Q: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38) The driver could not be loaded because a previous version of the driver is still in memory.

I have this problem:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

The driver could not be loaded because a previous version of the driver is still in memory.

and now I am not able to connect any usb device to my laptop making it virtually impossible to use windows 10.
How do I downgrade to windows 7,have enough of the beta testing.
I even have a purchased version of windows 10 pro which I really regret buying, worst investment ever.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have been having an issue with my flash drive being recognized by my laptop computer. When I initially start up my computer, it reads my flash drive. If I take out my flash drive and reinsert it, it no longer reads it. (It still makes the sound the the
computer recognizes it was inserted, but it won't open the drive.) When I go into device manger, it has that yellow exclamation point with this message, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device
driver is still in memory. (Code 38)". My cordless mouse has been working just fine.
I did troubleshooting and it told me to restart the computer. That helps for the first time, but then when I reinsert the flash drive , the problem happens again.
I tried to uninstall the hubs and reinstall but that also doesn't seem to be helping.
Any ideas?

Thanks

My Windows 7 64 bit desktop is several years old. The other day, without warning, both my CD drives stopped working. I discovered the error above (in title). First, I simply attempted to have Windows update the drivers (both from the PC and from the Web).
The response I received was that the drivers were up to date. Next, I did a system restore to a point when I knew the CD drives were working - no help. I next attempted to repair Windows from the install CD using a portable CD drive. When I plugged it into
the USB port(s) I got the same error message. I also did an uninstall and let the system search and reinstall - no help. I've been searching for the correct drivers but, so far have been unsuccessful. The drive description is "Optiarc DVD RW AD-7280S
ATA Device". Type = DVD/CD-ROM drives; Manufacturer = Standard CD-ROM drives; Location 1 (Channel 1, Target 1, Lun0). Driver provider - Microsoft; Driver Date - 6/21/2006; Driver version - 6.1.7601.17514; Digital Signer - Microsoft Windows. File version
- 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) The driver location is (of course) C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys
Any suggestions will be most welcome. Thanks in advance

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) <-- This god for shaken message is stopping me from enjoying my computer.

The driver is MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-861H ATA Device

And that up there is the error message, i havnt downloaded anything i just pressed the button on the cd/dvd drive and my computer shut down and when i turned it back on nothing it it worked.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Im practilly computer illiterate so please be easy on the big words and stuff =]

A:Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted

Please try the steps below:

1. Uninstall all third-party burning software, such as Nero and Roxio.

2. Perform a Clean Boot to test the result.

Clean Boot

========
a. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility.

Note: Please click Continue if the "User Account Control" window pops up.

b. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
c. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
d. Restart the computer and test the issue.

Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK".

Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment. If the issue disappears, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.

If the issue persists, please contact your computer manufacturer to check if the DVD drive is damaged.

If not, you may need to restore the system to its factory settings.

Hope it helps.

I am not sure what I have done, but I have some how screwed up settings with my video card. I have went to Microsoft's knowledge base and found the following: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prjk_dec_lgsc.asp

When I went there, I spotted my error problem and tryed to resolve my problem with no luck. I have Windows XP by the way. I have tryed updating my drivers and everything.

I also did a Google search on my problem and found, many hits. I saw that some people may have deleted some good files that may have been a result in this error. I believe this may be the cause of my error too. I may have deleted something off my hard drive that could of been of value to my video card.

I do have a ghosted drive though of my System C and was wondering if that reallyu was my problem.... If I really did delete something of value to my graphics card. If it I believe I can easily repair it with my ghosted System C drive with Norton's, but please tell me if you think it isn't

Hi,

As you all know, the "Driver" tab of every device inside Device Manager shows a device's name, driver provider and driver version (as shown in the image)

Is there a command line which could list out (in table format) the name, driver provider and driver version of every device (without grouping them within nodes if possible)?

I'm only interested in device, not driver.  I carefully chose the word "device" instead of "driver" because a device can be made up of several driver (files) which could be at different version amongst them.

