Q: Canon Multipass 360 - scanning issue


The scanner has worked correctly before, but is not now.

When I place a single page on the glass on the scanner and push scan, the document is scanned twice and the image appears as 2 seperate docs. Why is it doing this? I want it to remain 1 page like the original. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled the software (Multipass Manager 3.01) for my Canon C5500 printer; during the reinstall, I am receiving the following error "Failed to register mpservic.exe to windows NT as domain or service". Can anyone give me any insight on how to make the software register this executable to the service MPSERVICE? I tried to remove all entries for the Canon printer in the registry and reinstalled the software; but I am receiving this same error everytime and the software is uninstallled after the error. Please help!!

Two things to try: If you have anti-virus software, disable it, uninstall the cannon stuff. Reboot (be sure av is still disabled), and reinstall. Then reenable av, restart for good measure.

We have a Canon imageRunner 1025N multifunction printer/copier/scanner in our office. Up until today, it was directly connected to one of our office computers through a USB cable. Now it's been networked. One of the functions of this printer is that it could scan in documents to the computer. But now that it's networked, the scanner feature seems to no longer be an option. As far as I could tell with the manual, the scanner will not work if it's networked. My question is that if this is true, can a printer be connected to a networked AND connected to a computer through the USB cable at the same time (without any functionality issues) so that we can scan our documents again? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you. (And if there is no one with an answer, any help directing me to where I could find an answer would be appreciated as well since I cannot find how to get help through Canon's website.)

You may just need to reinstall the Canon software from the CD and configure the scanner as being Network connect rather then USB. Also the brochure suggests the unit support Scan to Email and Scan to FTP, you can configure that if its network connected, that's generally how most Xerox units are setup at the sites I visit. The Canon website seems to very lacking, you may have better manuals on the installation CD.

But there should be no reason it can't be connected both ways, however the scan to email or a network drive would be better.

I recently reformatted my machine to Windows XP and went to install the printer. I then realized that I must need an update and went to the manufactor's website (www.canon.com). After following directions as best I could it didn't work. Said it was missing files and I couldn't find the Multipass Server although the computer of course said it was installed. I've since removed it and tried again (tried doing BOTH updates and follow those instructions) still the same result! I have tried to email Canon & fill in my Serial Number but that site says to please put in a vaild machine! Arrrgghhh! Please someone help! Suggestions? Instructions? Advice?

Ok guys, i made the plunge and finally went out and bought a new computer. its a compaq desktop and i have windows xp home running on it now.
I am trying to set up my multipass printer to work with this computer but it wont let me everytime i put the disc in to install i gt the error message (with the multipass i also have the scanner copier and fax. all in one )

the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications

i dont understand it worked fine on windows me. i know its compataible with xp because i checked the canon site. i have looked for help online both at cannon and microsoft but to nothing. the only thing i could find was a patch that canon has they say updates the drivers when u install it i dwnloaded the patch and ran it but it dsays no need to update.
I also did the xp service pack 2 thru windows update. i didnt try to install my multipass before the update but im guessing that has somethng to do with it because after i installed the update my cable modum quit working thru the ethernet cable. i am connected online now using a usb but i would rather have my modum hooked up on ethernet card again. can anyone help please

I don't know what happened, but my MP F30 isn't working. IT started out with docs sitting in the print que and going no where. I'm sure I rebooted and the same thing occurred. I tried to delete the printer and re-add, but still no luck. When I finally thought I was close, it wanted to install the driver from a certain location. It couldn't find it, so I downloaded a new one, and it seemed to indicate it was not the right file, even calling it a different name other than what was in properties.

Then I downloaded the program installation itself, and when it gets to the part where it seeks the connection, it doesn't find one. I tried different ports, front and back, unplugging, rebooting, etc, to no avail. I thought maybe my USB cable was bad, so I went and bought a new one, and it still does the same thing. (Doesn't see it) I also bought a new male/female parallel cable, thinking I will try that as a last resort, but the end that goes in the back of the printer is not the same as either cable end, even though it is marked parallel.

Any help is appreciated.

