Dual booted 7 and xp a week ago... as of today xp won't work

Q: Dual booted 7 and xp a week ago... as of today xp won't work

Alright so here's my problem... I have dual booted my xp machine with windows 7. Also here lately I've been doing a lot of logo contests (i'm a graphic designer and I do contests on crowdspring.com). Well Photoshop is on my XP hard drive (i put xp on one hard drive and 7 on another) and today when I went to turn on my machine, my computer posted, went through the loading screen, then got to the "windows is starting..." screen and just froze there... it wouldn't go any farther. I tried restoring back one day and it didn't work, so I tried restoring back a full month and it still didn't work.

I have kaspersky antivirus and i keep it updated and it was running plus I tried restoring so I know it's not a virus...

Oh and I forgot to mention, it will boot into safe mode... just not regular...

any ideas? Windows 7 still works fine... that's what i'm using now to post (luckily I finally got my air card to work, i guess my original installation of either program didn't work because I completely uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it worked), so i can get online, it's just i can't use photoshop, which is my main concern....

so any suggestions would be fantastic...

Preferred Solution: Dual booted 7 and xp a week ago... as of today xp won't work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Due to corona virus my wife started working from our home office last week. She used our personal PC to connect to her work through Citrix with a few hiccups but eventually no problem. Our PC connects to internet via wifi due to distance from router.
This week she was unable to connect. Her IT department couldn't resolve it and said it can't connect because it is not cabled?????
So my wife had to go to work, collect her computer and bring it home. We now have our outdoor garden table in the living room as a makeshift office so she can plug her work computer into the router. Two kids and husband confined at home too!

Apart from buying a 10m network cable is there a fix to get connected via wifi?

Hello,

I booted my pc this afternoon and I opened up firefox to read my emails. I heard a clicking sound from speakers. Exactly the kind of sound I hear when connected to someone on skype - when they brush past their microphone or move it. I listened some more and heard a few piano notes (lol) and then fast typing upon a keyboard. Immediatley I thought that I was still connected to my friend on Skype from a previous night (as riduclous as that is) My microphone was still plugged in so i removed it but the sounds continued. I ctrl alt and delete, no skype running in proceses or applications.

I became seriously concerned and opened up cmd, typed in netstat -ano and to my disgust i had established connections from an unknown Ip/Ip's. I learnt how to do this a while ago and it is as far as my knowledge goes.

The PID of the established connections was 1864 x 4, 1863, 1620

I also wrote down the IP's

All conections seemed to be using port 80 if i am not mistaken.

Now when i checked the PID against services and processs one was Telephony among others (i think 1863) and that made me think Skype. The other was Avast!

After writing down all info on the netsat cmd, i closed firefox and the sound went away. At this point i was thinking maybe i had a pop up window open and an advert was playing or something (it has happened before lol), but this does not explain the connections.

Skype had been starting up on boot even though I had disabled it from doing so using msconf... Read more

I have not installed any programs on my C drive since last week. last week I had 60GB free space on my laptop of a 150GB hard drive with only the same programs (minus three large programs) that was on my 120GB hard drive before that! now my computer reports less than 10GB free when my 120GB had 30GB free with the exact setup! where is my space going & how do I get my 60GB back?

A:C drive: last week 60GB free space, today <10GB!

1) Please scan your system with BOTH your installed anti virus app AND with MalwareBytes

2) Use Disc Cleanup. Be sure to click on the "More Options" tab and then system restore button, which will delete all but the most recent restore point (system restore eats a LOT of space).

3) Download, install and run TreeSize and see where the space is being utilized (http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/)

In Win 7, drive D works fine.

Dual booted with what and what? Procedure will vary. You likely mean Windows 10 and Linux but even if Linux what distro do you want to install? Makes a difference in procedure particularly BIOS settings. If you are looking for a recommendation get Ubuntu 16.10, latest stable version.   https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

I am part of a computer club for seniors.
We have 8 PCs dual booted with Win7 and 8.1 using Easy BCD
The PCs also have Deep Freeze installed.
None of the PCs will shut down from Win 8.1.
We have tried clearing the CMOS as suggested in another forum but without success.
Please help.
Thanks

A:Win 8.1 does not shut down when dual booted with W7

Well, first of all, unless you go to some trouble to make system changes, Windows 8 does not Shut Down; instead, it goes into a new form of Hibernation which leaves all the "drives" that it was using, while it was running, still open -- preventing you from accessing these drives from the other OS. This is how it is designed to work.

