NVIDIA TNT2 Ultra shows as standard VGA

Q: NVIDIA TNT2 Ultra shows as standard VGA

MB ASUS CUSL2-C
OS Dual boot WIN98SE/WIN2K
384MB Ram

OK, here goes. I have a 32MB Nvidia TNT2 Ultra video card. However MOST of the time, the system won't recognize it as anything other than a standard VGA card. Every now and then it'll actually show as the correct card and when that happens it works GREAT (for a while), then all the sudden it's back to standard VGA again.

This happens in 98SE and 2K, I have 2 older Rage cards that I have no trouble with. Unfortunately I DON'T have another machine that I can put this card in right now.

Have all the latest drivers (that I can find) for everything, problem has persisted through a reformat and reload.

Any help at all appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

If your system is not HAVING issues with your other cards, then your TNT2 is the cause.... its an odd problem you have.

A:TNT2 Ultra -- big Black screen

I have heard of some problems with the TNT2 Ultra and some motherboards with the VIA chipset. If your motherboard has this, this could be the case. (I haven't worked with NT in a while) If not, have you tried to boot using VGA only - or some other option like that (I forgot what it was called). Maybe then you can change the drivers for the video card.

Hi guys, back after a few months away from this great site/forum.

I have a question regarding the CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard I was searching all over the web but can't seem to find out if this motherboard will support the new AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU? It says it supports the AMD 64 & 64 FX CPUs, but what about AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU?

If anyone here can help me out, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

A:CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

Most nForce4 based motherboards support such CPUs but not all of them do so out-of-the-box. Make sure to have a motherboard from the latest production batch. If not, it might be handy to have a single-core to flash the BIOS in case it doesn't want to power up with the dual-core one.

I recently bought a TNT2 card. I installed , downloaded the lateset drivers from the nvidia website (41.xx) and ran it on my WinME system.Problem is when the computer starts ,before the BIOS and memory check, the amount of memory shown is 32 MB.While in Windows the driver shows only 16 MB (display properties-advanced-nvidia TNT2 Model 64). I had purchasd the card with 32 MB. So does this mean that in Windows only 16 MB is used ? How can I correct this error ?

Thanks

A:Nvidia TNT2 M64

some of your ram might be bad.windows should pickup the whole thing or not at all.I have a tnt pro 2 with 32mb.
try removing it puting your old card back in restart then shut down and put the tnt back in and make sure it is in evenly and firmly pushed in if it's not you could have problems.and then restart again.reinstall the drivers.
All internal work must be done with power off.
if you changed from pci to agp make sure that enabled is set in the BIO for AGP. It should work but it is a little finiky if it wasn't pushed in just right.so leave the case off untill you get it right because you might have to remove it a few times untill you get it right. good luck

I have an Elitegroup motherboard with SiS620 chipset, and I've installed a pci nvidia tnt2 m64, but now lockups occur in 3d games, and sometimes in the Windows GUI.

Sometimes alt+ctrl+del will get me out of it in the GUI; it gives me a blue "system busy" screen and then I can click cancel on the close program dialog and everything's fine.

Sometimes it stays locked when I hit alt+ctrl+del, and it always stays locked in games.

I'm running the detonator 5.13 beta drivers, which are said to tbe the most stable. I have tried the latest drivers (12.xx), but with those the problem is worse because once it locks alt+ctrl+del never works, and the lockups are more frequent.

I've tried adjusting latency timing, looked for conflicts and tested power settings and everything seems fine... what could be the problem?

Thanks.

Wondering how you disabled your sis chip, this from the sis web site about adding pci card to a 620 system

If you add on a PCI VGA card on a AGP/Super AGP VGA based board (like 5600+6326, 530, 620), you
will need to set up the display priority. Every board maker has her way to do the setting. Some of them will implement
it in the BIOS, in the item "Integrated Peripheral","Initial Display First", you can choose "PCI slot". However some other
makers do the setting by jumpers, you need to refer to your manual or contact the makers for further help. The best
solution is to ask help from your board maker. However if you don't know who the maker is, you can track from the
store where you buy the computer, or ask any local pc dealer if they know there's a way to help you. After you
finish the hardware part, you can remove the our vga driver from your system. Please go to "Control
Panel","Add/Delete programs" to remove the driver. Please don't care about the exclamation mark that appears in the
Device Manager, if you have already install your second card successfully. It won't influence your VGA display.

