Preferred Solution: I have aquired the network monitor trojan and here is my hijack this log

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I believe I managed to remove most of it, most of it was fake anti virus software but I still have one remaining problem that only occurs on an administrator account.

I cannot view web pages with any web browser or use MSN messenger, all other online services work properly. I can't view web pages with Steam either.

It gives me a dns error in Internet Explorer and Steam/Firefox talk about a proxy disallowing permissions or something similar. It works fine on non administrator accounts however.

Scanning with programs turns up nothing.

I'm sorry to post yet another new thread about a topic that seems to be quite popular, but none of the situations seem to be exactly the same as mine.

I got a virus from MSN Messenger a few days ago and since I've been having major problems with a combination of issues. I have Norton Antivirus, Spybot, Ad-aware and Windows Defender running on my computer. At first, Norton was detecting Trojan Vundo over and over again. I went to the Symantec site and ran the Vundo removal tool and it hasn't come up since. However, now every time I run Spybot and Ad-aware, I get new issues including CMD Service, Monnet, Network Monitor, Smit-fraud-C and Toolbar 888. I don't even know if I fixed the Trojan properly.

Also, every time I reboot I get an "ipwins.exe - unable to locate component" error message saying: "This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Just rebooted after a long absence from my machine, 6 months, and I can not get an IP address assigned to me from our cable modem. After many talks with our provider I have been assured it is not from them. I have performed a reinstall of XP Pro but to no avail. I am assuming that I picked something up that is just rearing its ugly code now. Any ideas, possibly something I can get on-line during work and bring home or maybe a dance I can do to convince the gods that I need to get on the net after work?

Thank you.

A:Ip Adress can not be aquired

Well first i would make sure that your machine is set up to use DHCP. You can do this by:

Right clicking network connections -> click properties.
Right click your connection -> click properties.
On the general tab scroll to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Select it and hit properties
On the general tab make sure the Obtain ip address automatically is selected, and obtain DNS server address automatically.

You also want to check the cable, make sure that it is seated properly, try taking it out and putting it back in.

Support.com has just aquired Superantispyware for $8.5 Million. You can read the anouncement Here

I really don't know what to think of this. I kind of liked that Superantispyware was a small company of talented people. On the other hand maybe this could lead to Superantispyware becoming a much greater product, who knows.

cheers

McAfee can't find the problem, I am using a different computer and will have to work between the two. I am not networked but do share the same wireless router. I have been saved by techguy and am hopeful that you can help once again. Please help.

Hi,
I'm new to viruses and to this site. I found this link on the McAfee web site and i hope you guys can help. Someone from Nigeria im-ed me on my Yahoo Messenger and there was a link attached to it and I clicked on it. It took me to this web site: http://quatangtraitim.us.tf. Now my browser is permanently fixed to this website. I installed the McAfee Internet Security Suite hoping that this would fix the problem but it hasn't. I'm not sure that I understand this. This virus protection told me that the virus it's blocking is VBS/Psyme. Also when I open my yahoo messenger it changes my tag to some foreign language (maybe chinese or Japanese) and it opens im message boxes to people on my messenger list. It's is attaching itself to each site that I visit, meaning that after the title of the site that I am on is the name of the website Qua Trai Tim http//quatangtraitim.us.tf. I have installed the Hijack This program and have the list but I am not sure how to post it here. Please assit if you can.

Thanks

Hi- You have started two threads for the same problem, TSG rules say that you should use only 1 thread....I know there is quite a lag in replying right now, but it is late and most of our help is not able to be here now....

Please stick with your one thread, someone will reply to you soon, but it may not be tonite is all.
I will close this thread, it gets confusing if you have two- when replies come in, people and you will get all mixed up. It's OK, happens every day here, we just simply advise and close the extra thread, then they get deleted.

We just received a used Dell Optiplex GX520 Desktop from a lottery at work.
I want to make it usable for the kids, internet, music etc..
Presently is has a 40GB SATA hard drive in it. Also there two of these:
Dual In-Line Memory Module 256, 533, 32X64, 8, 240, 1RX16, not sure how much this is,
but the system takes up to 2GB of RAM. There is a network card. The system specs state it has 1 Internal 3.5"bay(is this where the existing hard drive resides?), 1 External 3.5" bay and 1 External 5.25" bay. There's cabling in the box for a 3.5" disk drive and an optical drive. Looks like possibly IT took all of them out for the lottery.
I also have the authentication sticker for Windows, but no discs.
So this what I'm looking for help on:
1-install a second drive or upgrade the existing one, and how to do that, can I do that?
2-make backups of WindowsXP Home, how to, can I?
3-install a DVD/CD burner, can I?
Thanks in advance for your time

I believe I became infected with the Curve-Torrent-Bitcoin Locker trojan at the end of December.  I have tried to use Symantec, Malwarebytes and Avast.  While Malwarebytes and Avast quaratined and deleted files, they didn't seem to completely fix the infection.

