Seperate Windows Account, Email Password From PC Password

Q: Seperate Windows Account, Email Password From PC Password

I found that once I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I had to use my Email account to Log In to my PC.
The User has to have a Windows Account (Mine is originally Hotmail - Live - Outlook).

I can not stand having the same Password and account info from my Email account the same as my PC.

I had to reinstall Windows 8 and then I was able to use a Personalized & Custom User Name & PC Password.

*This coincides with certain software I use when I install the same titles on multiple PCs. *(Serif - WebPlusX6 - I use a common User Name and file location).

***I will not tolerate having to be constricted to a Windows Account that makes me use the same password and user name for my Email Account and my PC.

*****Therefor, WINDOWS 8.1 is useless to me at this time.

P.S. I still get rapid boot times and custom features from Windows 8. *I assigned the Power Button where the old *Start button would be & pinned shortcuts to my task bar to navigate to apps I use frequently.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Majestone, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You can sign in to Windows 8 with any "local account" or "Microsoft account" you want.

You do not have to setup a "Microsoft account" when installing or setting up Windows 8.1. A trick to this would be to temporarily disconnect the internet when you get to this point to then be able to setup a "Local account" instead.

If you want a Microsoft account, then you could have two Microsoft accounts, and use one to sign in to Windows 8 with and the other for your emails.

Either way, you could easily switch to a local account afterwards.
Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8
...or switch back to any Microsoft account you wanted instead.
Microsoft Account - Switch to in Windows 8
Hope this helps,

Sorry if this has been brought up before. When I open my email account from my browser I am taken straight into my emails without having to put in my account name or password. I always sign out. I never check the "keep me signed in" box. But this invariably happens. Surely there should be some security measure to prevent this as it seems to leave the system open to hackers.

I have two accounts I access online, one provided by my Domain Hosting Service and the other on my ISP's site. The first keeps me logged in and the second requires starting from the login page but does always have my info in the dialog boxes and just needs another click. My Hotmail, Gmail and Outlook.com accounts keep track of me and go directly to my Inbox. I mostly use Firefox.

Outlook is hanging with a number of messages. (Various).

The issue appears to be that Outlook has exceeded it's 2GB limit so I'm trying to recover (trying various things) and create a new mail profile.
I'm using the Inbox repair tool and MS's 2gb truncation tool.

Anyone know how to save the (existing) email profile (Email account settings and passwords) so I can transfer it to a new profile. Later versions appear to have a Mail - export function but not these earilier programs.
I'm unable to get hold of the User and or their ISP until tomorrow, but I'd like to get it resolved today.

I think this may be a known problem, but I can't seem to find an obvious solution.

For various reasons I deleted my Yahoo account password from within livemail (in preparation for sending my laptop for repair and to protect my email account from any misuse).

Now when I re-enter it (and yes, the "remember password" box is checked) it doesn't get "remembered" and each time I check for mail (hitting the "sync" button, for example, I am asked to enter the password in a pop up screen. This is nothing more than an inconvenience as the mail syncs properly after the password has been entered but I'm puzzled as to why this has hapend and if there is a fix.

IF I was to delete the account and then simply set it up again (assuming the pasword would in fact be remembered ?), would the act of account deletion "erase" everything previously downloaded onto the laptop from the yahoo server ?

As always - any help or advce appreciated.

EDIT - well - whatever caused it has fixed itself ..........password now saved and "remembered".
Good luck to anyone who has the same problem, because I don't know what fixed it....

There is no legal way to "craack" a business computer, your IT has to help you recover your Windows. If this is a personal computer, with proof of ownership of both computer and of your windows, a local computer shop may be able to help you at least get your data files onto an external media if not able to legally run password-hunters. Otherwise, it is time to totally reinstall -- and this time keep a written record of usernames and passwords locked in a drawer somewhere.

All you can do is disable all the security notifications by going to:

Control Panel ---> Security Center ---> Check This Computer Security Status

Then on the left hand side click on "Change The Way Security Center Alerts Me" and then click "Don't Notify Me and Don't Display The Icon".

