I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here is my question:

are we able to buy a sli rdy motherboard but just use only one of the pci express slots and just invest on the other vid. card later? or will i have to buy 2 pci-express vid cards in order for the motherboard to work? i know its a stupid question but i need to know so i wont mess up or anything...also my other question is what type if psu should i get since im getting a sli motherboard? or can i just use a 450 watt psu? thanks in advance

A:Check these parts before i buy...

All those parts look good and compatible to me. I can't really advise you on a PSU though.

Edit: Go to http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ and it will tell you the minimum wattage for the system. Then go to new-egg and get a good PSU of that wattage (preferably a bit higher).

Edit2: It says 300 watts but I would get a 350 or 400 to be safe.

good luck

Please can someone else just check the compatability of these parts as im approaching the funds limit were i can afford them and need 2 show my parents that its not going to implode or other such unfortunate fate:

Case - Antec P180
PSU - Hiper modular 580W
Motherboard - Asus A8N-Sli Deluxe
Processor - Amd Athlon 64 FX55
Hard drive - Maxtor diamond plus 300Gb
Memory - 2 x 1Gb Corsair DDR400 PC3200
Monitor - Viewsonic VP191S

These are the parts im going to buy immediately, things like mouse, keyboard i have spair and i can get xp from my mum. . . the parts i want to buy later (after ive saved up again) are:

CD/DVD-RW drive - LG Electronics 16x DVD-+RW
Mouse - That logitech G7 gaming mouse thingy
Keyboard - Z-Board
Soundcard - perhaps Creative soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum but not sure if i want to spend that much

If anyone can tell me whether these parts will all go nicely together it will be muchly appreciated, any recommendations will be taken, especially if one or more parts are incompatible but i dont think they should be. Thanks for your help in advance and it should persuade my parents as there a bit apprehensive bout me spending so much money.

A:Please can you check the compatibility of these parts

The parts are OK, but I would get 2 x 160GB harddisks instead.
Getting XP from your mum is not... You need a separate COA and CD-key.

I am building a computer with a budget of $1000 or less. These are the parts. Would you recommend changing anything? I'm unsure if the PSU wattage is correct and that the cables would be long enough to connect to everything inside the full tower case. I already have a keyboard, mouse, and a monitor.

A:Please check if these parts work out

Nothing jumps out as a problem, although I would recommend ditching that PSU and buying a good brand name one like Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, Seasonic for example. You pay a little more but they are far superior in quality and capability, the actual wattage should be plenty, infact you would be fine with a decent 600 or 650w.

I agree with Zenosinckts. You can also save by going to www.directron.com or www.zipzoomfly.com. $20 on the hard drive alone. Shipping costs are also less... and sometimes free at Tigerdirect. We just received a big order today from Tiger. Free shipping at nearly $200 savings vs NewEgg.
The case is very heavy and too expensive.

A:Check out these PC Parts for me please im a rookie

I wouldn't recommend buying a new 250GB hard drive for a desktop PC. You can get larger (500GB or more drives) with higher performance for about the same price, or less.

For the RAM, get a 4GB dual channel kit (2 X 2GB) for the best performance.

If the system is for gaming, the Radeon 5450 is supposed to be pretty weak. Unfortunately, good, cheap (< $100US), gaming graphics cards may not exist.

The motherboard that you list is a good one, but expensive. You can get AM3 boards for a lot less money. (Avoid the ones with nVidia chipsets, which seem to be kludged up AM2+ designs.)

The CPU is OK, although you could get an X3 450 with a higher clock for only a bit more.

You might start here:

Budget System Builder

It mentions some additional factors, like cases and power supplies.

I also suggest familiarizing yourself with the "power search" engines at www.newegg.com. There's a lot of information there, even if you can't use them (they only serve the US and Canada) or don't want to deal with them.

Hi Guys,

Not sure if such a thing exists but is there a method to test all the parts/hardware of a desktop to check if all are working or if any parts need replacing?

Thanks

A:Anyway to check hardware/parts state?

Best way is to use a benchmark program to load system to the max and any imperfections will show up. One of them, for general purpose is Download OCCT - MajorGeeks There are also programs to test RAM, GPU, disks etc.
It's important to keep tabs on temperature and voltages during testing: Download HWMonitor - MajorGeeks
Use those programs sparingly as they extort a lot of pressure on the components by making them work harder than in normal use.

@bobkn ty for the advice on the motherboard i read up on it and you right they are just upgraded AM2 boards scammers

A:Check out these PC Parts for me please im a rookie---UPDATE---

I'm not enthusiastic about your motherboard choice. It's one of those quasi-AM3 boards based on an old nVidia chipset. They're basically AM2 boards, although they have been adapted to take DDR3 RAM. I think that you can get boards with AMD chipsets for roughly the same price. As you're planning on using a discrete graphics card, it may be well to avoid a board with onboard graphics. (It ought to work OK, but I've read of people having problems getting graphics cards to work in systems with onboard video.

