Cannot find audio drivers for sony pcg 662n

Q: Cannot find audio drivers for sony pcg 662n

Hi I have a sony vaio laptop model number PCG 662N that has no audio since I upgraded to windows xp. Could anyone please assist me with this. I could not get any help on the sony web site either.

Preferred Solution: Cannot find audio drivers for sony pcg 662n

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all,

I have been in great fuss looking for drivers but all in vain.
The sound card seems fine and produces a welcome sound at the Vaio logo appearance on booting. Afterwards there is no sound on playback. I just feel tired looking for those drivers any further.
I am looking for

1) Audio driver
2) Camera driver

The model number is: Sony Vaio PCG-8V2M

Please revert in case u land up at something worth a shot.

A:Can't find drivers for Audio and Camera for Sony Vaio PCG-8V2M

The Sony site only lists Windows XP drivers for this model and the XP drivers are incompatible. Thus, if windows has installed the generic HD Audio Codec, that is the best you will be able to acquire.

I have no idea about a camera driver.

Hi there
for nearly every Sony Vaio model use the ASIAN Site -- they've even got hard to find stuff like the drivers for the Dual Sony MMC SDHC card reader.

Original Drivers and Applications for VPCEH/EJ Series (Windows 7 64-Bit) : Download : Sony Asia Pacific

(Other models too -- I was just chasing down stuff for a model I've been using).

Forget about those VILE sites that sucker you in to "Free Driver Search" -- and when they find something you have to PAY to access the relevant area (We call this stuff "Sneakerware" and it's becoming more and more prevalent - they say FREE DOWNLOAD-- but that's all that's free is the Download !!!!!)

Don't use DriverMax or sites like those any more. All this stuff is FREEWARE anyway.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, model PCG-8M3L.

Just reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2, and everything seems to be working OK expect no sound. I went to Sony's support page and they no longer offer the drivers for this computer for download, I think you have to purchase them from like $40 from Sony and they mail you a disk.

Any ideas where I might be able to find these for free on the web??

In addition to the sound card driver, I would prefer to install all the necessary drivers for this laptop instead of using the default generic drivers that come with windows.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

(btw, I apologize if this issue has already been covered, but I tried searching a few times and I'm getting some kind of fatal error..?)

A:Where to find Drivers for an older Sony Vaio Laptop

Hello Chris

Go to Device Manager to identify the sound system and then search online for drivers

Right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager.
Click the + at sound
If it is Realtek go to the Realtek website and look for XP drivers.

You can do the same for all the drivers.
Be sure to create a System Restore point before installing a driver
Only install one driver at a time and make sure it is working properly before installing another one.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CR220E and have installed a clean copy of Windows 7. Sony, in its infinite wisdom (malice?) has decided not to provide driver updates at all for my model since the computer is allegedly incapable of running Windows 7 (lies!).

I am having trouble finding drivers for the memory card reader, microphone, and webcam. In addition, my function keys don't work at all, and the volume buttons work but don't appear on the screen like they used to (this is not necessarily a problem). The touchpad doesn't scroll anymore.

I have attempted to fix some of the problems by downloading the original drivers/software from the Sony eSupport website (Vaio Control Center, Sony Utilities, Vaio Event Service, Battery Checker, etc.) but none of them work correctly, probably because the versions on the model-specific page are for Vista only. They either won't install at all, or cause huge problems with other things. (The battery checker/ISB utility is made of pure evil.) I had to uninstall everything I put on it almost immediately.

Does anyone know what specific drivers/programs I need, and where I can get the Windows 7 compatible versions?

A:Not able to find drivers for Windows 7, no product support offered by Sony

Have you tried the Vista drivers? I have found they work in most cases.

So my problem is this, my Sony Vaio VGN-SZ3XWP, keeps unstalling the Audio Driver?

This driver is by Sigma Tel... had no problem with the pc for the first month, but I keep having to load up the driver from the hard disk, no problem itself but frusting...

Skype and MSN are probably up to no good, but it did work fine to start with and I loaded Skype on as soon as i had the Vaio?

I take it that this is a conflict with software, but i honestly don't really know what i'm taking about LOL, so any help would be most appreciated.

OH! did try Viao website for help, but I could find anything... Its searching the database with the right question so the info is probably there, just i can't find it.

The Vaio is about 3/4 years old now, and I just did a reinstallation of Windows XP to clean things up a bit. Before the reinstall, I managed to track down this page on the Sony Asia website (http://www.sony-asia.com/support/do...p/sectionfirst?site=hp_en_AP_i&subpage=detail), and downloaded all of the listed drivers onto a memory stick.

Having formatted the disk and installed Windows, I installed the drivers in the order listed on the website. They all worked perfectly, except for the Realtek audio driver.

No sound was played by the computer, and when viewing the sound preferences under the Control Panel, I was informed that there is “No Audio Device”.

I rebooted the laptop, and still nothing happened. Tried uninstalling the driver from Add/Remove Applications, reinstalling it, and nothing happened. So eventually, I figured something must have gone wrong.

