, I'm Joel. I repair computers in my spare time as a hobby... and although I don't consider myself a master by any means, I can troubleshoot pretty well..... just signed up and searched your forums for an answer to this question, but this seems to be something no one I know has heard of, and from the looks of it, maybe not here either, but I'm going to try anyway....... and yes, I have read the thread stating what a piece of junk emachines are.

A friend of mine has an emachine. It's a T series, I think 2800 or something like that. Here's the problem(s):

She first told me that the computer was booting up normally, but when she got to the logon screen and sometimes just after, the computer would automatically shut-down immediately. By the time I got over there a few days later, she said when she pushed the power button, the computer made sounds like it was starting, but nothing would ever appear on the monitor. When she'd power it down, she would push the power button and it wouldn't turn on at all. In which case, she'd have to unplug it, re-plug it, and push power again.... at which case, the same thing would happen.

When I first arrived, I witnessed what she was talking about. Afte that, we pulled the plug (since it won't power down), and when I plugged it back in....... the processor fan automatically turned on and wouldn't turn off. So, I opened it up, and thought it could be the power supply. ... Read more

You could try removing the ram completely. If it beeps then it could be faulty/damaged ram, if it doesn't beep then the processor may be faulty/damaged.

Ok, so I wanted to do a reinstall of XP. I came here to the forums in the hopes that I would find some advice or tips to help. I did, and the tips worked very well.

Some strange things have been happening to my system that I need help with.

First.....After reinstalling XP, I find that the OEM disk didn't reformat my harddrive, but instead loaded XP over top of the old installation, so now I have 2 XP OS's to choose from when I startup my computer. Fixed that with the restore feature in XP.

Now.........When I start my computer, everything seems to go ok until I get to the blue WELCOME screen. Here I stay. Windows freezes at this point and does not progress any further. In order for me to get into windows, I have to use the Ctrl/Alt/Delete command. Once I do that, it takes a minute, but everything finally falls into place and my system seems to work fine although it seems a little slow.

I'd like to Fdisk my harddrive and reformat so that I can reinstall XP. After checking many times, I'm unable to find Fdisk on my system.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this task? I am at my wits end, and if you really must know, I'd like to get everything working before my wife finds out that I've screwed it up.:D

Thanks for you time and tips.

A:I'm losing my XP mind..argggggggggg

Okay... if you have the full version of XP you boot from the CD... just go to the BIOS and make sure it boots from the CD ROM drive before the hard drive. From there when it boots from the CD you should be allowed to format on the CD and then install.... but dependig on the format you use you can just use any boot disk you have laying around... but thats only if you are using Fat32....

I need Help. The Sims 2 is losing it's mind one thing at a time. It was working fine until the pictures of things that they were thinking turned into a bunch of squigly lines. But, then I realized that it was only the things that have to do with work. For example if in the asperation colum it would say "get a job in the medicine carreer" But the picture of the medicine sign wouldn't be there. It's like they all got erased. ??? It's like that for the job colum too were it would say what there job is the picture isn't there. And, then after a little while IT STOPPED PAYING ME! That made me mad because here I was with this broke sim and he wasn't making any money when he got home, it wouldn't say anything when he got home like "Your sim brought home 856 dollars home from work today" or when I got a promotion it wouldn't give me the money but it would say in the job description that I had a different job and that I got a raise. My big question is, if I reinstalled the game, would all my saved games, houses and people all still be there? or will it go back to the start like it was when i first installed the game.

I'm following the guide from Dell on my clean reinstall, but I;m running into a lot of problems. Before I begin I should say that before I even began installing drivers, for some reason there was no option in the driver manager for "Storage controllers" so I did not deleate anything and I am following the instructions straight from the dell site and the proper latitude e6410 driver manual page. AHCI is enabled in Bios as well with my Samsung 840 pro SSD

First in the picture below: it shows what the before and after should be once I install the Intel Rapid Storage Driver, but here's the thing, I don't even have a slot for "Storage Controllers" which should by default, have the Intel ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E SATA RAID Controller in the drive manager as seen in the third picture, and even after I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Driver, there still is no slot for the "Storgae Controllers" to been seen. However, in the second picture you'll see that I have a IRST icon and you can see the program running, so I'm completely lost.

Also in the third picture, dell instructed me to install the Intel AMT HECI Package, however upon tryign to install an error appears and says "my system does not meet the minimum requirements", yet I'm on the page for the proper drivers in installation order for my Latitude e6410, so again following the info right from the site, but strike two .

