Solved: Only sound but no picture from WMP 9

Q: Solved: Only sound but no picture from WMP 9

I am trying to watch some video clips but wmp shows nothing except the visualization and sound. I had installed the wmp9 codec but it doesnt fix the problem. Anyone has any idea how to solve this problem beside upgrading to wmp 10? Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Solved: Only sound but no picture from WMP 9

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Only sound but no picture from WMP 9

It would appear you still need the correct codec. What type of file are you trying to play?

hi,,been having a problem with WMC for the past 6 weeks,,it started when i swapped a radeon gfx card for Nvidia,,i uninstalled the gfx drivers first, then took out the radeon card, replaced with Nvidia, started the computer so that drivers self installed,,everything looked fine, until i opened media centre.

The first thing i noticed was the size of the player when opened,,it was in 4:3,,not 16:9,,and by this,i mean the actual shape of the player on the screen, not playback.I went into the settings for the player to try and change the shape of the player, but it kept going back to 4:3 shape.

So i thought to just ignore this for now and retune the channels, but nothing was found, couldn't get past the "no tuner found page,so after a few hours trying to get things set,i gave up,,uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and card, reinstalled the radeon, booted the comp, let the drivers install from windows for the card, thinking that everything would be back to normal, but i,ve had no tv at all since this date (18/12/2012).

I've retuned possibly 100 times or more since then, bringing different results every time,,sometimes finding just 6 channels,,sometimes 14,,or 50,,very random,,either way, nothing would ever show on screen when i pressed live tv,just a black screen with no sound.

I've also noticed that when i close the player after it found only a few channels, the tv dongle would light up,(not the usual daily update,as i dont get the icon in tray, whereas i do if the data is upd... Read more

Hi folks,
I upgraded my sony vaio VPCEB4C5E to Win8 choosing clean install.
Post upgrade I installed the free Media Center software for DVD playback, however it would only play sound and no picture.
After spending quite a bit of time in it's settings, I started looking at the drive : a Pioneer BDR-TD03 (a Blu-Ray RW drive).
The drivers seem to be Windows standard, but up to date. Neither Pioneer nor Sony sites are offering an upgrade to the driver.
To rule out Media Center, I installed a trial of AV DVD Player Morpher. It through up an error at first about missing components, but after some forum digging, I installed the latest GEAR drivers. Now it will play the picture - but no sound!
Media Center still the same.

So far this has all been on plain DVDs, not even bothered with BD yet.

Anyone any ideas?

Many thanks,

After installing Singles "Flirt Up Your Life" on my PC I tried to run it as I would do any other program...

It opens, the new screen pops up, but remains black whilst the music is played in the background... no graphic is shown

I've had this happen one or two times on past systems with different games, but am curious as to what it could be a result of...

My DirectX is fully updated... Windows too... I'm running with an ATI Radeon 9200 SE 128MB card because I'm not the biggest gamer... system wise I'm with Athlon XP 2800+ and 512MB RAM, plenty of hard drive space like 280GB with over 100GB free

Just to add, I've had no problems running the likes of Hitman Contracts, Thief 3, Battlefield Vietnam... all of which are recently released and I would assume to be more system intensive than that which I'm having problems with...
Help is much appreciated...

Hi my problem is that when i go to play DVD's i get sound but no picture.
The menu does come up however when i go to play it there is only sound and no image.

Computer specs:
Pentium 3

Toshiba 1800 series latop.
Windows XP service pack 2

At one stage one Dvd did actually play for a few minutes...and then didn't work after that.
I have ruled out that its the hardware...i believe anyway, as i have actually swapped out the dvd laser and chip from another 1800 series laptop.
I have tried using different movie players and all have the same problem, with no actual errors comming up.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am having a problem. I tried to play a DVD usind WMP and got only the sound and no picture. So I decided to try another way to play the DVD, I chose Power DVD and got the same problem. This seems like it is a software issue but I am not sure. I am running current drivers for my video card and have WMP 9.0.

This seems to happen no matter what format I use. DVD's won't work neither will any videos that I have.

Please help I am lost...

I have a strange problem when I try to watch video clips or streaming pictures on my PC.