Had to trash my Canon printer & now have new Lexmark installed & it's working fine but there is still a shortcut icon on my startup screen for the Canon Multipass printer. There is nothing in Add/Remove Programs for Canon Multipass. Tried the usual clicking on the shortcup icon and hitting delete or moving the whole thing to recycle bin but it wont go away. When I right clicking on the icon message comes up "Fail to load dll:mpdblf.dll specified module could not be found." Ok then I go to files and search for Multipass and find some files, some of which I can delete others that wont budge and come up with error message "Error deleting file or folder cannot delete DTM4.dll access denied. Make sure disk is not full or write protected & that files currently not in use." I would like to rid myself of this reminder of a past printer but am not having much luck. Any ideas????

I have the same issue as massagegirl had back in 2003. I couldn't find a reply to her issue, so I'm posting it anew. I have an HP Pavilion a1410y with USB ports but NO LPT ports, running XP Home. I bought a USB-to-parallel cable to connect my Canon. Windows hardware wizard finds and identifies the device but cannot find the software to install it. I downloaded a driver for XP from one of the driver websites (XPC5500) but Windows can't find whatever file it is looking for in XPC5500. If I launch the installation directly from XPC5500 it works OK except that when it comes to selecting the desired printer port, the only ones offered are LPT1, 2 or 3. No USB port is selectable. Short of buying a card with LPT ports on it, does anyone know of a workaround?

Just bought a new computer with windows 7, can't get Canon multipass F50 driver to download. Apparently there is an incompatability issue between the two...Who's at fault here and what can I do about it? I need the printer and can't afford a new one and I've given away the old computer. Help!

What you might want to try to do is unistall the cannon all together. Then rebot and reinstall it then and see what happen. then reboot again. If it still does it then go on the web and download the latest driver. Remove the cannon one more time and reinstall it with the driver from the internet.

Okay, I have a perfectly working home LAN, and this junker sitting around, and decided to stick it on the network. Now, it is hosted off of a ME machine, everthing works fine (except the fax, though I think that is gone for good, not that I need it), and I'm trying to print to it off of another ME client, with the same drivers installed, but no taskbar thingy. I figured I wouldn't need it, seeing as the printer isn't local. I print off the client, and the document appears in the printer cache dialog (Start > Settings > Printers > Canon MultiPASS C5000 Printer) on both machines, but the document finishes spooling, and then disappears, never to be heard from again.

Anybody have any idea what's up?

I have searched everywhere for information on how to fix this and all I can find on the internet is how rotten these multipass printers and their softwares are!

The computer in question had crashed several times, so I had bought a new hard drive, reinstalled the OS and copied over several folders from the old hard drive (which I added as a slave drive in case Mom ever needs to find any of her old crap). I only copied over folders that seemed necessary and safe (for instance, no program files were copied over, we opted to reinstall everything new).

Everything seemed okay except two things: first, I could not install MS Office 2000 (turns out I needed to download the windows installer update from microsoft.com) and second, the canon multipass would not install. It seems fail when trying to install the desktop manager software. We tried downloading the driver package from Canon's website to no avail. I've scoured the downloads and CD and sought out the driver files and individual exe's, but without desktop manager installed, the printer does not function. I keep getting the same error "Unknown Model Key". The thing that kills me is that there are NO (on Canon's site or searched on Yahoo, DogPile and countless other engines) references to "Unknown Model Key".

I too have been getting the same message "model key unknown". However, after repeating the install several times the driver software (from canon download) would finally come up! Now, the problem is another message comes up "failed to register devices in NT devices and servic.exe".

By the way, the extractor extracts the files to "C drive..Temp" if you want to follow the path of the files.

I just upgraded my home network to a wireless system. I'm running XP Pro on the computer hardwired to the Canon Multipass F50. My laptop is running XP Home and networked via wireless. All aspects of the network operate perfectly, file sharing, internet access, etc. The add printer function allows me to find the canon over the network, I have the driver installed (because I've been using the printer in a networked (shared) mode prior to going with the wireless router. Now when I attempt to print I get an error message that states: "Failed to open printer" Canon's website simply states that there are no drivers for XP to allow for sharing this printer.

Wonderful!! Anyone have a workaround? It used to share until I went wireless.