Startup is slower than it use to be, the longer the computer runs after a normal startup the more often I get the "unable to complete task due to lack of resources."  Eventually, the screen stops refreshing and the computer freezes.

Hello,

My computer has become infected with the following trojans/rootkits, and I've everything I know how (which is very little) to fix it, with no effect. I discovered this forum while googling the relevant trojan names and come to you humbly for whatever assistance you may offer.

The first problem I noticed was computer/browser slowdown. There was an svchost process that was listed as using over half of my RAM. I suspected an infection and so ran my antivirus/malware software -- Avast, AdAware, & Malwarebytes. Nothing was discovered. Shortly after this alerts began popping up from Avast saying it was blocking communication to a certain website. I'm sorry, I didn't take this as seriously as I should have at first and did not write down anything about these first warnings. Repeated scans again revealed nothing. I remembered from removing one of the "AntiVirus" rootkits from a girlfriend's computer that starting in safe mode, installing a new Malwarebytes, and then scanning may help. I tried that, and two trojans were discovered, both named Exploit.Drop.7, and I removed them. After this I also ran the Free Windows Registry Repair command, as well as the registry repair function of C-Cleaner (I'm not sure why, in retrospect, I just remembered doing that last time). I restarted the computer again. It appeared to be working normally, and I accessed the internet and checked e-mail, etc. However, in just a few minutes I again notice... Read more

Browser Hijacker.Internet Explorer Settings Hijack

Browser homepage goes to a spyware software site which varies each time it opens.

That is an outdated version of Hijack This.
Go to here and download 'Hijack This!' self installer.
Save it to the desktop or other suitable place. DO NOT just press run from the website
Double click on the file and it will install to C:\program files\hijackthis and create an entry in the start menu.
Click on the entry in start menu to run HijackThis
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.

I have AT&T DSL and it just drops out, I have a 2 wire router and the DSL and Internet lights will flash red when it drops, I have had this problem for almost a year and AT&T will run a useless test and tell me everything is fine. I have searched for 3 days trying to find a Broad Band Monitor to let me know when it drops and for how long, also how many times while I am at work, or just not on the PC. If anyone could help me out with this it is more than appreciated.

A:I need a Broadband Monitor not a Network Monitor?

The problem is obviously in the service or the 2 wire device itself.
This is why I quit using at&t years ago. customer support is pretty much non-existent they made me pay out of pocket for replacement modems and routers as well as charging additional money for demanding they come out and fix it.

Honestly I would suggest switching to a cable provider if one is available in your area.

Hi,

I noticed on one of our computers that it was very slow with doing anything - running programs or getting on the internet. I did some investigating and process explorer showed one of the svchost processes was taking up to 50% to 90% of the CPU time. this happened before and it turned out to be a rootkit. I ran malwarebytes and avira anti-virus and they both found some things and I had them removed. but It still was not right. I did some DDS, OTL and MBRcheck scans and I noticed some suspicious things. I am a junior trainee and I thought I would be able to remove them myself but I still don't know enough and I want to be sure I handle it correctly. Here are my logs:

Is there a good network traffic/broadband monitor that actually keeps track of ALL (really ALL) traffic in a network?
I have used quite a few (eg, Ethereal, ntop, network probe) but all of them kinda keep track of only traffic that is coming in and out of the PC they are run from.

I need one that really tracks every single transaction that goes on in the network, including PCs talking to PCs, PCs talking to servers, servers talking to PCs, PCs talking to printers, etc.

Would help a great deal if they are FREE too!

Anyone know of any good ones?