I think that should work for the notification you are talking about.

I am a newbie with Windows 8, so I am trying to teach myself how to use Windows 8.1 via a virtual machine on Windows 7.

I set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.

I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.

Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.

I'm sure this gets asked a lot, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

A few months ago, my mom bought a laptop from Dell. She set it up with 2 local accounts, with her as the only admin account, and now she's forgotten the password.

All the information I've found requires you to either have made a password recovery disk, or have a windows recovery disk. Her computer didn't even come with the windows recovery disk, so she has neither. I can still log into the second account, but it's not admin so I can't do anything.

Losing the data on the computer is fine at this point; she didn't really have much, and I can backup what she did have. But again, I don't have a recovery disk so I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks for any help!

I have a Panasonic FZ1000 camera that is wi-fi capable. However, I'm having the worst time getting the PC and camera to pair, as have many others. One suggested workaround was to disable "Password protected sharing" in the control panel's Advanced Sharing Settings. However, windows won't let me do this because (to the best of my knowledge) I would first have to remove the password from my Guest user account. I have tried numerous times to do this, but unsuccessfully. Here's what's happening: I enter the Guest account using its proper pw. In the control panel, I get to the "remove your password" screen. Here there is a field asking for my current pw. I enter the pw used to gain access to the Guest account and get the message that "Windows cannot change the password." BTW, "Password protected sharing" can't be disabled in the Guest account, either. Help please.

When I try to install something or try to change anything in my control panel it asks for the administrator password, but it does not display a password box and the only button you can click is "no". I've tried to do a system refresh, and start up recovery, but it asks for an administrator password, however the password I've set when I set up windows originally does not work.

This is a tough one unless you made a password recovery disk, had a MS account or have another user account. Ways of making another user account you will need a Windows 10 installation disk to boot from. Other option is to call MS or reinstall windows.

Windows Admin account and password security issue

I had a message today that a UK TV program suggest that all windows accounts should be password protected.

I also noticed that PCs are now often preset up , recently a ASUS system was setup - so that when switched ON , you do not have to setup - it takes you directly to the start screen, and with no user password

Most of my users are elderly and passwords do get them confused sometimes- so with new PCs , we tend to set-up 1 account , that logs in automatically and do not use a password
But ensure, UAC set any program trying to run will prompt for permission

Is there a huge security advantage in having a windows login - for a single user , who does not have any one else in the home and the PC does not leave the house .

I'm trying to find the program in UK that may have made quite a few people unsure of their security now.

I guess then a we should also setup a user account and not use the admin account, if we are trying to avoid potential malware using the admin account etc

Thanks
Wayne

A:Windows Admin account and password security issue

A standard account will stop some hacker/malware from owning the machine right off upon infection. But some malware will still function in a standard account.

Depending on whether your users do online banking and do online purchases, you might want to install some kind of anti-keylogging program to foil somebody capturing passwords and credit card info. I use Zemana.

i checked all the secpol 'password policies', and there don't seem to be any interfering requirements.

I've been using my Lenovo portable with Windows 7 Home Premium for about 6 months. I have never had a password on my account (I live alone). I was prompted this morning to restart to install updates; when I did, Windows asked for a password. I've tried all my usual passwords, including blank, and none let me in. Oddly, sometimes when I put in a possible password, the machine thinks about it for 15--20 seconds, then finally tells me the username or password is incorrect. Usually, tho, it tells me that almost instantly.

I've seen on another thread to use the Administrator account, but you need to get into Windows to activate that account. Nor can I get into safe mode, and system restore didn't seem to work.

A:HELP FIND WINDOWS ACCOUNT CODE TO CHANGE PASSWORD

where do i find that MS account code to satisfy MS, is it in her computer some where?
It's normally sent as a text to whatever cell phone number associated with the account.

Or a non-MS email address, if one was registered when creating the MS account. For example, mine can go to my AOL account if I want it to, say if the cellular service is down or I'm out of network range.

It will be a 4 digit code.