It almost sounds like there's a permission problem with using the printer with the laptop. Try going to the printer properties on the machine that the printer's connected to. Go to the Security tab and make sure that your laptop login computer name is there and all of the permissions in the ACL list are checked. You could also try going to Network Neighborhood, go to the computer that has the printer connected and try to connect to the printer through there.

Hi guys,

Im having trouble uninstalling canon multipass suite 4.40 from my laptop. I'm using windows xp, so I have been trying to do it through the add/remove programs bit in the control panel. It all seems to go well until I try to restart the computer. As it it is trying to shutdown a msg appears saying that the multipass suite program is not responding and asks if you want to end the program now. If you select end now the same msg reappears after a short time but if you select 'end now' the computer shuts down then restarts. when the computer has restarted the canon multipass suite 4.40 program is still there! I have gone through this process several times with no success. As my laptop seems to only have a 50GB hard drive (i think, i could be wrong) I need to get rid of some of my unused programs such as this one. Can anyone help?
Also, I have no proper computer training, kinda self taught (Don't cringe!) so I'm not up with the terminology and stuff but I am a quick learner!

Installed WindowsXP Home printer was already connected to computer. After I insatalled XP updates printer stopped functioning properly. Thought it might be a good idea to uninstall and reinstall the printer, but it won't let me.

I have a Canon MultiPass MP390 All-in-One printer, fax, scan, copy machine.
When printing from my Firefox web browser (latest version) all copies include the URL information at the top of each page. Often when printing multiple pages graphic information is split onto two pages. Is there a way to layout pages so as not to include the URL information and to avoid splitting graphic information? XP & Canon Multipass C5500 - Service Pack 2???

I found out that the problem is not with the parallel to USB cable. The problem is that the Multipass C5500 will not work with XP Service Pack 2. Canon specifically states that it is incompatible. Is there any way around this?!

I got a Canon Multipass c5500 and saw that it had a parallel cable connector - so I got a parallel to USB cable as my pc doesn't have a parallel port. When I plug in the USB cable, my computer tells me that it has found new hardware - and tells me that it is the Canon Multipass C5500 printer. I install the software, but I still can't use it. Every time my computer boots up, the Multipass Desktop software tells me that it can't connect to the C5500, but the "install new hardware" window comes up.

Anyone have any ideas on how to remedy this???

The easiest remedy would be to buy a PCI card with 1 or 2 parellel ports on it.

Can anyone help with the following problem?
When I use the scanning function, the image (text) I get is almost unreadable in the preview pane. Transferring it to email, it still remains the same.
Some time ago I checked with Canon support and they advised me to adjust the MAPI settings in the email program. Got no idea what they are talking about. I don't think it is an email problem as the scan is not successful before sending it to Outlook.
I have adjusted various settings, but the scan is the same - unreadable.
Has anyone else had this problem, and, any suggestions?

i am having canon ir3225 printer cum xerox cum scanner machine. all the machine are working in our domain.

i want to scan files to directly to the respective persons PC. So I have created one shared folder in his PC.

now the problem is when i am registering any one, after entering username and password of that persons PC and browse for the scan folder it give an error that Check the destination folder path, username and password. while the password and all other things are correct.

I have a Canon MP540 all in one printer which I am happy with apart from one thing; I cannot find a way for it to scan documents into Microsoft Word. My only options appear to be scanning into PDF, which I can't alter or jpg photo format. I have not come across this problem before with Canon printers.

I have just downloaded the MP navigator in order to scan from my Pixma MP160, which I have had for 3 years now, but have never used it for scanning. The icon appeared on my desktop, but when I press the scan button and I choose MP navigator as the program to use, it tells me that the driver is not installed. How is this possible? I downloaded it from the Canon site and I do not see any separate downloads for drivers...

Does anyone know what I should do?

I just got a Canon Pixma MP480 and I'm trying to use the OCR option to scan a document and save it as a text file. The software that comes with it is MP Navigator EX and the help file says:

After the image is scanned, the text in the image is extracted and appears in Notepad (included with Windows).

