I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There's a couple of things you can do. Perhaps the quickest might be to D/L Tweak UI and look within the left pane at the list. One is titled Desktop. Click it and there's another list comes up in the right side. Put a check in Recycle Bin. See if that helps.

My friend has Windows XP Home Edition. He uses Comcast cable. He previously has Norton Anti-Virus. When he found out that McAfee was free with Comcast, he decided to switch. We got McAfee installed and thought we had removed Norton, but we see that the Desktop shows he has the Norton Recycle Bin and does not have the Windows Recycle Bin. And when he deletes a file, it doesn't go to the Norton Recycle Bin.

What is the easiest way to remove the Norton Recycle Bin and restore the Windows Recycle Bin?

Thank you.

The icon to the recycle bin has been deleted from my desktop and the original recycle folder has been renamed $recycle.bin. When I open the $recycle.bin, it says the folder is empty. However, with Sniffer, I can see the deleted files are intact in this folder.

How can I recover the data and put it in a default recycle.bin?

Hi, I've been backing up data on my computer only to open up recycle bin the other day and find most of the files missing. I was very confused. Then i realised i had recently deleted 2 or 3 large files in size of 2 or more gb and that the recycle bins capacity is 4gb Has recycle bin deleted my older items because there wasn't enough space? I need to find or restore the old files. Im guessing the recycle bin dir in c: has now been modified showing the current status. Can i recover any older recycle bin dir or any files which list the files that were in recycle bin before is was modified and deleted old files? I have tried free undelete programs but they all only show the current recycle bin contents, i need to find the old contents. I also mucked around with some security settings of recycle bin and corrupted it. I had to empty it. Does this mean a new recycle bin file has been made? How can i restore the old contents.

A:Lost recycle bin items

Things shouldn't go in the trash unless you want to get rid of them. Chances are that the files have been partially or totally overwritten and unrecoverable. Any chance at recovery was lost when you kept using the machine. When files are lost, you should shut down immediately so they won't get overwritten and then move the drive to another machine for recovery.

If the recovery apps can't find anything, they are probably gone for good.

I notice my recycle bin icon missing so I right clicked my desktop and restored the icon, but now when I lick on it, the computer window where the original recycle bin icon is..opens up each time I click on the recycle bin icon. A:Lost files when restored from recycle bin

When you delete a file, and it goes into the Recycle Bin, the data on the hard drive is not wiped clean or moved. The sectors of the hard drive the data resides on are simply marked as "free for new data".

Now, if you did not do anything with your computer that writes to the hard drive, then all of the original data would still be intact, and if you restored those files from the recycle bin they would be whole, uncorrupted, and ready to use.

But if you wait too long, and there are writes of new data to the hard drive, those sectors with the old data could be wholly or partially over-written, and now when you go to restore the files from the Recycle Bin they would be corrupted and therefore cannot be restored.

Hi all I'm Kate and I'd be grateful if someone could help me out with a sticky problem.

I'm using Windows Vista. Version 6 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1).

A month or so ago I had some problems with the fake Windows Security virus ( calling itself Vista Security 2010 I think ) on my system, I was able to find some advice online and managed to remove it. Then 2 days ago I performed a System Restore as I was having problems with my wireless router ( turns out it was a faulty wire connection) but I think it's possible I have re-infected with this virus although it is not behaving in the same manner.

So far the things I have noticed that are not working correctly:

Recycle Bin-the icon doesn't change to 'full' when I send things to it and when I click to empty it, it displays this message, " Are you sure you want to permanently delete all of these items?" It would usually state the number of items. If I open the bin after filling it, it shows 0 objects.

Taskbar-I am unable to unlock it.

Start Menu- Switches itself back to Windows Vista view although I have selected Classic.

Windows Defender does not show in sys tray even though when opened it says it's working. After I removed the fake Security Virus, Defender would pop up in sys tray saying it had blocked some start up programs, it hasn't done this since I Restored.

Desktop- 2 Control Panel icons have appeared there and I can not delete them.

I got a external hard drive, it means it has a individual Recycle Bin in F: Drive, separate it with the Recycle Bin of the computer in C: Drive.