Hey, guys. What NVIDIA driver (Detonator or Forceware) should I use under Windows ME with a Riva TNT2 Pro to get the best quality and performance? I am asking this because I noticed that (under RPGMaker 2000), using the original Windows drivers showed no flicker. But, when I used the 45.23 drivers, sure they were fast in Direct3D applications. But in RPGMaker, flicker starts to appear. It's not so bad that it is unplayable, it's just really annoying. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I don't recommend using that card in that machine. Not only is there a risk of it damaging the slot, it's also an incredibly old and slow card, if your new motherboard has onboard video it is likely faster than that TNT2-M64.

i can't even bet a boot with a nvidia riva tnt2 model 64 w/8mb ram on a MainBoard TXpro-II or a knock-off replica thereof. funny thing is: the card workes fine in another comp with a diff mobo (this one, a spearfish with a xeon 450 pentium 2) and to add to insult, a couple of old junk video cards WILL work in the TX-proII. i also have an Aopen socket 7 mobo i could use for this system but the exact same story applies: the junk video cards work in it but not the tnt2 card which i just bought. by junk video cards i mean they have bad memory chips on them and they have garbage mixed in the on-screen display which makes them kind of useless except for getting a system to boot at all. if it matters they both have S3virge chips on them. running win98 fully updated with ie 5.5 also fully updated. have the latest nvidia drivers avail but of course haven't gotten that far. i did, however remove all the old drivers from device manager and found no nVidia references in the registry to delete at all. any clues would be highly appreciated. thanx, JL

I continue to get intermittent screen messages that I have a problem with my Nvidia graphics driver, occasionally causing shut downs and generating error messages to microsoft.
Although possibly completely unrelated, I also find that my computer shuts down on its own if left alone about 30 minutes, and when turned back on, goes through an odd reboot on its own whcih returns me to where I was before leaving.
The microsoft proposed solution is to download a new driver off the Nvidia website though they also say Nvidia has no solution to the problem. When I go to the Nvidia website, I can find a downloadable driver for XP. (www.nvidia.com/object/driver_installation_hints.html) , though the instructions request me to:
1- disable download accelerator utilities ( How do I find if I have any? I recall loading one at one time, but can't remember if it was on this computer, or find anything suggesting this on my start menu)
2-turn off my virus protection- can do
3- remove Nvidia display drivers from the control panel using the add/remove function.- I can't find any. However, I do find reference to them in my systems folder listing a TNT2 nmodel V 5.6.7.3 dated 4/7/04. It seems odd that I have a listing in the latter, but not in the former. It also seems odd that they would request the removal of the old one first. Will my monitor work if its removed??
Thanks for any assistance

I recently reformatted my computer's harddrive, and I've been working on getting everything back to it's normal working order. I'm having issues with my video card. It should be installed correctly, I haven't taken it out at all, and it worked a while before the reformat. I think I have the correct driver installed (This one).

But when I plug the monitor into the video card's plug, the monitor won't show anything, it's just blank with the little light, normally green, glowing orange. When I go to the System Information, the only video card that shows up is the one on the motherboard.

Am I using the correct driver? Any other possible solutions?

A:nVidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 issues

G'day Redalert95, I gather you have onboard video and that is working but your card is not. It is not a good idea to plug video leads if the machine is running, it could quite easily kill something.
It is possible that you may need to disable the onboard video in BIOS to allow the daughter card to operate.
This makes it odd that it may have changed from previous settings which were apparently working OK.
If this might be correct it may be pertinent to replace the battery at this time before going any further.
Your board manual BIOS settings should help determine what is happening. In some machines if you plug in a video card the onboard is automatically disabled, but your note does not infer this to be the case, therefore it seems you are going to have to carefully follow the BIOS set instructons in the manual. You likely have an onboard enable somewhere. The LED showing orange instead of green simply indicates no information is being received by the monitor.
You should not need any driver to be loaded to give your card operation for the monitor to operate in a basic mode.
The proper driver will only give the thing all the colours and abilities you are used to normally seeing.
Be extremely careful and ensure the power lead is removed anytime you plug items like cards, and ensure your follow antistatic rules.
Cheers, qldit.

Hi - I'm new to the boards and have a question I hope someone can help me with. I have an old Dell Dimension 4100 that is running windows me and it has an nvidia tnt 2 video card. My son recently purchased Call of Duty and it doesn't seem to work on this system. I keep getting an error message that I need to upgrade my video card. I think I need a pci express card, but I'm not sure so my question is how do I figure that out and can anyone recommend a video card that is not too expensive? The system is 6 years old and I really don't feel like investing a ton of cash into it. It does have 256 mb of ram, that I know as well as an pentium 3 processor, 20 gig hard drive (small I know in this day and age) and is running @ 933mhz. Thanks in advance for the help.

A:Upgrading an nvidia tnt2 card on an old dell 4100

You need an AGP video card.Given the age of your computer you probably only have an AGP 4x slot so I would recomend an ATI Radeon 9200 or 9250. anything more powerfull than that wouldn't give you any significant improvement due to the speed of your processer and slot. upgradeing your ram to 512 mb wouldnt be a bad idea either.
Video card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820136009

regardless of what video card and ram you get that game will probably only run on medium settings due to your processer.

I have tried the latest Nvidia Detonator xp drivers (2.1.83) as well as the default drivers that came with xp. There is still no difference.

I could use direct draw and direct 3d with the same hardware setup on my previous system, Win ME. All the directx games ran fine there.

Please let me know what the problem is as this is the only glitch in an otherwise impeccable system..

Thanks,
Apurva Mehta

Video Lock-ups / CD-ROM Locking problem

CPU Information

Asus A7A266Mother board with audio & AMD 1.2 GHz Processor combo,
256MB/133 Ram chip,
NVIDIA Riva TNT 2 32MB M64 APG video card.
Fujitsu 30 gig HD Re-formatted with a clean copy of Win 98se installed
50X speed CD-ROM
HP 9100i CDR
Two Kingston NICs
Modem supplied with Mother board
Windows 98se.

I have experienced the following problems:

1. During boot-up, the windows logo flickers one time every time its booting.
2. The CD-ROM will some times hang and lock the computer.
3. While running NASCAR 4, & Need For Speed. The video blinks out. Its like the screen freezes and then runs ok. This happens every 3 to 4 seconds. This makes the game unplayable.
4. I have seen when I was using the CD-ROM the CPU locks up and if I open the CD-ROM door the CPU will run again. Close the door and the CPU lock up again.
5. Every time the CPU lock up due to the CD-ROM (Ctrl/Alt/Delete) takes forever and it seems to crash the system so bad I have to hit the reset.
6. I have seen Windows Explorer screen flicker every once and a while.

Trouble shooting steps taken:

1. Installed latest driver for the TNTm64 video card ( Still having the same problem)
2. Installed a Voodoo 3-3000 video card and drivers. ( Still having the same problem)
3. Minimized all the graphic settings in NSACAR 4. Un-checked all items possible to achieve smooth video. ( Still having the same problem)
4. Removed both network cards and modem. ( Still havi... Read more

What are your irq assignments, any conflicts, what's sharing with what.

Device manager, any conflicts, ms-dos compatabilty mode drivers note, etc.

Anything running in the background to cause a conflict.

Directx diagnostic, any problems reported.

Is your cdrom on the same ide channel as the hard drive, if so change it.

One thing you might try but it's a strech, download sisoft sandra and run the benchmark program, once in awhile it will show a problem and how to fix it. I haven't used it for a long time but it use to have a diagnostic that would check the systme bus, agp bus, etc.

you should be able to get it at http://www.tweakfiles.com

Will keep my eyes open if I run across anything on some of the gaming sites.