I've tried devcon (command is devcon find *) but it doesn't match what I'm looking for -- it's showing a lot of things that I don't even know what they are.  And there's no driver provider or version.

I've also treid driverquery, but it lists driver files instead of
device, and doesn't show version number.

Is there other alternatives?
TIA

Long story short, I tested a friends graphics card in my homebuilt computer to see if it worked. I took my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro out, and put in this other card, and then replaced the other card back with my Ati Radeon 9800 Pro. Since then, I cannot get the drivers to work again for my 9800.

I have Windows 7, 32 bit. I am positive that I did a fresh install of windows 7, not an upgrade. I cant remember if I installed specific drivers for my graphics card at that time, or if windows did it. All I know is that the card was running good, with two monitors running together. Everything stopped working after I tried my friends card out.

Ive downloaded so many Ati Catalysts, 10.2, 9.3, 9.1, 8.7, 8.1, and also different versions (XP and Vista) and none of them will work. Sometimes it will just say "The current driver is up to date" and its showing the standard VGA graphics adapter. Sometimes it will say "Radeon 9800 PRO installed, reboot now" then when I reboot, it will give me this error
"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" when I check device manager. Basically any driver I try will give me this error.

Basically what I was doing was boot into safe mode, use DriveSweeper to delete all ATI files, then reboot and install different catalyst, then go through device manager to "update driver". Then I would get the error above.

Hi,

Since the 11/18/2012 event viewer (Event ID 219, Task Category 212) has been posting a warning:

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN (followed by name of USB device)

It only occurs on start up if I have a USB memory device plugged into a USB port. The USB memory device functions perfectly and the error never occurs when I plug in and out a memory device after boot up.

The error only occurs for memory devices like memory sticks, external USB hard drive does not cause this error.

Checking back to around the 11/18/2012 I see nothing that I have changed/installed that might indicate something that has caused this. No other Windows 7 failures or issues.

Booting a second hard drive with windows 7 on the same system (I have this second installation for testing faults etc), the issue does NOT occur.

From checking forums and searching I have found a few others with this issue and a few articles on its cause

WUDFRd failed to load for the device

Event ID 219 is logged after you install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

I was just curious as to why it would suddenly start occurring after a particular date when as far as I can tell I have not made any changes to anything around this date.

Also I wondered if there was a fix to stop this, other than removing a memory stick before boot up!

Any thoughts?

A:The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device... error

I just started getting this exact same error message logged in Event Viewer when I plug a USB stick into a USB port. It happens with two different sticks from two different manufactures, but it does not happen every time I plug them in. It seems that it may mostly happen the first time I plug a stick in after I have booted up my PC.

Have you been able to find a solution to get these error codes to stop logging?

Apparently, I am one of many who seem to be having this issue. And just like everybody else, I turned to Google for some answers. Here is my scenario (perhaps gregrocker could point me in the right direction?):

I am running on a laptop with the following specs:

Dell Studio 1735
32-bit Vista Home Premium, SP1
Intel 2 Core Duo, T8100 @ 2.10 GHz
250 GB SATA HDD, 5400 RPM
4 GBs of RAM

8x Slot Load CD / DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)

I downloaded the .iso image of Windows 7 through the software program at Penn State and burned it to a DVD. When I restart my computer and boot off of the DVD drive, I get the Windows 7 Installation interface. As the setup begins, I get an error message that says "Load Driver" across the top of the window, and says "A required CD/DVD Drive Device Driver is missing". I tried a few things to circumvent this issue:

1. I swapped out the installation CD with one of the CD's that came with my laptop that contains all of my device drivers. It found one compatible driver for the ATA/ATAPI Controller, and despite selecting it and hitting next, it didn't work.

2. I took the service tag from my laptop, downloaded each and every driver that it's associated with, burned it to an .iso, and swapped THAT out when I tried to install. Again, nothing happened.

3. I mounted the .iso onto an 8GB Cruzer and made a bootable flash drive. Upon trying the install again, I had the same problem.

Try extracting the ISO to Vista desktop to run Setup from there.

