I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Title: SharePoint 2010 document broken link due to unrecognized File protocol: ms-word
Please help point me in the right direction. I checked the File association on Internet settings and document type docx is associated with Word, but it won't open.

Try refining this symptom description. What exactly do you mean by "it won't open"? Answering that might explain why you are posting this in an IE forum. E.g. right-click, Copy Shortcut whatever it is that you are calling
a "broken link" and Paste it here.
Otherwise, try right-click, Save target as... to put the file into your Downloads (Ctrl-j) and then use right-click, Properties to find its
full path and name. Note that that would be quite different from what the Copy Shortcut step would have shown.
Next I suspect that the Set Associations GUI tool may not be showing you the correct information. FWIW it certainly doesn't show me the correct information in W8.1. So, I would try checking if you have an explicit association and file type combination
by using the assoc and ftype commands in a cmd window. In fact, instead of just showing the ftype for the current association I would use this:
ftype | find /i "word"
Then you could take the most appropriate template (not necessarily the one pointed to by the assoc command) and fill it in on a Run... dialog (or a cmd window command line if you also went back to ensure that the implied program
would be found by your PathExt shell variable.) Etc.
Doing that would make your symptom description independent of IE. All it would have done for you is download the file. If you couldn't open it then it would be because either the file was saved incorrectly (in which case you could rename it)
or it was bad.

Hi,

Is there a way to connect Access and Sharepoint together so that the following can happen.

User adds a new record to an Access 2010 database published onto Sharepoint
They then run a mail merge from Word 2003 which picks up the new record.
At the moment only 1 PC is running Office 2010 and Windows 7. The rest are still Office 2003 and Win XP, hence the use of Sharepoint.

Thanks

Hello All

Win 7 Prof 32 bit
Office 2010

I've been trying to create a Task in Outlook from a Word Document that I have created on this computer. The idea is that a shortcut to the document is created as an Outlook Task. Click on the shortcut, and voila - there is the document.

The "Create Microsoft Office Task" icon DOES send the document to Outlook as a Shortcut in a Task, however, when I open the task, Outlook says:"Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: Shortcut to 'document name'."

It's NOT an unsafe attachment; Outlook WILL OPEN this document if I send it as an email attachment. Outlook will open .docx files types.

This is a one person computer...no network, no sharing. And this problem has been driving me crazy. This would be a wonderful feature, if I can get it to work.

Anyone have any ideas what I (or Outlook) are doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

A:Creating a Task in Outlook 2010 from a Word 2010 Document

I think this will do the job for you:
Add & Create Outlook 2010 Tasks From Word 2010

.

Quote:
You can create a task from Word 2010 document and save it under Outlook 2010 tasks. This feature is by default concealed but you can make it apparent on Quick Access toolbar and use it directly.

In order to use this feature, you need to make this feature apparent on Word 2010 Quick Access Toolbar, head over to Quick Access Toolbar and from small drop down button click More Commands.

You will reach Word Options dialog. Hit drop-down button present beneath the Choose commands and select All Commands. Now scroll-down the list and find Create Microsoft Outlook Task command. Select it and click Add (>>) to show it on Quick Access toolbar pane. Once added, hit OK.

First save the document and then select any portion of the text in the document from which you want to create the task, from Quick Access toolbar, click Outlook task button.

Upon click, it will create Outlook task for the Word document and you will reach Outlook Task dialog where you can set Start and Due date for the task and add more information about it. Save & close the task to view it under Outlook tasks.

When opening task in Outlook 2010, you can also view the document from which it was created from, just double-click the document to open it.

I don't know what it's called but I'd like to be able to click on someones name and have it bring me to the place where I have that person's information. I've believe I've seen that capability in some documents.

For example, I have my parents family group sheet in which I am listed as their son.
Then on another page is my familys group sheet
So I'd like to be able to click on my name Lawrence (which I expect would be in blue underline font) in my parents family group sheet and be brought to my name Lawrence (I don't know whether or not would be in blue underline font) in my family group sheet

How do I do that?

This is for a friend so I don't have access to the computer yet. She downloaded a word document from her hotmail by clicking on download then open instead of save. She was working on the file and then she stated she went to File > Save. She did not get prompted to save the file in a different location (that usually happens on other Office versions).

She went back to Word but cannot locate the file in her open section or the recent document list. She is on Windows 7 so I finally found the temp folder for her computer but could not locate the temporary file that would have been saved.

Is there any other locations other than the temp folder and the default folders that the file could have been saved? Personally I don't think it saved at all.

Hello, Welcome to SF,

Try these steps and see whether it works

In Word 2007, go to Office button > Word Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect

Is there a mechanism in Word 2010 (and also Excel, perhaps) which allows me to DELETE the document I'm currently viewing?

