Preferred Solution: windows 7 ultimate 64bit sony vaio camera

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all, I have a brand new Sony S Series 15 SVS151290X that I recently bought and it came with Windows 8. I removed the internal HDD and replaced it with a fresh Samsung Series 830 256Gb SSD. The SSD is recognized as it show in BIOS. I'd like to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit onto it. I have an ISO image of the Windows installation DVD disk and created a bootable USB installation flash drive. I followed the instructions to modify it so that the UEFI Bios will recognize it. I alsotried installing it directly from the Windows installation DVD (the laptop also has a DVD drive). In both cases I'm unable to install Windows, a message shows NO Operating system found. I tried changing the UEFI boot option in BIOS to "LEGACY" and the installation will proceed but it will install Windows 7 32 bit and not 64 bit. I spent hours making all kinds of mods to the USB stick without success. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

A:Need help/Unable to install Windows 7 64bit in Sony Vaio Laptop

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals, if you want to install in UEFI mode follow Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7.

If not, boot into BIOS setup to enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)

Next click Install Now to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

Hello relaxed and welcome to Seven Forums.

The usual location to get drivers for a Sony Vaio is at the Sony website. But nothing pertaining to the webcam was listed under the Download tab. All I can suggest is to use their Contact Us link at the lower left of the webpage and ask customer support where they've hidden the webcam driver.

I am posting this after reaching the point of frustration and having spent 2 days trying to find a solution.

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ140E Laptop and after doing a fresh XP Pro SP3 install can't get the camera to work. The chipset is Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset. I have tried

1) Installing SODOTH-12946300-US.EXE (Version :, Last Modified :05/14/2007) - Problem remained
2) Downloading and installing the Camera Driver from
but the problem remains

When I click on the USB Video Device in Windows Explorer I get the message
Video Preview Failure
Creation of the video preview failed.
Please check the device connection and make sure that the device is not being used by another application or user.

In Windows Explorer, when I right click on the USB Video Device and from the resulting dialog box, I click on Diagnostics, I get the following message
Your imaging device successfully completed the diagnostic test.

Although this Microsoft hotfix is for Vista I would imagine it would be OK for Windows 7 as well.

It can't hurt to give it a try, just create a system restore point first, in case you need to undo the fix.

You may find some support here too:

And don't forget, as it is a new computer, it'll be under warranty, so you could also ask Sony to sort it out for you.

Hi, I have a SZ340P, installed on W7 pro 64 bit, and I cannot install the drivers of the webcam.
The model is not supported on Sony website for Windows7, but many folks around managed to install it anyway. I did install it, and managed to install the appropriate drivers for anything but this webcam. Somebody was successfull installing driver from Ricoh (but for different models..VCC3-8).

The device ids are:

I tried all and every driver available online, but none of them work. I also tried to extract driver from installer that only worked on Vista or XP compatibility mode but no luck.
I replied to an old post, but im reopening a new one as well.

Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

A:Sony Vaio SZ340P VCC2 camera driver

Have you tried this already?

Uninstall any and all webcam drivers and and then scan for new hardware changes.

Before doing this be sure that the following is set:
Start > type: "hardware" > choose: "Change Device Installation Settings"
Select: "No, let me choose..." > and then either:
"Always install the best driver software..." or
"Install driver software from Windows Update if it is not found on my computer".
Probably the first one is best for this. Then set it back to where you had it afterward.

I just recently made a clean install of Win Ultimate 64 bit on this laptop which had Win Vista Business before and now the web cam does not work at all.
I tried downloading and installing the web cam driver straight from the Sony support site in compatibility mode and nothing happens. I tried installing the drivers for the web cam fro both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of 7 and still nothing. It just keeps saying that I can't connect to the web cam.

The driver for the web cam is called Arch soft Web companion, and I even tried to install CyberLink You Cam and still nothing. Skype and other messenger programs can't use it either.

The sound card seems fine and produces a welcome sound at the Vaio logo appearance on booting. Afterwards there is no sound on playback. I just feel tired looking for those drivers any further.

1) Audio driver
2) Camera driver

The model number is: Sony Vaio PCG-8V2M

Please revert in case u land up at something worth a shot.