I can scan a document, but the only options are to save it as either a TIFF or BMP file. The only option that comes with the OCR function is to set the language. I don't see anyway to save it as a txt file and Notepad doesn't "appear".

If so .. scan as a tif .. then see
M$ Office >> Office Tools >> M$ Office Document Imaging.
This will read the tif and save to a Word.doc file, then you can use Spell Checker ..etc .. to clean it up.

M$ Office Document Scanning .. Will probably run the scanner in the Office OCR mode.

The issue is simply everytime I've used Etrust virus scan when in Internet explorer (have to be) I minimize it, and when I bring it to normal it's fine, but minimize it and bring it up when it's in the Java folder it freezes, should I do an individual scan on the Java folder to see if it has viruses or just make it a special do not scan folder and un-click it when scanning?

Hi, Often the applets stored from Java usage will trigger either a detection or an issue as you are seeing from antivirus scanners.

I'd suggest clearing the Java cache: see the attached screenshot, your version may be slightly different but you should be able to see where to look, and what to do. (The attached pic is from a slightly older version of the Java...the steps below are up to date, though)

Control Panel> (Switch to Classic View)> open Java

Find the Settings tab/button, and open that...then find the Delete Files button and click that.
It's just deleting the temporary files left from Java applet usage.

Then, after clearing the cache, run your scan again and see if it works correctly.

I am running Windows 10 an using MS Office 2010 to scan and store my photos of cards to sell on eBay. Lately my screen freezes up when I try to "save as". I see a little message stating "MS Office 2010 not responding" as if I didn't know it. LOL Can you suggest any help for me?

If you are scanning with a scanner then it would be better to scan to PDF then to Office 2010. Office 2010 as you know is getting on a bit so might not be very compatible with Windows 10.

I'm having a problem with wireless scanning, which I think may be a wireless networking issue.

For about 18 months, I've been using Quicken with two HP Photosmart all-in-ones - a 6180 and a 7280 - in Windows 7. (Quicken allows you to scan documents and attach them to individual transactions.) I recently had to replace the older of the two, the 6180. I tried four devices - an Epson, a Canon and and two HP's - and found that none of them worked with Quicken wirelessly. With other software - PaperPort, MS Office Scanning - I had mixed results.

As they all had their problems, I decided to keep the device I liked best, the Canon Pixma MX882. One of the reasons is that it has a duplexing ADF; also, I found their tech support to be slightly more responsive than Epson's, and HUGELY more so than HP's (which should come as no surprise). In fact, one of Canon's senior tech people spent an hour and a half with me, but he couldn't get it to work.

Here's where I am now - I can only use Quicken with the device through a wired connection, and then only with the WIA driver. I can use the Canon driver (which allows me to use the duplexer) with PaperPort and MS Office, but, again, only wired.

The Canon tech felt it was most likely a Windows 7 security or permissions issue, but couldn't suggest how to get around it. The odd thing is that the older HP's have worked fine (the 7280 continues to do so). I remember when wireless scanning first... Read more

I hope this is the place to post this question. The digital photography/imaging was a possibility but was not sure.

I am running Windows XP - Home. I received an HP Scanner/Printer for Christmas and yesterday I scanned in some medical reports for my mother. I then e-mailed them to her for her records.

The problem comes in when I view them on my computer the resolution is horrible. It looks very blurry. When I printed a copy out from her computer - it came out of the printer real fuzzy and not crystal clear like the original report from the doctor.

How do I rectify this problem?

I use a Lexmark X6170 for scanning. If I use tif as the setting for the fileformat there is always ONLY 1 page scanned instead of multiple pages that are ready to be scanned via the document feeder.

I have created a very simple DLL in C# that scans (TWAIN) and saves the image to a temp file form which I read into a Picturebox.

When I use the DLL in a Windows form, it works perfectly. when I use it in an HTML page, the page scans but then everything hangs. The image is not saved to a temp file and nothing is rendered. Since it is only happening in IE, it seems to an issue with security.

I've used Avast! for at least 2 years. Beginning 2 weeks ago, I started getting the message "Some files could not be scanned" at the end of a scan. Looking at the log revealed that all the unscanned files are in the system restore folder (C:\System VolumeInformation\_restore\. . .). The error message on each file is "Error: Archive is password protected (42056)". It repeats for EVERY file in the folder, including .png, .js and .gif files as well as the actual RP files.

