I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My internet will just drop out briefly so that whatever I am doing on the internet will stop working, for example streaming a video, it will play fine, until two minutes in it stops, I then have to reload the page to continue playing. This happens over and over very regularly until I decide to turn off my computer. The only exception is Skype; I can be in a call with someone whilst playing a video, the video will stop but I am still chatting with the person on Skype.

Although my internet speed is not the greatest it should not just drop out every 2minute interval. It is a home internet so there are various things using it. It is only a recent problem and would love to fix it

If anyone can help it would be great, thank you for your time.

Hey sorry if I mess something up I'm new.

anyway for most of the day my internet has this pattern of dropping out for half a second or longer every few seconds. This happens on all my devices, and the router is only three months old. I've phoned my provider and they seem to think that I'm overloading my internet but that can't be the case as the disconnections are independent to the times that I'm using it. Every once in a while (more rarely) it drops out completely maybe for a minute or two to fifteen or so minutes which I could understand as overloading it, (though I still don't think it is) but there's no way to explain these smaller drops in my internet?..

I've attached a picture of me pinging google which shows the random delays in response. My plan's download speed should be 10mbps.

Thank you very much for the help!

I have a friends laptop who was having trouble connecting to the internet. She has consistently excellent wireless connection, but after just a minute or less the internet stops working. The excellent signal strength never goes away and it says connected, but you can't do anything that requires an internet access. After lots of playing with the problem I even tried to do a fresh install of her Windows XP, but I got an I/O error and even after changing BIOS to boot from CD/DVD I couldn't get the Windows install to go.

I also took the laptop home to my network that works perfectly and have multiple other computers running on it. With the laptop it does the same thing it did on her network.

Any suggestions?

A:Wireless says connected but drops after seconds of use.

Service Pack 3? Latest wireless driver (from the laptop manufacturer's site if an integrated adapter)?

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the machine?

How does it work with an ethernet connection?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I am getting mad... any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a laptop acer 4810TZ with an intel 1000 BGN wireless adaptor. Every now & then, specially when I am using VNCViewer to connect to a remote host, the connection hangs, and the session is interrupted. Immediately after, it can be restarteD.

When I connect via wire ethernet, or via a USB wireless stick (RT73), no issues. The remote host is connected to my lan (via the ISP router).

I've tried quite some tweaks (no dhcp, no ipv6, google dns, security type from wpa tkip to aes, etc...), no joy. I've even installed in dual boot ubuntu, no issues with the adater then.

Acer does not supply any newer drivers....

A ping -t shows that once in a while, the connection goes bad, then restarts

Any clues as how to diagnose this ?

A:Wireless connections drops a few seconds every now & then

Some possible causes are large distances between the laptop and the router, multiple walls and other obstacles between the laptop and the router, and other devices(cordless phone, microwave oven, etc.) using the same frequency(2.4 GHz) as the router.
The 1st 2 may be solved by installing an external antenna on the router(assuming it will accept an antenna).
The 3rd may be solved by switching the router to a 5 GHz frequency(assuming it has this capability).

I have a rather annoying issue and i'm stuck trying to find a solution. My D-link Ac1900 wifi adapter keeps losing connection to my router every 10 seconds, I have tried many solutions to try and fix this from,
unplugging and restarting my pcrolling back the driving and updating themexchanged the device for a new replacementupdating the motherboard biosun checking the power setting to stop the device from being turned

but still nothing fixes the issue, take note that this only occurs on my pc which is brand new, works fine on my laptop doesn't drop out every 10 seconds.

Would anyone have any idea or have the same issue with a solution to the problem.

We have three computers using a home wireless network, and all work relatively well. I just added a fourth - a Dell 5100C with an upgraded VGA card connected to a TV. This machine had gotten a lot of use but was on a shelf for a while. Now, however, it locates the home network only manually and maintains a connection or a matter of seconds. Any ideas what might be going on?

Recently, I switched ISPs from Fios to Comcast and I've been having more consistent issues with my internet on a wired connection. On Fios, the internet was completely stable, but with Comcast the internet randomly drops for a few seconds at a time. It can be fine for hours, then go out 5 times in the next 10 minutes. Just to be clear, when I say the internet drops, all of the lights on the router remain lit indicating the connection is fine, but my computer loses the connection.

