Unable to configure speakers on Laptop.

Q: Unable to configure speakers on Laptop.

Gooday all. I have a laptop set up for my entertainment area. I am using an HDMI cord from laptop to a screen and using the sound output to a set of surround sound speakers. This a pretty cheap set up,nothing fancy. I am trying to get all the speakers recognized by my Realtek Sound Management application. The Lasptop (http://speccy.piriform.com/results/J...8QITBgvOYgX6Ol) is only recognizing a 2 speaker stereo set up. How am I able to change this so as to be able to adjust settings to the 6 speakers of the system. Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Unable to configure speakers on Laptop.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to configure speakers on Laptop.

Looking at the Speccy, I don't see anything other than RealTek HD Audio. If the laptop has a RealTek HD Audio Manager, have you tried setting the speaker type there?

Aside from the audio issue, I notice you only have 2GB of RAM. The 64 bit OS does you no good with only 2GB of RAM, and can be an issue with only the 2GB which is bare minimum for a 64 bit OS. The main reason for using a 64 bit OS is to use more than 4GB of RAM, since a 32 bit OS cannot address 4 GB (or more) of RAM.

My daughters' Satellite laptop just came back from Comp USA where it had been for some major restorative surgery. None of her previous software made the return trip home....

I had bought her a Netgear wireless card, which we thought that she had lost some time ago...hence the disk was picthed. I found the wireless card...go figure...in a pocket in the heavy duty case I got her on eBay. I inserted the card and Windows kindly offered to reinstall the software, but alas..no disk. I've physically plugged the machine into our LAN and visited Netgear's site where I downloaded (at a paionfully slow pace..unusual as we are on broadband) what I assume is the correct driver. The files I downloaded are zipped, but none of them actually appear to be self-installing.

I have extracted the files but there does not seem to be any way to make any of them do what I need. I can list the filenames/extensions if that would be useful. Sincere thanks to anyone who can find the time to help.

Specs : Windows 7, Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3, Sound Device : Via HD Audio

My PC was built in January by a local computer store, and included a piece of software called Via HD Vdeck or Via HD Audio Deck which I used to configure my Creative Inspire 5.1 5300 speaker system. I upgraded to Windows 10 soon after launch, then in October had to wipe the computer and go back to Windows 7 as 10 seemed to have corrupted everything.

However, I no longer have this Via HD Vdeck since reloading Windows 7, so currently I only have sound coming from 2 speakers instead of all 5. I've tried reloading the drivers, and Googled every option I can think of!

What I need to know is, either, how on earth do I get this Via software, or is there another piece of software available that I can use to configure my speakers? (Using Playback Devices in Windows doesn't work!!!)

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Hello all.

My Dell Inspiron 3520 was going quite slow for unknown reasons so I decided to 'refresh' it using Windows advanced start-up setting. Since that time I have been unable to install Windows updates. Well, I can 'install' them, but they won't 'configure'. Once installed and 'configured' 100% I get this error message advising following reboot : "Failure to configure updates. Reverting changes". The laptop then stays paralysed on that screen.

This only started to happen AFTER I "refreshed" my laptop, which was running Windows 8.1 pretty-much problem-free, though a bit slowly, until a week ago. For now I have found a temporary 'fix' by disabling automatic updates; otherwise the laptop is constantly stuck on the "failure to configure updates" error page (because, obviously, it's automatically attempting to install updates). I have done all the standard troubleshooting, including running MS Fix It, Dell Dr ('My Dell' found no hardware issues), MS Malware removal and Mcafee anti-malware. All reported "no issues". I have been in command prompt and found no issues I even tried to 'refresh' the laptop again two more times. I have also spoken to two Windows "technicians" and allowed one of them to remotely access my laptop. He found no issues or "violations".

Obviously, the temporary 'fix' of turning off auto-updates isn't a long term solution, and 'refreshing' the laptop hasn't helped (it actual... Read more

Hello everyone,

I'm about at my wit's end trying to figure out my problem and finally decided I should ask the pros for help, since an exhaustive search of the interwebs has turned up nothing. I'm a hobby PC user so please be patient with me. So here is my problem.

I recently bought all the stuff to build an HTPC/gaming rig for my girlfriend and I and I wanted to set up RAID 1 but no matter what I try, I can't get it to work. Here is my rig.

ASRock H77 Pro4-M mobo
Intel i7-2600
(2) 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm; 6.0GB/s HDD
(4) 2GB G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR 1600 RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti Video Card
Cooler Master 600W Silent Power supply

I think that's about it.

Here is what I've done.

I went into bios and set my storage configuration to RAID. After, I saved and exited, and allowed the machine to reboot. When it did, I pushed Ctrl + I to enter the RAID volume setup menu. I labeled the volume, chose RAID 1, selected my drives, selected my size, and saved and exited. Then I booted from my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (Dell OEM, if that matters). I selected my regional settings, and when prompted, accepted the terms and selected "Custom" install. At the drive select screen, I saw one disk, which I believe is what I should see. I highlighted the drive and selected "Load Drivers." I used the driver labeled with the arrow in the attatched image. I got it from my mobo's website found here ASRock > Products > H77 Pro4-M. After the driver loaded, I re... Read more

A:Unable to configure RAID on Windows 7 Home Premium

Why do you want RAID? WIn7 doesn't much like RAID which isn't even Redundant so risks losing both HD's if one fails. Better to install to one HD and use the other for backing up an image.

If you saw one correctly-sized RAID array when you booted into the installer to try hardware RAID then the driver wasn't needed as it's only loaded when no drive shows up. Try again.

Hi, I recently purchased a pair of Corsair Vengeance 2000 wireless USB headphones. However, when I installed them and tried to use them, I came across a rather unusual problem. I couldn't test them, or set them as default device, or configure them. It's like Windows doesn't recognise them. All the drivers are installed correctly .