1. Get User password via Windows Password Hint
While you type a wrong password, the password hint will pop up below the password hint box. Based on password hint, you can think of origin password generally.
But the preconsideration is that you have set up password hint for user account password, when you are creating Windows system account and password. Besides, password hint had better can remind you and only you of forgotten password. The most important thing is that it couldn't like password, but has to be related to password.

As seen above, my password hint is email [email protected], and my Windows 8 login password is the same as the password of email. So when the password hint pops up, I could think of Windows login password instantly.
2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked account

Can someone confirm or deny that it is that easy to bypass someone's Windows user account password? If so, why even setting it up? It just makes life more complicated...

Also a follow-up question. If I use something like disc encryption (TrueCrypt), or Microsoft's own BitLocker, will it be as easy to get into my data too?

I do seem to have strange problems. Here's the story:
I have WLM & WM on my Vista pc. On my account it all works lovely with hardly any problems in one applicaton; open up WLM and my WM ([email protected]) is available also.

On the different user account, that is another story.
I can open up WLM or WM in seperate applications; open up WLM, close WLM, open up WM, close WM.
But WLM will not incorporate the WM account.
I tried ADD ANOTHER ACCOUNT but though it starts off well it does not go past the password point and either keeps flashing the password login box at me for ever or it says the email account name and or password is wrong.
Now here is the strange bit - on my other pc all is well with this WLM, it rocognises the user name and password of WLM and desk top application mail ([email protected]).

So do I give the different user Admin rights, will that make any difference? Or what?

Help would very much be appreciated!

Issue
My brother has a PC with Windows 10 and two Administrator Users:
#1 User: MS Account (the main one, used by my brother)
#2 User: Local Account (Secondary one, used by myself)

Since the login page is usually bypassed in this PC via netwizpl setup, none of us usually need to insert a password at startup, but after a Windows Update the login page reappeared, and my brother can't access his MS account any more because his password is not recognized.

Useful info

It's no keyboard issue: the keyboard layout is consistent with settings and we also checked the correct password spelling with the "eye" icon
Resetted MS password, but no joy: we have tried to reset the MS account password. The new password grants access to the MS account at https://login.live.com, but it's still useless when trying to login to Windows with the MS account.
All OK with the Local Account: the Local Account still grants login, and since it's an Administrator account it still allows access to the other account data.
Haven't done a Restore (yet): An obvious (but not necessarily effective) solution could be a Windows Restore. I'll probably try to Restore a previous System State if I don't find a better solution, but I'd prefer to understand the cause of this issue.

A:Windows 10 doesn't accept Microsoft Account password change

Have you gone into the MS account from the local account and changed to the new password?

Create a password for your account and lock the desktop when you're not using it. If he doesn't have access to Windows he can't change anything.

If he needs access to the system, create a limited account for him. This type of account won't be able to create new accounts.

Hi,

I am looking for some help please !

I am struggling with a family computer that i think may have been shut down during an update ?

It is a Intel Pentium 4 2.93 with 512 MB running Windows XP Home Edition with SP3.

Currently when you start up the computer it is going to the logon screen with the logon name filled in as the 'name of the computer' and asking for the password. No user account has ever been setup since the machine was purchased many years ago.

If you just click ok without a password it carries on with its startup until you get to the desktop when it pops up an error message :

Explorer.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.

If you click ok you then get left with just the desktop, no icons or start bar etc. You cannot use ctrl-alt-del either.

I have the same problem with safe mode.

I can however get a command prompt if i log on to safe mode with command prompt.

I have tried running the recovery console and logging on as administrator and trying to do a system restore but the box comes up and just hangs.

I am not sure what to do next and any advice would be greatly appreciated ?

Many Thanks,

Icedgem

To start I've scanned my computer about 12 times with bit defender and malwarebytes. Plus super anti spyware no viruses or spyware/ adware where found just cookies.

nvidia geforce 3gb 660 ti evga
1. Screen Tearing, while gaming I notice horizontal flickering lines in the graphics. I've tried turning on v-sync and I've tried the adapive mode in nvidia control panel. Also tried using v-sync in the visual menu of the game its self. yet nothing works. Still screen tearing.

