Internet is slow on one computer, fast on the other

Q: Internet is slow on one computer, fast on the other

My dad is running XP and I'm running Vista. I have a DSL router on my PC, he has an adapter. Loading pages is fast, but when it comes to downloading, there's a significant difference. My dad's... plain and simple, is really, really fast. It takes him a minute to download say...20GB, and for me it takes hours, and then it terminates in the middle of it. According to Safari and Firefox, mine goes at about 10KB a second.

Preferred Solution: Internet is slow on one computer, fast on the other

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My neighbor is with Time Warner Internet and his speed averages around 16 mbps. Yet, when he tries to open a webpage or click on links, seems to take a long time to open, like over 2 minutes at times. His computer is maintained using CCleaner, Registry cleaner, MalwareBytes, Auslogic Defrag Prog., Registry Defrag and the Startup File, msconfig, only has 4 items checked off. He uses Avast as his anti-virus and that is clean. What would cause his computer to run slow considering his Internet speed being faster than normal? He uses Windows 7, with 4 GB ram and a 500 GB hard drive. He maintains his computer with the above mentioned programs at least every other week if not every week. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Fast Internet, slow functioning computer.

What % of CPU is being used when idle, and what % when accessing a web page? Because of all the programs you listed, I am guessing he has a lot of them running at the same time, probably slowing it down.
Also what browser is he using?

Hi, I have one computer with two accounts. The account with admin rights have a normal connection and the other with the standard rights have slow connection. I don't know why but it started a couple of days ago when the internet on the standard account slows down dramatically, where it almost seem like it crashed. The browser (Mozilla) is unresponsive but loading. This does not happen on the admin account. It load the websites like Youtube after a minute or two of freezing. I tried giving the standard one admin rights and this doesn't seem to fix the problem. I suspect it to be a virus but I cannot find anything with Norton. Help please.

A:One computer with two accounts; one has slow internet and the other is fast.

You could try removing Norton and going with Avast or Microsoft's antivirus. Norton always seems to do more harm than good and whenever I remove it from PCs they always feel faster and more responsive. Norton is over-protective when browsing so that is probably whats slowing you down.

Internet so tedious and so slow on one computer, but works perfectly fine on other devices

So, I did a DNS Flush, it worked for only 1 hour though until it started to slow down again.

I did those commands on CMD:

netsh i i r r

netsh winsock reset

netsh winhttp reset proxy

ipconfig /flushdns

It worked perfectly after for like 1 hour or so, and it returned to the same condition?

Cant pinpoint the issue here

I have a brand new computer I assembled myself with some of the newest parts available.
I also just recently got a new ISP, the speed is up to 18mbps.
My laptops are all connected through wireless and are getting anywhere between 15-18mbps while my desktop which is connected with an ethernet cable is getting around 6-7mbps.
I have all the latest drivers and did scans with Bitdefender and Advanced System Care and there were no problems with viruses/malware/etc.
Also, I'm not running any bandwidth consuming programs (uTorrent, etc).
I have 8GB of RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

What seems to be the problem?

I have a fast computer, yet, for some reason, with nearly nothing running, it bogs down to a crawl so windows don't even respond. I wait, and it's fine again for another 10 minutes, an hour, who knows. Then dead slow again.

It's driving me crazy, and I have no idea what to do to attempt fixing it.

I don't see anything in process explorer that could be the culprit.

Thoughts? Are there tools for scanning I should run?

Ive got ntl cable broad band, which runs into a Draytech vigor broadband security router, hub thing. There is one other computer on the network which when on the net, flies, however the other machine is painfully slow.

I suspect it is something to do with my connection settings, perhaps it thinks it has 56k connection, but how do I configure or test my connection settings to go quickly?

The last time I used this machine on the net it was in a different country,
on a 56k modem and using dial up. Any thoughts?

