Ping DG, ftp block/httpd block

Q: Ping DG, ftp block/httpd block

Hello Guys,

I find this to be quite embarrassing, having an issue like this that I can't figure out.

Here's what I can't do.

1. Ping DG (Default Gateway)
2. Ping my IP (96.46.29.108)
3. Can't access my router via remote, even though its setup to allow it.

What I can do.

1. Access any web page.
2. Ping any website but my own IP/DG.
3. Play games & use the internet like usual.

I've forwarded the ports I use, and allowed all the programs to roll through the Firewall without issues. I'm not sure if my ICMP was disabled on my router, my family currently shut down my computer, so I can't remote in, and work on it.

I installed TeamViewer because LogMeIn isn't going to accept any "Free" connections anymore, and will require a paid subscription. I've got an older version of RealVNC installed, but I couldn't remember my serial key.

Sincerely,
Thomas

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is this from a remote location or from within the local LAN of the router? If remote, when you mean Default Gateway, is that the remote router you are trying to access or the default gateway used to access the internet?

Have you checked that the public IP address is current? Unless you have paid for a static IP address it is very possible for a different one to be assigned via DHCP by the ISP.

Well, just yesterday I discovered all my windows application thumbnails were replaced by the default windows application thumbnails. Applications like Hearts, Windows Media Player, Real Player, Notepad, Calculator have all been affected.

My spybot S&D has, since 2 hours ago, got on maniac mode blocking all the registry changes on my blacklist. Here's a screenshot:

Control Panel / Windows firewall / Advanced settings (on left side) / Inbound rules / New rule (on right side) : set "all programs" , protocol "ICMPv4" , ICMP settings click Customize button and choose "specific ICMP types / echo request. Choose "block". It will put it appropriately at the top of the list. GRC now shows full stealth.Hope that helps! - - -

I am having problems with my Dell XPS M1530 laptop with a Vista OS. It was infected with the Vista Antivirus 2012 bug. I was able to disable and then remove that but am now having issues with two processes.

Upon start-up, the httpd.exe initiates and eats up a lot of CPU power. I am able to end process but have not been able to disable/remove it. It starts up again on next boot.

The other process is PING.exe. This process is also using a lot of CPU power. I can end this process but it immediately reopens.

I have also noted that my IE is being redirected when I try to click on the results of a Google search.

I have followed the steps described in the Preparation Guide. I have included the log below and have attached the ATTACH file.

I attempted to run GMER. The first time, my computer locked up (couldn't move mouse/select anything) after a short while. The second and third attempt resulted in a blue screen warning (after running for a couple hours) followed by a quick shut-down that did not allow me time to copy message. Upon the most recent restart, I received a Microsoft Windows message stating "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown." Here are the problem details:

I found this forum by posting an "off topic" question on a wood workers forum.

My current question is about a week or so ago a "Cyber Link" icon appeared on my desktop and when I try to watch a DVD it takes me to the CL page to register and join. Since I have no idea where this came from and what it's all about I don't need more stuff on my computer.

Can I just uninstall all of the CL files without affecting anything else?

BTW. I apologize ahead of time, my assistance to anyone else will probably be minimal due to my ignorance.

Once CyberLink has been uninstalled, Windows will default to the normal video player. It's fine to remove.

Hello all, my cd / dvd - rom, drive D:/ Has an error "bad block" how can i resolve the problem please, ta ,dai
WIN7 HOME 64 BIT

A:Bad Block?

A bad block is a damaged area of the disc which cannot be written to. You're presumably talking about a CD or DVD you're trying to burn? If that's the case, chuck it away and use another one. If on the other hand, you're trying to copy a CD/DVD to the hard disk, then do the following. Open Windows Explorer and then right click your C: drive and go to "Properties". Click the "Tools" tab and then in the top menu called "Error checking", click "Check Now". In the next menu which appears, checkmark both boxes and then click "Start". You'll get a message that the tool cannot run because the drive cannot be locked and whether you want to schedule a check on the next reboot. Click Yes and then reboot.Chkdsk will run and mark bad sectors a.k.a. "bad blocks", so that they can't be used. Be aware though that checking for bad sectors can take several hours, so only do this when you're not going to be using the PC for a while.

A:Allow or Block ?

I would block every program that you specifically know does not need the internet. For example, if you msn messenger or aim, and you get a warning, and you do use it, allow it out. If you see another program that is trying to go out, and you dont know about it, dont allow it.

Make sure you give the wuaclt.exe program access out as that checks for new updates or any other program that is accessing windowsupdate.com.