With that being said, I'm not sure if it's directly related to switching ISPs. A comcast tech has said that signal levels are fine and the wiring shouldn't be an issue either.

Also, I haven't been able to confirm this, but the issue might be isolated to the computer that is on a wired connection. I can't seem to recall having any issues on devices connected via Wifi. Basically, the connection might be perfectly fine, but something may have happened on my computer recently that has caused these issues. However, I've ran scans to check for viruses, but they have all came back clean.

Are there any troubleshooting steps I can take to narrow down the specific cause of this issue.

So, most of the time my ping (to my ISPs server) is ~15ms, when I upload/download it changes etc., but, I've noticed that when I use the internet I get disconnection spikes (highly noticable when playing League of Legends or doing anything that needs a constant connection). These disconnection spikes happen more frequently when there's an active connection (something's being downloaded/uploaded, eg. a game running).

I have figured out it isn't any of the routers causing the issue with tracert and pinging. (I pinged the first router, the 2nd and then only the IP to my ISP started having issues.)

This didn't always happen, but it does happen on WinXP and Win8 and my Android tablet.

Any tips? (And I know I should contact my ISP, but I like knowing how to deal with stuff myself.)

Thanks. :]

Hello all and thanks in advance for any help.

My problem is that my internet will randomly drop sometimes 1 to 5 times a day and stay off for 5-20 seconds then come back on. I have dsl and im using a Westell modem. I will post some of my system info below. Anything else you need just ask.

If you mean that the modem is dropping the connection to your ISP, and your ISP supplied the modem, then call their tech support--the problem is all their's unless you have poor phone wiring. Otherwise, what do you mean?

New laptop, connected to my home network which is very stable and has no history of connection issues. After about 10 seconds the laptop drops the connection. Sometimes it'll come back for a while sometimes not, haven't observed any pattern in this yet

All I've done since starting the computer for the first time is installed all the junk that comes with it (Nero stuff mostly) and installed all windows updates (there were over 60 of them) and AVG Free edition. Before doing all that the connection was still not right but it did hold for a lot longer than 10 seconds. It held for over an hour downloading programs like Itunes, AVG and Firefox

Going to control panel > network sharing centre when the connection is down I see the yellow exclamation mark between my computer and my network. Troubleshooting this resets the network adapter, gives me the error 'The default gateway is not available' and says that it is fixed. The connection then works again for about 10 seconds and drops once more.

From setting up the network I think the default gateway is the router IP address?

The internet on the other computers on the network (one desktop one laptop) is fine and uninterrupted

I can't get the connection to hold for long enough to download SysInfo but this is the laptop:

Any advice/ideas appreciated!

xirrus would be worth posting a screen shot

in the meantime - try google open dns and see if it makes a difference

Theres also a link on how to setup those DNS IP address

Then once you have set up those DNS entries

would you post the following tests when its working OK and then repeat ALL the tests when it disconnects and make sure you also tells which tests posted are for what condition

if you are also connected by wireless include the xirrus screen shots

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if separate, the make and exact model of the modem

Also please make a note of the status of the light on the modem and on the router when working normally - post back here and then when disconnected post the status of the lights here again if changed

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

I have an Alienware M14x, Windows 7 and Killer Wireless N1202 Wireless Adapter. My issue is that I'll be on a game server humming along just fine (lets say Minecraft for now) when all of a sudden I notice that I haven't been getting connection for about 7 seconds then. Once its over everythings okay. However, it happens almost once every minute and it lasts for much longer at times resulting in my getting kicked for no response. It doesn't hamper normal browsing but its an obvious pain for gaming. I solved it once before, a while back, but its come back in its original form. I couldn't find the method I used before. All I remember is reading a forum that said to uninstall something from my Device Manager that Windows had added in and once I did it worked beautifully. I think it might have cropped back up in an update or something. But I have tried renewing my IP, turning off power saving on my network adapter, restarting everything, but I can't find that utility to uninstall nor the forum I saw. I could really use some help here...