I'm ready to toss this thing out the window, but thought I would calm down... Read more

Poor FPS in Medal of Honor 2 and other games

You guys are all probably pretty sick of my same old question, but I thought I'd give it one last try because no one's really tried to answer it.
Here are my system specs:

AMD Athlon 1700 (1.47Ghz)
Shuttle AK31A mobo
VisionTek GeForce 4Ti 4400 128MB DDR
40GB Maxtor HD
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1
AOpen 52x CD-ROM
Sony 24x CD-RW
10x100 NIC

And my problem: I absolutely CANNOT under any circumstances get more than 96 fps in any game, at any resolution. Medal of Honor runs at a max of 96, even at 640x480 with all the settings turned down. I know vertical sync isn't the problem because I have that turned off. I have AGP 4x enabled in my BIOS, the latest drivers installed, and a fairly good system (as you can see above). I'm angry about this problem, because my card is performing like a Geforce 2. At times I get 30 or even 20 fps in games. That should not happen when I've got the 2nd best video card chipset on the market. Turning down the settings/resolution doesn't seem to matter, I get the EXACT same fps in games.
Normally I wouldn't care about FPS, I'm not too fussy, but in some games (Morrowind, for example) it actually gets jerky enough to be distracting, and after all the money I've spent recently on putting together this new system, I want something that's going to run games FAST, at least for a few months, not something that runs like it's two ... Morrowind is full 3D, not only that, it is probably the most demanding game on hardware yet released, due to both the graphical beauty of the game, and a shoddy 3D engine that draws everything, even the things you can't see.

To absinthe: Morrowind being jerky is absolutely normal. Many people built powerful Pentium4+Geforce4 systems especially to play the game, and started crying when they bought it and realised they were only getting 15-20fps in the towns and cities.

1) So my computer can start which is good news, I start without pressing F10 or F8 and I get to the windows xp welcome screen only to login either to my account or admin account and then logs me out immediately.
2) I press F8 and try to start in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, go to last know good config, all doesn't work.
3) Burned a BIOS cd that is dos in an .ISO file and tried to change the boot order through F10 and it can't boot the cd.

I have a PC with limited memory (20GB) and over the last few weeks I have been getting a message that I "am dangerously low on memory" and have to dump some things. Since then I have "dumped" practically everything I can possibly dump - including all the programming for my camera and printer/scanner. I am willing to do this because my daughter is really into her Simms program and I want her to be able to continue playing. I can use my office computer for "real" work purposes. HOWEVER... even though (for example) I may remove a program of 130MB- it only takes a day or two before I'm getting the warning again and have to free up more space. Where the hell is all this memory being sucked up? It's not like she plays Simms everyday.

I'm at the point now where I've tried to remove my Microsoft Office XP FrontPage (669MB), but I keep getting an error ? ?Error 1711. Setup cannot write information to youe hard disk. Check to make sure enough space is available?? WHAT? Does this mean that I don?t have enough memory to dump Front Page? How do I get around this one?
Advice anyone?

Somehow Antivira AV has gotten into my system and I can't get rid of it. I have went online and did a google search which told me to start my computer in Safemode with networking. I did that then as instructed opened internet explorer went to tools, internet options, connections, LAN Settings and finally I unchecked the Use Proxy server box. Then I tried downloading a couple of free anti spy ware programs. Antivira AV will not let me install ANY of them. Is soon as they begin to install it closes them and say Virus detected. So I don't know what to do. My computer is brand knew, only a few months old and has Windows 7 64bit. My computer did not come with a boot disk and unlike most other computers I have seen doesn't have a recovery partition on its hard drive.

I can still use Firefox but Antivira will not let me use Internet Explorer. none of my video or audio plug ins work and windeos media player doesn't work, they Anitvira shuts them all down saying virus detected. It is a stuggle to even type this message because of virus alert pop ups. Here is one now, it says:

Virus Alert!
Application can't be started!
The file ssvagent.exe is damaged.
Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?

If I click yes, it takes me to Antivira's website where I must pay them to get this to stop. How is this not illegal?

Any help would be appreciated.

Windows7 System Restore is very robust. I wonder if you've tried that yet? If not, try going back to a point a day or so before the event, and see how things are. I would use Method 2, Through System Recovery Options at Boot, for running System Restore.