When I first switch my PC on I can watch baseball through MLB.com perfectly and it will work fine for hours. Or click on film/ game trailers etc, no problem.

If, however, I try to watch pictures after my PC has been in use for a while, I get a black screen instead of pictures but the sound is fine. If I try to close the window my mouse pointer freezes for several seconds before the window closes and then freezes again for a few more seconds, then the PC works normally again.

At first I assumed that something was overheating but if I restart my PC after the problem occurs then it works fine again.

I have googled every combination of words / phrases but cant see anything that describes this problem. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Have a weird situation develop over the last few days.
When using YouTube or TVCatchup the sound is consistently early with reference to the picture. This started off as an occasional thing but is now becoming "the norm".
I can sometimes get the right sync but this entails rebooting the PC. I haven't installed any new software on the machine recently apart from the last round of Microsoft Updates and the Chrome update. Just to make sure it was nothing to do with the Chrome update I uninstalled Chrome completely using Revo Unistaller and re-installed with no change to the problem.
Just for the record I'm running Windows 7 32bit Ultimate on a Dell Dimension E520 with a 3month old nvidea Geforce GT430 graphics card. I've even re-installed the nVidea driver.
Any ideas anyone?

Hello everyone.
Got my new WIN 8 pc set up (see below). webcam videos (AVI) play fine. Digital camera videos (MOV) play fine. The issue is with MPG videos. They have sound but no picture. These are videos originally on VHS, burned to DVD and then copied to hard drive. They play fine on WIN 7, but not WIN 8. When I open them with WMP, I have sound, but no picture. When I open them with VIDEO, I get the error: "That item was encoded in a format that is not supported by your version of Windows." Do I need third-party software to view these correctly? Thanks.

Sound like a codec issue to me. You can try downloading VLC media player to see if it has the proper codec to play those videos or you can convert them to a different format (eg, avi, mov, mp4, etc) using a free video converter like Freemake Video Converter:

VideoLAN - Download official VLC media player for Windows

Free Video Converter | MP3 MP4 AVI 3GP MKV DVD | FREE Download

Good luck.

Ever since I had to undo an update made by PowerSuite, I have not been able to get any sound out of my TV connected to my notebook PC. TV Video is fine & the Notebook sound & video is fine too. I do not recall what update Power Suite installed. The TV plays DVDs from my DVD player fine - both sound & video.
I downloaded a driver update from PowerSuite and I found that it had installed Conexant High Def Audio ( Unfortunately, still no sound from the TV - same as before.
I have read a few blogs and all mention an entry for HDMI in the "Manage Audio Devices" in the Sound->Playback window. I have no such entry - the only one I have is for the Conexant driver.
I Googled Realtek (I have their driver on my desktop PC) but when I went to download the driver, I got a "warning, dangerous website" kind of message so I did not go any further.

I have a Toshiba Tecra 750DVD and decided to reinstall all the drivers since the notebook would restart everytime we would try to insert and play another DVD.

After reinstalling all the drivers and software including the Toshiba player no sound and picture comes up when we play a DVD.

I have searched the web endlessly for Toshiba 750dvd and only one website came up. The information wasnt all that helpful.

When I insert and play a DVD the light comes on the DVD drive and the DVD starts playing however there's just a blank light blue picture without sound.

I downloaded all the necessary drivers for this notebook, reinstalled all media software, and even went into hardware manager to remove the dvd devices. So I think the problem is outside of the DVD and media player hardware/software.

Any suggestions?

Hi donethetoll, and welcome to TSG.

You have not given us any real information to work with. How about telling us ...

1) Brand and model number of the camera

2) Did you shoot still pictures with sound or did you shoot video with sound?

3) If the camera offers recording with different resolutions and/or different file formats, what did you use to shoot the problem picture?

4) If the camera allows viewing the pictures on a screen built into the camera, are the pictures and sound OK?

5) Operating system of the computer

6) Name and version number of the software used to transfer the file from the camera to the computer's hard drive.

7) Name and version number of the software you are using to view the pictures

8) Are you able to download any other picture files from the camera and view them OK?
