Win 10 Password reset now can't log in- Microsoft account/pin

Q: Win 10 Password reset now can't log in- Microsoft account/pin

I was stuck in a loop booting to safe mode. My user account is attached to a LIVE logon and a PIN instead of password. I followed a guide on how to reset the password. I did that but was still blocked so I was able to create a new user. Now I am unable to log in with my account because it says RPC failure. I think that's because it's no longer able to connect to Microsoft.

How can I undo this and regain my access to that account?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

Is there a way to reset a microsoft account?
Several times I have formatted and reinstalled and each time when it asks whether I want to use the settings already assigned to my profile or not...and selecting No...it still seems to be bring things over like the wallpaper etc.

So to be clear, fresh install....during final stages, it asks to create a login or sign in using a microsoft account which is what I do.
when I do this, it asks whether I want to use the settings already on the profile...I say no I want to set it up as a new PC and yet still wallpaper comes back (Sony vaio wallpaper)

I'm just thinking if the wallpaper comes back..what else does?
So I want to know whether there is a way (apart from closing the account and recreating it) to reset the profile so nothing is attached to it.

Thanks

Hello AJ,

You could remove your synced settings from SkyDrive to not have them available anymore.
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...-settings.html

To prevent this you would need to either turn off syncing, or turn of syncing for only the Appearance setting and any others you don't want to sync.

I've been using my Lenovo portable with Windows 7 Home Premium for about 6 months. I have never had a password on my account (I live alone). I was prompted this morning to restart to install updates; when I did, Windows asked for a password. I've tried all my usual passwords, including blank, and none let me in. Oddly, sometimes when I put in a possible password, the machine thinks about it for 15--20 seconds, then finally tells me the username or password is incorrect. Usually, tho, it tells me that almost instantly.

I've seen on another thread to use the Administrator account, but you need to get into Windows to activate that account. Nor can I get into safe mode, and system restore didn't seem to work.

It sounds to me as if your profile may have become corrupted.
I would suggest attempting a System Restore back to before the updates installed - it may remove the corruption.

Hi Everyone,

I have a laptop computer which normally connects just fine to our Domain. However today the laptop came up with the message "The trust relationship between this computer and the primary domain has failed". I have Googled the issue and quickly discovered a fix provided by Microsoft. The fix involves logging onto the computer using a local user account (as opposed to a Domain account), leaving the Domain and then re-adding the laptop to the Domain.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/162797

My challenge is that I simply cannot log onto the computer as a local user. Initially I didn't even know the name of the local user account, so to get around this I removed the hard drive from the laptop, plugged it into an external drive bay and using Windows Explorer discovered all of the User Profiles on the computer.

I now know the name of a viable local user account, however I still do not know the password for this account. I ran Trinity Rescue Kit in an effort to reset the Windows password for this account however unfortunately I can only see Domain user accounts listed in Trinity. If anybody knows how to use Trinity to reset a local user account whilst a computer is a Domain member can you please let me know?

Alternatively if anybody knows of another method that will enable me to logon as the local computer administrator please share your wisdom?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

A:Trying to reset local account password whilst computer is a Domain member

We can't assist you with some aspects of this due to restrictions in the rules about passwords. We most certainly cannot help with no allow any discussion of methods for accomplishing the task.

But, you certainly should be able to log on as local administrator. The password should be known by you or whoever set it up. It could possibly be a blank. If you have legitimate access to the machine, the passwords should be supplied to you by someone in IT that set this up or is aware of the setup.

How is it that neither you nor anyone else seems to know the needed passwords?

Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/W7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.

I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.

We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Trying to find the name of it. Can't seem to find it now.

Never having to do this with Hotmail I can only assume what happens. My assumption is that a temporary password is sent to your alternate account. Is this correct? If so, then that password still does not allow you to login?

Doubt that will be an issue. The security question will be asked and all you have to do is answer it.

I am a 87 year old who had his first computer, a Commodore 64, in the early eighties and have enjoyed computers ever since, currently using WIndows 7.
Having just bought a smart 'phone, I find that I'm unable to buy apps for it unless I remember my Windows Live account password. The problem is that I must have chosen a password many years ago which I have never had to use and have therefore forgotten.
So the problem is resetting a forgotten password.
I spent literally hours yesterday complying and answering the same questions again and again, giving my second Email address, date of birth and location, mother's maiden name and the subject of my latest private Email, only to arrive back at the original log-on window. Microsoft once sent a temp. password for me to enter, which did not work.
The password reset file I made in a flash drive was a .psw file which crashed Word 2007, and didn't work.