Hello all,

My laptop was hit with a multiple virus infection while using Firefox.
Symantec seemed to have taken care of things at the time but I was still having some problems, and it didn't seem to be able to get rid of TDSS. I disabled system restore and tried to clean the registry manually, but wasn't able to find all the entries listed on the Symantec site. I disabled the TDSS driver via the control panel.
MBAM wouldn't install, so I tried Spybot which found a few other issues. Finally I was able to install MBAM and HJT from a disc, and connected back to the internet again briefly to update both.
I ran CCCleaner then MBAM in safe mode and MBAM seems to have cleaned everything (both MBAM and HJT scans looked ok afterwards, though there are still a few entries in the HJT log that look suspicious to me).
Everything seems to be fine now, and I proceeded to uninstall the old Java updates, got all the latest Windows updates, and then turned system restore on again.
I'm basically looking for some advice on what to do to make sure everything is in fact gone as there are those few HJT entries that look suspicious to me.
Thanks in advance!

HI All!
Is it normal for the "Monitor.exe" to try to access the internet? Or do I have a bug? According to MS description, this device regulates internal functions and needs no Internet access. I have blocked it completely, after a system reinstall and putting in the firewall FIRST before connecting to anything by phone line. The firewall indicates a good deal of port scanning (eTrust), so I put in PortBlocker to help out.
What brought all this to my attention is that my previous firewall was attacked and turned off/on and adjusted without my knowing (Sygate free) and let a lot of stuff get into the machine. The balloons that pop up from the bottom of the screen indicated 'Monitor.exe' was trying to access the Net and I was getting a flurry of portscans from outside. It got worse, and other software devices became vehicles for unauthorized access as well. After using the system recovery disc for full reinstallation, it behaved well for a short time, then began regular attempts to get out to the Net again. The firewall requires ok for all traffic, except what's allowed by me, so the Monitor.exe is blocked completely. YES, you could live with it this way . . . but what does this? And can this be utilized by attackers?
I have run every detection/removal device recommended to me, and have had AdAware, SpybotS&D, SpywareBlaster, AVG Antivirus, BHODemon, MRUBlaster, and a few more, all MS updates. If there's nothing wrong with HJT log does it mean there's nothin... Read more

Hello-
Our ISP has random outages that requires our router to be reset, unfortunately, we are only notified by the outage by our irate users. We began using Spinner in our office to alert us if our connection goes down, but Spinner is an unauthorized program and we're being pressured to get it taken off. Is there any type of freeware/shareware that would alert us when our connection drops? I was thinking of some type of script that would ping an external address and play a sound if the ping is unsuccessful. I know this can be done in Unix, but we don't have a Unix box up yet

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone,
My old PC was having problems and I got a new one but it has Windows 8.1 on it, and I have only used Windows 7 so far. Well my internet is not a very reliable thing and I would like to have a gadget that shows me how my net is working, whether the speed is good or not, whether I am lagging too much etc. Windows 7 had a Network Monitor gadget, and on searching I think Windows 8 has done away with the whole gadget thing, and I just downloaded something called 8GadgetPackSetup. I installed it and it does show some gadgets, Network Monitor included but for some reason, the gadget isn't working. I just see an external IP address but the internal IP, the network bandwidth line chart, current and total uploaded and downloaded MB's etc are not showing at all. The clock on the sidebar where the gadgets show up is working though, and so is the weather gadget, it is just the Network monitor that is not working. Could someone kindly help me to get it working? Or is there a program for Windows 8.1 which will run in the background that I can keep checking to see how my net is working please?

A:Network monitor app like that in Win 7?

You can download the Microsoft Network Monitor it is a separate app not a gadget.
If you just want to check on your internet speed, go to speedtest.net
If you want a gadget, then download Network Monitor II

I've been trying for days to remove this thing on my own. It's placed itself on my programs launch list and has an uninstall option that DOESN'T work. I've seen on some forums that it showed up on some people's add/remove programs list and they removed it this way. It's not showing up on my list. Also, I've read there is a "bndnloader.dll" file you have to remove, can't find that either. So, hopefully one of you lovely's here may help me. Here are my hijackthis logs.

A:Pesky Internet Speed Monitor!!! Help!!! I have HiJack Logs!!!!