If you're able to perform a System Restore, post new logs as outlined here:

I have a Toshiba Satellite L455 Laptop running Win7. Not long ago, due to a trojan and malware, I had to restore my system back to it's factory settings using F12 since I don't have a disc. Something has been off ever since and I have a feeling I may have something floating around my system...or I could just be paranoid now since it happened to me before. I have Norton 360, Malwarebytes, Spybot and a few other programs on my system. I am familiar with the HijackThis and DDS logs. For all I know it's nothing, but I would rather someone who knows exactly what they are looking at tell me what it may be. Please let me know if anyone would take some time out of their schedule to ease my mind. Thank you so much!

A:I'M losing HDD space, and my mind

Hi Sam

Did you clean install Vista after you upgraded? or try a repair? If you tried a repair, it sounds like it might not have gone well. If you have good backups and all the installation disks you need, you might have more peace-of-mind by starting over with a clean install.

As dai recommended in another current thread on this topic, you could check that autobackup didn't somehow get setup & started.

I posted tips in that other thread about things to check for, and some space-usage-limits you can apply --- http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...-down-lot.html

I can't say I recommend stopping running processes with Task Manager. To trim unwanted processes, keep them from starting in the first place. The Microsoft/SysInternals tools AutoRuns & ProcessExplorer can help you manage this sort of task --- http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...84cb9e2f5.aspx --- should you need help identifying if a process is a legitmate & necessary process, the TaskList at AnswersThatWork and the ProgramsList at sysinfo can help with that: --- http://www.answersthatwork.com/ --- http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php --- I also doubt that your trouble with disk-space usage is linked to the number of background processes - such activity might use up system memory, but not necessarily any hard disk space. I believe you might be mis-reading the Performance numbers in Task Manager, as you should be fine with 2gb of system memory physically installed, and only 512mb in... Read more

Well im having an amazing problem with my Internet connection, and im no noob. First the specks
-Windows Xp Pro, SP3.
-2.66 Quad core
-4gb Ram

Im using a linksys wusb54GC wireless adapter with the software, and ive tried so many things
1. uninstall and reinstall of the drivers didnt work
2. disconnecting and reconnecting didnt work
3. connecting to other networks didnt work
4. connecting through a LAN port didnt work

Ok now i did things that made things happen, but still not what i wanted to happen didnt happen

1. Removed the firewall. This cause it to say that there was a connection, but when IE was accesed it still said i was not connected. then when repaired it went back to no connectionn

2. I cleared all the internet files and other things that ccleaner removes and that caused the linksys thing to say that there was a continious connection between the adapter and access point (before each connection lasted about 5 secondes then reset). But the Zero config still said that there was no connection.

Also theres this odd-ness because when it says im connected, my ip address shows up as, but the default is as im sure most people know is 192.168.1.X so im clueless

so any help would be appreciated
o and a little off topic when i turn on my comp its got the log in, not the default, but the little like window and its not password protected, umm how do you get rid of that?

I believe my wife?s computer is losing its mind and has some kind of a performance or memory drain that occurs when the computer is left alone after working on it for a while. If the computer is running but not being used for 10-30 minutes for example (even shorter at times like even 5-10mins) then the computer is so unresponsive that we must reboot.

This computer is an HP Laptop running Win 7, has an i7 processor and 8GB Ram. We run Norton 360 Premier and System Mechanic but without the A/V element (it was afraid to download because I did not want it to conflict with Norton) to try and keep things clean

I checked the Task Manager and 7MB of my 8MB RAM is being used! Also after a fresh reboot and only running windows and whatever boots up my CPU usage is 50-60.

I found what appeared to be a similar issue from Walter Odim back in 2012. His issue i guess was some kind of a virus and posted on 12-29-2012, [SOLVED] Windows 7 memory leak issues.. He found something called a ?Watermark? (W32.Ramnit.a) process running but I can?t find that showing up after watching my processes. I am not as competent as he sounds like, however attached/below I have included the info asked for by the two Microsoft Support folks.

Is there any advice or help out there?

Okie dokie.

A handful of days ago my wife started complaining that the internet on our desktop was running slow. I checked it out and, sure enough, the internet had suddenly become both slower and more intermittent- trying to run more than one internet-related program at a time led to the connection dying, staggering, you know the drill.

Now, things like this have happened before, but I've always been able to find some way to get rid of whatever malware we've ran across. It's been a good while, but I started off with the basic stuff- Spybot: Search & Destroy came up with nothing, MalwareBytes ditto. Next up I tried ESET's online scanner, which had gotten rid of a nasty Firefox Google redirect bug, nothing. Microsoft's Malware Remover, nothing.