The graphics card may not be the best price/performance choice. Here's a freshly posted comparison of many cards:

VGA Charts Spring 2011

SLI (nVidia) or Crossfire (AMD/ATI) means two cards working together. Higher performance, at the price of two cards. (In the past, boards with AMD chipsets haven't supported SLI, only Crossfire.)

I might prefer a Radeon 5770 to a GTS 450, if you're stuck on price. If you want nVidia, a GTX 460 is much superior to a GTS 450, at a somewhat higher price. (There are three basic forms of the 460, just to confuse things. The 1GB version has the best performance, at the highest price.)

You've picked a good power supply. Wise.

for those parts above a 650w power supply will be ample but i would firstly advice more then one stick of memory so it will be faster, if you buy 2 (or 4 or 8 ect) sticks of memory it will run in dual mode and if you buy 3 (or 6) it will run in tripple channel
Your graphics card isn't crossfire, it only says crossfire ready so when you buy a second one it will work in crossfire.

A:Hi, building computer, have all parts picked out, need help to check compatibility.

Yes, it seems good. However, upgrade on stock cooling for your processor, I suggest a Zalman, they're about 30 bucks and they're miles better and much more quiet.

Also, I sincerely hope that case does NOT come with a power supply; as ASPIRE is known for their junk PSU's, especially ones that come with their cases. Go with an Enermax, Forton, Antec, Ultra, etc.

I have two issues that I hope you can assist me with.  The first paragraph below is for the first issue.  The second paragraph below is for the second issue.  I appreciate any assistance you could provide.

On 4/2/2016, I placed an order for a new display back cover and a set of hinges in the HP Parts Store.  My HP [personal information removed].  Total order cost = $233.91 in US dollars.  I paid for the parts already via credit card and the parts were delivered to me.  A friend of mine repairs laptops as a full time occupation.  She was planning to help me repair the broken laptop hinge and replace the back cover so part of the replacement hinge would be protected when I transport the computer.  Unfortunately, my friend found out that her sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer after I received the parts from the HP Parts Store.  My friend has been spending lots of time caring for her ill sister and her elderly parents in their 80s.  She is unable to help me repair the right hinge and back cover of my laptop.  The parts have not been touched and they are still in the boxes.  I would like to return the parts and receive a credit applied to my charge account; however the HP return policy states that parts must be returned in 14 days.  The HP Parts Store also charges a restocking fee.  Can you assist with this return transaction?  I would prefer to not pay the restocking fee.

So I'm planning on building my new PC and have found a list of all of the parts that I would like to purchase. This will be my first build and wanted to check that A) all these parts are compatible and B) that these are the best parts I can get for the money.

To clarify I will be using the PC for mainly gaming and Photoshop/other design work. The prices below are the best prices I could find online too. (Budget is about £600)
Tower - Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case - £82.99
Power Supply - Corsair 500 Watt CX500 V2 Builder Series 80 Plus Power Supply - £44.98
CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K - £166.97
Motherboard - ASRock Z68 Extreme3 - £100.00
RAM - Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 4GB - £24.49
Graphics card - Sapphire RADEON HD 6850 - £118.40
Hard drive - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB - £61

Think this all I will need (apart from a disc drive) any other hidden costs/ parts that I am missing out too?

Thanks

Before you throw out your old, dead hard drives, dismantle them and recover the magnets inside.

Some of the most powerful magnets known to man are inside.

A couple of cute little motors too, but they don't like to come out easily.

I agree, just don't put the magnets together with your fingers in the middle of them !

The problem start with my wife's PC. It started a few weeks ago she told me. She can't open Outlook Express (doesn't start), access My Space or get updates at Windows Update. Also some images on sites do not load.

I then checked my PC and found, I couldn't access Windows Update, My Space, Thunderbird fails to retrieve emails. I have not noticed any issues with images.

Given this sounded like some of the behaviors I have heard of trojans doing I thought I would post my logs here and see if anyone sees anything out of place. Normally I wouldn't consider a cross contamination but about two weeks I temporarily set up a home network between our PCs to share a few files. The next day I disabled NetBIOS on my PC but as we are both behind a hardware firewall, I guessing if it happened it must have happened then.

Nothing jumps out at me but I wanted to get a second opinion.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, i have hp pavilion g6 laptop and its upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 then windows 10.  From last few days i was getting "Memory_Management", "Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error" and so many other errors with blue screen. Due to this i have to power off the system from main power button by holding for few seconds. Now i was getting hang problem. I saw in task manager that DISK UTILIZATION was 100%. I did a hardware test where i got below results : HARD DRIVE SHORT DST Check : WARNING HARD DRIVE Optimized DST Check  : FAILEDFAILURE ID: 9U3UWX-6KT85B-MFPWWJ-61Q003 Can anybody tell me how to resolve this or i need to replace the hard drive. -ThanksPankaj

A:Hard Drive Short DST Check : WARNING and Optimized DST Check...