Hi, Lubbydub

Welcome.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Close any open browsers.
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" on your next reply.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
If asked to update the program definitions, c... Read more

Pleae help. Last night a few viruses popped up but my av pgm (Avast) caught them and deleted them. But this morning when I logged on, my monitor colors were a mess. My screen is bright yellows, browns and purples. Although it's kinda pretty, these are not my monitor colors and I'm afraid I've been infected. Even my beach wallpaper scene is horrible - water is bright gold, sky is light yellow. My computer seems to be working okay - sort of - other than it being very slow, especially on startup. So far today I ran a Super Anti-Spyware Scan and deleted 192 tracking errors and a full Avast scan where I deleted 2 viruses but neither has corrected this screen or speed problem. I'm attaching a HiJack Log. I would appreciate you taking a look at this log to see if there is anything suspicious going on. Meanwhile, I am going to try to replace my monitor with another one I have and see if that makes a difference. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My display settings and monitor settings are all correct. Nothing has changed. And I have rebooted a few times. Thought I'd add that in case you were going to suggest it.

Hi !

My network setup in the office is

Adsl Router -----8 port switch-----Three computers connected to this switch ( 2 desktop and 1 laptop)

The 2 desktops are basically networked for data and file sharing used by my staff.
I just need basic net connectivity and not file sharing on my laptop.

But since all 3 are connected to the net, I am unable to monitor their usage and I tend to get very slow speeds when I surf.

It is an assumption that the other 2 users are on the net while I surf, this tends to slow down the traffic and quite bothersome.
I do not mind them using the net while I am away, since everyone needs their privacy.
All I need is :

How can i disconnect their connection while I am online?

Can i monitor which computer is accessing the net, and the content usage ?

Any further suggestions ?

Hi, is there any tool that can help my monitor the activity on the PCs in my network? Or at least the internet activity?

I have a small office with around 6 PCs. Now the thing is internet isn't so great in my country so on my low speed plan if anyone keeps something on download it slows down the internet of the entire network.

I would also like to monitor if the employees are doing their work or not.

Is there any tool I can do this with?
Also I don't want to disable entire internet access cause my employees need to send EMails.

EDIT:
Since it has happened every time on this forum I am just going to make it clear this time.
The Windows Seven written to the left below my username is the OS I use in my home and my personal favorite OS so far, and has nothing to do with this thread.
So please don't tell me f*** off to the Windows Seven forums this time.

A:Spy or monitor activity on network PCs?

For starters, you can create a free OpenDNS account and use OpenDNS an all computers.
Free version allows you to block about 60 categories for your IP, it will prevent access to them.

I'm looking for a program that can give me a detailed picture of all the network activity of a PC.
Not just the active connections but what flows via them if possible?

Most of us use Wireshark for this.

What is Best Non-MS Network Monitor for Win7?

OK... before half of you suggest Perfomance Monitor in Administrative Tools, I'm looking for something easier to use and preferably something that can measure both wired and 802.11x speeds and throughputs.

Once I have a fair amonth of suggestions I will add a poll to this thread!

Hey guys, bit off topic but thought I'd ask anyway;

On my home network (wired and wireless) i would like to monitor the internet usage by various computers, the reason being we keep going over our limit or the internet is almost always slow (unless i am the only one home, then its fine) and of course all users deny its them.

Is it possible to find out what is chewing up all our bandwidth?

note:
Most connected devices are wireless except one pc that is directly connected via cable, i thought it would be possible to install something on it to keep track on what's going on,

Hope this is possible
Specs/info
Wireless/ Wired network (encrypted)
1 NETGEAR DG834PN Router
1 wired desktop with networked printer
1 xbox 360 connected via cable to router
2 Windows XP laptops connected via wireless
3 Windows 7 laptops connected via wireless
1 Windows vista laptop connected via wireless
1 Windows vista desktop connected via wireless

Monitoring the network traffic from all of your devices would be a job for your router.
Unfortunately, your Netgear firmware probably only allows for a limited amount of actions, monitoring bandwidth is probably not one of them. I'm not totally familiar with netgear though, so you might find something in their firmware gui. If you want to gain more control over your network I would suggest purchasing a router that you can flash DD-WRT or OPEN-WRT onto.

you can get more information on tho... Read more

Let's try this again. I'll look forward to a moderator to delete or close this. Not sure why, maybe nothing better to do. My intent is to make sure my son stays off of unwanted sites and particularly myspace.com. here goes.

I have a desktop that is wired to my dlink wbr 1310. Upstairs I have a desktop for my 12yr old son. And I also have a notebook in my room. The thing is, I'm looking for a software that i can "see" what he is doing in realtime. net lookout or something. Not sure what its called and where i can get it at.

Since it's impossible for us to determine the intent here, we don't assist in this kind of activity.