My internet speed is consistently fast (25-30mbps), but Chrome and IE sometime run slow sometimes. For instance I'll be browsing Yahoo fine for a couple minutes, but then I'll try to open another tab to do a Google search and the browser will stall for about a minute before loading that page. Or I could click a link on a webpage and the browser will stall and show a blank white page for a minute. Loading the content on a webpage usually takes close to the normal amount of time, it just stalls before hand. It doesn't happen every time I click something, but it happens often enough to be a nuisance.
Last night I went under settings and did "Referesh your PC" which is supposed to restore defaults and delete installed apps, but the problem is still here.
Here's an example: Everything usually stalls at the same time but not always. Just now, Gmail stalled for 2 minutes but I was still able to open a new tab and complete a Google search. However, when I tried opening a new tab and going to Gmail that way, that tab stalled too.

A:Internet Broswers are Slow but Internet Speed is Fast

I get that too sometimes, it is clearly caused by your computer (and in my case my computer) not your connection. I have ti with chrome but not IE, because i never open IE to check it. I have windos 8 so we have similar experiences in several respects. Mine haven't been as bad as yours lasting only 30 seconds or so at worst. I think this is due to large processes running in task manager and hogging memory/processor capacity. The only things i can advise is to: see if there are any large processes running under the details tab of task manager which should not be running, scan with your antivirus and with malwarebytes (there is a free version)to check that the cause isn't a virus of some sort, see if any startup items can be safely disabled (this can be done from a feature within the program CCleaner from piriform) and try clearing your temp files (CCleaner can also do this) and browsing history along with deleting any junk you have in the recycle bin and deleting old files you no longer need/uninstalling old programs you no longer need. When using CCleaner be VERY CAREFUL not to disable startup items without first verifying they are safe to stop (check google) and NEVER use it's registry tools (anything that attempts to "clean" the registry can damage your system). One other thing that might help you is disbaling add-ons in the browser and making plugins "clcik to play" rather than running automatically, doing this will mean there is less content to load so loading will be fas... Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

Was the computer working properly before this issue began? If not, when did the computer last work properly/?

What changed 4 to 5 days ago? A hardware or software install or removal? An update to W7 or a driver? An update to a program?

Please run this forum's system info utility & paste the results into a reply of this here thread.

Please provide your router brand, model & model #.

Slow? Which browser are you using?
If IE9, start > programs > accessories > system tools > IE9 no addons

Are these torrent sites? ISPs have recently been slowing torrent traffic.

Go to www.dslreports.com/speedtest & check your upload & download times. Please post it.

I have tried various things from forums on other sites and this site but it still is not doing the trickClick to expand...

A more detailed list would be very helpful so we don't waste your time suggesting something you have already tried.

Have you tried to connect / surf at a different location?

Lately, for some reason, my internet browsing and downloading is incredibly slow. Browsing pages is slow, youtube videos load so slow, and downloading from servers is slow, about 12kbps max. However, I know for a fact that I can achieve torrent speeds of up to 150kbps easily. And my browsing didn't use to be this slow, it's a massive decline from what it used to be.

I'm currently using a wireless router, netgear DG834G v3, and using optusnet DSL connection.

Another problem is that everytime someone calls, my internet cuts out and reconnects immediately, and I hear it may be because we have a wireless phone in the next room.

I'd really appreciate some help and if you need any more info or system specs let me know.

We recently rearranged our living room and I was forced to move my desktop away from the Coax connection.

My girlfriend also just got a laptop.

So, I figured the smartest thing to do was to set up a wireless network.

So now, my desktop is connected to the internet via NETGEAR WG111v3 Wireless - G USB 2.0 adapter and NETGEAR WGR614 Wireless- G- Router.

I am on Cox broadband. I am using Windows XP. The USB wireless is a mere 15 feet across the room with a clear line of sight. My network connection speed shows 54 Mbps with excellent signal strength running at 96 % strength of signal.

My girl's Mac Book runs great.

My desktop runs like crap. Page loading is slow. Streaming video is jerky. Streaming music is problematic.

The router has a firewall, so on the help forum's advice, I disabled the Windows firewall.

On the advice of another forum, I tried TCP Optimizer and things improved very slightly.

My average speeds, as tested by Speedtest.net are:

Download--12.6 Mb/sec
Upload--4.51 Mb/sec

I know very little, but that seems fast to me.

So how come my pages are still loading slowly and I am still having problems with streaming audio and video?

One of my favorites is Jango.com--I can listen to programmed radio. I never had any problem when I was connected directly. Now, pages take forever to refresh, and I get more errors than I get music.