Hi all,

Seems we had a bit of a thunderstorm here last night while I was gone and now my monitor is acting freaky. Here's the scenario:

I came home this morning, everything was off. I powered up the system, everything functions normally. All the noises are their happy selves, the monitor lights up, begins displaying the normal series of graphics/text and whatnot..

After about 30 seconds or so, however, the Monitor drops back into "standby" mode.. like it's not getting a video signal.. (screen goes black, power LED switches from green to amber) The computer, however, is still running, making all its happy whirring noises, etc.

I press the power button on the monitor. The monitor powers down. I press the power button again, and the monitor comes back to life, with full display, no distortion, no problems.... for about 4 seconds, then drops back to "standby".

repeated pressings of the power button produce the exact same result. If it let it sit a while turned off it will last 30 seconds or so of full display before dropping to standby.. if I immediately cycle the power after it shuts off, the display will only last for 3-4 seconds.

This *appears* to be a monitor issue... the rest of the tower acts like everything is happy. (I'm actually currently downloading a bunch of stuff on that machine with the quirky monitor hooked up to it right now) Everything was working fine yesterday when I left.

My computer has been appearing to freeze for 1 to 2 seconds. Investigation reveals:-
Disk queue length for Seagate drive (platter) goes to 1 or 2 at start of event, and stays there for duration
Disk I/O for Seagate drive ceases completely during event
CPU enters C1 state
CPU core voltage drops to 0.8V (part of being in C1 state)
VCC stable
CPU temperature stable and well within limits
CPU Interrupt time drops to zero
Graphics card goes into idle (even if it happens in the middle of a graphics intensive game)

Tests so far:-
chkdsk - all ok
Intel processor diagnostic - all ok
Seagate diagnostic tools - all ok except if the event occurs during the test, then the program itself crashes and doesn't give a result
Hardware monitoring - all ok
Ran perfmon through a couple of the events, reported OK

I am having trouble separating cause and effect. It is as if the system, no matter how busy it is, just decides to have a sleep for a couple of seconds. I initially suspected hard disk, but that could just be a symptom.

All has been fine for 2 years up until a month or so ago, system is 2 years old.

Any thoughts?

A:Computer drops into idle (C1) state for 1 to 2 seconds, then recovers

Fixed. Took a punt, cloned and replaced the Seagate hard drive - all is now as good as new. Not enough wrong with it to fail chkdsk obviously, but enough to create instability.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to look at this post. Anyway, I'll get right to the chase, just recently I have purchased the Motorola SB5120 modem and the Linksys WRT546 router, the reason being is because my old modem was extremely out-dated and we needed an easier way to connect my two other computers. All has been working fine until this past week or so, and it seems that my modem just likes to go into a standby state, by itself, from 11 a.m. until 8-9 p.m. central. This will occur regularly about every 5 minutes to an hour for the entire day, the "standby" mode will last for only about 10 seconds, usually just long enough to kick me off from whatever I may be doing at the time. The modem says its working fine though, and even the Cox guy said it was running at optimal performance. At first I believed it to be just some minor difficulties with the network I setup for my family, but that wasn't the case. I've tried resetting everything and just starting from scratch but nothing works. We called the Cox Support team, again, and again, I was told to reset everything. If anyone has any solutions, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi. I have TWO Dell Inspiron 15 laptops that are set up just about the same regarding hardware and software. I also have a HP G7 laptop. I have a Belkin AC1200FE router that has a USB port to plug in a printer so I can print from any computer on my network. All you need to make it all work, seamlessly, is an application called USB Control Center distributed by Belkin, as well as printer drivers installed on each device you want to print from. The program will make a connection to the printer so the computer can print documents. Then, the connection is dropped after x seconds of inactivity to allow for other computers to make a connection for printing. Sounds nice, right?

Let's give the devices on my network names, hopefully it all makes sense.
My Inspiron - Alpha
My G7 - Bravo
Wife's Inspiron - Charlie

USB Control Center - the program

So, I installed the program on Bravo, installed the printer drivers on Bravo, and was able to print a test page quickly.