I reinstalled Windows XP Professional from scratch, and again repeated the driver installations. They all worked fine, except for the Realtek driver… again.

What options do I have? The audio was working just fine before I reinstalled Windows the first time, so I can safely assume that the card itself is not damaged in any way. The laptop has never been dropped, scuffed, dented, and barely left the house.

I’m sat here staring at the (silent) desktop, so any suggestions are more than welcome. Thank you all very much for your time!

Video Codecs

When I go to 'Run' and type in "DXDIAG", and clicked on the Sound Tab at the top.. it read 'No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.'

How do I find out which sound drivers to install? I have already tried Realtek AC97 Audio and when it installed.. it finished halfway and a message popped up and said "Uninstalling audio drivers".

I removed and re-installed Realtek AC'97 Sound Drivers. Well, it refuses to install the "driver" file actualy, that's the main problem here.

So I have an interesting situation. I have a customer with a Sony from Europe. He had a non-legit Win 7 install and was missing half his drivers. I installed a legit copy of Windows, and attempted to update his drivers(from the Euro site because you can't get them here) but about half of them will not do anything but hang after execution. the problem is the graphic card cannot be detected anymore i tried downloading it from the NVDIA website and when it finished to install it says "Install Cannot Continue"

This is the model of my graphic card before when its still on Vista Business:

please help me

A:HELP! Can't find NVDIA on my SONY VAIO

Hey check first the vaio web site, they had to have suitable drivers for your System Operating.
Also: they advice by a model list of computers if yours are OK to being the "upgrade".
ALSO (if another one agree with me: Vaio Video Cards, are special designed for it; so, theirs a little problem, finding working drivers).

I comment this because i have a VGNFZ-150fe and same problem with drivers doing the downgrade to Xp.
So many hours, and the end., a few hardware was not installed.

Hope you find something at my opinion.

Yesterday I had the Windows defender virus on my Desktop computer. I read things online and most places were saying to use rKill, ComboFix, and Malwarebytes. So I followed everything and then the virus was removed (I believe). Less than an hour later a friend of mine went to a website (which I believe got me a virus).
Ever since then when my computer boots up the task bar at the bottom of the screen is grey and plain (looks like a task bar from Windows XP maybe), it says that my "Audio service is not running", and I do not even have the bars that show my Wifi signal (I'm assuming that I am missing the driver now?).
I do not know if ComboFix is what did this or if I have another virus but I have become so frustrated with this that I figured I would ask for help.

I'm running a Gateway DX4860, Windows 7, and a wireless internet card.
If ANY other information is needed then I will be more than happy to give it.

Satellite L755-S5306 has been awkward with audio since Windows 10 upgrade. I was aware it was 'not supported' but thought maybe it was just a matter of time until it would be...

I see countless Toshiba Satellite model variations with awkward headphone jack function (must select as device in software rather than simply plugging in to disable speakers), and recurring loss of audio while in use...10-50 seconds into playback (multiple applications, software, browsers).

Am I correctly seeing the writing on the wall?

Microsoft says go reinstall the drivers in compatibility mode, etc.

There simply are no drivers for Windows 10 for my model (and others). Toshiba help suggestions just direct me to soft panel control usage instructions or Microsoft.

Troubleshooting finds no problem.

It seems pretty simple. I installed Windows 10 despite being told it wasn't supported. My choice, my fault, my problem?

In March 2017 I still see an absence of support. This seems like a fact of life...a dead end..no options...take a hint, self...

If this model is not supported for the current Microsoft operating system, do I need to just wipe the hard drive and install Ubuntu? Windows 10 weill not allow regression to Windows 7 due to time elapsed since upgrade.

Buying a new laptop with fingers crossed hoping Windows 10 is supported is not appealing to me.

Thank you

Hello All!!

I have seen similar threads here but my problem is slightly different.
I have ASUS P4S8X-MX which have built in audio of Realtek AC'97 .
I am using Windows XP SP2 for quite a time and everything was fine unless i tried to install an updated driver for my sound. After updating, i got Code 10 error , device cannot start.
I uninstalled the drivers, Restart my PC and then installed my previous version of drivers.
Everything was fine and i can see volume icon in task bar. But when i tried playing an audio file there wasn't any sound. I clicked volume icon to raise it but it was disabled.
I double click it to open Mixer .. there are only 3 options (normally it use to have lot ..wave,speaker,etc..) Now it has only Wave , SW Synth, CD Player.. and No recording device.

I did try re-installing the drivers again and again but no LUCK..

I tried using Drivers Sweeper to remove the tracks .. doing that in Safe Mode and then again Installed Old drivers. It all go well but in the end its same situation with sound disabled.

I don't want to reinstall my Windows , is there any way to fix it ?

One thing i noticed is every time I install drivers the sound manager shows up at task bar but in moments it disappears while the soundman.exe is running in Processes and I can't find it in Control Panel as well (where it use to be) .