Certain pages (like this very site Tech Support Guy Forums) take forever to load.

What can possibly be happening???

I have a router downstairs that is wirelessly linked to my computer upstairs (on the other side of the house) and I occassionally get a peak in download performance of 255kb/s (ish); but most of the time, it only performs at about 20-50kb/s.

I have tested the signal/noise ratio and it is -100dBm, which I am told is fine, and the reported speed is maxed out (54Mbps). Also the signal strength is shown to be 'Very Good'.

I do not have any malware or viruses on my computer, I can assure you, as I have recently formatted my computer and reinstalled windows, all programs etc. to start fresh after a spate of random problems. I might add that this issue was also present before I formatted my computer.

So, does anyone know why the speed will intermittantly change from high to low?

- Ollie.

A:Wireless internet either fast or slow.

Basic Wi-fi network troubleshooting

1 Right click your network connection and select Repair.

2 Change the channel on the router to something other then 6, which is the default on most routers.

3 For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Metal objects, microwaves and other appliances can all cause interference.

4 Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.

5 Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

6 Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available

I have Virgin Media cable internet and have had nothing but problems for months now. To cut a long story short I have:
PC1 upstairs
XP SP2 P4 1.8ghz, with belkin 802.11g PCI wireless card (using XP to control wireless)
PC 2 upstairs
XP SP2 P4 2.4ghz with Netgear wireless card (can't remember specs but it is a b/g standard)
Downstairs (about 2m away from PC1)
Ntl home 100 modem
Netgear wgr614 v6 router with most current firmware.
I have numerous problems, if it's not the PC reporting it cannot connect to the router it's the PC connecting to the router perfectly but no internet or it's connected but it's slow as hell Virgin have suggested all the normal things rebooting the boxes etc but I don't want to keep restarting the damn boxes! My neighbours had wireless for almost 2 years now with Virgin/NTL and he's never had any problems.
The upstairs PC can connect to his router fine (he has belkin mimo cable dsl router G+) and works perfectly for weeks on end. I have upgraded the firmware of the card AND the router and gone through most ofthe frequencies on the router to eliminate interference. The boxes ar on top of kitchen cupboards but not exposed to high temps or near to any pipes or metal ducting etc... On average PC2 can connect to the wireless box more sucessfully but being further away than PC1 (by about 5m) the internet speed is slower. Can someone help me PLEASE!!!!!!!!

A:Internet connection up/down/slow/fast

A dumb question. Have you tried connecting the machine that's next to the router with a cable? This will be a LOT more reliable as far as connections and speed are concerned. Also, not having two machines contending for the same wireless connection will give the remaining one more bandwidth to connect.

Hi all,
Im in the process of building a test Win7 box, dumping as much software on it as possible to check compatibility...
I had a iTunes x64 installer on a network share, which failed "Is not a valid win32 app."
So I redownloaded it, 93.8MB in 15seconds. Thats roughly 4MB/s. Decent speed.
It installed fine.

Next piece of software is a standalone, so doenst have an installer. So copy/pasting files from the network to C:\temp, Im getting speeds of 768KB/s.
Thought that was a bit slow. I figured it might be the server.
I setup a share on my box right next to my other box, and tried copying a 6gb .iso, also getting speeds of <1MB/s
Accessing share by IP and DNS name both the same result.
Both boxes have gigabit nic's running through a gigabit netgear switch running to a gigabit port in the wall.

So the golden question is, how/why is the network speed from PC to PC, Server to PC much slower than Internet to PC.

A:Fast Internet, Slow Network

It could be the storage medium. Copying from a PC to your PC could be slowed by various reasons
It could be that the other PC is busy with other stuff (other users, processes) and can't serve your file fast enough (low read speed is not an option for <1MB/s even with a lot of fragmentation)
If you transfer a big ZIP file your antivirus may scan it before releasing it to the application that downloaded it.
It also depends on the transfer method (FTP, SMB, SFTP, CIFS,...)

Hi I'm not a tech-y person so I'm just hoping that someone can help me.