If this is the problem, you need to go into Win8 and disable FastStartup. After that, when you shut down Win8, it will really be shut down.

Second, I read a little about Deep Freeze and it appears its primary purpose is to prevent local changes to the PC environment such that, every time the PC is booted, the same environment is in place. Since the vendor claims it works in Win8, my suggestion would be to contact them, see if their Tech Support can help you as it may be tricky to get it working.

Well as the title says I have dual booted Vista and Xp. My first thought was to do this to eventually delete the vista partition. But, after a few attemps i could not get the 2 OS's to properly boot. A couple of days ago my laptop decided to crach and reboot, once it had rebooted my vista OS would not load. So I had to insert my windows XP disk and boot from it and install xp on a partition that i had made for emergencies. After that i have not been able to load up the vista partition. I am currently using an Acer Aspire 5050 laptop. I have had 2 problems occur so far.

1. I was going to dual boot Vista and Xp so that I could eventually delete the Vista partition as Vista sux badly (Y). But, I cannot seem delete/format the vista partition from xp's disk manager as the Delete/ Format button is greyed out.

2. Windows XP cannot seem to find some of my hardware. I have an intergrated sound card, intergrated video card and an internal wlan card that xp cannot seem to pick up. I cannot remember the names and models of the wlan card and sound card but i know that my vide card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 integrated graphics card. Although even when i try and download the catalyst installer for this card it says my system does not have the hardware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Deleting Partition w/ Dual booted OS

Post up a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt drive map and listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu: Screen Shots

What were the reasons you preferred 32 bit again? Often if your OEM only supports 64 bit they tell you there are no 32 bit drivers, but they can still be found on the Device's Support Downloads webpage or doing a Google search - after you've run several rounds of Windows Updates (optional) which may deliver them itself.

Since you've already installed we can help you find the drivers if you want to give it a test drive for awhile longer. Don't be scared off by OEM claims about 32 bit drivers.

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if I am allowed to post this on here since its partially about windows 8, so if it's not allowed then I apologize.

First off I have a 2TB internal HDD and 1.75TB of that is for windows 7 the rest for 8, and everything runs okay at the moment as I symlinked my steam games.

Anyway, I can access windows 8 safe mode easily enough through the select operating system screen, but how do I now access windows 7's safe mode? it must be possible, preferably without booting into it.

I may not have looked hard enough and if it's extremely simple I'm going to feel stupid

Hello Cryptoncore,

I dual booted my PC a while back. I originally had XP on my primary partition, and when win7 came out, I created a logical partition (off of the free space of that same hard drive) and put Win 7 on it. So even though Win7 is on a logical drive, IT IS the boot drive (says in computer mgt > disk mgt)

I haven't used XP for some time now, and with Win7's new XP Mode function, I don't need my XP partition. Removing it isn't that easy though, cuz XP is on the primary, and Win7 is on logical.

Please help. I don't want to reinstall everything from scratch.

I've downloaded Paragon Partition Manager 9 Pro, which should supposedly allow me to make my logical partition as primary, and also downloaded Partition Wizard, in case I'll need em.

I saw the following guide on some blogs, in case this is of any value:

1. Choose Advanced partitioning and hard disk management
2. You can see now your partitions
3. right click on your win7 partition
4. choose option "make partition primary"
5. apply changes

your pc will reboot a few times, i think twice :)

- But if you want to delete it, you should change win7 partition to your active partition. You can find this option near the "make partition primary" option.
- If you made your win7 partition as active, your xp partition will be the booting partition, so be careful! If you don't have the booting files (ntldr.exe boot.ini) on your xp partition, you will not be able to boot. In this case I recommen... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Remove XP from Dual Booted PC with Win7

The XP partition probably has the boot files for both XP and Win 7. The partition marked System has the boot files, the partition marked Boot has the OS files for the OS that you booted. Not the way most people think of it, but that's how they are defined:
Definitions for system volume and boot volume

You need to copy the bootmgr file and Boot folder from the XP partition to the Win 7 partition.
After copying the files, and removing the XP partition, and making the Win 7 partition active, you'll need to boot with the Win 7 DVD and run Startup Repair, possibly several times.