I'd imagine it would be under the "File" menu if it existed, but I've not found it so far.

An example of its use: I prepared a document of things to take to a reunion. My PC was still on when I got home, displaying the list (which I'd saved, as I went along). I didn't know what I'd called the document, and I wasn't certain where I'd filed it, but I know I wanted to delete it.

A:How to delete the current document in Word 2010?

Of course you can't delete open files!
But you can hover over file->open to see the last files you opened. Open the one you want. Do a fake "save as" to see the folder it's in.

Now you know the file name and location, so delete it in windows file explorer

I work at a small accounting firm and earlier this year we purchased some new laptops which run 64 bit Windows 7. Since then, we have started to upgrade Office on our computers. On one of the Windows 7 computers, I installed Office 2010 last week. We also use CCH's program ProSystem fx Engagement. Now, when opening Word inside of Engagement (not sure if this happens outside of Engagement because the user can't recall it happening) an error occasionally comes up which says "error creating obj document." The user hits okay, which is the only option, and then receives a second error that says "obj document is nothing." She then again selects okay and moves on. It doesn't seem to cause any issues with functionality so I'm not rushing to fix it but we want to get rid of the errors and hopefully have an idea of how to correct it in the future.

Please keep in mind I'm a CPA helping with computer issues. Since we are relatively small, we don't actually have our own IT department or person. We have to go outside. I do pretty well keeping my home computer up and running if I can research the issue and find a solution. I've looked for a while and can't find a solution in a dumbed down language that seems to fit the issue.

Hello experts, I have a word file that appears to have been corrupted. We were working on it through SharePoint and at some point the style information seems to have been corrupted. When you use the style inspector and click on a location in the text it will say the correct information. For example a level 2 heading will look and appear as a level 2 heading in the text and have the correct style attached. However, when you use the navigation pane or create a table of contents nothing is indented as it should be (level 2 is not subordinate to level 1). I have read that there are table of contents styles in Word but I don't know how to change these. Does anyone know if this would fix the issue?

I tried manually to 'reset' a few styles (highlight text and reclick 'level 2 header' ) which fixed the issue in that instance. However, this is a long document (150 pages) and I wouldn't want to do this for the whole document.

If anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated,

The first thing you must do is copy the file from the stick to the HD. Don't make matters worse by trying to work with it from the stick. There's a possibility the document is already corrupted, but the problem you describe may not really be document corruption. It may be just an annoying little glitch occasionally seen in older versions of Word, whereby letters in a line get compacted in printing:
The conventional solution is this:
In the Print dialog, switch to another printer and then back, or close Word and delete the files you find by searching for
     ~$*.*;*.tmp
Then restart Word.
If that doesn't help, then, since this is Word 2003, there are a couple of other things you can try:
In Word's Open dialog, select the file, click the arrow beside Open, and choose Open and Repair.
If that doesn't help, then change the "Files of type" setting to "Recover Text from Any File." You'll get a file with a lot of "garbage" at the beginning and end and just plain text in between, but, since I'm guessing there's not a whole lot of formatting involved in this document, just reco... This new word is annoying. I'll be typing a paragraph and then as I go down the page lines I just typed will disappear, or they will blend into another which makes them unreadable. Sometimes single spacing will turn into double spacing, or into no spacing. Sometimes lines of text will be doubled under each other. All the text is still there the way I typed it, but it's not visible when reading over the document. If I want to go back to read what I wrote I have to insert returns into these invisible lines of text to have them appear again. If I scroll up then I can't see the last lines of what I wrote, they are not even there until I again have to insert my cursor and then start pressing enter. I don't understand why everything keeps shifting around like that. Shouldn't it remain static throughout? It's the most annoying thing to have to type a document and have to go through these magic tricks every time.

I am trying to format a very long manuscript and am having a page numbering issue.

I know how to link/unlink headers and footers and create numbering within sections. So, my chapters are sectioned and numbered and each chapter starts with page 1.

I also need a running total of pages. I can't seem to have two formats in the same header (a section page numbering and an overall page numbering) so I planned to put the chapter numbers in the headers (unlinked to previous) and the total page numbering in the footer because they can still be linked.

Sounded good, but when I format the page numbering to start with '1' in the header, even though it is unlinked, the page formatting changes in the footer.

Is there any way around this?

I'm using Word 2010 in Microsoft Office Professional 2010 and Windows 7 Professional, if that helps.

Thanks.

I have got Microsoft Office 2010 installed on Windows Vista and on Windows 7, and when I open a document in Word, I would like to view it at a zoom of 100% instead of the default zoom of 150%. I tried to follow the instructions over here in order to reduce the zoom permanently, but the macros simply disappear each time I close Word and open it again. I also followed the idiot's guide to installing macros as indicated in the link above, and the macros worked...but as mentioned before, they refuse to stick around.