I already had the program installed on Alpha, as well as the drivers, and have never had issues printing from Alpha.

Then, I installed the program on Charlie, and immediately I noticed an issue. The program is able to detect when printer drivers are installed, however the program refuses to detect my successful installation of the drivers. Keep in mind that Alpha and Charlie are the same machines both hardware and software. So, instead of simply installing the drivers, I went into the o... Read more

So I've been having on and off issues with my computer for a while that became really bad after I set up my XBOX 360 as an Extender a couple of weeks ago (I have since undone that), Windows Media Player started to regularly crash and I'd noticed that every now and again my network adapter would just drop the connection, only to instantly reconnect. Ran MBAM a few times over and used eset's online scanner. Spybot S&D and MSE as well.

Found a few win32/opencandy, a couple of listings for boaxxe.g trojan and BELIEVE I've cleaned it out. I should mention my MBAM is now the pro edition in an attempt to help with this.

So I've cleaned out several infected files over the past few days and I just can't seem to fix this last bit, and it's really starting to interfere in regular life.

A:Random FPS drops and screen freeze

Your issue is most likely heat related.

Boot into the BIOS and post the temp and voltage readings.

What program are you using to monitor the temps in Windows?

Install HWMonitor and post a screenshot of the temps at idle and under load.

If your temps are still high after cleaning then it may be time to clean and re-apply some thermal paste.

Hi guys. I've had this PC for a year almost now and it just started to freeze at random moments for like 10 seconds, but after that it return to normal. It can really be annoying while watching YouTube or something the sound gets really irritating. The picture stays the same, and after few seconds it just quickly rewinds in few pictures.

PC config

CPU : Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 2.5GHZ
Mother : ASRock P43DE3
Memory : XMS3 (DDR3 2x2GB)
Graphic : ATI Radeon HD 5850
Supply : CX600 Corsair

If anybody can help i would be grateful.... And yea i think (but im not 100% sure) the longer the pc is up and running the more often it will happen... And it happens while im watching youtube most of the time (or any streams). It doesn't happen while I'm playing any video games or anything like that (maybe it does but it is rare).... and it can happen while im on desktop just copying some files any that.

This issue just started occuring today and it has me completely stumped. As I recall, I don't believe I was doing anything out of the ordinary (browsing youtube and facebook) when my system locked up then restarted after about 20 seconds. After I booted back up to the log in screen, typed in my password, and hit enter. I watched the little windows circle swirl for about 5-10 seconds when it froze again.

Here are the things I've tried so far that have not worked. I booted up into safe mode and tried a system restore point. I tried disabling all the services and booting up normally, which worked but it was basically as good as safe mode so I didn't know where to go from there. I tried disabling all non microsoft services while in safe mode and booting normally but that didn't do anything. I tried running a windows repair from the cd and from the boot menu option and it didn't detect any problems. Finally I got fed up with everything so I fresh installed the operating system over the old partition. It did a first time boot fine, installed updates then prompted the restart. Upon trying to log in after the restart, it froze once again.

My gut feeling tells me it might have something to do with hardware because I don't understand how a fresh install could fail like that but I also don't understand what could possibly cause an error like this. I would really appreciate any help anyone could offer me because I'm flat stumped and frustrated .

A:Freeze about 5-10 seconds after log in

Scan with your anti virus
Scan with malwarebytes. Perform the long scan and be sure to update before the scan
Unless you formatted at the install

If these are negative, we will go from there.

The problem started since yesterday. I was extracting a rar file when it froze, so I restarted the computer and it only loaded until the welcome page and froze. However after several restarts and safe mode logins it arrives at the desktop page (with almost all of the files missing both in the desktop and my document however the files still populate the C drive as only little space is left on the C drive as before) and freezes after 10-30 seconds, while working extremely slowly during this time. I am unable to complete the system restore as it freezes by the time it reaches the 2nd and 3rd step of the systems restore.
I have also started to get a message saying srtsexcl.dat is corrupted please run Chkdsk.
Can anyone help me solve this problem? I need the files on the computer as I?m a student and they are weeks and weeks of work.
Many Thanks

Since yesterday, whenever I try to play the Harry Potter PC games, they freeze for half a minute, and then I can play for 2 seconds, and it freezes again, and it goes on and on like that. I never had this problem before, the last time I played the second HP game, a week ago, it worked just fine. But now it keeps freezing.