Another possibility is that Win 7 created a small (100-200 MB) partition as the first partition on the drive. This will be seen as the System Reserved partition in Win 7 Disk Management. In this case you may be able to delete the XP partition from Disk Management while booted into Win 7, though you'll probably get warnings. If you don't create another partition to take it's place (and sometimes even if you do), Win 7 might not boot without running Startup Repair by booting with the Win 7 DVD.

Never hurts to create an image of the drive first, just in case things just don't work right.

Be gentle, this is my first post.

My system is dual-boot, both OS being Windows XP-Pro 32 bit on their physically independent hard drives. See gear below. My purpose is to create a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). The DAW is traditionally configured:
HDD #1=Drive C: = OS/Apps/Data&Documents - regular workstation for surfing net, running MS Office, doing emails, realtime security apps, occasional solitaire - the usual
HDD#2=Drive D: = OS/DAW Apps only - no data, isolated from internet
HDD#3=Drive E: = DAW Library, tracks, loops, samples, audio data - no OS/Apps, just NTFS formatting
HDD#4=Drive F = DAW working tracks, audio data, no OS/Apps, just NTFS formatting

My question: How do I update&upgrade OS and Apps on Drive D, the DAW drive isolated from the internet? Drive C: is the one with Cable Internet Access. I have no no RAID, no SCSI. The simpler the better.

Ok, so I already had XP SP3 installed. I ran the Vista DVD, used the built-in partition utility to create a partition, and installed Vista on the new partition, thus giving me a dual-booted system. Upon boot-up, a black and white screen is displayed where I choose XP or Vista. Well, everything went fine until I tried to install Vista SP1, the installation failed (I was using the downloadable exe because it wasn't appearing in Windows Update). Alot of sources online said that you can't install SP1 until you've installed all other critical updates. So, I ran Windows Update and installed all updates marked "important". I believe there were 43. After Windows Update finished, the computer rebooted and the Vista screen was displayed where it says it's installing the updates, in 3 steps. After step 3 it rebooted one more time. This time, when Vista tried to boot, I got a black screen with an error message:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.

2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."

3. Click "Repair your computer."

Installing updates was successful this time. I installed a batch of about 41. Then, a couple more popped up, installed those. Finally, 1 more appeared and I installed that. After this, SP1 finally appeared in Windows Update. I tried installing it, and it went through all the motions. Downloaded and "installed" it in windows update, then it rebooted and did all of the configuring and installing with the 3 steps and everything. When it finally rebooted to Windows, a dialog box told me that the installation had failed. So, I downloaded the SP1 executable and tried installing it that way. Again, it went through all of the motions and seemed to be going fine, but it rebooted after Step 2 and upon reboot a black screen was displayed where it got stuck on this entry:

Hi all,

I'm on a dual booted Toshiba laptop (Win7pro+8.1 - for reasons and basic setup, please see first post this thread: Multi Boot computer - how to keep data and programs in sync ), which has been running real fine so far for about one and a half years.

When setting up this System, I completely wiped the disk and installed the OSes according to some of the tutorials found around the seven- and eightforums. Of course, I had to manually download and install all drivers afterwards. Among the things installed, I must some "non-driver" programs hidden in Toshiba's "driver" download section, and that got me "Toshiba Service Station" installed.

Service Station turned out to be issuing maintenance-related messages from Toshiba (e.g. WRT battery pack problems they have been having - I was not affected), but also software updates (like for a Toshiba-supplied Blue-Ray player that I also installed accidentally).

About a year ago, though, Service Station started (and has since kept) bugging me about a BIOS / UEFI update. I refused it at first because I didn't (don't) know the risks of installing a BIOS update on a dual booted system. Okay. First I'll describe what I intended to do, followed by me explaining my problems, and ended with my actual question.

Intentions:

Fixing my Master boot record file with a FIXMBR and removing my Ubuntu installation due to lack of usage, amongst things.
Merging the old Linux partitions space with one of my current NTFS partitions for the extra space (all above-mentioned partitions are on the same HDD, for the record). Would've done this with Partition Magic.

Problems:

Inserted my Windows XP Home Edition into my computer and rebooted. Let it boot up and pressed R to go to the recovery console.

This is where it all went wrong, unfortunately (insert reference to Murphy laws here).

Instead of going to the recovery console to let me fixMBR it reported that it couldn't find a HDD connected, and to press F3 to reboot.