What do I do in order to prevent the macros from disappearing?

Thanks in advance for your help

A:Word 2010: how do I change default viewing zoom of document?

i've never needed macros - i use the zoom slider at the bottom-right of the document window.

with saved documents, it seems that the zoom level is saved with the file - so if you saved at 100%, it will open later at 100%.

to set the level for new blank documents, use the slider, then close down word - the next new document will appear at that same level, with no need to save.

that's how it works for me, anyway.

just tested, and it keeps the level after a reboot too.

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way in either Excel or Word 2010 to add text to a line before the text. So, for example I have something like this:

Name1
Name2
Name2
etc..

And then I want to add "1 " before each line in a way that is copy pastable, so it looks like so:

1 Name1
1 Name2
1 Name3
etc..

Is there anyway to do this. it's mostly just to help with copying text from Word/Excel documents onto forums so it formats correctly. Any help at all is much appreciated

Cheers,

A:Solved: Word/Excel 2010 Adding text before each line in a Document

Hi Matt,
It's probably a little cleaner to do it in Excel than in Word, but also a few extra steps. In Word:

You can run a find a replace. Without including the quotes, find "^p" (the paragraph symbol) and replace with "^p1 " (there's a space after the 1). This replaces the paragraph break at the end of each line with another paragraph break and then "1 " at the beginning of the next line. The problem with this method is that the first line won't have a 1 in front of it (because there's no paragraph break before that line) and the last line will have a stray 1 after it. But this should be relatively minor cleanup.

Alternatively, in Excel:

Insert a column to the left of your names. Without including the quotes, enter "1" in the first cell and copy it down your spreadsheet. Insert a column to the right of your names and enter this formula (assuming your names are now in column B):

=A1&" "&B1

This should give you the result you're looking for in column C. Hope that helps.

A:Integration of Access 2007 , Sharepoint 2010 and Info Path 2010

I see no one is offering anything on this post. Not a great site for SharePoint(SP) information. But SP its self is relatively new for developers. We can't afford real SP developers so se make our own. Not a great plan but we are supporting a large SP site.

I think with Access 2007 the best approach is to use it to update list and make reports from list. There is no integration to InfoPath forms that I know of. You have to build them on top of your list with SP Designer.

I did find this video in my favorites that says publish access 2007 to SP2010. I haven't whatch recently...
YouTube
If you really need Access (in SP) you have to go to 2010. I waited till Access and SP 2010 were available on a test site and build a relatively simple db with a couple of reports and queries that did funcion correctly (without too much alteration). I did have to key each table before it would 'publish'. The 'publish' wizard will walk you thru needed fixes. I looked for the DB to refresh my memory but someone has rebuilt the test site and dropped it.

Any way good luck. I wish I had some recent experience on the issue to offer. Maybe this will 'bump' your thread and get some more information!

AVG has been know to have false positives. Try uninstalling it, then installing Microsoft Security Essentials. See if it says the same thing.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Office 2010.

All of a sudden, when I tried to paste text I copied from an internet page, I got a message "Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable" .

It worked fine this morning and is working fine now.

I had to paste it into Word Pad to use it.

I made no changes to Word. Any idea what is going on?
Thanks, cb

A:Word could not create the work file. Check the Temp... Word 2010

Did you check the temp environment variable as it suggested?

Open a command prompt.
Type echo %temp%
What is the result?

On my Win 8.1 computer, it's set to: C:\Users\accountname\AppData\Local\Temp

I hope someone has a solution to my problem! I have a VBA macro that will automatically open .DOC files, apply some formatting, save it, and continue to the next .DOC file. The problem is that I need to guarantee that the .DOC file I'm opening is indeed a Word file and not some other propriatary file with a .DOC extension. I would prefer to do this within VBA, but an external program may also work (with an external call to that program?). I'm working with Word 97/Ver8, but there are some Word 6 files that need to be procesed as well. Any suggestions?

I uninstalled a program using the program's uninstaller, which was successful, but it left its file name in the Windows uninstaller list. When I click "uninstall" to clear it off, I get an error message that the "target file does not exist" and the file name will not remove from the list. So how do I clear this file off of the uninstall list when the program no longer exists?

Thanks!
Max

Details:
Windows 7 Professional Edition Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Microsoft Office 2010

My user has spent years building her Auto-Text feature within Word 2003 to the point it is now, but her company just bought her a new Windows 7 Pro machine with Office 2010 installed. She asked that I migrate her Auto-Text data to Word 2010. After researching on google.com I found that this data is stored in a Normal.dot file and this file needs to be migrated to (in Windows 7)
C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office.

Having done this, I now find the Normal.dot file I placed there in this location, as well as a new Normal.dot file that Word 2010 has created, but the two aren't merging. I see the new file has macros enabled... Does anyone have any ideas on how to merge these files into one file useable by Word 2010?