A:Can't find drivers for Audio and Camera for Sony Vaio PCG-8V2M

The Sony site only lists Windows XP drivers for this model and the XP drivers are incompatible. Thus, if windows has installed the generic HD Audio Codec, that is the best you will be able to acquire.

I have no idea about a camera driver.

I've tried reinstalling windows i've changed from home premium to windows 7 ultimate, i've tried reinstalling drivers, i've tried redownloading drivers and downloading other drivers but none of my methods wouldnt work! So please help me out i would really appreciate it !

A:Sony Vaio Camera Resets Itself Inverted Color Picture

Hello TheAlboPower and welcome to Seven Forums.

According to the US Sony eSupport website, this is the only driver thay have for the VPCEH190X webcam. Is this the one you installed?

Sony eSupport - VPCEH190X - Drivers & Software

Do you remember what you were doing when the webcam began resetting itself and the color got all crazy? How long ago did the problem first appear? Do you have a restore point going back to a date/time prior to when the problem began?

System Restore

If system restore doesn't help you can also undo the system restore operation.

System Restore - Undo - Vista Forums (Also applies to Windows 7)

The only other suggestion I have is to contact Sony directly (links on right side of driver page) and see if they have a work around. Perhaps others have reported similar problems.

Hi guys, looking for a little assistance.

I have just installed Windows 7 64bit version.

My computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-NS11J from the EU.

Intel Core 2 Duo - T5800 2GHz
4GB Ram
Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Graphics Card

I have 2 drivers which I cant find drivers for - 1 of which I believe is a Texas Instruments SD Card Controller.

The details I can glean from Device Manager are as follows:

Base System Device
Location: PCI Bus 5, device 3, function 2
Physical Device Object Name: \Device\NTPNP_PCI0023

Unknown Device
Location: on Intel ICH9M LPC Interface controller - 2919
Physical Device Object Name: \Device\0000005b
The other issues I am having is with getting the FN and Mute button's to work, as well as the Power Control for selecting battery options (ie charged less/more to protect the battery) unless how to do this has simply moved in Win7.

I have looked at the EU Sony Driver Support page for my model but it doesnt contain any drivers to solve these problems.

Thanks in advance and I am happy to supply any additional information/screenshots that would be helpful.

I just bought a 9mth old Sony Vaio Laptop with 64bit vista installed. It would not connect to my home wireless router - Dlink brand. My Dell and HP laptops connect easily to my wireless router - by entering a password. I followed the suggestion to update Vista registry's ArpRetryCount but it did not work (maybe that suggestion is for 32 bit Vista). Any suggestions?

ps. Here is the suggestion for 32 bit:
registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters)he has me look for an entry that I?m suppose to edit but seems to be missing. Confused, I?m on hold again while the rep goes to consult another rep yet again. Finally, assured he has the answer, he has me create a new ?DWORD (32-bit) Value? entry line ?ArpRetryCount? with the values set all to zero (the default value).

False alarm. As it turns out, there was nothing wrong with Vista 64 bit. Once I got the password right, I was able to connect to DLINK wireless home router with no problems.

I have spent weeks trying to fix this and am ready to admit I need help that isn't anywhere online.

First of all let me make a contribution: Do not do a clean install of Windows 7 on a VAIO with built in recovery discs because they will no longer be detected and you will not ever be able to use them again.

Here's a list of my most pressing problems:

1. I use to be able to connect my laptop to a display with VGA just with the Fn key. Now I can't and there is a new Intel TV Wizard and Windows Media Center to deal with. The Wizard does not even list VGA in it's connections and the WMC does but does not detect it is connected. The funny thing is a I can connect a terrible S Video cable with the Wizard no problem.

2. CD/DVD drive is not working. I have read everything online and had remote assistance to no avail. The funny thing is I had it briefly working with a Vista drive installed in compatibility mode but then Windows blocked the driver. The drive will open from my computer and will run but the DVD will not be detected. 7 does not appear to like to detect things. I also noticed in the Device Manage the Mass Storage Controller is missing and will not update.

3. The built in recovery discs are not detected. Would have been nice to restore it to OE even with Vista at this point.

4. The built in web cam is not working.

Thanks for having this forum and I would appreciate help from anyone who can relate.