Its been 8 hours since I am struggling with that. But No LUCK!

A:Realtek AC'97 audio - drivers installed properly & services running but no audio

Hi muazzam

Is best to upgrade to SP3 (if only because MS has dropped support for SP2) but can start, for now, looking at your problem while you continue running with SP2

Let's start with these initial steps
1) List any Problem Devices

Make sure all your devices are connected and powered on
Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
2) Generate and attach a DirectX report

click Start->Run, enter dxdiag
Notice progress in lower left window corner
When done, click Save Information button and save to your Desktop
In TechSpot, use the paper clip icon to attach the report. (If you don't see icon you may need to first click Go Advanced)
3) If there were no Problem Devices (step 1 above) then also check on your Windows Audio service if Status=Started and StartupType=Automatic

I'll have a look and we can take it from there

I can't get my new Sony NWZ-A818 mp3 player to connect to my computer via any of the USB's. I am running Vista Home Premium, keep getting message "Device driver software was not successfully installed" and in the details it says "MTP Device failed". I have recently changed my internet security from Norton 2007 to Kaspersky V7.0 could the problem be due to this?

Can someone help me with finding Sony Vaio VGN-FW130E drivers for windows 8? My laptop model is not supported for win8 in sony's support...

A:SONY VAIO drivers

My Sony VAIO (SR290) doesn't have Windows 8 drivers either, but I was able to get everything working using the Sony Windows 7 drivers for my notebook.

I chose Windows 7 compatibility mode and ran each one as "Administrator" (see attached pic).

Hello Brandon, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You don't state where you bought your Sony so I did a search on Sony Support in the UK and the USA.

Both searches indicated your model couldn't be found so have you given us the correct model number?

The nearest match I could find was the VPCF136FM: Sony eSupport - VPCF136FM - Support

Stay safe and watch out for the bad guys.

HI im new to this forums but surely not to forums itself.

i'll get straight to the issue at hand. my Win 7 sony vaio model VGNNW240F seems to not want to recognize DVDs but CDs. i recently also called the tech support who for some reason deleted my upper value in the registry on my dvd drive. i have no clue what it is and has no clue how to get my DVD writer back to full functionality. until then i only can burn and read CDs which is hurting biz.

A:Sony and its non existent dvd drivers

I'd recommend installing the latest firmware (see attached) and then the latest s/w driver for your optical drive.

I am mentioning Hardware ID from device manager. Can anyone help me find the drivers from trusted source?
And can anyone tell me if these drivers are important & required ones?

A:Sony Laptop Drivers Help

Since Windows 10 was released, many legacy drivers were ported over to Microsoft Windows Update by their original vendors so that they would be delivered via Windows Update.
Maybe you should try installing all available updates for your Windows 10 installation first.
Also, do you have any discs containing those drivers? Usually they come with the laptop in its box/case, in a "Setup CD/DVD".

Hello Everyone,

My first post to this forum since I joined 15 minutes ago.

I am the victim of a self-inflicted problem here and I hope someone can point me to a download site to get the drivers I need.

I just purchased a working Sony VAIO PCG-808 that the previous owner tried to upgrade from Win98 to WinME. Since this model comes with only 64MB of RAM, ME choked horribly. Frustrated, the previous owner went out an bought a new laptop and sold me this one for a song.

I shot myself in the foot when I decided to "fix" the problem by FDISKing and reloading a fresh copy of Win98 after adding 128MB. Of course this got things running but I forgot I did not get "restore" CD's with the original drivers
Now I have a working laptop with lousy graphics and sound not to mention no OEM power management software or infrared support. I suspect the internal modem is driverless as well.

I spent most of the day Googling for driver sites for this specific model to no avail. It seems to me, Sony must have sent "cease and desist" emails to all the driver sites since references to downloads exist but the files to download don't.

Can anyone point me to a site with good driver downloads???

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

Windows 7 just became available to me through my university and I just installed the x64 version on my computer. Upgraded from Vista Premium x86. I've got a sony VGN-CR4000. I got most everything installed and running but there's a few drivers that i cannot get to work. I cant find a driver for the SD and memory stick card slots, and the driver to get all the functions on my keyboard to work. I have the recovery disks and tried to install the original forms of the drivers but that didnt work. In the device manager it lists a mass media controler and an unknown device. I went to the Microsoft update catalog and dl'd the Texas Instruments Inc - Storage - Texas Instruments PCIxx12 Integrated FlashMedia Controller but that didnt work either. Anyone know anything else I can try?

A:Help getting all drivers on Sony CR4000

Here is your vista driver support page -
Sony eSupport - VGN-CR4000 - Software Updates & Drivers

If you any trouble installing drivers because the drivers are written for vista, and you get a OS mismatch error do the following :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Im at a loss as to why you installed W7 64bit version as your drivers from Vista are 32 bit, and you would of had to of done a clean install, as you cant upgrade from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS.

If you have any further problems with the drivers on the above site maybe you should consider the 32 bit version of W7.