Naturally I got worried, since I hadn't gotten around to doing backups of everything I wanted to keep. Even then, over two years without reformatting kind of makes you fear the reformats in question and makes you want to avoid it as long as possible.

Enough about my dislike for reformats.

In case it wasn't clear enough, here is/are my question(s):

How do I fix my "Recovery Console". As in, what is wrong with it? Why is it unable to find a HDD present?

Alternatively: Is there any way to fix my Master Boot Record without having to use the Recovery Console, a live cd, or the ultimate boot cd (or any option that needs me to ... Read more

I just bought the 500 GB Seagate SATA HDD for my Dell Optiplex GX 620 system.
I installed XP PRO in C: & Vista in the adjacent partition making it a dual boot system.

I used it for a week with no problems.

Then I installed a program called OSL 20000 Boot Manager.suggested by a friend to make it possible to install more than two OS. I also installed another program called Driver Magician also suggested by him although I had already installed the proper drivers but thought it might be useful in future.

After installing those two programs I booted the computer 2-3 times & it seemed to work fine.

But next morning when I started the system it will not detect the Hard Disk at all.
If I connect the second Hard Disk, then that hard disk also doesn?t get detected. So this new hard disk makes all other working Hard Disks ( with XP on them ) also disappear.

I tried normal checks like cable & power cord & drive does spin & tried to repaire thru Vista DVD but it says there is no hard drive.

I need professional help because I have lots of data on it ( most I have backed up ) but returning for a replacement would leave all my data on it including personal data.

Can you guys help ?

Thank You.

A:New Dual boot HDD is not getting detected after only one week use

Sounds like the "Master Boot Record" on the 500MB drive has been destroyed, or the drive itself has gone bad. The only way to tell for sure is to use the drive manufacturers install software, to reformat the drive, if it can

I have a problem. Two problems to be exact, but the most pressing being that my mouse doesn't work. It is stuck in the middle of the screen, and the cursor is invisible.

The original problem I had, prior to developing this new mouse problem, was the start menu. Neither the windows button nor the icon on the bottom left corner of the screen would open up the windows menu.

To try the solve that, I followed the instructions found in this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnAf_NccrXw&app=desktop

I was directed to restart my computer.
Upon restarting it, I was booted into safe mode, BUT my mouse wouldn't move, and the cursor was invisible.

I have tried unplugging the mouse and restarting multiple times, but to no avail. So currently, my main issue is that the computer won't detect my mouse, and I am unable to do anything.

If anyone could please help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

A:Win10 Booted in Safe Mode - Mouse doesn't work

Does the keyboard work? If it does you can do a lot with it, without a mouse. Just takes a bit of trial and error.
Is the mouse plugged into a USB3 port perhaps? If so, try a USB2 port. Even if not, use a different USB port. If plugged into the rear USB, try the front.

Shut down machine last night. in morning i booted the pc and it said it was out of virtual memory. was running at a snails pace. the screensaver tried to start and wouldnt so i terminated it and the screen res automatically went to 640X480. i set it back to 1024X768 (or something like that) and the screen looked like it was curved out at the edges like i had changed the screen options (i hadnt). now the internet wont work on that machine. the wireless network still works if i enter the addresses manually (ip,def gateway etc) but the internet wont work even though the wireless monitor shows it as being connected (i entered the dns address the same as my other networked pcs which work). when i put the configuration back to automatic nothing works and the ipconfig command shows a completely wrong ip address from which the dhcp server would give it (the other 8 machines work fine and have an incremental ip address for each, like the other pc should) the pc runs win2000. i update regularly and have avg, spybot, and msantispyware.
any help would be appreciated
p.s iv tried the basics like uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless pci card

Hey Guys! I decided that with all of windows 10's fine features and all, I still miss windows 7 terribly and all the games that worked on it. So a solution is to buy yet another windows 7 disk and do another dual boot.

Windows 10 came pre installed on this machine so I understand that I am trying to set this up the hard way....as usual...

First question: is it worth trying to install 7 when 10 was installed first or should I blow it away then install 7 and reinstall 10.

Second question: All touchscreen things will still work?

Last thing: Last time I downgraded an os I had a fun time trying to find drivers that were only compatible with windows 8 thus installing drivers that were often times intended for other hardware. Will my computer have drivers for all of my stuff?