I have also tried them on another computer, with the same version of Windows and they worked fine, so I know that there is no problem with the headphones.

I am running RealTek HD audio just incase it is needed.

A:Unusual problem: No sound bar for headset and unable to configure them

Sounds like they could have a corrupt status in Windows. Connect the headphones then go to the Device Manager, either the headphones will be listed in the sounds and audio devices or there will be an unknown device listed in the USB section. In either case, RIGHT click on the entry and then LEFT click"Uninstall". Then disconnect the headset and restart the PC. After Windows starts, connect them and Windows should detect and install them, like a new installation. This may take care of the problem.

After restoring my new laptop back to factory settings (to fix problem I was having with MSE), I find that I am now unable to configure my restore points. The following drives appear in the Restore Config window with Restore set to 'On':

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:

Hello. To correct for a possible configuration issue, re-install the audio driver.

Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).
Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.
Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
Click "uninstall".
Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”.
Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device and re-install the driver, using the files that you did not remove in step 5. The reason this process fixes some audio issues is that it resets the driver settings to their default configuration.

After that, if it still happens then it is either a buggy audio driver or a defective headphone jack. To test the driver, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native audio driver.

Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).
Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
Select to "Update Driver Software".
Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).

Hi all
In the BIOS on a laptop the disk choice can enable SATA as IDE or AHCI.
If I chose IDE do I actually lose any disk performance -- having IDE makes it easier to have Windows XP as a dual boot system without having to hunt down all the SATA drivers and slip stream an XP disk.

Remember this is a LAPTOP not a desktop so disk performance won't be that great in any case.

Hello guys!
.I have a Motorola L6 phone and an ACER laptop, both have in-built bluetooth. I wanna transfer songs from my laptop to phone.
The problem: My mobile does show up on my laptop but when I select the file and try to transfer it to my phone,it says "error establishing a connection,FTP connection failed"
If the phone shows up,it means its connected right?? Then why can't I transfer my file?
Tell me step-by-step as to how I can successfully connect with FTP(file transfer protocol) for my phone.
I have tried several times, but it keeps sayin that "error establishing connection" even though my phone shows up ...
Just guide me through all the "pairing,FTP,configuration etc" needed to connect , please......

Brand new laptop started having a problem with updates. Downloads vast numbers of them, then gets to 8% of configuring, restarts, tries to resume configuring and then gives an error message that it can't configure and is undoing changes.

I have reinstalled (reset) Windows, but still have the problem.

I can still send it back for a hardware repair, but suspect it might be software?

Could someone help?

A:[SOLVED] Acer laptop with Win 8.1 will not configure updates

Have you tried deselecting all the updates and then manually selecting only a few - for example, say 5 or 10 at a time?

I have seen Windows get confused when it has many updates to install. Installing them in smaller blocks often resolves the issue. But it needs lots of patience because you have to go through the Restart process for every block.

As you have described the problem it is unlikely that it is a hardware issue.

Hi MissBat, It sounds like the computer is not coming back on its own. You probably want to shut it off by Pressing the Power button until the system crash-stops.  A crash stop takes about ten seconds of pressing the power button. Let the system "spin down" completely - it takes probably not more than three seconds for the disks come to a complete stop after the system shuts down. Then, go from there - try to power on the computer and see what it does.  If you need more help, you must provide more information - your exact computer model, your exact Operating System, and whether or not you know what the system was doing before it shut itself down and got stuck. How to find your Product Number: Locate the Notebook Product Number===========   OR    ================On your keyboard (Use the built-in keyboard, and not an external / USB controlled device):Press the FN and ESC keys at the same time Which Windows operating system am I running? Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

I just bought a new laptop; ASUS N55SF-S1070V, and I have to completely close the lid to turn off the monitor. My former one turns its monitor off when I close the lid for, say 45deg, and I really love it as it helps the cooling.

The built-in hotkey to turn off the monitor first appeared to work, but when I looked closely, it just turn off the backlight or something. I can still see the screen's content!

I'm now using some apps to force turn off the monitor, but it's a bit inconvenient.

I've been wondering: is there a way to configure the angle in which the monitor will turn off automatically? I've read a post elsewhere saying there's a built-in hardware based switch that detects this action, and it can't be configured otherwise. Is this true? I'm hoping to see a registry hack, a code injection or something.

Ideas, anyone?

A:Configure laptop's lid angle to turn off the monitor, viable?

Most laptops have a device inside of them that once the laptop lid closes, it triggers off a hardware mechanism that tells the computer to turn off the back light and possibly the screen itself and then put the computer to sleep, hibernate, or shut down depending on what your power settings are (On older computers you can see a little button that sticks out and when pressed by your finger or the lid of the laptop, it shuts off the backlight. There really isn't a program that has an option to change the angle the lid has to be in before it turns off the screen. That's all hardware.

i'm trying to pair a wireless bluetooth speaker with my new hp notebook N5Y05UA#ABA.

A:Unable to pair Bluetooth speakers

Hi: The reason you cannot connect to the bluetooth speakers is due to the fact that your notebook does not come with built in bluetooth networking. Below is the link to the product specifications for your notebook. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04936074 If it came with bluetooth, that would have been listed along with the 802.11b/g/n (1x1) wireless connectivity specification.

I have a Dell laptop on a docking station running Windows 7. Everyday I place it on the docking station and use my 20 inch monitor. Is it possible to activate the dual monitor feature and use the 20 inch as the primary and use the open laptop as the secondary monitor? If so, what should my settings be?

A:How do I configure dual monitors with laptop on docking station and external monitor?

The value of 'Multiple displays' (see attachment) should be 'Extend these displays.' You may have to switch the positions of the two monitors (at the top of that window).