I have a old pc with a 245W PSU and I m thinking about upgrading the card.

A:Anybody know the power requirements of a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 16mb graphics card?

Couldn't find a quick answer to this but if the "old" machine runs okay as it is then it should have no problem with the TNT2 card. They are a pretty old card and were designed for the machines of the day which (by today's standards) were pretty slow and didn't need a huge amount of power to get them going. I assume the "old" machine has a AGP slot to fit the card into?

Hi guys. Just a question. An easy one I think. Right now, I'm using an nVIDIA TNT2 Model 64 16MB video card. This video card works pretty well, but could be better. Especially with games like Quake III Team Arena. I am thinking off upgrading to a nVIDIA TNT2 Model 64 32MB video card. Since the only difference between the two cards is that one has more memory. Can I use the video card driver already installed if I switch from the 16MB card to the 32 MB card?

Computer is a Systemax Athlon 1Gh W/Windows ME. X4 APG slot.

Thanks

A:TNT2, TNT2 Riva and GeForce 2 MX, which is better?

As far as I know, there aren't any difference between TNT2 and Riva TNT2, but there are RIVA TNT2, RIVA TNT2 Vanta, and RIVA TNT2 M64.

Listed from the least to the most powerful:

RIVA TNT2 Vanta
RIVA TNT2 M64 (16mb card)
RIVA TNT2
GeForce2 MX

For more information about the differences, take a look here...

I have a nvidia riva tnt2 model 64/model 64 pro pci bus videocard.
The other day I bought the follow up of MOH (sorry forgot the name because returning it to the store)but ofcource you already see the problem rightaway:error log file of the game told me the card was missing out on some functions. Can this card be updated so "heavy duty games won't be a problem in the future?(il2/fb-wolvenstein-cfs2 run good though!)

Thanx for listening!

A:nvidia riva tnt2 model 64/model 64 pro update wanted

Well...you can get the latest drivers for the card, but it won't help that much, because it's a TNT2...and PCI....

If you wanted to play newer games, you'd have to get a new video card....but if you're running a PCI video card right now, then it may not be worth it...check if you have an AGP slot, is should be above the PCI slots on the motherboard, and slightly offset from them...if you have an AGP slot, then that's good, because you could get a good video card...but if you don't, you'll probably be better off getting a whole new system rather than just upgrading the video.

I have the Nvidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 / Model 64 pro video card and i want to install a game but the video card has to be in 256 color mode and in Windows i can only go to 32 bit what can i do? Any comments or posts would be great! Thank YOU!

A:Nvidia Riva TNT2 Model 64 / Model 64 pro Problem?

Just to be clear, 32-bit is actually 16,777,216 colors, so its much more then 256 which is just 256 colors. So for 256 you need to lower the color depth not increase it.

Hey so I have an Nvidia Geforce 210, and the box says its 512 MB, but both the info displays on Windows XP and 7 say It has 1 GB. I'll add a screenshot. Any clues? Thanks guys!

A:NVIDIA Geforce 210 shows 1GB when box shows 512

Hello!

Retailers do make mistakes. It is possible you have a different card than you think. Download Speccy and find your video card. Is it the same as displayed on the box?

As an admin using win 7 pro 64 bit, I set up a Standard Account. After the account was successfully set up, the new standard account screen opened and displays what almost looks like a win xp display. Not at all what my win t admin screen looks like. An example; the start button actually is labled Start, and dos not have the Win 7 logo. Clicking on the START button show a generic screen pop up listing the usual Documents, Computer, Control Panel etc, but the display of that pop up is kind of basic, and not at all of the visual sort found on win 7 . Every thing display wise, looks like it is operatng on a win xp screen. Any thoughts? Anybody??

Also, I thought when I set up a Standard Account for myself, all my programs on the Admin account would be transferred too. I even had to set up my email accounts in MS Outlook all over again.