Yes you need to replace the hard drive. Since you have upgraded to Windows 10 it is very easy to get recovery media directly from the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. For most people, the problem is not physically swapping out the hard drive, but restoring the operating system since they do not have recovery disks. Post back if you want a service manual and/or video showing the replacement, purchase options for a new hard drive and step-by-step for restoring Windows 10. We would need the full model...g6-????

Hi all

I have been trying to create an Excel macro that deletes only the check mark inside the check box albeit with no success. Is there a way to do this?? I have plenty of check boxes and it is taking me a lot of time to go into each one and delete only the check marks. It would be would be pretty neat to create a macro to delete the check marks in every single check box. If someone out there has figured out how to do it, it would be a great help.

Thanks

My daughter called me and asked what was wrong with her monitor. She said that when she starts her computer she gets this message "Self check, check your PC and signal cable, monitor is working" and no other display...

kds x-flat monitor, onboard video, XP, AMD

She has unplugged and replugged the video cable several times... any ideas why this is?

A:Self check, check your PC and signal cable, monitor is working

That suggests that the computer is not booting, or if it is, there is no video output.

The monitor is simply saying "I am OK, but the computer isn't sending me anything"

A simple check to see if the computer is booting is to try the CAPS Lock key. Pressing it will toggle the CAP light on and off each press, if the PC is running.

However, the system level Hardware Test before booting shows the following:Failiure ID is: 9PMPKK-5B284T-XD002K-60QS03Product ID is XG809UA#ABA  I assume the OS level SMART Test is less reliable, then? Thanks!

Not sure if this belongs here.

I've looked around in old boxes and stuff (cardboard) of my dad's and have noticed a whole lot of old parts laying around.

Instead of letting them just sit there getting outdated I want to do something with them, make something. Whatever but have had no ideas.

SO what do you people do with old parts?

A:What to do with old parts?

If they're usuable like CD-ROMs, floppy drives, hard drives - recycle them in new builds. Even older, lower capacity hard drives can be used as external drives with a USB to IDE adapter.

If not, sell 'em on ebay. That's what I do.
I used to run a computer salvage business years ago.
When I retire from the military in the next few years, I might get back into it.

I bought a Mobo/CPU/DDR Combo that I saw working on the shop bench after exchanging the initial board because it wouldn't boot or show video. But since I've had the rig at home, its been one headache after the next.

Here's what I got:
Mobo = ECS 848P
CPU = Intel SL7PM (BX80546PG3000ESL7PM)
DDR = PQI MD4412UOE (DDR400/512)

Now the ECS boots but the BIOS always hangs after I press Y at the Save to CMOS prompt (but stores the settings), so I've replaced ECS with Intel's D875P8Z rev 205. I got the Intel board out of spite for the ECS but now I'm back to the first problem, no boot/no video. This time I think the CPU and Mobo don't match but the info I get HERE and HERE lists a CPU called 3E (not Etreme) that has the same 800MHz/1MB spec as the SL7PM.
Do I have the right parts?

With the Intel combo, everything powers on but no POST (I think). There are no beeps but the light on the keyboard flash random patterns. Could there be a special P4 step I'm missing when installing?

Thanks

A:Do I have the right parts?

The power-on-but-no-post symptom could be remedied by powering the barebone up outside of the case. It could be a shorting somewhere.

Updating the BIOS of your new board may correct the wrong CPU read-out.

PSU, Mobo and Case must be ATX

Type of RAM module must be supported by mobo

FSB of RAM and CPU shouldn't be higher than mobo's FSB

CPU socket type must match that of the motherboard...

graphics card you want must also be able to be used on the motherboard (PCI-E or AGP, etc)

mobo and PSU have same number of pins (for mobo power socket)

Is this all right, or am I missing something else? Thanks!

I am looking for spring loaded push lock fasteners that are used to secure heatsinks and coolers to video cards, chipsets, etc. I am familiar with the following items, but I prefer straight spring loaded pins without the bow.

I am familiar with everything located here;

http://www.performance-pcs.com/cata..._in_description=1&keyword=push+lock+fasteners

and here;

http://www.xsfans.com/4pack-ziotek-...6.html?zenid=e601f24968cc7718e8d18c314b77cc3a

I know I can secure the coolers with thermal adhesive so you don't have to recommend that since I have plenty of thermal adhesive.

If you happen to be familiar with a company that stocks the pins without a bow, if you would post a link to the website it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Parts I'm looking for is new speakers, new mouse/keyboard, and a webcam. I'm looking for something good, reliable and does the job, some fancy perks would be nice, but nothing wallet breaking. I don't wanna spend $1000 on them, but preferably less then say ooh $300-$400 max, any less and it be better.. The ones I have now, are your basic Walmart bottom barrel ones, they work, but my mouse is already going out and my speakers sound like they're on the way out as well. So any advice, on what kind, where to buy online, so on and so forth would be greatly appreciated.