I recently bought a new laptop it's a Lenovo G40

Intel Core i5-4210U CPU @ 1.70GHz 2.40 GHz
RAM: 4.00GB
64-bit Operating System
Windows 8.1 Single Language
I got home, downloaded and installed Firefox for me to use as my default browser. I got to use it for awhile (about 3 hrs) then I tried going on Facebook and it was taking too long to load. Then I tried it on my phone, it loaded faster than on my laptop. I tried searching (on both devices) random stuff on google (e.g. Miley Cyrus) and it took my laptop about 3 mins to load and my phone only took less than a minute to load. I did a speedtest on my laptop and I got 3.4mbps as a result (that's fast enough right?).

I really hope someone could help me with this because I'm currently student and I have a lot of requirements to do and I can't do that without a laptop and internet.

A:Slow internet on laptop but fast on phone

So, all 3 are on WiFi. Can you run a test with either of the laptops connected with an Ethernet cable and let us know the results? I suspect your wireless router has 802.11N, and that your phone supports it but your PCs only support 802.11G. 802.11N and G don't always play nicely together, and no 802.11G implementations is ever going to deliver 49Mbps of application layer throughput.

This all started about a month ago, i didn't have issues before that and nothing has changed (as far as my hardware goes). I am having major issues with mostly online gaming where people are telling me that i am lagging, but when i do a speed test i am getting 9-10mb download and about 2.1-2.5mb upload (comcast). I don't understand how i could be lagging with that kind of speed going on... does anyone have any ideas? i had a tech to my house to check signal, noise, etc. and he said they are all good.. I am at a loss, what else can i try?

A:Internet connection's inconsistencies (fast/slow)

If you are using a firewall, you may want to try adding that games ports to your firewall. Most games, I'll give WoW as an example, have ports that you can open to allow better gameplay. For an example, check out http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21015&rhtml=true?rhtml=y.

If you need help finding what ports to use for the game your playing, post what the game is and I can help you find them. Also, if you need help finding where to add these ports in your firewall, please let us know.

Could someone please help me?

My ISP is Videotron (I live in Quebec), and I have a D-LINK DIR-615 Wireless N. My internet connection is just over 10 megabits per second, averaging a download speed of 1150 kilobytes per second, which remains unchanged, (multiple speed tests, downloads and torrents).

About a month ago, when watching videos on YouTube, they started streaming at extremely low speeds, making videos that used to finished streaming in seconds completely unwatchable.

I have restarted my router, modem, Anti-Virus (with firewall - Kaspersky Internet Security 2010) and computer several times and it didn't help. The only thing that did help was plugging my computer directly into the modem, which returned the speeds to normal.

However, I have 3 friends, all of which have Videotron, but not D-LINK routers, experiencing the same problem. Videotron does not throttle, and I have not changed computers, routers, modems, operating systems, virus protection software or internet browser since long before the problem began.

Please help, I feel like I have a dial-up connection.

A brief, but specific history...Came to the end of Bitdefender 2009 subscription so I switched over to AVG and Zone Alarm. Also installed Advanced System Care Pro. Switched back to Bitdefender 2011 and uninstalled AVG and Zone Alarm. Been having problems with Firefox 3.6 page loading last couple days so upgraded to Firefox 4.0. Still slow page load, but I can download at 1.4 MBps. I can download Open Office quicker than I can load a page. Uninstalled Advanced System Care Pro thinking that was the problem, Not. Uninstalled Firefox 4.0 and installed Firefox 3.6. Used CCleaner to clean up after all of that. Didn't help. So now I'm lost and have created a Hijack log (Below). Any help is appreciated. Okay so i know this most likely isn't my internet provide. i have high speed internet from charter(i know they are not the best but more on that later) with actually download speeds tested online around 10-13mbps on average. i keep my computer pretty clean, running smart defrag, cleaning the disk, anti virus, only have programs running in the background that are needed, have increased my virtual memory and also use readyboost with a 4 gb flashdrive that i allow to use all the flashdrive memory as "ram" memory. so i think this has be something below the surface and that i cannot handle on my own. i do not think it is my internet provider because i have to roommates that have computers(mac... :/) and they have no problem usually with the internet. when i say usually i mean they have problems sometimes maybe 3-4 times weekly where i have problems at least 2-3 times a day. if you need any other information i willing to provide it or run diagnostics as long as you tell me how. please help me, i am not a computer idiot. i have a decent understanding and could really use some good help. thanks!