PC wizard apparently doesn't run on ten so here are specs from device manager.
Specs: HP Notebook 15-ac121dx
cpu: intel i3-5010u
Ram: 6 gig of somethin
Graphics:Intel HD 5500
Touchscreen: dosen't say, looks like a standard windows driver.
Lan: Realtek PCIe FE family adapter
Wlan: Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 BGN Wi-Fi Adapter
Tap-windows adapter? What that?
The rest of the drivers such as mouse, webcam, sound im pretty sure I can find on my own without much trouble.

Thanks.

A:More dual booting fun! Today 10 is intalled first and I want to add 7.

You should install 7 on a separate drive, with the 10 drive unplugged.

Then use the boot menu key to launch the boot menu, then chose the drive with 7 when you want to use it.

Of course you`re gonna set the drive you want to go into automatically as default.

Keep the drives separated like that, you should never have an issue.

You biggest stumbling block will be installing 7 on that motherboard.

Let us know how you make out

My personal advice, do not even fool with the 10 drive, disconnect it b4 you attempt any of this.

Don`t want you coming back later with an "I can`t boot into my PC thread"

And I highly rcommend asking this same question at Tenforums.

Hi!
Alright, so I screwed up big time. I had Windows XP pre-installed (C:) when I bought the computer nearly 3-4 years ago. Then I dually installed Windows 7 to a logical partition (D:), and then experimentally installed Windows 8 Pro WMC (G:) to the last partition, which is currently the default. I needed some space, so I decided to remove Windows XP, and like an idiot, formatted the C: partition with GParted. Now I get the "Reboot and select proper boot device... or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" error. I used Windows 7 Repair disk, tried attempting repairs with Windows 8 Pro installation disk, tried changing partition flags (I don't even know what they are), tried a warez disk, but nothing works. Even the Win8 installation disk doesn't show any operating system installed. Also, my HDD is set as first boot priority in BIOS.

Any help is appreciated!

I attached a screenshot of my partitions from GParted.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Although it is named Windows Developer Preview, the partition has Wndows 8 Pro WMC in it.

I have an Acer Aspire 5733, on which has a 640GB HDD. On that I have Windows 7 home premium. I've just Installed Windows 8 Release Preview on a VHD on the internal HDD, and to do that, (on windows 7) went into Disk Management and created 50GB VHD, which I attached. I then made a Windows 8 DVD, which I put into the drive and booted from. I got up to the HDD selection, and I tapped SHIFT + F10. I then typed DISKPART and then (w/o quotes) "Select vdisk file c:\Win8.vhd" and "attach vdisk" and then ALT+TABed back to the HDD selection screen. I pressed re-fresh and chose my 50GB VHD. I then installed to that drive. After it had installed, I successfully got into Windows 8. I found that the windows 7 was missing in the BCD so I installed EasyBCD and added Windows 7 and the location of the installation. I then re-booted the laptop to get onto Win7, but it came up with the error 0x0000248. And the digital driver can't be signed (or something like that).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
Edit: I have managed to get the Blue windows 8 OS selector when I turn on the computer, but windows 7 still fails to load properly

Hi
I need some help with a dual booted system. I have windows XP and Windows 7 pro 32-bit on my work computer. I came back to work after the holidays and was unable to boot into windows 7. I put in the windows install disk and tried to reinstall the software but the disk just try's to repair the disk. "fixing sectors this may take over 1 HR" this was started at 9:00 am ran all day when I returned to work the next day it was still running. Hard drive is partitioned into 2, 75gb partitions. windows xp work fine. but I need to install windows 7 to run a program called "Solidworks"
I can see the partition as drive E when booted into xp. I can access the files and folders on the partition. I want to do an install of Windows 7 pro that will not affect these file. But when I try to run the install program the repairing disk starts again. The system repair tools menu does not show up.
We I first tried to run install the program told me I needed to be in windows to run the disk.
Will removing the Windows directory from the drive (as I said above I have access through xp) allow me to install the program again. and can I do it with out losing my files.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give I'm at a loss.

A:dual booted p/c xp/windows 7 system won't boot to windows 7

It's interesting that it seems to want to run Disk Check
so maybe if you boot into the disk's System Recovery Options Command line to run Option 3 Disk Check command it will complete and repair the file system as it seems to be attempting.

Otherwise to reinstall you must boot into the Win7 disk to do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7. Boot the disk as shown in How to Boot A Computer from CD or DVD - YouTube.