It is obvious that many people have had the same problem with Microsoft.

Can anyone help?

New Windows 10 Home desktop. I put in Carol when it asked who would use the computer.
After a restart, it showed Carol and Welcome, then I could just click on it and use it. The only user was Carol and no password was needed. That was OK.

Now there are 2 users, Carol and me. After a restart, it wants my name and password.
I can use System Restore to go back, but then what?

I want it to just give me the desktop with no sign on required.

In fairness, I don't mind logging in and backing up settings etc, but instead of my profile saying my username, it will say my full name (I fixed this issue). Any clues?

Yesterday I got a client's Lenovo Desktop 8.1 with a corrupted Microsoft Account Password only in the computer. The Microsoft Account signon is ok, just the computer has the issue with it.  I have worked on this problem for many hours, and with no success. The computer is a Lenovo Desktop with Windows 8.1 installed with an SSD and an HHD drive. There are no markings on the case to tell me model number. I also realized after awhile that you need to hold down the Shift Key when either powering off or restarting to insure a complete boot up.
1. My client apparently opened an email that messed up his computer. He contacted Microsoft and one of their technicians got into his computer. From that point on apparently the microsoft account signon password got corrupted only inside his computer. I can signon to his Microsoft Account, got microsoft to send me a code so I could reset his password. This worked on his account only. Still cannot logon to his computer - password failed - try again message.
2. I tried F1 - Bios, F12 - Boot Menu and cannot get past the CMOS password. Boot menu lets me past but cannot change anything - trying to change boot order so I can boot to Hirens. F1-Bios gives me a fatal error. I also tried F10 to change Boot from Standard to Legacy - F10 does not work on this Lenovo Desktop.
3. Pulled the Cmos battery for 30 minutes, put it back in and no change to the Bios password, still locked out of modifying anything related to boot order.... Read more

A:Microsoft Account Password in Win 8.1 Corrupted - Need a workaround

I am not sure how Microsoft got past the CMOS password. There should be a jumper allowing you to clear CMOS which would remove any password. With the CMOS battery removed hold down the power button for 30 seconds to remove any residual power.

The computer has SecureBoot enabled so no disk will boot even if you could get to the F12 boot menu.

I have Windows 7 so had no idea how screwed up this could get. I've googled this for 3 hours and the simplest of answers will never be provided. No one seems to be able to think thoroughly on this.

My 90 yr old dad has a hosed PC. It now has his login screen associated with an email address. He can't remember the password and trying to reset it with live.com also doesn't work.

Here's what we have:

email-address-user (Microsoft account) with admin privileges
locked out

If one resets email-address-user's password via live.com, does THIS AFFECT POP3 access? Meaning, is this password reset only for logging into one's PC or is this reset password synched with the actual email server one uses to download their emails? This WOULD be a very valuable piece of information but no website deems it useful. My reason for asking is I don't want to reset his password and then have it such that he can't read his emails. And I'm not about to try to communicate over the phone what he would need to do to update his client email (or internet access) password.
To get to the desktop, I tried a ton of things but the only thing that worked was net user administrator /active:yes.

What I would like to do is "revert" the email-address-user from a Microsoft account to a local account. I'm 100% game to edit the registry 100 ways to Sunday. TOTALLY.
I have to enter my damned password several times a day... really annoying.
Have you tried the netplwiz app to bypass needing a signature?
It does not work for me, but may for you...
Go to start.
type netplwiz and click on apps, see one listed, run that, UN check the box which says a password is needed.
That SHOULD do the trick but does not.

I think part of my problem is having 8 win8 systems at home, all with the same username... but you would think Wiindows 8 could allow a user like me to network with my own computers without having to deal with permissions etc... really irritating.

Well ok, I've been a naughty boy. My old man put a password on my account (which has administrative access) and so I couldn't access the system. After two months I thought that I would have to break in to the system with anybody's awareness since I missed my precious documents and wanted to surt the Internet a bit (ahh the joys off being a teenager).

So anyway, from an internet cafe I found a method...I clicked F8 while rebooting windows, entered the Administrator account through Safe Mode, changed the password for my account, and logged in. So I'm into the system (so SIMPLE, right in front of me, and I took no action... *smacks forehead*). By the way, sorry if I can't explain reasonably to the computer guys...Im as lame as I can get when it comes to computers.

Now to the chase. To make sure that this wouldn't happen again (not being able to access my computer account) I clicked on the option 'prevent a forgotten password' and created a password reset disk..so NOW, if my Dad decides to enter his "old" password on my account and the computer does not accept it, he will get that message saying 'have you forgotten your password?' and so, and he will also see that a password reset disk has been created. I could of course destroy, burn the disk and eliminate the evidence lol, but the computer (or my account I should say) kinda has "installed" in it the password reset disk for my account.