Thanks,
S~

A:Help with migrating a Word 2003 file to Word 2010

Normal.dot is the global template for Microsoft Word and is stored in different locations on the system based on the version of Windows and Word.

You dont want to merge them you want to backup the existing normal.dot file to something like normal.old.
Then replace the file in the correct location, which I cant research for you right now.

The bad thing about doing things like this is that if normal.dot gets corrupted, all the work put in to this is lost!

Because I do teaching for people who have both versions (2007 & 2010) of Word, I have to keep both on my computer. How do I get .doc and .docx to associate with Word 2010?

Because I work mostly in 2010, I want to default to opening with 2010 but I can't do it. When I do try to correct the association (through the Control Panel) it WON'T associate with 2010. I go to the winword.exe in the correct folder for 2010 and click on it but it just stays the same, still associated with winword.exe in the 2007 folder.

A:need word 2007 AND word 2010, how to set file associations

FileTypesManager is pretty good in cases like this one.

Download this free application, run it, look for docx. Hightlight it and press F2. In a new window delete anything in the User Choice field. Close that window and find Open coomand for docx in main Window. Make sure that command-line leads to Office14. Repeat for doc.

I am trying to attach an xml file to a Microsoft Word document.
I would normally attach a file by selecting Insert > Object, then browsing to the file I want to attach. This works in that it attaches the file I want but when I double click the icon that is created, Internet Explorer opens up and says it cannot display the webpage. The xml file I am trying to attach and open is a chat log from Messenger Live.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to why this keeps happening?

By the way, im aware that the xml chat log references an xsl file, I have removed this reference so at the very least when I click the attachment it should open Internet Explorer and display the file unformatted.

Thank you in advance.

Since updating to win 10 anniversary edition I cannot get a preview of Word documents in File Explorer - all other files show a preview. This is on a Sony Vaio all in one PC with Office 2010. The mystery is that I also have a Vaio laptop running the identical operating system and apps and this does have doc previews. I have tried repairing the Word app and have compared all the settings on each computer but nothing brings back doc previews on the all in one - get the message "this file cannot be previewed". I would like to uninstall / reinstall Office but I do not have a disk and cannot find an official download of the 2010 version for which I have the key. Microsoft support were polite but stumped.

Any suggestions welcome

Hi,

I was working on a document that was located in a zip archive. I have 7-zip installed on my computer. I?m running Windows 8. I repeatedly saved the file in Word while I was working on it. However, I?ve since rebooted the computer and my file is missing. All of the ?saves? I?ve made didn?t seem to update the file in the archive. I understand that I should have extracted the file first before working on it; however, I received no prompt from Word 2013 that my saves were not being recorded. Perhaps the file was saved into some sort of temporary folder/file that 7-zip creates/works from.

Are my changes lost permanently? Does there exist a temporary file somewhere with my changes in it?

Thank you. This is a court document and I made substantial modifications to it, and I really need it back.

A:Document Recovery From 7-Zip-Archived Word-File

It may be in the drafts folder. This will, by default vary according to which Word version.
But, across the versions, open the Options in Word and find the save option. In the window which opens, it will list your various save locations for the variety of Word you are using.
Alternatively, if you know the name of the file, how about a search?

I am using windows 7 as the OS.
I have installed MS Office 2010 Beta, and having Adobe Reader 9.
I came know how to convert word documents to pdf files using MS Office 2010.
I had seen an article " how to convert pdf files to word documents?" on a site.
The given procedure is, by clicking insert tab in MS office 2010, and then by clicking Object button, and clicking "create from file" tab and then browse pdf file.
I have followed the procedure given. But it is converting only the first page of the pdf file, but not all the pages.
I am here to know "How to convert the entire pdf file into word document" using MS Office 2010 ( without installing any application).
If any one knows how to do that, I request you to give the procedure.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Ramesh Junju

Success! I ran [email protected] File Recovery (an undelete program) and scanned for the document name. Interestingly, the document name matched the original document name in the archive, and wasn't some random file name like "SHF75J.tmp". I recovered the file to a flash drive. I'm very happy now.

A:converting PDF file to Word Document formant

If its been scanned in as a PDF, then its just a "photo" of the page.

You need to use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software to convert a scanned image to a document. Such software (Textbridge, Iris etc) usually comes with the scanner, but do not expext miricles with it.

Having the PC decide exactly what part of the scanned image is text, what is an image and correctly decode it to the relevant parts is complex and "consumer variety" OCR is usually less than perfect.

If the PDF is in electronic format (prior to being printed and scanned) software exists that will convert it directly to text (I use Solid Converter PDF) but this approach only works where the person creating the PDF has allowed such activities.
