I am not sure if the problem is hardware or software. Also, i was wondering if their is a bios command to check my RAM.

Preferred Solution: [SOLVED] Pleas help - Blue screen

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: [SOLVED] Pleas help - Blue screen

The error message is due to hardware deffective it might be with memory, motherboard or CPU processor overheating due to overclocking. But to confirm where the problem.

First uninstall the audio driver and download the upgrade version of it. (If you had installed the upgraded audio driver than suggest you to use the "Roll back" options to use the pervious driver installed.)

2. Go to BIOS settings and run a memory diagnostic tool to find out is there any problem with your memory RAM.

3. Check the tempertaure of the CPU from BIOS Settings or download Hardware Monitor http://www.cpuid.com/download/hwmoni...onitor_116.zip
(HWMonitor is a hardware monitoring program that reads PC systems main health sensors : 1. voltages, 2. temperatures, 3. fans speed. )
Save the log file and post it.

Its a neighbor of mine I help them take care of their computer all the time.

The problem is the screen freezing randomly, it might be in 3 min might be 5 or 10 or 25, it does it after it has been turned off for awhile or all night or when you have been on it for awhile or quite awhile. Point being its not heating up cause it does it when it has been off for hours them 3 or 4 min after it is turned on or sometime it might be 2 hours after you turn it on. I had a thread a couple of weeks ago about this same computer I came to the conclusion that it was the Powersupply, so I put in a brand new 400W powersupply and it ran great (no freeze ups for a few days then all of a sudden it started in again).

The mouse freezes so they can't do anything but shut it down at the tower so I gave them another usb mouse tonight and told them when it freezes to unplug there mouse and put the new usb mouse in and see it it works right away then it would be the mouse. I have great doubts about it being that but I am at witts end. I consider myself pretty good at fixing computers hardware and software problems but I am lost. I have no idea. I looked in the divice manager everything is ok, checked the events and nothing happening there. I know the computer is clean of viruses or spyware cause I keep it clean for them monthly.

A:Solved: Windows XP SP2- Screen freezing-no pattern- but lots- Can someone help? Pleas

The first thing that comes to mind with older machines is overheating. They can accumulate a lot of dust (even in the cleanest places) and fans can get bogged down. Check all your air intakes and remove dust from the interior. Make sure that all fans are moving (including the one on the graphics card, if present).

While inside, check all your connectiuons and make sure the graphics card is firmly in its slot.

If that doesn't help, try a memory test:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista and can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

Hi, thanks for checking my question. I haven't found an answer to my particular situation:

Dell xps m1430 laptop w/vista (32).

It all started with a blue screen w/scrolling text after the fated restart. The blue screen text said "if this is the first time you've seen this message..." and then comp restarted, again showing the blue screen, then restarted into windows repair mode, after repair mode tried to fix the problem comp restarted, then the screen went black / blank right after the little windows loading animation (where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there's a small windows logo).
It all happened fast, so there may have been steps I forgot, but that's the jist of it.

Now screen always goes black / blank during startup after the windows loading animation, so I can't start windows in normal mode.
I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button, so I'm not imploding with fear... ok I am.

Possible causes:
1. This occured right after installing 11 vista updates (that restart was when I saw the blue screen)

2. Also occured the restart after running a patch called "Vista TCP/IP and UAC AutoPatch 6.0" I downloaded it from softpedia, the developer was listed as defcon, and their website listed was securevista.net, but the site is down(I found this out after the problem occured). The patch had lots of positive reviews, and lots of people on other sites also suggest using it to re... Read more

i'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.

symptoms just before issue - was not able to run use some system features - utility to turn off the display, utility to bring up battery info - everything was working fine before this

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen

boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse

test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

What exactly is the full error message you receive?

I'm working on an emachines T1120 with 256mb of RAM. The problem is that no matter what I do I can't get it to boot all the way into Windows. On startup, I automatically get the Safe Mode screen. No matter which option I choose, it does the same thing: I get the initial Windows screen, then a blue screen appears with the following messsage:

Check with your hardware vendors for any BIOS update. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components restart your computer. press F8to select advanced start up options, then select safe mode.

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x80576DCF, 0xA95E52A0, 0x00000000)

Begin dumping of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete.