I re-installed a few times but it doesn't help. Does anyone know how to fix this 'cause it's really annoying.

A:Games freeze every 2 seconds

well, first check to see that you dont have any applications running in the background like: anti-virus, firewall, etc.make sure you have patches, if any, for the game and latest drivers for card. if that is not the problem, then simply check if you have to defrag your pc, then install again.(analyze it first you may not have to) start>all programs>accesories>system tools>disk defragmenter.(analy i had to re-install far cry, cause the first time i did install, it was all over the place, and i when i get to this particular place in the game it would not load up and just freeze with the sound looping in the background. unistalled, defragged, installed, got the same point again, and it loaded up; it was a cinema before the next level. anyway, hope this helps, or the very least think in other directions.

I have this problem & it is REALLY annoying me

In some games or graphical applications It freezes when i turn around, the freezes are random, but they last from 1 - 5 seconds.

I was told once i have this problem its there forever, but i have just replaced my old computer. It was fine up until about a week ago when it started
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

AMD Phenom II X4 810, 8.0GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM, NVidia GeForce 9800GTX+ 512MB
32MB Cache 500GB Hard Drive

My computer is kept clean (CCleaner) and Virus/spywhere free (Avast Workstation)
For my own diagnoses (it may be wrong) i used both Second Life and GTA IV, it doesn't do it in all games, the cutscenes in GTA IV didn't freeze until i pressed a few keys (ie W, A, S & D) then it froze once for a second, it hasen't done it again but that could be indicating the problem.

It is not my keyboard as I have tried several

Greetings All,
For the past few days my computer's performance has been pretty horrible; the instability is constant no matter what. The lag is usually 1-3 seconds but sometimes i've lagged in games for about 10 seconds sometimes. Even on the lowest settings possible on games that dont require much power. Allow me to list the things i've noticed and done to resolve this myself (not necessarily in order).
1. Ran full system scan with norton 360, combofix, & malwarebytes, not much of anything found.
2. Started system in safe boot, noticed the freezing and lag was still on-going.
3. Updated Intel & nvidia drivers to latest version
4. Disabled most of non-windows essential start-up programs.
5. Observed CPU temperature does not go above 45 C, even while gaming. Stays around 35 C when idle.
6. Blew all dust out of PC, off all devices & fans.
7. Ran registry cleaner of Norton
8. Defraggler says my main HDD with everything installed only has 6% fragmentation and is in good health status.
9. Cleaned all temp files and installed latest win 7 updates
10. Noticed spikes and dips in Disk's resource management.
11. Usually the CPU drops to 0% activity, even when running chrome and background programs & games, but sometimes it will jump to 100% or something ridiculously high randomly. Both cause system to freeze.

Hi there!
Here's couple of things I would like you to do:
- Press win+r, type in eventvwr and press enter. In Event Viewer I'd like you to expand "Windows logs" tree >> right click on an Application log >> choose Save all events as >> application.evtx . I also would like you to do same thing with the System log and save it as system.evtx, then .zip both of these files and upload them somewhere so I can inspect them.
- To make sure everything is ok with the HDD, download & install Passmark DiskCheckup and paste a screenshot from this application from the SMART Info tab.
- Clear CMOS with the jumper on a motherboard (please consult the manual of your motherboard for detailed instruction on how to do that)
- See if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your motherboard and install them (but clear CMOS before you do that, do an upgrade, and then reset CMOS again) [consult your motherboard manual for the instruction for BIOS/UEFI upgrade]..
Totally on the side, think of the circumstances when it all started happening, I mean if the problem came all of the sudden or if there was anything unusual before it.

my computer has been the same for about 2 months now, and has worked perfectly. Now since last night all my graphic intensive games like Warhammer Online, Dead Space and Team Fortress 2-(but only once i join a server and start playing) freeze a few seconds after starting them, and I have to manually reboot the computer by holding the power button down. Nothing shows up in the event viewer, also i have tried all other solutions i could find on this site.Tomorrow my friend is coming over with a different video card to check to see if thats the problem but untill then i was wondering if there is anything else i should do or check.