Choose the Win7 partition, format it and install. Set it up perfectly as shown in the tutorial which shows the tools and methods to keep it that way.

A:Dual booted Windows 7 and 8, getting 0x0000248 on Windows 7 Boot

In Windows 8:
1. Download and install Visual BCD Editor. It comes with "Dual-boot Repair" tool.
2. Run Dual-boot Repair
3. Click on "Repair BCD" -
4. For Windows 7 folder select d:\windows - assuming Windows 7 is mapped to d:. Click OK.
5. Reboot
Windows 7 should boot.

To add Windows 8 if missing in BCD:
1. Attach VHD
2. Run Dual-boot Repair - "Automatic Repair".
This will make Windows 8 boot by default.

How to add recovery on F8 - advanced boot options:
Dual-boot Repair tool - Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista - second part of page.
(Repeat when booted to Windows 7 to add its own recovery on F8, and in Windows 8 to add its own recovery.)

Hello all,

I am new to Microsoft Project 2007 and have a question regarding how this software defines a work week.

I have created a new calendar that is a 6 day work week and 60 hours a week for a project that I am working on. Thus, I know how to change the working time, the default work week, and under the "options" tab in the "change working time" menu I have changed the defaults to match what my calendar has for starting and ending times, etc.

My question is since I have changed the work week to start on Monday, if I start a task on a Monday and assign it a duration of 1 week, the task does not end until the next Monday. Since I have defined a 6 day work week, a week to me seems like it would be 6 full working days, and if it started first thing Monday it would end at the time I assigned on Saturday as the close of work. If I assign the task a duration of 0.98 weeks it ends on the Saturday that I wish it would end on, it does in fact end on Saturday.

If you change the view to "calendar" a task that starts on a Monday and has a duration of 1 week, or any round number of weeks, will continue through all Sundays and into Monday at the time that I set work to start on Monday.

How do I make a week in my situation last only 6 working days? (IE how can I start a task that will take one week, start on a Monday and have it end on Saturday at the close of business?) Obviously tasks that are constrained to start directly after this task that end o... Read more

A:Microsoft Project 2007 Work Week Defiition

Just to clarify, if you have a task with the Project standard calendar with a duration for 1 week and start it on a Monday, it will finish on that weeks Friday. If you then assign a task that is start to finish constrained to the first task, it will start on the next Monday after the first task finished the previous Friday. My problem is that since I changed the calendar, the tasks run through the non working days and up to the start of business to the next day.

Thanks

Hi all. I ask for any pointers to start looking at this if you can.

This week after some updates from MS in my W10 OS I noticed that clicking the middle button is not working at all. Normally in a browser you can open in a new tab or close a tab, etc.

I have a Microsoft wireless mobile mouse 1000. Whet I get this mouse and connected for the first time (windows 8 at the time) some driver was installed and also "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard center" was downloaded and installed. Everything worked fine. I upgrade to W10 and no problem with this until earlier this week.

Testing the options in the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard center, none of them works when I click the middle button. I just download and installed the version from the site. Installed in a regular fashion and in compatible mode for W8. (can you believe this is not for w10?

The scroll function works fine even the Flip scrolling direction.

Later I went to a DELL desktop (W8) and I tried the MS mouse there and works fine. Maybe I have to "tell" W10 to forget his is a MS mouse and to have the default driver. If such, how?

Also, I tried the mouse from that desktop here in windows 10 and works fine. (dell mouse without installing anything myself).

Any ideas are welcome and appreciated,

Best regards and thanks for your time

This is a really stupid problem. My Acer Netbook with XP worked fine on my wireless network at home this morning. I unplugged it, folded it shut and put it in my bag to bring to work with me (I did not shut it down, never do, has always connected right away). At work, it says it's connected but has little or no connectivity because it can't get an IP address. I've done the refresh/renew, stack resets, nothing works. I got it to connect normally once, (no idea what I did) but couldn't get to the internet, so rebooted and then it won't connect at all again. I will know whether this is a hardware failure or not when I get home and try to connect, but does this sound like a router problem, or something internal? Thanks for any help.

I even uninstalled then reinstalled audio drivers. I have also gone to volume mixer, playback devices and recording devices but according to it the speaker works fine. I tried adjusting the volume in volume mixer but it keeps coming back down just as always.  The main problem is that the sound is stuck on mute and I just want it resolved.