The other ones that are trying to connect or come inbound to port 137,138,139,445 are usually for file sharing. From your ip addresses I am assuming you have a router/firewall as well?

To block or not to block? That is the question?

Pros of blocking ads:

- Less malvertising (aka advertising that injects malicious code into your system)

- More productivity

- Less loading times

Cons of blocking ads:

- More websites will not be able to support themselves

- More websites will develop a paywall network

- Less free extensions and apps

A:To Block Ads Or To Not?

To be honest, only annoying ads, some people are making money from ads and how would you feel if someone is preventing you from earning money and feed your family ? I don't think so Ads are fine to me,but malwaretising, annoying popups etc. is not acceptable. I understand how it is to spend a lot of time and effort to build a website or app and someone uses adblocker to ruin everything. Even domains are not free (.com / .org etc.) so they need to cover their expenses. Everyone who makes apps or serves a service on site (like forums) deserves extra $/?// in their pockets

Hello and Welcome.

You most likely installed Messenger Plus! Live with Sponsor. It's the sponsor which delivers CiD popup ads. Sometimes, even uninstalling these from Add or Remove programs does not entirely remove the pest.

Hi there

Recently I've replaced my hard drive. This is because my laptop was blue-screening and freezing so much that a string of bad shut downs eventually knackered it. The laptop is a tosh, satellite 4100XCDT, 128mb Ram, 400Mhz. I'm running win 98SE and it's still blue screening etc. So as the next course of action I'm trying to isolate if this is a RAM issue and if so, which bit of RAM.

I've run memtest86 and this came up blank.

Next I have tried to limit the Himem in config sys, but the max RAM i seem able to shut off/bypass seems to be approx 16mb, even if i put a higher figure in the himem.sys /int15 line. And as the comp still blue screens, it's clearly RAM in another section.

Trying maxphyspage is a bit dodgy because if I direct this amount to be 32mb, the system becomes really unstable and blue screens all the time. This could therefore mean that the bad RAM is within this section, or it could just mean I need more RAM to run the system properly. If, however, it is the bad section, how can I get the computer to ignore it.

Is there anyone there out there who has any idea how to help me? It seems I'm just running around like a headless chicken at the moment randomly hitting keys on the keyboard and hoping for the best. I know I could go to a shop to get this fixed, but I'd really like to learn some stuff before I do that, to see if I can do this myself.

Thanks

Alfie

What you need to do is to remove the following Updates that were pushed the last Patch Tuesday. Now this is applicable to Windows 7SP1 and Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 . I have had no problems since I did this. The Updates are:

KB2670838
KB2729094
KB2731771
KB2533623
KB2786081

After you perform go to this website and follow the directions:

Download Toolkit to Disable Automatic Delivery of Internet Explorer 10 from Official Microsoft Download Center

This may help someone. I do not believe that IE 10 is ready for Windows 7.

Even easier would be to use this tookit from M$ to block the automatic update.

Hi
I want to restrict the use of MSN Messenger by kids, especially the chat. I can't seem to block it through "internet options" in IE5.5. Is there an easy way to block it when I want to without going out and buying some software?
Thanks

I've had antispyware now for six months, no real problems. When I updated to 06 version, I get the blocking popup frequently and one everytime I start up, wherein it says change to the default user folders requires approval.

The change requested is my Documents and settings and seems to be asking for a change from my XP settings to my Earthlink settings for the same thing. My friend says just always block anything. I block it but it still comes up every time I start the computer. I have the total msg but thought I'd get any feedback in general on this. Thanks.

Hi,
My automatic AOL spyware/adware scans regularly say "we have found and blocked 16 items" (or any other number), but sometimes it says "1 item found, do you wish to block it? Warning--blocking may stop other programs working"
I click 'Yes' to block it anyway, is that the right thing to do? I mean, I don't want it sitting on my system do I?

As for "stopping other programs working", I've got my fair share of glitches like everybody else which I can just about live with, so how would i know if a blocked item has caused the glitches?
I must have scores of blocked items on my system by now and it'd be impossible to check each one to see if its causing problems.
Can somebody give me a brief overview of the whole subject?
Thanks

I keep getting many pop-ups and flashing warnings about bad performance when using some sites eg ti.com [ using Chrome ] - I use Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

I have blocked pop-ups via control panel, set top security etc. and run both Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows-KB890880 malicious software checker - nothing is found [ quick scan, full takes 8 hours ] ]

I get a message stating that I am a BT user and I have NOT blocked pop-ups - ring TOLL FREE etc. etc.

