Q: Complaint - Y40 in Canada - French Keyboard

Hi everyone, I just received my Y40 and found out that it came with a French keyboard. Could anyone verify that this is an anomaly or does everyone get French keyboards. It makes no sense at all to automatically sell french keyboards to Canada when most people do not speak french. I understand they need to offer the optionality, but they shouldn't automatically assume that people want french keyboards. This is very frustrating as the Lenovo website shows the US version of the keyboard. I'm talking to support and trying to figure out what can be done. If anyone has any success stories that they can share on rectifying the situation, please do share to help all of us fellow Canadians out. Thank you for all of your help!

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

I have a laptop Asus R301L which means that I don't have a numeric keyboard and the keyboard is a German one. How can I type the French ? ? I can't use the ASCII code because I don't have a numeric keyboard and there is no shortcut on my keyboard. Any idea?

I have here a Microsoft Internet Keyboard (French version) that supports french layout. I set the keyboard to:

French(Canada) - French
--Canadian French
--Canadian Multilingual Standard
--French

Regardless of the setup I use, not all the keys on the keyboard output properly. If I use the ^ with vowels the put the accent above, however when doing the characters on the ~ and 1-9 keys I don't get the appropriate characters.

I've tried installing the MS Intellitype Pro software to no avail. It worked before the computer was formatted and XP put back on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am currently learning french and I would like to be able to type french accents on my keyboard.I know there is a way of setting up the keyboard in XP but I have forgotten as it was a long time ago since I last had to do this.UK keyboard as oppossed to US as I am in the UK.I found a site on the web that gave me these instructions....

start>control panel>keyboard>language settings this is where it falls down as my PC does not display language settings just pulse speed and cursor speed..can anyone point me in the right direction please

Rather than going straight to the keyboard applet in Control Panel, try just the "Regional and Language Options" applet:

Start/Control Panel/Regional and Language Options/Languages tab/Details/Settings ... "Add" -- and choose the French options you prefer for "Input Language" (there are six different French versions to choose from), and choose French also for your "Keyboard layout/IME".

See if that does it

I can not change my keyboard from French Canadian to US. I tried the usual things; pressing CTRL+ALT and using the keyboard icon on the taskbar, and even though it says it is on the US keyboard, it is still French Canadian. Then I removed my other keyboard options from the control panel so it says I only have the US keyboard available, but it is still French Canadian. I have no idea where the apostrophe is on this keyboard, and it is driving me crazy.

So this has been happening on and off since I upgraded to Vista from XP. It's only been going on in Fire Fox. When I type somewhere, this text box for example, sometimes a small letter E with a downhill accent pops up instead of the ' key. After restarting Fire Fox the problem is fixed. Any ideas what this may be?

Is there an easy way for me to type in French, including accents on a USA keyboard, other than memorizing the alt codes?

You could make yourself a character store (e.g. on a notepad) from the character map that you find in All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access. Then you copy the characters from there and paste it into the text. That is not very convenient either, but gets the job done for the occasional email or so. The notpad shortcut you can pin to the taskbar for easy access.

But if you need it frequently, I would get a French keyboard and make the appropriate settings (which you can easily switch back and forth). E.g. I am right now typing from a German keyboard - in Florida.

My office computer runs Vista and sometimes the keyboard language switches over to French. The strange thing is that the keyboard is only in French within Microsoft Word. In any other program (Chrome, Excel, Notepad...), it's still in good ol' English. Also, the selected language at the bottom in Word is still English, so it's still spell checking the right language. Once I restart Word, it goes back to English. There must be a sequence of keys I'm hitting that switches it to French. Or...?

Is there any way i can get around this? the lay out for this means i have to guess or remember what keys functions are because they dont match up and its a real pain, even if it was in the french format then i can see what i'm pressing rather than having to press 10 keys to find the character i desire.

I am running windows 7 and the computer is a sony vaio vgn-cr21s. can you purchase decals for the keys for Australian english?

It may be more difficult re-mapping all the special embedded keys of a laptop but Windows allows you to change your keyboard layout for standard keyboards and you could use an external USB keyboard.

Hey there, I am actually having a kinda odd problem. I am french-swiss and I use a french-swiss keyboard. I bought my Y900 with one. Now I just dont find out how to zoom in with the "strg" + "+" Funcition. Pls see the attached picture of my keyboard.Obviously I press ?"strg" + "shift" + "1/+". But what happens then? My only problem... is that I often need to switch between two languages, english, and french, and a french keyboard is far more practical for me. Help please! I just installed Service Pack 2 and lost the configuration on my French Canadian keyboard. I opened the Control Panel, then Regional properties, gave French Canadian as the input language by default with the addition of British English as a second possibility. When I wanted to change the keyboard setting to look like my FC keyboard I was given the choice of French Canadian Legacy or French Canadian Multilingual keyboards. The keyboard I really want allows for an accented capital E automatically. I am not quite sure which it is nor do I know of any site that shows it specifically. On the keyboard layout I am looking for the @ symbol is attained by 2 plus altcar. There are also more dead keys than on the standard French keyboard which is what I get.
I cannot seem to be able to reconfigure to have the FC keyboard.