Then click on Notebook Control and Utilities: Here are your sony utilities to control function keys etc, I am not sure if you need all three applications maybe a forum member with a sony laptop could advise!

Hi guys

I just got a final version (The one that arrives on october 22nd) dvd with Windows 7 Ultimate, with both 32bit and 64bit..

But my problem is that everytime i choose 64bit installation in the installation menu, and then choose upgrade, it compatibility checks my pc, and then it says that i cannot install, because its not the same architecture, even tho my pc is able to upgrade to the specified version!

Well, i should be able to upgrade from vista ultimate x64 to 7 ultimate x64, without doing a clean install?

If anyone knows how to solve this, please reply

Oh yeah, my OS i windows ultimate 64bit...

A:Cannot upgrade windows vista ultimate 64bit to windows 7 ultimate 64bit!!!

Run setup while in Windows and you can.

If you run Setup from within Windows:

You can upgrade Windows Vista or Windows 7 Build 7077 or later.
You cannot run x64 Setup on a system running an x86 build of Windows, or vice-versa.
You cannot upgrade Windows XP or any pre-7077 build of Windows 7 (unless you use the workaround I describe later in this post).
You can install Windows 7 on the same volume as an existing Windows version. (I describe the best way to accomplish this in #4.)
You cannot make any changes to the layout of a disk; you must use existing partitions, and Setup will not recognize unallocated space.
If you boot from the Windows 7 DVD:

You cannot upgrade an existing Windows version. Your only option is a custom install.
You can delete existing partitions, create new partitions, extend an existing disk partition to unallocated space, or designate a block of unallocated space as the setup location.
You can install Windows 7 on the same volume as an existing Windows version.

Hi Folks, This is my first post. so go easy on me;-)

I switched on my PC after 1 year of no use(apple imac distracted me for a while).
The message "operating system not found" appears when it boots up. I put in the Sony Recovery disk, bit it could not read it. As Sony didn't provide a spare copy of XP, how do I get back up and running? Do I have to change the motherboard battery? any advice much appreciated.

I Hope you Christmas is Merry and peaceful.

A:Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-RX305 Windows XP now missing, no disks supplied by Sony

Call Sony Tech Support if you are the registered owner or buyer. They will provide a disk set for a small fee ($27) for six years after purchase, or until they run out.
Your only other choice is to buy the disk online at some place like ebay, or buy Windows Home (still available for $82) or Windows XP Professional for $135.
The motherboard battery should not be bad, but if it is, you can get a replacement (CR2032) at Wal-Mart ofr $3.67 or on eBay for $2.58.
The recovery disk may be good, and it is your optical drive that has gone bad.

So, this is what happened:

1. A pendrive infected with virus was inserted (unknowingly)

2. Malwarebytes scanned and removed them. After removing asked me to restart, which I did.

3. I remember some system32 folder files were shown as infected but I dont remember exactly the names.

4. After reboot, I got vaio splash screen and then just a black screen. Nothing else!

What I have tried so far:

1. Tried the "unplug battery and power plug, then press the power button for a minute or two and then connect just the power plug (not battery) and boot" thing, didnt work.

2. Tried the assist button. But the first option named "start troubleshooting (recovery)" option restarts the laptop and again after the vaio splash screen, I get the black screen.

PS: The only way to get to see the 'boot into safe mode, network mode, etc" options is through that assist button. It doesnt work! I can however access the bios options.

3. Tried booting ubuntu live from a flash drive and it worked successfully. However, when I tried to open the windows paritions within the ubuntu live usb drive, it said they were "unclean drives"and failed to mount them.

4. So, I tried the Bitdefender rescue cd and scanned the whole system. It found 1 infected file (although it was more like a potentially unwanted program or something, not a malware or serious virus.)

5. Also, tried a windows 8 installation disk but it too would not boot. Tried a windows install... Read more

After some problems with Windows Update in Windows 8 and not being able to reset Windows- I stumbled upon a way to update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Thinking this was the solution, I did my best to create a backup in Windows recovery, which got cancelled after 97% but still created some kind of backup on my external. Just to be sure, I copied the whole C:\ to the external as well as drivers back up from a third party and a recovery image.
And then I updated.
Oh, my computer is a Sony Vaio Pro 13 SVP1321M2E.
Not reading the instructions clearly, I forgot about the whole Vaio Care Update procedure you're suppose to go through before updating to Windows 8.1. So now- it's not working.