You can locate the driver in Vista's Device Manager SATA controller Driver info tab.

The fact that it would duplicate the error for USB flash install sounds like a malfunction.

Try removing 2 gb of RAM.

Check BIOS version to see if you have the latest.

At Windows 10 startup this Warning appears in my Event Log as Event ID: 219.

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\{a1c931b2-3b00-11e5-9c14-806e6f6e6963}#0000000008100000.

I know why this happens. The device in the message is an internal SATA AHCI hard drive. All AHCI drives, even internal ones, are considered removal or hot swapable. It even causes the safely remove icon to appear sort of like it was a USB drive. It happened on Windows 8.x. Don't remember if it happened on Windows 7. I can't make any changes in my BIOS to make it not hot swapable as there is no option for this drive.

The fix to get rid of the message in W8 was to modify the Service 'Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework' Changing the Startup type from Manual to Automatic fixed the problem. However, on Windows 10 this method does not work.

I can't disable the Service as it's needed for other devices. Just wondering if anyone found a nice clean way to get rid of the warning message like in W8?

A:The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device .......

I have the same issue. I have upgraded from Win 7 home, had some issues so I did a clean install of Win 10 home, and I also tried changing the Windows Driver Foundation - User Mode Driver Framework from manual to auto and same as you it did not work. And, Yes, I have downloaded and installed all of the latest driver/firmware from my manufacturer for all my hardware but still have this issue.

*** Problem has reappeared, so this is NOT a solution ****
It worked for 5 reboots, so strange it reappeared

Been searching for days to find a solution for this problem (including fresh installs of Windows 10 etc), and today accidentally found it ... for my Asus Maximus V111 Formula at least, but it may also work on other motherboards

In BIOS, ensure that the XHCI Hand-Off is set to ENABLED (default is disabled)

I changed this, and now I can boot the system with USB devices inserted, and not get any Kernal-PnP warnings

Hope this helps somebody else

hi, last night i googled something and stumbled upon a thread saying you should always uninstall previous version of drivers when installing a newer version. i kept looking and there is pretty mixed opinion about it. so what actually happens to the previous version when you install a newer one over the top of it, would it not just remain in the driver store in case you need to roll back to that version.??

A:Uninstall previous version driver??

Hello Mitchell,

There are different opinions about this. Some drivers require to uninstalling the previous version before installing the new version and others don't do this.

Uninstalling the old drivers is required because they might run in conflict with the newer versions. I think, the best time to wipe the old drivers from computer is when everything run smooth on the new ones and you are sure you won't need to revert to the old ones.

Well, that's my two cents.

Cheers...

Hi - I'm new to this, so please be gentle.....

Over the weekend I found that my Canon Digital camera will no longer download images to my PC. (Yes, it used to work wonderfully!)

Every time I'd plug the camera into the USB port, the PC would not recognize it. I found that the Device Mgr had a message like this "the device will not operate properly because the driver is already loaded in memory - Code 35 (or 38?)"

My thought is that I left the camera plugged into the PC, and then XP went to sleep. While it was sleeping I unplugged the camera to use it. Now when I try to hook it back up I get the message....

I've tried uninstalling the driver and uninstalling the software, but with no luck.

Is there anyone who might have some suggestions on things I can look for or try?

I have Windows XP
Thank you!!!
Greg

I am tying to sync my Samsung Galaxy J7Sky Pro phone with my computer using Samsung Smart Switch Program.
When I start the Smart Switch Program and plug in the USB cable from the phone to the computer USB port, the device driver for the phone does not install properly or recognize the phone, as depicted by a yellow exclaimation point for the Galaxy J7 Sky Pro
device driver and AMDA00 interface under system devices.
I tried reinstalling the Samsung phone device driver but still get the above exclaimation for these drivers.
I then shut down and restarted the Samsung phone and the drivers reinstalled properly and the Smart Switch Program worked.