I tried turning system restore off, which zaps all the restore points, rebooting, then creating a new, single restore point and running a Quick Scan. Did not solve the problem; every file in the folder is still "off limits" to Avast! EXCEPT when I do a boot-time scan (which runs before Windows loads).

Posted the problem on Avast's forum, but got no explanation. I realize it does not mean anything is infected, and it's not critical that Avast be able to scan the RPs, but the fact that it started doing this on 11/14 and now does it for every scan signals that something in the OS or in Avast has changed. Or might this have something to do with the fact that I have SpywareBlaster, a program that "immunizes" some registry items so spyware can't alter them (most HOST files)? Could the last update for that program have contained a change where it now immunizes the RPs?

Anybody have a clue as to what has happened here?

Hi All,

I have a question about a recent Nmap scan I tried doing. The network I am trying to scan is .. (25 bit mask?)
I invoke a nmap using using nmap -sL It goes through hosts 128-255 but doesn't detect any as being 'up' or reverse their hostname. I do this all time with other subnets. Does anyone know if I am scanning the network wrong? I can ping a random host on this subnet just fine.. Any ideas??

Hi, folks.

Installed the Epson WF 4740 All-in-on printer last week, added to my home wireless network and it is working fine for printing from all three laptops on the network. Copying and scanning at the printer are working as well. Also scans successfully to a USB key inserted at the printer.

Problem: Menu has option to send scan to a PC on the network. Says Document Capture Pro software must be installed to do this, which it is. But when I try to do this, menu shows "Cannot find computer". The menu has another dropdown to select a job, once the computer has been selected, and on my PC I have a couple saved jobs (scanner settings), but the printer won't detect them. I suspect if it would find my computer on the network, I could select one of my saved jobs, and the scan would end up on my computer.

I can, however, trigger a scan using the Document Capture Pro software on the laptop, and it works fine, including the scan winding up on my PC. However, if my PC is in another room, I have to go to the printer to insert the original, then go back to the PC, start the scan, than go back to the printer to grab the original.

Called Epson tech support, went through the usual steps the "tech" was reading off a script. Finally put me on hold, talked to "senior tech", said I need to make sure port 2968 is open on my wireless router, as this port is used by the printer.

I have a multifunction printer cx11nf (printer, scanner, copier, fax) when i installed this printer on my computer was working good. but recently in december 2009, the multifunction had a problem (i don't know what happened) but the problem is that when i try to scan from my computer the status bar of the scanning software do not move and the page on the printer pass through ADF very fast and the image never load the status bar of the scan software never move, in addition below the status bar says it will take 1 hour to load the image. this multifunction use tcp/ip protocol, i used the scan thought network.

i'm running windows vista home premiun.

Can anybody help me with this problem.

Issue: Accessing a printer on a Win XP computer host PC with a Win 7 x64 PC.
Error message: Windows cannot connect to the printer.

Printer installed on Win XP computer, working fine.
Both machines powered on.
Printer shows as shared in printer properties in Win XP.
Windows Firewall on with exception for Local Area Connection on XP PC.
Access Computer>Network on Win 7 x64 PC, can see Win XP PC and attached printer on the network.
Try to access printer, searches for driver and cannot find it locally or on Windows Update.
Copy Canon install folder to to Shared Documents on Win XP PC and try entering that as location, pointing to S630.inf file.
Error message as above.

Any solutions for this?

I purchased this lovely 4 in 1 printer about 3 months ago. Since, we have developed a love/hate relationship with one another.... About a month ago every other time I would try to print something I would get an error message that said "More than one ink tanks of the same color are installed." So I would open the lid pop out the yellow inkjet replace it and all was well. Thing is there is only one of said ink tanks installed. Well now I can't print anything. I have since replaced all the ink tanks and have triple checked to make sure that I bought the right ones for this printer. I also changed my settings so that everything I print is in black ink...same issue. I seem to have misplaced the manual that came with the printer, since our cross country move. Anyhow. Any ideas?