I don't have the Windows disk that came with this computer, but I have one from another computer running the same version of Windows. I'm not sure how to use the recovery option - every time I've tried I just get a c:\ prompt. Not sure what to do at that point.

Any thoughts?

Hello everyone. I'm new the the forums here (as in just registered), but I need some help please. Basically after attempting to open firefox today (as I have probably over 20 times a day for the last year at least), I received a blue screen of death, and now my computer seems to be shot. A:[SOLVED] BSOD help. Blank screen after BIOS pop up and blue screen while trying to re

From the video you provided (which is great, by the way)... your system is failing to POST. Essentially if the system detects that a device or component is failing to provide the accurate information, which ensures that it would then be safe to run, the system will not POST.

From the looks of it, your hard drive or memory appears to be the issue which is the issue in most of the cases like this as you're BSOD'ing right after loading the Windows disc and after it loads the files necessary for the install.

My current advice:

1. Clear / reset the CMOS and try booting up and or loading the disc again.

2. If possible using another system, possibly a laptop... etc, download and run Memtest86+ -

Download Memtest86+ here:

Which should I download?

You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

How Memtest works:

Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.

The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns ... Read more

After doing a fresh install of windows xp home on my friend's HP laptop, she took it away and has been happily using it for the last week.

(Reason for fresh install was suspected infection)

Now, it starts and almost gets to the logon, but a two second blue screen with the message:-

"Begining dump of physical memory. Physical dump complete. Contact your system administer or technical support for further assistance"

It then reboots back to the safe mode options screen and will not boot into any of them.

She says it hasn't had a knock or fall, but the only time I've seen a message like that before was when it was due to a hardware issue?

Any advice?

My brother has a Sony Vaio FW21L laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit installed. Yesterday when he turned it on after the welcome screen appeared he got a blue screen of death. He says he hasn't installed any new devices or software and he ran a virus scan which revealed no problems. He tried a system restore to the day before and also entered safe mode but the problem persists.

Can anyone tell me how this can be solved?

A:Solved: Blue screen of death after welcome screen

Problems that persist in Safe Mode and after System Restore's are usually hardware ones. But I'd also try a restore to a few days further back before the problem.

If the problem remains, start by checking the memory.

In Vista you can do this by running mdsched.exe

On reboot when the scanner appears, press F1 and run the extended tests.

I don't think it will show any non Microsoft drivers, but --

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder. *this assumes 'c' is your boot drive, if it is not, subsitute accordingly
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a non Microsoft driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

When i have booted up in "safe mode with networking" the latop is still over heating but it dosn't freeze or i don't get the blue screen of death. I am also limited to what i can doin safe mode.
Any ideas what the problem could be please chaps?
Thanks in advance

I do have the dump file it that is of any use to anyone, attached...if anyone can point out what is going on it would be greatly appreciated.....

A:Solved: Blue Screen Help!!!!

your crash-dump indicates that athr.sys (Atheros Extensible Wireless LAN device driver) is the cause. Are you using wireless? Heres a link to the Acer Download Center look for your model and Update your drivers.

Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.
On Wed 1/12/2011 10:12:24 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\011211-28548-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: athr.sys (athr+0x4473A)
Bugcheck code: 0xD1 (0x54, 0x2, 0x0, 0xFFFFFFFF9545573A)
Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: athr.sys .
Google query: athr.sys DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Hi ddffaa,

Does your computer give out the blue screen only when your playing games? Try scanning your computer memory for any errors. Use a good memory diagnostics utility called "Memtest86+" and make sure you let the diagnostics program make multiple passes. Hope everything works out well for you and feel free to ask more questions.

A:Solved: Blue screen

Hi and welcome. The log you posted indicates the error was probably caused by "sis163u.sys" which is a driver file for a USB wireless network adapter.

The driver on your PC is about five years old, so you might want to see if an updated driver is available from the wireless adapter manufacturer.

Also note, sometimes errors are random. If you can zip 4 or 5 minidumps, we can see if they are consistent.

Good Afternoon,
I hope you can help me. I am not particularly computer literate and hope I've understood the instructions I've read on your forum. I have been having continual problems with the Blue Screen of Death for the past month. It is happening more and more often and at time, 2 or 3 times a day. I have tried to update drivers but my computer indicates that all drivers are up to date. I have tried to remove any programmes that were unused also.