My issue is that the next time I restarted my computer, I get the same device driver errors.
Is there some way to prevent having to restart and reinstall the device drivers each time I want to sync my phone using the Smart Switch program?
Same issue used to happen with my Samsung Galaxy SIII phone, before I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Sky Pro.
It is a real pain in the neck and time waster.

Windows 8.1 Pro x64 - please find the complete system log warning details below and a (related or not?) disk controller error below.  Motherboard is an ASRock B75 Pro 3 with an Intel B75 Chipset.
I keep getting these warnings.  I get them for all my Windows Portable Devices (disk drives) on boot up.  Here are my disks:
Disk 0 on internal SATA 3 connector off an
ASMedia ASM1061 chip on motherboard (internal drive, but enumerated as removable) - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 D: data drive
Disk 1 on internal SATA 3 connector off the B75 chipset on motherboard (internal drive, not enumerated as removable - gives no warnings or errors - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 C: system drive (has Windows 8.1 OS on it)
Disk (2 or 3 depends on order of USB connection) on external USB 2.0 connector off back I/O panel of motherboard - Kingston DT 101 II USB device F: backup thumb drive
Disk (2 or 3 - depends on order of USB connection) on external USB 3.0 connector off back I/O panel of motherboard - Seagate BlackArmor DAS35 USB device G: backup external hard drive
There are no symptoms other than another (probably unrelated) disk controller error (shown below).  The controller error is on either drive 2 or 3, but never 0 or 1, so it is one of the external back up drives (the thumb drive or the BlackArmor drive).
Note that on boot up I get the warning for disk 0 above whether or not the external drives are connected so the disk controller error may be unrel... Read more

Hey everyone

I've encountered this problem in the following machine:

1.8ghz AMD Sempron 3400+
512mb RAM
2 x 40GB HDD drives
1 x CD drive
1 x DVD drive
Biostar motherboard (VIA chipset)

This particular computer has "extended" drives available, or something like that, that I had never seen, giving it the ability to load up to 6 IDE devices. Under Hardware manager, they show up as Primary, Primary, Secondary, Secondary.

Now, I don't know what they did before I took over, but both the CD drive and DVD drive, while appearing fine under the BIOS, do not show up in Windows, and instead have an exclamation mark next to them in the device manager. I uninstalled all IDE controllers, which uninstalled both drives, rebooted, and no good. I reinstalled the Biostar Chipset drivers (VIA) and it didn't do any good.

Apparently someone had the same problem and got a solution over at x-pert x-change, but their greedy hands want me to pay to see the solution. Not in this lifetime, buster!

So any help regarding this issue is greatly appreciated, I will continue to troubleshoot, but I'm not very good at optical drives.

Thanks!

A:On CD drives: Windows loaded the driver correctly but could not find the device

Maybe works, try to connect only one of optical driver with one of working HDD on same IDE cable and setup jumper of the optical driver as "Slave". Jumper setting is important thing on IDE connections. And put a bootable CD (like Windows setup cd) in optical driver, will it work.
Use this TOOL maybe works.
I hope that gives you some ideas.

Warning: This is gonna be messy.

Okay... So I have a HP dv6000 with Windows Vista Home Premium. Over the past six months it has been suffering from hard drive issues, resulting in crashes. The remedy to fix the crashed hard drive has been to do a complete system restore by booting the computer, hitting F11, and doing a COMPLETE SYSTEM RECOVERY to factory settings.

However, this last time I went to recover to factory settings I got a message saying Error: 10002 - Contact HP if this persists.

Long story short, I have now warranty, and do not want to get the hardware fixed nor the software looked at. I am happy with a barely functioning computer as I have a desktop I primarily use.

I am also a student in the School of Business at a state university, and we have a partnership with Microsoft for free product downloads. With that said, I have had the pleasure of using Windows 7 Professional for quiet some time on my desktop. Now, I want to just reinstall Windows on my laptop - whether its vista, xp, or 7.

That said, I have all three ISO's burned to a CD and LEGAL CD KEYS to use with them.