The computer itself is running, I'd like to say smoothly, except from the noisy fan.
Vaio Care however- is not and now I don't know how to get the whole VAIO package back. I've been through every forum here and on Windows. Taking a lot of instructions and following advice on how to re-install Windows. I've downloaded and installed every update on SONY's website- twice!

How do I get my VAIO care Update back and running? I can't even do a refresh, apparently I'm missing some files....
I don't know what's wrong and I don't know how to fix it. I just want my computer reliable and running smoothly. Please help.

A:I got a SONY VAIO Windows 7 and I need help.

Hi Wii_zil,

And welcome to the wonderful world of Windows 7! ;)

All programs listed under "Programs and features" are OK to uninstall, as they are not a part of the Windows operating system. Just leave any Antivirus/Firewalls be, as they're there for a reason.

But all the programs you listed above, are definately OK to remove.

As for desktop gadgets and such, it's all about personal preference. Don't be afraid to play around with the settings, check out the different themes and such. Just right-click the Desktop and choose Personalize, as you will find most of the settings there.

Otherwise, let us know what specifically you want to configure.
Generally though, a new installed system should be all fine and dandy.

The only thing I remove when I buy a new preinstalled laptop, is all the trial applications, for instance the ones you've listed in your post. Other than that, you should be just fine.

I have a 5 year old Sony Vaio laptop with Windows XP that had been working just fine (slow, but fine) until about 4 months ago. One day I turned it on and a message appeared saying it had experienced a serious error. I could restart to the most recent working system or just restart (something like that). I tried both options and it wouldn't turn on at all. I gave up until about a month ago when I decided to try again. I pushed the power button and it started up and ran just like normal. It has been working just fine until this past week when I am getting those messages again and I also get messages saying it has recovered from a serious error and asking if I want to send a report of it.
I also get messages saying I am running very low on memory (I only have about 5GB free).
I have been told it sounds like either my operating system or hard drive is failing. I have also been told I just need to do a system restore because I have so little memory. Personally, I have no clue! I don't know much about this area of computers I just really want it to work again!
Thank you.

My sister needs it for school that's why now I'm trying to fix it. I wasn't able to make a backup CD because it doesn't have a DVD-ROM.

I'm trying to make a clean install of the OS. I downloaded this version: Windows 7 Home Premium x86 (32-bit) English - http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent..../X15-65732.iso

And then I used a program to create a bootable USB installer. But when I tried installing it, this error appears: imgbox - fast, simple image host

It's telling me that a driver is missing but I don't know which driver is missing.

My laptop is this one: Sony Vaio VPC-YB1S1E/S 11,6" LED - Fnac.com - Ordinateur ultra-portable

It's a bit old and I can't see it on Sony's site anymore. My dad bought it from Greece.

Hopefully you can help me because I'll be leaving in 2 days and I need to fix this before I leave. Thanks!

I hope that any one can help me because Sony won't. I will be extremely grateful for any help. I purchased this computer 3 weeks ago and have struggled with this issue ever since. I received the computer with Windows Vista. I did the research before hand to be certain that I would be able to install Windows XP without losing any major funcitionality. According to Sony Support I would only lose camera funcitonality and possibly fingerprint scan. I can live with this. I have formatted this harddrive and installed Windows XP 4 times. I have downloaded all of the drivers and updates from the Sony site in the exact order they specified and still no luck. I have been able to get everything to function except for the power management. The fn keys work with all options except the brightness of the screen, which runs on the brightest setting all of the time. (works fine with vista) I am unable to change the screen brightness with the fn key and I am also unable to change it in the windows power management utility. It is bright all the time, while plugged in and on battery power. I love the notebook and I really want to solve this problem but the, sorry for your inconvenience, answers I have received from Sony, have me at my witts end. Their tech support are not tech's, they are $8 an hour people typing answers they find on a card. I am so frustrated and I need windows xp. I hope that someone has a possible solution, or I will be forced to try and sell this great laptop and b... Read more

Hi everyone,

I have a client (a hotel) who is redesigning their front desk / lobby area to be sleeker and nicer looking for the guests. One of the revamped design aspects will be the computers that are stationed at the front desk. The hotel executives saw and liked the Sony Vaio LS series and wanted to use those, so we ordered one for testing.