2. MICROSOFT WINDOWS 8.1 PRO 64-bit - I'll get a (POP-UP) in the right hand corner of the task bar. Saying to turn on Windows Update because its off for some reason. So I do that, then 10 secs later it pops up again asking the same thing. I've tried all the trouble shooting programs and options to fix windows update none really work some say they fix 2 things one says it fixes like 4 or 5 things. I also tried rebuilding the update services thinking its corrupted but that did not solve the issue.

3. Just like the update error I get a (POP-UP) saying I need to verify my Microsoft password. And I did but it still pops up. So I changed my password and yes it still pops up saying I need to verify my password to my Microsoft account.

Could anybody help me with this?

A:Screen Tearing, Auto updates turn off, windows keeps asking for account password.

Does anybody have any knowledge on this. I cant get Microsoft Support to work and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about anywhere else.. If anybody could help me that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi everyone and merry Christmas!

I followed the procedure found on the web, I entered "netplwiz" and did uncheck ?Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer".
There is no password set.
THere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator.
(the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)

the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon?
thanks a lot in advance

A:Auto login, one account, no password: avoid to click account icon?

Hello Lorcar, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Go ahead and create a password for your user account, then do the tutorial below again to enter the new password and set your user account to be logged into automatically at startup.

Log On Automatically at Startup

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Our Windows 7 users are prompted when their passwords will expire in 14 Days, however They are not forced to change thier password before it expires. If the users ignore the expiration warning they can only get logged into the network after having the helpdesk
reset thier password.
Is there a way to force Windows 7 users to change thier passwords on the day it expires. Our WinXP users get the 14 day warning and are forced to change thier passwords on day 14.
I have the GPO configured to notifiy users when thier passwords will expire in 14 days
Thank you,
Glen

A:Windows 7 Expired Password - Recvd Warning prompts but not forced to change password

Hi,

After applying above settings, the user can change the password by default at the expire day. Please create a new domain profile and test the issue on several Windows
7 machines. Can the user be enforced to change password at expire day? If not, please refer to the following steps to collect the information for research.

1. On the DC, open GPMC, right-click Group Policy Results, choose Group Policy Results Wizard, follow the wizard to collect a Group Policy result for problematic
Windows 7 client.

2. On the Windows 7 machine where GPO failed to apply, please perform the following steps to collect log files:

a) Please add the specified registry key to enable group policy log (%windir%\debug\usermode\gpsvc.log), and remove or rename it to disable group policy log after
collecting data. You may need to create the Diagnostics key if it is not there.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics

Type: DWORD

Value: GPSvcDebugLevel

Data: 0x30002 (hexadecimal)

b) Then on the problematic Win7 machine, run command “gpupdate /force”.

c) Then on the problematic Win7 machine, run command “gpresult /v > gpr_win7.txt”, send me gpr_win7.txt file.

d) On the problematic Win7 machine, run command “eventvwr”, then expand to Applications and service logs -> Microsoft -> windows -> groupPolicy
-> Operational. Right-click on it and ... Read more

Hi,

I recently suffered a trojan virus attach and ultimately have changed my password on my email server.

I have tried to reset it to the new password in Windows mail multiple times. It keeps reverting to the old password as the saved password, and I continually have to retype in the new password. I tried resetting the password to nothing, and rebooting, and the old password comes back again.

There must be a preference file or an ini file that I can edit. Can I do that without loosing my address book, etc.?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Daria

A:Trouble resetting password in Windows Mail to new server password

You might try clicking "Apply" before "OK" in the same window that you entered the password. (I'm guessing that since you are using Windows 7, your email program is Windows Live Mail, not Vista's Windows Mail, although the procedure would be the same anyway.)