XP had a partition issue that I haven't spent much time with, and windows vista wont recognize my cd key that came with the laptop (THIS IS THE ONLY CD KEY I DID NOT GET ONLINE FOR I HAVE ONE LEGALLY VIA MY COMPUTER PURCHASE).

For that reason, I moved on to Windows 7. I go to install it, and the first thing that comes up in that windows 7 needs to install a cd/dvd driver dev... Read more

Hey there -

Just a quick question regarding Device Manager. I was updating some drivers and was checking through System Devices and noticed that when I checked the properties on some of the devices ( Intel ICH9 Family SMBus Controller 2930 for example ) it says that there are no driver files loaded for the device.

However when I click the driver tab it lists information as if drivers are loaded. When I try to update the drivers nothing happens so I'm not sure whether the device is working or not - it's telling me two conflicting answers.

Any ideas? THANKS!
- Tagen

A:No Driver Files Are Loaded For This Device...

If there were no driver for the controller, you would know it by problems with the computer
That being said, if there are no very small yellow markers by the device in the Device Manager, you are ok.

Hi! The Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2017/2:nd edition has an OLED panel option. Lenovo's download page for this model, https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-... , offers a driver "Intel "OLED Panel Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Type: 20JD, 20JE, 20JF, 20JG)", 1.0.0.5, 2017/10/02, in the Display and Video Graphics section. In Windows, the device appears as "Intel(R) OLED Panel Driver" under "System devices" in the Windows Device Manager. Normally I'd think all needed to drive a display is the graphics driver (e.g. "Intel(R) HD Graphics 620" under "Display adapters") and a monitor file for resolution, frequency and color calibration ("OLED Display 2560x1440" under "Monitors"). So, why do we need an "Intel(R) OLED Panel Driver", and what does this device actually do?

I tried to update my older Radeon ATI 5450 GPU via windows update...

I received the message from windows update, and showed it failed update with the 0x800706be

However when I go to device manager and check the details of the installed driver it clearly shows the new updated version? So I wonder which is correct the device manager showing the new version of the driver or windows update?

A:Failed Update 0x800706be driver...but device mgr shows updated driver?

You can identify the problem using Device Manager, which you can access by:
Opening the Control Panel Window
Selecting and double-clicking System
Clicking Device Manager
In Device Manager check if there is an exclamation point, a yellow triangle, or a question mark against your Dell device. If there is, there is a problem with your Dell device.

That is the default Windows audio driver, and I don't think it can be uninstalled. Best is to not worry about it and just install the Realtek driver.

Uninstall the Realtek driver or do a system restore to before you installed it.

Hi everyone. I just bought myself a new barebones computer and it doesn't have the driver for the ETHERNET CONNECTION or the USB WIFI ADAPTER I purchased for it.

The problem here is that I ran the installer for the WIFI adapter (right off of the CD that it came with) and restart the computer as instructed, but after restarting the WIFI adapter still shows that it has no driver in the device manager.

I took like 4-5 screenshots of what I am seeing on my computer to try and make this easier to solve. (Please view attached files)

I don't understand why the installer for the driver wouldn't naturally connect the driver with the device that it was meant for?

I am on my laptop right now, but can't connect to the internet with my new desktop because there is no Ethernet driver and my WIFI driver apparently isn't correlating with the device it was meant for.

Please help someone .....

Bought a new Logitech webcam C270 Have installed, uninstalled several times then went online with logitech support and we uninstalled again and then downloaded from their website. In device manager under the tab imaging devices it gives us the error message that Windows can not load my device driver for my Photosmart C6200 or for my Logitech C270 webcam.

We did an uninstall and reinstall and it still says that. The support tech said that is all he could do that I would have to go to Gateway and download my OS driver. Talked to them but they can't help me because it would cost a fortune because my computer is older and not covered under their plan.

HELP

A:Windows can not load my device driver for my C270 Logitech webcam

Since both devices show as not being able to load the driver, have you tried uninstalling the Photosmart C6200 software as well?
Could be there is a conflict between the 2 drivers.

If that does not help, it could be a problem with the USB port setup, so updating the motherboard drivers[/URL] is indeed a next step.