-not overheating
-scaned the hard drive with the drive fitness test from hitachi which is my HDs brand
-cleaned my comp with compressed air made sure there was no build up of dust or dirt
-updated all the drivers that i knew about
-scaned for viruses with Mcafee
-removed my ram one stick at a time, and each time checking to see if the problem presisted
-not overclocked
-Unplugged my extra CD drive, floppy drive and side fan to free up some power to see if that was the problem

none of these helped at all

This is being discussed currently in some different threads but rather than use their threads for my problems I thought I'd start another.

The issue is similar to most others: Games are freezing at various points for about 3 seconds(along with sound repeating), then the game catches up or continues like normal. Almost like lag but a complete freeze. I haven't noticed it on all games but a lot of them. Most noticeably on: Half life 2, Battlefield 1942, Anarchy Online, and Call of Duty rarely.

I've read all the threads but can't seem to get rid of it. I've narrowed it down to hardware because I have new memory, new hard drive, and not much software installed yet that might be conflicting and have not more than 24 processes running.

-I was thinking it was memory conflict because I have 512 2700 333mhz and a 256 3200 400 mhz, but then when i had both the same 256's in, it did the same thing.

-I have a AMD Sempron 2200+ and think it may be the CPU is overheating as I have it slightly overclocked at 1500. I would think the machine would freeze totally or crash if that's the case however.

Not sure what else to try. I even turned the Remote assistance off, which was the solution for another guy's similar freeze problem, with no avail.

If it is the CPU, I can't remember how I adjusted it in the first place so will need help with that.

Thanks all

This is a strange problem. I have Windows XP on a desktop. I have an external USB webcam (was Logitech Pro 9000, now Logitech C920).

The first time I use the webcam in any way (video, mic, etc), the computer freezes for around 15 seconds (sometimes longer, 30s, 1 min, etc). Then it works fine. However, if I've used the webcam recently, then starting it again (via skype or "Scanner wizard" works without freezing the PC.

To be clear:
-Using the webcam for the first time (since boot, or for the day) causes 15-20 second freeze of PC (no sound, no input, display frozen), then comes back like normal. After delay webcam works fine. During the freeze, webcam's LED turns on & stays on.
-If the webcam has been used recently, there is either no freeze at all, or a very slight one.

I've uninstalled drivers, uninstalled the hidden devices in devmgmt.msc (even the disconnected ones). I can't figure out why the webcam is freezing the computer, and why it only happens when the webcam has been idle for more than a period of time (can't figure out exactly how long it takes to "reset").

One wrinkle - I upgraded my motherboard a bit ago w/o reinstalling XP, using the method where you clean out all system devices, boot generic, and then install the new motherboard's devices. This could be interfering, not sure.

I'm trying to solve this w/o having to reinstall XP (which is a lot of time). If I can't figure out what's causing... Read more

I get this error whenever I come out of sleep mode but not from a fresh reboot. Only every time I restore from sleep mode.

The computer will freeze at my password screen for 30 second after I have typed my password.

Ok, so my laptop has been on its last legs for a while now, always something. Recently, the fan stopped working so I have to diligently make sure it doesn't overheat. I was playing an online video game 2 days ago when it overheated and crashed (forced shut off to de-powered state to prevent damage, not a bluescreen). When I brought it back up, I started having some really bad problems. The game I was playing wouldn't start citing "Memory at address 063eaff0 could not be written" After deleting the whole game and restarting the computer I got it re-installed, it works fine now, that's resolved, I guess.

I think this crash broke something though, because now my internet keeps cutting out at random intervals, and Chrome keeps freezing. The Chrome freezes actually almost always predict an internet drop.