My sytem is Windows XP.

Living in France you cannot avoid a French keyboard, they're everywhere. So I learned using the azerty, but stuck to English.

This is of course beyond the people designing Windows.

So how can I have Windows 8 speaking English, but using French options for the rest (?, keyboard, date format, metric)?

And of course, ALSO WITH METRO please. It seems independent of the "real" OS.

Hello all, I've recently purchased this laptop (Just out of best buy direct return policy) and It has remained docked at my desk since.  

I used the keyboard briefly during setup, but otherwise have been using my mechanical - well the other day I decided to use it and the backspace key popped up. Saw that the clips on the key itself were broken on one side.

I don't want to have to wait without my computer in hopes that this may be covered by warranty repair if I send it in, but I cannot find this keyboard anywhere but Ebay.

I would purchase it from ebay but the only sellers are located in hong kong and it would take quite a while and not be an assured fit.

Any ideas? Part number, etc? Basically I would just buy a new keyboard and take the backspace key off of it. 

I saw that theres a website for laptop replacement keys, but this particular model isn't listed. Is this keyboard shared with other models, just with either no backlight or with white text instead of red? I would accept a different kind of key if its the right size.

Hello everyone,

Recently I bought a new computer to my wife, and it has French Windows 7 x64 bit preinstalled on it. As she speaks French/Russian I added a Russian layout in Windows (please note that originally Windows 7 came as French edition).

Now, when she visits Le Monde.fr : Actualit?s ? la Une web site the special characters are not properly shown in IE8. For example, in words, the letter ? becomes й etc.

If she runs Google Chrome browser, everything is working just fine. However, she dislikes Chrome, so I am forced to solve the problem with IE8.

If I choose in IE8 a Western Europe locale I can see proper characters in words, but! I don't want to choose locale each time there is a bug with IE8!

How can I solve the issue?

You just need to set your language options in IE in your preferred order... and if you are going to use cyrillics at all you must have the far eastern language fonts too (as odd as that sounds... d'accord/harosho?)...

Control Panel > Internet Options > Language Button (it's in the first tab...) and set French, Russian, English in their ORDER of personal importance...

My Pavillion 27" al-in-one stopped turning on (completely dead) at the end of October.  The HP online help took about 3 hours (opening the computer which was not easy since that was an all-in-one, closing, reopening etc..). That did not work. So HP send me a box to ship my computer for repair under warranty. I shipped it October 30th.The shipping of my computer back to me according to my service order is January 5th ( it is still not sure). I called the service center 2 or 3 times and according to them , they dont have the part. An HP computer service center that does not have an HP part does not make sense. Taking 2 months to fix a computer might be allright for a mechanic shop but not for an HP Service Center. I asked for another computer but they cannot do that. The supervisor (or somebody that played the role of supervisor) told me directly that there is NOTHING I CAN DO except to wait. This was the last HP I am buying.

I, Ganesh Kumar from Delhi, purchased a HP Pavilion Notebook 15--AU003TX, Serial No-5CD62701DR and Product No-W6T49PA#CJ  from HP Showroom M/s Computerland, Nehru Place, Delhi against Invoice No-CLNP/0716/962 dated 29 July 2016 From the day one, my laptop fluctuates with black screen 3 to 4 time continuously. I talked to your HP show room from where it purchased but they said to talk with customer care team. When I talked with customer care executive  and they registered my case ID -4776577111 and committed to send the engineer. Engineer came and tried to resolve the problem with software updatation but could not resolve. Bought this brand new in late February, started bluescreening in April which causes me to lose loads of work for university and various clients (I work in design.) Was deemed a hardware problem and Lenovo collected the laptop and "repaired" it before sending it back to me at the end of July. I've been using it sparingly since because I'm off uni and haven't needed it that much. But it's been really slow since I got it back. Then today it blue-screened on me again, exact same error code as last time and I can't find any email address for complaints or support. Hey, so on startup a command prompt opens up, which I assume loads extendedunlimited.org on my browser (chrome). Running AVG, Malwarebytes, and AdwCleaner hasn't gotten rid of it.

