X1 Carbon Touchpad stopped working

Q: X1 Carbon Touchpad stopped working

Is there a way we can change the touchpad Reverse scrolling option (Scroll --> Two Finger Scrolling --> Switch Direction) on the X1 Carbon through an automated way. We see that after Windows 10 upgrade, the scroll option on the touchpad has been changed. So doing it manually it works but we want to automate it either through a registry change or some other method. Yes manual changes works perfectly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sunday night the Lenovo companion did a few updates including a BIOS update and also an update for the Synaptics, but I can't see it in the Installation History (it doesn't show up). Anyway, after that update, the touchpad doesn't move the mouse anymore. I can still click it, but it doesn't respond to any gestures. I checked in BIOS and it's enabled, I checked all possible settings and it's all enabled and on. Any ideas of what I could try?

I recently did a clean install. I installed the latest versions of System Update and Service Bridge (not Vantage), updated everything and everything worked well. However, a few days later, after a standby both mouse and trackpoint were unresponsive. So here is what I did: I restarted, but both still did not work.I uninstalled the device, still did not work.I did diagnostics at boot to find that both TrackPoint and TouchPad work.I re-installed the latest Synaptics UltraNav from here, and now the TrackPoint and TrackPoint buttons worked again, but the TouchPad still not functional. Now, when I uninstall the driver in Device Manager, the TouchPad comes back to life, but obviously quirky. When I re-install the driver, then, again, only the TrackPoint works. When I try to reflash the firmware I get error 0x62.I installed Vatage and checked for updates, but it didn't find any.In the TouchPad Driver Diagnostics (Ctrl-Shift-I in the ThinkPad tab in Mouse Settings) I find Device 0 and Device 2 and the TouchPad actually produces produces Thin_Finger events correctly. So the hardware is definitely working. Below I've attached diagnostic file.

Title says it all really. This stopped working after the last major Windows 10 update (the one that introduced the three-finger horizontal scroll for scrolling through active applications). All other gestures seem to work OK, only the 2-finger scroll gesture has stopped working. I have all the latest updates installed, and all the latest drivers.

Hello! The touchpad of my X1 stopped working again . I tried to uninstall the Synaptics device, which makes it work again after the first reboot, but when the Synaptics driver is automatically reinstalled it will stop working again. Strangely gestures like 4 finger swipe works but the cursor doesn't move, and the touchpad driver diagnostics also seems to see finger movements. It seems that the device is detected as as Synaptics TouchPad V9.16 on PS2 Port instead of using the SMBus: Can anyone help with this issue or post screenshots from their working X1 C6 (Thinkpad tab in the mouse properties and press Alt+Shift+i) ?

I have the same problem. This is also effecting the gen4 . With the latest "n1cgr16w.exe". First, it takes a long time to switch between tabs in "Synaptics Control Panel", Ok", "Cancel" is taking forever to close the dialogbox. Also no checkbox can be selected in "Scroll" tab. This latest driver literally does not work. It CANNOT even provide the simplest functionality. Need to rollback the changes asap.  Thanks

My X1 Carbon 5th Gen has been driving me insane the last few weeks. My touchpad stops working alltogether after either coming out of sleep mode, or booting. I have searched on every forum Google kindly wants to show me for a solution, but they all say the same : uninstall and reinstall the latest version of the Synaptics touchpad driver. This solution works... but only untill the next sleep or reboot. So, I have been doing that solution many times every day, now, for the past 2 or 3 weeks.. Anyone has a clue as to how to make this stick for good? X1 Carbon 5th genWindows 10 Family x64OS Version 18362.3878gb ramFingerprint reader Thanks!

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

Hey guys, I own Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 6th with latest specs(except my screen is not HDR but a matte one). The laptop is approximately 4.5 months old and I have 3 years warranty on it. I noticed exactly the same "behaviour" around my touchpad which is described in this topic. With no explanation or reason, I have been seeing(already 5-6 times) when my touchpad simply freezes and the cursor stop moving completely. However, usually red button(pointer) along with keyboard work just fine. The only thing which always helped me to solve this issue is just rebooting the laptop.  All my drivers are up to date via Lenovo Vantage app as well as the latest precision windows 10 drivers installed. Any ideas what could cause this occasional touchpad freeze? Should I contact Lenovo warranty support or this is 100% related to a software issue, not the hardware?  Btw, I have done hardware scan test via Lenovo Vantage and no issues noticed at all. Appreciate any help here or advice as this is kind of frustrating considering how new is this machine.