So, I installed Windows 10 last week. Yesterday I explored a bit and discovered Windows Edge, their new email/ outlook client. I attached my personal Gmail address to the service as well as my corporate address. My corporate account required me to create a new password that fit my company's security standards, which I did, but, after feeling like my company address was restricting how I use my personal home computer, I removed that address. Here's where I get fuzzy, I cannot, for the life of me remember, if I changed my password back to one that didn't conform to my company's security standards or if I left it alone. All I know is that once my computer locked later that night, I was unable to get back in. I've tried every permutation of every password, including that corporate password, I've ever used with no success.

I do not have a password reset disk nor do I have a system repair disk with which to reinstall Windows 10.

So, how screwed am I? Will I have to reinstall Windows 7, the last OS I have a disk for, and hope I can reupgrade to Windows 10?

P.S.
I did not attach my MSN email address (aka my Microsoft Account) to my computer, so resetting my password that way is a no go.

hello, I hope this is the correct forum, apologies if not.

last week my friend had one of the msn worms which sent a link to people on her contact list, claiming to be a photo album. in trying to copy and paste the link for inspection, i clicked it. i did not enter my uname/password into the page that came up and went to change my password. However, i realised i had forgotten it and the answer to my secret question. I know! How stupid. I always use a false answer to the question, and my msn logs in automatically. I could therefore log in to msn so tried to get instructions sent to my inbox. Which i did, but everytime I clicked the link, it said it had expired (a problem shared by many i have since discovered).

Anyway, as a last resort, i downloaded an msn password recovery program. I used it offline incase it tried to send anything back and after scanning with antivirus etc. Anyway, to cut a long prologue short, i got my password and was able to change it.

I then ran a number of anti virus /spyware scans, using kaspersky's free online scanner, avg free, spybot, adaware. Apart from a false positive from kaspersky involving a preinstalled isp trial, all was clear and i thought nothing of it.

However, ever since, every 2 days i seem to recieve an email which either is or looks exactly like the emails from the microsoft customer support that you get sent when you have requested further instructions on how to change your password. since changing it, I have made no further ... Read more

Don't know if I have a virus or not but when I tried to put in my password to open windows today it was already filled in with a long password, my password is only 10 letters long, and when I hit enter it would say wrong password. After trying about 5 or 6 times it finally let me type in my password. Now I'm afraid to shut off this pc thinking I may not be able to get it back on, machine is only a month old ! This is the first time this problem has happened. Just ran AVG scan and it came back as no threats. Is this just an 8.1 glitch or do I have a virus problem ? Another strange thing that happened recently just before my windows 7 died was I couldn't type my windows password into the password space, couldn't see any cursor, but if I took the pc downstairs to the main floor I finally found it worked just fine downstairs but if I took the pc back upstairs I couldn't type in a pass word again, to fix the problem I just removed the password window but the windows died right after that. but thats one for the books !!

This computer was set up about a year ago with sharing enabled. It worked perfectly the entire time.
Then a few weeks ago, it started prompting for a password. I've been racking my brain out since. Unfortunately, I let too much time pass before realizing I could roll back using System Restore so now I'm screwed. My best guess is that a security update caused this problem. I unstalled all the security updates in Jan (except the .NET 4 updates which I figured aren't the cause).
Here's my setup:
Windows 7 Home Premium on 5 computers
No HomeGroup
No passwords for any computer on the network
Sharing for each computer works fine except on this desktop. The desktop can access everything else but no one can access it
Printers are shared by the desktop and are no longer accessible
Network Sharing Center: Password protected sharing: Off (Tried On also)
Let Windows/Homegroup manage: On (Tried Off also)
Firewall completely disabled on desktop
The following registry settings have also be changed to no effect (in HKLM/Control/CurrentControlSet/Lsa)
forceguest: 0
LimitBlankPasswordUse: 0
LmCompatibilityLevel: 1
everyoneincludesanonymous: 1
restrictanonymous: 0
restrictanonymoussam: 0
Passwords are not required to login
Why is this not working? This is starting to royally irritate me. I've never had this problem before, and I've never used anything but blank passwords.

A:Windows 7 stopped sharing with no password / blank password

can u delete the share, reboot and then create the share anew perhaps -- and give the share a new name too.