I brought laptop on 10/8/2015 with an issue on the screen as it was blinking like horizontal white lines or the screen goes black and come instantly many times for couple of seconds and increases with time, and when i contact my supporter (http://www.arab-computers.com/) the ones whom i brought the laptop from they took it for a month to replace it cause it was in the -14 days- but they gave me the same laptop again but closed like brand new and i have nothing to prove it and i knew it cause it got the same issue and i discovered it after couple of days so i went back to them and gave them the laptop with the same issue they took more than 3 months to fix it and this time when i used it there were the same issue of the screen and also a new issue that the setup of the windows is not genuine as i bought it with windows license so i took some while to go back again to them and they took it for 1 month but this time they took it before warranty and handed it after but i got it back with they same issue and it is not fixed!!! what should i do?

Everytime I switched on my pc, there will be a pop up saying it is installing... then a pop up saying that the norton virus I have do not have auto protection etc, asking to uninstall and reinstall again, then I need to click ok to close it, and this always have 3 times, after the 3rd time, the norton virus thing only shows. I suspect this is something with the norton virus scan I purchase online, any idea what I should do? I am not sure how to uninstall and reinstall as I dont think I keep the file...?

I got this e-mail from my service provider. Is this lagit? I have three computers in my home. Using a router. I check them all everyweek or so for spyware, malware, etc. Using Malwarebytes, spybot, super anti spyware,running virus scans, keeping them clean. How can I find out, or know for sure if one of them is in fact infected? Is there a program I can use to test one of my PC'S? Thanks for the help.

I purchased Win 7 OS online in January and installed it on my daughter's PC with not difficulty. But I was never asked to provide the 'key' that came with the software. It seems to work fine, and MSFT updates are keeping it current.. But there is always a display saying 'This copy of Windows is not genuine. Build 7601.' Is this message hampering the OS in some way? What can I do to stifle this message? If I somehow informed the OS of the key, would that stop it? Thanks.

Since you have a key code, Go to "Control Panel, System". There near the bottom, there should be the product code. If it is not the one you have, click the "Change product code" and then enter the one you have.

If the code that is listed is the same as the one you have, call Microsoft.

I am beyond stunned.  I purchased a new ENVY dv7300 Intel Corei7 quad core with a top graphics card.  I received it 3 days ago.  The keyboard is not flush.  It hits the screen when closed.  I contacted HP support through live chat and was sent a link for a service manual and they told me to fix it myself.  I could not believe this so I called HP.  After being transferred 5 times, I finally spoke to a "supervisor" who told me I would have to purchase another laptop and then return the first, defective one and wait for a refund.  They would not send one and just allow me to send the defective one back.  This is within three days of my receiving the laptop.  When I asked where it says in writing that if someone receives a defective product, they have to buy another, then return the defective machine for a refund.  I was told that "it is how HP does business. It is not in writing." When I explained that this is illegal to not inform a buyer of policies (I purchased the laptop at HP.com), that they were changing the terms of the purchasing agreement,  I was told again that it is how they do things.  I am so disgusted by this.  I could have returned the defective laptop and wait for them to build a new one, and send it from China, but I would be without a laptop until they received the defective one back, then made a new one, then wait for 5 to 7 days for it to arrive.  If someone buys a car that has a probl... My name is Swati Bansal. My HP laptop (Product number: F6D25PA, Serial number: 5CB4191STW) has got some issue that its battery is not charging when charger plugged in. I took the laptop to the authorised service centre in Raj Nagar, ghaziabad and they advised to replace the battery. We got the new original battery but the problem still persisted. Again I took the laptop to the authorized service centre in Noida sector-64 and they are unable to diagnose the issue, they told us that the problem is with the motherboard (that will cost Rs 11000), but to remind you that the motherboard of this unit has been replaced twice within the warranty period.What I don't understand that what kind of motherboard does the HP has, that they keep getting corrupted within few months. I am really upset with the kind of product HP has provided me and with the services too that each service centre tells a different problem.I would really appreciate if HP could assist me to get this issue resolved with minimum cost involved. Till now I have already spent Rs 4500 to resolve this issue with my laptop and it is still not rectified. Hope HP will take action asap.

I sent my under warranty laptop in to be repaired.  The two pieces were coming apart and the cdrw needed repaired.  They had it almost a month.  This man would call me from time to time but I couldn't understand half of what he said.  He called to tell me it coudn't be fixed and that he was giving me a coupon for $250.  They broke the screen and sent it back to me completely destroyed.  Should they not give me a brand new laptop to replace the one they destroyed?  This is absolutely rediculous!  It's beyond belief!  If you destroy someones property shouldn't you be obligated to replace it?  I will never buy an HP product again and I will make sure everyone knows of my experience!