So my question to you computer merlins, is there a way I can... Read more

Issue
My brother has a PC with Windows 10 and two Administrator Users:
#1 User: MS Account (the main one, used by my brother)
#2 User: Local Account (Secondary one, used by myself)

Since the login page is usually bypassed in this PC via netwizpl setup, none of us usually need to insert a password at startup, but after a Windows Update the login page reappeared, and my brother can't access his MS account any more because his password is not recognized.

Useful info

It's no keyboard issue: the keyboard layout is consistent with settings and we also checked the correct password spelling with the "eye" icon
Resetted MS password, but no joy: we have tried to reset the MS account password. The new password grants access to the MS account at https://login.live.com, but it's still useless when trying to login to Windows with the MS account.
All OK with the Local Account: the Local Account still grants login, and since it's an Administrator account it still allows access to the other account data.
Haven't done a Restore (yet): An obvious (but not necessarily effective) solution could be a Windows Restore. I'll probably try to Restore a previous System State if I don't find a better solution, but I'd prefer to understand the cause of this issue.

This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I am asking this message to here, coz i want to Spread this issue around the world, so every user can secure their Data and also MS can rectify this issue by releasing an OS Update.

Thanks for reading ..

I may have accidently deleted my user password while trying to change my password. I have a usb password reset but when i try and use it Windows  says , " File type unknow , windows does not recognize this file type." The only thing they
recommend is to go to the web for help. I also have an Administrator account . Can i change my user account password with my Administrator account without using my password reset ? Also what good is a password reset if windows can't  open it up. Can you
recommend any Microsoft or safe third party downloads to open the "psw' file? I would greatly appreciate a reply. Thank you.

Afternoon,

Having recently (today) inherited my company's IT support role (Without any real training / qualifications ) I'm coming across a number of small issues, one of which is the following:

All machines at my company are independently managed by their own (local) Administrator account, across the board the Username and Pass to access the Admin account is the same... except for a single machine.

It seems this machine has a differing password to the other machines, unfortunately the previous administrator is no longer contactable, I however require access to the administrator account. To the best of my knowledge he didn't set-up a Password Reset Disk either.

I've read about various 3rd party tools which can enable the resetting of the Administrator Password but am loathe to try them without first hand confirmation of their validity etc (On my head be it and so forth)

Is there any method to determine what the Admin pass may be, or should I plump for a 3rd party tool to aid in the resetting of the pass? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for which to use?

If it makes any difference, the machines are networked to a Mac Xserve server - though as I understand it, I wont be able to access locally stored passwords through the server itself?

Many thanks for any light that can be shed upon this issue

Mike

Hi everyone and merry Christmas!

I followed the procedure found on the web, I entered "netplwiz" and did uncheck ?Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer".
There is no password set.
THere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator.
(the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)

the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon?
thanks a lot in advance

A:Auto login, one account, no password: avoid to click account icon?

Hello Lorcar, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Go ahead and create a password for your user account, then do the tutorial below again to enter the new password and set your user account to be logged into automatically at startup.

Log On Automatically at Startup

Hope this helps,

Trying to reset the password on and old C400, it is asking for primary or administrator password. I have no idea what to put in there, and can't see if  the computer will function at all!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

A:Need the reset for password on Latitude C400, bios revision A06, original password.?

You'll need to call Dell with verification of ownership -- it may not be worth it though, since the call will cost about $60, which is probably about six times more than the entire system is worth.
The other option is to replace the mainboard - which is probably well under $60.

Hello,
Is it possible to prevent a user from being able to use "Connect to a Microsoft account" from the OneDrive Settings under File Storage?
We are deploying Windows 8.1 Enterprise in a Corporate Environment and do not want to be able to connect Domain Accounts with Microsoft accounts.
I have applied the GPO Setting
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Options > Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts = Users cant add or log on with Microsoft accounts
However this has not disabled the option to join a Microsoft Account from the OneDrive Settings. It has disabled the option from the Accounts settings however.
Any advise appreciated

A:Prevent connecting Microsoft account to Domain account from OneDrive settings

Hello Lee Bowman,
Based on my test, I use the following steps to block the Microsoft account:
1. Open Group Policy Management Editor
2. Go to Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options> Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts.
3. In the drop-down menu, select Users can?t add or log in with Microsoft accounts
After applying the Group policy , I still can?t use the OneDrive to add Microsoft account.
When I try to add the Microsoft account, I will get the following message.