So I ran CurrPorts and sure enough, at any point I have about 20-50 listings of process "Unknown" opening http connections to various addresses in a "Time Wait" state. The only time they aren't there is right after startup. I can stop them but at least half of them come right back up immediately.

I'd be pulling my hair out if I had any. In addition I tried to run ComboFix just to get a log ready but it freezes after Stage_50 is complete, and when I started poking around I found a Qoobox folder on my C drive with this Catchme.log in the quarantine folder:

I have an old laptop with only 4GB of memory between the two disks. The last time I fragmented the C disk, last week, it had 15% of space or about 700MB. Suddenly the next day it jumped to under 200MB. It did that the month before, as well. I have known for some time I have to get another hard disk, but I am trying to hang in there a little longer. I have taken off everything I can think off and have moved everything to the other drive. When it is so low, I can't even System Restore.

Today I went to wireless and took off the system I was using, which was about 50MB. No difference was shown after the reboot.

What is happening here? Is there anything I can do? The Recycle stays empty and I use disk clean up at least every day.

I also get tons of pop-ups while on the internet which are making it almost impossible to do anything. I have researched some and found alot of threads referring me to SmitFraudFix. To be pretty straight forward I have a home a network and although all the machines can see each other the only computer where you can access files are on an XP machine. Honestly all I want to do is share a printer on a Vista machine but the file problem is no doubt related.

XP cannot acces vista even though it can see them, and the vistas cannot access each other even though they can see each other. All Vistas CAN access XP. Now I am posting because I spent an enormous amount of time on the search feature reading through posts without a solution.

This is what I have done:

Windows firewall turned off
Network is Private
Network discovery on
Network password off
Network file and print sharing on
No Live Onecare
Proper sharing rights is given to printer and folder
All computers have same workgroup (again no problems getting a file off an xp machine)
Tried to manually add printer by typing in address Ė no go
Updated the XP system with the LLTD patch (came in a service pack)
Confirmed these services are running: Computer Browser, Network Location Awareness, Server, TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Workstation
I even went into McAfee and made sure all my computers were trusted, they could see each other, and even opened the file sharing ports (just to test) Ė again the trouble is on vista, not xp.

I took the printer off my vista maching and plugged it into my xp machine and I could share the printer to both Vista machines. So there must be some other setting within Vista bloc... Read more

Hi:Here is a pretty complete and very detailed tutorial on the subject,if you have not already seen it.

This one primarily talks to Vista networking issues.

And here the TSG home grown tutorial,if you have not seen it.

Network XP and LAn with generic networking tips, courtesy of Johnwill,Networking Forum..

Here's a place to start: PC Chuck's Windows XP And Vista On The LAN Together(the link above)
Also, here's some generic networking tips for all networks.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

PING each remote computer by IP address, and if successful, PING by name. Open a command prompt as described above and type.

PING <ip address>
PING <computer name>

<ip address> - is the x.x.x.x IP address
<computer name> - is the computer name

A failure to PING is almost always a firewall configuration issue. Any failure to PING needs to be corrected before you go any farther.

Note: You can obtain the IP address and compute... Read more

So this may be outside of windows 7 scope, but hopefully there will be a genius here who can help me. I am going absolutely insane running two hard drives on my computer. I built this thing myself, and I am generally pretty tech savvy (I work for apple tech support even!) and I've been using computers since windows came out. However, this hardware configuration problem has me absolutely baffled. Without further adieu:

I have 1 64 Gb SSD, and 1 250 Gb magnetic drive. I originally installed windows 7, 1 video game, and microsoft office on the SSD, leaving me with about 20 gb free. Since I did this, nothing else has been installed on the drive.

My SSD has been showing less than 1 Gb free for several months. I have gone through it seriously file by file (outside of system files) and checked file sizes, and combined it does not all add up even close to 60gb usage, its more like 44 Gb. However, I'm just mentioning this as a precursor to my main issue today, because this may be relevant.

Today I'm trying to download a fairly large file, 6.5 Gb. This works by downloading the installer to a chosen file, then running the installer. Installer file size was 4.5 mb, so I just set that in my main C drive. Upon executing this file, it again asked me where I'd like to save the game files to. I selected my E drive, which is my secondary internal drive. It began downloading, then failed, and provided a link to download the files manually through their website. Went to th... Read more