I look forward to hearing from you, hopefully with an answer.

I'm running Vista Home Basic. I'm wondering if this is related to my anti virus software? I have two other computers that run Windows 7 Home Premium and for a while both of them had multiple BSOD that had error codes very similar to this one and it turned out to be a problem with my McAfee Internet Security. The 2011 edition apparently had a lot of problems with the 64 bit versions of Windows 7. So far the 2012 version has been virtually trouble free with both Vista and Windows 7. After I got this it restarted and everything seems to be working and the BSOD hasn't come back, yet. Can anyone tell me exactly what went wrong and how serious this is? Thanks in advance.

Hi Crimsonfear -

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - XP Support!

There should be memory dump files left behind by each BSOD. If you can get them and send them to me, I'll take a look to see if a more definitive cause can be determined for your system crashes.

The memory dump files should be located in c:\windows\minidump\ - the dump files will be named similar to "Mini041008-01.dmp". Get them all - regardless of the number.

I will also need a Belarc Advisor report saved in "mht" format (after running Belarc it will bring the report up in an Internet Explorer screen - go to the top right of the IE screen; Page; Saved as; save as mht), as a web page (html) or as a Word document. You can download Belarc HERE.

Then zip up the memory dump files and the Belarc report and send them to me via the email address that I have provided to you in my PM. Please be sure to place your screen name in the subject of the email and a link to your thread in the body - very important.

Please be patient as ... Read more

I've recently been encountering the blue-screen of death, and it just so happens that its starting to just after my pc has come off its service warranty. Anyway, I tried a few things that I thought would fix it, but it happen again. Unfortunately, since it restarts on its own, I can't write down any codes. There are some on board diagnostic programs, but those only let me know that there was a problem, not how to fix it. I pasted the screen shot of the error that I getting once I run the Dell Diagnostic Program, but I have no idea on how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, my pc specs are below and I've attached a copy of the screen shot.

Hey TassieBob, this issue might occur if a system thread generates an exception that the error handler does not catch.

What Service Pack (SP) are you using to install XP Pro?

Slipstreaming SP1 and SP2 might solve the problem::

You can download SP2 at the following microsoft website::

Hi, Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I have a two year old dell dimension e310 desktop computer that has 'never' had a problem...until last night. After installing a game
online for my son (from gametap) the game was running very slow and then just froze on the
screen. I tried every way to shut the game off...couldn't...it was just stuck. I tried ctl-alt-delete expecting the task manager to appear....nothing... At that point I resorted to just shutting off the main switch. When I turned it back on a couple of minutes later it tried to start
normally...then a blue screen comes up that says a 'problem has been detected and windows
has been forced to shut down....etc'.. On the blue screen there's a code ... 0x000000ED
(0x86372590,0xc0000006,0x00000000,0x00000000) I don't know what to do...I'm online here using a borrowed computer that barely crawls along...which I have to return later today. I'd greatly appreciate any help because my family and I have some things that are very important
and time sensitive on the dell.. Thanks, Will E

It is hard to say if the game caused this, or the abrupt shutdown. Probably the latter. See if you can boot into Safe Mode (hold F8 at startup) and uninstall whatever it was. If that fails you may have to give the recovery console, by booting into the XP disk and selecting "R" for repair. From the recovery console, follow the on screen instructions, then when it is waiting for a command type in "fixboot" hit enter, then type in "fixmbr" and hit enter.

Hello I have a bootup and shutdown problem which began after downloading kaspersky. I finally managed to install SS with the kav technology without crashing and getting the blue screen. I had to reformat first, and had the same problem after because of KAV on my PC being part of SS security suite; I am installed now, but the program does the blue screen to me at times, and today I crashed again until I disabled startup of program in settings, so may delete. In addition, once I installed my new XP it would not allow me to not partition the hard drive, mine is 200GB, so now I noticed something new; If I right click onto C:\ in the menu options now is an option " format " which was not on my XP system before. Is this because of having to select the partition option during installing XPHOME? I also noticed urshuta.exe in tasks and wonder if it is responsible for bootup and shutdown problems. I have no shutdown screen now, as well. Help!! phantompa