To be honest, unless your computer is running very badly it will not have a dramatic effect on the speed of your net connection. With having other people connected to the same internet connection the only way to run accurate speed tests is to ensure they aren't using the connection at the same time for any downloads etc....

I recently moved out of my parents' house and into my first home. I set up a wireless network using a new modem (Motorola SB6121) and new router (Belkin N300). According to Comcast, we should have a minimum of 12 mbps download speed.

At my parents' house, my laptop's wireless speed was around 18 mbps. On the network in my new house, I'm getting an average of about 1 mbps with the same Comcast service. My fiance's laptop is getting 18 mbps. If I plug my laptop in with an ethernet cable, I get over 20 mbps. At this time, I thought it was a problem with my laptop, so I installed the updated driver from HP's site with no improvement. I tried scanning with several antivirus and malware programs, also with no improvement.

I recently brought another laptop over to my house, and it also has a dismal wireless speed. Just as with my laptop, when changed to a wired connection, the speed improves to what should be my normal speed.

To summarize, one laptop works flawlessly, two other laptops are super slow on wireless connection and fast on wired connection. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I used to have DSLExtreme 18 Mbps, using Speedtest.net on ethernet I would get a steady 15-16 Mbps down, wifi was steadily 14-16 as well. I recently switched to Charter Spectrum 200 Mbps, and now I get 40-80 on ethernet and 11-18 on wifi.

All my computers are pretty old, all run Windows XP, I have a Dell Dimension e510 with a Pentium 4 & 1 GB RAM, Dell Inspiron b130 laptop with a Celeron M & 1 GB, Dell Latitude x600 with a Pentium M & 632 MB RAM, And and IBM Thinkpad t40 with a Pentium M & 1 GB.

Now I know that's slow by today's standards, I've heard many people say you can't even run XP with 1 GB. But I can play many games on the highest settings smoothly with the Dimension e510. I do a lot of 3D graphics stuff on it as well. It's quite powerful for it's age. I have a bit of a hard time believing that it can't handle a 200 Mbps connection.

The laptops are all connected by wifi except for the b130. I tried the Thinkpad on ethernet as well, and I get similar speeds on all of them for ethernet and wifi. I run a speed test once and get 86 Mbps on ethernet, run it immediately again and get 30 Mbps. Upload ranges from .90 to 12 Mbps. Wifi gets 11 down once, 18 down the next, .90 up the next, 11 up the next.
It also seems to run better when I have all of my devices connected and in use at once than it does with nothing connected but a PC directly to the modem or router.

I also randomly get socket errors for both download and up... Read more

Hi there.

So today my friend and I, who live in the same country, was downloading this file. It was around 6GB, which is irrelevant, but yea. It was from the same site, we have the same internet, yet he was downloading with 2.6MB/s while I was downloading with 1.338MB/s and it stayed like that for the remaining 40 minutes. Didn't even move at one point, while his went from 2.1 to 2.6 over 10 minutes.
Worth noting, we use the same ISP, he only have 25/2 while I have 50/5, and I could easily download 2 files with the exact same speed (1.338MB/s each), but not 1 with 2.6MB/s or more. There's also a client downloader, for this game, where he again got 2.6+ whereas mine always stayed at an amazing 80-180kb/s. I tried disabling anti virus, firewall, Malwarebytes, nothing changed it. I know you're thinking it's just the seeds or site that is limited to an x number of download speed, but it really can't be the case in this. It happens with every site I try. It's always at 1.3xMB/s and never moves regardless of how good it is.
I honestly don't remember, but I don't think this happens when it's a .torrent file, using programs like uTorrent with good p2p. It happens in all browsers, and apparently game client downloaders.
I can download 5 different downloads at 1.3xMB/s using all of my available internet, but when it comes to a single file, it for some reason, is impossible.