In the last couple days my X1 carbon 5th gen (with its warrenty coming to an end in 2 weeks) has started to do the weirdest thing. While every other FKeys work perfectly, the first three, those who control volume and mute and un-mute have stopped working.  I checked every possible driver update every day, multiple times since then and nothing seams to work. I also have rebooted and - miracle - the 3 keys started working again ... for a couple seconds before stopping once more. The only thing I have not tried is to reinstall windows, but I must submit my masters thesis pretty soon, so if I can manage to fix this problem without spending a whole day reinstalling everything on my laptop, I'd be eternally grateful.  Ideas?

My touchpad on ideapad Y700 15-ISK just stopped working. I did a little research in drivers and i found, that there is no driver for touchpad installed. I tried to download new drivers from lenovo site and I used an older driver from C:\Drivers\Touchpad, there is InstNT.exe, which made a driver shows up in device manager, but prompt me to restart the laptop. When I did, the driver got lost again and I had to make the InstNT.exe "instalation" again. Then I tried to update it with a setup.exe in the same synaptics folder and after it, the driver got itself a name for synaptics. So I said to myself, ok after restart now, it will be fine. But it wasn't. Again, the driver is gone.I'm attaching a screenshot for you to see driver being installed, but after restart, it vanished and isn't even showing in unrecognized drivers. In addition, my windows defender warned me about some threats, but I guess it got rid of them, because there were none to be found by me. Just wanted to say it, maybe it could affect my problem.

What is the make and model# of your laptop?
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals and look for Touch Pad, if it is Disabled, Enable it.
boot normally, and go to the computer manufacturers Support/Download drivers site and type in your make and model # or your service tag # and download the touchpad driver for your model.

Hey everyone this is my first post here,
I'm hoping to get some guidance to resolve and issue I've been having with a laptop I am trying to refurbish. It's a HP Pavillon TX1000 I got from a friend. I put in a new Western Digital scorpio Blue HD and installed Vista Home.
Everything seemed fine but after installing drivers from the HP site and antivirus and malwarebytes, the touchpad stopped working. It had been fine beforehand. I had to plug in a USB mouse which works fine.
So far I've tried these things:
In control panel looking at the mouse settings the Synaptics Touchpad is greyed out and I can't enable or disable it. I can only remove the usb keyboard driver.
I system restored but it hasn't helped.
I download the Synaptics Touchpad driver again and reinstalled it, but it didn't make any difference.
There is a button above the touchpad which is supposed to enable and disable the pad but pressing it makes no difference, the blue light shows it's enabled but it's not.
I am trying a windows reinstall but even during that I am having to use the usb mouse.
Any ideas what I can try next???
The laptop specs are: The laptop specs are: AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.90 GHZ
1GB DDR2 RAM
HDD: Western Digital Scorpio Blue 120GB. 5400RPM.

Please post the computer model next time. Example for touchpad settings/software installed are HP synaptics and a click to enable or disable is found under Mouse settings - Synaptics tab.

I have a Sony Vaio and the touchpad and buttons just stopped working out of nowhere. Any idea what I can do to fix this? Maybe reinstall drivers? But from where? I didn't change anything; it happened totally randomly! Right now I have an external mouse hooked up and it's a pain! Please help.

My touchpad stopped working but it shows listed under programs as Snapsis Quick Pad Driver, however when trying to evoke it or uninstall it I get an error message: There was a problem C:\ Program Synaptics\Syn tp|SYNL SDLL.dll the specified module could not be found.  When I try to reinstall it I get a message that I have to uninstall it first to reinstall.  Also when I go to evoke it under Mouse & Touchpad, only the mouse shows up, nothing listed for the touchpad.  When I go into safe mode to see if the touchpad will work in safe mode I get a message that my system can't find some hardware (I assume it means my touchpad??)  I have read that some people said their touchpads stopped working when they went from Windows 8 to 10; however I have been using 10 all along.  So I have run out of options that I know of; can anyone help me get my touchpad working again?  Thanks.