When it got here, we found that the computer came with Windows Vista Business preinstalled, which would have been ideal, except for the fact that the hotel runs a very specific and critical piece of software which, we have heard straight from the developers, absolutely positively will not run on Vista, no way, no how.

So we still like the idea of using the Vaios for the front desk, but they will need to be reformatted with Windows XP instead of Vista. I already attempted this a short while ago, but after a fresh install of Windows XP, absolutely nothing worked right out of the box (there was no sound, no Ethernet, no wireless, incorrect video drivers, etc.). I went to another computer and downloaded all of Sony's drivers from their web site, but as soon as I tried to install them, it told me the drivers were only compatible with Windows Vista.

This leaves me in a rather dire situation. The Vaio cannot be returned, so we really have to get it working somehow. Is there any way to get just the base drivers working on Windows XP? The machine has a bunch of extra stuff we don't need (like the camera and TV tuner for instance) -... Read more

I recently upgraded/clean install windows 7 over vista sp2 on my sony vaio VGN-CR240E. Windows 7 works great with one exception, now my DVD-RW drive wont show up at all, and when I go into device manager it shows me the drive with a driver error. However, if I load the windows disk in the cd tray, it will load the windows generic driver but only when I do that. is the a way to get a driver that will work?

things tried already:

-checked sony esupport website for drivers...downloaded the two provided drivers..ran them via compatiblity mode-outcome -nothing

-went on the pioneer website for drivers-nothing

-tried finding the driver file on the windows install disk-nothing

I have a sony vaio sve14a35cxh that I'm trying to install back to windows 8 as it was originally pre-installed with.

I have the boot mode set to legacy

now when it asks where I want to install windows, theres a message saying

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

There is no enable/disable disk controller in my BIOS menu at all. I tried to convert the entire drive to GPT and that didn't work.

I have no IDEA what I'm doing. Do I convert my entire drive to MBR or GPT and after installing the OS, do I use UEFI instead of LEGACY?

I am installing windows 8 on a USB drive.

A:Sony Vaio windows 8 install help

First thing i'd do is to check for BIOS updates or reseting it.
If the problem assists go to System\Administration\Disk Utility (Availble in windows 7 only) then go to the buttom and click "edit partition" then click "BOOTABLE" and it should be fixed.
Hope that helps.

I bought a sony vaio vista with a free upgrade kit to windows 7. I upgraded to windows 7 and everything works fine. My question is i like to make a clean install of windows 7, tried to boot from windows 7 dvd but won't boot. What i'am doing worng?

A:Sony Vaio Upgrading kit to Windows 7

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Go to BIOS and set your CD/DVD to boot first.

Or you can try F2 when you restart and the first screen comes up, it should list the F-key to use on that screen somewhere for the boot menu, Sony should be F2.

Hi ,

I have a Sony Vaio S Series VPCSA35GG laptop that was working fine until it shutdown itself and since then it is unable to boot. It just displays a blinking cursor and does not boot or does not display any error messages.

I have also tried vaio care rescue option to copy my data and it also fails with mshta.exe error.

I have tried resetting BIOS to default values but did not help. I also don't have windows 7 disks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Sony Vaio Windows 7 does not boot

Is the hard drive detected by the BIOS or the "vaio care rescue option"?

If so run the diagnostics on it, if the BIOS includes any.

I have a Sony vaio pcg-k37, and windows will not boot. As soon as I turn the computer on it goes straight to a black screen and it says NTLDR is missing, ctrl alt del to restart. and when I do it goes right back to that black screen. Does anyone have any ideas, besides taking it to a repair shop?

UPDATE: I don't have any cds for this laptop.

A:Need help with booting Up windows on my SONY VAIO

I'm wondering about your statement 'goes straight to a black screen'. No POST? Is it possible that it no longer recognizes your hard drive? (Possibly drive has failed, possibly cables came loose, possibly BIOS got changed)

If not, try booting from your Windows CD & copy NTLDR back to the hard drive (probably root of C: drive).