A lot of rambling in this thread, I apologize.
I'm not complaining about the download speed, but it ju... Read more

first off, here are my specsAMD Athlon 64 X2 5200M2N-e Asus motherboard2 gigs (1gig x2) Corsair dual channel ramNvidia Geforce 7900 GS 256mb PCI-EWhen I first built my computer and loaded windows, it worked super fast. Now, its slower then my older computer, which I thought was impossible. I mean...This is pathetic. I unistalled AVG cause there was a process running that is supposed to be a Trojan, and a program said AVG was running it. So, I deleted it, was prompted to restart, so I did. It took literally 10 minutes to shut down and restart. At worst, my old computer took 5 minutes. (P4 2.8, 1.5 gigs ram, ATI Radeon 9800). So, how do I fix this? I have a theory its Microsoft forcing people to upgrade by putting out crappy updates. I mean, for my card, the newest driver is dated the beginning of last year...They come out with a new one but its Vista only. Woo...idiots. So basically it started about 3 days ago, aprox. 4 days after this computer was built. I was playing Battlefield 1942, it froze. I tried 5 times, it froze in different spots at different times. I reinstalled. Same thing. Oblivion goes for about 30 minutes then crashes to the desktop. I then hit the window to maximize again, and it freezes. This has happened everytime as well. I also did older games, same thing, but done differently. Battlefield was the only one that froze the entire computer to where i had to manually shut it off. Then today I randomly check my processes, and theres 2 runn... Read more

A:I Need Help...slow Computer, Freezing Games, On A Fast Computer...(possible Trojan)

The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

I recently sent my computer back to the factory for a problem with it randomly turning off while playing games. They replaced the video card and maybe the motherboard and reformatted the computer and sent it back. Ever since, it has been really choppy. The choppiness is barely noticeable when you're just sitting there (in the game), but once you start running around and monsters start popping out at you, it gets really bad, and I know it shouldn't because my computer before I sent it in, ran the games perfectly.

My Computer:
Windows XP Home
Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz
ATI Radeon 9550 128MB DDR

Some games:
Warcraft III
Grand Theft Auto III San Andreas

I've already updated all my drivers, downloaded the newer versions of the games, and made sure not too many things are running in the background. Is there a solution short of reformatting my computer?

Please post your full computer specs.

Also I would find out what brand your harddrive is and go to the manufacture website to download a diagnostic program to make sure its not on its way out. Since you apparently already reinstalled windows (Recently?) and you say its still slow I would check for a possible hardware issue.

My laptop runs fast sometimes, and sometimes slow. When it runs fast, the internet automatically configures in the beginning of the startup and everything is smooth. When it is slow, it takes a while for everything to configure during start up. I do not think I have any malware, I have scanned and nothing was found. I have tried to do a defrag, but i only had 4% space available while it needs at least 15%, and it didn't free much space up when i defraged. I have used programs to manage the start up, I honestly just don't know what the problem is...

Part of the problem can be the lack of swap space on the hdd. There are two suggestions that I can make, the first would be to purchase a second hdd and transfer enough of your files to regain adequate free space. The other is to transfer files to removable madia, CD, DVD, flash drive... for the same reason. You should have your important files backed up in this manner anyway.Edit: Please use the following link to provide us with information about your computer so that we can assist you.How to Publish a Snapshot using Speccy The below is for those who cannot get online with the computer Speccy was run on.Please take caution when attaching a text file to your post if you cannot copy/paste the link to your post, you will need to edit it to make sure that your Windows Key is not present.

Wireless Connection (Router Linksys WRT54G2)
I installed Comodo's Firewall and during installation I accepted to install the Secure DNS too. Afterward I noticed my web-pages loaded slower than usual. They weren't extremely slow but definitely slower than what I've been accustomed. I tried some OPENDNS servers and others to see if it made any difference but it didn't. I also went to my router's setup page(( I could manually add the previously mentioned DNS servers. I finally decided to revert back to my old DNS list. To disable using the Comodo DNS servers I did the following:

Wireless Network Connection Properties-> Internet Protocol Ver 4 (TCP/IPv4)-> Properties -> Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

I also went into to my router's setup page ( to set my DNS list to zeros so that I can get back my default ISP's DNS servers (,186,187). However, website loading is still sluggish.

I thought the issue might just be a temporary hiccup from my ISP but my roommate doesn't have these issues. We tried a speed test at dslreports.com and the results were weird. On my laptop the results were 8500+ Kb/s with a 279ms latency. I was 10 ft away from my router. His results were 3000+Kb/s with a 11ms latency and he was 30 ft away from the router. Is the latency a major issue?

Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you.