So I booted into HP's system diagnostics and ran a memory test, it says I passed. Ran a full scan, hard disk passed, processor passed, WLAN passed, PCI Devices pass, battery pass, . Basically everything is passing but I can't actually complete a full scan because it takes 2 hours and apparently is really using my system to its max ability, which is making it critically overheat and shut off.

So I booted into a recovery CD to see if maybe a system file was corrupted during a power loss crash, but apparently I am mis-remembering how recovery CD's work and my only options are to restore to factory default or restore to an earlier point, not to just re-insta... Read more

Next step was wait for one of the outages and run windows network "Troubleshoot Problems" tool, it did it's thing and actually, miraculously, gave me some sort of real problem other than "Check that you're connected to the internet". Hi avi66,

Do you have a spare videocard to test on your computer? If not, you can try purchasing one and test it on your computer to see if the culprit is a faulty videocard. Make sure to keep the receipt just in case you need to return it. You can also try performing a windows check-disk repair and see if this helps out too. Good luck and hope you get your computer issues resolved.

Other items would freeze too, such as the wifi icon in the notification bar and gui items on my running programs.

Upon my searching for a solution to my problem I found that this website seems alot better than everywhere else for people who seem to really know stuff about computers to an extreme level.

So anyway...

As my title says games freeze on my PC or more often than not they will freeze and my computer will stay frozen and it won't recover. I just get like a screenshot plus garbled sound.

There are lots of things I have tried to solve this plus extra info:

Ran RAM sticks on their own

Used 2 different motherboards
Used different graphics cards
Used an IDE and SATA HDs on their own as main installation
Uninstalled, physically disconnected and disabled via device manager my DVD/CD drives
Ran without case fans
Used a different PSU
Setup my PC with my SATA HD running in IDE mode and also tried with AHCI mode.
Disabled all downclocking/voltage reduction settings in BIOS.

First of all, excuse my bad English!

Now to the question.
I have an odd issue with Windows Vista ultimate x64!
I have had this before I reinstalled vista but not this frequent as it is now.

The symptom is that everything freezes for a couple of seconds,The hard disk led turns dark while this happens. The mouse cursor still works but everything else is froze.
I can hear a click sound from the hard drive before everything goes back to normal!

Often when i try to access diffrent discs in windows explorer it take ages to access them!Completly random,Sometimes i can access them without any delay but sometimes one or two will take 10sec or more to show the content. Then windows explorer freezes but all other stuff works,i can start applications.

I have 4 hard drives installed on my machine, and I have tried 3 of these as C: but this issue has always turned up in Vista

I have tried Windows 7 and I have not had this issue in windows 7.However, it felt slow, so I went back to Vista again!

I have not installed any raid drivers,I run all hard drive as individual discs.

I have the latest Bios installed !
I have the latest drivers installed!
I have used Check disc with the repair otion without any errors shown up!
I have set all drives to use Advaced disc performance

I read your problem and the symptom that is the most troubling is the tick. When a hard drive is about ready to fail, it gives a clicking sound (the click of death). May I suggest that you go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer and test your hard drive. The first thing is to back up all your important documents. You do not want to lose that valuable picture of you during the best vacation of yourlife etc.

Hi, recently my laptop has been freezing every minute or so for a few seconds, especially when I stream videos. It's very annoying and I feel like its getting worse everyday. Videos will pause for 20-60 seconds but the audio will continue to keep playing. I've ran a full scan on kaspersky but nothing was detected. It mostly happens when I click a link or when I'm streaming a video, and also when I'm scrolling down a page. I ran task manager and nothing seems to be using too much CPU. I still have 403GB of space left.

My specs are
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB
System Type: 64bit Operating System

If anyone could help me solve this problem I will greatly appreciate it, thanks.

Hi, we have a bunch of computers(70 aprox) connected to a domain. Since couple weeks ago very strange issues started occuring, internet and network access(path to network share is lost) would come up at random times and on different machines and would last for about 10-20 seconds it would re-connect again.
All the computers are using private addresses.

Most machines are windows 7, some are xp.

Using Windows server 2003 as dc.

Since the occurance is so random it's very hard to pin point the cause, hopefully someone has come accross this issue in the past.