But my computer was installed with Windows 7 again after a reparation, and now has a new unique identifier called Security ID or SID. for example: S-1-5-21-3225745820-1949245524-1067675123-1000

When I plugin the external drive the Recycle Bin looks empty, but the hard drive has the same space in megas used in the disk.

And now the Recycle Bin folder located in the external hard drive which is linked to my previous SID number of Windows 7, is hidden. In "Folder Options" I unhide the protected files and i found the previous Recycle Bin folder with the SID number
in it, but the names of the files has changed like $I0UFUJO, $I0U9PNS, $I1I2OMR, etc. and the original path file when was erased has dissapear.

Please, let me know how to recover my previous Recycle Bin files with their original names and path location before was deleted, because I need to get some of those files and in their original location and delete the others to free space from the disk. I am
using a Virtual Machine for doing that, just in case. Thanks.

Good afternoon,
Hopefully someone has experienced this and can offer advice.

A user is deleting files, but they are not appearing in the recycle bin

- user is deleting from her computer, and not a network location, or flash drive
- computer is not partitioned - only has a "C" drive
- computer is W7 32-bit
- user is not a local admin
- Use has 6 different recycle bins (right-click on RB desktop icon > properties > recycle bin location); some of the locations are "My Pictures", "My Videos" etc.... We are not able to manage the size of
these locations.
- all of the RB locations are set to "Custom Size"
- have tried:
a. deleting everything out of the RB
b. (running as admin) RD /S /Q C:\$Recycle.bin
c. set to view hidden & system files/folders, gone to "C" and deleted the $RECYCLE.BIN folder. clicked yest at all the prompts, including: Do this for all current items

** after both b & c, rebooted the computer

So far, nothing has worked. Might anyone have any other suggestions?

I had a problem deleting an older version of Firefox. The Firefox Setup .exe file was stuck in the Recycle Bin, it wouldn't delete and it wouldn't restore. Believing that the Recycle Bin was corrupt, I used this method from the DOS prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

My gratitude to any and all who can help me.

even though there is also possibility issue also from the server side setting to this specific user, lets try to troubleshoot from client side
when this issue start happen? for first bet try to perform system restore using restore point
try to login using local admin PC, check if this issue also persist there
turn of antivirus and security software to check, or you can perform clean boot
try to run system file checker to fix registry issue
try to login at safe mode with networking, and check
is this issue not persist at safemode with networking, maybe 3rd party software caused this issue
is there any important data on the D drive? please backup if any. Try to reformat this drive and check
the other workaround is try to re-create user profile. Maybe you need local administrator here

First-time poster here, and I hope you guys can help!

I just replaced the hard drive in an HP dv2000 with a centrino core duo processor, using the created Windows Vista restore disks from the original hard drive. The install went as planned, all Windows update downloaded and installed quickly.

On reboot, and on most subsequent starts, I get the "recycle bin on drive D:\ is corrupted. Do you wish to empty the recycle bin" alert.

As the laptop is configured, the hard drive is partitioned with drive C:\ being the primary OS partition, and drive D:\ being the HP Recovery partition. I have yet to get the alert for the recycle bin on C:\.

Also, the laptop is configured for one user, with the normal full administrative rights.

The questions I have are:

1) Is there a need for a recycle bin on the recovery partition?

2) Is there a way; be it downloadable software patch or registry edit, to stop Vista from creating the $recycle.bin file on the recovery partition?

Thank you in advance!

More: If the recycle bin isn't necessary on D:\, is there as way to put the temporary fix code "rd /s /q D:\$recycle.bin" (run through command prompt) into the Windows registry so it runs automatically at the end of each boot, and avoid the error message entirely?

The recycle bin disappeared from the desktop for some unknown reason. I went to the personalization function and chose the default wastebasket for the recycle bin icon. It is on the desktop again, but it never changes to empty from full, or vice-versa depending on which wastebasket is chosen on the icon screen or icon setting function. Ideally, the basket should show empty when the recycle bin is empty and full when the recycle bin is full. The path to do all this is: Control panel/Appearance and Personalization/Personalization/ and then chose the task 'Change desktop icons'. Restarting the computer makes no difference. Any ideas???