These are driving me mad. Also I cannot seem to download recommended IE 11 [ If that would make any difference ]

[ I have another machine , Windows 7 Home , using IE with Malwarebytes running that doesn't have this problem on same network ]

A:Cannot block some pop-ups

You`ve been invaded, you downloaded something without clearing check boxes, Slow Down

Uninstall Chrome, and use ccleaner to cleanup the registry, remove any chrome folders in program folders x86.

Install and run MBAM.

No way should a MSE scan take 8 hours.

There`s no reason you can`t download IE11 through Windows update.

Go through add remove programs and uninstall anything that looks odd.

Re install Chrome.

I'm not sure if this post breaks any rules, so if it does a moderator can lock/delete it.

In the middle of last year my university decided to block IRC. Unfortunatly I'm not sure HOW they are blocking it. I can, after a while, connect to some EFnet servers and a handful of other servers in the huge list of IRC servers my MIRC came with, which seems to indicate that it isn't perfect. According to a few web sites i've found there is supposed to be ways to work around a irc block, but they don't actually say how. Last year I was able to get on by connecting through my friend's VPN, but he is having troubles with that this year so that option is no longer viable.

Anyone have any ideas?

what's your advice?? Should i get a new hard drive, make a clone copy with Ghost and flush it on the new drive?

cor I don't like this much... I tried Defragmenting and Chkdsk but both options seemed to stall on the offending sector and the hard disk is making a weird spinning grinding sound when I try getting into Outlook Express.

The pc is running WIN2000 Pro OS, 512MB RAM, ATHLON 2400GHz processor. Used at work, so nothing fancy as graphics card and sound card (both onboard).

Maybe I should have this thread over at Hardware? Not sure.

To determine if the HDD id good or not, you may want to run the disk manufacturers diagnostic test.

I have a movie file (3.84GB) that I downloaded, and want to move it to a new location, but each time I try it fails. Apparently, it not because of something being wrong with the movie itself, because it works fine when playing. but the error dialog says that it can't read from the file or source. Other movies from the same drive and folder moved without any issues.

I ran an error scan with HD Tune, and discovered a damaged block on the HD that might correspond with the location of the file, but I'm not certain. If so, is there a way to save the movie? I know that there is a way to have the system repair the block, but I can't remember what it is...help!

A day after setting up some AT commands, I went into my Event viewer to see if I could get some results of an automatic defrag. First off, do you know where I can find the results? Also, I found an error on \Device\Harddisk0\D. What drive would this be? I have 2 hard drives and a DVD-ROM.The actual error says: "The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block."There are 3 errors. One at 6:00pm, one at 6:06:17pm, and one at 6:17:20Any ideas? Thanks!

A:Bad Block where now??

AFAIK, there is no defrag report of operations. Defrag just moves files around, making it easier for the system to operate effectively...I'm not sure what use any report of such activity might be to anyone. It's hard for me to say...which disk the system considers HD0.Harddisk0...is usually the one the system considers to be the first bootable drive attached. It is not necessarily the O/S drive, just the first drive that would be bootable. What I mean is...if the system has SATA hard drives and PATA hard drives connected...theoretically the PATA drive can contain the O/S and be the first hard drive installed. I have 1 PATA drive attached on this system, with two SATA drives later attached. The PATA drive logically should be Disk0, since it was the first one attached and Windows is installed on it.But...when those SATA drives are attached, they move ahead in the hierarchy...and become HD0 and HD1, as evidenced by a review of the screen in Disk Management.So...my advice would be to take a look in Disk Management and see which is designated as Disk0 there. What's the event ID noted in Event Viewer for that error message? When I see a message re "bad block", I realize that it can be serious or it can be nothing. If the drive referred to is an optical drive, it's probably pretty insignificant. It's alerting the user that the drive cannot read (for whatever reason) a CD/DVD which has been inserted. The CD/DVD could be dirty or defective...the drive ... Read more

Just wondering what MSE blocks to help protect your computer

eg. Virus, Malware, worms, trojans, everything, or something?

what does it block?

A:What does MSE block?

ummm....simply put viruses, spyware, and other malicious software

And now the jargon....
MSE real time protection mechanism operates at the kernel level to examine the behavior of unknown binaries and then sandbox potential malware before it can do any harm.It has heuristic detection capabilities too. And due to a new Dynamic Signature Service, MSE can immediately query online to see if there is anything that matches what its seeing on the PC. Because of its kernel mode hooks, MSE can also detect kernel mode rootkits and, in many cases, even clean them out after they've rooted their way into the system.

but:
as with any other av/as it can be bypassed by new/zero day threats..especially rouge av/as cause they are a pita
ideally use it in conjunction with something like mbam pro
